Comments of Hawker Walker
A. T.
This was our third visit to Hawker Walker, but first after pandemic, definitely the quality has dropped, and service quality has also dropped. Overall, suggest only the kueh tiaw. It was definitely better couple of years ago. Otherwise go to Nan Yang or Warong, all nearby.
3 staff only - 1 chef, 1 serve rice, and prep meat and 1 cashier. There were 3 to 4 tables with plates left on table. No place to sit. The cashier desk is messy. Not sure understaffed or just not attentive.
Ordered nasi lemak with chicken wings. Rice is normal rice, not cooked with coconut milk. 3 thinly sliced cucumbers, and sambal is also 1 tea spoon for the amount of rice. Chicken wings are nice. Cost of the dish is around $15. Please do not get this dish, unless they changed or improve the quality.
Kueh Tiaw was nice, just as nice as I had it couple of years back. Taste as authentic. It has fish paste, prawns, chicken. Cost of the dish is also around $15. Highly recommended.
A guy came in after us around 2pm, ordered hainanese chicken rice, was informed sold out. Please come early if you want it.

I love this place! 😍 Do yourself a favor and try out the chicken rice! It taste 100% Authentic. One of the best chicken rice I've tasted so far and the serving is quite big. Will order again. Yummm!!! 😍😍😍😍

Service can be a hit and miss. 2 out of 4 times I have visited turned out to be an inconvenient experience. One time the server mixed up our order and served it to wrong table. Most recently when I ordered, I had to wait almost 40 minutes to be served a lacklustre lunch due to their machine being incompetent. The server asked me after 35minutes if I was waiting for a friend, I was waiting for my food. She forgot and the machine did too, the machine didn't send the order to the kitchen. I was given a complimentary drink.

The roast pork is crispy and delicious, the BBQ pork is sweet but not greasy, the Hainan chicken rice is very tender, and the plum soup is delicious, which is highly recommended.
The food is excellent and delicious, the decoration is gorgeous, the music is good, highly recommended
B.
Great lunch spot close to Rundle Mall.
The Hokkien Mee and Char Kway Two are delicious 🤤
Also tried the roast meat with tossed noodles which was really nice too.

Laksa was good, except it would have been better with a different type of noodle. This one’s were too plain and not absorbing much of the brothy flavours. Soy bean milk was very good, very earthy and rustic. Giving that the restaurant is located next to the library, I would assume that students are their main customers. But the price isn’t student friendly at all. That is my only complain.
橘.
Decent price with decent meal. Feel super full after finish meal. Sour palm juice is good. But a little bit sweet. They have quick food service and friendly attitude.
Staff:English, Kangtongness, mandarin are all available.
Menu:They only have English menu.
Overall, it’s a great experience and highly recommended!
S. C.
Delicious food! Service was quick and friendly! Would definitely return!
Bought 2 more serves of their Yong tai fu!
J. N.
Nice flavour and the egg is fried so well. Kind ataff and atmosphere. It is little bit disappointing that the noodle is instant noodle, would be great if other noodles are used instead.

Food was nice but I feel like portions have gotten smaller over time... they also don’t serve table water (minor thing, I know, but makes a big difference to me). For the price of the dishes I won’t be returning as there are other Malaysian food places in town where I can get more for the same value.

How to find it: Located in the alley between Grenfell St and Rundle Mall.
Or behind the apple store. If you're coming from Gawler place end, walk through the smoke mart arcade, go straight out to the other end and you'll see an alley way that leads you to the mall. There's the library in that alleyway and there you’ll find Hawker Walker next to it.
Menu offers Malaysian hawker dishes - is a limited and simple menu but the meals are tasty and good servings for price.
The Yang Tau Fu is a must try! The plum drink is refreshing.
Staff are polite.
No restrooms.

Nice food with chill drinks, really good. Sour plum juice bit too sweet, ice lemon tea better. Definitely recommended.

