Comments of El Loco at Slip Inn
J. S.
Had a short trip into Sydney & was looking for something relatively close to the Sydney Lyric Theatre. Went to El Loco at Slip Inn at around 5:30pm.
Was relatively quiet when i got there but could see it start to fill up for"after work drinks"
Had a DIY Taco Platter (Beef), Jalapeno Margarita & Carajillo cocktail
Staff were super friendly. Food came out nice & quick & was delicious. No complaints on my visit.
B. Y.
Team Christmas party for lunch. Good chatting area at the court yard under the trees, not hot at all 🙂
G. M.
Large venue with outdoor seating. Multi-zones/rooms brightly decorated. Space for dancing. Drinks can be expensive ($52 pinot grigio!). Food is good. Can be busy and noisy.
Good for groups in party mode.
D. G.
Great pub. Great range of beers and the bar food is also plentiful. I especially liked the addition of Mexican sauces as condiments. As a chilli lover, most can't deal with my level of spice tolerance, the super hot sauce had some bite. Music was too loud for my taste but all round, a good place to visit.

3.5 to be honest for an honest all theme mexican bar in which Slip-in. Situated the corner of the street or u can say crossing. It's big and has good seating capacity. They serve tap beer of different brands and all the good. They have this offer forgot the timing where you can buy an jug of beer and get nachos free. You can see all sort of people sitting there and discussing God knows what not. You can see hunch of girls hanging around sipping on beer and munching on doritos or nachos.
Or you see office guys chilling out and discussing work . Fridays is absolutely crazy here , don't even get space to feet your foot easily.
Staff is good and polite and there washrooms are clean and hygenic as this is place you use the most after getting high on alcohol.
The reason I gave 3.5 and not 4.5 is coz they don't serve beer from there bars and one needs to carry and hold the jugs for longer distance. Not sure why they do this.
k. b.
Great place, nice staffs. Food is great! Nice vibrant place. Always looks busy👌👌👍👍
M. B.
Beautiful beer garden - hard to believe you're in the city as you can't hear any traffic noise etc. Decent food and great atmosphere.
D. W.
Pleasantly surprised with the food here. Much better menu than I was expecting. The customer service was above average as well.
K. B. R.
The nachos, tacos and fried chicken is really good!
W. A.
Nice, fun drinks with friends and colleagues. The food is addictive too, and the self order process is amazing.
G. E.
Atmosphere & Music is fantastic. Food was much spicier than what could be grasped by ordering off the menu with no option to choose how hot. We had 2-3 people on our table who couldn't eat their dishes because they weren't expecting really spicy food. Our experience would have been nicer if the menu had more indication of how hot the meals would be. The kitchen staff were lovely and arranged other food for where it was needed.
C. G.
Moved here after Xmas drinks to chill out and enjoy the company.
It's covid safe with a lovely ambience!
Well done guys!
D. S.
Service was great food average, however portions very very generous
R. H.
Oh my god. It did slipp in.
Its was primed ready for the slipp in and oh boy did it satisfy.
Its like that first sip of coffee on a gorgeous spring morning, words struggle to define thr experience. You could slipp in everyday and never get tired of it. Wife material.
10/10 would smash. Daily.
V. S.
Good people and moreover they gave me a complimentary drink because of the late drinks offered.
Too good. Highly recommended.
K. S.
Great Mexican food. Terrific place to meet people after work. It gets busy on Friday nights. Like uber busy! But great for happy hour. Can be very loud inside especially with a big crowd and loud music.
V. V.
Very rustic restaurant. Plenty of room downstairs. Food was good. Friendly staff.
K. P.
Awesome place with some really good cocktails. Love the garden restaurant and the DJ. Best place to hang out with friends as well as for a date.
D. N.
Absolutely loved the food and hospitality. We had the platter. The staffs are very friendly. The environment, music, food, everything brings a good vibe to come with friends and enjoy the time. Will certainly be back. Thanks guys.
W. L.
Ahhh the old Slip Inn. So many lunch hours chilling with the boys at this place. The food is surprisingly good - burgers and chorizo quesadillas are standouts - but really this place is about shooting the breeze. Gets packed on Friday nights, sometimes Thursdays, and has a stellar back patio. The bread and butter for the establishment (yeah it's part of Merivale but doesn't feel like it) is probably Chinese Laundry which hosts big DJ nights on the weekends (club downstairs). You'd never know it on a regular afternoon. Shoutout to Kaos (bartender of the year!!!) and the crew that work there who kept me coming back. Really nice people!!!
J. M.
A smaller venue with a nice vibe and great food, one of my top 5 favourites in the city ☝
V. K. (.
Good after work spot. If it’s a group booking, there’s a dedicated space just for a corporate group
J. W.
Decent bar with a huge courtyard. Gets very packed so good if you're looking for a bustling place but not the best if you want to have a decent chat.
F. L.
Serves food till midnight, which is great. The Fried Cauliflower and the Baja Fish tacos were great. The Cochinita Pibil pork taco was truly nasty however; 99% guey, stretchy inedible fat, see pic.
M. H.
Conveniently located 2 min away from Pyrmont Bay light rail station. Foods are delicious, halal and you can eat by hand. People are so friendly. There is buffet, eat as much as you can at the cost you want to pay. What a good deal!
M. A.
It was my first visit and it's good, and vegetarian friendly too..
B. L.
Tacos are okay, the secret one and the fish are quite nice and they aren't skimpy on the fillings! Beef one was a bit soggy and flavourless. At 3 for $20 (normally $7 each), it's not really value for size.
T.
Not a pub guy, but it's a very nice spot. They've got some tasty food options that I imagine is better than the average pub food. Slightly higher end on the price for portion, but you don't come here to eat.
They have nice indoor and outdoor seating which is lit with a nice ambience. Great for groups to come together and have a good time.
Overall, the place has a nice vibe and a good location. This definitely reflects in the popularity, as the place is quite packed closer to the weekend. Worth checking out.
