Comments of Rag & Famish Hotel
E. L.
I brought a very young (but big breed) puppy along, who was learning how to be at the pub for the first time. He was very nervous and a bit barky at times, but the staff were so understanding and patient with him.
Thank you so much for your tolerance and being a true dog friendly pub!
B. C.
Dined at the Restruarnt on the balcony - beautiful on a warm summer evening.
Brilliant service, rib eye beautifully cooked, chilli jam spot on, nice red wine by the glass
The entrees were slightly underwhelming.
Overall great evening and fair value for an upmarket pub
Will be back
J. D.
One of my favourite pubs. Great atmosphere & good old school pub.
S. S.
The place was lively and I enjoyed having a big enough table for me and my sisters to chill and have our dinner after a long day. Food arrived quite speedily.
R.
Great staff. One of the best pub Salmon meals I've had in long time. Served with a nice fresh salad with Ruby grapefruit, roasted chickpeas and guacomale. All I asked for was a slice of lemon to drizzle over the perfectly cooked salmon. I'll be back!
R. H.
Sooo many crisp fresh fresh beers, i almost thought i died and went to heaven.
The food is always on point, the staff are epic.
The vibe is so good, especially when the live gigs are on.
10/10 would smash, would also smash its mum if it had one.
K. E.
A great pub experience in North Sydney. Good sized venue did across a downstairs bistro with an outdoor beer garden and a restaurant above. Friendly staff provide delightful service. A mix of local craft beers and big brand classics available on tap. A solid menu with specials changing across the nights of the week.
J. S.
If I could sum this place up in one word it would be "Meh..."
Nothing special, but not a bad place for a drink. Beware of some of the derros hanging round outside, but generally a friendly atmosphere.
S. C.
Just a lovely lunch, with great staff and service - It was an ideal spot for a business meeting. and a lovely lunch..will definitely be bringing our business partners there again - Thank you!
J. B.
If you're in the North Sydney area this is the OG Aussie pub with amazing house pies and beers.. heaps better than that Crows Nest Hotel up the road hey...
E. P.
Dog friendly, great pies and Sunday roast. Large selection of craft beers. Perfect!
S. M.
I’ve been going to the Rag for over 10 years and it’s a north Sydney staple. Wonderful food, cosy atmosphere and great dining experience upstairs. With the opening of the new train stations it will open become busier. Definitely give their pies a go!
D. Y.
Time to raise the ratings after seeing so many bad reviews.
Environment
This place has great vibes with an awesome atmosphere and outdoor scenery for social events and mingling. They have heater's placed in multiple spots when it gets cold.
Food
Pies taste great. Sometimes can get a bit dry but beautiful presentation with crust overflowing which gives it a tasteful appeal. Today I had the chicken schnitzel and it was absolutely delicious in my opinion. Shaped in a love heart, not sure if intentional but perfect portion of chips (not overwhelming) and salad. Chicken was perfectly cooked and tasteful with the side of gravy. Price wise, it's not cheap but not overly expensive either. I do agree burgers are a bit over priced but they haven't let me down with quality yet.
Good job I'll be coming back
A. C.
Ordered a wagyu burger, but the patty was noticeably burnt. Also spotted a tiny insect crawl out of the rocket leaves. Two of the three people I was with didn't really have issues with their orders, but I certainly wasn't impressed with mine.
D. V.
Busy (popular) pub, great dining upstairs with a subdued & welcoming feel.
My rib eye was spot on, mates had the ossobuco and the duck, they were please and full.
G. A.
Great food, great atmosphere and a good selection of beer and wine.
W. T.
A nice small bar. The food prices are a little high, but I've had their steak and a few other small bites and they taste quite decent.
M. W.
Do not know why I never tried this place but damn son, best pie I've ever had. Wish I had come here earlier. The rag and famish have been well known for their great pies and there is definitely a reason for the pies are generous in their size and are served with peas and mash, fries or salad. Make sure to come early because it can get very busy and the pies will sell out. Theres also plenty of pub classics for a good price for those not so into the pie scene.
T.
Love, love, love this place. Our hotels bar closes early and this around the way bar was perfect. I had their chicken and leek pie soooo yummy. I've been here 3 times on my 2 week trip and it has been great. Truth I hate that I have to get my own food and drink but outside of that, it's a good place.
e. r.
Great place to hang out and bring overseas visitors or customers. Food is great and reasonably priced. Good selection of beers and wine too.
T. L.
Fantastic pub right in the heart of North Sydney. Probably the best Guinness in the whole of Sydney, the pies are incredible as well. Good vibes, especially on a Friday/ weekend. Dog friendly.
