Situated above the busy Queen Street Mall, is Ichiban Sushi. Featuring both a sushi train and seated service, each table is set up for self ordering using the tablets placed on each table. I love this option as it allows you to order as many times as you wish at your leisure whenever you wish. The order is sent to the kitchen who begins preparing your food and brought out by the staff when ready. There’s minimal wait. Service was quick and the staff were friendly. Food wise, it is what you expect from the sushi train category. All the usual popular favourites. The best part is they are open 7 days a week from 10.30am to 9pm and ALL sushi plates are $3.80. (Note, menu items are different in pricing). The decor however was far better than the usual chain outlets. It’s a modern take of the traditional sushi restaurants. I love how light, airy and minimalist it feels. While you have to go up a flight of well lit stairway, there is also a lift service for people who don’t wish to walk up the stairs.

Phenomenal fast service, good quality and well priced. Very clean space and well thought out seat planning. Menu is easy to use via tablet and staff are both Korean and Japanese. I can tell they care about this shop. Tap beer was very tasty meaning that the lines have been cleaned. Overall very impressed for a cheap sushi place to have such a good setup. Well done.

Update Aug 2021: Sushi were much, much better this time. Good quality salmon belly, tuna and kingfish. Especially love the unagi (eel) sushi. Happy with the improvements. Jan 2021: Used to be really good but noticed lately the quality has dropped massively. The sushi rice is not sushi rice, but really dry and hard. Sashimi slices were super frozen, not pleasant to eat. Dumplings were dry and looked like they had been reheated many times.

Can get a bit busy between 12 and 2 on weekdays. [Edit] Dropping a star as portions have definitely decreased since they opened. Hardly worth the effort of them providing mayo with karaage now. Have to spend an extra 80c to get a worthwhile dip size.

I was totally caught off guard with this restaurant. I was expecting to sushi train style food but I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. We opted for the Karachi bento and it proved to be a winner. It was very well priced and the service was very fast. I like the iPad style ordering option. Good quality sushi. I used to hate sushi-train because of the rice always too hard and cold, but this restaurant made me change my mind. The dining place is awesome and comfy. Me and my fiance came at 6 PM and the sushi train lack of variation. But when we ordered in the pad it comes very quick. I love the taste but the portion little bit too small IMHO. The sushi rice is not sticky enough to hold the salmon, and tasteless. Service very good tho.

It was meh. Don't think I'd go back. The girls were really friendly but the sushi wasn't very fresh and very little variety (went around 2pm). Ordered Mayo and it took 10 minutes to come... Had to pay $1 for it and I'd finished eating already. I know that's kind of trivial but I'm not very confrontational and didnt want to say anything. It just would have been nice for the girls to notice and take it off the bill. Really nice set up, it has a cool vibe. Maybe I just went at the wrong time.

I liked the quality of the fish here better than all the other sushi places I went to in Brisbane and in the surrounding area. I wish I could give it more stars. But, the staff isn’t that friendly, particularly the Australian staff. The Asian staff was more friendly, they just didn’t understand everything I said because English wasn’t their native language. I didn’t mind repeating myself. They always ended up understanding and got my orders right. I think that while the iPads for ordering are efficient, it takes away from pleasant social interaction that might otherwise happen. Just to have a staff member say: “here’s your food,” and put something on your table then run off isn’t pleasant. Particularly when the restaurant is deserted. Ask me if I need anything else. Ask me if everything is alright so far. Don’t just toss food on the table and run. The ambiance, as a result of that, is so bad, I took off two stars. Otherwise, it’s a nice place. It’s quiet because it’s a floor up (though watch your step when leaving as it’s easy to miss the stairs by the register). The food is good. It’s a shame they put efficiency over friendliness. It takes just a second to ask if everything is okay and it would’ve made the experience a thousand times better. Note: I always ordered traditional dishes (sushi, sashimi, edamame, rice, soup), so that is all I can comment on in regards to food. I did not order Western style rolls, anything fried or with mayonnaise. So I cannot comment on their quality.

They're number one not only in name but the actual sushi. Holy God is it perfection. The train is all with the special rolls, so we ordered through the electronic pad (at each table) for our soft shell crab hand roll, squid sushi and crab eggs sushi. All the sushi Is fresh since so many people are here the turnover rate is fast. Just a little disappointed with the karage is way too deep fried too long and is in stripes rather then in pieces ?!?

I heard it was good and was not disappointed. Pick the easy sushi off the train and the really good food off the touch screen menu. The staff are really attentive. I had an hour window to have lunch with my brother on the way to the airport and it was a happy event.