J. A.
Tacos fresh and tasty, show to arrive though Margaritas were not nice at all - treated like tap premix and a bottom shelf tequila for a top shelf price.
R. I.
Have a reposado tequila or three with a nice pint of tap beer. The coffee marinated steak is exceptional.
Music, staffs and atmosphere are all well established for a ctr+alt+del night
N. N.
A pretty cool Mexican flavoured pub. Margaritas are a must. And their wedges are so delicious!
A. G.
Best Jalapeno Margarita ever! Also love the that they stock the Balvenie Doublewood yum!
P. D.
Great vibes, drinks and decent food!!
O. Y.
Cool contemporary hangout spot. Great for groups.
H. L.
Great place to throw a group event. The outdoor space is large and spacious and the food is perfect for helping you not blackout :)
Happy hour beers are $6 (usually $12) and they offer orange and cinnamon slices with your tequila shot which is a nice switch up from limes and salt.
J. B.
Great food and environment, however, staff behind the bar needs immediate training please. At least let us know if you’re a new employee. I would be more understanding after waiting 45 minutes when there’s three people in the queue.
Update 40 minutes later, very pleasant manager is helping to expedite our food order.
Come on, over an hour on food and can’t get chips we ordered! It’s lunch time and not that busy.
Update, Will came by again and made things right. Thank you
M. P.
Went back today after lockdown you are hitting it! The food was exceptional and the service was fantastic as always.
J. N.
Great happy hour specials! Tasty, fresh tacos and sweet atmosphere outside.
E. T.
I had my birthday drinks at El Loco! It was a nice night - really lovely interior deco, good vibe and feel, busy on a Saturday night. The food was reasonably priced and good for snacking throughout drinks but the slushie special wasn’t amazing ($16 for a small plastic cup). I would come back but not for drinks.
A. H. N.
Great food, burgers are great, very crowded on Fridays
P. K.
Accessible inner city pub near King St wharf precinct
K. K.
The happy hour is 6-8pm which is great value. The upstairs is a cool chill-out if you're keen for a semi-quiet conversation with Colleagues or friends. Downstairs does get quite noisy and very packed on Friday nights so beware.
Be prepared to wait a little bit to get a drink on busy nights. The beef/pork nachos are my go-to if you're hungry and down to get a plate to share with a beer 👍✌
S. G.
I had my birthday event at the Slip Inn on Saturday. Extremely satisfied with the venue! The staff members and our host were incredibly nice and attentive. Food was delicious and they have a variety of share snacks and food that are perfect for gathering and events. Their happy hour (6pm to 8pm) was also a huge bonus for us! Overall a great experience and I would highly recommend them for your events. Thanks guys!
t. C.
This Mexican kind of bar is really full of energy with good drinks.
The food menu will have anything to make you enjoy the stay here and the ambiance is unbelievable.
They have a nice open space in the back for summer time and even winter.
The staff is nice and welcoming
B. W.
Nice venue and enjoyed most of the food.
V. S.
Great go to for after work drinks. Really friendly staff. Pop in for happy hour. Great margaritas and fish tacos are a winner. Also after hours guac has been a saviour many times.
M. V.
Been here a few times. Food is decent. Always busy.
Caters to working professionals, mostly corporate coming from Baranagroo.
Out back downstairs tend to serve mexican style food. Taste decent enough as bar snack food to compliment the drinks.
It's a mixed crowd there at times. A few backpackers do occasionally wander through but for the most part, fairly young 30s or 40s working corporate types.
J. C.
Christmas party was here, food was great
L. A.
Really fun, good music on Sundays
G. M.
The music was far too loud and we couldn't hold a conversation over it. This was at 6pm on a Tuesday. The staff were incredibly slow, even though the place wasn't busy. Took me nearly 25 minutes to order a drink.
The food was decent, but not amazing.
A. R.
Went in a group of 10 and 3 people's meals were forgotten. When we questioned, they said they were just busy and wouldn't be more than 10 minutes. We waited a further 30 minutes to receive our food. It is also extremely loud inside so if you are looking for a place to catch up in a group it isn't ideal. The food was very tasty which is why I have given 3 stars
p. a.
The place is fun and lively with good ambience. Service was really slow. We would be standing in bar for half an hour with no one serving us there. Finally, when we ordered our cocktails, they were served in plastic glasses.
M. R. U. R.
Nice place, but vert loud music haha
W. L.
Nice bar but pretty busy, it took so long to get a drink that we decided to buy a drink in our next bar
N. M.
Great vibe on a Friday night. Absolutely chokka, but worth it for the music, food and drinks.
J. A.
This place is so nice and big, it feels like a little oasis with bright colours and plants within the heart of the city. For vegan options, get the tofu tacos and request no mayo or get the corn chips with salsas from the starter menu.
S. C.
Been here a few times for work events. Please try of outside space, of you book in advance. Food is ok, nothing to write home about, simple basic food. Drinks are great, frozen Margherita's cannot be ignored! Staff, well, they are in Christmas period and we had 1 member serving drinks downstairs with a packed venue. There is inside and outside seating and plenty of it. Very popular place and location is convenient.
A. R.
Food and service on the weekend day shift can be pretty average, if the bar is understaffed.. But during the weekday rush they turn out some quality food options, and the alcohol definitely contains alcohol. Score a seat in the courtyard if you can, beautiful ambience despite the proximity to freeway traffic.
D.
Decent happy hour. Bit steep after that.
I once ordered a mushroom burger but got a beef burger and i couldn't tell the difference...I'll leave that to you to decide whether thats poor service or good food...
I. B.
Good beers and nice Margueritas !!! Was very busy but device was reasonably speedy. Mexican food was tasty, had nachos and tacoa which were pretty good. Good for groups and larger functions. Good outdoor area out the back.
B. K.
Awesome outside area!
Had a tofu taco and crumbed barramundi one on a $5/taco Tuesday. So little fish and so much panko :( still - not bad and tofu was surprisingly good and flavoursome!
