Comments of Hollywood Hotel
A. K.
Best pub is Sydney by a long shot. It retains its charm like no other pub in Sydney - and not a VIP Room in sight. Great music and events - great management.
J. B.
Great little pub! Super friendly staff, and a great vibe to the place.
F. M.
I had so much fun at the Hollywood on the weekend. The music was fun, the people were fun and the new owners have not changed much if anything.
P. T.
Fantastic atmosphere, especially as the Foo Fighters Hotel. Food a bit lacking.
Always a good selection of beers on tap
J. B.
The gem of Surry Hills! The Hollywood has a great old school vibe about it with fabulous friendly staff to boot! A great place to relax and take a break from the world during the week, and always a bustling pocket in Surry Hills on Friday and Saturday nights.
M. D.
One of the few iconic places left in Sydney with great tunes and an interesting history. Let's hope once its sold that the new owners feel the same way.
S. G.
Great oldschool pub with a nice vibe and great service.
P. S.
Still great, same charm and friendly staff. just like the old days.
P. S.
Went there later, after the Mardi Gras parade.
The venue is classic deco pub. Good staff kept up with the pace of a thirsty crowd. The vibe was pumping, a diverse range of people all having a good time dancing to a brilliantly mixed selection of tunes. I'm sure it would be a great spot anytime.
J. M.
Now here is a great pub from the good old days. No air con though so expect to get hot when there are crowds of people there. At least u go outside onto the footpath to get cool, but unfortunately no alcohol allowed. Security there every Friday and Saturday nights. Love the whole atmosphere of this pub and the staff are very friendly. About a 10 minute walked from Central Station.
M. S.
Four stars for character. Don't expect a flashy hipster bar. Think old school pub with an artistic edge. Cool.
P. g.
The old girl is as she always will be, the same of Sydney.
F. M.
I love this pub. It's shabby and a bit thrown together but that is absolutely what's wonderful about it. The staff are fast and friendly, the prices great and the mix of people in attendance means you'll always have interesting conversations. The Hollywood is a Sydney institution for a reason. Give it a go on a Friday after work for casual drinks with a group of friends or workmates. Everytime i start the evening here it ends up amazing.
M. C.
$10 for a beer is a bit overpriced.
J. D.
The grand old dame of Sydney pubs. Properly grotty but that's the charm, she's hanging onto it while everywhere else loses it with renovations.
W. B.
A nice place to go for a drink. They have plenty of seating areas, with quite comfortable seats. Drinks prices are fair, and staff are friendly, with good advice on drinks. The place had a consistent aroma of cigarettes, which was fairly disconcerting. Also, it took a good couple of minutes to find the bartender...
S. R.
This one of my favourite pubs in Sydney. So much history but just a great place to go for a drink. Usually busy after work crowd especially Friday’s. great music and raced atmosphere. Good range of beer, cider and spirits. Cocktails too. Back area good for bigger groups. Also does bar snacks. Lots of great restaurants near by so good place to meet for pre-dinner drink.
D. W.
One of my favourite pubs in Sydney. Love the art deco stylings. Staff are super friendly. And great supporters of Sydney's music scene!
B.
Super friendly staff <3
K. S.
Smelly, filthy, bad cool toilets, I LOVE this place.
Don't come here if you are a Mr or Mrs perfect looking to keep your shoes shiny, come here if you want a good old fashioned pub with its history on its walls (and in its smelly but suitably cheesy 80's carpet!).
I hope this place doesn't change anytime soon.
M. D.
Harder to come by places open late in Sydney.
Standouts were friendly staff with no attitude! Reasonable prices and laid back atmosphere from both staff and other patrons.
Note: This place is for simple mixers and beer.
A. G.
Cosy, chilled atmosphere and the the staff are great. I dropped my wallet here on a night out and gave them a call the next morning and had been called back within a couple of hours confirming they had found it. Absolute legends.
L. R.
Good low key venue with decent prices and cheese toasties behind the bar!
K. J.
Nice and cosy pub with the ability to make human communication possible. I will go again.
B. W.
Old school pub, good music. Downside was that they DON'T take cash.
E.
