Comments of Citi Zen Restaurant
N. L.
Best Dim Sum place in Adelaide. Loved the food served on carts, just like the old times. Loved the dessert food cart. The pace was good and so many different choices!
FIVE STAR: food, service and dinng experience (spacious seating, feels comfortable)
K. O.
Yum Cha was lovely for meat eaters. They said the food was amazing! Selection was fantastic.
I let them know I was vegan but no one knew upon arrival and then by the time I got my food an hour+ passed and I was eating alone. Only 4 options available too.
D. &. L.
Having never experienced Yum Cha dining before, an invitation to join friends and family for Chinese New Years was an offer to good to turn down.
The food was fast, fresh and satisfying. Copious plates of food and array of options had my eyes darting about as the lazy-susan spun like a top, as everyone fought for their favourite dishes.
Judging by the full dining room and happy faces, I have been missing out.
Only criticism was that they had no gluten free options for those like my wife who are Coeliac.
J. R.
Nice and accommodating staff especially the servers. Did not wait long to serve our food. Foods nice but taste not freshly cooked sort of it was just reheated.
A. W.
Fantastic decor and excellent menu with traditional and modern choices. Friendly, attentive staff make you feel very welcome here. Photos are ‘Salt and Pepper Lobster’ and ‘Mango Pudding’ (selected by everyone in our group).
K. T. F. B.
Nice food, but our table didn't get too much attention (food cart) when we came for all you can eat Yumcha, had to stand up and wave to the waiters to get them to come over..
劉. P. L.
Food are good, even though they can do better. Not a complaint. The staffs are helpful without giving an sense of been left out. Keep it up!!!
C. K.
This used to be a fantastic place for weekend yum cha. However, the last three visits this year with family and friends were a bit of a letdown. It took really long time to eat what we actually came for - various types of dumpings. Instead, there were other, mostly fried dishes and deserts that were circulating around. I took some kundlu made requests and over an hour to get to the deliscious dumplings, which were great :-)
H. S.
Very friendly staffs! Great hospitality! Food is good!
A. D.
Decor is looking abit tired but has still managed to keep abit of a classy atmosphere, although I did get a photo of the wallpaper starting to peel which was right above where we were sitting so not a very professional look. I dont think i could come up with anything to complain about with the food, it was all very tasty and the steamed oysters were awesome. I did find some of the staff to be abit rude but i think maybe that was because they didn't speak very good english but at the same time why should I be made to feel uncomfortable in my own country whilst paying them for a meal. Go figure😠

Came here on a wednesday morning for all you can eat dimsum buffet. Despite the several bad reviews listed here, I'd say that I had an overall good experience with the buffet and the food quality is pretty on par with other reputable dimsum restaurants in the city. Service did get a little slow after more people came in, but it was understandable
E. H.
We went for the all you can eat yum cha. Very good food, and fantastically attentive service.
N. C.
The quality of the food was fine, and the quantity is enough. However, the price was actually too high. There are still other options for yum cha restaurant in Adelaide.
Yum cha (simplified Chinese: 饮茶; traditional Chinese: 飲茶; pinyin: yǐn chá[1]; Jyutping: jam2 caa4; Cantonese Yale: yám chà; lit. "drink tea"), also known as going for dim sum, is the Cantonese tradition of brunch involving Chinese tea and dim sum. The practice is popular in Cantonese-speaking regions, including Guangdong, Guangxi, Hong Kong, and Macau. It is also carried out in other regions worldwide where there are overseas Chinese communities, like Vietnam and the United States.
Yum cha generally involves small portions of steamed, pan-fried, and deep-fried dim sum dishes served in bamboo steamers, which are designed to be eaten communally and washed down with tea.[2] People often go to yum cha in large groups for family get-togethers or celebrations.
Yum cha in the Chinese language, both literary and vernacular, literally means "drink tea". This character (飲) means "drink". This character (茶) means "tea". The phrase dim sum is sometimes used in place of yum cha. Dim sum is the English word based on a Cantonese pronunciation of 點心. In colloquial Mandarin dialects and Standard Vernacular Chinese based on one form of colloquial Mandarin, this character (喝) is often used to mean 飲 for the verb "drink". In the Chinese language, 點心 refers to a variety of foods, including European-style cakes and pastries, and has no equivalent in English. In the English language, dim sum refers to the small-dish appetizers and desserts in Chinese, especially Cantonese, cuisine, whereas yum cha refers to the act of having a meal typically involving such dishes.