Food came out very fast and it wasn’t crowded so no problem getting a table at lunch time
P. W.
The venue itself is 2 levels not including the night club "Chinese Laundry" down stairs in what could be called a basement level. The Sussex street level is the the larger indoor seating area. The lower ground level has a small indoor seating area, but mainly outdoor seating. As this is a historical building I don't think these levels are accessible friendly. I suggest booking in advance of you want to get a table on the busy days (THURS - SAT) as there is almost never any free tables and will just mainly be standing room along busy thoroughfares. Everyday during June since 2018 they have been holding a 49% off all drinks during happy hour (5pm - 7pm), so you can imagine how packed Merivale (the owners of this venue and a few more) venues can get during this time in an expensive city like Sydney. The vibe of the place can be pretty lively, so if you expect to be able to have a quiet conversation with your friends, this is not the place. The music is usually pumping evening and even during lunch time. Slip Inn is definitely more of a pub/bar than a club, so even though the music is pumping there is not that much dancing going on. The TexMex food menu is very yummy. The service is a bit hit and miss - slightly more hit than miss - to be honest. Sometimes superb other times, you're waiting 1hr for your food because they've forgotten to make it and not solely because they are busy. The bars (no matter which level) can also see massive lines, so it's not surprising at times to be lined up at the bar waiting for a drink for a good 20-30mins when this place is crazy busy.
S. P.
Stopped by this place after activities in the harbour. Tacos were yummy and they had a few different options :) The staff were all very friendly and the location was convenient for us. Would definitely recommend!
M. C.
Good place for a work lunch with tasty Mexican food as well as drinks / cocktails after work. Watch out for the $6.50 lemon lime bitters. The beer is better value!
J.
Delicious, good vibe, quite pricey
G. G.
Good atmosphere and a hidden outdoor beer garden style surprise

(06/2018)
This Mexican pub and restaurant is located over Sussex street and can be easily spotted on the roadside from a moving vehicle in normal traffic. Convenient location and easily approachable.
Well maintained. Spacious seating arrangement.
Good ambiance and casual atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff.
Plentiful food options including many vegetarian ones. Food is well presented.
Table service. Outdoor seating is not available.
Reservation can be made in advance and is recommended for groups.
Good for groups, catch-ups and families.
Could not notice wheelchair accessible seating or high chair in plain view at this location.
There is no dedicated restaurant parking at this location.
V. M.
El loco is a good place for go for food and drinks. They're open from 12 so you can go for lunch and dinner. They have an extensive menu from tacos to burgers, with quite a sizeable serving. The food is well made and comes out in a reasonable time. Be sure to try the slushies! They're refreshing but also might creep up on you.
S. B.
Nice outdoors area and live music, however strange drink prices. First round of two drinks was $18.60, second $20.35 and final $23.70. Exactly the same drinks each time and not part of any happy hour deal. Trying to query with the music playing was too much hassle. Worth a visit, but maybe keep an eye on how the drinks are put through the till, hence the 3 stars.
E. H.
Head downstairs after entering off Sussex St for a great beer garden feel. Food and drink options are great and there are some great deals. Plenty of atmosphere on busy nights, Friday night being the night I visited. Bars available both upstairs and downstairs so no need to carry your drinks far!
D. D. J.
I have been to Slip in for years now and it's starting to become a little dated and old. On the plus side the staff a friendly and very welcoming. Still a great bar to stop off for your afternoon beer
P. G.
Great place to meet up or have a quiet drink. You never know whether you may bump into royalty along the way. The outdoor beer garden is fantastic on a balmy summers night. With respect to food, there is a nice Thai bistro as well.
M. B.
Great venue however food and food service is hit or miss.
I. I.
Food was okay. The vibe was interesting, we were in a big group so created our own vibe. Drinks are usual city prices, though happy hour is good.
D. S.
We arrived last Saturday at 3pm and we wait for more than 1 hour our lunch (tapas an bacon burgers) and a details only us were at this restaurant (so not busy). After it the staff they gave us some drinks free.
The staffs they are really friendly, location is good next to Darling Harbour.
J. R.
Went on a Friday night and it, as probably expected, was packed. There was a large group of us so we had booked a table. When we got there we were told there was no booking under our name, even though we had received confirmation. We then had to go looking for somewhere to sit/stand. The staff member then came over and found us a table. I ordered the small tacos which were quite good and as we were there during happy hr we were there for $5 drinks. Apart from the table situation it was a good night.
K. S.
Its grand if you like this sort of food
The tortillas were yummy, but the atmosphere is a little forced. Concentrate on the food not the paint.
Staff were nice though.
Easy lunch away from maddening city crowd. Quite expensive for mexican food!
C.
Great atmosphere, especially in warmer weather. Mexican theme and decent size outdoor area. Easy access down to Chinese laundry on Fri and sat nights. $5 beer & wine 5-7.
Y. M.
Great music and atmosphere, drinks are reasonably priced for a pub in CBD too
P. D.
Location: Easily accessible and visible on the corner of Sussex St and King St in the city.
Food quality: All of the tacos are amazing! The fillings are great and plentiful, as well as, very juicy. The chicken wings come out hot and spicy. El Loco has a variety of mains as well from chicken schnitzels to steaks and salad.
Drinks: Can't go wrong at this bar. Though, when trying their cocktails be sure to get a bartender that doesn't need to ask another bartender how to make it. I had a cocktail which tasted like pure tequila, but wasn't that bad for me in my perspective.
Service: Bartenders are bartenders, drink in hand equals a happy person.
Environment: Very lively on a Friday night and was packed full downstairs in the courtyard.
Interesting fact: Happy hour is great for those who love coronas. Definitely a good place to hangout and have a group of friends at a reserved table.
Apart from one badly diluted margarita, every part of the experience was great. The food comes out quite timely and waiters and waitresses seem to find the table you're at quite easily despite the masses of people. One time, the waitress had forgotten about one of my taco orders and I had reminded her about it. Next minute, she comes out with 2 tacos in which one was on the house due to the inconvenience! Really good service and I was happy with my drinks.
