Comments of Brisbane Phoenix Chinese Restaurant

The food was quite decent, good taste. We ordered around 12 dishes and the bill came to $169. There were four of us and we were full after the meal. Ambiance was a darker theme, and more modern. Didn’t have the traditional feel of push carts though 😫 Thought the the price point was a bit high, overall not too bad of a dim sum place.

My friend and I stumbled into this place randomly and what a find it turned out to be! We started with a comforting pot of jasmine tea, moving onto a variety of dumplings (steamed! fried! floating in chicken broth!) and ending with cloud-like mango pancakes. Super friendly service, good prices (two very full and happy bellies at $40 each). Thank you for an amazing lunch!
J. W.
A fantastic selection of yum cha dishes and they are all very authentic and delicious. Love the atmosphere here and the service is great too. A bit pricy but worth the money. Will definitely return, highly recommended!

Fantastic food and the best dumplings in Brisbane. And I should know I spent 6 years in Hong Kong. And very good service. Reasonably priced.

8 of us shared the Banquet in one of the rooms. The service was attentive , we were never in need of anything and the food outstanding. Going back to try out more of the menu for sure.

A group of us had a very nice Yum Cha lunch here. All the dishes we had were freshly made and delicious, with the serving well paced. The venue is well set out, spacious, and not noisy. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Favourites included the prawn and garlic chive dumplings; black pepper beef Shumai dumpling; spring onion pancake; baby spinach dumpling; prawn and snow pea dumpling; chicken and vegetable spring rolls; and custard tarts.

Great food. Pool service. Our $80 pecking duck was ruined by the waitress who served us, it was like being cut by a three year old and there were not enough pieces for 12 pancakes. When the dessert was served, we were still left with dirty plates and chopsticks, had to call waitress several times to change our plates and cuttery so we can start with our dessert.

Oh Phoenix how l missed you. To say l was over the moon to find out that the very popular Phoenix restaurant was opening in Brisbane is an understatement. I have been a huge fan of this restaurant that has been running for the last 20 years.
Was quite a regular customer to the @rhodes_phoenix and @sky_yumcha restaurant and so I have always found the quality of yum cha to be on a whole new level. To me everything just tastes better at Phoenix and l was so happy to hear that Brisbane Phoenix will have some brisbane exclusive yum cha items like the Fresh Crab Meat XLB, Scallop and Caviar Shumai and King Prawn and Goji Berries Rice Paper Roll just to name a few.
Brisbane Phoenix restaurant itself is conveniently located within Brisbane Quarter precinct. 180 seat venue and has three functions rooms one in particular was fit for a queen lol. Will l be back….heck yeah!!! For both a la carte and yum cha and l can not wait!
K. C.
Good yumcha experience with very prompt service. Very attentive and even helped pour tea. Best food from a yumcha place in brisbane, excelling Sunnybank by a mile. The only reason for four stars was the lack of variety of food/classic yum cha food with the menu being quite bare. Unique yumcha containers makes beautiful Instagram photos. They also validate your parking in the city!!

😊The meal was bug enough to feed for 2 people
😋I really like the salty taste of all foods
But this restaurant need more organizations. We were waiting for 30 minutes to order some food🤦♀️
식당이 좀 관리가 안된다는것 빼고는 좋았음

Our go to for the best yum char and chinese dishes. We have been coming here for years and have had a wonderful experience each time. Nice ambience and lots of delicious dishes to choose from and friendly staff. Being able to have your tickets validated is an extra bonus.

Second visit now, will be back again. From start to finish it was spot on. Dinner service was exceptional. Time to settle in, entrees and mains timed perfectly, wait staff couldn't have been more prompt. Beautiful technique and flavour from the kitchen. There's been a definite improvement with service since my previous visit. The only thing missing is a nice view. Sorry no photos.
V. W.
Located at the beautiful W, whilst you don't capture the river views, the food,, especially the dumplings, in the humble opinion of yours truly, are incredible - a unique twist on a classic dish. Served with a good level of professionalism, its a must try for dumpling lovers.
C.
The food was good, service was ok but then again it is covid so they might have been understaffed.

We had our team lunch here and this is great place for office team meeting. There are probably better value for yum cha in Brisbane but generally this is probably currently the best place for yum cha in the city that you can host office meeting or visitors.
A. L.
We had a yumcha for lunch on Sunday and everything was great. The service was excellent and polite compared to many other yumcha places and the food was delicious and well worth the price. After trying other yumcha places in Brisbane, I think the Phoenix will be my go to for yumcha in the future.
M. P.
Great food! The ambience is great for fate night or business meeting alike. The menu has something for every taste, including vegan options. The staff are professional and welcoming, and the service is top notch. Located in the beautiful new dining precinct behind W Hotel, Brisbane Phoenix will not disappoint. Arguably the best Chinese food around.