C. B.
Wonderful atmosphere staff where helpful and courteous. Dinner was fantastic complex favour from the Moroccan lamb.
O. O.
Pies are superb.
Pork ribs are pretty average.
Good selection of tap beers.
R. C.
Good selection of beers here, and pub food is worth a visit.
J. G.
Lovely basic pub, fairly good taplist.
A. K.
Cool vibes!
Pies are overrated.
Beers are great and plenty!
Locations is nice!
Seating is plenty!
Service is fast.
Staff is a bit edgy.
D. V.
Chicken burger was raw in the middle the one time I tried it. Got it replaced by a microwaved pie which was disappointing. Chalked it up to the kitchen having an off day.
Had been here a few times before - food was consistently good (including the pie) at other times. Great selection of beer too.
D. S. (. J.
Quick lunch pie with mash veggies and gravy. Top notch. Will come back when I have more time
N. B.
Best most authentic pub in North Sydney. Great food and atmosphere
G. L.
Food is good, attached are Brookvale Union Vodka & Peach iced tea and Moroccan Lamb Backstrap
J. L.
Great place near the north sydney cbd. Fabulous pies and the lunch menu is not bad as well
D. T.
Great Irish pub, good selection of wines, drinks and beers, it also has a really good food. Nice environment, generally not too busy and excellent location
L. I.
Nice pub - has some good food and friendly staff. Perfect joint for after work drinks in the area. It can get quite loud and crowded though so you'll want to think ahead as spots get snapped up quick.
J. B.
Great selection of draft beer. Decent food. Comfortable. Good service. A little pricey.
L. A.
Traditional pub, great selection of tap beers, good variety on the food menu, enough options for non meat eaters. Sunday roast wasn't what we were expecting (ie roast pots, yorkie, gravy etc) but nice nevertheless.
Would eat / return there again 😃
D. W.
Upstairs restaurant ambiance good, service great and food excellent
I will return !!
A. P.
Wide variety of craft beers, some I had never seen on tap. Seafood pie was fantastic. Besides they top up your Service NSW $25 dine in voucher with additional $25!
R. P.
Went for trivia, was okay but hard to hear at times. Finishes at 9:30 which is perfect. Hardly any GF options on the menu - I understand that’s not an issue for lots of people but would be nice even if the gravy was GF (I was told it wasn’t). Nice old style pub with a nice atmosphere, nice wine and extensive menu for non-glutards.
M. M.
Average pub food smelled of cigarettes
Good covid checking..
D.
Always really interesting beers to be found and a good atmosphere
A. S.
Nice place for quick beer...too many options for brewed beers..
A. K.
The Rag & Famish is an institution In North Sydney. A great pub and a favourite watering hole. The real surprise is the restaurant upstairs. First class menu and service. Highly recommended
I. D.
Classic pub grub and beers. You know what you're getting and you're glad to have it. Pies are home made and once topped with mushy peas quite the Aussie art form. A great local.
E. M.
Great beer selection, rustic decor. Decent food. Good spot in North Sydney
J. W.
A great local. Always enjoy the upstairs restaurant. Food is a high standard, friendly staff and quality wine by the glass. Balcony dining is a bonus.
M.
First time, big fan! Great beer garden and one of the few spaces you can have a beer and a smoke in comfort with sports playing in the background. Good beer and a steak. #winning
M. O.
Great atmosphere, excellent dining room and service.
I. M.
Great food, great atmosphere and good beers.
S. K.
Good place at North Sydney for a drink. Haven't tried the food yet. If you are thinking of catching up for a conversation over a beer, then its probably too noisy for that.
J. G.
Awesome selection of craft beers on tap and in the fridge.
K. M.
A very lively place. The ambience is amazing, food is yum.
S. T. A.
Ambiance, Food, Proximity, 3 key reasons to eat at the Rag & Danish. The first - Ambiance - is what brings you in. Old World pub style and a back garden make this a winner. Food, because you need nibbles when you're drinking with friends. And Proximity - near work and a taxi rank for quick in and outs.
Y. O.
Good place! Stuff are always friendly and nice. Good beer selection.
k. g.
Half decent schnitty and one of the only pubs around still putting a great Guinness. Ran out of rose by the glass though and wouldn't open a bottle that was clearly sitting in the fridge to keep a customer happy. Seemed pretty small minded to me.
W. B.
Ordered the lamb shoulder. Was ok for its price. Presentation good. Staff are highly attentive as well.
B. E.
What a sensational old skool boozer with awesome beers and ales. And they serve pints in huge glasses with handles. Great location near North Sydney train station so you don't have to drive.
J. J.
Good, honest, wholesome pub food in a convenient location.