OVERALL: Would recommend for a good place to drink (8/10 for drinks), (10/10 for Mexican/Western food).
s. m.
Friday is a very busy night, drinks are ok priced, however the happy hour is to short its difficult to get to the bar, but the drinks are really nice and the service is quick after requesting the drinks.
Bathrooms are very crowded it takes about 15-20 min to be able to get to the bathroom at the end of the night the bathrooms had a lot of broken glasses and the bathrooms are to tight and there are only 2 wc per floor.
I. L.
Good quick pub food. Decent beer on draught. Great outdoor area out the back.
L. N.
Great food! I had chicken burger today for lunch and it was delicious.
However, it was a very small serve of fries on my dish compering to my friend's plates which we ordered same burgers....why????
H. W.
Awesome place. Nice and clean. Tasty food and amazing bar. Loved it
C. P.
Excellent food at this place. Try the spicy chicken sandwich and chicken wings, you won't regret it..
P. M.
Nice pub, they currently have a great deal of 49% off all drinks until 7pm which makes the place full and very interesting for drinks after work. It's in a good location and has a nice atmosphere! Service was just ok and the bathroom is just too small for the number of people in the place.
K. F.
Awesome venue with a few different areas to suit your mood. Good reasonably priced food. Goes off on Friday for after work drinks (make sure you book a table!)
S. M.
Lucky we arrived at 12pm! By 12.15 the place was packed, even on a Tuesday. My bacon cheeseburger and fries were excellent and came out of the kitchen very quickly.
P. R.
We went there as a group of friends and atmosphere is bar at the middle and few seating arrangements. Food is reallly good but therebis no bar tender so one of our friends keep on take order for our table and miss the fun of being together.
L. M.
Pretty good cocktails at $15 and standard priced beverages, El Loco had some great old skool rnb bangers which were free at to dance to.
The staff moved furniture out of the way to create dance floor space and were nice and friendly overall with no troubles.
B. B.
The food is typical pub food and is fine, other drinks may be better, but the beer experience here is atrocious. The selection is awful by 2017 standards, the draught lines are obviously never properly cleaned and no matter what style beer you order it is served frozen.
B. D.
Had a nice Mexican feel to it especially for Cinco de Mayo. The food was fantastic. Drinks prices were what you would expect for this kind of venue in Sydney. Seating at the high tables downstairs was very uneven
E. D.
Very cheerful and friendly staff. Food and beer was fine, it's not my cup of soy-latte, but my wife loved it.
E. S.
Great chilled and relax. Came here for lunch few times and afternoon drinks after work and on a nice day make sure to take advantage of the courtyard. Stay once the sun has set to experience another side of the bar.
C. W.
The Mexican theme here is a winner, decent food at good pub prices. It's great to sit outside on a summer lunch hour, but get in early if you want a table on a nice day.
M. M.
Lunchtime visit on a rainy day = very quite (which I did). Very cool layout and design. Food pretty good. I imagine this place going off at the right times.
W. F. E.
I just want to go back to El Loco. I have a slight addiction I think. Luckily one of my friends had birthday drinks at the Slip Inn which gave me an opportunity to try their fries, salsa/dip with corn chips and indulge in those tacos. This is my favourite booze food.
After a few vodka cranberries, the food was probably more tasty because of the inherent tipsiness that ensued. My favourite salsa/dip is still probably at Mexico in Surry Hills (which has since closed) but these snacks are still good.
A. R.
Slow service but the beer was a reasonable price during happy hour. It gets a bit cramped and they don't have much seating except for a lot of reserved tables with no one at them.
E. V.
I think this one is a bit better than it's mother branch in Surry Hills as this one is whole lot bigger which suits very well for big groups and for those who doesn't want to line up just to get a table. They serve quite a good selection of Mexican beers, and pretty good selection of Aussie beers on tap too. My only complaint is the faux Mexican food.
E. G.
The food is mediocre or at least the Mexican one. Had tacos and wasn't really happy with them, the burger was ok. It has a nice garden and a cool relaxed atmosphere. Wouldn't go there for food, but for drinks why not.
N. S.
Slip-in has always been my favourite place for 1 reason.. their Nachos (veg one). But recently I have seen the quality of Nachos has gone down significantly. Few months back they used to fill the nachos with beans, cheese, little salsa? And their sauce options were good with sour cream, avacodo and cheese dips.. but nowadays, you need to request sour cream seperately.. the quality of Nachos toppings also have gone done despite the price remains the same .. I condemn this. #Nachosforlife #slipinnsydney
J. D.
I am really picky about my tacos and margaritas and this place ticked every box! Fresh, not over complicated and not drowned in sauce or cheese. Really authentic tortillas! I was lucky enough to talk to the head chef while I was having my margaritas made, and found out where they source them from. Margaritas were on point and my Hubs, who loves spice, really enjoyed their Watermelon Margarita. We came for the Dia de Muerte celebration but I guarantee we will be back. Muy Beuno!
T. T.
Great Mexican style pub for some beers and a bite. They do serve nice cocktails.
S.
Cool venue to visit on a Friday night as there are different sections with music playing. Food and drinks are pricey but would definitely go again.
R. M.
Had enjoyed coming here for tacos and beer at lunch previously, but with my last experience after not visiting for over a year I found things a bit pricier and the tacos sub par. Still a nice beer garden though
S. K.
Great place for a work event or just hang out with mates. Can get extremely busy after work hours though so best reserve a table. Try the outside (downstairs) area.
C. A.
Ok. Not great. Taco’s were a bit soggy and beef was fatty. The service was good and the atmosphere was nice. The Nachos and Burgers (which I didn’t order) looked good.
N. M.
Good happy hour selection, usually good selection of usual beers in tap. Didn't eat this time, but coming back next week!
H. P.
Good place to have a beer or some nice mexican food. Its pretty good on fridays and saturday nights...
