Comments of BIRD'S NEST - WEST END

Bird's Nest is a thrive Ng Street style Japanese skewer restaurant with a great vibe and atmosphere. They are regularly busy and booking is highly recommended, but for good reason. The food here is brilliant! Good value, great serving sizes and great menu variety to cater for everyone. Drinks list is good with Sake, wines, beers both local and Japanese. Service is fast and friendly. Great experience and brilliant flavours. Recommend for top, top food.

Went to Birds nest for Sunday birthday dinner with the family. The restaurant is small, but the ambiance and decorations were lovely. We enjoyed a number of dishes including chicken skins, sasami, torimomo, butabara, tsukune (absolutely tasty), prawns and the infamous momo cocktails.
Good value for money. Tasty food, and a good selection of drinks however service was a bit off. Would be very happy to go back again and try the rest of the menu.

I loved the flavour and yakitory.
It is really good with cold beer!!
Good place to hang out with friends and enjoy chatting
Friendly staff, small but good atmosphere restaurant.

Went for lunch on a Saturday, service was good. Ordered a few different skewers which mostly tasted nice with the different condiments. There was also complimentary miso soup for lunch. However, 3 dishes were a bit disappointing - lotus chips were over fried and hard, the gizzards were a bit undercooked which didn't taste so good and tare onigiri tasted a bit bland. Overall it was quite pricey for the amount you get with each dish. We wanted yakitori but there are very limited options in Brisbane.

More like 4 and a half stars. Overall we were happy with the meal, but the portion size of the karaage chicken bao really disappointed us. One very small piece of chicken in a large gua bao that was mostly sauce and coleslaw. Pictured is some of what remained after the one little chicken bit was eaten in the first bite.
The chicken rice featured about 3 edamame beans contrary to the description but it was full of flavour, really enjoyed it.
Pork skewer was cooked perfectly with the fat rendered and the skin crispy. Would definitely recommend it. Chicken tenderloin skewer only ok by comparison. We had the chicken hearts too which I always recommend although my partner was less keen. Give them a try!
The service was excellent and the food came out quickly. Just a shame about the poor portioning of the bao in an otherwise good meal.

Here is the best Japanese YAKITORI restaurant in Brisbane! You should order SORI, TORIKAWA PONZU and GOMA ONIGIRI!!! Also they have plenty of original cocktails with Japanese tastes. Always DELICIOUS! I can't stop ordering until completely being stuffed. Thank you for such amazing memories!
E. W.
Easily my favourite restaurant in Brisbane. Cool vibes. Friendly staff. Efficient service. Loved the set menu and umeshu tasting set. The wagyu yakitori is RIDICULOUS.
T. N.
Great Japanese food and good value especially their lunch specials. Got the grilled yakiniku style beef wagyu with rice for $15. It was delicious. Love the bar seating. Staff were friendly and quick.
R. S.
I proposed to my partner here. I told the staff ahead of time what I was planning and they were very accommodating. We got the $50 set menu with a group of 8 and 1 toddler, very yummy. Bird's Nest was able to accommodate a vegetarian with us too. I recommend pairing with a cocktail as they are made very well. She said yes! Thanks again!
C. T.
Apart from Japan, here’s the best chicken grill in aus🍡🍢🍙
R. M.
Best spot for a first date!!!! Came in for a nerve-wracking first date a couple weeks ago and was amazed by the ambience and quality of service! The food is amazing, the restaurant smells gorgeous walking in and the atmosphere is electric. Made the date so much smoother and easy-going! The staff are also incredibly attentive. Would recommend sitting right at the front where the grill.
Thanks, team!

Always busy, which is good but the place is little crowded. I guess it’s going for more authentic feel, this is how the joints are in Japan - atleast from my experience.
This is a great place for trying variety, since the servings are small, gives you the opportunity to try more from menu. So go in there with groups of friends and order everything from menu 😀 that’s the best way.
Reason for scoring 4 instead of 5, lot of items we wanted to order were unavailable. I understand it could be due to lockdowns, but from what we ordered, flavour didn’t disappoint
T. N. (.
Not bad yakitori restaurant. Almost every part of the chicken are on the menu, including liver, gizzards, heart, tails and skin. If you love Japanese style chicken skewer, you should visit this place.
It was a very busy night, full house. We sat at the bar table and saw every skewer cooked on the charcoal right in front of us. Given how busy they were, we didn’t have to wait long for our foods.
We had 8 skewers each, plus a salad, pickles, yaki onigiri and a serve of sake. $155 in total, not the cheapest but reasonable price I think.
They have a 90 mins dining limit. We booked a table at 6pm and arrived on time. Once we finished everything, the table was cleaned and we were given the bill pretty much straightaway. After we paid, we were asked to leave and it was only 7:25pm. It wasn’t even 7:30pm yet and I’m slightly unhappy about it. This was a sore point in an almost perfect night.