Service is great and good always of a good quality.
Ideal for business or pleasure.
Y. A. N.
Went for trivia, could hardly understand the host, it was pretty frustrating. On top of that, the bangers and mash was terrible. Cold and mystery meat tasting sausages... The parmi was ok last time so maybe it was that specific menu.
P. G.
The best place to have a Guiness pie. Absolutely delicious. Blend it with some mash as well. Nice place to hang out for some beers and drinks. Though it's busy all the time you can still find a spot to crash in. Staff is very courteous and helpful.
A. P.
Good local pub popular with North Sydney business workers. Standard pub fare to eat downstairs, schnitzel and burgers etc., upstairs restaurant very good with different menu. Good service, small beer garden, has been a great "go to" lunch and beers after work for many years.
V. M.
We liked this old style pub. It has character and atmosphere. Liked the different seating areas. There was a band somewhere, didn't see them but they sounded good. We didn't eat so cannot comment on that. Would definitely go back.
J. L.
Had lunch in the restaurant. The new winter menu is great. The food was amazing and the service is always friendly and helpful.
R. M.
Really nicely presented pub, good vibes and music playing, had the local NRL and ARL playing if that's your thing (big screen too though it was washed out and need aspect ratio correction). The outdoor heaters kept us nice and toasty warm. Food was well enjoyed by all and good service by staff. They use the me&U app for ordering which is pretty easy and intuitive. Login system in entry ensures they're following covid protocols.
Worth keeping an eye on the special deals they have during the week. We'll be back for sure.
G. L.
Simple pub done very well.
I literally popped in for a quick lunch. The food was great, everyone else was happy with theirs.
The service was quick despite the high level of business (being lunchtime).
Its obviously a favourite of the office folk working in the area, and given the area, the prices were not bad at all.
Repeat visits will certainly happen.
M. K.
Ate in the upstairs restaurant because there were tables or eating surfaces available in the main pub area.
Service was good and the waitress was friendly. There was a mistake on our order which I saw her correct without me having to say anything when the food landed on our tables.
I think its a bit expensive for both being a pub and what you get. $32 for a parmigiana at a pub is simply outrageous. You would want something pretty special for that price.
Well it was above average but nothing earth shattering, the re was about 15 chips served alongside on a tiny plate. Very disappointing. Chicken parmigiana should be served on a bed of chips.
Overall it was okay but it might be worth trying a counter meal downstairs. Nothing compelling enough for me to return though.
S.
Not many vegetarian/vegan options. Had a margarita pizza and chips. Simple but was done really well. Pizzas were stone baked and delicious. Live music on a Saturday night when we went which was really nice and lots of TVs to watch sports.
B. D.
Great food. Regular crowd. Good nighttime entertainment. Not a club, so uni students/young people may want to keep that in mind. Good for sociable drinks.
I personally enjoy the karaoke!
V. S.
Excellent ambience and good selection of tap beer. The food is pretty decent and the portion size is huge.
A. P.
Whilst the food was good the fact that 8-9 people waiting to be served and for a while only one member of staff was on drinks (two on food and one seemed to be wandering around not doing too much) marred the evening slightly
D. A.
No better place to relax on a Friday night at a cheery fulsome pub with live music in North Sydney than here. Excellent vibe, respectable selection of craft beers, option of a quiet upstairs restaurant if you wished to steal yourself away. But love the action downstairs.
B. J.
A very social place to hang out, with a lively crowd and quite a few spaces to sit at. Their potato cottage pie was of excellent quality, the meat within had a strong resemblance to lasagna, and being served with a nice helping of mash and peas helped bring it home. The only gripe was that the food there seems massively overpriced, which is a little disappointing. The service there was generally alright, pretty regular interactions throughout.
D. B.
Celebrated my birthday here earlier in the year without a booking, we had the best time for any venue on this side of the bridge. The atmosphere was great, the food was delish and the staff were exceptional. Highly recommend this establishment to anyone. It's great 7 days a week... Also this place is run by a cat (you'll see what I mean when you visit)
L.
Nice local old-style (think timber and leather) pub. They have typical pub food downstairs (prices range: $12-20) and some improved quality dishes in the restaurant upstairs. About 10 minute walk from the North Sydney train station or minutes to the buses. They have some great live musicians playing on some nights too.
T.
Lovely old style pub with both indoor and outdoor seating areas. Great selection of beer also stays open until midnight. Highly recommend
C.
Mains taste OK and are well portioned but the daily special entrees are tiny and not worth the price. Just order the mains. Good selection of beer.