Awesome staff that will actually take care of you. Honestly one the best slightly hidden pubs in sydney, and the Covid signage is easy to understand
M. D.
Good range of beers on tap, something to eat all night long. Smoking area, great location and great staff. See a movie at the golden age and kick on here!
S. W.
Smaller than it looks from the outside... the peanuts were good
P. B.
Best local pub in Surry Hills. Mark is fabulous and looks after us so well everytime!
J. C.
Food is surprisingly authentic for Copenhagen, but the restaurant is on the expensive side for what it it.. Case in point, a Lassi is 55 DKK and dishes are in the 160-200 DKK range incl rice but with no bread included.
B. L.
Great pub! Great quiz on Wednesdays! Lovely bar staff and good, cheap drinks!
Had a great time- best pub in Sydney!
N. J.
Love coming to this place. It's simply the best bar in the universe.
L. A.
Hollywood hotel, the pub in sydney. If you are looking for a cosy place, where you can grab drinks, talk to people and relax, you just found the right place. The venue is beautiful, all the decoration is the same as it was 100 years ago, when it was first opened. A lot of options for your dribks, and if you ever feel hungry, they serve tosties, whixh taste too good to be true. If you need a place to chill, grab a drink and relax, you just dound the place oh yeah
B. W.
A small historic pub located in Surry Hills. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. On-street parking. Not far from public transport.
R. P.
Old school. Please never renovate its a time machine back to a bygone era. '80 music is quite modern for this joint!
J. B.
Sydney classic. If you have never had a cheeky G&T in the historic, timbered surrounds of the cosy Hollywood you are missing out. And...you never know who you'll run into.
Bonus: check out the vintage pokies. They'll take you back a few decades.
C. W.
still a great pub
P. S.
Genuine part of the Surry Hills furniture. This place is unpretentious and luckily hasn't succumbed to the dangerous renovation temptations that often ruin good old boozers. Long may it continue the same.
L. H.
The Holly is one of last untouched, charming locals. Don't expect taxidermied deer heads, chandeliers, shiny floorboards or mismatched picture frames as is the current Sydney decor dujour. This place is the real deal. It has old world and character in spades and we want to keep it that way. Please.
Oh and they have an awesome $25 cheese platter + wine deal on Monday nights. Nuts.
N. H.
Always a favourite. Low key, with a a great atmosphere and any always entertaining mix of staff and customers. A truly Sydney classic.
L. J.
An iconic pub that will make you feel like you've stepped back in time. Love this place and so proud to call it my local.
T. Y.
Best hotel in Sydney. I like to enjoy a book and some mulled wine here, and I always meet very interesting people too.
M. H.
The owner and staff make this place. Awesome transformation for the Foo Fighters visit. Had a good couple of nights experiencing that.
J. C.
Most interesting bar I have been to in yonks. Great music. Huge variety in the crowd.
J. R.
Really cute local hotel with a great atmosphere. It's like stepping back in time, the decor is fantastic and the staff are very friendly.
J. B.
Very basic but always fun. No food served except for crisps in a basket and no craft beer last time I checked but the atmosphere makes up for that.
M. B.
Great place for a drink or two, before or after dinner.
Great vibe, nice spot for a catchup with old mates.
C. W.
Great local pub, no pretensions, nothing fancy, just a classic Aussie pub with a modern attitude. Go with friends and hang out.
L. S. (.
Stopped for a couple wines with coworkers, cute little spot.
J. G.
A beautiful little older style Sydney pub, with very very very friendly staff and fresh beer, a great selection of hipster beers and fresh tap beers.
L. R.
Cozy bar. Small and chill. One leg outside and one leg in. Good beer range
P. A.
Yea great old school pub...ATM playing non stop 70s disco...actually really enjoyable experience here !
J. S.
Are you kidding me?
If you haven't been here get yourself over for a cheeky couple and a toastie.
Preferably late, when everywhere else is shut or queuing to get in.
B. P.
A swell laid back feel ~ great for a catch up with some mates ~ with well priced bottles of wine, compared to other places
D. M.

Dive with cool music and amusingly cantankerous owner. Great place to be, sadly hurt by the lock out laws.
