The waitress couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating. Because we'd booked, she was happy to swap tables for us to something more appropriate for little kids. Had a delicious gnocchi. The only thing I would have liked to see different was the "milk bun" which is pretty much sugar and fat. The only choice for a burger. Otherwise I would have had two choices for vegetarian. Hubby really enjoyed his bangers and mash. This pub has been our go-to for lunch for over twenty years now.

We enjoyed the ambiance of a small town pub with rich history and food items on the menu were good selection. Our choice for food were Pork Belly Burger with chips ($18) “was a really nice burger, thin pork belly on a brioche bun, apple sauce and coleslaw was delicious) and Bangers and Mash ($22.50) (buttermilk mash, peas, pork sausages and homemade gravy) was all delicious with reasonable prices for both. We liked the the old style church seatings, views of the Goal and walking distance to the motel and the Magpie Cafe. Service was friendly and all was happy. We would definitely be back!

We loved this place.
Best country pub I’ve been to in australia.
Log fire pumping away. Great food. Nice wine. Good cheeseboard.
Bloody Mary’s were incredible. Not too vicious like some of them come.
Plus it’s got a bit of history to it with a couple of prison cell rooms.

This country pub is located at 26 Old Hume Highway, Berrima.
For good food and beer in the area, this is the place to go. There's plenty of parking at the front.
They have daily meal specials and also cater for take-away. The service is friendly and the ambience is country.

I just had to write something about our wonderful experience last Sunday. It is just a lovely place with homely hospitality, the food was very good, the staff was the best part. Great culture and happy vide. The lady with the cool "smiley" face mask made our visit special. She will know who she is. Thank you.
S. V.
I had a big group booked in for the beer garden for the night before our wedding. Since it was raining, they made sure we got a cozy room, so we could all be together. The main lady who met us at the door and served us throughout was just lovely and made sure we had everything we needed to have a great night!
A. R.
Fantastic food and very friendly staff, stopping for a magnificent steak that melts in your mouth has become a tradition with every trip up the highway

Great historic inn. Great pub food and agreeable spot for an outdoor drink
P. G.
The Surveyor General Inn hosted our wedding reception on Saturday Dec 4th. I cannot put into words the love and thanks that we have for this venue, in particular after our third attempt to get married during the covid pandemic! We collected so much praise on the Inn’s behalf- many mentions of the “best pub in NSW” , what a “homely and warm vibe” the place had and what “wonderful and friendly staff” just to name a few. The pub ensured we had a wet weather plan indoors which we ended up using and it created such a warm lovely vibe. They allowed us to host our band and dj for the night. Special thanks to Peter and Caitlin for all the organisation and hard work behind the scenes. Would do it all over again in a heartbeat!! Definitely recommend it to those wanting a lovely, warm wedding xoxo 😘

Late 19th century. Good standard for pub food.
Comfortable and enjoyable.
There's plenty to do in Berrima but a meal stop here will not disappoint 😉
P. K.
On probably one of the coldest days of the year, we sat next to a lovely fire and had the best baked gnocchi and garlic bread. Bliss! The service is so very friendly in this gorgeous historic pub and we congratulated ourselves on being in such a lovely place, with such delicious food. Can’t wait to go back.
J. K.
Lovely old historic inn built in 1834 with a warm and cozy interior and plenty of outdoor seating for warmer days. It has old fashioned pub feel. The gnocchi dish was homemade, light and fluffy with a delicious sauce. I wish I had ordered it. The fish and chips were apparently delicious and crispy. I can honestly say the chips are excellent but I was terribly disappointed with the pork bun I ordered. It was one small slice of pork with a little coleslaw and apple sauce on a soft small brioche bun. Size wise it was ok for me but avoid if you have a large appetite. Hot drinks are limited and the bar selection basic. Staff seemed friendly. Probably closer to 4 ⭐️ than 3 so let’s say 3.5 ⭐️

