Hands down the best Italian I have ever had. The staff were so friendly! We had Katia as our server, she was super attentive and bubbly, it was such a pleasure to have her. The food arrived very quickly, and my gosh it was delicious. The restaurant is situated in such a lovely spot right on the river. Absolutely no faults whatsoever. Will be returning for sure.

The place had an amazing location and view of the river. Went twice, once with my staff and second time with friends. Both times I was greeted with friendly staff and wonderful food. The staff who waited our today was tremendous. I wasn't able to get her name but she looked a little older with wavy dark hair. I loved her energy throughout the night despite the dinner rush. Absolutely love this restaurant. We ordered the picnic to watch the Christmas movie on the grass and it was Devine. We returned the following night to dine in and we were so thrilled to have Gus, Niko and Corrina all provide such friendly and outstanding service. We (two) had a lovely lunch this week. Warm happy friendly staff, excellent service, beautiful food and a good selection of Italian wine by the glass. We sat out front with an uninterrupted view of the river. Just lovely! I am vegetarian - he’s a carnivore. We both loved our meals. Grazie 🇮🇹

Popolo was magnificent! We booked on a whim for four, but two couldn't make it, so when we arrived, our host ushered us to the front corner table for two, with uninterrupted views of the river and city lights. Our waiter Katia, was perfect. She has a clear passion for what they do at Popolo, did not miss a glass or plate all night, and really knows and loves her craft. It was refreshing for a couple of old hospos like us to be served by true professionals. Something that is sadly lacking in some Brisbane restaruants these days, but not at Popolo. The cocktails were wonderfully crafted, (shout out to the bartender who's name I didn't get), but the star of the show was the chef. Calamari fritti, zucchini flowers and scallops for entree, followed by bug linguine and lamb cutlets. All plates beautifully presented, and the delicate balance of flavours was sublime. Then Katia recommended the pistachio pannacotta for desert, well, if you have no other desert in Brisbane this year, you have to have this work of art. Certainly one of the best meals we've had in years. Well done Popolo. 6 stars.

We had the most wonderful time at Popolo. The occasion was my friend’s retirement. We had an entree of scallops. Was gorgeous. Then we had duck ravioli, the lamb and shared a salad. It was very delicious. The staff are very friendly and attentive. We have been several times before. A great place to enjoy a lovely, tasty meal with river views and breezes.

Great restaurant in perfect location over looking the river and night lights of the city. Even though they were absolutely packed with diners it was running smoothly like a well oiled machine. A review with a difference. Those of us who are aware of Popolo are never surprised by the high standard of service and quality of the food. However on our last visit we got to experience a totally 'out there' event. We were dining with an interstate friend when, unexpectedly, there was a Medical Episode where friend collapsed and became unconscious. On alerting the staff, Head of Floor (Cloe) swung into action and took charge of the crisis. She contacted the local Lifeguard, Security and phoned 000. While the 'episode' continued, she followed 000's instructions and provided care to the (now) semi-conscious customer. At the same time, another diner who was a doctor, presented and provided primary care until the Ambos arrived and transported the patient to Hospital. it was the kind of experience you would hope for if it happened to you, but, in reality would rarely encounter. A huge shout out to Cloe and her team for the professionalism, initiative and care shown. Popolo rules !!

Fresh food, quick service, very welcoming in their greeting when you arrive and.... Views to die for ❤️ A very pretty setting by Brisbane River. Gardens. Fairy lights. Boardwalk. Can scooter, bike or walk there as its in Southbank. Nearby train station and large car park. Happy vibes, safe surroundings, lots of people of all ages. The food was very tasty, not too over powering. We had scollops, calamari, a delicious salad, cocktails and crunchy potatoes, followed by tiramisu and gellato and wild Berry sorbet. Price very reasonable. A well run operation and all the staff seem very happy and well looked after. Thank you!

Celebrated my birthday at Popolo this week. We brought the family, Popolo provided the food and fun. Everything we ordered was beautiful including drinks. Popolo offers a relaxed atmosphere with a cosy feel and river views. The service was first class and our waiter Logan was super helpful and patient. Popolo was really great from the time we made our booking, changing the norm to suit our needs. We'll definitely be back soon!