A while ago my girlfriend had mentioned she would love to try some Japanese cuisine that wasn't sushi... and with today being our 18 month anniversary I thought it would be the perfect time to take her somewhere different / new.
Some google searches later, the Birds Nest Yakitori restaurant is top of my list of places to try.
From the moment I booked to the moment we left the restaurant i have nothing but praise for the restaurant and staff.
Booking was easy, a change to the booking was easy... the waitress was personable, friendly and knowledgeable, the food came quickly and was delicious and reasonably priced...
5 stars and deservedly so.
Would I go again? Yes!
Z. N.
Very tasty food. Great services. Just a bit pricey so bring a lot of money :)
J. W.
Stopped in purely by chance and was not disappointed at all! The place was pumping but we were able to grab a table without a booking. Loved the sassy and very efficient service from Morgan. The cocktails were tasty and my favourite kind of menu (bar snacks/tapas style). Our faves were the Pork belly, Tofu and Prawns. Will definitely be back for more. 👌
C. L.
Delicious yakitori especially the Chicken Oyster, Skin and Gizzard. Recommend booking if going for dinner~ it gets really busy. Staff are super friendly and helpful with the sake menu. Definitely recommend (:
R. J.
Our waiter was the BEST! Everything she recommended was the bomb! The pork belly was the softest, melt in your mouth pork belly I've ever tasted. This place is always busy but well worth the wait!
C. C.
One of the best yakitori bar and dine space in Brisbane.
With a variety of dishes and drinks, they'll be able to cater to whatever occasion you're here for. From a nice drinks and chat with friends, to a casual first date or a meal out with your family, the ambience is just wonderful.
You can choose to a la carte if you're not too hungry and just want something to coat your stomach before downing a pint of beer (or just knowing specifically what you crave) but if you're in for a value meal, bring a friend or lover to order their one of their set meals. We went with one of the mid-tier options and was very satisfied with our meal. You really get great value for what you pay and they will feed you until you max out your stomach space before sending you off. 🤤😋
I also recommend to get a drink here. Their asahi beers on tap is super refreshing but they also stock great options like matcha beer and exotic cocktails to accommodate their many dishes. 🍻🥂🥃
Dishes I love and would recommend outside what is pictured are grilled tomato wrapped in pork belly skewer, the chicken meatballs skewer, the liver skewer (go for rare, never well done) and the yuzu chicken skewer. You can't go wrong with most of the options there but these are just ones I've found are easy to enjoy.
Service is friendly here but it is quite busy and hard to grab their attention at times. Know what you want and order in one go. They do walk-ins but can be extremely crowded at dinner time so please book ahead. Parking is hard in this area in general but very accessible via busses.
💫Tip: if you want to try the food without spending more than $15 before committing to more, come at between 11.30am to 3pm for their lunch specials 👌
W. W.
Ordered takeaway from Bird's Nest in West End when all their branches were doing a 50% off special:
* negima, $10 - chicken thigh with shallot with sweet soy glaze
* butabara, $10 - pork belly with salt and seeded mustard
* tsukune, $10 - Japanese traditional meatball with sweet soy glaze
* tebasaki, $10 - crispy chicken wings, lemon and cracked pepper
* wagyu don, $15 - 100g of charcoal grilled wagyu short rib on a bed of rice with pickles & mayo
It’s hard to beat the taste of charcoal grilled meat and I couldn’t wait to tuck in after enduring the drive back with the aromas keeping me company! Enjoyed all our choices though would probably skip the tebasaki in future as this was a bit dry and there are better options elsewhere if I’m in the mood for wings.
M. S.
Very good for people who loveee chicken (like me). Went with my boyfriend and 2 friends (I can only handle mild spicy while they can handle extreme spicy) and we all could find something on the menu that we love - don't know why this place has $$-$$$ I found it more like $-$$. Payed $7 for a huge thing of spicy chips and was instantly filled on my 2 bao karrage buns ($14). 10000% would go back there, recommend checking the online menu first so you know exactly what to get and what it looks like as their menu doesn't have pictures and is a bit confusing. Staff was very nice, easy and cheap parking. Toilet is shared at that buliding and a bit creepy to go to at night but other than that I love this place!
T.
service is definitely a 10/10:) its a nice restaurant to have a chit chat with friends and drink some nice sake. however, i personally think the skewers kinda all tastes the same (?) but overall was still a nice experience i had at this restaurant. i will be back:)
E.
Really cool location and definitely "happening" as in the bio.
Great food at a really good price.
The sake tasting board was amazing
It was a little cold inside as the door had to be kept open for wait staff
B. L.
Best Yakitori in Brisbane and for such a good price too. It has such discernable smokey flavour and the meat is always nice and juicy. We also got a Karaage Bowl that was such a good size and really flavourful.
J. H.
Skewers taste excellent, and the atmosphere is like you are in Japan now. The best part of dining here was the service - they asked if we would like to put our cake in their fridge before we asked them and later they served it with the beautiful cake tray. Everything was lovely 👌
S. T.
Another good restaurant with nice decor. We ordered the $55 set meal. They were all very nice. The sake wasn't too strong and rather smooth and sweet. The only thing I couldn't eat was salmon due allergy and the 2 skewers with chicken liver and heart wasn't my type of food. Very busy restaurant and staff was helpful. I will recommend this restaurant to my friends. I suggest you to make a booking as it is a popular one.
M. N.
There's a staff who's not rude and is actually friendly but they have an annoying attitude and awfully loud voice when she isn't trying to shout. Besides this, the restaurant is very expensive considering the quality of the food. But, it can be seen the effort put into cooking it. It taste absolutely amazing.
S. W.
Exceptional Food, Staff, Service, every single time we go. My favourite restaurant in Brisbane. Love the new Valley store also, Westend is where we always end up booking. Highly recommend. Coeliac's paradise also, naturally GF. Only 2 things on menu not GF 5☆
N. G.
Awesome yakitori restaurant in West End! So many great meals here.
My favourites are the okra and oyster mushrooms off the yakitori grill, the onigiri, the wombok salad and the kari kari cheese.
Also it has a great range of sake.
Most importantly the staff are awesome and go the extra mile to make you feel comfortable.
F. M.
The food, drink selection, and service at Bird's Nest are excellent. The chicken heart skewers are my favourite. Love this style of eating, the Japanese version of Spanish Tapas. Would recommend for a special night out
D. Y.
Fantastic delicious authentic…. The charcoal grill is spectacular! Highly recommend. Staff are friendly, quick, and wonderful.
C. G.
My husband and I booked a reservation last minute on a Saturday night and we were able to be accommodated. We went with the full experience at $65 which gave us a fill array of dishes from salad, soup, salmon, skewers, desert and even sake! The salmon was such high quality and was delicious and was my husband's fav. The food overall was delicious and we didn't have to wait long at all to have the food come out. However, I found we got a lot of chicken skewers, which I was hoping for more variety. The staff were very friendly and we were lucky enough to get a seat at the window where we could watch them cook the meat which was awesome and warm to sit near.
L. L.
Amazing food! We really enjoyed our time here. The service was also spectacular. I’d definitely recommend a visit. Book ahead because they do get really busy.
C. E.
We always go to Birds Nest West End for our Anniversary every year, as that's where we had our first date. The service is always outstanding. The food...well always incredibly delicious. We order lots of different dishes to share together. So many yummy dishes to choose from. We love being able to sit and watch meals being prepared. Staff are always funny, friendly and helpful. Best food ever! Made our anniversary so special xx. Thank you!
P.
We chose the $60 set menu, great flavours, salad was bland but the scallops and the beef were exceptional. Great service, really good. Very busy but staff were great.
A. S.
A Japanese yakitori place with great atmosphere and excellent section of skewers. we didn't get the "trust the chef" set menu because we weren't feeling that hungry, but would totally try next time. Service was great as well -- ask to sit in front of the chefs if possible, great viewing!
K. W.
Ordered the 50pp set menu for 2 and whilst the chicken dishes were great and I really enjoyed the wasabi mayo that came with the karaage, I really cannot say the same about the rest. The onigiri, onions, and wangyu beef were way overdone, close to being burnt, and inedible.
Moreover, the female staff was way too aggressive, almost rude. As we entered the restaurant, a male waiter was showing us the available seats, but the female staff abruptly interrupted him and told us to sit. Moreover, she told us to pay for the bill when we hadn’t even finished eating.
Overall, didn’t have a pleasant experience at Bird’s Nest.

My favourite restaurant now, fast delicious food , whisky the size of a building , friendly staff , awesome atmosphere, 100% will be back and there should be more places like this... love it
J. H.
Really enjoyed this place for an impromptu visit. Called while walking there and they explained busy but could fit us on the big central share table, happy with that.
Arrived and greeted at the door by friendly staff. Seated and offered water on arrival. I like that this is not a kitch Japan style but more authentic setting.
Very busy but a good vibe. Setup is close quarters but feels roomy enough when seated.
Staff taking order was extremely helpful and patient to explain items further.
The meal was great, we got several plates of various things. Edamame, Karage, Grilled Tofu, Zucchini skewers, chips and beers.
Edamame, was cooked perfectly and like that it's up to me on the level of salt to apply.
Karage, was so tasty with nice side sauce etc.
Grilled Tofu had so a great flavor profile with perfect cooking technique. Quite smokey but really wholesome.
Grilled Zucchini skewers were really cooked well with that same char and smokey flavor. Again on the mouth a really simple but punchy flavor profile.
Chips were so good! Great with beer as a starter.
Asahi Black was great.
Overall I really like this place, great vibe and good food. As people say a little expensive but I think worth it as you can taste the freshness of ingreds and care taken in presentation.
Will be back.

