Comments of Shobosho
M.
We dined in on Easter Monday after making a booking online. We needed to make a last minute adjustment on the time and number of diners, and they were very helpful in accommodating our request.
The food was amazing at Shobosho! Simple and quality ingredients turned into uniquely scrumptious dishes. Everything we ordered here had amazing flavours. The fried rice, chicken and eggplant were all great, and complimented each other perfectly as well.
S. K.
They are amazing. We were so glad we sat next to the bar - seeing chefs are cooking/producing a great amount of the foods in order which was quite entertaining to watch. Staff are very attentive and friendly. Foods are great, very generous amount. We saw a lot of leek/eggplants dishes were going out - wish we ordered them too. Willing to come back & highly recommended

Simply stunning. The team are incredible to watch sitting at the bar inn front of the kitchen. A well oiled machine with everyone working in perfect synchronicity.
The wine list is small but with great choices across all price bands.
The food (THE FOOD) was incredible. I have to say I love Japanese and given we haven't visited this restaurant before, we decided on the feed me package. It was incredible. Generous servings, flavours and presentation that lifts this restaurant well above the average excellent Japanese restaurant.
There was a line at 9pm so be sure to book. Seating inside or out is available.
I only rate awesome and horrid. This place was at the pointy end of awesome.
Happy eating

Six stars. If only that were possible. This is my FAVOURITE restaurant in the country!!!! I live in Canberra and dine in Melbourne and Sydney a lot (that consulting life…) and this place outshines the best of the best across the country. The staff are so friendly, knowledgeable and pleasant. They are easily the best in the game (especially Peta). Her service, knowledge and communication was sensational. She really made our evening special.
I also can’t get over the prices. Silver service places charge more and they WISH their food and service was this good!! Hardy’s Verandah Restaurant, for example, charges more but their food and service is nowhere near as good. Sean’s Kitchen also wishes they could serve red meat as good as the aged ribs here (they can’t and Sean’s Kitchen prices are a joke for the quality of food they serve - go to Shobosho and get the Aged Ribs instead).
The food is amazing, cooked to perfection with beautiful flavours and amazing presentation. The aged ribs was the stand out dish, although everything we had was 10/10. Even the bread was something special. The atmosphere, food and staff make this a truly special place that I would come back to time and time again.

Wonderful place for a fancy dinner!
Only a short wait between dishes even though it was quite busy, and service was exceptional.
We picked our dishes to share instead of the feed me options.
Large selection of different dishes (most made to share) on the menu, with some being more generously sized than others.
For the price point everything lived up to, and even exceeded our expectations!
C. Y.
Awesome atmosphere and great food. Favourites were definitely the rib steak and Teri chicken. Amazingly curated favours for the mains. Sando and crab udon was delicious too although bit pricey for the small portion for those 2 items
M.
Food and service was amazing! Each dish was innovative and well balanced. I wish we had come here earlier so we could go back again. Will definitely be back when we're in Adelaide!
E. L.
Great vibe and decor, really keeping to a Japanese style theme. Food was amazing, definitely get the tuna, barramundi and steak !
The only gripe was the beer on tap was quite flat and the cider wasn't the best either, but the food made up for it. Would definitely come back next time in Adelaide!

Awesome restaurant. Was so busy on the Saturday night. Foods is incredible. Was sitting on the bar got to see all the staffs working so smoothly together .
Foods come really quick for a busy night
Will definitely coming back.
My best dish is crab udon and wagyu beef Really soft and juicy.

I have quite high expectation about this place since it is one of recommendation from my friend and I've seen so many reviews said this place is one of the best restaurant in Adelaide.
Their food was good but wasn't that great either.
We ordered 6 dishes of starter, most of the main taste was on the sour side, which were
1. Oyster; ofc! Tangy taste to refresh at the kick off!
2. Salmon tataki; ponzu with wasabi. So average.
3. Wagyu tartare; with Katsuobushi mayo which i didn't smell or taste it at all.
4. Duck dumplings; also dipping sauce was also tangy.
5. Prawn wonton; the size was so small compare to the photo Ive seen on IG. The filling was good but the sauce is so bland. I think is might be good for soup but not good enough for sauce and also wonton skin I think some part they wrap it too thick so when they boil it's hard to cook and a bit chewy.
6. Grilled Leek, this one was good. Texture and balance of taste was perfect.
Main; we had half grilled chicken which was delicious, aromatic from the char and texture was tender and cooked to perfection. Combination with fried rice which was on point, not too oily and pork was nice and still juicy.
Service was nice and friendly but i think there should be more staff on public holidays since they were super busy.
Overall, i think it was still a good experience to try the food from one of the best restaurant in Adelaide.

We found this place on Google when we Googled ‘best restaurants in Adelaide’. It certainly lived up to it’s name. The food is amazing! Even as vegetarians we were enamoured. We sat at the bar and watched the magic happen. I recommend this amazing restaurant to whomever wants a real Adelaide experience of the asian fusion culture. When we come back to Adelaide we are definitely coming back. If you want great food with a twist. you gotta come here!! 😀

Went here for my birthday dinner with my partner. First of all the service was great, waiters constantly went out of their way to ensure the meal was pleasant, your table was clean, dishes were gone within 40 seconds of finishing with the dish. Do not come here if you are looking for a ‘normal priced filling meal’. It’s very evident that this is a delicacy restaurant which I was aware of so I am happy with it, but I’m sure others may come here thinking it’s just ordinary food. The food was just sensational. We had raw salmon, tuna, crab pasta, a whole barramundi cooked in seaweed. It’s just amazing flavours. To be honest my favourite part was the vibe, all night was 90’s RnB/HipHop. Super unique for an Asian style delicacy restaurant. 1000% would recommend coming here for a special occasion lunch/dinner.

A highly recommended restaurant in a buzzing Laneway in Adelaide CBD, and it smashed all expectations! Food was packed full of flavour, perfectly cooked/raw haha and seasoned, and by getting the head chef’s recommendations, I tried things I would never have intentional chosen - worth it!! Small but delicious cocktail list. The beeswax aged whiskey was certainly smooth. Very friendly, knowledgeable and professional service. I missed the previous night service as it was quiet, however, the you g man booked me in for the following night and made sure it was extra special! Just wow! Shobosho deserved the top ⭐️
D. F.
Great asian fusion food, friendly staff.
We ordered Lobster udon, salmon tartarki, morton bay bug spring roll and oven baked barramundi wrapped with nori. all taste amazing.
Will def come back again.