A. W.
Inside is a topical pub feel with cheap chairs, not a great atmosphere but pop out the back and you will find El Loco with an amazing beer garden relaxed feel, the topic mexican decore and the usual tacos. Food and drinks are expensive but definitely worth it on a sunny afternoon.
R. C.
Good place for Friday after work cheap drinks. They also do a range of cheap tacos and other mexican food. This place can get pretty busy and there is an outdoor area out the back,
g. t.
Loud music, loud people, loud decor - that pretty much sums up this buzzing cbd venue. The atmosphere was ablaze the Friday night we were there for Margaritas and Tacos. Great place to grab some after work drinks and juicy tacos. On Friday nights it sometimes feel like half the CBD is unwinding here which makes for great atmosphere however be prepared shout to be heard and to jostle your way through the crowds for food and drinks. Quesadillas and tacos were delish and the cocktails were suitably punchy as well.
Tip: Grab a few mates and do a group booking online via their website to snag one of the coveted tables in the courtyard.
P. G.
Great food and the place has a nice relaxed vibe.
T. L.
Food was really poor - especially the hot dog. The gravy on the schnitzel was cheap gravox. Doesn’t seem to serve the same food as the Surry hills el loco? What’s with the cheese sauce on the hot dog?
L. S.
Great food & drink at el loco. The cantina setting downstairs is a really good date place. Get the pulled pork roll or the fish taco if you wanna get a bite.
E. M.
I have always liked how casual this place is and easy to access. The beer garden is a little hidden gem and there is an indoors section downstairs next to the beer garden. I've been to private functions here also which are great for team Christmas parties. A definite for any visitor wanting a quick bite to eat or good range of beer.
L. W.
Great vibe, not too pricey. Excellent outdoor area. Lacking in food variety.
N. H.
Went here a few weeks ago for some Mexicano food. The half-chicken was raw and had to be sent back twice. What redeems this from being a 1 star stinker is the unrivalled empathy of the waitstaff who were genuinely understanding and offered us free beer.
R. C.
Good spot in this part of town. Reasonable beer prices
N. S.
Haven't tried the alcohol, however three micro tacos for $22 was way way too expensive. Please either give bigger sizes or reduce a price in half.
P. N.
Great food, great staff. Amazing place
G. L.
Too loud since on a main road. The food is plain. Not a good place for vegetarians. It's not a place I'd really recommend if you're up for decent meal. But for beers and snacks it's ok.
B. K.
Hhhmmm tacos, nachos, quesadilla and so on guessed it right - Mexican it is. Great indoor and outdoor setup however, tables could be sticky and food portions are small.
S. V.
Lots of taco choices.
H. G.
Partially open-air section of the Slip Inn. Like every pub in the Sydney CBD, it's crowded on a Friday night but it was actually possible to have a conversation. Spaghetti-Western style decor. Hyped up 80s music.
J. B.
Fantastic outdoor dining on a nice day! The chicken burgers here are the best I've ever had. Highly recommended!
M. Z.
Service could have been a bit quicker. Otherwise, great place
A. F.
great mexican atmosphere. cold beer good food. nice and close to darling harbor and right on top of the Chinese laundry if that's your thing
l. d.
They make nice margarita
j. s.
Love the vibe of el loco. My favourite place for a Saturday night
O. L.
Liked the bar in the backyard. Nice food
A. A. T.
Nice place, food and drinks are will priced
B. N.
Great food and good drinks. All through June, the happy hour (5-7) is half price all drinks!!! Get down there now!
T. J.
Great place for happy hour and tacos!
B. Y.
Overpriced "mexican" food but decent flavours. The atmosphere here is great for a drink. Their fried chicken wings are awesome.
J. R.
Great food..service good but slow.
L. L.
Cozy place, it's a bit hard to order drinks though. Can't even take shots away from bar.
J. H.
Great atmosphere on a Friday afternoon. Had a chilli dog and it tasted great as well!
M. L.
Delicious food, great range of drinks - perfect for the corporate lunch
S. E.
This place always has such a good vibe. I always like it outside, the beer garden is set up with super pretty lights, tunes and has a smoking section for those inclined.
A. T.
Nice vibe, tonight bit noisy but great staff
J. Z.
Great burgers. Top spot. Relaxed atmosphere
D. C.
Mexican bar with good atmosphere. Food is not too pricy and very good tasting. Good for large groups and if you want a quick bite.
b. w.
Now that SI is el loco, I don't know if I necessarily love it. And I love El loco in surry hills but here, things are pricier so you get this taco for $6... instead of $5 at surry hills (admittedly I haven't been back to SH's so maybe the price increase is universal). But isn't mexican food cheap to make so why the price highjack? The hotdogs are good as are the tortas. Churros also good. Just not too happy about the dollar markup. Friends have complained that they wish the thai/western food menu is still here as the portions for SI's el loco they feel is expensive and you pay too much for food.
P. A. P. J.
I come here often for drinks on Friday after work but never ordered food until a week ago. The DIY tacos are really yum.
G. C.
Slip Inn seems to have lasted the distance, while many bars and pubs around it have failed—maybe it's because Mary met her Prince here! It's good for an after work drink and has decent food to match. Steer clear on Saturday nights unless you're up for a big night.
M. W.
Pretty good bar with a fun environment. Tends to get a bit cramped and the tables are generally all booked out.
P. T.
First time going on a saturday night, prices are great for drinks deoends what u buy i guess, lovely staff and security! Great outing place, and gets really crowed, amazing vibe all night (:
M. K.
I had the greatest time here for Valentine’s Day. Kwasi was so hospitable and lovely that it made my night a breeze ❤️❤️ Would definitely come back
M. R.
Only giving this 4 start because it does not open on Sunday. You guys should consider opening on Sunday durning summer time! :( Other than that Food is amazing and we love our frozen mojitos!
S. I.
Everything cute here
lovely staffs as well
why not coming again?
A. S.
Great place! Some of the best fries I have eaten!
