Loving this speakeasy bar! The style/deco and atmosphere takes you to a different world. The highlight is how friendly and joyful the lady who served us was! Truly refreshing. Rare to have incredible staff like this. OH and delicious cocktails! 🔥🍹

Great little hidey-hole on Clarence St - wouldn't have found it without Google Maps! The downstairs bar has a great atmosphere but on a cracker Sydney afternoon the rooftop bar is where you want to be. The cocktail list has some interesting entries and I didn't have one I didn't like.

Such an amazing speakeasy bar! We went on a Friday night for drinks.The ambience is really nice and the staff were extremely friendly. The cocktails were absolutely amazing. We also ordered the meat board which was really nice too. However we also ordered another food dish which never came so we had to ask for a refund because we were about to leave (hence the 4/5 star rating). But we would come back again.

AMAZING Bar/Speak easy. We started with the night with the "takes 2 to mango" cocktail & got the advice of the bartenders and took their recommendation for everything thereafter, incredibly each was was as good as the last, if not better! Specifically we have to mention Kyle! Guy nailed the drink suggestions and provided us with great conversation & even his recommendations of other places to visit while here in SYD, absoulte legend of a guy. And the decoration, incredible. Feels like your walking to a Harry potter novel crosses with the coolest library, that serves super good drinks that is 🍸🧉

Old Mate's Place always delivers. Great either inside or on the rooftop, friendly and welcoming staff, and amazingly delicious cocktails. Always a fun place to be. They have signature cocktails and also new cocktails that often change. Don't know exactly how often, but often enough. The food is amazing to. They have Philly steak sandwiches in many varieties and a charcuterie board that is indescribable. Fantastic always!!

Asked the bartender if he could make me a mocktail and he created one off of the menu based on my own preferences. It was genuinely one of the best drinks I have ever had and it only cost me 10 bucks. The place has good vibes but keep in mind that the outdoor seating area is super small!

A warm welcoming nook slinging some of the best cocktails Sydney has. Drinking in the main bar is like being a member of an exclusive club replete with rich mahogany walls and stuffy old books . Step up to the roof top bar and you've discovered a tropical oasis. It's like your own private tiki bar. Remember though, this is our secret.

Old Mates Place is a hidden bar at the top of a plain building. There is a lift to the top but do expect to have a standing wait on the stairs before you get in. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. Giving suggestions on your drinks and making sure you are comfortable. Large range of cocktails with a small selection of snacks such as cheese-steak subs. Lovely secluded rooftop seating, it’s very compact inside so large groups might be in for a wait.

A hidden gem. I like the ambient and the rooftop is a small but very cool area. The cocktails are good but a large number of them are relatively mild and sweet. Hopefully they can roll out some more classic and punchy cocktails recipes.

A few issues that could easily be overlooked if it wasn’t for the service. The place has character and when we saw they used fresh juice for cocktails, we ordered a few margaritas which were fantastic. Having passed that test we thought we’d try mojitos which can be deceptively difficult. They arrived, minus the sugar. I called over the waiter and his response was interesting…. Without engaging with me, he swept away my glass , strode off to the bar and with a great flourish flung the drink into the sink. Very dramatic. He had left my husband’s mojito on the table, but two new drinks arrived. He didn’t engage with us, or apologise, just set down the drinks and walked away. They were poisonously sweet - we were being taught a lesson! Wasted, my husband has a sweet tooth and polished them off. The food was as expected, pretty basic, it’s a small bar. We were the only people who ordered food in the hour that we were there. My husband got the wrong sandwich and mine didn’t arrive at the same time. But that didn’t bother us. Not everyone is born to be front of house!

WOW what a spot. You may pass this by as you enter through a small doorway that leads you to an old staircase that will remind you of the marbel stairs in your old school or hospital ( there is a lift available , but go on work up a thrist ). You then enter a room that would not be lost in an olde world movie. Leather seats with book shelves on every wall. Then take a walk up to the rooftop bar. Great service here and the staff are very friendly, go on get up there and try it yourself.

A fantastic new bar in the heart of the cbd. Offering a cozy & wonderfully decorated interior, lit by shuttle candlelight throughout. Follow the stairs and it leads you to a beautiful rooftop seating area. There is a small bar upstairs and you can order food to be Brough up to your table. The drinks are excellent & the service is absolutely on point. Staff are polite, attentive but respect your privacy and space. Overall definitely a great experience, have been coming back regularly since finding out about this great bar.