Shobosho must be a local Adelaide favourite as it was busy during the mid week dinner service and it's not hard to see why! The waiters were knowledgeable and offered some great suggestions from the menu. Highly recommend ordering the Salmon Tataki and Crab Udon. The crab Udon in particular was a standout - silky and chewy Udon noodles with a zingy and buttery Yuzu dressing with crab pieces mixed with some Nori to top.
Unfortunately the kitchen ran out of dessert so we weren't able to try any of the offerings :(

First time dining and agree with many online reviews. Such a great dining experience without being over the top. Smart casual dress code is more than enough. We tried a few different things from the menu standouts were definitely the Katsu Sando and swimmer crab Udon. Could not fault anything we had. Drinks were also really good. Had about 6 courses and 2 drinks EA and ce to $220. Would happily dine here again next time we visit Adelaide.
K.
Great foods. Flavors are just amazing. Meal sizes are a little small, but the rich flavour a make up for it and some of the meals you most likely couldn’t eat much more given this.
We ordered nearly everything on the menu. If you have no budget I would suggest this.
Wine list and drinks are top notch also.
S. L. K.
A great dining experience. Lovely restaurant in an atmospheric alley off Hindley St. Dishes were without exception outstanding, and the even, consistent excellence was perhaps best exemplified by everyone in the party choosing a different couple of dishes as their favourite at the end of the meal. Every meat dish we tried (grilled teriyaki chicken, char siu with fried rice, rib steak) stood out with their exceptional juicy tenderness and flavor. The crab udon sat in a broth as laden with umami as one would expect.
Highly recommend and will certainly return

The place is just lovely! The food is amazing, really nice flavours and perfectly presented. The service is great and the staff is very friendly. It was a really great experience having lunch there. Highly recommended.
A. P.
Very cool dining experience with great music, service, food and drinks. They really went out of their way to make sure there were vegan options, our server Sha was so sweet and accommodating. Try the red rice sake and Singapore Sling - just delicious.
E. O.
The food at Shobosho was divine, every plate more interesting than the last. Paired perfectly with Asian style cocktails and a vast variety of sake on offer.
Our waiter Maxim was a real delight to chat to, and the head chef had a very impressive hold of the kitchen.
Only 4 stars because the maître d' passed us multiple times without acknowledging us waiting. We stood awkwardly in the busy walkway for over 5 minutes, not an impressive start to our dining experience.

📍: 17 Leigh Street, Adelaide
📝: I had ShoSho, sister restaurant of Shobosho and felt like couldn’t miss out om Shobosho itself this Adelaide trip. Shobosho is a restaurant focusing on Japanese yakitori & grilled fare in a rustic-chic space with a bar.
❤️: Absolutely loved the 🐑 Wood Roast Cumin Lamb Ribs with black vinegar and braised leek. The meat was so soft and tender. I had it together with the 🫓🧅 Wood Baked Shallot Bread with Curried Onion Oil and it was absolutely PERFECT 😍. I’d also recommend the 🖤🧂🐙 Salt & Black Pepper Squid with black ink, tenkasu and miso cream.

