Went expecting plain Mexican food but was delighted with some fantastic dishes and drinks. The jalapeno poppers were amazing, the seasoning and flavours really delicious. The guac was nice and the fajitas perfect as well. Got 4 different drinks and each one was really tasty. Looking forward to coming back :)

We absolutely adore this restaurant. It’s so unique and authentically Mexican. The staff are fantastic, even as busy as it gets they always have time for you. Jalapeno poppers are a good starter they are yummmmy!!! We also had the Cochinita Pabil and beef Chimichanga - 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻Devine! Food is extremely well priced and delicious. Frozen margaritas are a must and if you love tequila, the tequila flights are a good way to taste a few. Because who doesn’t love tequila and Mexican food!

If you are in a big group, try and a book a table so you don't have to wait. Very good food, more authentic than others. Amazing chilli con carne. Spicy but great. And good Margaritas. I ordered tamales and tried the liche Margarita.

We went here after serving the good ratings, knowing it's all but impossible to get good Mexican food anywhere in Queensland. It's a homely place, a bit ramshackle, but it suits perfectly. We had margaritas to start, followed by street corn, a seafood burrito and a cochinita pibil. The street corn was very good, and the cochinita was excellent. The seafood in the burrito was perfectly cooked and flavoursome, but the tortilla itself felt a bit thick, a bit heavy. Maybe it's because I prefer a lighter tortilla. Jose the head waiter was a lovely guy and very helpful. As a bonus Pepe's has a reasonable sized Mexican grocery stash. Very helpful. They occasionally have traditional mole as well - they make it themselves. Will definitely be back for that. A good experience.

Peps's Mexican is a long time favourite of ours we drive from Bray Park to eat there. The fish tacos are amazing and you won't get fresher Guacamole anywhere, top that with the unique style of the restaurant and a Desperado tequila beer and you have a great night out.

I am not a massive Mexican food fan but thought I would try something different. It did not dissappoint. Absolutely loved the corn chips and guacamole they make in front of you with a whole avocado. I ordered my main and could only get half way through it. Filled with so much meat that just melts in your mouth on a bed of lettuce, rice and beans. I would go there again. Oh and the Tres leches was amazing. Took it home after I had a break from all that amazing lunch. Although it's not my thing if you're looking for hot sauces they definitely carry a cabinet of a range you can buy too.

Went here for a birthday and enjoyed it. The atmosphere was exciting and frantic which was a little overwhelming but the staff was polite and capable of delivering good service. The food is amazing. The prices are good. They make really good Sangria. The staff are friendly and helpful. It also allow you to split the bill which is so helpful and alot of places don't. The food at Pepe’s is second to none. My friends and I traditionally visit Pepe’s for life events or celebrations because we know we’ll never be disappointed. I’d always recommend the nachos with guac and sour cream or the double enchilada.

Food has always been good, made with fresh quality ingredients. Service is good, however you do feel the pressure to move on fairly quickly. Parking options are very limited - it can be almost impossible to park at peak times. The chairs are some of the most uncomfortable chairs I’ve ever sat on due to the really short base on the chair. Perhaps this is part of the strategy for turning patrons over quickly.

Amazing Authentic and quaint little Mexican restaurant. Good food and lovely decor. Credit to the chef that made that in house hot sauce... it was freaking delicious and spicy, don't change it!. A few changes would have made it even better: - Serve lime with food, instead of lemon (as they do in most Mexican restaurants and in Mexico) - Provide hot sauce options when ordering, my fish tacos came with no sauce and had to get the waiters attention to get some hot sauce. - I asked for the bill 3x and waited about 30 minutes before the bill arrived

Probably the best mexican food i’ve had in a long while! Service sizes are HUGE here, but everything on the menu sounds good, so we’ll definitely be back. The quac we ordered was made fresh in front of us and came with a heap of really good corn chips. We grabbed a few chicken burritos and some nachos too which were really good. Juicy tender shredded chicken full of flavour. The cocktails here are awesome too. The place was packed for a Tuesday evening, so would definitely recommend booking a table.