Goes abit downhill after they close the outdoor area at midnight... security got very pushy as they closed it off.
I. C.
Good spot. Can be noisy. The venue also likes to pump the music LOUD early in the afternoon so it is impossible to have a conversation with people. I have previously asked the staff to reduce the volume and they have actioned it. A better happy hour deal would see more people come through the doors I reckon.
G.
Good place for after work drinks
s. s.
It's a lovely colorful place for an after office drinks or hangout with friends. They do really good Mexican shareplates to go with your drinks.
D. M.
Friendly staff, yummy food.
Went for lunch yesterday and Danika was amazing, super friendly. We will definitely be back 👏🏼 Well done
R. R.
Great venue, great staff, great selection of food and house white is probably the best wine I've had during happy hour. Would recommend.
F. L.
There's a good evening atmosphere with ample space, but very expensive drinks. We were charged $28 for a beer and a vodka Redbull.
M. G.
Good friendly bar. Mexican restaurant also inside. Heaps of sitting room both inside and outside
L.
One of my favourite venue in the cbd! Musis is always great and the sfatff as well. Perfect place for drinks after work! Highly recommend !
K. G.
Slipp Inn... where I can fuel my love for tacos, hotdogs and 90's boy bands at the one venue. Beer garden is always fun on a Friday night for afterwork drinks.
Be sure to see Pip - Greatest/ Sexiest Bartender I have ever met!
S. N.
Was my first time visiting El Loco I was really surprised with the location and loved the atmosphere!
We enjoyed the happy hours and nice Mexican food
Will definitely recommend
P. P.
This place is great! We had some amazing food and drinks. My favourite was the Nacho's and Quesadillas. Amazing stuff.
C. F.
Good food and a good space
V. W.
Tried the pulled pork burgers they were good. Overpriced drinks. Self service - order at the counter, food comes to you, drinks you pick up at counter.
K. R.
Great place if you want to enjoy a warm summer evening on the terrace. But you can wait ages to get a drink (especially on Fridays) and the staff is a bit rude, which spoils the experience.
T. H.
Had the fajitas for 2 and the meal was pretty tasty, it would've been even better if they didnt give our meal away to someone else who already ordered the same dish and then forgot about us.
A. S.
Love this bar, they have el loco Mexican food, upstairs bar, downstairs bar and basement night club Chinese laundry! Cool place to go for some drinks and food! El loco serves until midnight
G.
Crowded is an understatement. However, is there anywhere in the city nowadays that isn't crowded. Just another outlet for alcohol and food. Food is good. Beer garden or the courtyard is also good. Went there 4 times and couldnt get a place a seat outside. Nothing great and nothing bad.
A.
We went taco night and the tacos were quiet wet, otherwise I've had a nice burger and the venue isn't too bad
A. M.
An old classic, needs a refresh. Usually super busy. Food is OK.
S. U.
A bit noisy place, but I love the food and set up.
A. T.
Really cool and colourful courtyard and bar area out the back, you totally don't expect it. Taco's were some of the best I'd had!
C. B.
Pretty cool place but must have the slowest bars in Sydney. Food was good but staff wanted to be elsewhere.
P. W.
Nice chilled place and great for outdoors. They sell the best tequila!!!
N. P.
Popped in for a quick bite and few drinks... food was delicious and our bartender was danika, really cool with great energy , can’t wait till next time
r. m.
We were upstairs for a party. Venue was great and so was food!!!
S. L.
Love the slip inn burger, can be crowded on Friday nights. Best to book in advance or you may not get a table for your group
D. P.
Ok, fairly quiet when we attended. Beer was good
S. P.
Amazing food. Great vibe
D. T.
Great venue and good Mexican food. Nice chilled joint for a drink with friends though it gets pretty nuts at peak times.
M. H.
Good Food and Service. Perfect for groups and birthdays. Atmosphere was good. Overall experience was awesome
V. D. L. C.
The place is very nice but it is too noisy. Evenf if you go at 7 pm on Friday night they put the music too loud. Don't go there on Friday night it is super crowded
A. J.
Amazing place, good atmosphere and mexican food is amazing. Watch out for a shifty looking lady called Helen though she swans about asking for selfies in a worrying manner.
P. P.
Nachos were yummy and plenty of room for everyone
W. B.
Merrivale get the recipe spot on again. Good food. Good happy hour. Decent outdoor area. Can get busy at times.
T. B.
Awesome saucy chicken burger, decent selection of spirits and with a cute courtyard
t. m.
El loco is a Mexican bar, which has a happy hour 5p.m.-7p.m. and every day special. I enjoyed for short resting.
S. R.
great pub in uptown location
D. M.
Nice bar delicious Tacos but a little expensive...
B. R.
Really great food. Loved it
C. C.
Yeah it's okay , had the coconut margarita slushee thing but it gave me a brainfreese when I tried to smash it. Food looked okay but nothing on the menu caught my eye
t. w.
Very average food for its price. It has a descent atmosphere if you can ever find a seat outside.
R. R.
Great chips but average burger, very greasy. However great atmosphere, music and cocktails on point.
M. E.
Decent pub to visit after work on a Friday. Staff are friendly and food is ok. Music played is nice.
R. P.
Food is overpriced and alright tasting but it's fast and service is good.
S. A. M. (.
Good music, great crowd and high energy. Chanced upon it with a team meeting but loved everything about this place.
B. D.
It is deceiving from the outside, but inside there is space on ground level, on the roof and in a nice semi open bar out the back. On a sunny day this outside area is a great place to stop for a relaxing drink. There is no view, but it is surprisingly enjoyable given the position beside the highway. They have good steaks here.
D. G.
The food is pretty good but the service leaves a lot to be desired. The food didn't come out at the same time and they seemed to forget several of our meals.
R. H.
Nice venue. I didn't meet a royal prince and become the crown princess of Denmark though...
N. W.
A good handful selections of tacos to choose from. Very friendly and helpful staff.
s. n.
