T. K.Star Bar has moved on so much from its Planet Hollywood days. Food, drinks and deco improved so much. Pizzas are especially good here but the snacks and small dishes not as much. Popcorn chicken, fish n chips and salt n pepper calamari, bread n dips were average but "I'll Be Back" for the pizzas and beers.
R. S.By far, one of the best pubs I have been to in a long time. This place has it all! Plenty of pool tables, amazing food, multiple bars, a huge sports screen, a comedy store, a weird wax model display with Terminator and I think a naked Stallone.....? And good cheap drinks!
Spread out over three levels they can facilitate for a lot of people, and the high ceilings upstairs give an open and chilled feel.
I can't truly express how much I enjoyed this place. Will definitely be returning!

P. R.I lost count on how may times we go here,but we love eating here. We order the $12.50 steak and mash, we order the add on chicken wings and pasta special or the $15 steak from Wednesday’s. For the price it’s worth it. The chefs cooks it well and the steaks are tender and usually a lot better then some restaurants I’ve been too.
I don’t think you can get a better steak for that price in the city.
We’ve eaten mostly everything else on the menu and it’s been good too. But we definitely like the steaks.
Great looking place. Chefs are great. We are regulars here, we some times eat here 3x a week. Overall great place for anyone wanting a affordable meal and a few drinks with friends.
J. C.All fine meal:) I chose $12.50 meals for lunch and I added a creamy mushroom sauce which was $3. I ordered steak among 3 choices, steak, pasta and fish and chips. For side, I had french fries and an alternative was mashed potato. I enjoyed medium-rare cooked steak which was tender and juicy. French fries were good too, and I recommend you to order french fries rather than mashed potato bcz it was quite creamy for me. You can choose not to order extra sauce since there are free sauces like seed mustard.
A. K. Y. T.Great pub in the centre that does Waygu Steak for $15 every Wednesdays and Fridays. Decent size piece of meat but only comes with chips. Very well cooked. Cute little self service process to collect condiments and your meal.
M. L. W.$10.50 steak cook to perfection. The cuts is so tender and juicy. The down side is we were there around 530 and there is already after crowd. Waited for 45min for our steak. Go earlier than the crowds or just go after dinner peak.

N. W.Came to the Star Bar on a Saturday night around 7 pm. As I was with a few friends, we decided to go upstairs to the restaurant area. The menu had a good range of classic choices, such as the Caesar Salad (which is what I got). When ready to order, you are required to go to the bar, yet pick up your food at the restaurant itself. Not that it was a huge issue.
There is light background music until 9:30 pm to which the volume turns up and your voices become drowned out. This is due to the upstairs area being turned into a nightclub. Some chairs and tables are removed to make way for an open dance floor.
Overall, it was a great experience, and I can see myself returning in the near future.

M. R.Its a cool bar, with a nice environment, some pool tables and different areas. But there are some problems that for me are really bad. For example in a busy night, there is always a weird smell.

M. V.Downstairs is okay. They relocated the long bar on the ground floor to the back making it more spacious.
They seriously need to update their speakers...it was cracking and had high pitched screeching. Not pleasant at all.
Upstairs was a massive make over. Very impressed with the design.
Haven't tried any of the food so can't comment but they do have their own kitchen now and plenty of seating area.
They now host comedy nights there as well - so a very good addition.
If they update their speakers system, I would have given them 5 stars. Seriously, it was that bad: minus 2 stars bad.
P. H.Great spot for a mid week lunch steak special. Beautifully cooked and even better with a side of wings. Plenty of seating and music at just the right level to have a conversation. Don't go expecting a fine dining experience. This is good honest pub food in a casual dining space.

A. G.It's a really good bar. There you can find 3 levels. Each level has a different environment it's depends what do you really like. For example, if you want just eating or drinking some beer, you can go to level 3. But if you want to listening music you can go at the other 2 levels. Really it's depends what do you want.
The Bar is really nice, the staff is really friendly, some times the security people are a little bit rude.
The food there is really good and the prices are adequate.
M. V.A place to meet with friends before you decide where you actually want to go. The drinks are crazily overpriced just like at any bar around the lockout areas. Upstairs area looks fancy with a dancer floor. The sound system will BLAST some trashy pop tunes and if you are on your 5-6 drink you might be tempted to dance. The downstairs area with pool tables is more suitable if you want to have drinks and talk with people.
C. B.Amazing experience. Went here to celebrate Nepali New Year with a group of friends and all of us are really glad that we chose this place over the others. The bar service was fast and the music was perfect. It wasn't too crowded nor too quiet. The environment was just fun fun fun.