A bustling business thriving on its unique and innovative approach to cooking a modern Japanese styled menu.
A hot-coal powered kitchen glides through the night, serving bespoke approaches to dishes which staff pay special attention to detail to, ensuring each one gets served as scrumptious as designed.
With a shell food allergy, my partner and I had the lower end (only by price) menu set and were absolutely brimful. Props to the owner's diligence, this is how businesses should operate.
E. W.
Wagyu beef and chicken skin skewers are very delicious.
B. L.
Love this little gem we stumbled across in Brisbane!! You have to visit when you need a proper Japanese fix! A great selection of contemporary and tradition Japanese skewers. Very authentic and tasty!! We tried as much dish as we could but There are still so many nice things on the menu we didn’t manage to have!! The staffs are so friendly and smiley. Love the chilled and buzzy ambience too. I had Kyoto matcha IPA and absolutely loved it. Will defo come back if we are in Brisbane again!!
K.
Absolutely delicious, pork melted in my mouth as advertised. Really nicely priced, cheap and we'll presented. Will definelty recommended this, and will return eventually.
*edit*
Returned again on 10th of June. Friendly and helpful staff, delicious food.
M. L.
Honestly, the food taste ok, but the quantity for the value was really pity. On the way home I said to my husband " I think a lot Australians have blind love for Japanese stuff. Can you imagine if other cultures's food have similar street food image with the same quality and quantity of food, what the review gonna be like?"
J. Y.
Great yakitori, we had a work lunch there and ordered most of the selection. Favorites were the chicken skin, chicken oyster, wagyu and Italian yakitori. The cabbage salad is surprisingly refreshing and delicious, great for the coming hot summer. Food was served quickly and efficiently. Highly recommended.
H. C.
Bird's Nest is always fantastic, however this was my first time for lunch and, (relatively), beer free. It was great. The staff were absolutely lovely, particularly to my young lunch guests who were coming for their 12th birthday. The food was super tasty as always, special shout out to the desserts which were very much admired, particularly the yuzu sorbet
M. T.
Lovely dinner and staff. My word of advice: order everything up front. Cooking can take some time if you stagger your orders.
Please add the japanese grilled corn on to your menu!!!
R. C.
Slow braised pork belly rice bowl was awesome but a bit fatty. Just slightly disappointed at the service. I understand it was a busy lunch service with covid distancing restrictions but it took a long time before a wait staff even acknowledged, even though a few of the staff members saw me waiting outside.
T. T.
I absolutely love this restaurant and happily take friends and family along whenever we can! Their food is always fresh & delicious and staff are fun & friendly. Keep up the great work. See you again soo!!
J. H.
A great evening, food was delicious, good atmosphere, great staff.
J. C.
Life's a full of oysters and surprises and been a chef all my life and love to taste all sorts of cuisines. But tonight it's the best BBQ kebabs that I've ever tasted and the freshest beer too. Cheers and will dine in the future again
C. L.
Had a very enjoyable night here with a group of friends. Good atmosphere, very friendly staff, tasty finger food. I enjoyed the eringi mushrooms with soy butter, the omlette with dashi, the chicken meatballs and chicken hearts and the pickled vegetables. Prices vary according to the dishes - some skewers kind of pricier than expected but there also cheaper options like the Japanese curry and rice, and chips.
Large selection of drinks available including a few more interesting non-alcoholic options (i.e not just typical soft drinks).
Restroom/toilet: There are three restrooms out the back, shared with other establishments. You need to get the key (hanging on the wall) to unlock the restrooms.
Recommend for drinks and finger food (izakaya as this place is intended to be) but not so much if you're extremely hungry and looking for a lot of food for a low-moderate price. Would be happy to visit again.
T. K.
Despite many reviews I was a little disappointed with how the set menu was because other than the wagyu skewer there was nothing that was worth going out of my way to eat here. My plate was used when I sat down and although staffs were friendly, taste factor and value factor were very low. The 50 dollar set menu was a disappointment. I would say if you were to come here just get the wagyu and the chicken with green onions (negi) probably the best and the rice ball and grilled onion were not worth it for me at all. Disappointed and wont be coming again.
A.
Wow this place is amazing! Haven't had yakitori like this anywhere in Australia. Food is slightly pricey but well worth it. The decor and atmosphere reminds me of all the restaurants in Japan. Can't wait to go back!
Make sure to call well before hand and make a booking as it is a small restaurant and gets filled up quickly
A. A.
Authentic yakitori, great staff, beautiful food, good sake. Make sure to sit at the bar to watch the grilling masters at work! Really fun vibe.
M. E.
I was here for lunch. The service was good and very quick. Overall the food was a good and provided a different variety of flavours compared to the traditional counterparts
D. S.
Awsome food and top notch service!
Everything tasted awsome and if you are unsure just ask for recommendations!
Here are some of mine Italian, Wagyu Karubi, Okra, Tomato Buta Bara!
Just go don’t hesitate if you are looking for a great dinner experience!
J. M. (.
Got the Chicken Curry lunch special for $13.
All elements were packaged so you could combine them together when you got back to the office.
Curry gravy was a home made meat based gravy with a rich flavour and chicken pieces mixed through it. The katsu was crunchy and tender.
This meal comes with a generous serve of Miso soup.
This is not your average food court curry.
P. R.
Great food -- book early or pick an earlier/later time-slot if you don't want to be there when it's packed. And if you're really hungry, go with a set-menu option for even better value.
P. R.
I had great time at this restaurant, the food was so delicious and Sake omg, really good quality. My Yakitori was delicious, chef is mastering Japanese flavours with mix of irresistible chicken. The staff is very friendly and polite. Arigatou!
K. J.
Delicious vegetarian/ vegan lunch option.
Their lunch deal offers great value and are available on Sunday too. There’s already one veg/ vegan option, the veggie skewers don(rice).
**if you’re vegan, remember to ask for no mayo.
The a la carte menu has lots of different veggie skewers too!
Very quick and friendly service.
O. J.
One of my favorite Japanese Restaurant in Brisbane! Staffs, foods, drinks and service is just great! I always have a great experience visiting Bird's Nest, lots of memories! Thank you.
B. L.
As someone who has spent a lot of time in Japan and has family ties there, I can vouch that the food here is authentic and amazingly delicious! Hands down one of the best Japanese restaurants in Brisbane!
R. j.
Ok. You will definitely walk out feeling hungry, think that's the idea. Small tasty portions. Its no smorgus board eat till u drop. The alcohol list is airport pricing.
G. T.
Really good quality food and variety of food. Slightly pricey but you pay for what you get. My personal favourite is the pork belly.
S. L.
tl;dr: Delicious, authentic Japanese yakitori with great service at a very affordable price
We used to frequent Birds Nest when they first opened and when we were still living in South Brisbane; it was one of our mid-week date night spots, pre-tv fame ("I liked them before they were cool!"), but since moving further away it's been a while since we've visited, and I'm glad to see that the quality of food and service hasn't changed.
The dinner offering is more interesting than the lunch menu (but the lunch menu is just as good, really), and I would highly recommend the omakase menu. Be adventurous, try cuts (e.g. liver, heart, arteries--which are very good, cartilage) that you'd never dream of! I love that they use chicken thigh and not breast, and for the last few years have been trying to recreate their house-made tsukemono to no success.
Emi & Marie have created and are running a slew of excellent establishments here, and you should definitely go, because mediocre pseudo-Japanese food are unfortunately too ubiquitous, and Bird's Nest is a standout.
S. J.
Such a great experience. Food was amazing highly recommend the $55 pp set. Friendly staff. Will definitely come back again
J. J.
Food is always good each time visit and few vegan options dishes are amazing
C. C.
Great atmosphere and drink options but the food was pretty average, nothing worth raving about.
T. C.
Great atmosphere, staff were fantastic despite how busy they were. Loved the drinks, and lots of options for skewers which were all so good! Definately will be back!
Z. P.
Really loved the Lotus chips, the mains, and the wine tasting sampler. Excellent service. However the only thing that disappointed me was that I made a reservation about 10 days before for a face-face table and they were too busy and must have given up our table up. So we sat in the corner. It would have been understandable if we were late, but we arrived a 10 minutes before our reservation time.
Otherwise it definitely would have been 5 stars.
Overall great experience and we would definitely come back.
W. s.
We went here for the first time last night ….Fantastic service …. And the most tasty delicious sticks …. Took us back to Japan ….. were soooo good 😊 can’t wait to go again ….. True classy Japanese style … faultless 👏
A. Y.
Great casual Japanese dining specializing in ‘skewers’ over hot coals... choose from the menu, specials or set menu options - you won’t be disappointed. Good selection of wine, Japanese beer and sake to accompany the meal.
J. W.
Great food. Great option if you don't want something heavy. Try the garlic prawns- not what you would traditionally expect but taste amazing!
A. R.
Been going for years and to several of their venues. Never had anything less than a 10/10 experience. Practically order everything on the menu each time too
M. T.
One of the best yakitori place in Brisbane, friendly staff and high quality food. Wide range of cocktail and drinks as well.
K. C.
Always excellent. Food is delicious and great value for money, really good service. Love eating here.
J. L.
Amazing food! Seriously great Yakitori. If you want good skewers cooked over hot coals then this is the place to be. Fantastic service too.
L. W.
Pre-theatre dinner with my husband and it was fantastic! We spent just over $100 with a couple of drinks each, and a dessert in the mix with the 7 dishes shared together.
The quality of food transported us back to Japan, with a definite buzz and fun friendly vibe.
We are already booking our next visit back. The staff here are very accomodating & knowledgeable about the menu also and as a vegetarian I found I still had plenty of options - I was not disappointed with anything.
There are some great dishes here even if you’re not a big fan of yakitori - although the mechanics of keeping everything cooking evenly is fantastic to watch!
Recommend recommend recommend!
R. P.