Foods are great, affordable and fantastic.
However, the cashier should be aware of the difference between the low context culture and the high context culture.
Low context culture is much relying on verbal communication such as English, French, German compare with the high context culture. Conversely, high context cultures such as Chinese, Korean and Japanese prefer facial expressions.
In my case, I feel confused when I want to order. As the cashier just staring at me without any communication until I ask.
I am an Asian, but it doesn't mean I can understand all the facial expressions from another Asian.
As an international student, I experience the transition from low context culture and high context culture every day in Adelaide. Sometimes, my Aussie mates can’t understand my feelings if I am lazy to verbally express them.
I just want to say better communication will be helpful in every careers and fields.

Very tasty Hainan chicken, rice is cooked with chicken broth comes with chilli ginger sauce. Recommended dish to try.

Great food, been here a number of times and the flavours are spot on. Wouldn't call this place the cheapest but it's got a nice vibe and great place for a work lunch.
E. M.
Pitty, the menu sounded good but both my and my companions rice was dry and under cooked. Not what I'd expect from an Asian restaurant.
C. L.
Good lunch place with a reasonable price. Vegetarian option is very good. Drinks are also also good but I am a little reluctant to buy them served in single use plastic cups.

In a few words, Hawker Walker offers a rare authentic Malaysian Hawker style cuisine experience in Adelaide. The deco is simple, hygienic environment and, they affordable pricing for their dishes. They specialise in a dish called Yong Tau Foo (mixed veges) and they certainly deliver a flavoursome-authentic punch!

I arrived, ordered what I want, delivered the food with no delay, delicious food.

Absolutely delicious and best place to eat authentic Asian food in Rundle Mall. Located down an alley near Apple Store / City Library.
S. G.
Fantastic service and the food is authentic and awesome. Suits people from all ages. We often comes with whole family. Scott from Scott Goh Photography

Great Little Place, tucked away from the busy rundle mall next to the Adelaide city library, closest address I could find is 77 Francis Street, Adelaide SA 5000. Would highly recommend, good price, amazing food, ample seating.
R. Y.
Decent food, good lunch time option
K. C.
Fried rice was fantastic. Fair price and neat environment. 👍

Had a real craving for Yong tau foo and we knew this place specialises in it. It wasn't bad, but sorry it doesn't compare to Chef Lai (which was normally our place of choice but unfoetunately is now closed down).
The yong tau foo lacked the chewiness which comes with using real fish to make
E. Y.
Pretty good but the food still have a bit of skew to its consistency and authenticity.
C. L.
Super delicious authentic Malaysian food! There are not many authentic south east Asian restaurants around in Adelaide so it is refreshing to find one in the heart of city with good price. Highly recommend the Yong Tou Fu! Will definitely visit again
A. N.
Ordered the singapore laksa, it tastes good but not great. The price was reasonable and staff were very friendly.
C. L.
Had Sarawak laksa, requested for sambal and lime but was told they do not serve that with it. Disappointed, that's falling short of authenticity.
E. A.
Slightly disappointed with the portion of our char kuey teow, the tables next to us were getting a nice decent plate, whereas ours was so little. A bit inconsistent with their serving. Service was also a bit slow. 3 of us have already finished our meals, but our friend was still waiting for his nasi lemak.
I. M.
Great little place down side street of rundle mall. Tried most of the dishes there. It's nice. Clean and stylish. Can work on flavours a bit more.
E. C.
Fantastic place to dine!! Great varieties of very authentic Asian food. Highly recommended!
H. C.
Perhaps it's my taste n expectation of laksa n Yong tau fu, not quite my taste. Also a bit on the oily side.
K. P.
Affordable nice asian food.
T. L.
Delicious and authentic Malaysian cuisine, casual relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend
E. H.
Laksa soup was watery while the yong tou foo seems to have shrunk further.
S. H.
Food is nice. Dont order from there if you're in a rush. 25 min wait for takeaway
T. T.
Try the chicken rice! Green sauce is delicious!
Only problem is that sometimes they close earlier than usual 😢
K. A.
The Nasi lemak with Sambal prawns is sensational.
L. C.