Found tasty vegetarian option . Thank you
P. D.
Nice environment and food mainly if you go with your friends because they have a few really big tables 😃
N. K.
Nice bar downstairs but very very slow service. If another bar person turned up, the first would leave even before finishing the current service.
p. t.
Great food and friendly staffs.
Most importantly the special recommended by lady at the bar .
C. L.
Always a solid time at Slip-in! Staff are always friendly, service is great and the atmosphere is always fun and light.
A great place to catch up with friends on a chatty afternoon or Friday night.
L. V.
Work lunch, 2 people, my hot meal arrived quite fast but my colleagues took 30min so I had finished already... poor service and expectations management.
J. M.
Ordinary in every way. Sticky floors and mediocre food. If you want to go out clubbing with 20 something's you've found the sweet spot.
P. M.
A lovely and nice Mexican pub with beautiful back yard. The food is good and there are plenty of choices.
E. F.
Great place for taco Tuesday
M. K.
More than anything, their DIY taco for two is really good for $35. Churros was also delicious.
A. W.
Good food always and good vibes
C. M.
Great Mexican food and really friendly staff. The prawn tacos are very tasty 😋
O. B.
The 2nd floor is avaliable for hire and has multiple rooms allowing for easy conversations over a nice drink. Food service was also excellent.
M. Z.
Good place for spending some time.
D. M.
A brilliant Monday night. 15 dollar burgers. The chicken burger is heaven and great drink list
L. M.
Great food, great cocktails and exceptional service. Cannot wait to have another serve of chicken wings.
J. D.
Pretty good food, great selection of drinks and the best beer garden in the city. Brilliant on a nice day.
F. h.
Decent pub, always worth a look.
M. M.
Great tacos and bites to eat.
M. A.
One of the large pub closer to darling harbour area. Few floors with outdoor area in rooftop.. Good selection of drinks and food. Less selection of wine is something they need to reconsider.
K. D.
El Loco has been consistently good in the five years that I've been visiting. Go to dishes are the tacos, steak and hot dog.
C. M.
Fun ambiance for an office boozy lunch in the CBD. Food was good, if a bit on the pricey side for the sizes.
M. S.
Fun bar in the Sydney CBD with a great beer garden. Sister bar to ElLoco in Surry Hills. The hot dog is a must have.
T. R.
Nice and tasty food. I still don't like high chairs. Fast and polite staff.
T. W.
Good little Mexican restaurant with great drink options and layout in an easy location. Food was good without being great.
C. P. T.
A fun place in the city centre with an open courtyard and multiple bars. Perfect for a sunny day and some casual Mexican food.
A. C.
A good happy hour from 7 that has 7 dollar pints, cider included and on tap. Food is overpriced with small servings. A good atmosphere and a couple of floors.
S. M.
Good location and lots of space with outdoor seating. Can be pretty loud if you are looking for a quiet place
W. D.
Pretty loud and busy place. The staff were ok but being so busy there's a wait for food and drinks... Went in summer and there lacked some airflow which made it a sweaty experience.
H. R.
Taco Tuesday!
$5 tacos and most are great.
Nachos are awesome as are the salt and pepper squid
A. S.
Great company in this great place!
S. C.
Menu was wonderful as were the vibes and the rnb downstairs was great however no one was really dropping it as low as I do.
K. S.
Always a good spot for a week day drinks and snacks
R. S.
Great spot for a few drinks. The downstairs area is where all the magic happens!
W. W.
Great for large crowds, good outdoor area. Happy hour are a huge plus too
G. W.
Fun little bar for a quick drink. Good cocktails, wonderfully terrible music
J. J.
Freshly brewed beer with a drinking atmosphere and delicious snacks
P. E.
very nice, lots of variety on tap and the food is 5 star.
R. M.
Good Food, and underneath the dining area, the outdoor place is very nice to grab a drink
A.
Service quite slow during happy hour ☹
s. n.
The ambience and food is good. The Quesadillas are great! Chicken and corn was the one I tried and was really good.
L. B.
Not a bad bar but not great
a. m.
Great food. Friendly staff. Cant get enough of the fried chicken burger.
H. N.
The food is good, attention is really good, but the place smells bad and there are only 2 woman toilets which is bad given the amount of ppl that go there
F. L.
Good tacos and nachos. Even the burgers are decent. Good outdoor seating area
j. s.
Great value meal here but too busy. Not a good place to talk quietly.
J. R.
A nice place to hangout, but is really crowded
K. D.
Good for drinks and tacos never order the quesadillas they are like rubber and your jaw will hurt
G. N.
Always fun at the slipp in! Especially upstairs in The house of Merrivale if you have an event. The bar upstairs is very small though but the spaces are great.
A. H.
Amazing venue! Experience mad memorial especially by Jeremy who demonstrated fantastic customer service.
Highly recommended!!
S. W.
Good pub, food average
J. L.
Go for the outdoor garden. Kind of Latino, Mexican vibe. A good place to have a drink after work in a different environment.
C. B.
Ridiculously busy on Friday lunchtimes and impossible to get a table unless booked and very long queues at the bar even if you have.
K. K.
EL LOCO SPECIFICALLY
Large bar and great venue for casual parties in the green room! Staff are responsible but we experienced a bit of rudeness - but it didnt take away from the experience. Love the fries and chipotle mayo, good menu and great drinks.
Lots of room. The green room is not totally away from the public bar space, doors are always open so sound cannot be blocked out. Great decor, TV available and great music.
M. J.
Great tacos for $5. Drinks are great and the outdoor area is amazing in the sun.
M. A.
Good venue, but the drinks prices are on the higher end of things, probably more on par with the Darling Harbour pricing scheme than some of the other places in the CBD of similar quality.
It was noteworthy that as the night went on, the quality of care for the toilets went down markedly, despite the lesser crowds after the end of the Friday afternoon swill sessions.
B. B.
Lovely ambiance and heaps of space. The food is pretty decent too.