Only problem I've had is once the lemonade in the hose wasn't mixed and came in my drink as straight syrup which made me sick. But then the staff came to check on me straight away so that was nice.

Enough space for a terrible dancer like me to dance too . There are 3 floors . The ground/ basement floor has pool tables . The first floor is alright , seems drinks are cheaper there and large are for smokers . The top floor has dance floor with DJs and is open till late night. So far had good experience with bouncers compared to some other bars in Sydney . Overall it is a nice place to unwind after a hectic day at work . Sometimes there is a stand-up comedy in the top floor but never tried it
A. B.I often go to Star Bar to have lunch with my work mates. I find the location super convenient, the restaurant is spacious, and the food is delicious.
I don't think it's expensive for what it offers. There are some lunch specials, and the plates are BIG.
As a vegetarian, I love the spicy lentils burger. Yummy!
A. S.The first time I was in Star Bar is today. My friend recommended me this place. I had just ordered a beer jug and was thinking of enjoying the moment with my girl. Before I could take a sip, the fire alarms went off. We had to evacuate. There was a fire in the next door kebab place. I had to leave my beer. Looked like a decent place but never got to enjoy. I miss my beer.
J. H.Not the flashiest of establishments but one that never disappoints. With on the mark prices it really attracts a good mix of clientele. With 3 levels of gallivanting to do you are never bored. Snooker downstairs, bar in the middle and food/bar upstairs that later turns into a dancefloor. Good atmosphere with a down to earth customer base. Some tourists which are always out for a good time. Come casual with a positive attitude for a good night.
S. S.Nice and affordable, 2min walk from both the train station and a Mac Donald's! It also has lots of pool tables. The atmosphere is great, with nice bartenders and great people, however even though at times the music is not the best (to my personal taste) this place is worth a visit.

P. G.Basement is smelly. Ground floor is noisy and crowded. First floor does not have pool tables. Food is good. Beer is average. Pool tables take $3 to play. Crowd is OK... Its one of the cheaper bars. You get what you pay for I guess.

R. W.Star bar is fun, but you need to go here with an understanding that it's not really a classy place. The main attraction here is cheap drinks. The crowd is mostly backpackers and students, with occasionally some old locals mixed in. It's fun but be aware what you're in for.

J. C.I think it's all about expectations . Star bar is a great venue if you like cheap drinks a mixed crowd and a lot of different opportunities to meet people. It always has most of the sports games on at least one screen downstairs and there's a big bar with a DJ and dance floor upstairs. I like that people are not pretentious and most are just out for a good time it's definitely not the Ivy crowd. There's a lot of younger people here because it's cheap and if you go for the house drinks between 7 p.m. and midnight it's $5 vodka or bourbon or scotch with a mixer and that's pretty hard to beat in the middle of Sydney with some sort of atmosphere. Definitely not a date place but a fun start to a night out especially for a group
D. N.We had a lovely Saturday night session at Star Bar. The staff were lovely and friendly all night. Security was very friendly which is a huge difference maker. The footy was on the big screen, the beer was affordable and lots of laughs were had. Amazing stuff

l.We had my husbands 30th birthday at Star Bar. All staff from events to management to kitchen and bar staff were very friendly, down to earth and easy to deal with. Nothing was too hard and we were really taken care of the whole night with our bar tab. Was even able to bring our own decorations and cake. Will definitely be back again!

The music playing are the newest hits around and the general ambience of the place gets you in the mood for the rest of the night.
C. P.I can't really say that I visit the Star Bar every week, but I do come here often. I've always been satisfied with the service here before, but something just happened tonight. When I was supposed to order a drink, I waited in the queue in front of the bar for like 10 minutes, but the bartender just ignored me and served other customers instead. Though I don't know the exact reason why she did that, I hope it's not because I'm an Asian but not a white girl.

D. I.I went to the comedy club here. Some of the comedians were great, others...may need to work on their craft.... Drinks here was cool (upstairs) liked the cocktails and many people were working at the bar so not much of a line up.

