My very first visit to Malt Dining happened many years ago for a friend’s birthday dinner but I finally got the chance to come back again for a great meal last night! We ordered a good spread off the menu to share around the table. Each main dish had such a distinguishable range of flavours that complimented the ingredients so well! Loved everything we tasted : the tangy, the sweet, the charcoal burn, everything! Kudos to the Chef for creating and serving an amazing palette on a plate.

I was really amazed by how delicious the food in here was.My most favorite was the wagyu beef brisket. It was cooked perfectly and the flavor was just magical in my mouth 👌🏻.I wish the serving could’ve been more. The side dishes were also delicious and well thought of. The salad and the potato sauce was really yum. To think that they’re just sides. I just didn’t enjoy the mango sorbet dessert. I think it’s an acquired taste. The mango flavor was yum but then when you mix it, i just didn’t enjoy the spicy aftertaste and the black pudding mixture. The serving was just slow on that night because there’s not much staff on that weekday and there were a lot of us but the food made up for it

Awesome experience for lunch today. A huge selection of drinks including craft beers, wines and of course whiskey. My wife and I tried 4 different dishes on the menu and all were impeccable. Beautifully presented and balanced! A big tick to the Chefs! Our waiter was also fantastic even though by himself nothing was a bother and service was excellent!

Having been a patron of Malt bar for many years, I finally decided to give the upstairs restaurant a go. Being welcomed by more of the dark stained wood and gentle ambiance of the main bar, along with familiar staff, the restaurant is mmediately identifiable as an extended parts of a whole. It's a comforting, welcoming, joyful fine dining atmosphere and menu. I opted for the 6 course taster menu and it was an absolute delight, as well as fantastic value for money. The knockout dish for me was the wontons, perfectly balanced in flavour and texture, the sauce a revelation of savoury goodness married perfectly with the creaminess of the filling and the crunch of the walnuts. All of the other dishes were wonderful still and a unique experience for each. Would definitely recommend the brownie for dessert to share. The smoky miso caramel was moreish and a great contrast to the sweetness of the rest of the dish. Staff as always are helpful, attentive, and give excellent recommendations. From the kitchen to front of house, it's obvious that everyone knows their current menu back to front. Each dish arrived succulent, crisp, and brimming with fresh, seasonal, and artful flavour, and with such a nice drink selection, go for the prearranged accompaniment wines or select a few whiskys, cocktails, etc from the menu, or just ask for a recommendation. I will absolutely be returning for more. Perfect for indulgence on your own, as a couple, or for a special occasion for a larger group.

Very friendly staff. Accommodated 2 young kids as well. The chips (for the kids) were amazing and that sauce is 🔥 🔥 🔥. Although for the menu items I feel light and savory tastes were lacking. Tried all but 1 of the vegetarian dishes and they were all very sweet and quite rich. The cabbage was too sweet for me as well. Very nice ambiance. I felt it was great value for a fine dining restaurant.

My partner and I had a great night. Travis (our waiter) was very kind and attentive, insisting on delivering the best experience even when we offered to keep our used share plates. The atmosphere was warm and cosy and the food was amazing, in particular the pea wontons which were most enjoyably complex in flavour. Highly recommend. Chose Malt dining as the venue for my partner's birthday after reading the reviews on the vegan/vegetarian degustation. Booked through open table and mentioned it was for a birthday and confirmed via phone that we are both vegan. Unfortunately, once we were seated we were advised that the new menu now does not offer a vegan degustation but were advised of vegan options for some of the starters and the opportunity to have a personalised dinner known as "Trust the Chef". The chef did an amazing job with our mystery meal and it was incredibly delicious. Would absolutely love to see a vegan menu once again as we will probably not return again due to minimal options. Would have appreciated if we were notified on the phone that options were limited for vegans as I would have reconsidered our booking from a dinner to casual drinks. It is worthwhile to note, that the renovations did an amazing job and this place is truly a hidden secret with bounds of potential for years to come.

The food was amazing! Great venue, impeccable service and well made cocktails. We spent a long weekend trialling Brisbane's best for our anniversary and Malt was the absolute favourite! Standout dish was the pea wonton... 🤤 Sooo good. And pushing the smoked miso caramel that far on the brownie was a stroke of genius... Bravo chef!👌 The only 'but' of the evening was that the black sticky rice pudding was tasty, but not sticky. See you again soon

Malt has a nice, simple interior with wooden tables and friendly staff. The cocktail I tried was good and most of the food was quite tasty. We felt the dessert and Quail was a letdown. The standouts were the mushroom cigars, broccoli and cauliflower. The restaurant serves share food and staff were quite helpful in guiding us to an appropriate number of dishes for the size of our group. An enjoyable experience.