My husband and I had a shared platter at lunch time and could not complain. Back for dinner and once again lovely. Steaks cooked the way we wanted them and the staff were lovely especially Keran. She went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. Nothing was to much of an effort for her.
S. H.
Perfect country pub, can take your dog into the front bar. Delicious menu
K. L.
A great pub in the heart of Berrima big roaring fire and great for a Sunday roast.
Does get very busy between 1230 and 2 so go for an early or late lunch a lot quieter..
The public bar next door is great for a beer..if your down this way do yourself a favour and pop in to this beautiful sandstone establishment.
B. M.
Great rustic pub and restaurant with friendly staff.
M. M.
Drove 30 minutes to have dinner here as I read the reviews. Food did not disappoint! My Husband and I really enjoyed both our meals- chicken schnitzel & bangers and mash. Good portions & the staff were really friendly too! We will definitely be back.
K. B.
Beautiful place for lunch and a drink. Highly recommended
N. M.
Such an awesome venue! Amazing food, amazing service. I even left my jacket behind and they were kind enough to mail it to me. I would definitely go back 👍🏻
S. N.
Traditional pub with traditional fare. Tasty bangers and mash and dessert was good as well. The portion sizes were a tad small though. There could have been more bread for the ploughman's lunch given it was a share plate.
I. 1.
The Surveyor General Inn is so, so awesome.
Afternoon drinks outside in the sun was spectacular, we then went inside for an absolutely top shelf dinner. Go as far as to say one of the best steaks I have had.
Garlic bread was beautiful and the staff we all great.
Could not recommend a night out here enough, do yourself a favour and have a night here!
L. B.
Outstanding food, and FYI not a criticism, a little on the high side of moderately priced. Situated in the Charming and historic community of Berrima. I will always remember this establishment as I stepped outside after dinner, I saw the Southern Cross for the first time.
S. P.
Claims to be the oldest working inn in NSW. Nice place to detour for a drink and some nice pub style food. Historic Berrima gaol sits next/behind it. Lots of lively little shops dotted on the main street. So if you a heading ACT way or up to Sydney, the Surveyor General is an enjoyable stop.
G. B.
The lady that served our food today was very friendly. During these times when we live in COVID situations, the food nourishes but it's the smiles that count the most. I also like the general ambience and the booths with benches like church pews. Maybe they were!
J. F.
We meet here annually for lunch with friends from Canberra. Always very well received. Staff and atmosphere very warm and friendly. Classic Pub menu but with some added flair. Highly recommended
G. B.
Servings could have been larger, but the quality was great
J. C.
Dropped in for lunch, friendly service...Bangers and Mash to die for and a very nice atmosphere
S. R.
Awesome atmosphere, ice cold beer, great food and very friendly staff
K. C.
Amazing food, great beer & part of Australias history being the longest continually licensed pub in the country. The fires roaring in winter to create a cozy atmosphere & opened right up during the warmer months... trivia night is good & has top quality live music. Great beer garden too
M. W.
A gorgeous and quaint pub, ideal for a quiet drink after a short walk along the river and a real history lesson complements of the information plaques. As for the inn, I do recommend you visit it ...
R. S.
OMG! You have to try the scotch fillet here. It is mouth watering tender. My wife and I would rate this as one of the top 3 steaks ever for us. The salmon fillet was also commendable, tender and juicy. The salads were full of flavour. Loved the crunchy pickled cucumber. The chips were thick and crunchy. The staff were all friendly as well. Just awesome.
(Pls note this is the same venue as Bistro 1834)
B. M.
We have been stopping at the Inn for several years on our trips in and out of Sydney. It's super convenient with small kids - they have great, fast pub meals and friendly staff. My most recent trip was actually last week, and my car broke down in the car park at 6pm. We were stranded - we have two kids under four, and I had suffered two fractured ribs and a shoulder blade in a bike accident a few days before and couldn't really move. One of the staff, Cory, set about helping us. He unpacked our car, got us food and helped us handle the tow trucks. When one of my family came to pick us up from Sydney, he ran out into the car park with a couple of beers and some beef jerky for our trip. How's that for service? We were already loyal customers of the Inn but this time they went above and beyond.
N. V.
The historic Surveyor General Inn in Berrima was established in 1834 and is Australia’s oldest continuously licensed Inn. It super adorable with a good selection of the usual pub food. It has indoor and outdoor dining / drinking options and follows all the covid protocols.
Good option when in Berrima.
M. D.
My partner and I absolutely loved our meals here at the inn. The staff were probably the nicest we've ever met and they even let our little dog Ollie come inside the bar for some steak and a drink !
J. O.
Comfortable environment, tasty meals, friendly staff.
T. S.
Great place to have a meal! Highly recommended.
Get on and try the great people and grub.
M. T.
Great place for a country pub meal. The food is really good, the staff friendly and they serve a few of the local brews.
My favorite is the Bangers and Mash! Add some horse radish cream, which the provide in abundance.
K. C.
Great Inn with amazing history. Staff were very friendly on arrival and throughout visit. Food was delicious. Would definitely visit again and highly recommend to family and friends.
M. C.
Fantastic big meals at excellent prices! The staff are lovely and very accommodating (especially being a new mum with a pram!). The weekend bands are always great and we often find ourselves having Sunday lunch down there simply because it’s an amazing atmosphere. Highly recommend! Well done Pete & family. Great local pub that is an asset to our community.
A. M.
Beautiful Old Pub.
Lovely staff. Good food.
Great place to go.
A. W.
I never write reviews, but just had an absolutely amazing dinner here ( Waygu steak and lamb shanks followed by yummy banoffee pie!) but what made it truely extraordinary was the conversation and hospitality of Karen! So nice to escape the city and meet such lovely people. Will be back for sure. Ash and John.
J. R.
Had lovely lunch today in the garden area with nice shady trees. Friendly fast service. Delicious hamburger for my husband and I had very nice chicken breast burger both served with great chips. Nice peaceful atmosphere
A. L.
We booked table for ten ,we had the choice of inside or outside ... We choose indoors ,we more or less had a room to ourselves ... Good job we talked and laughed that much .... Food was very tasty and looked good most of the table had bangers and mash ,thought I was back in the UK bangers ,mash and mushy peas ...fish and chips what more could you wish for ....sticky date pudding with cinnamon ice cream ... Staff were very friendly and helpful 😊

