First time visiting as a Friday evening local office worker. Caitlin had the bar rocking and was and absolute boss managing a busy bar whilst training a new starter Nikki. Google review capped out at 5 stars but I'd give it a 6 as the wait staff rocked it 🤙

TV and appliances very old fashion but room and view is good
R. M.
Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The food was alright but not fantastic
E. S.
For the budget price for stay, the room was pleasing enough for one night. Comfort level was ok, sheets were clean and room tidy but unfortunately only hot water in the room sink was available and no milk for hot beverages available in mini fridge.
However, the lady who checked us in was friendly and polite and so were the other staff.
M. C.
Great staff and atmosphere and good value for the money
R. C.
Lovely dinner and drinks! Great ambiance.

Was there last night (Friday). Your staff are excellent, as was the pub food. That and not being drowned out by loud music made it a really good casual venue.
D. F.
Not a bad pub. Had a few beers and dinner there one night. I was happy with the range of beer, although not craft beer. The food was decent, but the so called "Buffalo" wings were anything but Buffalo. Still tasty, just not what I expected. The burger was a little on the pricey side to be served well done, should've been served medium.
D. P.
Decent pub with standard pub food done very well. Not much seating on ground floor but that just adds to atmosphere.
S. G. J.
I liked the unlimited self service breakfast they provide with juices such as pineapple, apple, orange & cranberry matching with white or wheat bread. Very accommodating & courteous staffs. Clean room, even toilet & bathroom.

Situated in an old building. Their reception is the bar downstairs. Staff is friendly and helpful and would keep your bags in store if you arrive earlier than check in time which is 2 PM. The interior is old and needs major upgrades. The carpet inside the room were worn out and ripped. Ongoing construction just outside the hotel makes it very noisy and difficult to sleep at night. The balcony glass door doesn't shut properly and I could hear noise till 3-4 AM and could not sleep while my 2 night stay here. Compmenentary 24 hour breakfast options is a bonus and have all the basic stuff (bread, spreads, fruits, milk, cereal and coffee/tea) to get you started for the day. I would recommend paying a little extra and find a quiter place if you are looking to get nice sleep after a long day exploring the city. Kudos to the staff for being courteous and friendly.

Stopped in as it was near my hotel. The pub at street level was super attentive service and friendly. Gave me advice on where to head for the night. Great beer on tap. Super small place, felt busy anytime a group came in. Ally was an absolute gem. Stop in of you're near by.
J. H.
Great pub grub in town.
The upstairs area is completely unexpected and fantastic. Generous portions, reasonable prices and really friendly staff.
It's quite dark and can definitely trap you for a long time and make you really settle in and have far too much fun!

Our overnight stay at The Grand Hotel was fantastic. Very comfortable beds. Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely continental breakfast included. The shared bathroom was no issue at all and the hotel was clean and tidy. A wonderful spot to stay in the CBD.
E. L.
very happy with the service, accommodation, affordability and location of the Grand Hotel. 24hr free breakfast buffet which is great for those travelling through and not wanting to spend copious amounts of money on eating out. Shared bathroom facilities with two on each floor with separate bath and shower. also two separate toilets on each floor. These facilities were clean and it once did i have to wait to use the bathroom.
all staff; bar, restaurant and cleaning staff were extremely friendly and approachable.
stayed two nights, and would definitely return.

Central hotel, very close to Wynyard Station. 10 minutes to circular quay. Very clean rooms and bathrooms and toilet. Breakfast room on floor 3 is well stocked with cereals, juice , bread etc. Very good value. Can be noisy because of on going construction. Top floor-5, also noisy because of air-conditioning above. My only real complaint is poor lighting in rooms. Seemingly 40 watt bulbs everywhere. Have stayed here twice and would again. A good solid value for money hotel.
g.
The best location ever. Within walking distance to all downtown areas including wharfs. Old, rustic hotel with character. The room was small but everything was clean. Washroom/shower room were very clean.
Front door staff were very accommodating.