The service was amazing!! Food was delicious with lots of flavours and suited perfectly for our dietary requirements. We started with Entree’ - Scallion Crab on Corn tostados with kimchi and stuffs - Such a delicious start for our dinner - So much flavours and amazing textures!! Lamb ribs - The best Lamb ribs we have ever tried with an amazing sauce and greens - great balance. XO noodles with king prawns - The prawns itself was so perfectly cooked but the noodles was a bit too citrusy and we didn’t really feel the kick of XO flavour. Side - Potatoes with Truffle mayo - One of the most delicious potatoes we have tried - so great with flavours and perfectly cooked with consistent sized potatoes and Sauce was the best!!! Finished with a beautiful dessert - Torta Caprese - Great textures with well balanced chocolate flavour with Peach gelato, Chocolate crackle and peach sauce - perfect way to end the dinner!!! Definitely recommend this place and can’t wait to be back and try new dishes!!!

Had the most amazing 5 course degustation dinner here last night. Every dish was a stunner and the paired wines were well matched and interesting (even one a bit controversial but it worked beautifully). The venue is lovely, the food super tasty. The waiter was really friendly. We had a two hour seating, but there was no way the six courses were going to be completed within that time frame. An hour and a half in we had only had two of them. So it took longer than planned for (we had to move on afterwards due to the size of the group). Also because everyone had masks on we couldn't actually hear anything the waiter said. Overall a lovely experience.

I consider myself someone very hard to please when it comes to dining, and it's rare that I would sit down to write a review, but these people truly deserve my time. Amy the manager, Marc our waiter, and the chef the evening of 25 September 2021 made everything outstanding and memorable from beginning to end - from booking all the way to the end of the night. When I made the reservation and shared all of my very detailed needs and preferences, Amy was knowledgeable, friendly, and warmly willing to accomodate. She seemed genuinely wanting and willing to make my night go perfectly. Everything seemed so good that I was afraid something would go wrong or that it was too good to be true, but honestly, my experience continued to be like a scripted movie scene where everything is just right. We couldn't have asked for a more delightful, knowledgable, and attentive waiter than Marc! What perfect service. And the food the chef made that evening (sorry, I wish I knew chef's name!), wow. We had the six course tasting menu, and every single course was a beautifully crafted piece of art that tasted new, delicious, and unforgettable. As I write this, it sounds unreal but it really was that great. Thank you to all of you for a great night. You have our applause.

My partner and I recently tried the omnivore tasting menu at Malt, and we thought it was really good! There were a few things we thought just didn’t quite work together, but on the whole each course was very delicious! The highlight for me was probably the pumpkin wontons - this dish alone was undeniably a 10/10. I opted in to get paired drinks with the tasting course, and while they probably weren’t perfect pairs, mostly they worked well - the exception being dessert, where I felt the old fashioned was just too overpowering for the dish. The staff and ambiance were perfect, and added to a very enjoyable night. I wouldn’t go back until they updated their tasting menu, but it’s definitely worth trying!

Excellent for a trully high end date (should please the most demanding), the food is quite ballanced (the desserts are not too sweet, and the flavors are not too overcoming). Superb customer service and fabulous ambiance. The price is justified for the art made and service than to leave you impressed with their flavor. Therefore reserve this place for impressing that one and have a unique experience. As this place is not so much for finding your next favorite meal. *If you are hungry try their banquet option ( might be a better deal)

Dated with my wife there a year ago. Food and environment was great. 1. Pasta was good seasoning, which taste like a kong hong style dish called "Typhoon Shelter Style" Crab. 2. Duck breast was juicy and delicious. 3. We pretty enjoyed the live piano performance.

Great service and amazing menu. Enjoyed a celebratory dinner and it exceeded our expectations. The customer service is attentive, friendly and personal. As entrees, we enjoyed delectable Kangaroo Tartare and Broccoli Wontons. The flavours are exquisite and so moreish. For mains we thoroughly enjoyed Organic Pork Collar and Wagyu Beef Brisket which were beautifully accompanied by Grilled Asparagus adorned with stracciatella, hazelnut and cured egg yolk. We did not think it could get any better until we inhaled their signature Malt Brownie. It is truly decadent and not to be missed. We cannot wait to revisit and experience the tasting menu. Pretty sure, our friends and work colleagues will not be far behind! Thank you for a memorable occasion.

We experienced a delicious 6 course tasting menu on our date night. The paired wines were delicious. Our favorite dishes were the wantons, kangaroo, and dessert. We felt the quail dish was a little too kfc-crumbed-chicken for a high class restaurant. Just our personal opinion. The staff were polite and professional. The venue was clean and tables adequately spaced for covid concerns. We felt that the individual dining tables were very long for couples looking to have conversations on date night (felt we were meters apart) but perhaps turning them sideways would fix that? Might affect the spacing of tables. Again, just our opinion. 🤷‍♀️ All in all, a delicious dining experience.