The peeking duck is delicious. Juicy and really crispy skin. The service is a bit rough. Don't really like having chop sticks, cups, and plates thrown at me. Prices are reasonable for what you get. All in all, I'd go again.
K. F.
We had a lovely dinner.
Everyone was so polite and thoughtful.
Great experience
Thank you
M. R.
If they use lesser canned food at times in thier menues will be better as canned can not be as fresh they know
S. D.
Wonderful food, beautifully prepared and presented and not too expensive
J. B.
Decent yum cha but could have had more options as we couldn't order anything just what people were walking around with. Might have just been the day I went. Would try it again though.
M. B.
Good food, well priced. Friendly service and have a big enough space to book out for small company functions.
B. T.
Delicious dim sum and Cantonese dishes served here. Good service.
D. H.
Exceptional service, very good food. Overall great experience. Wait staff were always available and helpful. Food was brought out in good time.
R. M.
Tasty variety in sumptuous yet economic banquet. Reastaurant is "conversation-able" which so many eateries cannot claim. Therefore, lingered longer. Inobtrusive service by considerate staff. Most pleasant experience!
M. C.
Upmarket yum cha experience. Avoids the frenzy of Gouger street. Parking is relatively easy on weekends. In a pub no less! Good variety of well known dishes with a few new ones.
S. C.
Food and service are good. Staff is very helpful.
J. R.
Excellent food every time, especially Peking duck.
D. P.
Love this place Fantastic food and good prices
W. W.
Have to say the best yum-cha in town(Adelaide). Can't compare with Guangzhou, China those original, high quality n classic Cantonese yum-cha(which shouldn't cause so far apart). Price Is reasonable. Weekend car parks all around. Worth a family or friends trip!
J. H.
Gorgeous dumplings, amazing crispy duck with pancakes, very efficient service and hilarious sounding karaoke from the back room. Loved it. They should do a food deal in combo with the hotels they own...Adabco and Mayfair. Missing a trick there!
L. F. Y.
The best thing about this restaurant is that it is spacious and tables spaces comfortably far apart.
Worst thing is the customer service. Waiting staff are overworked, and the boss lady (?) at checkout will not accept entertainment card on a day that was not a public holiday. It was Chinese New Year Eve, and she said that's counted as public holiday. This is against the terms and conditions.
The food is very average for a Chinese dinner and ok for yum cha lunch, not the best in Adelaide.
H. C.
Beautiful food for 5 great friends and excellent service. I was very glad I chose Citi Zen for our overseas visitors
L. L.
Decor is superb. Definitely stars rated. Food selection is good but the Culinary art and combination of favour requires to work on in improving. Not unique enough. Hope to see better.
L. M.
Very good Chinese restaurant, I would suggest the duck. It is excellent.
G. A.
Excellent food that had us leaving perfectly satisfied! The staff were brilliant and handled all of our requests commendably. Every one of our staff thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Highly recommended.
V. P.
The food and service is always excellent.
R. L.
Clean, professional and quiet. Great Sunday Yum Cha
M. L. H.
Best place for Peking duck that I've found in Adelaide.
J.
Friendly service and good quality food even on Mother's day.
h. w.
Fabulous quality food , service and value. Very large dining area with plenty of seating for small or large groups. Although it is very clean and well appointed it doesn't have the intimate atmosphere of some restaurants. Would go back though purely for the food of which there is a very large selection all of which sound so tempting. 😊
T. D.
Good yum cha place. Service is quite slow though.
A. M.
We had nice time. Great services.
G. W.
Very elegant. Great menu, especially when you order from the back of the menu. We had a party of 8. Dishes were ordered from the slightly more western front of the menu and from the more traditional back of the menu. A brilliant meal was enjoyed by all. Oh! The soft shelled crab was perfect.
F. S.
Expensive, but the best Chinese I've ever had and very attentive staff. Yummy. Soft Shell Crab unbelievable.
D. M. (.
Been here a few times and will always go back. Service is good. Favoirites are the Chinese donuts (rice noodle rolls), crispy BBQ pork buns, fried pork dumplings and steamed prawn dumplings. Not so great is the crispy squid(can be tough).
S. W.
Beautiful food. Over the years that we have been going, the decor has not changed so is now beginning to look tired and worn.
Our order was taken promptly and our meals served within an acceptable time however, once we had finished our mains, although staff smiled at us, they never came to our table to offer desserts or coffee or any further beverages. Disappointing to say the least.
y. N.
Very good decor. Most dishes are good but I have had better and in my opinion it is a little overpriced but you pay for the surroundings. Not impressed with the $40 banquet. Their yum cha is good but once again more expensive than others.
R. N.