C. a. M.
Had a fantastic company dinner at Rag & Famish. Though the steak was quite expensive, wish I ordered the lamb shank instead (similar prices but looked so much better). I think I’ll stick to their AMAZING pies (downstairs) rather than their restaurant (upstairs).
J. S.
If you like an easy place to talk to people, not the place to go. Rag and Famish is pretty small - so it gets packed quick. This makes out for essentially a yelling match to try and talk to people around you. Drinks are pretty well priced though.
A. S.
It feels old, but it now caters mostly to the white collared society. Not that it's a bad thing. Staff aren't interested in being there and it feels that you are interupting they're day and you are an inconvenience. I don't expect a song and dance when I roll up to the bar, but when I'm paying nearly $10 for a beer, a smile and a bit of personality would be nice.
R. S.
Nice bar and atmosphere, reasonably priced food. Comfortable and pleasant setting to sit in. Agree with other recent reviewers that bar staff are unfriendly, at least today at lunch anyway. Food below average, my guess is the beef burger patty is cooked from frozen, and if it isn't, it's underwhelming in both taste and texture.
N. V.
Nice pub food at a good price...
T. T.
A very welcoming bar - if there is a bar that you are looking to hit with your mates to have a good round of beer and fun time, this is the place in North Sydney to go!
A. B.
Great pub with a good beer selection, reasonably priced, and with some nice food as well. I have been to Rag & Famish with big groups and it was always easy to accommodate all of us.
Staff is friendly and helpful, service is good, furniture is comfortable. I can recommend this place!
A. G.
Decent English styled pub, very busy Friday nights, deserted Sat/Sun (as all places are in N Syd). Good selection of beer on tap and live music on Friday nights.
Cheap steaks upstairs on a Thursday.
A dying breed, a proper boozer.
M. M.
Attended a function there tonight. While looking for my crowd I had a wonder around there. Different ambiences created for all the different people that come there from a typical pub style corners to white table cloth covered tables with linen napkins and stylish antique style furniture, all under one roof. Pleasant service, nice finger for and a variety of beers, it certainly offers more than you'd expect.
B. F.
Good pub food and drinks, friendly staff in a pleasant old world atmosphere. Not exactly for families but our child enjoyed it. Thank you
P. L.
Great meeting place in this iconic pub . They serve excellent pub food. I recomend their home made pies. It attracts the office crowd and gets very busy at lunch time and after 5pm.
A. C.
Nice pub with a good selection of beers (with rotating seasonal craft beers). Cool outdoor seating area (which unfortunately gets very crowded on Friday nights and weekends), The layout makes it hard to get around when it gets busy.
Friendly staff and quick service
J. P.
Great pub for knock off work drinks, night out with friends or just a catchup pint with a mare. Great staff, good choice of beers, pies to die for and a smoking area for those wanting to enjoy a smoke.
R. M.
Rag & Famish is a great after work pub in North Sydney. Food has always been brilliant here (the pies are a must try) but getting a touch expensive now at $16 a serve. The pub also has a great selection of beers, live musical performances on Thursdays and Fridays and weekend Karaoke sessions.. Overall a great place to grab a bite or meet with friends
A. W.
Great attempt at an English style pub. Great food, including a Sunday roast with a passable Yorkshire pudding.
Best bit is they allow dogs on lead inside.
B. G.
We were here, as were plenty others it seems, for a business meal. The bar down stairs was very busy (and that on a Wednesday night), dining is upstairs in a very pleasant atmosphere. The food was good, the service excellent.
I. T. C.
Great pub for North Sydney. Good on pretty much every day except for Friday - it's completely jam packed. Loads of bar staff though so you don't usually wait long for a drink.
J. N.
It was great time with friends , you can find few local beer here as well and staff are very friendly. Located close to North Sydney train station, 5 minutes walking time.
A. C.
Good pizzas & wine selection was pretty good. Sat in the beer garden, good atmosphere
S. L.
Great place to watch rugby, the owner is really accommodating and loves it himself. Great beer selection with rotating taps, and best of all, Guinness on tap! Best m pot pies you'll ever have too!
W. S.
Great selection of beers in north Sydney
J. L.
Good selection of beer on tap, plenty of seating in doors and out. The atmosphere on Saturday night was great the karaoke really had everybody in a good mood. Disapointing that when my friends setted out to take a phone call he was told that would have to go back in or he wouldn't be allowed in.
A. A.
The beef & Guinness pie is delicious! Recommend getting it with mash & gravy. Love the variety of craft beers that are available on tap. Is a great venue for afternoon drinks and even for watching sports on the weekend!
G. C.
There is a fairly nice dining areas upstairs that is more quiet & a few spot for drinks too. Thursday night special steak night is great!