For a place that is easy to drive past it is well worth stopping in at. Such delicious and satisfying food here, and a menu with plenty to offer. I’m a regular customer at Pepe’s because the food is reliably good. It doesn’t look like much from the outside but inside is a quaint and authentic restaurant whipping up Mexican favourites. I have tried a lot of the menu but my topic picks are; elote to start (Mexican street corn) then either the Chimichanga or Cochinita. If you are looking for something to share then you can’t go past the Sizzling Fajitas or the Beef Nachos (add guac + sour cream). Feeling adventurous? Try the crickets if they’re still on the menu when you go.

Theyre on the pricier side though so I'd probably visit on occasions but the portion sizes are huge so it sort of makes up for it. It's a reasonable place, nothing really stood out. The food was reasonable, no touches that made it unique other than our guacamole was made at our table by the server which was a novelty. Portion sized were large. Almost too large for the size of table our party of four were sat at. We had to trade dishes with the server to fit out plates onto this tiny table. One needs to book well in advance to get a decent table here. Brisbane's Mexican food standards are rather vanilla and that was my experience here. It serves the purpose but nothing that would make me insist that a friend should go there. If one has tasted Mexican food in the US or in Latin America this is not even close.

I’m a regular here, their flavours and portions are decent but I do not know what went wrong today. The man was quite abrupt on the phone when I was ordering, I was making sure I got the corn tortilla enchiladas as I know there is another variety and he spoke to me like I was ignorant, when in fact I order here often. When I collected the food it was busy, but I was ignored standing at the counter for at least 5minutes with zero acknowledgement from staff as they were moving around everyone. I don’t know if they’ve changed staff or management but my food was spilled before I even got it, I remember thinking the paper bag was wet but thought maybe it was just condensation since I took 15minutes longer to collect it, nope, the sauce was spilled all through the bag (they usually package it in plastic containers not this paper), and the enchiladas were served on paper too, so I had to scrape my meal off of soggy paper that ripped into my meal. Again, this has never been served this way before. I don’t know what has happened today but I’m so disappointed that my one cheat meal was ruined and something I was looking for no fuss ended up being super messy and so annoying. Hopefully this was a one-off day, I would recommend the food but hopefully the service gets better.

The only thing that negates the experience is where I’ve been seated twice now upon my visits to Pepes- awkwardly right next to the front door, with people constantly peering down at us. It is uncomfortable and disruptive to have people milling about and constantly hearing different conversations. Not to mention it’s also the same room where the kitchen is so it’s almost impossible to have a conversation.

A must try if you are new to Brisbane or visiting on holiday. They've been around a very long time and they're building is a well known local icon north of the river. The food servings are generous and tasty. We recommend exploring every part of the menu as you will not be disappointed.....or perhaps you need to do what we do and visit reguarly with an open mind😍 We tried the vegetarian sizzling fajitas, excellent value for money! You could even split the meal between two or more people. If you love sour cream or guacamole then you will need to order an extra serve of them because the ones that come with it are quite small. In fact it would be better if they served more sour cream, guacamole and salsa considering how big the sizzling plate serve is. Even a couple wedges of lemon amd lime would be ideal too. Then again we're big eaters so it really depends on your preferences lol. Again great value for money, exceptional flavours and tastes! You dont miss the meat at all🙌🏾 We grabbed the pork deep fried burrito (cant remember the name) and that was very tasty and a very generous serving size as well👍🏽 We grabbed the fish taco. Tasted really nice but the serving size was quite small in comparison to the others. Be ideal if there were two in a meal. Again cooked exceptionally well and everything tasted amazing together!🤙🏾 We tried the street corn (no photo) and we recommend trying it! Grilled corn rolled in sour cream and spices....absolutely delicious😍 And for the little one we grabbed the kids nachos......yup corn with cheese and sauce lol.....the cheese they use is amazing and it was delicious in all our meals🤩 We also grabbed a bowl of corn chips and guacamole......best corn chips ever!!! Pros - always busy which is a good sign for any restaurant, food is always tasty and exploring new items on every visit is worth it! Cons - you need to order extra sour cream and condiments, toilet floors are extremely slippery when wet⚠️, lady serving us seemed to be having a bad day or that might be her? One thing we dont tolerate while dining or venturing out is poor customer service!....people should stay home if they dont feel up to serving customers🤦🏽‍♂️ Ruins everyones experience and that is where all the gold is today! User Experience👌🏽Place could do with a make over, as cute as it is and the history it contains, gotta keep up with the times especially the slippery toilet floors!🤦🏽‍♂️ Would have given 5 stars if it wasnt for the cold lady serving us and the slippery toilet floors. Its a safety hazard and someone can get seriously injured as a result.