Wow, wow, wow!!! Have to say that I’ve often received good service in a restaurant but it’s rare to get outstanding service, but Corrina and the team at Popolo were amazing!!!! We were a table of 6 and not only did they accommodate our last minute request to move the booking later, we also unfortunately arrived late too - but nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was fantastic, plus the knowledge and honesty of Corrina was refreshing as not only did she recommend some great wines but she took the time to understand what we liked and then even allowed us to try some before we ordered. Cannot rate this place highly enough!! Great location, great food, great service - it’s a winner all round! Thanks Corrina, we had an awesome evening and I’m sure you will see us back there soon!

OMG the best! My partner and I could not rate this place highly enough. We visited last night- Chloe was AMAZING! Positioned in one of Brisbane's hot spots, it overlooks the beautiful calm river and booming city. Whether its a romantic dinner, family lunch or group catch up, this place will not disappoint. The service provided yesterday by Katana (sorry if its spelt wrong) was exceptional. Her service and attendance to my family was very genuine and my little nephew who is normally very shy, surprisingly opened up to her. Big thanks to the chef and staff who were working. We can not wait to return again. Recommendations for foood: (TOP PICK)Fiorentina - 500g Dry Aged T-bone. This dish is great for sharing, the meat was well seasoned and topped with Garlic Butter. It was very tender, juicy and cooked to our liking. Schiacciata - Pizza bread Arancini Quattro - Cheese Arancini Calamari Fritti - Baby Squid Polpette - Pork Fennel Meatballs Margherita Pizza Panacotta Drinks: (TOP PICK) Fruttato Trppicale - this is a very freshing tropical cocktail to enjoy in this Summer heat. Dined here on the evening of the 14th of Jan 2020. Amazing dishes. Never liked beetroot but the special of the day, beetroot risotto, was to die for. Thanks for changing my opinion about beetroot. The margherita pizza was nice but the base could be improved. Needs to be thinner so that there are air bubbles in the crust so it's nice and crispy just like how wood oven pizza should be. Waitress was lovely.

Looking over the Brisbane river, what a great spot for a fantastic meal, amazing wines and some of the best hospitality staff you will ever meet. We had the Mangia Mangia Menu - a culinary delight of 6 course of fantastic food. Bec and John who gave us such amazing hospitality matched each course with a spectacular wine - challenging my norms and expanding my appreciation for great wines and the brillant thoughtfulness that went into matching for us on the fly! The food really is very good Italian with an amazing depth of texture and flavours.. feels like a home cooked meal, made with love. The waitstaff made the night, truly some of the best! Friendly and engaging, just like a family meal without having to talk politics or religion! Highly recommended, not expensive, great food, excellent location and amazing staff.

Food is ok but quite expensive. I had the margarita pizza and the base was quite nice. But it was super oily. The other meals were a bit better the meatballs were great. The pizza came 30 minutes after the other food so half the table was finished and half was hungry. The waitress was great and frankly the table service is the main reason I give it 3 stars not 2. The view/atmosphere is great.

Was ok. The meals were very, very small and quite expensive for what they are. The pumpkin ravioli was very nice and flavourful, but was the size of an entree. The lamb rump and quail were both extremely small and disappointing. The Italian wine was nice and the redeeming feature of the whole place was the good service and view out over the water. 18/11/18 Nice Italian restaurant near the river bank. Seafood lasagna is great with good mixture of fish, mussels, clams and prawns. Can’t have enough of it. The calamari is soft and very nice as well both really worth mentioning 👍🏻. The steak and pizza are good too. The tiramisu cake is soft and not too sweet or strong alcoholic flavour. Very nicely blended. One of the gems in the south bank definitely worth a visit.

Have not been here for 3+ years so was a little unsure what to expect. But for a Saturday late lunch, it was bloody brilliant. Arancini = seriously delicious. the truffle sauce was divine. Duck ravioli = beautiful. I could have just had that. Pere gorgonzola salad = perfect accompaniment. Simple but nice and fresh. Tartufata pizza = was so damn delicious. Nicest pizza base i have had in a long time. Service = perfect. Food possibly delivered a bit quick, but in that space i understand why you would want to move people through. Price = You get what you pay for. Not over the top and I was happy to leave a 10% tip (i think that is good...) Would i go back = hell yes! I wish I could take my Dodders back to try the whole menu.