I’m comparing this to other Chinese food in order to be fair. It isn’t quite my favourite cuisine but it was done well, with a bit of zing and/or spice to each dish. They used decent quality meat and didn’t skimp on ingredients. They had an extensive menu and some great appetizers. One negative was the serving staff were somewhat hopeless, lucky the kitchen staff made the right food, but the people who brought it out couldn’t tell us what the food was haha, so the lady who took our orders had to come out and yell at them. Whoops. I loved my food though and omg those buns were amazing. Really big tables in a private room, good for events etc..
P. P.
Amazing Mongolian Beef as main meal.5 stars for that alone. Relaxed atmosphere, friendly and welcoming staff
R. L.
Yum cha/ dim sum service is great but the food is average compared to competitors. Nothing too special. The environment and atmosphere is great plenty of seating.
S. R.
Great food amazing atmosphere for a lunch or dinner. The staff were awesome and attentive. Priced exactly how it should. Good drink selection. If you like yum cha then this is the best in Adelaide. A must of any fan of good food
C. H.
Ordered the spicy lobster $60. 12 or so small chopped pieces fried with the shell still on. It was tough to chew and difficult to remove the small amounts of meat. Other dishes are nice, but I would not order this dish again.
R. R.
Very good Chinese food, the oysters were awesome, as was the salt and pepper king prawns. The beef in Chinese vinegar was excellent. There were enough vegetarian choices as well. portions are large, each dish good for 2 people, so order on sharing basis.
L. l.
In my opinion this is the best yum cha restaurant in Adelaide, staff is super helpful and friendly, variety of food here, worth to give it a try. Highly recommened. 😁
D. L.
Very good food at this place. One of the best place in Melbourne, very nice services as well.
K. D.
Citizen Restaurant is a wonderful place to enjoy good Chinese cuisine. During the week you can order off the menu and on Sunday it's Yumcha time. The food is always fresh and tasty and the staff are lovely. My particular favorites are the dumplings (yum). Enjoy.
D. S. A.
For those who are familiar with the concept of waiters offering dishes before the customers before dlthe customer decides what they want, I'd say this is pretty lacklustre in terms of the number of eating staff available. Service could make do with improvements in awareness of waiting staff of patrons and must do for each table when seated.
Went in as a pair of customer, didn't get as much attention as I would like in terms of getting the setup of the table such as tea and condiments. It took up to three waiters to get all these.
Food carts don't approach us as the table gaps are not optimal and only a handful of waiters coming out of the kitchen with dishes offered us anything.
Only after having about seven dishes after half an hour that a waiter offered to get us a menu list, which before this we had to use our own knowledge of dishes available and whatever dish that waiters push out from the kitchen. I even mentioned to a waiter that I would like to order more food seeing that food aren't getting pushed out in front of us, I wouldn't know what is available to order, and I don't know there is actually a menu (order list). Even then we had to wait for another 10 minutes to find out one of the items we ordered aren't available. It took another 15 minutes waiting for the rest of the order, as we are ready to leave at this point we asked to cancel the order and the waiter told us that we can't since it's already been prepared. It took another 10 minutes to get an item to our table.
L. V.
Had dinner on a Tuesday night and couldn't fault the service or food. Prices are a tad higher than other Chinese restaurants in town, but the setting is more appealing. Really enjoyed the spicy eggplant hotpot and fried stuffed tofu!
F. R.
Food was really tasty but service could do with some improvement. As we had a big group we were told we can only do share. That was fine and but I asked about paying separately for it I was told "just remember what you order and pay for that". That sounds good but when we went and paid, we were told "Sorry no split bill" ummm HANG ON, you told me we could at the start??? He said "oh no, i meant with cash".. Who on earth in the day and age, especially with Covid carries that much cash!! So be aware.. they dont do split bill even though we live in a technological world!! Get in the 21st century!!!!!
D. C.
The restaurant is divided into 2 sections. The right section is bigger and nicer with an oriental style "chandelier". We had 8 dishes and most of them have sufficient serving size and taste pretty good but won't make me go "wow" for sure...
A. L.
Frequent the restaurant and good food overall. As we usually just pay when given a total, please do check the bill and calculations when paying at this restaurant. The sub-total for each categories were exactly as we ordered, however the total amount worked out to be more than what we were needed to pay. Happened a few times and we were promptly given a refund today when we walked back in to clarify. The cashier confirmed that they do not add service charge on top of the order and the calculator is at fault, apparently.