No veg options except for Nachos. The world is changing!
M. W.
Quaint little pub off Pitt and hunter streets serving food and cocktails. Open 7 days a week from 8:00am-2:00am. Sunday’s noon to 10:00pm. Happy hours daily from 7-9pm with house beer wine and spirits for $6 dollars.
R. F.
The room and linen was clean. The bed was comfortable and the location is good. The staff were friendly and the breakfast room was a delightful bonus to my stay. The only thing I wish they could improve on is bathrooms within the rooms. I would definitely stay again.
M. M.
Always great service and nice staff.
J. W.
Ideal location for budget minded travellers who don't mind the worn carpet in exchange for easy access to the most wonderful parts of the city. Decent breakfast, a comfortable bed and a warm and welcoming staff are all to be found for a reasonable price. The lively pub crowd downstairs is another plus to the accommodations.
L. M.
We stayed here as we missed a flight back home and needed somewhere cheap and cheerful to stay last minute. The room was affordable and clean, shared bathrooms and showers however there were kept quite clean. Only issue we had was that we were double charged, however staff were more than happy to fix this after a simple phone call once we got home. Easy to get to everything from the grand hotel and pretty good for the price.
s. k.
Nice hotel with budget rooms and shared bathrooms. The breakfast provided is good with cornflakes bread jam milk coffee and fruits. Very near to all major hotels and has a bar in ground floor. Recommended for a comfortable stay.
T. M.
I like everything Had excellent time. Half an hour at the street was nicely refreshing since in the room was really hot. Couldn't get wireless in room (top floor) but that is fine as the breakfast room was open and it worked fine there. I was trapped inside the elevator unable to get to my room.
R. N.
Great price. Great location. Rooms were clean and serviced daily. Great old pub. Showers and toilets down the hallway. Clean and tidy for very old building. Continental free breakfast. 10% discount on food and drinks. Bit noisy with street cleaning one night of our 6 night stay.
Well used old pub with accommodation. Don't expect 5 star from 100 year old pub but clean tidy and great staff. Close to train station darling harbour circular quay opera house. Would not hesitate to stay again as we were out exploring every day and used as central base with the odd meal. Full Mark's for location, cleanliness, friendly staff, great food, reasonably priced.

Great place for a beer with friends, small but cosy. Bar staff are friendly
B. E.
Interesting hotel. Cool but small. Lighting in room was really poor. Elevator difficult to use. Water went cold in shower. Shower head didn't work. Check-in at bar was weird. Getting a hold of anyone in morning not viable (bar closed).
D. M.
Not for elderly or handicapped people. The elevator requires you open the two doors manually. They are rather heavy. Sometimes the elevator doesn't align correctly so there's a slight step up or step down, a to hazard.
No air conditioner, no bathroom en suite. You have to go down the hall. The shower has a significant step up which can be challenging.
The "breakfast room" is open 24 hours but only has a little food. Instant coffee, 4 sugar cereals, bread, and milk/juice in the refrigerator. A sign asks you to wash your own dishes. The trash bin was overflowing. I thought maybe we were supposed to empty the trash for the workers.
There's no lobby. You check in at the bar downstairs.
It's an old building but it's clean. The housekeeping is good.
C. N.
Wish they have some vegan food options and maybe some 5pm happy hour alco options but staff are friendly and professional! Thank you for accomodating our afterwork team catch up!
J.
Shared bathroom and toilet per floor. Quite old and a bit shabby, threadbare carpet etc. I stayed here as a kid 30 years ago and nothing much had changed, which is nice and nostalgic but not so great if you're not after that. Basic continental breakfast. Nothing to get excited about but we slept comfortably enough. $120/night seems expensive for what we got but in the middle of Sydney maybe it's ok.

