Comments of Sidewood Estate
D. &. L.
Round #2
Went for lunch to see what had changed over the past year and was stoked to see how Sidewood had grown into not just a winery but an institution.
The menu was expansive and boasted some amazing GF options. We sat for almost five hours and ordered enough food to feed a small army hahaha.
Each dish was packed with flavour and complimented the next.
Shout out to Dave, Fiona & Eden for their hospitality.
Round #1
Sidewood Estate have definitely created a space that caters for everyone.
From it's sleek tasting room, vaulted ceiling restaurant for a more discerning audience, expansive decking for groups, VIP day beds for those spesh occasions and outdoor games areas for both little kids & adult size kids.
If I can please just seperate the restaurant for a moment (which is why we visited) you are offered what can only be perceived as a trendy, up market experience as the modern decor and price point reflect this.
Although the menu reads well, the dishes definitely need a little refinement especially if your charging this much at a cellar door eatery compared to a stand alone restaurant.
Please don't get me wrong, this place has the potential to be an Adelaide Hills favourite and in their defence have been super busy since opening, but as we know new establishments only ever get one chance at a first impression.
Still, we'll definitely give this place another go once the dust settles.
Side note: staff were fantastic..
A. M.
Outstanding location and venue everything was fantastic and the service was terrific. There is a great play area for kids or adults only section. The pizza and chicken pie were great. The wine 🍷 was excellent and beers very nice.
S. M.
One of Adelaide's best!!
Where do i start.... fantastic location 20min from the CBD, huge grounds with over 4 settings to decide where to settle in.
Outdoor family area is great for kids & plenty of space. Outdoors adult area is fun & popular, indoor is fomal dining and alfresco casual so what more could you want, they have it all.
Food (Pizza's) are perfect & in house Ciders are the main go to choices but plenty more to choose from.🍕🍻🥂🥗🍾🥃
J. K.
Mediocre place. Food is average, chips and wings were lukewarm. Ciders were nice but bar staff not able to discuss the product due to queue of people wanting to by jugs of the stuff.
Tables were sticky and dirty, much to my wife's disgust.
J. C. L.
The first place you see before you arrive in Handorf. Big place with plenty of space outside for eating and playing. Great to bring the kids, they have a good playground and a vast green area for running around.
If you want to have lunch in the restaurant you will need to book otherwise the outside bar have plenty of easy plates to share and have lunch and no need to book. The pizza and the dumplings were the best in our order!! No much desert options outside but the ice cream is good enough...
Bring your blanket and seat by the grass in a good sunny day is definitely a good option.
Their wine is good and the variety of beers are just fine.
M. M.
Amazing winery and restaurant, with large indoor outdoor and mixed areas.
The food was nice.
P. M.
It's a really nice spot and quiet enough considering its proximity to the main road. The pizzas were nice and reasonably priced. My only issue was the mark up on their own wine was ridiculous, around 120%.
M. G.
100% recommend this place. Everything is just how you hope it will be. Food is big. Wine is big. Price less big. Our young waitress/sommelier was excellence personified.
C. S.
Thoroughly enjoyed our time, food was good, as was the wine and atmosphere.
R. M.
Had a group dinner for a birthday here on a Saturday night. We did the focaccia and pizza for an entree, which were absolutely magnificent. Three of us had the cut of the day, which was a rump cooked to absolute perfection. Another member of our party ordered the duck and was delighted with how lean and non-greasy it was. Wait staff had excellent service, fantastic knowledge of the menu and wine pairings, and were able to guide us through to meeting everyone's taste and contributed to an enjoyable evening
W. R. (. &. O.
Great place with a lovely family friendly environment. They have some great outdoor play equipmwnt for school aged kids, but not much for toddlers. It has a really nice atmosphere out among the trees. Their selection of ciders are really nice and refreshing on a hot day. The food is nice, however a bit too pricey, I.e small 11inch pizzas range from $20-$30, which is a bit steep.
A. &. J. B.
We visited without a booking for a tasting after having a bottle of Sidewood Pinot the night before.
The service here was as good as the wines - Outstanding.
We did not feel rushed and time was taken to explain the wines and answer our questions.
We purchased a few bottles, and looking forward to returning next time we are in Adelaide.
This is certainly a well-run and managed Cellar Door.
S.
