I have been going to Fix since 2008 and can honestly say I have never had a bad experience. The food is sensational - if you are a lover of chateaubriand or other big meat cuts, I’d recommend ordering ahead to avoid missing out. Menu has great variety but the pasta’s are always amazing, as are the starters & sides! Where the real magic is.... THE WIIIIINE!!! You can go as reasonable on price as you like and there is a great variety with global coverage at every level... but if you want a real experience and don’t have the concern around budget, let Stu drive on the wine journey! Great team at Fix - Stu & Tris are always full of energy & the rest of the team will ensure your glass is never empty.

A sensational little bar. Stu absolutely nails the wine food blend. The new menu is brilliant. The duck pancake was brilliant. Sydney Rock Oysters are simply wonderful. The staff are so accommodating and helpful. Anytime you need advice on wine and food pairing Stu is the authority to go to. Close to the station. Easy to access. A beautiful little venue with fantastic staff and fantastic wine choices!

I'm very disappointed this place has escaped me for so long. Once a year a group of us have our annual "Grange" tasting (sometimes the Grange is the cheapest wine we drink) in the best restaurant we can find that will allow us to bring a few bottles of our own. As the only vegetarian in our carnivore-centric drinking group I know it p****s off the convenor she has to find a restaurant that serves vegetables. But I digress. Fix doesn't look like the place to hold a special gourmet event, but looks can be deceiving. Stuart put together a special meal to accommodate our diverse dietary requirement, and it couldn't have been better. He threw some wine of his own in amongst the thousands of dollars worth of high end stuff we brought ourselves, and it did not disappoint. Stuart is a knowledgeable, enthusiastic host, and the food and wine exemplify his passion for quality. I can't wait to go back to work my way through his wine list. I'm certain like Fix itself, Stuart will have some wine gems that have thus far eluded me. Highly recommended.

We visited Fix Wine Bar as part of the Chateau Tanunda members wine dinner. The food was delicious and the service exceptional. The gluten free person in our group was a little disappointed to miss out on the beef course because of how great it looked and smelled. A lovely evening.

While this place may look unassuming, it is a wine lovers paradise, with 2012 Sommelier of the Year Stuart Knox selecting an eclectic and incredibly sexy range of wines for his extensive list. The food here is top notch too. Don't go past the smoked eel souffle, it's an absolute winner! If you're not too sure what to pick from the menu, ask the staff to bring you a glass of something special and they'll happily oblige.

Stuart Knox, what to say about this funny dude with red shoes. One of the best wine palates in the country. Great selection of Australian and imported drops. Once Stuart gets to know your tastes on the first visit then every other trip to this iconic wine bar will be entering the menagerie of flavours, scents and feelings. An adventure in drinking grape juice (he will remind you of this every time you step inside). A great chef in the kitchen by the name of Mark whose dishes are prepared with the right acidity and sublety, beautifully matched with something funky or fine but never fashionable. One of my favourite places in the city.

One of the best wine lists in Sydney and an ever-changing, extensive list of wines by the glass to taste your way through. Staff are extremely knowledgable about the wines on offer. Without doubt, if you are a wine fan, then you must try this place. Nice for a quick glass on the way home from work, but better to while away some time, while trying a couple of the options with a good friend. Generally service is good, although sometimes can feel a bit 'superior'. Much better with the new fit out and smaller tables at the front which is much cosier if on a date or wanting to have a quiet catch up with an old friend. I've never tried the food but have heard good reports.

Really nice food, good wine including the happy hour special (4-6pm) but service was a bit hit and miss/hot and cold and the bright white lights in the back part are not as pleasant as the front section. Also skimped on replacing plates and cutlery between courses which tainted experience it a bit.

Do you like your wine? Compare the booze menu with the food menu at Fix St James and fall into wine heaven. A fancy establishment for some classy wine and some classy food. A nice place to have lunch but with the premium price tag. Fix St James is a corporate fancy restaurant during the week. I came here on a day on off with my bestie looking to gossip post-overseas trip with a side of shopping. Price: $30 to $35 per main and about $15 plus for a glass of booze

I have known Stuart (Top dog at Fix) through friends for years, but strangely had never visited his restaurant until recently. There's only so many places that you can have on your list I reckon; although in this case I think I'll be making an exception. Fix St James has a ridiculously good wine list, an owner that knows it inside and out and a chef that executes his side of the bargain perfectly. I had the beef tartare (yum) and then another piece of beef (ditto) and will be back to sample the test of the menu very soon. Apparently the eel souffle is delicious.

Fix St James has unpretentious yet considerate service and atmosphere with simple, but great food and wine. Wine choices are unusual - on one occasion I sampled a Blue Poles Teroldego, probably the best (and only) Australian Teroldego. The 'Fix Me Up' menu is highly recommended. A selection of dishes, including the famous tagliata (steak salad) are brought to the table for all to share family style. Excellent value given the quality of food and wine.

It was a little quiet for a Saturday night. Not even half the place was filled. Is it the location or perhaps the food isn't as exciting? We ordered a few entrees and a couple of mains to share. The bone marrow was super rich and not enough sharpness to counter the fattiness. And perhaps the bread should not be fried with duck fat. Oil on oil was not the best combination. The Smoked Eel & Pyengana Soufflé was probably the best of the night. Very light and lovely the hint of smokey eel. We also all agreed that the chips for the beer tartare was too over powering. Overall, the food is nice but maybe I expected too much.