Had dinner here tonight and it was absolutely lovely. From the food to the service and decor, it was all fabulous. Look forward to the next visit.
N. L.
Hmmmm. Overall food was great but not wow tho. We were expecting more for the price paid.
👍👍duck dumplings ~ phenomenal
👌 wanton, s&p squid, salmon tataki, wagyu were so-so
👏🏻 Whiskey highball is a must get!
We like the great selection of drinks and customer service was fantastic! Loved the ambience and the music.
J.
We went with the Feed Me option and we got an amazing range of dishes. Our favourites were the duck dumplings and Crab Udon. the chilli sauce the dumpling were sitting it was to die for and the crab was so tasty, especially with the large amount nori piled on. Personally had the Yamazaki Distilled Reserve whiskey which was delightful.
K. S.
Yes the food is good. Service ok. Atmosphere great. Loved the open kitchen. Chef was amazingly talented. Maybe the music is a bit loud, to enjoy conversation.
Good but expensive. Very expensive 🤑
P. F.
We went to this tiny cosy place to have dinner. It is better you reserve the table prior as you don’t want to worry about the availability. My husband liked the steak and we had fried rice and lamb dish too. The service is excellent and multicultural waiting staff which makes the job efficient. After a long time, we both had a quality dinner spending sometime together.certainly a worthy visit.
B. Y.
Loved the food and ambiance. So many things to try, will definitely come visit again. You have to try and book the yakitori station and try their tsukune.
E. L.
Went here on Tuesday and had the best experience! The food was absolutely delicious, if you like to try a little bit of everything get the 5 course taster. The portions are perfect by the end we were definitely full! The atmosphere and decor were warm and welcoming and the staff made it all the more inviting. They were attentive and friendly, no dirty dish was left to long and someone would always smile as they passed your table. Thank you to all the workers on Tuesday night, you made our night so much better then we had expected.
W. T.
Everything we had tonight was great. Tonkatsu sando and tuna bites are top notch. Servers are also very attentive and friendly. Overall it’s a wonderful dining experience.
M. H.
I was lucky enough to have a table free by walking in, as I was travelling solo. The food is exquisite. The staff were amazing and what made the experience better was there was no evidence of a self-important millionaire barrister with a blue check on Twitter anywhere to be seen. Team keep up the fabulous work in the toughest of times.
G. B.
An excellent tasting menu lunch at Shobosho, with a seat at the bar area so some added entertainment from both the bar staff and chef's. Each course was full of flavour, and not only was I impressed with the dishes but also the sheer quantity. If you are in Adelaide put this on your must visit list.
W. M.
I love the energy and vibe here. The menu is creatively genius. Doesn't serve what most would call traditional Japanese food, but well worth the adventure! Service is second to none!
If you're a food geek, i recommend sitting along the kitchen. The kitchen offers some amazing views of their different cooking techniques.
E. L.
We got lost trying to find the restaurant, as there was no visible signage.
But when we eventually found it, the service was top notch and they were very attentive to our needs.
We ordered the 4 course feed me menu and it was big portions and delicious! Be prepared on the chashu fried rice it can feed 4 people but it was only the 2 of us!
The also have a good selection of Japanese whisky!
S. F.
Delicious food, japanese but with interesting flavours and textures! Would definitely recommend!
P.
Super good vibes at this place, while you may think that the authentic Japanese experience is lost by the ambience, you soon realise that it is a great marriage between modern Australian and Japanese. The staff were friendly, service was good and the meals and drinks were decently priced.I had the “feed me option” , a four course meal selected by the chef which was amazing.
C. E.
My boyfriend and myself went here for our first Valentine’s Day dinner and we were incredibly impressed with the food, service, and vibe. Special shout out to Tom for making our night so special, you were amazing. We highly recommend and would come back again in a heartbeat!
P. Y.
Great food, best creative Japanese style in town. Personal opinion, don't go for the set menu even if it's your first time, just order what seems to attract you, and you won't be disappointed, whereas I disappointingly learnt this in a hard way.
The missing star is because I didn't like the music, and I don't know why they like raps so much. I would expect some J-rock or J-pop instead, as it's apparently a Japanese restaurant.
R. V. d. M.
Delicious food, attentive and efficient service, beautiful atmosphere. Highly recommend this for a night out. Higher price range, but absolutely worth it. Very accommodating when I asked about gluten free options. Extensive wine list including local and foreign wines, great Japenese Whiskies and Sake.
K. H.
Great place ,great vibe.
Food is fantastic and the service is fast and attentive, we sat at the bar and had a great view of the kitchen and Tom the head chef, kitchen works so well and Tom took time to explain the different foods, sauces and accompaniments which are awesome.
Really enjoyed the buzz of this place. Top night ,we will bring friends next time....soon.
L. N.
Delicious, out of the ordinary Japanese dishes and flavours. I love going to restaurants where you can share so you get a little taste of everything. In our party of 4 guests we ordered 10 dishes (9 unique but overall 10 because we doubled up on 1 dish) and we had some leftover for takeaway. Good service, good food, good wine selection. Would definitely recommend.
A. M.
Highly recommended, friendly staff and absolutely incredible food. I'd suggest booking before as they are quite busy but it didn't take long for the food or drinks to come out. I'll be going back and might even let the waiter / chef choose some items as I think they would take you on a real food journey! If you're a fan of whisky do yourself a favour and try the Nikka coffee malt in bee's wax, it's smooth with hints of vanilla and pineapple. Top stuff and keep up the good work!
L. F.
Such a lovely restaurant - the food was exceptional and the service attentive and kind
M.
Wow, this food is in another level. There are plenty of options for vegetarian and vegans too. Do NOT hesitate to come here but ensure you book. I can't recommend a dish as everything is delicious. You will love it. Btw, don't forget to order sake. Williams parking in front of the street. Update: kimchi dumplings, fried rice and barramundi were delicious.
J. P.
Two very contrasting experiences. The Food was absolutely spectacular and tasty & I cannot fault any of it. However, the service was appalling. We had to re-order about three times because the staff either forget or missed things. A simple sparkling water took about 20 minutes to arrive.
i.
This place is well worth checking out, very visual with an open kitchen, fantastic and friendly staff, amazing food and great cocktails... Perfect for a long lunch or romantic dinner... Had the feed me menu and it did not disappoint, highly recommend the crab udon or the dumplings are to die for... Vegan friendly (also very very Omni friendly!!!)
WILL BE BACK! LOVE THIS PLACE!
G. L.
Incredible food, must sit at the bar because watching the chefs at work was half the experience! Highly recommend getting the salmon tataki & spanner crab udon.
J. L.
What a wonderful dining experience. You can tell that shobosho focuses on the quality of the food because the dishes weren't pretentious, and every single ingredient on the plate had a purpose to deliver a delicious meal.
Highlights for me were probably the katsu sando, spit roast bird, blue swimmer crab udon but honestly everything was good.
Only thing I probably didn't fully enjoy was the scallop, which was a bit too buttery for my liking. Also, the oysters were too salty from the soy sauce, but the oysters themselves were so fresh and yummy.
O.
Absolutely Incredible restaurant, but the highlight for me was the amazing staff! I found them to be very reasonable and accommodating. Anyone who has anything bad to say about this restaurant may not be right in the head.
G. (.
Amazing food, pity the service doesn't live up to it. We asked for a booth when we booked, none were available when we arrived, but we were told we would be moved into one as soon as one was free. That didn't happen, new patrons were given the booths. It took over 30 mins from the time we finished our entrees until we got our mains, and only after I asked where our food was. Disappointing sums up our experience, we know what they are capable of.
J. R.
Got the $75 tasting menu and was left disappointed. Quantity over quality it seemed because although there was heaps of food, some of it was pretty sub par for a restaurant of this repute. The entree of lotus chips and tuna salad was nothing special, any old shop can throw the salad together although the fish seemed fresh. The wood fired leek was interesting and different, although about a third as much would have been good. Gyoza/pot stickers were again nothing incredible. The stand out dish was the udon in seafood bisque. I genuinely enjoyed this very different take on udon. Teryaki chicken and spring onion bread were the low light of the meal, the chicken was bland, the sauce thin and not very flavoursome. Bread was just heavy doughy and not enjoyable. Dessert of coconut ice cream and freeze dried pineapple was tasty, but doesn't seem super inspired to me. Overall, what I might expect for a $50pp hotel meal, not a $75 well reviewed restaurant.
H. G.
Delicious banquet menu but you might leave there a little hungry.....