A terrigic historic hotel with big bistro in Berima. The building is built from sandstone blocks and renovated with hand made bricks at some stage.
Unique because of its age.
R. M.
Great little spot, just off the highway. Excellent food with vego options, super friendly service. Perfect to break up the long drive
D. W.
We've been there a few times and always found it to a nice place for a drink and something to eat. The pub has a good menu and can get busy for lunches on Saturday and Sunday and dogs are allowed in the front bar area overall a nice country pub.
K. M.
Great staff, food and atmosphere. I love this place with the atmosphere it brings. Stop in and have a look around you won't be disappointed with this historic pub. Thanks for the hospitality guys, keep up the good work.
M. E.
Delicious food, great service, portion a little small. Definitely will be back
S. H.
Reasonable prices and decent pub food
A. C.
Beautiful old Inn located in the heart of Berrima. Oldest licensed Inn in Australia. The architecture is beautiful and the exposed brick and sandstone transport you to a different time in Australian history. The food in the restaurant is classic pub food and couldn't be faulted. The customer service was delightful and were made to feel like we were at home.
E. H.
We had very nice pub meals, they were very happy to cater to our specific dietary requirements and even modify meals from the menu to suit us. We also had very nice glass of wine and cider from the bar. The service is exceptionally friendly, and the pub & bistro had a certain amount of charm - I loved the old photos and memorabilia from olden times, especially reading about bushranger Ben Hall who frequented those parts nany years ago.
J. V.
Gorgeous little place ♡
We run ghost hunts and tours at the courthouse and the GS Inn is always our chosen place of dinner before events. The chips are amazing, the staff are friendly and the Salt and Pepper Squid is so yum!
The ONLY downside is that there is pretty much no options available for vegetarians besides just chips, a plate of salad or a plate of boiled and roasted vegetables.
B. H.
Traditional pub food and still one of the better pubs around. Parking is a problem as always
But that is almost part of the charm
K. F.
great pub and really friendly
K. H.
Very very good pub food. Easy friendly service. The banoffee pie was one of the best desserts I've had in years. This is a must visit when in Berrima
D. P.
Great pub with live entertainment. Nicely refurbished but maintains historic charm.
A. O.
There is a lot to say about this place. Firstly there are significant historical reasons to go see this pub. Walking through pub and reading the descriptions of old paintings and photographs made me feel like i was really stepping back to the eighteen hundreds, pictures and blurb of the capture of Ned kelly, a great painting of Major Thomas Mitchell who was the 'Surveyor General' in NSW from 1828 till 1855. Then there are some wall cabinets with some great authentic artifacts which make you respect the pioneering spirit of the people of that time. FACILITIES. The pub has accommodation, great food, pool table, excellent outdoor shaded areas and of course you can order a drink at the bar of pretty much anything. FOOD I had the Duck Confit with poached pears, potatoes and radicchio followed with a Rhubarb and Apple Crumble with Walnuts and Ice cream. The duck was very tender bursting with flavor, add the flavor of pears and wow! what a dish. This is a great place for the family or couple wanting to have their own intimate space to chat and dine. STAFF. Staff are ALL friendly and sincere, offering quick service and attention to your needs.
D. A.
A beautiful pub rich with history. Plenty of interesting spaces to eat and drink, inside and out.
Mains are simple but satisfying and range from $20-$30.
A less than satisfactory grilled chicken dropped this icon from a 5 star.
Still worth the return!
F. D.
Super huge schnitzels and warm cozy atmosphere. Pricey but the portions are very large country servings! Great family atmosphere in historic pub.
N. S.
Simple pub food with a decent selection of beers and wines. A large outdoor seating area is good to enjoy the fresh country air of the oldest continuous operating inn/pub in NSW. Not too far from the Don Bradman museum for cricket buffs. And close to various trails to go off to see some local wildlife including Platypus and Kangaroos.
P. Y.
Good pub food. Sad about the two families who had no control of their unruly screaming children. The staff were very obliging about shifting us away from them.
t. b.
Nice historic setting with quality food. Some of the best hot chips I've ever had. The Wagyu was good too
M. H.
A very comfortable country pub with friendly staff and a tasty menu.