Knowledgeable bartenders can whip up pretty much anything and are pretty friendly to boot. It has a rooftop! Something which should not be an anomaly in this city, with all of our endless days of sunshine, but this is a good one. Small and intimate but open air and inviting 🌞🌝 The food menu is limited but the cheese steaks are quite delicious. This place! Love it. Been once, and I already love it. Vibe is chill and sophisticated. Décor is classy with the books and plants and chandelier. Old Mates Place has been one of the most interesting cocktail venues that I have been to. When you enter to the building of this place, it looks like you are in an old building which is forgotten to be renovated. If you walk a couple of levels you would see a bodyguard waiting in front of a door while there is a bit queue next to him. That means you found the place :) When it comes to cocktails, Old Mates Place have a good variety of mixtures which are served in exotic glasses. The alcohol percentage of each drink is considerable enough to satisfy. From the point of interior design, Old Mates Place is one step ahead due to its unique and romantic atmosphere. Service is above the average in terms of speed but outstanding due to their kindness. They pour water into your glass as you could become thirsty which is thoughtful enough. Overall the place is one of my favourite in the city. Hope you guys enjoy :)

It's located on the fourth floor, so if you need to burn some alcohol (or calories) skip the elevator.

We are arrived at 18.30 pm a friday and we waited for a few minutes (15 min) to enter in the bar. The bar is wonderfull, a magnificient decoration, a good music, a little roof top but really warm. The cocktail menu is original, it takes 20 dollars for one cocktail and between 11 and 20 dollars for a glass of wine. The bartenders was very professional, really nice and really attentive (glass of water, towel under the glasses...). I highly recommend !

The food took a while to get out at first but it was worth the wait. It was delicious I had to order another for to go and that came out faster. It's also a bit pricey so bear that in mind. This was my first time having a cocktail and they helped find one I liked, I got a second serving of it. The customer service is very nice. They are all chilled and friendly, its almost like you are friends with them. If you are going to go there with friends 4 to 6 people should be the max cause it's a bit small.

One of the best in Sydney. Yes it's small, yes it's busy but it's worth it. Looks like it's been there forever which is an achievement in itself. Also has one of the few open rooftops in the area which is worth the stair climb. The best hidden gem in the Sydney CBD, when you walk in the door you are always welcomed with a smile and a hello every time, quickly offered a cocktail list to settle you into the plush booths or bar seats. Sundays are best spent on the rooftop where you can duck around the side to have a cigarette and a beer then pop back around to the full bar for a cocktail of your choice and some juicy banter from the friendly staff and in times of trouble for the country they put on a great BBQ to raise funds and support the fire fighters and make a pup turn into a sausage dog with all the snags being fed to her.

WOW! One of the most unforgettable nights for us... ever! We were told about Old Mate's Place and rocked up not knowing what we were getting into (especially with no signage). From the moment we saw the security guard (who was super professional and nice) to the moment we stepped through the door to wonderland, and we were greeted with the living legend (and best bartender ever) Andy. What a night! Andy went above and beyond to make this night memorable. Incredible customer service (making an unreal passionfruit martini for us two ladies) to dancing along at the end of the night when there was only a few of us left at bar close. This was a place we will never forget... 50% for the reason of this awesome bar with the coolest vibe ever and 50% for Andy being a legend of a human being and the most brilliant bartender. We have recommended this place to soooo many people already!

Visited Old Mates Place for the 2nd time now and had to wait for 45 minutes on a Saturday night. We ordered a Hidden Pina Colada (recommended) and a bunch of other drinks. None of them disappointed. Their chicken philly sandwich and lotus chips is to die for. Get here if you’re looking for a late night get away but be prepared to wait.

The rooftop has its own bar so you don’t need to constantly come downstairs except to use the loo. Plenty of options for cocktails. The food is a limited but what’s in there tastes delicious. Hidden away behind an unmarked door and up the staircase (or in our case up the elevator) is this hidden bar in the city which has a very Melbournian feel to it. The inside has a sleek, cosy feeling with the dark wooden interior. If you go up an extra flight of stairs you will find a rooftop bar which is a rarity in Sydney. The rooftop is a little hidden gem, but when busy on a Friday night, it’s a bit too crowded and there isn’t much standing room. I wouldn’t mind visiting again on a less busy night for a drink or two.