Not my first visit to Shobosho and will not be my last. I have always been a fan of their 'Chef's banquet' menu offering, however this visit was the only time I have finished one of these dining experiences (in any restaurant) still feeling a little hungry... We ordered a Katsu Pork sandwich (delicious) on top of the banquet to feel satisfied.
I feel that with a chef's menu/feed me experience, you should expect to feel full or even having somewhat over-eaten slightly.
That being said, the food, presentation and service were all exquisite as per usual and the restaurant appears to be trading as busily as ever which is great news particularly given the current difficulties particularly with restrictions affecting local restaurants and cafes.
I always highly recommend Shobosho for a special meal out somewhere, I just hope that next time, I feel a little more full after a banquet.
P. A.
Beautiful, cozy place with amazing service and very friendly staff. Open kitchen makes this place even more charming. Since we were 6, the set menu was served. Starter with raw fresh tuna and mayonnaise and green beans with shredded seaweed on top was so fresh and appetising. Pork dumplings and charred green beans were tasty as well specifically the spicy chilli sauce. Crab noodle with creamy texture was beautifully done but unfortunately there were a piece of plastic found in one of the bowls which was a shame.
The main was roasted teriyaki chicken with house made shallot bread. Chicken was good but the breads were just fantastic. The recommended sake and the white wine were best choices of the drink thanks to the staff!
I would love to visit this place soon.
L. W.
Out of towner review: A charming setting for tasty food. Perfect place for an intimate dinner and so much awesome atmosphere is created by the bustling kitchen & talented staff.
Different cooking techniques (woodfire etc) make the dishes full of character. I can't think of any place in Melbourne that feels so cozy yet offers up interesting Japanese like this.
We received wonderful service when we asked to be moved to a booth when it became available.
L. V.
My favorite place for brunch and yet to try dinner. This place is truly amazing. The chefs are awesome 👏. The dishes and sake OMG!!! This place everything is made with extra extra love. ❤️Shōbōsho🥰!! Their cookery, table settings, service and the chillaxing atmosphere, you must find out for yourselves! Loved it so much will come for dinner!!!
A. K.
One of my absolute top dining experiences in Adelaide. Many excellent nights have been spend at these gorgeous bar seats and in their wonderful booths. Fantastic vegan & dietary options, incredible front of house, impeccable atmosphere.
Z. L.
A fabulous dining experience, simply AMAZING. Not pictured here sadly is their crab udon which was definitely the favourite for me. Definitely want to try their yakitori next time!
B. E.
Loved our dinner at Shobosho! Excellent food (we ordered way too much but it was so good). Great wine and beer and the yuzushu was delish too. Totally recommend for Japanese with a twist.
L. H.
Great food engaging all the senses! Must go in Adelaide!
C.
My favourite was the chargrilled leak and lemony crab udon.
We were seated outside. Not a great choice as there was heaps of dried bird poo and when the wind blew, bird poo from the umbrella and trees fell onto our table, hair and (luckily) empty plates. Also had some fresh plates which weren't cleaned properly but they were quickly replaced by the waitress when I told them.
a. m.
I struggle to understand how this restaurant is hatted. Food was a bit hit or miss. Service was also inconsistent.
We ate outside, perhaps the experience inside is better. Outside was very dark, sitting on stool not too comfortable and for the most part we had little and somewhat unfriendly service.
Maybe an off night? But my understanding is to get a hat you had to be better than this.
M. T.
Honestly, not too sure whether the restaurant is worth the hype. Food was decent but probably not worth the $$$. Service is on the side of average to slightly rude. Additionally, we were seated outside on a rainy and cold day and, although that isn’t too big of an issue, the place that we sat leaked rain water and could do with some heaters. All in all, don’t hate it but don’t love it either.
D. S.
Absolutely worth a visit if you like Japanese food! Don’t expect sushi or other dishes that you’re used to..
Definitely make reservations in advance! We were there in a Monday night and it was busy!
We chose the “a la carte” option as we weren’t too hungry, and absolutely loved all the dishes we picked.
Raw tuna was definitely a favourite. The food is tasty, fresh and a different mix of flavours.
The dishes are meant to share; we picked 4 (5 if you include the chips)...if you’re hungry, you definitely need more.
Pick a saki with your dinner, it really complemented my dishes.
The interior is very Japanese; the staff very kind!
M. G.
Agree with the general theme of most reviews. Food was ok. Service was Poor. First impressions are always critical. We were seated inside (booth) with a drinks menu. Server did not return. New server took the order and provided the food menu. No explanation as to the menu. Ordered. Ate. Paid. Left. Unfortunately our worst food experience in Adelaide however we were spoilt at Magill's the day before. Shame.
S. S.
Amazing Japanese cuisine. Everything dish was incredible. Taste, texture, quality of ingredients is fantastic. Staff are friendly and fast. Good drinks. Prices are high but it's worth it. Definitely returning.
G. V.
The food here was so yummy. Atmosphere was really fun. Only draw back on this place was the serving manager told off the chefs right in front of us and it left us feeling pretty uncomfortable and feeling sorry for the staff he was managing. Made for a bit of a weird experience.
T. W.
I had the most amazing 5 course meal at this restaurant! The blue swimmer crab udon stunned me but the next main course, teriyaki chicken was even more amazing! Highly recommended!!
J. A.
10/10 This restaurant is exactly what it's hyped up to be. The food was tasty and completely out of the ordinary, the flavour on every dish will surprise you every time. Waitresses are highly attentive to each table, quick to take used plates, and very knowledgeable of all the dishes. Will come here again.
J. h.
Amazing, so delicious. The food you want to eat. Has to be one of the best food places in Adelaide
M. J.
Cozy little place tucked away. But you're hit with a warm welcome once you step in. Cute little yakitori bar at the front, however it was booked out at the time. This place is always packed. Was seated at the bar area at the top. Great service, nice ambiance and to top it off, food was delicious. The katsu sando (sandwich) was the highlight, much better than the mains katsu as that was a different cut and was much tougher and chewier, kingfish entree really fresh, leek was an interesting try, steak with egg noodles was good as well. Dessert looked really fancy too. Its the experience that's worth paying for.
G. S.
Incredible atmosphere. The food - WOW!!
The Staff…beyond amazing.
We had the ‘4 Course Feed Me’ from the menu - loved every single course.
Thank you guys.
K.
We took a while to try this place as I've never been a fusion fan and just had a feeling that it's overrated. And I thought correctly. Kudos to the chef for using the salty, fermented chillis on the snake beans sparingly as it gave the dish just enough punch. I didn't mind the dish, but I expected more as its something I've frequently eaten in my grandma's kitchen and this just didn't match up.
The roasted leek dish definitely needed more salt (I ended up dabbing some of the fermented chilli from the beans to salt it up) and didn't taste fiery at all. There wasn't much to it as the outer skin couldn't be eaten and the milk sauce was oddly oily and sour at the same. Looking at the menu again now I don't remember seeing any wakame either - it's definitely not in the photo!
Between the lamb ribs and BBQ prawns, I'm not sure which was more disappointing. We did like the garnishes on the prawns and the slight onion-y taste of the microherbs, but the prawns were disappointingly rubbery. The dish was tasty though.
The lamb on the other hand tasted more like a cheap flap cut that was overly fatty instead of a proper rib. There was hardly any cumin taste and the sauce was a tad too sweet and.. boring. It was missing the roasty, herby vinegary punch I expected it to have. And looking at the menu again, I just realised this small dish was $37!!!
Finally the Katsu Sando which I had the lowest expectation for was the biggest surprise, as it was the best dish of the night! I wonder if it's because I haven't had enough Katsu sandwhiches to know or could it be the Kewpie? Nevertheless the patty was delicious - it wasn't the dry, pork-y cutlet with soggy crust that I was expecting - instead it was flavourful and maybe a bit sweet too from the ham, but it matched the cabbage salad that came with it.
The spring shallot bread with curry oil didn't have enough shallot nor curry taste to it and could be slightly chewier.
Service could be better too. We asked for a refill for our tea and asked again after 10 mins when it didn't come back, we were told by an annoyed waitress that we had to wait as it took a while to brew. They actually did forget, but remembered and returned it 20 mins later when we were about to settle the bill. I'm not sure why either, but they gave us a set of cutleries with each dish but placed them on the table which I thought was unhygenic as we were sitting outside? There were times they just dumped it on top of the dish so the handles were covered with a bit of sauce which was quite annoying.
Overall, the restaurant is overrated and overpriced. If you want some 'real' Asian food, do yourselves a favour and go to Chinatown; you'll get more delicious Asian food that will not leave you feeling dissatisfied!