B. B.
Been here on multiple occasions for drinks and office event and was never disappointed with the service. A good range of beers, normally priced, open till late (which is good), great location, nice old English ambiance with an outdoor seating.
M. N.
Just like a typical, local Aussie pub but has Balter on tap for us beer snobs.
Layout is great and caters for old customers as well as random new ones who come through the door.
E. B.
I've been a visitor of Rag since 2003 and have never regretted my time here. Good Guinness and a very ok food selection for a pub. Awesome atmosphere and a friendly crowd. Has both inside and outside areas including place for smokers (thats probably sadly but have to appreciate that some people are still indulging in this habbit). Hopefully this place remains like it has been for all these years.
J. T.
No fuss old style pub in Northern Sydney business distinct. Good pub grub. Best place for either a cheeky lunchtime tipple or kickoff point for Friday drinks.
D. V.
A superb local pub in North Sydney. A go-to place for local craft beers. Good, inexpensive and generous food portions. It gets really busy at lunch time and Friday arvos.
G.
Awesome pub, food is good but can be a let down sometimes, all in all its a great place to meet and have a drink. Steak nights on Thursday night are always good - staff in the restaurant are very helpful & friendly!
S. J.
It's a pub, it sells beer, but generally places that charge that much don't smell like that.
S. B.
The upstairs restaurant has a pretty expensive menu for what it is: eg Slow cooked lamb shoulder at $40! The food is okay but overpriced. I wouldn't go there again. Best to stick with the pub food downstairs, even if it is crowded and noisy.
K. K.
Nice little pub with a great atmosphere. This is about one of the only places you can have a sit down meal in North Sydney with all the construction at the moment. They had some good pies and nice foods.
L. B.
Nice cozy place in North Sydney. They have a few good craft beers, and their pies are delicious. If you prefer a quiet place so you can have a proper chat with your mates, consider the 2nd floor. And please treat their cat well. He loves a good cuddle. ;)
K. C.
Good pub with a wide range of excellent craft tap beers and good food. The restaurant above the bar exceeds expectations also. Nice snug area upstairs by the restaurant with sofas.
L. J.
Have been here a couple of times. Nice place for a casual beer with friends. Really good range of beers on tap. You're definitely still able to have a conversation with your friends here which is really nice.
A. B. K.
This was the first Pub I visited during my Australian holidays. I loved the atmosphere. Good beer, decent food.
Will visit again soon! :)
B. A.
Great old style Pub! Top range of beers, friendly staff. Perfect for after work drinks or to meet friends!
S. “. H. C.
I love the craft beer options on tap here. They always have a tasty IPA on tap and there's a large venue space upstairs
J. M.
Great selection of local and craft beers, on a constant rotation. They have awesome pies and food on offer also. Tuesday night they have trivia which is always a bit of fun
J. C.
Smallish bar with a good sized outdoor area. The food was nice and the bar staff were friendly too. Nothing really to complain about. We would go back if we were in the area again.
J. L.
Not the best managed pub this side of town. Its quite ok for afterwork hangout.
Drinks and food offerings above standard but has room for improvement. Floor coverings are so sticky with beverages spilt needs more attention.
Staff are quite attentative.
D. G.
The restaurant upstairs is surprisingly fancy given the not-at-all fancy pub below. The food was great; the staff forgot two drink orders, but they were busy I guess. Fairly pricey at $30+ for mains.
I will go there again.
D. O.
Standard pub grub at ok prices. Chips were good, nachos were ok but most effort had gone into arranging it artistically - to the point that the jalapenos were all in a pile hidden behind some chips. And it needed the jalapenos as the meat wasn't incredibly flavoursome. Pub is nice and unpretentious despite being full of office-types and service was good.
P. L.
The moment I got here, I was quite skeptical. My cousin brought me here and said his friend has booked a spot for our dinner. Don't be fooled like me.
Despite it looks like a bar from outside, The dinner area on 2nd floor is amazing. The food is equally or more amazing. While the other tried the famous Beef Cheek, I tried the Eye FIllet and it was amazing. One of the wait staff recommended Schwarz Co Shiraz, and it complements the steak very well. Luckily I visit Sydney once every month or two. Definitely will return. Great staff, Great atmosphere, and The best pub food I've ever had.
A. H.
Unclear smoking zones, low amount of space and extremely loud (live?) music make this not so great for a workplace drinks. Good drinks and table service at least.
T. H.
Classic old style pub with a basic menu but of good value such a bangers and mash. It can be a bit noisy and outside tables are shared with smokers which is a bit of a drag.
F. V.
For a first time, it was interesting. Nice karaoke night. Great choice of tap beers ! Would definitely come back to taste the ambiance in a “more classic” evening.