My friends and I stayed at this hotel on the last weekend of December.
After reading all of the reviews for this hotel we were very worried what we had gotten ourselves into. once we arrived we realized that most of the reviews were from whingers. the hotel is old built around 1940's. The room was clean, the beds were comfy, there was a TV, fridge and a sink.
I can confirm the rooms don't have their own bathroom. Communal toilets and showers (but it's not what most people think.) there were two bathrooms and two toilets, no wall of showers or cubicle toilets like a gym change room.
The lift was Quirky as it had manual open doors that you slide. i thought it was cool and we never had problems with the lift.
the hotel is close to all the touristy stuff like darling harbor and is close to possibly the best nightclub in Sydney (The Ivy.)
i really liked the place and i will stay there again when I'm in town.
V. H.
This review relates to the accommodation only. This is an old-school hotel in the sense of it being a historic pub with accommodation in the upper floors. The location is about as central as you can get in the CBD although the amenities are limited (as reflected by the *relatively* lower room rates), such as shared bathrooms and limited natural light (or even artificial light!). It is quite a bare bones place that does the job, but won't do it with any flair whatsoever.
M. H.
I had a fresh pint of Kosciusko for $11. They played 90's rock and the wood interior gave the tiny bar a cosy feel. I haven't tried the hotel for a night yet.
C. W.
Worse hotel I've been to.
My mistake, website and ratings made it feel like a decent place to stay
Someone emptied the glass bins in the morning and an unbelievable stench stunk out my room for a long time
I guess it's kinda OK for those on a budget....but don't expect wonders
e. f.
I love this old hotel.
90 years of history with a comfortable basic room, great kitchen and dining area for breakfast.
Right in heart of town. Step off the train and it's 100 metres from the station.
Small convenience store across the road.
I can't complain... but then again, I'm not a fussy yuppy. 😊
T. M.
The staff are friendly and the ***ager Dan makes you extremely welcome in the sports bar on the ground floor. The restaurant meals were excellent. I would recommend the hotel on the value and the location and if you're prepared to forfeit …
D.
Great place to drink when it's not so busy. Can be very busy on a Friday afternoon. Friendly team members who are proactive and always ensure you have a drink or pub grub in front of you.
T. R. B.
My usual Saturday watering hole.
Certainly nothing fancy about this little pub but it will be getting a makeover soon.
There's not many pubs in the city that haven't had those awful renovations that turn them from a cosy pub into a yuppie bar. Let's hope that doesn't happen here.
During the week it gets a good mix of suits and construction workers. It does get a bit loud and crowded around 5pm but calms down by about 7pm.
Good bistro and a decent range of beers make it worthwhile popping in.
Thanks to John the happy Irish barman for keeping me company.
K. G.
Amazing Staff!! They made the entire experience. I inadvertently booked two rooms with a single double bed each thinking there were four total beds. Maria made sure we were accommodated the best that was possible.
Location was Perfect!! Walking distance to the Sydney Bridge and the Sydney Opera House and basically all the areas in the city.
The bathrooms and showers are shared by the entire floor, but they were clean and had great water pressure on the 4th floor.
Breakfast left a little to be desired, but it was adequate for the basics.
K. N.
Cool old pub in convenient location. Inexpensive accommodation so don't expect the room to be too fancy, communal bathrooms and the like. Great for a place to crash after a night out in Sydney. Old style "open door yourself" elevator was added bonus.
G.
Deserves 4 stars at least for the many Friday nights I spent at 'The Tank Stream Tavern' bar in 1980-81.
Still a nice pub, though I no longer have the stamina for a Friday night session (they must be making the beer stronger).
i. w.
Very good accommodation, very surprised how quiet it was. No air conditioner but has shower toilet and lift. Has pokies that never win and beer on tap. Staff very polite.
F. D.
Fantastic value and facilities considering low fee. Enjoyed the old school premise.
Toilet scent did drift into room which wasn’t too nice though
H. M.
We loved the Grand, the position was perfect, walked everywhere we wanted to go. The breakfast was a great start for my son. The staff very friendly and helpful.
K. T.
They stolen my booking that l made 9 months ago. Luckily l rang and spoke to Marie and she fixed it up. Stayed 2 nights over new year eve. Room basic but very clean. Plenty of breakfast supplies. Greattach location to Sydney. Would love to see New carpet. And would stay again as the cost is reasonable.
E. O.
Great staff. Good atmosphere. Average food..
O. C.
Great place for backpackers. Clean and large rooms with clean shared accommodations. A continental breakfast is even available 24/7. It's a great place to stay when visiting Sydney
W. R.
Good city pub, bit of a maritime theme, menu is standard pub fare but tasty and good selection of beers.
T. M.
I booked this hotel to meet a friend for a weekend, because it was the cheapest available in the city and our budget was limited. Staff were excellent. The location was rather inconvenient for me. Sydney is expensive so you won't get much for the money paid for this place.
R. S.
Had a really nice stay here. The room was nice and clean, basic but comfortable. There's a nice breakfast room available for guests. Would recommend as a good, budget stay.