It’s difficult to compare Shobosho to anything else in Adelaide because it’s in a league of its own. The soho vibe and friendly service is just the beginning with the food and drinks taking this venue to the next level. We cleaned off every plate and struggled to restrain ourselves from picking up the dishes and drinking the remnant sauces... too good! A highlight was the pork cutlet sandwich - wish mum had packed one of these in my school lunchbox instead of mustard pickles, ham and lettuce - could eat it everyday
P. P.
Been to many restaurants but this one is my most favourite so far. The foods were absolutely fantastic and staff were helpful and really looked after me well. I left with a divine smile!
E. P.
Enjoyed the variety on the menu, which had some interesting fusion items like asparagus with tofu foam, dry crab udon, steak with potato noodles.
Unfortunately found the dishes pretty average - the salmon tataki was poorly sliced, the udon was too salty, the lamb ribs dry and I didn't love the texture of the fried potato noodles with the steak.
I did like the ponzu flavour of the tataki, loved the creaminess of the leek and the udon, and the steak was cooked well.
Staff were also average - and while pouring water for the table, the maitre'd spilled some and didn't apologise or wipe it up.

Fantastic lunch.
Had the lunchtime fed me special. Every dish was simply great. Highlights were the dumplings, pork tonkatsu sandwich and spit roasted chicken. So so good. Would definitely return. Service could improve slightly, but a super friendly team.
A. M.
Well made food with tasty flavours. Dumplings were an absolute winner!Service a bit pushy, which I assume was because it was busy, but would definitely visit again.

Simply one of the best restaurants I have been to all year.
The food - exquisite (and no disrespect to Adelaide, but one of the only places in the CBD I found something a bit different). I may dream about the snake beans.
The drinks list - tight but creative, and good value. I felt like the red wines covered a more interesting range of grape varieties than the whites, but that might have been my personal biases showing.
The service - friendly, intelligent, intuitive. Great balance between providing a bit of banter when the mood called for it, and appreciating when a punter is after peace and quiet.
Bonus mentions: The willingness to serve half-portions for solo diners, so they can try more things on the menu. The linens - beautiful soft napkins. The music - truly outstanding! I would genuinely play Shobosho's playlist at every dinner party for the rest of my life.
Do yourself a favour and don't miss this venue.

Really popular restaurant, make sure to book way in advance online if you need a specific time and even a specific seat (inside or outside).
Food was high quality and fresh however for the price you pay, food wasn’t up to that standard which was disappointing as we read many many reviews in regards to Shobosho and was expecting the best. I may be comparing too much to actual food in Japan’s standards. We ordered extensively and got better value rather than ordering the 4 course $75 set menu.

One of the best restaurants in Adelaide. The Yakitroi bar with chef Sun was awesome as was the service from John and Michael. We go to this restaurant on every visit to Adelaide because it is one of the very best. Fantastic food, beverages, service and overall value. HIGHLY recommend!
F. R.
Underwhelming, the only highlight the pork katsu. We chose the chef selection 5 courses, all the dishes lacked in flavour and weren’t interesting. I excepted much more from this place. The service was great.
K. B.
Food is always amazing, quite expensive but worth going on occasion. Only problem was the waitress seemed to be really hurrying us out the door, despite having a reservation. We felt pushed out within about 35-40mins and it significantly ruined the otherwise good experience.
S.
Great spot for great japanese. Everything is cooked with precision and speed. If you get a seat at the bar you can watch them create their amazing dishes. Large tables are also available for groups. Service was fast and friendly. The ramen was a very generous serving size and delicious. Highly recommend!
N. W.
This place exceeded all expectations. An authentic Japanese feel in a modern setting. Every dish was a stand out with perfect seasoning and flavours. Recommend sitting at the bar where you can get up close to and interact with the chef's.
G. P.
Loved the atmosphere and the flavours of this traditional Japanese restaurant in the trendy Leigh Street in Adelaide CBD. Would highly recommend the dumplings and the special rice. We were fortunate to sit in front of the kitchen which was quite entertaining to hear the orders called and the meals prepared while we waited for ours.
L. B.
Highly recommended. We flew in late from Hobart and they welcomed us, 5 minutes to kitchen close.
Flavours, Amazing!
We shared Pot stickers, wontons, beef bun and dumplings. Lovely french sparkling wine to wash it down. We will definitely be back! Nice easy going head chef.

Updated review Dec 2020. Dinner at @shobosho: amazing food as always! Managed to get a last minute table, which was lucky 😆. I don't think we've ever been disappointed when deciding to come here to eat.
.
Tasmanian salmon taking, ponzu, wasabi: really tasty dish. I think we've had this dish every time we came here because it's so delicious 😅🤤😍.
.
Wood grilled scallop, yuzu, tapioca, salmon roe, buerre blanc: so yummy! The scallop was excellent - super tender. Flavours were like party in your mouth.
.
Katsu-sando, crumbed pork meatball sandwich, tonkatsu, cabbage: super delicious sandwich! The pork was tender and full of flavour, and the bread was nice and light.
.
Duck potsticker dumplings, 5 spice, chilli, sesame: these dumplings were very nice. Don't usually have duck dumplings, so these were quite unique.
.
BBQ octopus skewer: such good flavours 😍😍🤤🤤.
.
Char siu pork sausage roll, rice wine pickled onions: this was a really interesting dish! The sausage roll had char siu sauce on the outside, and the pork was really tender on the inside. Delicious flavours and textures. The pickled onions made a nice addition!
.
Wood roasted tomatoes, Chinese vinegar, garlic, watercress: delicious and refreshing vegetable dish 🤤.
.
Wood roast cumin lamb ribs: omg this was sooooooo good! Smokey flavour and super tender. Perfectly done.
.
Spit roast teriyaki chicken: I don't know how they do it, but the meat is so extremely tender! Just amazing.
.
Wood baked shallot bread: I can't believe how good this bread is! Couldn't get enough.
.
Baked mango cheesecake, strawberry meringue, shiso: super delicious dessert! The mango cheesecake was really tasty, and you don't often get to have strawberry meringue. Really good!
.
Coconut sorbet, freeze dried pineapple, coconut milk: I enjoyed this dish, but I wasn't quite sure about the fried pineapple. I think I would've preferred fresh pineapple 😆.
.

What an amazing experience....fantastic atmosphere, service is second to none AND THE FOOD. I had heard raving reviews about this place and it lived up to the hype and some!! We took a Japanese exchange student with us and she loved it, she was very appreciative of the food served and she pointed out that Shobosho means Fire house/ station which makes perfect sense as every thing was cooked over fire.
It would have been nice to have the option of a Japanese version of the menu for our student to read, but one of the lovely female staff was kind enough to read the menu to her.
Highly recommended, a must visit, it honestly felt like we had walked through the door and landed in Japan. Congratulations on a wonderful establishment.