Food always perfectly grilled. Their lunch deals are also always great value, very easy to have lunch and a good drink here for the cost of just two meals elsewhere at lunch time.
D. A.
Great yakitori, buzzing atmosphere - really had an excellent feed
T. W.
Absolutely amazing dinner, worth the walk from CBD, friendly staff, proper char-grill yakatori and wonderful atmosphere, can not recommend enough
M. M.
Delicious REAL yakitori, gorgeous cocktails and fabulous service - if you haven’t been you HAVE TO go!!
F. R.
My husband and I really love this place and have been eating there for a few years now. The service is great and the food is beautiful. Good atmosphere and skewers are delicious. The pate is amazing. All very good. The only not so great thing about it is that we miss the old lunch menu. We used to go there for lunch almost every weekend. It's still good, but it was better when it had the Bincho meal, with the chicken skewers, instead of the larger gilled chicken. Please bring it back :)
I. T.
Love Bird's Nest.... the food is so delicious and the service is awesome.
We went at lunch time and got the $12 special! How good!!!!!!! Will be coming back to try the Wagyu intestines!
Definitely will be coming back.
A. L.
Went in 2019. Loved it! Great place for a casual lunch!
d. r.
The lunch specials (rice bowls) are amazing value, authentic atmosphere. Delicious
N. M.
We came for my husbands birthday and weren’t disappointed. Although busy and understaffed, the food was excellent and service provided with a smile every time. My husband and I are both coeliac, and were pleasantly surprised with the amount of food we could eat (gluten free soy is used as standard, separate fryers for gluten-free and gluten-containing foods). We can’t wait to go back again, thank you for making my husbands birthday dinner so delicious!
Z. L.
Have been a regular here for two years now and am happy to confirm their current takeaway menu is also brilliant. Fast delivery too. Can’t wait to visit again once things settle.
J. E.
Food here is great. Just hoping that there are many dipping sauce to choose from to spice up their dishes.
S. K.
Been to both Bird Nests and really enjoy the experience. I didn’t realise Misso soup could actually be yummy!
L. S.
This one is better than the one in the valley, which is a hit and miss. I always have good experience in this West end location.
J. V.
Charcoal grill was a good start... And it was good, we had a fun time. But it just fell slightly short in many ways. Some of the Yakitori wasnt quite there. The choice of plum wines and sake could have been better. Cocktails were hit and miss. Next time we will hunt for that small authentic Yakitori grill.
All that said I think it's worth a visit.
K. H.
Great food, and service is authentic. Try the set menu well worth it. Was certainly a surprise find while on holidays. Reminds me of the small restaurants that you find in the back alleys in tokyo. Food is simple but done well and served with quality Beer or sake. O highly recommend it.
S. S.
A favourite for over 3 years, Birdsnest West End has never let us down. Consistently great food, service & atmosphere. Any time we’ve requested to be seated at the bar we have been accommodated. The food is divine, especially the king oyster mushroom, hakusai salad & the chicken skin!
We always look forward to dinner when we go to Birdsnest!
M. S.
Amazing! 5 stars for service, food and pricing. An unbeatable choice if you want fresh flavourful healthy food and a relaxed welcoming atmosphere.
We loved it as a couple but I’ve had great meals with a group of friends (including kids) and even a quick business lunch.
In a sea of other options that deliver average food and indifferent service Birds Best is refreshingly wonderful.
Thank you!
J. T.
Might not as good as it in Japan. But defiantly the best in brisbane.
A. L.
Always busy, but it worth waiting! Can’t remember its name and highly recommended!
N. M.
Have had a couple really great dine in experiences but unfortunately the takeaway menu is a little boring and the quality of the takeaway food is not as good as the dine in.
T. O.
Beautiful service, delicious food, great prices, what’s not to like?
A. L.
Ordered the chicken skewer lunch special which had 3 chicken skewers, rice, veges and pickles and miso soup for $12, I also added karaage and a poached egg which came to a total of $17. The chicken skewers were cooked very nicely where the outside was charring and inside was nice and juicy, the skewer marinade sauce was very tasty. There was unlimited rice and miso which is good if you can eat a lot of rice and can portion your meats. A very satisfying lunch and I am excited to try the dinner skewers!
R. P.
Great food and atmosphere. Friendly staff who looked after us vegans!
J. C.
Went recently to celebrate our mum's birthday and had the most wonderful time. Food and drink were on point and our server had plenty of fun personality to boot. Will definitely return and easily recommend it to anybody looking for a hearty and classy meal.
J. M.
Fabulous food specially loved the cocktails. Lauren is very confident with her knowledge and skills behind the bar. We had a great night and look forward to going back again soon.
B. H.
My 3 daughters and I had THE most amazing feast celebration dinner for my 46th birthday last night and we are already looking forward to coming back soon!! Morgan was a fabulous and attentive host and we LOVED all of our food! Especially the Bao Buns & garlic prawns ❤️
A. R.
As always great food and great atmosphere...well done Team Birds Nest.
S. B.
Party of 8, for a dual birthday celebration. Food was impeccable as usual, really interesting Japanese craft beers and friendly service. Such tender and delicious skewers!
We love this place, been many times but it was a first for our guests. They loved it as well, new fans!
B.
REALLY AWESOME PLACE!!!
Nice staff, Amazing tasty food:>
B. B.
Amazing. Loved the Wagyu skewers, Lotus root chips, and ice cream the most! Definitely coming back!!!
E. D.
Great value lunch specials! Try the wagu with avocado 🥑
D.
Good food and service and lovely ambience.
Really enjoyed it 😊
J.
Another great meal from Bird's Nest ☺️
All of our skewers were tasty and beautifully cooked. Great service from friendly staff. Always a pleasure
H. S.
Lovely food, great service, warm, cosy and buzzing environment.
D. R.
My wife and I had the $40pp set. All the food was beautiful, the service was terrific, the total vibe was awesome, the staff super friendly and efficient, everyone smiling and loving their jobs, we had a sensational visit and will definitely be back (we live on the Sunshine Coast).
For us, the only downside was that the food came too quickly and we filled up too quickly. We had to take the last three dishes home, which made a beautiful meal the following night
t.
Food is amazing and doesnt take too long to get the food after ording even when fully booked. My personal fav is the bao buns as the chicken is so crispy and fresh with a nice soft bun. Food is just quality and delicious
S.
I really am not too sure what the fuss is about. Food is nice but not raving good. The place was far too packed in the current climate. Banquet was however filling. If you get the chance to try the chicken broth rice for $7, one of the best things I tasted off the menu. Wouldn't go rushing back.
D. W.
Always my favorite Japanese restaurant! So far every food that I tried from there has been really good. They have the best noodles and sushi around!
N. L.
Gorgeous little spot we stumbled upon looking for a nice romantic dinner on a Thursday night. Awesome staff, very knowledge bartender. Insanely good food. Highly recommend. Authentic and delicious in every way. Worth it. Will definitely be back, thank you so much to the awesome staff. You guys are doing amazing.
S. D.
Lovely staff; very friendly, fast and on point. Food was absolutely stunning!
Only negative I have is that the toilet facility I visited didn't have any soap/handwash at all.
I wasnt sure if that should have a bigger impact on my rating to be honest, but everything else was -so- good, I had to give them the benefit of the doubt <3
i. l.
Food was great and always has been great, however one thing really turned me off during my lunch visit that day. I ordered a soft drink which was 4.50 and they did not even have the decency to give me the whole can of drink. I saw the waiter fill half the glass with ice and fill up the soda in the glass ( mind you the glass was tiny and i am pretty sure there was half a can of drink left as instead of throwing the can away he kept it on the counter.) Really dissappointed by this service.
A. S.
Wonderful experience for lunch with my wife. The service was great, and we enjoyed trying most of the skewers menu. It was especially nice to watch the chef grill the skewers in front of us, as a result my wife and I are pondering buying a hibachi grill for use at dinner parties at home. We can’t wait to go back.
Y. T.
Absolutely delicious! It was the best meal we’ve had in a long time. Every skewer we tried was cooked perfectly and my young sons loved them too. Great family meal, fun vibe, all ‘round good time.
J. W.
Another amazing dinner at Bird's Nest. Food was incredible and we tried both specials and several other dishes they were all delicious. Service as always very efficient, friendly and professional. They make my 95 y.o. Mother feel like royalty and we love the whole experience. Took my Uncle and Aunt for their first time at Bird's Nest and they can't wait to come back again. Recommend this to everyone of every age.
M. L.
Japan’s food is a wonderful choice when you visit west end, in Brisbane Australia. Brisbane australia is a must do in Australia, a modern regular size city with everything included.
There is a big variety of restaurants, parks, the city beach, the Riveside walks, the free city hoper, to do a free tour in Brisbane river, that takes you to new farm.
The south back walk, the museum’s, the weather that is the best in Australia, except for a couple of very hot day during summer, the rest of the year weather is amazing. There is so much more, that brisbane can Ofer to locals life and tourist.
R. C.
Super cool interior design with a promising variety of various skewered meats and veges. We tried the thigh, chicken heart and the Willi Willi pork. Best was probably the heart. It was super flavourful and their chilli powder is super fragrant!
Was quite busy so it did take quite a while for food to come out. Beverages were quick however. Were also provided with free edamame beans. Staff were very attentive and friendly.
I. M.
Really love this place! Second time and it won’t be the last! Tasty lunches & great tap beers thanks
L. L.
Absolutely did the most to accommodate us coming in so late, the food was quick and so good
L. L.
We had never been there before and went based on the aroma as we walked by. It serves a range of kebab style food so you can order as much or as little as you need. They have a very good range of Japanese Sake, beer and whiskeys. It was so good we went back the next night for dinner. We had a group of eight people and everyone was impressed by the food. The bonus was having so many gluten free options - really wish I lived closer!
Y. W.
Great value especially the lunch special, came here a few times already, the only complaint is that the bbq's quality is not very consistent, there is once one of my family member felt her beef is a bit burnt.
H. B.