D. B.
I used to love going to the Rag & Famish for post-work drinks, or when I needed a decent lunch out of the office. Beer is good, food is great, and it's nice to have a little bit of old-fashioned pub in a business district. Much nicer than its glass-and-concrete peers. There's a reason the R&F is always busy!
C. W.
Live music and atmosphere good downstairs, restaurant food was the best I had in North Sydney especially the 2/1 steak. Well done and medium/rare cooked to perfection, complement s to the chef
B. N.
Wish I could like this place more. Sadly, the service has always been indifferent and food takes absolutely forever to come out. But the opening hours are extensive, and the beer is always cold. Average all around.
A. T.
Average place. Food is average. Prices average. And the decour is... guess. The one standout was friendly easy going staff. I'd probably not go back but if someone wanted to go there id not be fussed.
B. N.
Pies fantastic, good selection of craft beer. However, if visiting with the family, keep in mind there are limited areas to sit and you may get stuck in the courtyard next to the smoking section.
R. M.
Best pies in Sydney. If you find better please let me know.
K. G.
I still think the Rag is a great pub. Went there today after a 25 year absence and it was like being at home. Not cheap though, as you would expect from North Sydney. $7.90 for a Jack Daniels and coke.
S. L.
Fantasic pub, it's one the best in North Sydney
Often packed on Thursday and Friday's after 5pm but it's a good excuse to start at 4 , Staff are very friendly I have a good experience with a staff member I believe named jack
N. A.
Nice pub. Cold beer. The pies look good, pizza crust a bit soft. Good place for lunch on a Friday - is busy.
A. S.
Went on a Friday and they now have a really loud singer. He's good but it doesn't seem appropriate for after work drinks. Lunch times is incredibly busy but the foods ok
G.
Good Food and nice location for gathering....
L. M.
Friday lunch in North Sydney alive & well thanks to this place.
Could refresh menu a bit more frequently. Great staff and good atmosphere. Get in early to grab a seat.
S. G.
Good beers, great food. What more could you want for a place to meet up with your mates for a drink and feed. Save a seat (or lap) at your table for the resident cat who hops from visitor to visitor in search of a pat or place to snooze.
A. F.
It's hard to beat a $12 schnitty.
Small pub popular with both tradies and the corporate crew.
Friendly staff, solid beer list.
J. G.
I've never had a bad experience here at Rag & Famish. I've been to the trivia night and a couple of lunches or after work nibbles. They have the usually pub food and it is pretty good quality. Upstairs I've had their gnocchi and I suggest trying that.
A. L.
Hotel has a good atmosphere about it. Plenty of TV's showing sport. Wide range of beers on tap with a good wine list too.
J. B.
Food was good, reasonable price. Great selection of beer on tap. The pub has an historic feel and was very comfortable.
P. W.
This is a great pub right in the middle of North Sydney. This is were the office workers "hang out" after work. The atmosphere can get very lively at Friday nights. The food is good but can be expensive
L. P.
Good selection of beers on tap, delicious pies and other classic pub food. You can even bring your dog in to the courtyard area.
L. G.
Great for a casual drink with friends. Outdoor area is cosy. Beers on tap and they make a great gin and tonic.
L. B.
Nice pub with good atmosphere. The parmi with salad I had wasn't great though
D. F.
My goto water hole in North Sydney. Has loads of old pub charm. A short walk from the business district of North Sydney, you are bound to find a lot of "suits" here on a Friday night. But don't let that intimidate you. There is a pretty relaxed dress code, and many a times have I entered with shorts and thongs. So if you are up for a more relaxed oasis in North Sydney without the pretentious attitude of others, make sure you make your way here.
Standard pub fare in terms of food and drinks. Not that I have ever ate here. Well at least I can remember.
I. A.
Awesome old style pub. Great staff and nice friendly atmosphere. Pies absolutely worth a go, especially beef & Burgundy. Cheers 👌
R. W.
Nice pub and restaurant, we visited the restaurant on the second level for lunch. Food was good, we had all different dishes and all seemed to like what they got. Service was friendly and attentive. I recommend a visit.
C. R.
A superb hotel to meet friends for a drink . You must try one of their home made meat pies which taste brilliant and will satisfy any hunger.
J. G.
Great pub for lunch or after work drinks. Just beware it gets super busy Friday nights after work hours. I have no idea why they have bothered with the pokies. They could make more money just fitting in more of the after work crowd.
D. A. S.
Food is amazing. Place is amazing. Great company
J. B. R.
I had dinner and drinks here on a Friday night. Awesome bar! It has great atmosphere, and the beer and pies were great! I'll definitely go back!