After I ate at Malt Dining, I thought to myself, wow it's been a while since I had such an enjoyable meal out in Brisbane! Service was friendly and fantastic. Food was equally delicious! We got the Xinjiang Cauli blossom, Morcilla and Stracciatella, Maple glazed confit duck leg, Pork collar with jerusalem artichokes, honey sesame kipfler potatoes. The entrees were all mouth watering and appetising! We all loved the pork collar dish even my sister who isn't usually a fan of pork! It was succulent, juicy and flavourful. We enjoyed the maple glazed confit duck however it was too salty and some of the meat was dry. It paired well with the potatoes because I found them to be a little under seasoned. For dessert we got the earl grey panna cotta and the malt brownie! I really enjoyed the malt brownie because the miso caramel and ice cream in between the brownie was a great foil to the rich brownie itself! The earl grey panna cotta had great flavour but I found the texture to be too jelly-like. I'm looking forward to my next visit to Malt already!

My wife and I dined at Malt for a birthday celebration. The setting in a rustic old brick building created a sense of history that blended with some other more modern features. The menu, whilst not extensive, was very well thought out with something to appeal to most tastes, also available as a la carte or degustation. We chose a la carte. My yellowfin tuna ceviche entree was generously sized and expertly balanced in flavours. My wife chose the slow cooked beef for main course, whilst I chose the kangaroo. Both were superb. My wife enjoyed the Malt brownie for dessert while I settled for a blind tasting single malt scotch recommended by the sommelier. Service was efficient, friendly and attentive, and our orders arrived at the appropriate time, neither too slow nor too fast. All in all, a lovely evening.

Had a delightful lunch feast here with a friend today (July 2020). Top marks for cuisine, which is a surprising mash-up of cultures, but executed wonderfully, both in flavours and presentation! Recommend getting a few dishes for sharing to sample the spectrum. Ambiance, aesthetics and interior are charming and intimate. A very comfortable experience. Just got married here! The staff here are exceptional at communication, service and are genuinely caring and good people. With the advent of covid and the subsequent difficulties, Malt Dining provided phenomenonal support and understanding. The only thing better than their character was their food. My husband and I had an absolutely fabulous experience at Malt Dining. The venue is lovely and relaxed with lots of ambience but no ‘noise’ per se. The food was exquisite and interesting. We went for my husband’s birthday and were spoilt for choice by vegetarian options. We loved that the food was locally sourced and the beers were all local, including the having a local microbrewery (Slipstream from Yeronga) on tap. We ended up going for the menu options rather than the degustation as it was significantly cheaper but gave us nearly all the same options. Our waiter was brilliant; he was knowledgeable, friendly and not remotely snooty. When I booked online, I put a note in that it was my husband’s birthday and when we ordered dessert, without being reminded, it came out with a candle! I was just so impressed at this restaurant! Best of all, it was extremely reasonably priced, I couldn’t believe we were able to get such a gourmet experience with a few drinks for well under $200. Overall, I couldn’t recommend Malt Dining highly enough and thoroughly look forward to going back soon.

My partner and I had a wonderful evening, upstairs at Malt dining on Friday night. We went with the $89 vegetarian version of the six course "tasting menu" but with just a couple of drinks (a really lovely brioche-y Collet champagne, and an Italian sangiovese) rather than the full wine pairing experience. The flavours and textures of each dish in its own way were punchy and imaginative, and gave us lots to discuss. Everything was good, but one stand out for me was the pea wontons which were soft, nutty, mellow, and sweet - almost dessert like in texture and flavour but with the right amount of umami. They reminded me of one of my favourite yum cha dishes, red bean cakes, or slippery steamed folded rice noodles sheets dipped in swirls of peanut and hoisin sauce. The serving size here too was perfect for tasting menu (some of the other courses, such as the kimchi melon, and the coal roasted cabbage, although delicious, appeared too too generous - not something many would see as a fault, but it did leave us both absolutely stuffed and rolling out the door!). The coal-roasted cabbage too was actually amazing. charred, sweet, tangy and soft, with a green goddess dressing underneath, earthy crunchy tempura enoki mushrooms, and a scattering of roasted hazelnuts. It was the kind of thing that you could imagine on a menu at an Ottolenghi mid-range restaurant, and i definitely mean that as a complement. The chef is obviously a creative soul in love with the possibilities of flavour and texture. The serving staff were both excellent : friendly and warm without being intrusive, and knowledgable advocates for the kitchen. The noise level was also perfect for conversation. There were other people there, and a bit of a buzz, but it was so great to be able to actually hear each other for once instead of having to shout above loud music. We look forward to returning.