The food was amazing. The staff were very good and knowledgeable however, we felt they stood in a little close. One had the sniffles and today I have woken up with a head cold. Normally I wouldn’t think anything of it but with covid I’m all a bit sensitive.
Will definitely be back as I love the place but please don’t get complacent. You have good distancing between customers please remind staff to do what they can as well.
w. F.
Amazing yakatori. Wonderful delights to appease your taste buds. Saki range is vast. As well as saki tasting nights. Jazz is often playing in house, check the website but live jazz nights were a thing there too in west end.
Fantastic food and service. Highly reccommend.
Edit,
We have been there every month for years and its always incredible. Every single time!
J. P.
Love Birds Nest Yakitori, the chicken thigh, skin and hearts are the best!
N. G.
Fantastic food and very attentive staff, we wanted for nothung
M. H.
Was a good lunch but did not get our miso soup as part of our meal.
C. N.
We didn't have a reservation however they were very accommodating and they managed to get us a table. As soon as we entered we entered we were gifted with such a laidback and tantalising atmosphere. The smell of yakitori over the hot smoking coals, the warm greeting we got from the staff and it didn't take long for the food to arrive. We weren't sure what to order so we took the $60 pp banquet. We got to taste a bit of everything and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. All the dishes were perfectly cooked, and presented with love and precision. Simply outstanding. Will be coming back for sure.
B. A.
Delicious authentic yakitori, best we've had since we've been to Japan. It was very busy but staff were so attentive and helpful, they did a brilliant job.
L. E.
Great value lunch deal, main, side and unlimited miso for $15!
M. C.
We tried a mixture of traditional and modern skewers and they were all amazing. The staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely come back!
S. H.
Thanks to the wonderful staff and chefs in the kitchen, our birthday dinner was fantastic! It truly was a beautiful feast, we enjoyed it so much we are already planning our next visit.
L. T.
Had an amazing dinner! The breakfast in Kyoto cocktail was especially great if you love a delicious citrus drink!
B.
I go to this restaurant every month. It is the most incredible, and authentic Japanese I’ve ever had. Absolutely lovely staff & the prices for the food quality is just amazing. Even the interior is beautiful. Cannot recommend a better place for a meal/drinks.
R. M.
We had been looking forward to visiting Birds Nest for a few years (we live out of town) and finally we made it .. and it didn’t disappoint in any aspect. The food was delicious, every dish was great. The atmosphere was vibrant and positive, the staff all seemed genuinely happy to be there and they were very intuitive to what you needed without being intrusive. We can’t wait to go back and experience it again.
K. B.
Excellent yakitori (actually everything is amazing) and the staff are wonderful 😄
L. N.
Wow, what a menu! We ordered the set menu and had to bring a LOT of it home. It's very reasonable pricing for such a large banquet, especially in such a fancy area and restaurant. I would definitely recommend the place!
N. K.
Amazing food, fantastic value for money. I’ve been raving to everyone all day about how yummy dinner was. I will be back…soon!! Craving more scallops. 👌👌👌
S. W.
I had a couple of screws in this restaurant...and absolutely made me so full. The best part was the Italian screws.
E. K.
Friendly staff and great food!!
E. J.
Consistently great food. Great service. Great prices. One of my absolute favourites!! You won't be disappointed!! Book a table and enjoy!
D. l.
Always amazing dining here, staff are lovey and the food is sooo good! We ordered the $60 set and it was a good deal and most of my faves included. Felt very happy and full after :) #satisfied
J. S.
Delicious! Delightful! Outstanding!
10 Stars for Service, beautiful fresh and scrumptious food.
Marie and her girls are a well organized , happy and friendly team. Communicating with each other ALL the time as to what customer need this or that so no one left waiting. The restaurant was packed ( with reason!!) yet we didn't need to ask for anything, promptly brought our selected meals to us, topped up our drinks and made time to answer our questions.
Looked around and saw equally happy and satisfied customers.
We are from Northside and not been to Bird Nest before but had heard it was good... it was not good, it was GREAT...!!!! Do yourself a favour , put Birds Nest on your Must Do List.
Thanks for a Fabulous evening ladies 😎🤩😍😁
K. W.
Amazing food. The Mushroom skewers were phenomenal! Cooked over hot coals is simple, tasty and something a little different.
The staff are lovely and knowledgeable.
The atmosphere is relaxed but with a really great energy.
L.
From the moment of arrival, service was excellent. Food was delicious, wine was great and staff were lovely and prompt. Thank you for a great meal!
M. S.
Amazing dinner as usual when we come here. Brought friends this time a day they loved it also and want to come back. Ordered delivery through the lock down and food was also perfect, beer even arrives cold. Cannot fault
J. D.
The food was fantastic. The pork was melt in your mouth tender and the pickled cabbage was so refreshing. The bottomless miso soup was a pleasant surprise. It was also delicious. The food was prepared in quick time. And the staff are so friendly too. A fantastic lunch experience.
B. R.
Went to the Bird's Nest Restaurant for lunch, it was the first time I had been there and can truly say that the service and food were excellent. Courteous and friendly staff and such a variety of succulent food. I am happy to recommend this restaurant and will be going back very soon .. Bruce Wonders
C. H. T.
food is just awesome and great ambience for izakaya
W. L.
A gorgeous Japanese yakitori bar with a great atmosphere and very attentive staff. The menu was exquisite and although we didn't go with the Chef's Picks it was really delicious and we would most definitely drop by again in the future. It's a great location for a date, an after work dinner or a place to try some scrumptious Japanese cuisine
T. V.
The set menu was delicious. The staff were fantastic. The cocktails were delicious
T. L.
Definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants I have ever visited in Australia. I took my wife and 1.5 yo son two weeks ago on a weekend trip, based on a recommendation from a colleague at work. I had their mushroom and vegetable skewers, which tasted great. My wife had chicken skewers and tofu. But to me, the best of all was their wombok salad. It was up there by all standards. The crew were also great, they were very attentive and engaging. We came out happy and satisfied. A great dining experience. The place looked small from the outside, but it felt quite spacious inside even with a stroller on the side. I strongly recommend this place, and we will definitely come back whenever we're in Brisbane.
M. d. J.
It was excellent! We loved everything we ate.
S. N.
Lovely restaurant with a warm comfortable atmosphere. Staff were incredibly friendly and all our needs were taken care of. The food was absolutely delicious and of a high quality, although a little pricey. The way the menu was set out was a little difficult to wrap our heads around. But other than that I can not fault the experience.
J. H.
Delicious food and great vibe. Came here with a large group and we had one of the banquet options which were a great way to taste a bit of everything. Will happily come back again.
J. K.
We had supper here on a saturday night and would highly recommend it! The yakitori is grilled with care, well seasoned and was delicious. The chicken thigh and heart skewers were juicy, smoky and tender, the chicken skin was super crisp! We also had a cabbage side salad and rice with soup which were generously sized and standard fare.
M. D.
Fantastic atmosphere and service. A good selection of sewer, a little disappointed in the taste. The meat balls were a tad dry and most dishes lacked the hit of flavors. Not sure if I'm to critical but expected more for the price. Wasn't "wowed". May go back with friends and family as the place and service was exceptional but wouldn't go back just for the food.
I. H.
Absolutely amazing and authentic yakitori, spectacular service, and Asahi Black on tap. Nuff said.
S. C.
Excellent dining with plenty of options for vegetarians. Really enjoyed the tofu and the zucchini.
Good selection of drinks including whiskeys. Will definitely return.
E. H.
I had the wagu bowl. It's was very nice
L. C.
Enjoyed a range of different yakatori skewers including chicken tenderloin with wasabi mayo, shitake mushroom and even chicken hearts. Very tasty but not cheap at ~$11 for two skewers. Also not comparable to what you'd find in Japan.
M. &. M. M.
We have been impressed with the uniqueness of Bird's Nest from the very first moment we walked in.Their service is excellent and their food taste absolutely divine. We stumbled upon Bird's Nest about 3 years ago, and have returned to Bird's Nest for almost every special occasion since. We can't wait to go back and experience once more the Bird's Nest hospitality and delicious foods.
E. P.
Great place to come for a bite to eat with friends. The lunch deals were good value for money and easy to share between people. Miso soup and rice were a nice touch and the waiter was very attentive in refilling our water. Food was tasty, if anything maybe a touch overcooked, however the variety was fantastic.
M. L.
What a fantastic little restaurant. Wonderful staff & beautiful authentic food. Would recommend it to everyone 😊
D. S.
Food was excellent, service was prompt and accurate. Will definitely be going back again
J. L.
Nice food
Good service
J. U.
Dont sleep on the wagyu, or the offal skewers! Probably spend $70 for my partner and I, mind you we over order a LOT. Don’t forget to try the wagyu brisket, my personal favourite.
N. N.
Love this place! The food here is oishī ! Great service, very friendly. My girlfriend and I always sit at the bar so we can watch them cook. It's a little tight on seating so if there's a few of you make a reservation. Highly recommend!!
E. L.
This place makes the best yakitori I have tried. I have had both the restaurant and the take out versions and they are both excellent. I can highly suggest there delivery services. My delivery was just as and tasty as good and tasty as my in restaurant experience and I hope you all continue supporting this excellent restaurant x.
A. E.
Such an amazing Yakitori restaurant! Probably one of my favorite spots in Brisbane. The meat is amazing and the atmosphere is electric. Great, hard working staff! A bit pricey but you definitely see, feel and taste where your money is going!
V. “.
Went for lunch on Saturday, $12 meals and really yummy. Grilled chicken on coal tastes really good which is served with rice and picked veggies. I asked for some changes in my dish and they were very accommodating. Bottomless rice and miso soup. The miso soup was delicious and satisfying.
M. L.
Three years ago I went there with my girlfriend and got amazed. Now I’m back to Brisbane, still with my beloved one, and this place was just as the good old time. Only pity was that the chef back in 2015, a handsome gentleman, wasn’t there for the nice catch-up. Probably it’s because he’s busy with the new shop in Fortitude Valley? Anyway, with you THE BEST with your cooking, service and money. Will be back again.