We've loved yum cha at Citi Zen for quite some time but recently they added an all you can eat option - this could be dangerous. We took full advantage of this and everything was terrific. My only concern is my ever expanding waist.
T. Y.
Hard to say this isn't the best chinese food in SA/Adelaide. Great location in historic building, reasonable prices and amazingly fresh selection of seafood. The most impressive is the vast wine cellar - a rarity amongst Chinese restaurants. Service is better than most and staff are friendly.
A. M.
Amazing dining experience. Great atmosphere, staff and food. Superb wine list 🍷. Can't wait for our next visit ☺️
V. Y.
Citi Zen offers traditional and authentic Chinese cuisine in a very comfortable setting. Honestly one of the best places for yum cha. It's not easy finding a restaurant with good dim sums of high quality (none of those unrefined dim sums you get at a lot of other places). Highly recommend!
D. H.
The food was tasty, but could have been more generous for the price. Perhaps we got there on a difficult night because service seemed quite slow and disorganised. We were a group of 6 having a banquet and at one point we were brought 2 plates with 2 spring rolls on each. It took some time to get anyone's attention to let them know we had been brought someone else's dish.
S. C.
We had a great time here, a little bit fancier than some of the places in China town but the food was amazing and the service was excellent! Would highly recommended this place to any one. Do yourself a favor and get the Peking Duck it is delicious.
N. Y.
Visited the restaurant earlier this month during my Australian vacation and was extremely impressed with the quality of the food! Did not expect this at all, coming from Toronto where our dim sum scene is strong. Thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes, even had dinner there and the Peking Duck and Lobster Yi Mein were delicious!
T. O.
Amazing food that is very authentic and of the highest quality. This restaurant is supported by a friendly team who provide great customer service. I feel this would have to be the best Chinese restaurant in Adelaide. Thank you Citi Zen Restaurant!
T. L.
One of the Best yum cha in Adelaide. Yum cha food and desserts brought out with trolleys. Great variety to choose from. Large restaurant.
A. K.
Wonderful service and nice food. My friend accidentally ordered a fried rice with ham (which he cannot eat) and the staff were generous in swapping it for a fried rice without it. The ambiance is also very pleasant. Will go back.
M. E.
Always a good feed offered here, great yum cha on Sunday lunches. My kids go all out no holding back which is unusual as they eat like mice everywhere else but not here. Try you won't be disappointed...
M. M. L.
Food is consistently of a high standard, even after 6 years of eating there. A proper disciplined Chinese kitchen with good quality ingredients.
Yum Cha is simply the best in town.
I. A.
I’m biased. I love this place. The service is not a 5 Star but the food is so it’s still received a 5 overall. Not the cheapest Chinese but some of the best in Adelaide with a cracker selection. Tried the soft shell crab there for the first time the other night. Superb
A. F.
Citi Zen service was very good at the outset but the follow-up was lacking - too many customers and not enough staff. I personally thought the food was very bland (lobster, chicken, beef, salads and desert.) I was expecting a lively flavourful experience, but got a very ho-hum dinner. I ate with other Chinese guests and they thought the food was average too. Not on my return list!
C. C.
It is our favourite place for dim sum. Awesome selection, helpful and courteous staff. Spacious venue, which isn't too noisy. It is a little costlier than other dim sum places but we are willing to pay that difference for the superb quality of the food and excellent service.
K. T.
Beautiful food, very fast service, however a little expensive. Staff seemed nice too, however language barrier so didn't speak much.
A. D. I. F.
To start off with the restaurant lacked service for its size. I often found myself waiting around for someone to get me a drink, time after time. Additionally, the banquet was not proportional to the amount of people we had at our table. Though the food was good, many of us went home hungry that night. If you are going to be eating at this place, I recommend that everyone on your table order a plate and put it in the center to share. Also, order an bunch entrées to start of with. By doing it this way you are getting more food and variety for the price. Yet, I doubt it that you will go home hungry like I did.
F. K.
Nice food and excellent services. Lobster is one of my favourite here together with the nice wine. Highly recommended and will certainly revisit next time.
A. P.
Very good food, it went above all my expectations! The food also came out very quickly! I attended a wedding reception here and I was thoroughly impressed, I would definitely recommend!
J. B.
Had a family gathering - banquet. Plenty of fantastic food. Good atmosphere, not too noisy and very helpful, friendly staff made for a really enjoyable evening.
W.
Highly recommended! This is one of my two favourite Cantonese places to eat in Adelaide. Looks expensive but truly reasonable. A la carte food is great and dimsum or yum cha is excellent! BBQ pork buns are the best in Adelaide and quite close to what you'll get in Hongkong. If you don't like the buns here, trust me, its not the buns thats the problem.
S. D.
A bit overpriced and the quality of food wasn't anything special.
Also - the trouble we had trying to pay separately shouldn't be an issue in today's day and age, especially when you're paying for an $850 banquet... do they really expect one person to be footing that bill?
We got there in the end, but the battle was frustrating.
J. F.
absolutely delicious! the staff are lovely and its such a great atmosphere. soft shell crab is delicious! would definitely recommend citi zen and will be back very soon !!
g. b.
Chicken sweet corn soup was bland. Waitress dropped food on the table did not say anything and left. Had to ask twice for a drink. Table water was warm. Definitely not on there A game tonight. Very Dissapointing
L. F.
Up market ambience, reasonable price, great wine selection. However, food and service standard can be up and down from time to time.
D. C. (.