We went for dinner and enjoyed having such a large table for two, I cannot stress this enough, the food was 10/10 but... The service is a bit all over the place and inattentive. Entree took 30+ minutes to arrive. The mains arrived during the entree. Mains didn't arrive all at the same time, a good fifteen minutes between some dishes. It made for an awkward dinner when you are waiting for the other half of the meal. The yumcha looks awesome. This place would be so good if they had an ordering system in place and if they worked with waiter sections.
B. H.
Good servings of quality food, along with excellent service.
W. J. D.
Yum Cha was delicious. A little more expensive than other Yum Cha but so good. This stuff didn't just roll out of a plastic bag into the fryer or steamer - it seemed to be all hand-made and made to order. For 2 people, we were full after 6 plates - total was $100 including 3 alcoholic drinks. A+ for quality.
S. M.
Ordered duck pancakes and mixed dim sim entree, crispy sweet and sour pork main. Nothing was bad, but it wasn't great either. Definitely not worth the premium price tag, was just like any other Chinese restaurant. Boyfriend hated the decor and that the yumcha wasn't available at dinner too 🤣 Oh, the "cocktails" were also fine but kinda watery.
E. B.
Honestly the food was good, but the service was appalling. I repeatedly asked the waiters to serve us and they would reply with ‘just wait’, ‘wait’ or look at you and walk by. I felt like it might have been easier to stand up and walk to the kitchen to take my order myself. So frustrated with the level of attentiveness, when really all I needed was water for the table and someone to take our orders. It felt like I had to chase the waiters down which makes what could have been a relaxing lunch turn into a bit of a stressful occasion.
c. s.
three words to describe the restaurant: colour, taste and aroma.
S. P.
Nice addition to the W! Will definitely be back again soon for the yum cha menu

tl;dr: Pricey, but currently the best dim sum in Brisbane
Rejoice in not needing to go all the way to Sunnybank area and brave the terrible driving for dim sum. Phoenix is currently the best I've had in Brisbane, and has the price tag to match -- as a person with Chinese ethnicity who have eaten both panty droppingly amazing and also earth shatteringly terrible dim sum in my life, and having been searching for a half decent dim sum place for the 18 years that I've lived here, I like to think I've got decent qualifications! While the selection is not as big as those in Sunnybank, the common items (har gao 蝦餃, siew mai 燒賣, cheong fun 腸粉 etc) are all available, and the upside is that the quality is much, much better. While cheapest plates in Sunnybank tend to be ~$4.50, Phoenix is at least double that.
Having said that, not everything is fantastic; avoid the char siew 叉燒, which, to be fair, is not something that I've found to be any good any where in Australia.
N. D.
Made a booking, where upon arrival, they had not written down, which we found odd, and a bit disorganised, especially, when you have to organise babysitting etc. Regardless, they found us a table, and it was a good experience. Service is reasonable. Not on the top of our "go to" place, but still worth checking out.
R. A.
Food was very tasty, and we'll presented, service was excellent. Only negative was being charged for water
C. T.
Was a little disappointed after having yum cha at Brisbane Phoenix, maybe I had high expectations from them as it is considered expensive compared to other YumCha restaurants. Ordered 8 different dishes and the only dish I’d recommend was the prawn rice noodle. Others were average... most probably will not be returning for their yum cha but they had attentive waitress/waiters, service was good
L. G.
Located in the heart of Brisbane city. It's our first lunch visit for yum cha. Staff were friendly. Food orders were taken by ticking boxes on a slip of printed paper. Lots of food selection but could be tastier when preparing. Price ?
Much more expensive then many others.

Such a lovely evening here tonight. The food was exceptional! We had a great variety and the food came out really quickly. The staff seemed a little nervous, still learning maybe but we were extremely well attended and enjoyed yourselves more and more as the night progressed. Would definitely recommend visiting and we will definitely be back 🙂
S. G.
A great culinary experience, especially for lovers of authentic Chinese cuisine. Lovely decor, friendly staff and wonderful food. Whilst a little on the pricey side, it was well worth it, and we will certainly be back.
T. N.
Food was good, could be better.
The Peking duck pancakes and the crab xiao long baos were amazing, I would order these again. The braised mushroom and greens was good. The scallops and egg white fried rice was quite bland. Prawn and kimchi dumplings and the spicy chicken dumplings were just okay, won't order them again. The wine list needs to be improved and the selection of tea is good.
Service was a bit lacking. Maybe because the restaurant has just opened. Staff seemed a little confused, either they were all standing around our table or no where to be seen at one point. Asked for soup spoons for the xiao long baos and were given dinner spoons.... asked again and the staff was really clueless until another staff stepped in and got us the correct spoons. Not a big deal but I thought that would be a given for a 'fine dining yum cha' restaurant.
The interior is beautiful though. Will come back to try the other dishes.
F.
Exceptional Yum Cha. Really fresh ingredients and silky soft dumplings. The roast duck is an absolute must! The restaurant has only just opened and is currently finalising their wine list so they only have house Chardonnay and Shiraz. Was pleasantly surprised by the Chardonnay. Would normally steer clear but needs must... went down well with the food.