z. z.
location is good, the room are old , need to improve , was stayed two night , the first night ask for a better fan(which I know no air conditional), or a bigger fan, not a tiny wall fan .room of the floor is dirty and the fan are not working, and ask for a room changing on the first night ,but get ignored, staff is not looking after customer at all cos they need to running on the bar section.24 hours breakfast and the luggages area was the mostly appreciated.
A. A.
Good food, amazing hot chips and not a bad price for somewhere that's right in the middle of the city. Upper levels are great, but top to bottom space is limited.
L. B.
The place in general was good the service was great but the ladies upstairs was quiet off putting it was the only down side to the place.
J. G.
Central location for a workday lunch, portions are a good size and very tasty. Can be a little busy at lunch time, but I can always find a table on the top floor.
F. C.
First time here, at 30 Knot restaurant upstairs, and the food was very good. So much to choose from off the menu, and I struggled narrowing down my selection, but in the end had a very good chicken schnitzel.
L. C.
Came to the Grand for late lunch. Service was great by everyone, Abbey stood out to us . Would highly recommend for drinks and a good feed.
S. C.
Handy central location. Limited beer selection, mostly macrobrews. Phone ahead to book a lunch table. Very crowded on Fridays.
L. S.
My new favourite place. Food is amazing and beer is cold to perfection. Also the people will treat you extremely well there.
P. L.
Terrific little bar . Conveniently located in middle of CBD on Hunter street. A great place to escape the city crowds for a quiet drink and read the newspaper .
R. A.
Nice room. Lovely breakfast room with different cereals, juices, coffee, bread, cookies, fruit... The style of the building is really beautiful.
B. N.
Old style pub on Hunter st. Great beers on top and good food that's not pricey. Always heaving after work gets out, due to its location but great place to pop in and check out. Get the chicken parmi it's Great!
M. C.
One of the few remaining proper pubs in Sydney. Unpretentious, good beer selection and the food is great.
The Deluxe Parma is possibly the best in Sydney!
P. T.
Best pub in the Sydney CBD. Like an old English pub. Lots of good beers on tap, good food, no pretentiousness. Love it.
G. Y.
Great location fantastic stuff in the bar absolutely terrible bathroom facilities even though they're very clean they're tiny they put massive soap dispensers in a tiny little 1 m by 1m shower I'm not into it multiple times hurt myself very poorly done bathrooms unfortunately
M. F.
Cosy little private pub which is good for a night in. Nothing too fancy, all basic ammenties are present. Good price for accommodation you receive and not too over crowded.
E. M.
Great little pub that oozes style.. great food and happy hour always brilliant..highly recommended.
T. K. P.
Although I preferred it more before the refurbishments it still is a great place to have a beer, the waitresses are great and have wonderful personalities.
M. C.
Went for lunch... Food was good but overpriced. What's wrong with good old fashioned Pub food? that's what we'd expect when stepping into the place anyway 😊
N. B.
Lovely quaint hotel providing great central location in the CBD. Amy, a hotel staff member, provided incredibly friendly and welcoming service. Absolutely fabulous.
J. C.
Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Got sampoo.conditioner and body wash. And slippers. Good beakfast open 24hr.
Shared bathroom.
S. H.
Can't describe the hotel, but they have clean toilets and they had a good beer
N. T.
Great place for a function. Very friendly & helpful staff.
h. q.
Great pub that has a classic heritage listed feel about it, spacious upstairs area with great service. Would come back here and drink again.
C. C.
Old school Sydney pub. Enjoyed our stay immensely. Great location, convenient & close to everything.
m.
Great location with ice cold beer in the heart of Sydney. Loved the apple cider by Pipsqueak. Awesome pub food.
J. O.
Good value for money. Clean rooms and great location. But really loud on a Friday night - too loud to sleep.
J. M.
Its an old pub but the rooms are clean and tidy, same with the toilets and showers. The best thing is its an affordable place to stay.
J. E.
A nights sleep after long flight from uk.
Lovly clean bedding and comfy bed.
Shared bathroom so keep those flip flops handy or thongs as you call them in Ausx
M. S.
$ stars for the refurbed ground floor bar. Otherwise its very much a locals after work bar upstairs. I love the fact you can get a pint in Sydney.
T. M.
Nothing short of a hostel, this hotel offers but the very basic of services. Breakfast is disappointing. Very close to Wynyard Station, and walking distance to Circular Quay and Queen Victoria Building. I think people need to keep in mind this is a pub with rooms over the top it's not a hotel.
B. K.
Old, quaint, and very clean. Staff are lovely, and the 24/7 kitchen is a real plus.
A.
Great old fashioned pub in the middle of Sydney. Three floors, good food and beer. Not too pricey, considering the location
A. R.
Had lunch at the Grand around the the 20th Jan and the steak was tough. Also quite noisy. Don't think I'd bother again.
T. T.
A great little pub. Comfortable, busy but not crowded, and super friendly staff.
R. W.
There's a convenience store and Vietnamese restaurant just opposite the hotel n it's convenient to walk around the city from here too...strategic location for travelers
T. N.
Thankyou the grand will back..
Amazing place to reminisce yet enjoy today..💓🙂
E. N.