Updated 2020 review (upgraded to 5 stars):
Revisited shobosho for a weekend lunch and was blown away by the quality of every dish. Excellent flavours and combinations. Delicious. Upgraded to 5 stars
2018 review (3 stars):
We had a nice Tuesday night dining experience here.
The venue has cool Japanese style decor with an open kitchen to the side.
Most of the food was pretty good overall but some dishes were slightly disappointing.
The potato salt n vinegar nori was amazing to start off with. The salmon tataki and katsu-sando sandwich were delicious. The fried leek was interesting. The kingfish was dry and tangy. The chef’s steak yakiniku was overcooked and dry. The spit roast teriyaki chicken was nice
G. M.
5 stars. Absolutely. Some of the tastiest food you will be lucky enough to have served to you. The Yakitori was incredible. So good that we ordered a full compliment seated at the little bar (butt/thigh/heart/wagyu rump/spring onion/salmon belly) then headed upstairs and sat in front lf the wok at the kitchen bar and lapped it up even more. Great cooking. The chefs were legends and made us feel really comfortable, even throwing us a cheeky taste of the juicy char siu pork from the rotisserie! The best! We loved it and really hope we get the chance to eat at Shobosho again.
L. R.
I would give this 10 ⭐ amazing food great service. The menu can not go wrong!! Must try when you re here in Adelaide.
K. P.
Great place for after work, get together or date night. We selected the feed me option, food was amazing but thought things could’ve been chosen for compliment each other. Recommend this place, definitely coming back to try more.
J. C.
Food was good but probably not the wow factor I'd been expecting and a bit of attitude from one of the waiters was not really in keeping with the rest of the staff (who were very helpful/great attitude). I would not get the lamb belly again, the chicken and dumplings were nice and the tuna salad was very nice. Definitely would get that again. Umeshu was also nice.
B.
Food was not that great given the price. I felt like some of the dishes we got really needed additional components to help balance and accompany it.
S. B.
Incredible food, incredible service, a total five star experience. We sat in the front Yakitori bar and enjoyed a full sensory experience of watching the food cook, smelling the grill, chatting with the chef and sipping on sake. The food was exceptional, some of the best meat I've had. The staff and service were also excellent - friendly and professional. I am looking forward to going back!
J. X.
All the entrees including fried rice and vegetables are really delicious so we have a high expectation of the final main course, it looks tasty, however, the waygu is really hard to chew and the source is so prominent and we can’t taste the meet.
M. f. f.
we ordered a lot of food for two people the food was very good we like it
Singapore Sling was very nice I love it
Inside the restaurant it's very dark for me I can't see the menu and I open light from my phone for ordered it
The chair has no back shelter I feel the chair is not comfortable for me
The staff were very friendly and helpful
G. L.
Amazing food. I’m impressed by the noodles. Had a 4 course meal (for 65pp). However, really disappointed by the dessert.
K. K.
Great service, fast and efficient. Great, interesting tasting unique menu. The steak tartare, pork pot stickers and spit fire roast chicken were highlights. Great experience.
J. J.
No faults
Fine dining, flavoursome Japanese food with great service.
The special Saki is definitely worth a try
R. L.
I'm so glad that I finally dined at Shobosho. Food was outstanding, friendly customer service and very chilled out restaurant. We went to Shobosho for a booked event and the food was phenomenal. Just heads up, serving was a bit small and it is on a pricey end of restaurants in Adelaide and you may spend more money on food here but quality is on point.
A. R.
Itadakimasu! Let’s eat!
Dayum this place had the most amazing food and Japanese bevs, everything we had was scrumptious and beautiful, they have an amazing upstairs menu or a casual downstairs yakitori kitchen.
I have to commend Vas for looking after us, he was incredibly friendly and patient with us and went above and beyond to recommend the best drinks and eats for dins. Looked after us in every sense. A must visit for any Adelaide local or visitor.
N. S.
Great food, great service, the salmon was extraordinary. A lot of people at dinner, better book in advance if come with a group.
D. R.
BEST FOOD WE'VE HAD IN AUSTRALIA.
Stumbled upon the little sister Sho on a random Tuesday evening. Joel, the sous chef of Shobosho, was cooking for us and made us incredible food. But, as most of you know, food is not everything. Joel was interested, funny and passionate while cooking for us and made us book at Shobosho five days later. Joel, you didn't disappoint and so didnt Shobosho. The food is cooked to perfection, flavour combinations are spot on and the team works together super smoothly. Thank you for making our stay in Adelaide great and more over, wanting to come back for more.
M. P.
Love the place, great food, kitchen team very organised.
Check out the downstair yakitori, had some chick liver and chick meatball delish!
Love the tuna shasimi, would love to try without the mayo next time :)
Ramen is simple yet sophisticated flavor! Dumpling is great too. Thanks guys and see you soon!
s. b.
We got the 4 course $75pp menu for Christmas lunch. Beautiful and we were so very full. The service was impressive and quick.
We had 3 vegetarians and 1 vegan. We had informed them earlier and they catered well for that.
The music too loud could not hold a conversation across the table. Overall really good and highly recommended for a splurge.
M. K.
We ate here for my birthday and every dish we had was excellent. It was great to sit at the bar and watch all the action unfold in the kitchen. The tuna, salmon and octopus was delicious. The wasabi oil and mayo was that good I had to lick the plate clean. The rice cakes and lamb paired together were amazing also. The service was spot on. We will be back!
R. C.
Quality. Hospitality was top notch. Hats off to the manager
S. F.
Really special Japanese with modern influences, nice service and reasonably selection of drinks!!
Nice staff and comfortable ambient.
A nice to remember !!
L. S.
I highly recommended place. Food was seriously great, the tuna and the scallops were to die for, so was the special fried rice. Good Cocktatials list too
T. Y.
Very average $$$$ food but great service. Love Oysters but just not with overpowering soy. Not the best dumplings.
R.
Food was absolutely fantastic with great flavour. Service was fast, friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was nice and it was full of people enjoying. only problem is that the price is a bit high and they asked us for a tip! Please don’t ask people for tips in Australia, especially when charging such high prices. It’s extremely rude. Otherwise 5 stars.
P. T.
The food is truly amazing.
The staff are really friendly, helpful and accommodating to customers with food allergies or other special needs
This is a dining experience I will go back to regularly and HIGHLY recommend anyone keen to try it does.
K. B.
An absolute must do! The food was insanely good. The staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. The only downside to this impeccably clean, well designed restaurant, was the music was just a bit too loud to have a conversation at a reasonable level.
But really, when the food is so impeccable, that one little thing is easily forgiven.
M. W.
- Japanese fusion food
Although the dishes are not very traditional, they have unique twists which creates new flavours and actually taste very well.
Great presentation, flavour and texture. I had a very great time here. Thank you😊
J. B.
Trendy Japanese Fusion restaurant in a beautiful laneway in the heart of Adelaide city. The service was impeccable and the food & cocktails were even better. Will 100% return when next in Adelaide.
R. K.
Great service and atmosphere but the kitchen really needs to up their game. The tasting menu (which you have to have for a group booking) is a real waste of money I’d say. For $78pp, plenty of other better options
K.
A Modern and Contemporary spin on Japanese cuisine - delicious! And our waiter gave great service, made us feel welcome and answered all of our questions.