T. G.
Great place to grab a drink and a feed. Best in North Sydney. The hostess Lara is the best !
B. v. B.
The local reliable pub for North Sydney. Good pub food, loads of sport, nice outdoor area. Always someone having a cheeky drink here, which is saying something in North Sydney!
A. B.
A staple of the North Sydney bar scene. I didn't realise that there was an upstairs section. Great good and great staff. Highly recommended.
D. S.
Traditional English style pub. OK range of beers, usually two or three interesting guest ones. One of the better places in North Sydney.
p. d.
Excellent service. Good food and selection. Reasonable prices.
C.
Decent pub in North Sydney CBD with a good selection of beers, outdoor seating and a tasty menu.
M. D.
Really nice staff and good ambience inside. Only slight downside was some of the portions of the entries came out to be disappointingly small.
A. B.
Great place to catch up with friends or small business talk. They have both outside and indoor sitting. Love their collection of beers. Good food.
B. S.
Could be a great pub, good beer and food, with friendly staff. However, the loud live music that you cannot escape from is the main flaw to this pub.
D. K.
We had a great night. Atmosphere was brilliant and the bisto food great. The service of all staff was fantastic and I told one of the bar staff as we left how good it was. We can complain when service is bad but rarely praise when good
H. W.
This pub is sensational. I especially love the restaurant upstairs. The service from the wait staff and the chef are five stars all the way.
J. J.
Top level is quite nice. We had a mates reception up there with around 50 people but can get squashy. The canapes could be better.
j. m.
Good menu. 2 for 1 steaks on Thursday night are great however don't expect too much. The meat is fatty and hard to chew.
M. G.
Great range of beers and the pizzas are good value for a pub dinner (~$16). Upstairs area is perfect for a function/reunion.
K. J.
Nice place for knock off beers. It's not a good sports bar unless you like NRL, rugby or greyhounds. Only 2 Foxtel boxes. Go south of the bridge to watch association football (finals included) or AFL.
S. B.
Fantastic old style pub in Nth Sydney. With Carlton straight from the barrel
N. F.
It's OK, a bit expensive (for the quality and service offered), but convenient for North Sydney visitors. The suits can get a bit loud though - but they are important (just ask them).
K. K.
An ok pub on the Northern side of North Sydney. TAB facilities are fine and a good selection of beer. Very popular with after work crowd.
C. K.
Great Pub centrally located in North Sydney. Original external facade and nice and cosy inside to watch the footy.
I. B.
The best spread of craft beer around that is always being updated set in a traditional pub. Don't get me started about how good the pies are.
M. B.
Older style pub with good selection of beers on tap. More comfortable than most other bars in North Sydney
P. B.
Cozy, warm, good food, plenty of bar staff to get your order done and many nearby public transport options. Also has a members badge draw and raffle on a weekly basis.
s.
Great cider here. Pies are nice but a bit pricey, should be $10. Atmosphere is great
P. M.
Good atmosphere, clean, good food, good service. Busier than I expected for a Sunday night.
K. R. (. T.
Nice little pub with an extensive choice of beers. Gets nice and busy around 5pm each day as all the people in Nth Syd get off work.
M. S.
Pies look delicious, haven't tried but super curious about it.
R. M.
Great beer and good. Gets busy at lunchtime but goes quickly. Best pub in North Sydney.
K. S.
I dont normally give 5 stars for a pub, but this place is gold. Friendly service, good vibe, cold beer and sensational pies!
G. E.
Very good public house & friendly service pity about the 2 high rises behind it pull them down to make parkland , it will be better pub
L. N.
Excellent food and service. Will certainly be returning next time I'm sent to Sydney for work.
i.
It's a decent pub for after work drinks... Food is a bit average... And not a great selection of beer.
D. C.
Great pub. Make sure you book a table if you're planning on heaving lunch on Friday
D. P.
Amazing Sunday roast and local craft beers on tap..the Guinness is pretty good too thumbs up
S. B.
Great bar food. Good atmosphere and if you are staying in North Sydney, super super convenient.
D. C.
If they capped the steak and chips at 15$, 5 stars. The staff are friendly, barmaids are great lasses.
T. S.
great place for a beer and a chat
N. B.
Fantastic food! Just eaten here for the first time... Thursday nite 2for1 on the steak...blown away the steak was one of the best steaks i have ever had! We will be back... regularly😉
S. H.
Good atmosphere. Very good staff. Food was below average though. Pie was just a microwave reheat job, served in the tin foil container.
S. C.
Only been here a couple of times but enjoyed a few different beers and really like the old fashioned feel of the place.