What a delightful destination for yummy food and wine, good vibes and something for the entire family. This place is the ultimate location to sit back for a long lunch, the kids can go wild and play at the other end of the location, there is bocce ball field and cabanas for catch ups. Service was excellent, we ate at the more formal dining room which was ace, but the more informal menu looked delish too outside. Can't wait to come back again. 100% book ahead a table on the weekend seemed super busy and less likely to get a walk in.
E. M.
We had our Family Christmas lunch at Sidewood Estate today. Communication leading up to our booking was great and today was the perfect way to celebrate the year and Christmas with our loved ones. The food was beautiful and so much of it and the service by Georgia our waiter was exceptional. Thank you so much. 10/10! We will be back.
E. G.
We had the most fantastic time at this venue on the weekend! I corresponded with Selena on the phone, and Amir ran us through our wine tastings. Both were an absolute delight. The wine was phenomenal while still being affordable, and the tasting was super customizable and informative. If I could rate this venue 6 stars I definitely would.
N. T.
Friendly service and nice environment with good food.
H. J. (.
Great location, it is right at the entry of Hahndorf. Plenty of parking. There is a new playground near the wine tasting room. It is convenient. The staffs are friendly and helpful. The food is excellent. It is highly recommended.
E.
Lovely experience at Sidewood Estate. The food is consistently great and generous in size, and they have an excellent variety of wines (which are yummy too). This is a great addition to the Adelaide Hills and is a relaxing way to spend a sunny weekend. The service was also top-notch from Remy.
My only suggestion would be to recommend adding more fans on the deck and potentially changing the ceiling/roof material as it was very hot and radiated heat at only about 25 degrees. We will be back!
d. l.
We had an absolutely brilliant lunch. The food and wine was excellent - such lovely distinct flavours. Ali does a brilliant job.
Our waiter Leanne was attentive and funny. We will be back and highly recommend Sidewood Estate Restaurant to everyone!
Plover enclosure at the entrance!
C. R.
I had a fantastic day at the Sidewood Restaurant with my wife and her daughter and friends. The food was absolutely amazing and I think we can vouch for everything as we all shared our dishes!! We did wine tasting with Serena who was a font of knowledge and helped me understand the differences in wines, (as I am usually a beer person), and I think I could probably say things now which may convice some people I know a little about wine. Great host and really enjoyable. My wife also did the sabrage and when I saw her with a sabre was grateful we had not fallen out recently as under Serenas guidance looked quite the expert knocking the top off!!
Every member of staff we met was welcoming and friendly and although I cant remember all of the names, Ali the chef, Leanne, William, Joshua and everyone else were fantastic and a credit to the venue manager Fiona and the Owners.
Thoroughly enjoyable day and would highly recomend it to anyone looking for a lovely day to remember.
Y. M.
Delicious food
Entree octopus and sashmi yum
Mains Korean chicken and butchers cut delicious.
2013 Shiraz was beautiful
Good coffee.
Loud in the area we were in.
P. C.
The most impressive wines, food, restaurant, staff and facilities we have experienced in South Australia. If you're in the area and you're a food and wine lover. You must give yourself an afternoon here.
E. M.
Beautiful surroundings and delicious food.
A cold night to sit outside , or so we thought but the heaters are very effective. The food was so great I forgot to take a pic. We (4) had pizza, prawns, duck and lamb shanks and we all were pleased. Their wine, Sidewood, was also of a great standard. Will drive the 90mins from the coast to do it all again without hesitation
V. I.
Beautiful food, friendly staff and the new restaurant and tasting room is gorgeous. Loved the apple and strawberry cider. Will definitely be back! I would recommend booking. We went mid week and the restaurant was nearly full by 12.30.
M. B.
Popped in for a quick bevie on a Friday evening, had the Big Shed golden stout. Great ambience, felt warm given it was September, the staff were relaxed and accommodating. A nice experience. Will definitely return for a meal, or even just pop in again.
N. Z.
Nice food, quick service and has swings for the kids to enjoy but I feel the lawn bowls can be enjoyed by kids under supervision. Overall nice place to take the family.
L. D.
We were at Sidewood restaurant with some friends and our kids over the Easter weekend. Food was amazing and the service too. Had a wonderful time.
G. P.
Excellent atmosphere and warm and friendly service in a modern and sophisticated dining room. The menu had a good range of modern Australian cuisine designed to pair nicely with their own label wines.