J. S.
Loved it! Fresh and tasty, I had 3 different meat skewers and 2 veggies, all delicious. Staff was very friendly and helpful and gave a great recommendation for a Japanese whisky. Definitely recommend it!
S. M.
We had a Saturday lunch at the Bird’s Nest located on Ann Street in the Valley. There was good seating and a nice feel to the place. The lunch menu had ample options with packages that were great value. There was an emphasis on meat on skewers (Yakitori) and lots of accompaniments and nibble food. The staff were pleasant and helpful. Street parking can be a challenge but there are two large parking stations nearby. Lots of gluten free options and toilets available. Great value if you crave Yakitori.
L. H.
Nice Japanese restaurant, skewers were awesome. The price was a little bit expensive, but worthy anyway👍
V. C.
Everything was DELICIOUS! Lovely service. A must try!
E. B.
Amazing quality and range of food I would definitely recommended for the special occasions in your life. The cocktails are great as well. All in all a great night out.
J. F.
Great food and super friendly service. Highly recommended.
M. M.
A fantastic lunch today. Everything was delicious!
M. L.
It is very authentic with excellent service and casual, snacking style of vibe. It's classy, but relaxed and serves food later than most other venues in the area. Food is very good but it's also very expensive. In terms of value, this must be one of the most expensive restaurants in Brisbane. It made me feel very nostalgic for Japan but the prices will prevent me going there regularly.
B.
This seriously was THE BEST we have had in Brisbane. The service, the food, the staff and Owner were just beyond 5 stars. True authentic Japanese and you just couldnt decide which of the dishes was better. Emi you have truly got a gift and a beautiful business. We will be back!!!
G.
a great atmosphere, Great food and we always enjoy ourselves at bird nest.
T. N.
We had an amazing experience at Bird’ Nest, the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable about the various umeshu on offer. The food was delicious and beautifully presented; well worth the price, they've defiantly earned a repeat customer.
O. B.
One of the few places you can dine alone and you won't look out of place or feel weird. Staff are attentive and pleasant to talk to. Food is tasty, I would recommend the Beef Kalbi skewers. For cocktails, the Budou is very nice. Keep in mind that the bill does add up.
y. n.
Great selection of take away and frozen packed food. Free delivery around brisbane is a big bonus!
Chicken thigh shallot, Wombok salad and egg omelette are my top 3 favourite 🔥must try 💪
J. G.
A bit expensive for dinner but amazing yakitori and miso soup nevertheless. Service has always been top tier and the restaurant is lovely. The lunch specials are great value for money. Their fries are great and their sake even better.
S. M.
This is so amazing, only been to west end store, everything on menu is gluten free naturally except one curry.
The Edeame Beans ohmygoodness, and Chick Broth to start!
Then choose maybe 4 different skewers.
Have been here to many times to count. Service is just amazing, food is just wow!
Highly highly recommended
T. B. R.
Live music on a saturday and the lunch deals are so good!
A.
Our fav restaurant in Brisbane. Great tasting yakitori with imaginative flavours. Best part is how it comes in a pair of skewers to share, we don't overeat but get so many different taste experiences!
J. T.
It's the larger of the two restaurants - the other one is in Fortitude Valley. Food here is still very good and the staff are quite friendly. However, it's very much busier here and not really enough staff so wait times can get a bit long. Also, the table arrangements mean that it's a bit more crowded than the other. However, it's better for larger groups.
K. S.
We have been here five times and the food and service is amazing.
We only wish it was closer to our house because we would be regulars.
Thanks so much to the staff for making our anniversary a wonderful night.
J. J.
Now dining here for the second time in one week and everything we have experienced so far has been absolutely incredible. The best miso and tsukune I have ever had the the Buta Bara is out of this world. The rice balls are some of the most flavoursome things I’ve ever had the pleasure to eat.
Thank you, so much for this experience. New favourite place to eat.
R. o.
The atmosphere was great as was the food but the service was excellent, thanks for a lovely night.
J. F.
Did have to wait to be greeted but service after that was good. Food was amazing very subtle but complimentary flavours unlike so many places in Brizzy. Portions are small for price but the ingredients are great quality. This is the kind of food you might find in London or New York. Get in there don't get your knickers in q knot over a 5 min wait
R. G.
My absolute favourite spot in West End. You must try the Wagyu skewers. You know it’s good because they’re fully booked during the week. Trust me. Go here.
T. N. M. T.
One of my favorite restaurants in West End! They have another branch in the city. Never disappoint 👌🏻 best ones are the chicken meatballs and skin, as well as the quail eggs.
M. J.
Great yakitori and fantastic service! brought back memories of Japan! Its a bit on the pricier side if you make a full dinner out it, better to go for a drink or two from their extensive drinks menu and some snacks. Try the fried chicken skins and the chicken tail skewers! So scrumptious! Four stars only because would love to see more fish on the menu, grilled fresh little fish (e.g. sardines) are a regular item on yakitori menus in Japan, it wouldve topped the night!
L. M.
Delicious variety of skewers from chicken, pork belly and Wagyu. All flavoursome dishes that park well with a sip a warm Sake
M.
Great vibe. Great customer service. Went there during Halloween and all the staff dressed up. The real highlight was the food. It was amazing. I recommend this restaurant :) maybe go during the week so getting a park won't be a drama. Not the restaurants fault tho. Great food and great 🍻
s. s.
Good Japanese food, but not cheap
M.
Not quite as well cooked compared to fortitude branch... but still good with even better service.
G. S.
Absolutely great Japanese restaurant.
The mains were big, great and friendly staff and high quality ingredients.
Thank you
K. G.
My wife and I had to wait 3 years after watching these wonderful ladies win The Hotplate competition to visit their restaurant.
We traveled from Perth to Brisbane and while there we visited their Fortitude Valley Restaurant for lunch and they didn’t disappoint.
Wonderful atmosphere and the food is amazingly good and very well priced
The staff are very good at what they do, very friendly and professional
Only disappointment was we didn’t get to meet Emi or Marie.
Highly recommend anyone to try their food out
Next time we are in Brisbane we will definitely be having dinner at The Birdsnest restaurant
Well done ladies and keep up the good work.
P. S.
An enjoyable restaurant with helpful staff and a great menu. The setting is intimate, skewers are tasty and an excellent selection of sake and whisky is available (and beer). Worth a visit with friends.
S.
Sushi was excellent. Yaki Soba average ,.. This is sadly when compared to Waggamama, a generic japanese chain, popular in London. Beer a little expensive... London price. Service good, but not flexible.
T. H.
Got the "full experience" chef's selection for 65pp. Everything was good, and the salmon sashimi entree and okra skewers were fantastic. Great service.
k. p.
I love this place, and so does my husband. There isn’t another place that makes yakitori as tasty as this place. Buts Bura (pork belly) and Susami (Chicken tenderloins) are consistently excellent. We’ve been coming here every time we’re in Brisbane for the past 6 years and now live here, we’ll be in more often!
L.
Delicious food. More than enough when you order the preset banquets. Personally not a fan of the deserts, but that just comes to taste, as everyone else loved them. Definitely recommend.
T. K.
Awesome food, great beer. The service was excellent. Can’t wait to go back.
P. K.
Tasty authentic Japanese food. Good atmosphere on the restaurant.
M. W.
Amazing food and service, the waitress we had was amazing and attentive. The lunch time specials are a great price, I would definitely come here again due to the atmosphere and also a great place to take friends.
J. P.
My bf and I went there for dinner. Got really lucky to be seated on the bench behind the glass watching the charcoal BBQ and chef. Our favourites were braised pork belly, chicken gizzards and rice ball.
As long as they maintain the current price of roughly $10 for 2 skewers, we are more than happy to come back.
M. W.
Food was delicious. I have to go back to try some more off the menu. Cute restaurant and lovely friendly staff
i. w.
One of the highlights of my Brisbane trip. Delicious & authentic foods. Warm & friendly service. Beautiful decor. Overall, great atmosphere & experience.
R. A.
Almost gave up on this place to head for vegerama next door. Had a booking but waited 30min, saw others leaving as they got frustrated. But, alas the food is worth the wait.
The waiting system is somewhat disorganised, and waiters were very overworked. Would do excellent if they had a touch ordering system, which could cut them some slack.
The atmosphere was pleasant, hustle bustle, but still able to hear each other speaking. Skewers tastes amazing, especially the tsukune. Wait staff were very friendly when they finally had time to come round.
M. R.
Amazing, cozy restaurant! They specialize in skewers and we decided to share their combo plate. They were so good! We got a second plate, devoured those, and then got a few side dishes too which were very good!
G. H.
Nice tasting food but relatively simple but pricy skewers. The meal was also a bit rushed with everything comming out at the same time. The wine was expensive for what is a Cafe styled restaurant
B. L.
Delicious and authentic
H. Y.
A great option for izakaya style eating in West End. Can't fault the quality of the skewers & options. Very satisfying lunch sets as well. Quirky staff at times which is always entertaining..
J. B.
Always great food with fantastic service. Especially love the plum wines on offer!
R. P.
Great food and excellent service from Mai
B.
Definitely Good mood. Mediocre food which i feel is over priced to be honest. Schewers were salty in general but other than that its ok. But again, i would ne eating here paying $40-50 pp
H. N.
Great food and great service. The staff were very friendly and helped explained the process for us. We will definitely be returning to try out the rest of the menu that we didn't get to.
T. P.
Really wanted to go here since seeing the ladies on TV cooking show. Really enjoyed our tapas. Loved the quail eggs & the mixed skewers. Will definitely return. Service very helpful & friendly
R. A.
Great experience overall. The Asahi is ice cold, dishes hot, tasty and tender.
For groups/ to minimise time between dishes, choose a set menu
G. H.
Excellent staff. Very friendly and accommodating. Very clean restaurant. Impressive food. Excellent service. Cannot fault.
C. S.
Amazing place, tasty food and wonderful staff. Loved it! Highly recommended! ❤️❤️

