Must visit speakeasy bar in the north shore. If you amazing atmosphere, fantastic drinks, superb food and the best service Sydney has to offer this is the bar for you. Don't be deterred by the charcuterie front, once you ask for a table (book in advance Thursday through Saturday night) you're in for an incredible experience. Pete, Ollie and the team will sort you out, keep U laughing or give you your space for you and a special friend or 3. 18/10 venue, will come back many more times

The good. Very cool inside, worth a visit just to check out the decor. The food and drinks were great. Service was generally good. Entrance (via the fridge door) shows a real sense of humour and style. The bad. A really wanky "nightclub" style fake queue. Got inside and was half full. The menus are so "super cool" (as in tiny font on brown paper) and the lighting so low that I accidentally ordered a beer with no alcohol (which still cost $11!) and I saw at least three other tables using torches on their phone to read the menu. The table layout was ridiculous. Our was so close to next one that every time a waiter walked past (that gap was the access to the next row of tables) they clipped our table on every pass and I had a shelf poking me in the back so we couldn't move further away. Tables should have been staggered. But my biggest complaint....sorry I said MY BIGGEST COMPLANT! is that this place has the acoustics of an echo chamber. You will NOT be sitting here engaged in conversation unless you are yelling at each other. Since when did this become cool? Concrete floor, concrete ceiling, hard walls and no table cloths. "What did you say?" Is the most common phrase uttered in here. All that said if your thing is cool looking noisy bars with no elbow room then this is for you, and I reckon that's what a lot of people think is cool at the moment for reasons I can't quite understand. Congratulations to the owners, you are on a winner but I prefer to talk in comfort for the prices charged.

A little hidden gem of Manly for sure. The location is very understated and easy to walk by unless you know it’s there. Cocktails are great, food was fantastic and the staff friendly. If you are looking for some tapas in a friendly and cozy cocktail bar, go to the Cumberland.

We visit The Cumberland before lockdown. We had great experience there. I love how they set up it like a secret bar. Old fashion, so classic. I can still remember it smiles like wood, smoky. Such a cool whisky bar. A similar one in Newtown kind of similar style, the Cumberland definitely accelerated it to another level!

Awesome little secret underground bar (shhhhh!) accessible only through a butchers fridge. They have a great selection of drinks including some very beautifully made cocktails. The staff are really friendly and well dressed. Some amazing platters available. Love it!! The only downside is that is has a small capacity and is very popular so you may end up queueing at peak times.

We had such a great experience I had to take the time to write a review! It gets quite busy so we made sure to arrive around 5-5.30pm and the place quickly became full! Service was perfect, whether they had 2 tables or went packed. The mixed plate with cured meat and cheese was delicious as well as the bread and nuts served with it, all red wines by the glass was smooth and nice. We also tried the cheese Terrine which was lovely. Overall you really feel like quality products have been selected for the whole menu! Already planned to come back with other friends!

Didn't know of this place until told by a local. A speakeasy type of place, hidden from view with a deli as the front. Very well thought out. Good professional service, didn't have to wait at the bar. The drinks and food, well, 5 stars as given. The place/decor was within the "period" and even the restrooms were of the times clean. Well felt like we were back in time.

BEST BAR on the Northern beaches. This speak easy is an absolute golden gem in Manly! Pete the founder had a vision and executed it perfectly. The tapas, the cocktails, the tunes and vibe are outstanding. The chef Kiera is very passionate too. It now takes the crown of best bar on the Northern beaches.

The experience akin to a Speakeasy of the American Prohibition era. The entrance is well disguised as a walk-in fridge door in a very small deli. Ee followed the Google map and could not find the bar so stopped at the deli and asked, only to find we were at the right place. It was exciting to be led to a table in the basement bar, the atmosphere was amazing and the experience something to remember. I recommend booking ahead to avoid disappointment as the bar is very popular and only become more so.

The Cumberland is a must visit if you are in Manly. It has an amazing and unique cocktail list based on local natives, and a great atmosphere and beautiful setting. If you get the opportunity to speak to Pete, we would also highly recommend asking about the inspiration for the bar and menu. It was fascinating to hear about how much history and research of the area the Cumberland and the menu have drawn on. Would very highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t already – you won’t be disappointed!

Absolutely amazing place from top to bottom! The security guard is charming in his effort to keep you waiting the 20-30min it may take for a table to open, the drinks menu is fantastic and even comes with a great tale from the man who created the menu. I cannot understand some of the poor reviews about rudeness, everyone here was fantastic and I’d have to think anyone who reviewed negatively was probably a rude customer themselves. The drinks are delicious and very reasonably priced for the area!

Great little underground old style bar well and truly hidden from the street level. Nice cocktails; really great whisky range. Make sure to get organised and book in a week or two in advance for Sat nights as the bookings go pretty quickly in such a small venue in the brave new COVID world. Had a blast - cheers guys.

Visited this bar this evening and had an amazing time! A short wait to get in which was passed with banter with the guard and meeting new friends. Once inside, the vibe was very intimate and sophisticated. The cocktails were top notch and delivered in reasonable time with a smile. I would recommend The Cumberland to any of my friends and will definitely be returning.

Nice concept, a speak easy bar in manly is definitely somthing new and exciting for the area. Overall the design and atomsphere was well executed. The let down was the quality of cocktails and although the staff were super friendly, they had been told to sell hard. Probably wouldn't come back, better local cocktail bars close by. Good for the novelty though.

Beautiful little place with great decor, atmosphere and cocktails. I don’t get to try the food yet but it did look good. I have only one complaint - but it was sth that truly bothered me - it was very loud. Not more than 20 people inside and I could not hear my hubby who was right next to me at tiny table. Maybe sth not quite right with the acoustics... Otherwise - it’s a great concept and I hope it does well!

Booked for a night out with some mates to experience cocktail culture for the first time with the recommendation of the Cumberland to introduce them. Being tucked away in the heart of Manly underneath an intriguingly humble deli that masks in fashionable true nature. Once travelling down the spiral staircase to be greeted by Pete, the charming and conversational boss man of this secretive 30s style speakeasy. The unique integration of native botanicals in their signature drinks gave off a localised and grounded sense to their beverages which were all marvellously presented (the Lilly Pilly Sour and Georgiana became my new favs while I was there). Classic cocktails can also be requested and are presented perfectly (Sidecar garnished with sugar rim that I have hardly seen from other cocktail bars). The platters that were offered were refined and perfect as a light entree type dish to start off our night out with salami, pickles, peppers and bread to share between 4 people. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed our night and are looking forward to coming back soon.

Absolutely fantastic place. I came all the way from Paris to see my son, he took me to the Cumberland where we had a marvelous evening. My cocktail was delicious (the Bathurst) and so was the food. What a stunning surprise to find a Raclette in the heart of Manly, and a very good one too. But above all, the service was incredible, casual yet sophisticated, friendly and very knowledgeable. The Cumberland a must see in Manly, in Australia, in the World.

Don’t listen to all the soft people here complaining about door staff and being refused entry. They don’t understand that bouncers are contracted and have nothing to do with the venue. This is a very classy and upmarket bar with outstanding quality drinks.