Thanks to Tom and the others for the service
c. c.
Amazing service. Excellent food, generous portions without being stuffed. Great wine selection. Panacotta is a must.
M. S.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. A classy restaurant well worth a second and third visit. The Jerusalem Artichoke entree is especially good.
A. N.
Did a tasting here with the lovely Serena and it was the perfect way to cap off our day 👌
Huge range of delish drops to choose from, nice setting and friendly, knowledgeable staff happy to help you pick out your next glass
Cheers!
A.
Did a wine tasting and lunch here on a Sunday afternoon. Wine was excellent and reasonably priced - as was the food. My only negative (and it’s not even a negative) would be that we were told to come in 30 mins before our lunch and only managed to get half way through the tasting before lunch - the cellar door were happy to accomodate us after lunch to finish our tasting, but if I went again I would allow a bit more time for the wine tasting - it may have just been a busy day though!
M. B.
Just splendid. Only tried the meatballs and bread / oil / dukkah and they were delicious. Try the golf challenge. Picturesque location. Am very keen to try Maximilian’s Restaurant after this experience.
I. S.
Amazing food and service. Great set up. Big thank you to Leanne...what wonderful table service!
K. J.
Fantastic opportunity to enjoy a great night with friends and family. Lovely connective table Service, excellent meals and deserts to die for. Brianna spoilt us 💖👍👣👫🐟😉
J. T.
Great find. If you’ve seen the Lot100 style places popping up around the hills then you’ve got to go here. Great wine and pizza, and plenty of things to keep the kids nice and busy. It’s got the top end restaurant, the chilled outside and the casual bit on the wood chippings under the trees. Awesome.
V.
It’s our wedding anniversary today and decided to take the family with us for lunch
We opted for the 3 course menu and were overwhelmed by the feast that was to follow
The staff were perfect and we were treated so well, they are so efficient and funny, the timing our meals were perfect as were the different courses we all had
The recommended wine just the perfect accompaniment
Thank you for making our special day even more special
M. C.
Jacob hosted our tasting today and he was very knowledgeable and friendly. The white wines are incredible, I highly recommend!
A. E.
A great place for any type of function. The food was excellent. The beer was refreshing and from local Brewers. The wine was good and the staff were attentive and very friendly.
S. B.
Delicious mother's day menu. The entrees were amazing, and plenty of them! We would have preferred the beef cooked a little more but it was still very tasty and both the desserts were full of flavour. Staff were all smiles and very helpful.
G. M.
Service was great. Thank you Alice. The pizza had a docket underneath which kind of spoiled the meal as it went back but credit they did not charge for the wine. They also made an error with the bill. Delicious food and wine
M. G.
Lovely service from very knowledgeable staff. We enjoyed sampling some wine and ciders. Of course we left with a purchase of both.
C. S.
Went to Sidewood for drinks for my sister's Hens day. We were outside in their stunning courtyard, however, it started pouring down rain- the staff put up umbrellas and put out heaters just for us which was so lovely and appreciated. They have a big selection of drinks which are so delicious (strawberry cider A++) and there is something for everyone. Cannot thank Sidewood enough for letting us attend as many other wineries would not take a bigger group just for drinks, but also we really enjoyed ourselves and I look forward to coming back again.
F. M.
Beautiful set up. Food mostly great, except the gnocci which was way too dense. Everything else was excellent and highly recommended.
N. S.
Went here for my sisters hens on a wine tour. Joanna was amazing and so helpful. She knew so much about all of the wines. Can't wait to come back!!
r. H.
Beautifully balanced wines and wonderful, dry ciders! The real highlight is the amazing customer service we received from Joanne!
D. S.
One of the best meals I've had in a while. Friendly staff also.
B. B.
Remy is a great waiter who really helped out my group with our lunch and drink service. Sidewood is a lovely winery and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
C. H.
Such a beautiful place! Great wine and cider tastings. Restaurant seating both inside and outside is gorgeous. Food is reasonably priced, great areas for kids to both play and run around. It was busy, even on a Friday lunchtime, so make sure you book to avoid disappointment.
L. M.
Great location, good food and wine. We did have an issue with our food, and there was an error in the bill, but the service was excellent, mistakes acknowledged and everything done to make sure things were rectified.