Love it here. Any time I have more than 8 people, I come here. The split bill makes everything so easy. Without fail, I always get the Seafood Burrito and a Bloody Mary. These are consistent bangers. I also enjoy the Cherry Margarita. But these are all pretty particular flavour that aren't always everyones cup of tea. HOWEVER, everything on this menu is 10/10. Not just my favourites. Even the plain tortillas are delicious, especially with the queso dip. Book in advance because this place gets chockers, but that doesn't slow down the speed of the food or the service. Definite recommendation.

Food was okay. Hospitality can be improved. I don't normally write negative reviews but in this case I think I should voice my opinion so that the restaurant might improve their services for the future customers. This place seems to be quite popular so I understand that they would like to fit in as many groups of customer as possible each day but they should handle it in a more polite way. We made a booking there for our friends birthday dinner. I ordered my second drinks (which didn't come at the end and there was no apologising about it) and we were just finished our main dish when the staff started clearing out our table and said that there is another booking coming in and we need to leave. There was no asking if we are waiting for any more food or drink or if we want a dessert. I understand that we might have a limit time on the booking but to prevent rushing out their custumers, they can, for example, remind us 15 mins before our booking time is done. This way we wouldn't leave the place feeling bad.

Fills you up and well priced for what you receive. The only thing i will mention is make sure to book! it always fills up really quickly and the wait can be long. Also the parking is shocking so best bet is to park down the side street - the parking allocated for the shops is hopeless and only has like 5 spots. Other than that you must go here!

When my boyfriend First took me to this Restaurant (because I LOVE mexican food)looking from outside I didnt really believe It could be good, but then I went inside and wow! It's a simple place but always busy (best to book in advance) and with EXCELLENT service! If you order the nachos, be aware that the small portion is enough for 2-3people If you are going to have something else, or more than enough If you're going to eat that alone. It's not the cheapest place but you won't have to sell an organ to pay the bill ;) cocktails are Very good, Nice range of beers. My friend Cathy and I celebrated her birthday at Pepe's on Wednesday, and ordered our usual meal of bean nachos. The meal was absolutely delicious and both of us agree that it was the best bean nachos we have eaten. We don't know if it was a new recipe or the work of a new chef, but whatever was different was superb. We can't wait to dine in again soon. My friends and I love going to Pepe's because of the friendly and efficient staff; great environment; and fabulous food. The staff make the best margaritas in Brisbane and both drinks and food are always served with a smile. Great restaurant. Brisbane's pepes have always been iconic from the one in milton which is gone to this great one at a central spot not far from city. Bustling atmosphere. Friday night was full. But can still talk. Helpful, polite, happy, quick and attentive staff. Lovely drinks with many options - mellow aged tequila options, refreshing white sangria in jug, wide range of beers and cocktails, the drinks are served in quirky containers. Food was delicious. Wider variety than most Mexican restaurants. Menu items you wont have seen. The yummiest soft tacos I've had. The owner Michael was so thoughtful checking our party of 8 was happy. Birthday drink for the birthday boy. Sparklers on dessert. And what incredible desserts. I was too full but others tucked into chocolate nachos. Yum. Brisbane needs more places like this. Support it it deserves it.

quite a busy restaurant so best to make a booking. they have great vegetarian and vegan options. it's a bit more on the pricey side though as they charge more for guacamole, sour cream, jalapeños and hot sauce. I'm not a fan of having to pay more for guacamole when you're ordering a vegetarian meal especially when the meat options are the same price. but the food is tasty so it's worth a try.