M. M.
Good food. Staff were rude when we wanted to change part of our order before we had even paid, woukd not have been hard. Very rude.
Good Steak cooked the way I like.
D. M.
Good for a quick lunch and a beer.
City Bistro prices and busy, noisy atmosphere.
Great for Lamb Shanks and hearty bistro style meals.
Ok Service.
N. V.
Oldest pub on the North Shore I think. Upstairs restaurant serves great meals - the two for one steak dinner on Thursday night's is a bargain!
S. F. A. B.
Loved it! Found the best seats in the house. Not telling where :)
N. S.
the drinks are ok but the patio has a lot of roaches so it's a bit disgusting...
J. I.
Last function 12 months ago and the food was ordinary. This time it was very good indeed..steaks rare...fish moist.....makes a pleasant change for pub functions
J. H.
Great Aussie Pub !! Great Steaks and Beers
R. B.
My favourite pub in the area. The food is amazing and there is a great selection of beers
O. S.
Great beer selection and decent range of food in a nice cosy atmosphere. My go-to pub in North Sydney.
P. B.
Best Guinness in Sydney.
Creamy head.
You can taste the toasted barley.
The Guinness pie is a great feed as well.
11/10.
A. F.
Nice cheap pub grub, good atmosphere. A fave for myself and work mates for a few drinks after work.
K. M.
The new Sunday roast is absolutely delicious! Priced cheap for good value, will definitely be coming back to try this again
J. F.
Great local pub, can even take your dog and sit in the courtyard out the back.
K. N.
Good selection on tap. Balters IPA with a schnitty or Guinness Pie. Live band often a hit or miss
D. S.
Great tap selection and good food. Service is pretty fast as well even when they are busy 👍👍
T. S.
Terrific pub, got the fast basic tucker downstairs but top class food upstairs, well kept bar with history, owners work it so it's well attended,
J. O.
Fabulous hotel with live bands and music available plus fun Karaoke nights as well. Excellent service, polite friendly staff. Indoor and outdoor seating. Great location
B. B.
There's still a call for an old style pub.. Small bars, cool places.. Those too. The Rag is an institution for a few jars after work
D. O.
Great meals and service at a reasonable price! The vibe and atmosphere is also pretty chill.
J. T.
Nice atmosphere and vibe. Good price. Food was nice enough.
A. P.
Good place for a meal, for small or large groups. Also a very nice place to grab a drink with your work friends.
D. G.
Mate! Thursday and Friday night... Packed with revellers winding down after a hard week sitting at their desks. Great pub. Great history.
D. L.
Lovely Old Pub in Nth Sydney Great Food definitely a must visit if in the area.
S. G.
Good quality pub grub. But be sure you come in early to grab a table at lunch, this place gets busy, especially on a Friday.
M. S.
Great little pub in inner North Sydney, and especially as it's dog friendly!
L. I.
Surprised by the quality of our meals. I had the lamb sausages au jus on a wonderful bed of mashed potatoes with peas - yum!
N. C.
Don't go with kids, especially if you're trying to escape the heat! Food is okay. Probably a great pub if you're young and carefree!
E. S.
Great food and good customer service. Even when busy the restaurant is quietish and can easily have a conversation.
J. R.
Good assortment of beer, pub food is mostly ok (had a schnitzel that was a bit dry), and is nice enough for a pub.
K. R. (. B.
Awesome historic pub. Best pie & chips you will ever eat for $14. Lots of beers.
G. S.
Great old style pub. Food used to be better, especially the chicken wings. Why oh why will they not play music that suits the atmosphere and crowd...Loud club tunes are the last thing this place needs.
M. R.
Great pub food, trivia night is fun and decent out door space. Great if you have a group
A. B.
Nice pub with a good outside area. Large food portions. Food is good and well priced, especially for Sydney.
T. R. (.

L. F.
Absolutely Beautiful hotel I always go there when I'm in North Sydney
D. B.
Nice cosy place for having a drink after work - can get crowded on Friday afternoons. Don't forget the check the bar/restaurant section on the upper level!

D. O.

A. G.
Nice quaint little hotel with a good variety of beers on tap. Cozy setting with an outdoor area.
R. M.
Always enjoyed the pub and food... upstairs restaurant takes it to the next level for a tasty steak
R. L. H.
It's a nice pub located near the heart of North Sydney and just down the road from North Sydney Oval. The prices of the food and lager will have your eyes lighting up like dinner plates though, very expensive.
A. C.
When you want a Parma or a solid steak, this place has got ya covered. It's not pretending to be anything it's not and a solid selection of beer keeps everyone happy :)
S. M.
Great atmosphere, cold beer and good food. Great place for a late sunday lunch.