A great welcome! A smiling staff and present without having to wait a second !!! The food is really good with unusual perfumes for European but still excellent !!! I highly recommend this warm and nice place !!!
R.
Went for lunch, stood at the door with no one coming to serve/greet you.
Mediocre service, staff was not particularly friendly.
Food-wise, I ordered the Chicken Karage lunch set.
Salad: Great sauce
Agedashi Tofu: Soggy skin, great suace
Karage Chicken: Very tender, very yummy chicken, but the skin was soggy, with too much coating, not crispy at all.
Soup: Average
Rice: Undercooked, way too hard, even for japanese standards.
For 15$, 3 stars.

Could not fault Birds Nest Restaurant. Delicious food, lovely staff and gorgeous restaurant fit out. This place is an awesome addition to the West End food scene. Loved it and will be back!! :)
W. C.
Amazing flavors! A busy, loud kind of restaurant (typical of a yakitori & bar) A little confusing on your first visit but the staff will help you out. One of the best places I've eaten in Brisbane in 2016.
M. L.
Totemo oishi! I know, i am not japanese and i probably spelled that wrong, but the food is delicious in any language! Place is beautifully designed and decorated. Everything about my experience here exuded quality. The menu looks packed full of very different and tasty things to try. I just tried a couple on a date with my wife, blew me away enough to write a review. Will most probably be back!
H. O.
Definitely, my best lunch of the year 2019!
J. Y.
Ordered takeaway and was offered soup while waiting by the waitress. Excellent service, would recommend!
D. B.
Had a great meal and great company for my sons birthday! Such a pleasure being able to get back to dining with you guys again!
J.
Birds Nest is always a win for me. Delicious yakitori, beer (even matcha flavoured!) and fabulous service every single time.
M. S.
A must go Japanese Yakitori (grilled chicken) place in Brisbane. The food is really yummy and service is same as back in Japan. They are grilling chicken on charcoal fire which adds a really delicious flavour to it. Also have range of Japanese sake and beer.
D. W.
What a fantastic dinner!! Such beautiful food and great value. And a special thank you to Nick for hand picking all our sake 😋 we loved all three!!
C. M.
Always enjoy the food and the ambience at Bird's Nest and the staffs are always friendly and attentive. Will definitely dine in the restaurant again.
B. W.
I have now eaten here several times and the food seems to get better each time. Special mention to the king of Yakitore Dokuyong. Thank you for the great service.
M. F.
Great food and great service. The yakitori was amazing - like being in Tokyo's little lanes. Definitely recommend 🥢
C. 2.
Friend staffs happy to change appt time for us with short notice
Amazing foods made me feel like I’m back in Japan
A. S.
Delicious food. Friendly staff - even when they had to remind us that our booking time was finished.
R. L.
This place is great, the staff are extremely friendly and attentive. Delicious menu for snacking, the Bo-tsukune with wasabi is awesome. Big drinks beer, umensu and sake list. Will be coming back.
S. G.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Best of all, they cook late. They're open until 12, and I've often been still ordering at 10:30 or 11:00 at night.
M. A.
Amazing food and service. Thank you Morgan!
G. D.
Fabulous food, great service, absolutely enjoyed. Will definitely return.
S. C.
Nice small place; very great atmosphere with drinks and tonnes of people. nice little small bites of food. Definitely recommend getting the chefs recommendation and trying a bit of everything.
S. G.
Went to Tatsu Yakitori next door to Birds Nest which I assume is part of the same operation. The food was terrific, beautifully cooked and presented but the service was amazing - probably quickest I've had in a few years. Will most definitely be back. Sake for the road was perfect. Can't really fault it.
Z. R.
Never had a bad meal here. The pickled onions are so simple, yet amazing. Ocra skewers and sake is a must with every meal!
m.
Beautiful Japanese food. Traditional Japanese beer from tap was delicious. Venue is great and the service was spot on. Will be back for sure. Cheers Bird's Nest!
M. P.
I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could. Food has lifted to another level. Highly recommend you check out Birds Nest. Service is always second to none.
T. G.
Great food. Local acoustic singer is really good. Staff are friendly and engaging. Prices are cheapish :)
G. W.
Great Yakitori restraunt. Have been here a few times. Immensely enjoyed the great flavours. Staff and service great. Will be returning for sure.
B. S.
While the food was tasty it ended up being quite an expensive meal and dont feel like it was good value for money. When settling our bill i didnt appreciate the waitress then asking for a tip.
S. B.
Fantastic Venue! 17/20
Finally for the Adventurous Foodie in Brisbane. Paleo, Vegetarian and Gluten Friendly. A good range of Sake and Beers. Perfect if you are taking a work group out, dining solo or perfect for a date night. Its fresh, full of flavor and entertaining. Please understand it is a JAPANESE SKEWER BAR. It is something different to the normal Aussie pub steak and two vege. Highly recommend the Pate, Tamago Cabbage to start and 10 skewer selection if you want to cover all bases. So many vege skewers and options that fussy eaters are looked after too. Service was good as we were at the bar and chef looked after us like a gem. If you want an experience! I Recommend!
G. K.
Great atmosphere, staff and food!
J. C.
My girlfriend and I absolutely love coming to Bird's Nest. The staff are warm and friendly, food is delicious and the sake menu is extensive. Atmosphere is chill and relaxed.
P. B.
Great food, good service, nice location
M. K.
Awesome staff and great Japanese food. I have been coming here for years and the food has always been great and the service has always been great.
J. M.
Seriously yummy food and wonderful service. The staff were really friendly and helpful, and we certainly did not leave hungry! Would highly recommend.
C. B.
Noisy, fun Japanese restaurant that focuses on meat! Meat and beer.
The food was very well prepared and delicious. The beer was cold.
Excellent combination.
T. W.
Great food - tender & succulent. Great friendly service. Excellent value for money.
n. l.
Fantastic quality food. Enjoyed the whole experience. Will definitely go again. The environment is traditional japanese with fine chefs. Thank you.
A. P.
Nice meals and pretty good value. We found the floor a bit slippery though; one of our party fell onto the ground when the bar stool she was on skidded backwards :S
B. Y.
$12 lunch deals daily with unlimited rice and miso soup. Good food, good service, might be a little busy on weekends.
C. P.
Great food. So many ways to serve chicken! All yummy. Service efficient and friendly. Very busy on a mid week night.
S. S.
I had a really enjoyable experience. If you're not into "skewers" don't go but the set menu provided a fab soup, selection of meat skewers, saki and dessert which was just fabulous 😀
M. L.
Great meal, good service, not terribly expensive.
S. B.
Good food but a bit overpriced. Yakitori in Japan has a reputation of being cheap Street good. This was anything but, at over $100 for three people and we weren't even that hungry.
A. C.
One of our favourite restaurant in Brisbane. We love everything about this place, from their skewers, to the great service and atmosphere, along with their awesome sake and Japanese beer.
J. J.
I like the way they bring yakitory combo. I thought they would bring 7 skewers all together but they don't. It's nice sitting there waiting for next skewer! Would be a good place for night snack with drinks.
m.
I assume no one was expecting the enormous spill over from the so called "Japanese Food Festival", a.k.a- "Wanna put a deposit on a West Village unit?". The staff did a great job of keeping on top of things. Will definitely come back when things aren't so busy.
J. B.
Love this restaurant. Cosy, and the food is incredibly tasty. Staff are very friendly. Be careful of the chilli salt they put out to sprinkle alongside the other salt : it is very HOT!
G. W.
Great little spot on a Saturday. We have a pram with us and enjoyed a Saturday night out
W.
I'm here at least twice a month. Best Yakitori in Brisbane and service is always quick and friendly. Asahi on tap and a nice selection on the menu
H. Y.
Nice place for gathering with beer🍻
j. s.
Ordered takeaway on phone and told it would take 5 to 10 minutes. I Arrived at restaurant 10 minutes later, paid for food and waited another 10 minutes... Food still not ready... Still waiting... Food finally came and I upgrade from 1 to 3 stars because meal quite good.
C. “.
Lovely staff and amazing food!
C. T.
Great service, tasty food! I sat at the counter and was made to feel very welcome as a solo diner.
C. E.
Decently priced, lovely service, very genuine setting and wonderful food. Definitely one of my favourites!
S. P.
We were in a group of 7....the food was great but unfortunately the way they served the food to us was very disorganised and staff were just dumping our food at the end of the table and we didn't know who was supposed to have what. We would not go back unless the service was better for a group.
C. J.
Fantastic service Delicious food. Great place to chill and Enjoy 💯
T. S.
Cozy place for dinner. Good food. Friendly staffs. Girls, you might need to wash your hair after the meal.
R. S.
Lovely, tasty and simple lunch