Pepe's is always a great time! Amazing food, great vibe and it doesn't seem to matter what night we go, they're always busy! Always book ahead as it is small and quite popular but in my opinion you won't be disappointed! The staff is always lovely and as attentive as they can be, the serving sizes are very generous and I usually find it hard to finish my meal. The prices are decent for the amount of food you get and they have the best dessert nachos I've ever had! Make sure you check out the margarita menu as they have some great options while also catering to the brave customers by with their scorpion and cactus worm tequila shots! Pepe's is a staple and I never have a bad meal!

Beware: the servings for all dishes we ordered are more than generous; they are absolutely enormous. No lack of flavour due to size. I "nearly" finished my bowl of chilli con carne with rice. I would have given 5* but we live in Brisbane where summer gets hot & sticky -- massive wall mounted fans are really enough. It may be more "authentic" without a little aircon but not as comfortable. It does help the drinks ordering though..... 😉

The portion sizes are huge however everything is smothered in salsa which would be great if it was actually salsa - it seems it is just tomato paste. Horrendous. The Mexican in our group said 'the only authentic things about this place is the table number tiles and the dirt carpark out the back' 😂🤔 Sorry, we won't be back.

From 3 different waiters asking for drinks orders within 2 minutes to our table full of empty glasses seemingly becoming invisible, to us eventually ordering a second round of drinks that never arrived. The food was good but service was not so good. We asked for a glass of water and ice and they didn't bring it. I asked for no cream on my dessert and they brought it with cream on it. They then took it back and brought it back but didn't quite take all the cream off it. I asked for my meal with no beans and they then exchanged it for rice without asking and I don't eat rice and it made my crispy tostada bowl all soggy. The bill for 7 people was just over $300 with only a very small fraction of that being alcohol so I would have expected better service. But the food was good. My daughters nachos had a lot of meat but the two tostada bowls did not. But they all tasted good and the desserts tasted good. My mum was not happy they added containers for left overs to the bill without telling her.

Went with high expectations as my partner had been here before and really enjoyed it. However despite booking four days in advance we got the worst table in the restaurant. Despite being near a heater and wearing a jacket it was unbelievably cold. Probably as we were stuck right at the edge of the outdoor area and not under the roof. The food was good but very rushed I.e. mains before starters were finished. Had the guacamole fajitas and churros and all were good with the dessert being the highlight. Would recommend just make sure you don't sit on table 29. Also despite being next to a near empty car park there is nowhere to actually park as the restaurant only has about 6 spaces. There are signs warning you of the consequences of parking outside these space so we had to park 300m down the road.

I drove past this place for about the 500th time in my life before I noticed it. It’s apparently been there for 50 years! We pulled up to see the parking was already full and the place is an old Queenslander that looks like it could fall down at any minute! It’s was bustling inside and we had to wait for a table to clear. The service was excellent and constant with several wait staff looking out for anything we required. Drinks were easy to get and tasty. Food was a great price and 1 plate easily could fill 2 people. The only reason this place isn’t 5 star is because it could have been cleaner and with better parking facilities. There’s a reason it’s full and that’s because the food drink and service is very good!

I ordered fish tacos and everything was pretty nice except the fish itself was over done and fried to a dark brown. The rest of the table said their food was between alright and good. Also the table was really sticky and plates and drink glasses would get stuck to it. Our elbows and forearms were smeared with this gunk by the end of the meal. Normally this doesn't bother me, but it noteworthy from our experience.