Best place for Yum Cha in Brisbane. Great customer service and delicious food. The portion are larger compared to other yumcha restaurant.
M. M. L.
I'm always dubious of upmarket Chinese restaurants with high prices, meagre portions and mediocre food ... but
Brisbane Phoenix is none of the above!
Quality of yum cha dishes were very good, on par with above-average ones in Hong Kong. Finesse and accuracy in textures, subtleties in flavour balances, good-sized portions, good quality ingredients and slick service.
Finally, an excellent yum cha restaurant in the cbd. Will be back.
M. T.
Food was good! But!!!! My plate was taken a way when I was eating mango pancake🤧🤧🤧

Wow. Was a little disappointed after having yum cha at Brisbane Phoenix , maybe Thad high expectations from them as it is considered expensive compared to other YumCha . . . I was super excited to check out this new restaurant in Brisbane after hearing rave reviews about it . Unfortunately my family and I didn ' t have the best experience . All in all , it . .

Food is great. Excellent Yum Cha in a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately the service is average.

Seriously!!! My search for the best Chinese restaurant in Brisbane CBD is now over.. to be honest, there aren't many Chinese restaurants in the CBD.. however, I had a business Yum cha today and there were 4 of us.. one from Sydney on a trip.. but we all fell in love with the quality of food.. trust me, I enjoyed many Yum cha in my life time and I can confidently say this place really nailed it.. also.. the service was extremely good.. my little cup of Chinese tea never went cold because it was continuously refilled by the floor staff.. highly recommended!!!!
金.
Very good resturance, nice food, good environment, the price is bit high then usual Chinese resturant, but consider it's in CBD, what you can ask.
N. N.
For me this is the best yum cha in Brisbane. Yes it’s double the price but items like the Cheung fan and Sui Mai are as good as Hong Kong or Sydney. Atmosphere and service is great.
T. H.
Delicious food every-time, great dumplings, would recommend the mango dessert
J. T.
My go to yum cha place. All else pales in some comparison. Absolutely love the king prawn Cheung fun.

Went for Yum Cha. All the dishes were quite good and authentic. I do think it was a little pricey, $8 to $12(visited 2022) per dish. I'm used to paying less than this so can order many dishes for a group but with this price adds up quick.

(Translated) Warmest night ever!!! Starting with warm greeting and really great service.
I just extracted wisdom tooth several hours ago before the dinner, so I need to have congee. At the beginning the wait staff told me only seafood congee will be served at dinner time but I cannot have seafood after tooth extraction. So they asked the chef to cook me beef congee that is not on the menu. I'm so surprised.
They also noticed my swelling face and asked if I need the ice pack, and offered me a hand-made ice pack (ice cube cover by cling warp). They brought me a proper ice pack when they found it and wish me can feel comfortable while eating. I'm surprised again because this is far way beyond my expectations towards certain restaurant services, especially an Asian restaurant.
I would say the dim sum and congee here, best in town! I strongly recommend fresh crab meat xiao long bao, cause I ordered two serves with eight pieces (four pieces in one serve). Really juicy and tasty, feel like I’m back to Shanghai again.
After finished all the dishes, the owners served us fresh fruit combo for free. U guys are so nice and warm😭 Thanks for the caring night. Definitely will come back many times!!! Big thanks!!!
There is true love in the world, and there is great love in the world. I was really moved. I came to eat after my teeth were pulled. I couldn’t eat seafood, but they only made seafood porridge at night. The owner troubled the chef to make beef porridge. I was moved!
After that, I was asked by the owner if I needed an ice pack. First, I DIY made a homemade ice pack for me, and in less than five minutes, I found a serious ice pack for me to apply to my face. Do you have a habit of eating? I am afraid that such a service is only available in domestic Haidilao?
This meal is so happy. Crab roe meat xiao long bao must be ordered, glutinous rice chicken, spinach in soup, custard bun, pumpkin tofu, beef porridge, none of them stepped on the thunder
I, a person who doesn't write reviews, have written so much. It can be seen that I am really touched and grateful! Continue to eat tomorrow and take more pictures!