Although, the value of the banquet wasn’t great compared to other fine dining restaurants, the serving sizes were too small for sharing (even the mains). Left feeling hungry. Better to order extensively off the menu.
A different waiter randomly gave us our bill and told us another table was coming while we were still eating and had 35 minutes left of our booking! Not a courteous waiter move.
K. C.
We walked in late and sat around the yakitori bar which was an absolute delight! We had a great chat with the chef and had an overall amazing night. Many great choices on the menu, but the duck meatballs, tail and heart were my favs!
A. H.
Great restaurant. Absolutely exceptional food, every dish was amazing, but the oysters and squid in particular were phenomenal. Service was impeccable, staff friendly and responsive and accommodating. Would highly recommend and will definitely be back!
A. K.
Mason our server was exceptional in his knowledge and ability. Could not have wished for a better experience. Will be back
D. C.
Food was divine. Service was friendly and knowledgeable. Salmon melted in your mouth.
Amazing night out!
J. M.
Place was packed, and didn't have a booking.
They fit us in, got to watch the chefs work their magic and was given amazing food!
AMAZING!
so glad we popped in!!!
A. S.
A beautiful restaurant that was packed on a Saturday night, with some delicious share plates - standouts being the pork katsu sandos and the miso salad, yum! Service was friendly but somewhat amateurish at times; our reservation was listed at the wrong time to what we booked and we were chastised for being late (when we weren’t actually), and we were served the wrong drinks and meals a couple of times. Overall recommended however.
K. G.
Fabulous food at Shobosho. We had a fantastic time but ate a little too much! Delicious, and great service too. Had the chef's tasting selection. OMG!! So good. Enjoyed a couple of sakes and the Japanese plum wine was a winner. Great dinner location. Was busy even on a Wednesday night so be sure to book ahead.
T. H.
Great atmosphere, amazing service and good food but not a lot of vegetarian options if that’s what you’re looking for.
S. P.
I’m conflicted because I wanted to love this place but the service really let it down. Our party of 4 booking was half an hour later than the booking time. We were turned away and told I’d receive a text when our table was ready (after standing awkwardly in the doorway for a few minutes without being acknowledged). We went to a bar nearby and no text message arrived after half hour of waiting. Upon coming back we were seated and ordered the Let us Feed you menu. My only request was to make sure we had shashimi which arrived in ponzu sauce. The dish was nice but after having ponzu in Japan this was not up to par. The flavour and texture was lacking.
The other dishes were nice but when dessert came out we had no plates to put it on and no knife so had to try and cut it with a spoon and all of us digging into the same bowl.
Regarding service, this was disappointing. Twice our drink orders were forgotten with no apology. And when the drinks came out we waited 20 minutes (and had to check on their whereabouts). Some staff were quite dismissive. Overall the food was good but the service just wasn’t up to scratch. Maybe they had a busy night so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.
O. D.
I saw a prominent barrister complaining on social media about a polite booking cancellation from this restaurant with plenty of notice, so I feel ethically obliged to drop you guys a good review.
P. L.
Chef table (bar table), near the end where all the action is (the end where the wood fire oven, stove etc are located); full action, you see the chefs in action preparing the food. The food is Japanese fusion, randomly looking for a place to eat and ran into this amazing place. The dumplings and the 1/4 chicken are amazing!
P. R.
Fantastic authentic Japanese with a twist in A funky interpretation of a traditional Japanese setting. Great service and music, and all round great experience!
J. K.
Great food and we went and ordered off the menu instead of the feed me option.
E. M.
Amazing food, atmosphere, music, and service! Our waiter, Beowulf, was so accommodating and made sure we had the best experience possible. Cannot stress enough that everyone needs to try the blue swimmer crab udon and the rotisserie chicken 👌🏼
K. M.
Awesome place, with great staff and great patrons. You won’t find any snooty old barristers from Melbourne here
K. M.
Wow I was really impressed by this place. I was dining alone and they looked after me very well. Food was amazing and the wine suggestions very good.
T. C.
Crazy, manic loud place that buzzes with adrenalin! Not good if you want a peaceful mean but perfect if you like intense energy, booming music and loud vibes. Good food, great balance and consistency.
C. C.
Food tastes just okay, slightly overpriced. Shame the yakitori bar doesnt take table orders band vice versa.
J.
I seldom leave reviews these days, but the flavours of the food on this menu coupled with an extensive wine list, cocktails and good selection of sake made this the best dining experience i have had in over a year.
Staff were attentive even though it was at capacity and i understand how difficult that is when it is busy.
Thank you, and ill be back many times Im sure.
TDLR: Just go there.
D. R. P. B.
We had an amazing experience at Shobosho tonight for a birthday dinner. From the food to the service, everything was superb. The fried rice was just spot on and both the baked cheesecake and the dark chocolate mousse were next level. Big thanks to the team at Shobosho, we highly recommend!
A. B.
We ordered chef’s selection last night, turned out to poorly crafted beans/ bread and chicken and appalling desert.
Our server was good, knowing what to do. However, order a cocktail took nearly 30 mins apparently bar either forgot to make or so. Ambience is good but with food and service is highly overated👇🏻
T. S.
Highly recommended! Great vibe, delicious food, and attentive service. We had the tasting menu. The yuzu leek was the highlight – original and very tasty. The coconut sorbet was also excellent. Had a great night! Five stars.
A. L.
Amazing food, atmosphere and service for our pre-christmas dinner. We left the choice of food in the Chefs hands. A1 selection!
A. H.
Excellent menu, good range of drinks, fresh tasty appealing food, excellent service.
A. J.
Hands down a must visit restaurant of Adelaide friendly happy staff with great knowledge of the menu. The feed me is a delight of flavours finished with an amazing dessert
M. C.
WOW!! amazing experience from the moment we entered. Fantastic tunes. Such a brilliant vibe. Heaps of extra love for our bday celebration and Nash was the best waitress we’ve had in a very long time. Highly recommend this place. Where’s the 6 star button?!
T. R.
The Yakitori bar out the front of shobosho is a brilliant place to stop for a bite to eat and beverage whilst soaking up the Leigh street atmosphere.
The chef always has a smile, as the food prepared in front of you whilst it is fan and smoked in front of you also. Let’s not forget the little chicken to instruct any orders to the upper restaurant which is a good laugh. The cooking gets the mouth watering whilst throwing back the Asahi beer in the mean time.
The neck as maybe off putting as it sounds is delicious, dipped during cooking in a nice sauce with a side off chilli paste, mild but a perfect addition.
All round great joint, I’ll be sure to be back.
N. C. J.
Japanese delight with the food too good to eat, but someone has to do. You will not be disappointed so book ahead just in case... though the streets of Adelaide may be quiet, its because the foodies are keeping this place all to themselves. Check it out!
D. L.
Amazing layout and atmosphere. I felt relaxed as soon as I entered. I love the open kitchen feel. The bathroom is luxurious and worth visiting.
The rahman I ate tasted better than authentic rahman in Japan.
The staff were kind, thoughtful and provided great service.
I will definately come here again.
C. O.
An excellent restaurant. It is expensive but worth it for this food which is very good to say the least. When I visited it was crowded, but still very nice.
V. J.
Amazing food great hospitality alas Tom the chef not there this time we missed you mate.
N. J. J.