V. P.
Delicious! This place was recommended to me by multiple people, and did not disappoint!
J. M.
Very friendly staff. Delicious food. Some of the Japanese beers were insanely expensive.
J. K.
Fun decor and atmosphere....very friendly and attentive staff....good selection of reasonably priced sake...and extremely well cooked and delicious yakitorrie...partner and I got through 24..:) would have got 5 stars but waited 35min after we ordered with no food delivered.. ...only to find out they had lost our initial order...and then had same problem with our desert order....frustrating and dissappointing as wanted to give 5 star - definitely worth a try....
M. A.
Fun, would like to try again. Had a set menu and enjoyed it thoroughly. Want to try the chef's selection next time.
M. H. V.
Always good casual place for some drinks and delicious skewers, highly recommended!
S. W.
Authentic Japanese izakaya offering fast efficient service. Good yakitori and atsuage fried tofu. Good selection of Japanese beers and spirits. Expensive

A. d. W.
Beautiful Japanese food but expensive. The Menu was difficult to understand. Staff were friendly and efficient. Parking difficult and venue was noisy.

Great service.
Been here often.
Abit exy m, only because food is good and takes time to cook right on order.
Satisfied experience.
C. C.
Food is great but service is soso. Waited for 20 mins for someone to come and take our orders.
O. L.
Fine place for tasty Japanese food. You will not find better rice or fish anywhere! It’s as good as it gets!
J. D.
Asahi black on tap and delicious little skewers! Get to try many different flavours in one meal which is always great!
J. W.
Mostly pricey food, but some solid budget options. Very high quality eats and great atmosphere
D. P.
Delicious skewers and drinks. Not so much here for vegetarians, but the mushrooms are a must! Nice atmosphere, though a bit overpriced for what you get.
K.
Very good real Japanese style food
Expensive but understandable
Taste like Japan but in Brisbane
Recommend for having good time here

This would be the best Japanese Yakitori place in Brisbane. The food is fantastic and the service is exactly as you would see in Tokyo. Its a great authentic experience.

Always so delicious and the young guy who looked after my daughter and I yesterday was very helpful and kind 😊

Mixed skewers. Some were amazing, some were not so amazing. Overall though this was a nice restaurant if not a little expensive for what you get.

Food is good but the portion sizes are too small. A bit pricy for what you pay for.
L. T.
A little pricey for the portions, but delicious nonetheless. The staff were friendly and professional and the atmosphere was very intimate
A. M.
Food is delicious. Service is a let down and even after booking a table didn't get seated until 15 minutes later.
M. M.
Very nice restaurant, good menu selection and great tasting, price of dishes is however rather high.
G. G.

D. B.
One of the best places in Brisbane for great food and wine along with amazing service and atmosphere. Highly recommended!
D. M.
Only had it from the night noodle markets in southbank but if they can make it this tasty from small BBQs then it's probably extremely delicious at the restaurant.
E. M.
Delicious food and attentive staff - thank you for a lovely family night out
A. Č.
Great food, the karaage chicken is a must eat! I ended up ordering 3 rounds of it, had to stop myself for going for a 4th 😋
A. R.
Great place for lunch. Generous portions for $12. Only complaint is that the fries were a bit oversalted.
B. S.
Great yakitori. But if you’re after other type of Japanese food - not many selection here.
C. A. (.
The best Japanese I've had since Japan. Authentic food, amazing drinks and great for any occasion.

Like being back in Japan. Authentic and delicious. Along with regular choices try chicken hearts and sasami with shiso and ume. They even did a umechu for me. Try some yakionigri to finish.
J. T.
Loveeeeee this place. Friendly staff, good drinks and delicious sticks. Probably my most visited restaurant in Brissy
A. S.
Felt like I was back in Japan, cool staff and food was good also, the price was little up there but what you expect for yakitori.
J. L.
We had some yakitori skewers, chicken karaage and japanese omellete. Great ingredients but a bit pricey thou.
H. A.
Really nice but small plate sizes for the prices. The white chocolate sesame panacotta was astounding.