K. P.
Went here for meet-ups, great indoor and outdoor environment, live music and great drinks
J. S.
Only local place showing the rugby. Cocktails have a mexican twist and they don't short change them
P.
Amazing outdoor venue, great cocktails and friendly staff.
g. g.
Nice for a Friday lunch and few drinks. Located in a great location and the venue is amazing!
T. S.
Gear bar service could be a few more bar girls for the busy Xmas period. Place to meet a prince or princes. Grab a boy or girl lots of nooks and crannies!
S. D.
Trendy, popular bar, drinks half price up to 8pm
A. J.
El loco Mexican is a fun place to meet up with friends
G.
Always busy Dam good burgers and has a beer garden with a DJ on a Friday
T. M.
Decent Mexican food, a little expensive
G.
Very popular venue for the office crowd after work on weekdays. A younger, noisier crowd on Saturday evenings.
D. D.
The music was giod that night. Mostly men there. Food was good, cocktails too
J. R.
Well we love the slip inn for the fact you can marry a prince 😎 but it is also a half decent pub...
E. B.
Decent for after work drinks. Pretty good wine selection and outdoor area.
C. W.
Loud, dark, great food, reasonable selection on tap
T. R.
Once a great venue, now a tacky mexican gimick with average food.
L. P.
$5 taco night on Tuesdays is fab! Delicious tacos and good vibes
K. S.
Nice tucked away beer garden
R. P.
Nice food and nice local.
P. S.
Pretty vibin in the beer garden. Inside is a bit dead, so maybe quicker to get a drink from that bar instead 🍻
a. D.
Good atmosphere. Good crowd. A bit loud downstairs. Not cheap
M. F.
Good beer, food and quiet nice environment. Good service too
a. s.
Was surprised to see such a big open space in the mid of the CBD.. I am always into Mexican food, so bang on.. Very soon, I will be back!!
E. F.
Love this place, the nachos, the spiral's chips, the cocktail and the atmosphere are amazing...
P. K.
Very quiet when we went in and a bit tacky
A. M.
Reliable spot for a beer close to the CBD
M. M.
Nice bar. Outdoor seating is better atmosphere than inside.
A. R.
Great nachos! Not sure about the burgers though.
B.
What a lovely little venue.
Fairly quiet during the week but can get really busy on the weekends.
D. b.
Great people watching venue
R. L.
Great vibe, chilled environment. Excellent mexian and burgers but a bit on the pricy side.
A. M.
Nice little bar
F. T.
Great food. Love the waffle fries.
K. H.
Nice food ambience. Only 2 counters to give orders leading to longer queue at busy time.
S. P.
Great little Mexican restaurant. Props for entertainment!! Had that real Mexican feel.
J. M.
Good drinks, Jalapeño margarita is a winner. Food is decidedly average though.
S. A.
Lively bar with friendly staff and a good selection of drinks that is open late.
J. B.
Good friendly pub.
K. N.
Great food and vibe! Super friendly staff too
A. B.
It is always fun to eat at the slip in. The outdior dining area is fantastic, and the food is good.
A. S.
Cool place to hang out
M. W.
Had my birthday here and staff and venue was great. Highly recommended!
A. W.
Fun Margaritas and good vibes even on a Thursday night.
S. P.
they now have el lloca as a pop up selection here so it is most definitely worth coming for this little bar down the other side of the busy sydney city center.
M. C.
Nice for a beer and a bite to eat, staff are friendly but service a little slow
S. C.
Great atmosphere, food is good but expensive, enjoyed the staff
A. R.
Bit pricey but nice little spot good food good drinks
S. S.
But silly to make the happy hour at 6pm, when most work places finish at 4/5 but hey ho that's just me.
M. N.
Tabatha was the best hostess! Friendly, warm and bubbly. Love it.
G. C.
Bring a conversation partner to the bar during peak hours; you will be waiting a l-o-n-g while!
K. S.
Your usual after work pub. It gets packed on Fridays. Tacos are the thing to eat.
K. B.
Good place to visit with a group
S. B.
Can get crowded sometimes. Great atmosphere and good food.
F. C.
Bit pricey. The Tuesday special was $5 for one taco. It was okay.
S. G.
The food was good and mice to place to hang out with friends.
R. g.
Nice beer garden in the centre of the city and great Mexican food!
A. O.
Great place for after work drinks, got great Mexican food too
G. M.
Love the tacos here. And not to miss the awesome deals on the drinks
B. N.
Great food and drinks. Nice atmosphere.
J. M.
Nice exciting pub and great place to hang out and eat Mexican!
M. A.
Had a great time, but music was a bit boring
E. B.
Pip is the best bar tender ever. And those Chipolte fries are out of this world!
N. S.
Pretty good place, go for the tacos, stay for the beer!
N. S.
Friendly staff and a good atmosphere. Was a great place to drink!
T. H.
Nice place for beer and tacos, with outdoor beer garden.
I've only been here on several Friday nights but it seems to be always completely packed with people. It is so overcrowded especially in downstairs courtyard, it gets difficult to get to the bar to get drinks, let alone get a seat to have tacos. Being crowded means it's also very loud and you will have difficult time converse. Some may find this buzzing and wonderful atmosphere but it can become too much depending on your occasion. If you are heading here try to go in the early evening to grab a drink and move out before the crowd, or actually book a table.
I liked the food from el loco. Tacos were wonderfully spicy and full of flavours, great with beer.
N. P.
Large Mexican bar in cbd with comfortable and cool garden and good dishes.
B. R.
Surprisingly cool place for something that's right in the middle of the city. Feels like you're overseas in maybe Mexico or something
C. C.
Fun place that's open late. Good drinks and Mexican food
R. G. (. S.
Nice pub and bar
M. G.
Great place and I would go again, although the people are not customer service oriented. Also the prices are SO EXPENSIVE!
N. M.
Ideal for a quick lunch
T. H.
Great for group gatherings, food to share at fair prices.
O. M.
Really low key