M.
Lovely place, great service, very friendly staff, food was great ad well. A bit pricey though.
E. A.
Family birthday, group of 12 for lunch. We had a set menu with 3 choices for mains, 2 for dessert and shared entrees. All the mains were excellent and duck some of the best I have had, crisly skin and pickled daikon perfect. Only slight adjustment would be to have an outline of entrees on menu so you know that cheeses are included in this and don't order the same for dessert, as you make your selections before the meal (unless you want more cheese, they were delicious!). The setting is lovely with plenty of casual options outside with space for kids and cabanas that can be booked outside around the petanque/boules area. Service was excellent and we will definitely be back.
A. S.
Food was great, service great, very friendly staff.
E. Y.
James was a delightful host, thoroughly enjoyed our wine tasting today!
E. K.
Fabulous food and excellent staff. We were well looked after by Leanne at lunch today and will definitely return. The after lunch expresso martini’s were so good too!!
E. W.
Midweek visit for lunch and to the cellar door. Amazing!!!! Selection of wines in the cellar door was fabulous and 3 method traditionale sparklings to try if you love champagne. Lunch was amazing the cauliflower soup was incredible. Will definately return.
M.
It’s okay, nothing amazing to be honest. Busy restaurant and super over priced unfortunately. The service was lovely and wonderful, however for $65 for 2 course (and that’s the only option or $75 for 3 courses) we were expecting a little more from the food. Bit ordinary. Room for improvement as it’s early days for this location.
s. h.
We dined at Sidewood on the 30th for lunch. The wait staff were lovely and attentive. All of our meals were cooked to perfection and some of the best meals we have had. A bit of a wait for the food but worked perfectly for us to sit and enjoy the tasting from the dining room and really enjoy each other’s company.
Thank you so much Sidewood :)
G. A.
Excellent cellar door experience provided by very friendly and knowledgeable staff who knew a lot about the wines. Interesting to also have cider flights available. A buzzing, modern and well designed cellar door with a packed restaurant and great kids play area outside
A. G.
Had a nice lunch and tasting session, everything was fantastic
S. W.
Vintage and Vinyl day, great place with great food. Highly recommended.
K. B.
Had lunch with 24 of my family on Sunday 17/01/21
Absolutely fantastic, the service & food was tremendous
The attention of the team was sensational, a young service team but so enthusiastic & friendly.
Have been a few times before & have been waiting to comment, there consistency is a tribute to the management team.
Cant wait to revisit
M. R.
Excellent coffee, the cider is crisp & fresh (recommend the tasting paddle), loved my lamb & my mum loved the kingfish salad. Very good service too. No room for dessert...next time!
E. M.
We visited Sidewood for lunch today and was looked after by Leanne - who made our lunch such a pleasant experience. She was so friendly. We enjoyed the Sidewood Shiraz and tried a couple of the differant Ciders. All very delicious. We ordered 5 meals (entree, side and 2 mains) and 2 desserts. Couldn't fault any dish. Absolutely delicious. We can't wait to go back! Def reccomend the zucchini flowers and gnocchi.
N. W.
WE had a great time at the Winter Reds day out. Pork and Pinot was a great excuse to get out and check out Sidewood, somewhere we've really been meaning to get to. We will definately be back.
L. M.
Great location, good food and wine. We did have an issue with our food, and there was an error in the bill, but the service was excellent, mistakes acknowledged and everything done to make sure things were rectified.
K. G.
Wow its got everything. What a great spot. Great food ( duck 🦆 to die for ) just need more beer options. Congratulations will recommend.
A. W.
As yet haven't been there. It maybe expensive like we found Bird in the Hand.
E. W.
Midweek visit for lunch and to the cellar door. Amazing!!!! Selection of wines in the cellar door was fabulous and 3 method traditionale sparklings to try if you love champagne. Lunch was amazing the cauliflower soup was incredible. Will definately return.
T. S.
Fabulous
A. M.
Awesome staff and delicious food. Setting is lovely and the cellar door staff member was friendly and knowledgeable.
J. W.
Great food. Medals to all the friendly staff as they were extremely busy today but remained happy and very accomodating and helpful. Will certainly visit again
n. d.
A very refreshing experience in the cellar door tastings. Serena was impressively knowledgeable of all wines on offer.