D. G.
I could call this Place a TRIPLE 'A' Rated PUB; For the WRONG Reasons!
Lovely Bar Staff, although someone claims to be Lovelier AND........
J. E.
Good food, old style pub. Can watch footy but there aren't TVs everywhere and the pokies are out of sight.
M. S.
Great location, friendly staff. It was a bit nosey but not to bad for an inner city hotel... would stay again 😁
B. M.
Good service and food. Friendly professional staff
G. M.
Traditional sort of pub so I'm giving it 5 stars because that is what I like. Chicken parmy is exactly, exactly, what a pub chicken parmy should be.
H. N.
Old pub charm. Had a room booked for a function. Service was good. Food was so so.
T. M.
Small room with a single bedcrisp white sheets. Our room had massive black stains on the floor and it was my fault to not check that we had bathrooms in the actual room. In the end, I paid the price I had agreed on but not without the hassle.
R. B.
Nice cosy bars with great service
D. M.
Ok city pub. Music ridiculously loud for what is now a seated venue
M. A.
The place is good, with clean toilets and wide variety of spirits in their bar.
A. S.

(Translated) Rustic, good price for situation in the center (2Personen, 2Nächte 138 €), breakfast room anytime something to eat there. Pub included and courteous staff. The only downside construction sites in the area and therefore a bit noisy. But the hotel can not do that.
(Original)

(Translated) Rooms with outside noise, clean but outdated.
They offer a good breakfast.
It could improve the reception, since it is in the hotel bar, hand washing should be installed in the bathrooms.
(Original)
Habitaciones con ruido exterior, limpias pero anticuadas.
Ofrecen un buen desayuno.
Podría mejorar la recepción, ya que la misma es en el bar del hotel, el lavado de manos debería estar instalado en los baños.

(Translated) Very friendly and clean hotel without own sanitary facilities. Although the shower and toilet were common, everything was tidy. Staff helpful and the atmosphere of the hotel amazing. Excellent location in the city center.
I see the negative in the big noise coming from the streets and the opposite office building, where it is very easy to see the room.

Velice příjemný a čistý hotel bez vlastního sociálního zařízení. Ačkoliv sprcha i toaleta byla společná, vše perfektně uklizené. Personál ochotný a atmosféra hotelu úžasná.

(Translated) ideally located and affordable, warm welcome, average cleanliness had to the old-fashioned appearance of the hotel, (carpet) minimalist room, toilet on the landing, but very good atmosphere, pub for beer drinkers, very Also quiet. Halfway between the hotel and the Backpaker, I recommend for those who prefer the location and the atmosphere to comfort.