My wife and I have been here 3 times in the last couple of years, unfortunately where we live makes getting here difficult. In saying that, that's the only negative thing I can say about this place. Every single time we have been here we have had amazing staff with great customer service make the experience from start to finish a positive one. The food has always been fresh and fast even when it has been incredibly busy. The Second we went there, we were in the area on a Saturday afternoon and asked if they had any tables available (place appeared empty). They said we had about 25 minutes before the reservation for a table was due, I was confused at first but we had a quick and tasty lunch. In the last 5 minutes we were there the entire restaurant filled up. The place has been running as long as it has because they care about quality of food and customer service, if you have issues then feel free to calmly bring it up to the waitress and they will happily sort it out. Thank you so much for all of our experiences PS: Thank Odin himself we aren't in uber eats range of this place! ;).

I was told this is the one place that is genuine Mexican food (which I've never been able to find outside of Mexico!)... Close but no cigar. Ask for corn tortillas, they're genuine, not sure why flour tortillas are even the standard serve. We had a serving of fajitas to share, which was plenty for 2 people. But 4 tortillas certainly wasn't enough for the amount of chicken provided, similarly not enough sauces were provided for that much food. No fresh lime slices, no hot sauce until we asked for any... Genuine Mexican should have these things on the table as standard. Great selection of genuine Mexican beers, and great cocktails. The decor "never been renovated since 1978" is actually really cool and adds to the vibe! Just need to lift the game on what Mexican food should be, in order to be genuine. Ok white Aussies might not like proper genuine Mexican, but at least as side servings?

First time giving Pepe's Newmarket a go. Was pretty happy with the overall experience. Looks like they have converted on old house into a restaurant. It gives the place a more relaxed atmosphere. I ordered a beef taco and Cochinita Pibil. Overall I was pretty happy with the meals, was better than expected actually. My only previous experience at a Mexican restaurant was Montezuma's, which was pretty average to put it nicely. Some might be dissatisfied with the prices at Pepe's but it seems to be in line with what you pay at a sit down restaurant these days. Will definitely return and recommend to friends and family.

If you eat in you must get the fresh guac made at the table 👌🏻 the margaritas and sangria are also divine. The musicians they get in are amazing and the vibe during Day of the Dead and other celebrations is awesome. Takeaway meals are just as delicious as table service. Sometimes you have to wait a bit but it is totally worth it. They also have a great variety of hot sauces. I’ve had breakfast there once and wasn’t that impressed - lunch and dinner are the best!!

Since the Chermside Montezuma’s closed a few years back I’ve been looking for the best authentic Mexican restaurant in the northern suburbs that isn’t a chain, and it’s safe to say I’ve well and truly found it! The interior is rustic and rough around the edges which adds to its authentic atmosphere, similar to the taqueria’s in Mexico which are very much the same. This is far from the predictable pristine Instagram restaurant aesthetic trend you’ll find in most places closer to the city or in shopping centres, but you can see these guys truly make the most with what they have and do it to great effect. The food is spot on and they have a range of liquors available to pair the mains with as well as desserts to top it all off. Larder items and sauces you won’t find in major supermarkets are available at the front counter, imported from Mexico, and they’re incredibly well stocked in most ingredients which is great. A true Brisbane treasure. Can’t wait to try the rest of the menu in future visits.. keep up the great work guys! Maintain the level of quality and service you have now and go above and beyond and you’ll do just fine.

Bottom line- this place would be amazing if the food were better. The atmosphere and decor are great, good drink menu and tequila selection, friendly and accommodating staff. But the downsides are the hectic greeting when you walk in (in spite of how busy they are, they don't have a host stand), the prices of the meals, and the quality of the food itself. I grew up in San Diego, so my standards for Mexican food are pretty high; I always feel like I could cook better versions of their food at home. The prices are just way too high for what you get for most of their menu. It's really low-quality stuff and I'm honestly really surprised that there are so many good reviews. But to be fair, most Australians haven't grown up with authentic Mexican food.