E. B.
Such a lovely place. Would recommend the food and atmosphere 😊
Y. P.
Favourite pub in the area because of the new chef Alex Watts and a cosy atmosphere. Everyone had incredible meals there and its kid friendly.
C. P.
Great little pub with a proper old school feel, real fireplace and a very popular restaurant. Berrima is a lovely spot and well worth the stop for a quick bite or a coll beer
G. C.
A great spot for a meal but they no longer have the "cook your own" grill. That was a major reason for our patronage in the past but despite that food is still good and definitely worth a visit..
a.
Food was fairly expensive but very good. Biggest gripe was how bloody cold it was! They had a bunch gas heaters around but they hadn't been on long enough to heat the rooms up.
E. K.
Great food, great atmosphere and great music.
F. M.
This place was pretty great. We ate with a larger group and food was decently priced, tasted great, and came out in a reasonable time given how busy the restaurant was.
E. E.
Ok pub fare. Not clear that they had any gluten free options. Great to walk through the old pub, just a shame that the tables are out the back in a newer area.
C. P.
Great place to stop on a long journey. Decent wholesome food. Simple menu but all the good old favourites. Lovely staff & service.
A. B.
Nice old pub. Standard pub food generally, but the Milo tart was a stand out!
L. T.
Walked in to have some lunch and some beers. Food was excellent, on the pricey side a bit but worth the money. Service was very friendly, warm but busy atmosphere.
B. A.
Good service, excellent food & friendly service. All with a warming fire.
P. I.
Food is simple but delicious. Quality ingredients cooked well. A bit noisy at lunch, other patrons preferring to yell at each other rather than talk.
C. L.
Great venue, lovely and friendly staff, simple but tasty and inexpensive food! The Chocolate dessert was heavenly! Great atmosphere as well...Thank you! :)

The stars are for the nice warm and comfortable atmosphere. The $15 chicken and vegetable soup was tasteless and consisted primarily of pasta. Give the soup a miss.

Great place to catch up with friends. Great service.
M. L.
My small group tour stopped for dinner on 5 November 2018 and were welcomed as if we were local friends. We were treated with warmth and had fine meals. The staff was ready to answer any question about the establishment, the cusine and the local area. As I was not familiar with the local brews, I asked for something "hoppy" and the barman suggesset two draft beers, pouring a sample of each. I taste tested and found one to my likeing. Another member of my tour later was given a chance to taste test a flight of five beers before selecting his favorite. The steak was cooked to perfection and never did I feel rushed or processed while enjoying a great atmosphere.

Had the chicken parmigiana here for lunch and it was absolutely delicious. Fresh ingredients and cooked perfectly. Atmosphere is welcoming and so much history at the inn. To top it off, the staff were warm, friendly and accomodating. Anyone who passes through Berrima must visit this place!