The drinks here are actually pretty cheap for a bar but would not recommend buying food here which can be pricier than just walking outside and going to the nearest fast food chain. There are 3 levels in the bar:
- The top level which has the dance floor, loud music and a restaurant-like area (this is where the food is served but also where the bar closes pretty early).
- Ground floor where the main bar is located, the atm and a normal bar area
- Lower ground floor which has the main toilets, pool tables and is a little quieter than the other two floors.
P. L.An alright place to start the night. Decent pricing of drinks and the atmosphere is alright but I wouldn't see myself spending too long in here. Don't be surprised to see male bar staff to ignore you to serve a female behind you.

We got priority service at the bar and were not thirsty the whole night!
As an unintentional bonus, he loaned us an AUX cord to connect to the sound system. It connected our phone to the whole lower floor. We gotta be the DJ's for the night. Absolutely tops.

B. S.One of the good-old-days clubs where the entry is still free of charge. It used to be pretty rough with police parking a few cars outside every Friday and Saturday night but after lockouts it's much more civilised. Probably the only place that saw positive changes due to lockouts. There are pool tables downstairs and dance floor and seats upstairs. Live DJ plays club music. There are also 2 bars, one main on the left hand side when you walk up the stairs and second one smaller on the right hand side.

J. A.Not a bad venue and well located with a pretty diverse and competitively priced food menu. The only flaw is the service, with the bar staff generally on a spectrum from close-to-non-english speaking to obnoxious (or both) with no in between. If you are willing to look past that (which I am for the most part) then it is probably worth a crack. Large spacious venue upstairs almost always somewhere to sit provided your not there on a Friday or Saturday. That said, there are plenty of other venues in the vicinity that while not as large are also not as busy and offer better service, aesthetic, crowd, food and drinks. Examples that come to mind are the Smoking Panda and The Cidery.
B. u.Been there many times, preety cheap drinks, preety good dancing place overall good crpud and service. Generally very good for the groups. One of the best of its business in sydney in my opinion. Have got some variety of good food, some olaying area for pool, smoking zones. For dancing it got great music and djs

The total change from the old star bar does it a huge favour and once this new image is talked about on the street, the mid week lunch trade will be quite busy.
I am still not really interested in heading there for a drink on Friday night but that may change too.

Edit #2 I didn't realise that StarBar is a Maloney hotel. I live across the road from Maloney, and stopped going there several years ago because the music in the daytime is WAY TOO LOUD.

A. F.I went here the other night before going to the movies because I had heard such great things about the new menu and renovations from my colleagues.
I had the arrancini and then the goats cheese and hazelnut warm salad, I don't believe that salad should be a meal but holy heck. This ignited a love for goats cheese and I can't stop telling my friends.
Really great looking bar, they have put in alot of thought re-designing it. Doesn't feel like a weird vampire dungeon like it did before. Very open and quite sophisticated. My friend had the steak and said it was great, a favourite pub meal with a twist. Decently priced at around the $15 to $25 mark for a meal and $6 or so for a schooner of 150 lashes was also very decent.

Food standard pub grub. They let themselves down a little with "veg" being 4 or 5 small beans and tiny pieces of broccoli and cauli, but otherwise ok.
They need to kill off that "great Aussie customer service come and get your food yourself" buzzer system.... surely for $125 they can bring it to you (like lockout lawas, this seems to be particularly a Sydney thing).
We happened to be there when the rugby game was on (which is fine), but the volume was so bloody loud we had to yell to talk to each other and that kind of killed it so we left after requests to turn it to a reasonable level fell on deaf ears (pun intended).

The first thing I couldn't shake off was the smell - there is a horrid smell from the carpet in the eating area.
The bar tender was friendly enough, unlike the food. With the group of mates that I went with, we all ordered steaks, and all were cooked poorly. Mediums were rare at best, and well-dones were terribly overcooked.

When they have offers on it can be quiet good value but the staff are a bit arsey and it feels a bit like a school canteen. The meals are basic but cheap and cheerful.

M. X.During the renovation, Star Bar wasn't the best place to chill after a long day. After all the construction finished, it still wasn't the cheapest or most atmospheric place to be be on a Friday night. There are plenty of places with cheaper drinks or better food. It is however, located a stone's throw from Town Hall station, which makes the Friday night queues all the less bearable.
N. S.One of the best hot wings in town I believe. Not much of beer options, but a great place for an evening out with friends.

The worst place ever... The security guys abuse and they're rude. honestly I don't recommend this place. Get in its just luck and all depends of their mood, not because you wear sneakers or not. Don't waste your time going there and don't pay to get that bad quality of service.