C. R.
We visited the Saturday 25th for Winter Reds. I could not compliment the entire team enough. The food was absolutely spectacular, not a fault could be made. The staff were congruent, friendly and accommodating. And the atmosphere/ venue set up was just perfect. I look foward to visiting again. Christie
S. B.
Fantastic tasting and extremely knowledgeable staff.
The guy with the beard (didn’t get his name) served my partner and I, he was extremely professional and knowledgeable not only about his wines but all local Adelaide hill wineries.
While we where tasting the cellar became busy but the team on where able to cater for everyone and provide a great tailored tasting experience.
We came for the award winning pear cider but left with some wines also. All in all very professional nice cozy tasting room with knowledgeable and passionate people on.
Also I didn’t partake but if your in the mood for some golf they have a driving range!
K. K.
My wife and I had an incredible experience at Sidewood Estate! We had never done a wine tasting before and Serena was exceptionally knowledgeable, patient and genuinely friendly. We didn't feel rushed at all and were given an excellent list of other cellar doors to explore that was tailored to our interests and individual tastes. I could not recommend it more.
T. C.
Serena was a delightfully insightful individual who provided us with the best tasting ethical wine I have tried in many years!
A. V.
Serena is the pinnacle of wine connoisseurs. She taught me about a reverse velvet rosemary pallet in the local shiraz and we purchased a number of bottles for storage. Amazing experience. Amazing staff. 5/5. What a session.
S. O.
Really good food, great wine, attentive staff and a beautiful venue, what more do you need for a great day out 👌🏻
c. s.
Covid ....tough times.....get on board and Help out local. Just ordered some take away food today for lunch and was quite happy with the quality and taste....thank you. Keep up the good work
T. M.
We arrived for a tasting only to find that our booking had not been noted down, being under certain restrictions with covid still we were worried we might be turned away...
That's where the problems stopped, however, as we were greeted by lovely staff who managed to run us through a very detailed, knowledge-filled and thoroughly delicious tasting menu in the time available before the next group.
We attended just before the proper opening for spring affair which was a brilliant day and this was no different. Cannot recommend highly enough from the range of wines/ciders to the expert advice of staff. If you're not into wine I recommend the cider paddle.
J. C.
Great location and venue, very good service but waited 45 min for main course. We appreciated the manager that came to the table apologise and tried to make up for the waiting but we could see that we weren't the only one waiting. We will be back maybe not on the weekend.
D. N.
great ciders with outdoor entertainment for both kids and adult.
R. B.
The service food and wine is wonderful. This is the standard that other restaurants wish they could achieve. Thank you for the amazing experience. My regret is that my new favorite restaurant is so far from home
N. C.
Outstanding! Food, service, atmosphere, everything was perfect! Thankyou for a wonderful family lunch get together. We'll be back!
B. S.
My wife and I attended cellar door on Thursday. Outstanding wines, beautiful vineyard, winery and cellar door. Sarina at the cellar door was great representative of the wine and the region. If you’re visiting Adelaide, go and taste the wines at Sidewood. Our only regret was we didn’t get to try the great looking menu....
J. D.
First visit to sidewood, visited for lunch. Food was excellent, the Turkish delight cheesecake was amazing! The service was great also! Staff really friendly.
A. M.
Awesome staff and delicious food. Setting is lovely and the cellar door staff member was friendly and knowledgeable.
a. f.
My boyfriend and I did a wine tasting at Sidewood Cellar Door on Friday afternoon. The woman behind the bar, Serena was absolutely phenomenal. She was knowledgable, attentive and very personable. Thank you for making our afternoon at Sidewood perfect and memorable. You were outstanding Serena as were the Sidewood wines. We really look forward to visiting again.
T. 1.
Get there. Soon. Buy some food platters with a good bottle of Sidewood booze. Soak in the Adelaide Hills vibes. Slow life down a little, talk to friends, eat drink and enjoy life in a world class winery.
D. P.
One of the best Adelaide Hills cellar doors on offer. Serena gave us outstanding service with a very personal approach. Great knowledge surrounded by simply perfect surrounds. And lets not forget the exceptional wines! Simply Superb!

I’ve really enjoyed these wines, and having the opportunity to drink them alongside staff on their Facebook during the COVID-19 period. My housemates and I had a blast listening to Serena talking about each drop!