J. K.
Great food, very good service. The garlic pepper beef was one of the best Chinese dishes I’ve ever had. San Choi bow was very good also. Good atmosphere. Overall great restaurant 👍🏻😁
S. C.
Best steamed dim sims in Adelaide. Ask for the salt and pepper steak, absolutely delicious. Beautiful location and great staff.
J. T.
Food and service has been exceptional the two times we have been there. Duck and barramundi is our favourite dishes.
J.
The place is very beautiful, the attention is good and friendly, the food is very good 👍🏻
G. A.
Had yum cha on a Sunday. All pretty good. Some might say it was a bit stodgy but probably what you would expect.
Service was good but it was quite.
S. S.
Visit Adelaide for my wife's 60th Birthday and taken out to Citi Zen Restaurant. Service upon entry was courteous and plesant. Auriel the waitress served our meals was friendly. We had a three course meal with soup, spring rolls and for mains we had chicken and cashews and beef sizzling which all meals were all fantastic. Highly recommend Citi Zen Restaurant anyone visiting Adelaide you wont be disappointed. Steven and Patricia Melbourne Victoria

This is about the Yum Cha (I've reviewed the main menu here before: 'turn to the back pages of the menu for the good stuff'.)
I'm calling this the best Yum Cha in Adelaide: I'm not a fan of Ding Hao and Star House - they are like factories and the food lacks finesse. T-Chow used to be elegant but recently it seems to be losing the plot.
Citi Zen offers an amazing selection of dian xin, and you'll never manage to taste them all: at least two types of tripe; stuffed eggplant with Bonito flakes (worth the trip to Adelaide on its own); sticky rice dim sum (you won't see that in many places around the world); a mixed seafood open dumpling with roe (stunning flavours); even the pork dumplings, standard fare, are deliciously meaty and savoury.
Fried fish cakes, fried prawn cakes, green beans with garlic (cold, sweet and crunchy), radish fried with omelette, spinach dumplings, all the usual suspects, and a host more.
Good tea, too: ask for the pu er.
Only gripes - no obvious on-line booking facility, and you need to book unless you arrive early; and some of the dim sum stick tenaciously to the paper doily. First world problems.
A. S.
Fantastic food. Most staff are good. Some are brilliant. Definitely worth going though. Peking Duck is very good.
E. M.
Excellent food and great service
A. C.
Gotta try the duck, simply amazing!

A. L.
Fabulous food, unfortunately some was cold, service has gone down since last i was there
F. A.
Can't fault the food or the service. Salt and Pepper Crab was the standout dish tonight though.

Nice place for Yam Cha. The price is acceptable. For the food, I can make a long must-try list. The chicken feet is best option for the girls. Just have a try.
V. S.
Great Yum Cha. The waiters seem a bit confused at times, which can lead to delays, but the food itself is very good.

Went for yum cha but limited offerings...mainly dumplings and rolls and buns. Pretty dissapointed compared to previous visits.
M. C.
Best Chinese restaurant in Adelaide, tasty food especially the fantastic lobster, elegant atmosphere with good service, must visit when in Adelaide

You need to change the cords on the urinal
And have an antiseptic soap. I neither touched the cord, taps to wash my hands or the door handle to exit
D. S.
Good service, tasty food and reasonable prices. We've been there for several years.
C. W.

Very spacious and nice décor but there are better Yum Chai places even in Adelaide!

Excellent service, delicious and authentic food. Peking duck and crispy fried chicken are recommended.