Legendary food great vibes and great place to eat and chill top places this is a must when in Adelaide 🙌🇯🇵
A. J.
The food was beautiful however we were seated outside on very small stools with very low lighting, we had to use our phone torches to see our food. It was extremely loud from the surrounding nightclubs and people. Next time we go we will make sure we have a table inside.
K. W.
The food doesnt really taste great but the services are good. Environment is okay.
A. O.
Trendy and innovative Japanese menu. Good Saké selection and Sapporo on tap. Blue swimmer crab upon is delicious. 😋
S. P.
Food is quite good at a reasonable price however if you like your wine with your meal be prepared to spend a big chunk on it. The variety of wine is poor and unfortunately doesn't support our local producers as much as I'ld like to see with no bottles (red) available under $70 I can recall.
H. R.
Great atmosphere, it felt like a Japanese bar but with an Aussie twist. The food was spectacular, especially the dumplings. Enjoyed the sake selection, and the service was on form.
D. H.
Tasty and not crazily expensive. Service was excellent.
S. O.
The udon I had was delicious but their menu is a little bit on the expensive side with the amount of their serving. I just didn't feel that welcomed because I was probably alone and wasn't wearing any fancy clothes. It took time for the guy to gave me a seat and the restaurant wasn't even that busy and he had that weird look because I was probably dining alone lol. The girl who served me was nice though.
D. C.
Asian cuisine meets modern Australia in a hip fashion. Always incredible (been twice).
B. G.
Great food but even better taste in whose booking they cancel!
K. C.
The food was incredible, but the service was seriously underwhelming given our group of 4 dropped almost $400. We ordered the set menu and our drinks didn't arrive until after we'd finished our first course. Anything we needed we had to wave our server down for - water refills, the bill - which took over 40 minutes to get and pay.
T. B.
Amazing food, amazing service! Sat at the bar and Tom in the kitchen was the most friendly and interactive chef that turned the experience into an 11/10. Keep slinging amazing dishes Tom!
D. B.
So the food and service is amazing, we had the "feed me" option which was the perfect lunch. My favourite drink there was the Japanese Pickleshot, it's one shot of whiskey and one shot of pickle juice. I'm not a big fan of the whiskey aftertaste so the pickle juice was refreshing. Sounds weird but give it a go!
K. A.
Never fails to impress. The salmon with authentic wasabi - sublime. All three kinds of dumplings were flavour explosions. Sitting at the bar was great because we got to watch dishes come together (and work out what to order!) Yakitori next time 🤤
j. C.
Had the Feed me option (4 course). Had salmon tartare, pork gyoza, crab udon, spit roasted teriyaki chicken and a sorbet dessert with meringue. The food was nice but for $75pp I feel like the value was not there for the type of food we had. Next time would prefer to do a la carte. The best thing was the nice decor and the ambiance of the shop. 3.5 stars really.
W. L.
This was one of the best culinary experiences of my life. Both the service and the food was outstanding. We visited the yakitori bar on the street level for a snack before hand and it was delicious. I have never had such a flawless experience at a restaurant before. Even though it was super busy, we were sat down straight away and ordered drinks. They were brought out straight away. We then ordered food which, even though the restaurant was packed, came out, bang. The food was delicious and the experience was amazing. Would thoroughly recommend!
K. M.
super nice waiters...very creative cooking...chasiu fried rice is so delicious! and lunch only ramen is also great! loved this restaurant!
C. L.
Bloody marvellous!! This is bespoke food for fussy eaters. My wife has to have lactose, gluten free and no pork. The waiter didn’t even blink, he just tailored the food to our needs and it was spectacular. Don’t take my word for it, see for yourself.
P. N.
A great izakaya inspired eatery of well composed small plates. Great for small groups to share or even a snack at the yakitori bar up the front.
A. G.
We ate at this restaurant for dinner on Good Friday.
We ordered bbq prawns, fried rice, katsu sandwich, duck dumplings, and lamb ribs. They were sold out of bbq prawns so we ordered salmon tataki instead. The food was nice.
Really what let us down is the service - the lamb ribs came out 30 minutes later than the other dishes, they charged us for a dish that they told us was sold out (we picked this up when we looked at the bill), and they forgot to put through the salmon tataki (so we didn't end up having it). It might have been a particularly busy night but a simple "apologies for the mix up" would go a long way :)
S. T.
This restaurant is similar to Mr Miyagi or Chin Chin in Melbourne. Overall the experience and food was average. The vege options were plain, salmon tataki was tasty but overpriced. The staff seemed more focused on themselves than the customers. Great place but rooms for improvement.
I. M.
This was the best dining experience I’ve had in a very long time. Came for Sunday lunch with a group of 7 and lots of allergies. The staff and kitchen team were incredibly accommodating to our needs and the food was simply unbelievable. Every single dish was fresh, fantastic and vibrant. Probably my new favourite restaurant!
R. K.
Nice! What sets the place aside is the atmosphere and super attentive staff. Food is top notch and asahi on top as well as some delicious suntori time highballs. Recommend!
F. K.
Loved this place. Service was warm and friendly, but the food really stood out. Every dish was unique and full of flavour. Special mention goes out to the steak which was cooked perfectly and had that open coal flame taste.
F. J.
Loved our dining experience here. After reading some of the reviews we were a little hesitant BUT so glad we went. Absolutely beautiful lunch with great service, food and wine. We opted for the A'la carte as we wanted to try a few dishes in particular. The tuna was amazing as was the salmon. We then had the pork sando (sandwich) OMG, so so good and then duck pot stickers. For main 1/2 chicken & snake beans. For 2 people we were recommended to do 4 small, 1 main & side as we don't do dessert - all dishes were share and perfect for 2.
I/We cannot recommend you eat here more highly. Don't listen to the negatives on here, go and find out for yourself - you won't be disappointed!! So looking forward to returning and sharing the experience with friends.
M. M.
Awesome Japanese in the heart of Adelaide. Do yourself a favour and drop in, reservation is recommended.
I. M.
The food absolutely divine and staff really lovely. Only doing set menus at the moment with three shorter sittings due to covid restrictions, so we were a bit more rushed than ideal in order to really savour the flavours and experience.
B. B.
Consistently delicious, innovative and exciting food. While Japanese in origin, all the dishes have an amazing fusion of flavors and ideas that makes Shobosho my favourite place in Adelaide to eat. The dumplings change regularly but whether they're Kimchi with black vinegar or prawn with XO, I'm consistently impressed by how ridiculously good they are! I sometimes pop in on my days off for the tasting menu lunch. It's affordable, delicious and a great way for the chefs to show off their innovative skills. Highly recommended if you want a seriously delicious meal.
K. M.
I’ve had the pleasant experience of visiting Shobosho twice now - once right before everything shut down in 2020, and again tonight, the soonest we could make our way across from Melbourne. I’m pleased to say that both occasions were an absolute delight, and it’s as if the place hasn’t missed a beat. I didn’t recognise anyone except for the chef, who was as recognisably in charge tonight as he was last year. I couldn’t look away! The food was incredible and the service was unflinching. If you have the opportunity to sit along the bar, take it - it’s the best seat in the house.

Ordered the set menu and was not disappointed. Love the crab meat udon and the leek. The teriyaki chicken was a bit too bland in my opinion, but overall the place is fantastic

Nice experience, the chefs are right in front of you making the dishes if you sit at the bar