I would love to give 5 stars, unfortunately there is one massive issue with the restaurant. The food is amazing and the wait staff great. The parking is so so ridiculous and some of my friends had to park on street far away from the place. The inside seating is so incredibly hot and we were sweating like crazy. The aircon was apparently on 16°, we were seated only 2 metres from it and could not even feel a slight breeze...they should get that checked. Two of our dishes came out wrong but were fixed promptly so kudos to that. I have been to this place several times with family and never have I felt so uncomfortable. We’ve been going to Pepe’s for YEARS. We went last night to celebrate a birthday, and I have to say, it was disappointing. Our table had a variety off the menu. The jalapeño poppers were great, the fish tacos were great and same with the sizzling beef fajitas. But, having had Mexican food in Mexico and the USA, we are baffled by the liberal use of what is more like a thickened Italian passata tomato sauce (rather than Mexican salsa) poured over, smothering the nachos and around the chimichangas. The jalapeño cucumber margarita for $17 AUD was barely 2/3 cup (or 156g) of liquid after I fished out the big block of iced cucumber water filling the short glass. Because of our previous enjoyment of food there and the fact that the wait staff is friendly and pretty efficient, we won’t say “Adios” just yet.

Amazing fresh food!!! We visited on a Sunday in between lunch and dinner opening times and they were open. A lot of restaurants don't stay open between lunch and dinner shifts. We were served immediately and our meals came out in record time. Exactly the same menu as I always remember with a few nice meal and drink specials. We got enchiladas that come with rice and refried beans. We added sour cream and guacamole. The meals were sooooo fresh!! You can tell it was not microwaved like some places do!!! Generous size enchiladas and the rice and beans had plenty of flavour. The beef enchilada melted in the mouth. Topped off with our favorite delicious Mexican punch, we thoroughly enjoyed it!! I've never tried them, because the beef enchilada and chimichangas are so damn good I can't go past them. Likewise, the guacamole (made fresh at your table), the Mexican street curb and the combo dips. Mmm.... They also offer extra hot chili sauce, extra pickled jalapenos, and fresh chopped habaneros, jalapenos and birds eye chillis for those who like their heat or you can buy some pretty interesting hot sauces to take home. Price-wise, Pepe's is mid range, and good value for the taste and portion sizes. I can never finish my meal... Haven't tried takeaway from here but they seem to get lots of orders, and if you're thinking of dining in, I'd recommend booking in in advance as it gets pretty busy, particularly on Fridays and weekends.

Love the beef taquitos and the chimichagas. The hot chili sauce as a side separates the men from the boys. I could only use a little so I guess I'm an adolescent. Great atmosphere and excellent service. This is our family's go to for our Mexican fix.

If you're looking for a place to visit with family or friends who are craving authentic Mexican food, then Pepe's Mexican restaurant is the place to be. The dishes may seem pretty pricey for some as all mains are basically $20 plus; but the serving size is pretty decent. The enchiladas are a must try along with the chicken and bean burritos. While you're there, probably best try some imported from Mexico drinks - I myself tried the tamarind drink and it was pretty unique.

FANTASTIC!!! mexican food :-) have eaten here so many times and i can never get enough of the seafood fajitas and guac:-) guac is always freshly made in front of you and there is seafood fajitas are FULL of succulent scallops and prawns. the service is here is always so warm and welcoming and it feels like i’m having dinner in the comfort of home :-) love the interior decor it really adds to the feel of the restaurant

Great restaurant, truly Mexican. The bar isn't too shabby too, and they do good cocktails 🍹. The food is delicious, and you must get the avocado entree, they make it with pico de gallo in a mortar and pestle at your table!

We used Pepe's to cater for a party that we had at home. They did an excellent job. Many of the guests commented on the excellent taste and quality of the food. Would recommend highly.

It was okay but honestly a bit bland. The tacos needed a sauce. I've had some pretty amazing Mexican so I was a little disappointed. The Margherita was amazing and the guacamole was prepared in front of you which was pretty cool.