4 of us came for dinner after the fireworks for Riverfire, we were a little surprised that the restaurant was so quiet bearing in mind how busy it was outside. We decided to leave it up to them and overall had a wonderful meal, there were some great dishes and flavours that we had never tried before but we all said that we would like to come back. The service overall was excellent, the only thing that stopped me rating the night as excellent was my wife's gin & tonic was not the best and some of her duck had not been rendered correctly and was therefore still fatty.

One thing as a personal opinion is some of the food is a bit spicy, I'm not a big spice fan however my partner is and loved it. I would definitely go back there. We went to Malt on a whim and loved our experience. The dining room upstairs is elegant and quiet, with a piano player on the Friday night we were there. The menu is well balanced and offers vegetarian options as well, and there's a good wine list. The food was fantastic, perfectly seasoned, and the waitress recommended sides which suited our mains perfectly. It's not your cheapest meal out, but it could well be your most memorable.

I had the pleasure of trying the 6 course degustation at Malt last night. I cannot rate it highly enough. The waitresses are friendly & attentive. I accidentally dropped part of my first course on the ground (I was trying to be all MasterChef like by testing the 'crack' on the crisp)and within seconds I had a new one in it's place. The taste of each course was very different which made for an exciting adventure. I don't think I've ever enjoyed pumpkin or tomato as the hero ingredient of a dish before to the extent of them being my favorite dishes! One more MasterChef reference... The Quail was done on a hibachi. I know why it is such a popular method of cooking now... Succulent & charred! Yum! We did the wine pairing too which rounded out the perfect meal. Thank you Malt for making our date night fun and memorable! We will be back!

Price to quality is amazing, generous portions considering it's a finer dining experience. The restaurant itself has a warm and rustic ambience with exposed brick walls and wooden beamed high ceilings. The food and wine were delivered rhythmically, and when we needed a lull to digest the heartier meals, we had it without asking. The food was delicious and included some surprises. The 'Summer Squash' dish was an engaging start. Who knew squash was so tasty? Malt accommodated my partner's gluten intolerance so well, and all her alternative meals were certainly not after thoughts. Some of the wine pairings for her were slightly off though. I imagine they were for the regular menu. The staff were all delightful and knew their products. I don't think they stopped moving all night. I highly recommend Malt.

Exceptional dining destination in Brisbane. The old industrial brick building setting is delightful, especially in the restaurant attic section. They more than lived up to their claim of enjoying catering to dietary requirements. Highly recommend trying this restaurant, especially if you have dietary requirements.

I took my partner to Malt for Valentine's this year. The place had a great vibe, especially with the live pianist and a red rose on the table. We both enjoyed the food which introduced us to new flavours and was presented well. One of the waitresses, who I think was French, was particularly friendly and spoke very passionately about each dish that she brought out. The only thing that didn't go well was a miscommunication about the special Valentine's offer. I was told over the phone when booking that $25 got you the rose, two glasses of sparkling wine on arrival, and some complimentary chocolates at the end of the evening. When we didn't receive our wines on arrival I asked the waitress about it. She said we hadn't booked that offer but quickly poured two glasses of prosecco for us, though no further explanation was offered. When we received the bill it was a bit of an unpleasant surprise to see we were charged $50 for the package. It turns out there were two packages, one for $25 and another which included the wines and bread sticks with dips for $50. I'm certain that I was given the wrong information as my partner is gluten intolerant and I wouldn't have opted for the bread sticks had I been told about it. We were also given macarons instead of chocolates which she can't have either. The staff were quite apologetic about it and said they would try to find out where the miscommunication stemmed from but ultimately did nothing to make up for it. In any case, we had a good time and everything else was reasonably priced. Just wish they had taken responsibility for providing the wrong information.

Every dish was thoughtfully constructed. Very fancy fine dining experience. The flavours in each dish was enough to wake up the my taste buds in a sophisticated way. Kingfish Crudo was refreshing. Pea Wonton took me by surprise, because the only wontons I knew were the Chinese ones. These smashed pea wontons taste so well with goats cheese and mushrooms, contrasting the textures. My husband loved the charcoal flavour of the charcoal beef. I liked the mango gelato, so smooth and not too sweet, the snap frozen lychees added a crunchy texture. The value of this place is not the serving size. The only thing I didn’t know how to enjoy was the quail - a little bit too salty, maybe I should have eaten it with more of the jam accompaniment. This is the first time I had freshly prepared crunchy honeycomb in a dessert. Oh, did I mention the waitress was smiling the whole night telling us each plate of food we ordered. We lacked food literacy but we ate everything.