We went for a company dinner, and couldn't have picked a better place for the night. We chose from the functions menu, and this turned out to be a brilliant choice. The four course dining was flawlessly presented and prepared, the king prawns were tender and full of beautiful flavour, calamari linguine was melt in your mouth and the lamb ragu was divine. Dessert of panna cotta and tiramisu was again just beautiful. Furthermore, upon complimenting the chef he sent us a plate of linguine again. The amount and plating sizes were more than sufficient, even by big eaters standards. Can't recommend highly enough, I must say one of the BEST places to dine Italian. Thank you Popolo for giving us such a wonderful evening with great food and drinks.

such a beautiful spot overlooking the river and city. we came here as the sun was setting which is wonderful to watch while having a drink. the service is very friendly here. as it is in such a great location the prices are expensive. we really enjoyed the mushroom lasagne but the mushroom pizza was very lacklustre and dry. it needs so much more flavour especially for the price. they say that the idea is that food is meant to be shared so don’t expect meals to come out at the same time.

Dined at Popolo 20/11/2020 and it was a wow experience. Beautifully located in the Southbank precinct in Brisbane with views over the Brisbane River towards the City. The decor and ambience terrific, the staff very friendly giving prompt and efficient service. And, then there's the food. Our pizza was perfectly cooked with ample toppings and very delicious. Our beverages were nice and cold. All in all, an outstanding dining experience. Full marks to management and staff.

Pleasurable dining experience for a group of 10 lunching in the Saturday sun. I enjoyed my cocktail followed by sharing one small plate and one large plate with my husband. Could not fault the delicious scallops on top of corn relish. Our large plate of tiger prawns rigatoni was quite a deep robust dish more suited for a rainy dinner but still tasted great with the capers throughout.

Nice place to go for some after work drinks or to have a casual celebration. We tried a few of the entrees and had some cocktails and wine, no faults at all with the food very tasty. A bit on the expensive side but great for a special occasion. Service was great and the waitresses were all very friendly and knowledgeable about the food. One downside was getting approached mid conversation towards the end of the night and asked to leave shortly as the table was booked for another couple. If you are after somewhere to sit for a little while and have a relaxing chat perhaps this is not the place. Apart from that everything was perfect and I'll likely come back sometime in the future.

A beautiful scenic location when dining upon dusk. Absolutely love the aranchini balls from here. Had a delicious Gnocchi Di Ricotta with crushed hazelnuts, braised wild mushrooms, goats curd, sage and truffle pecorino. Really enjoyed the pizza as well.

As Popolo is over an hours drive from us, it’s not often we get the time to come here for a special dinner experience. The food is amazing, the service impeccable, and the view , oh the view is just the best, if you can, book your dinner for 45-60 minutes before dusk and watch the amazing light show bounce off the cities’ buildings from over the Brisbane river. But really come for the food. Truely beautiful dishes that complement the Italian cuisine flavours. Will definitely have you coming back again and again as we do. If you are thinking of dining at Popolo Restaurant then stop thinking about it and just go! My fiancee and I went for dinner 3 times before I proposed, it is hands down our favourite restaurant in Brisbane. The view of the city across the river is incredible, the wait staff are fantastic, always friendly and helpful. Food is simply amazing, unique Italian cuisine, big portions that are appropriately priced. On the 4th time, I organised my proposal with the Popolo staff. I faked a picnic, proposed on the grass before the river and then had a surprise dinner celebration at a table in the restaurant with 14 family members. Everything went flawlessly, the waitress played along perfectly with the picnic plan, the chef's / staff gave us complimentary dessert and champagne to help celebrate and everybody enjoy the food so much they also said they'd be back soon. I cannot thank these guys enough, it was a night we will never forget.

Service and river views were great but disappointed with food and drink. I love a Campari Spritz but obviously very mean on the amount of Campari used the drink was very weak and lacked flavour. 2nd Review - 24th October Ordered two of the linguini dish. Seafood version this time. A bit disappointed that it wasn’t as good as the last version though. 1st Review - 21st September Food was great, just not to my taste 😅 except the linguine. Visited Popolo after catching a show at QPAC after seeing such a high star rating we decided this was the place to go. I’m sorry to say we were rather disappointed. Highlights - Our waitress was lovely, knowledgeable and service focused Wine (Pinot Grigio) was a great drop by the glass. Food timing and ambiance- lovely seating by the river The reason for three stars - Unfortunately the food was disappointing. We are huge Italian food fans, but this just didn’t fit the high price point in terms of quality or flavour. We ordered the zucchini flowers and Schiacciata to start. These were nice enough, but lacked flavour and the mozzarella was very scarce Next we had the lamb ragu pasta and the Morton Bay bugs The ragu again lacked flavour although the portion size generous, and the bugs were over cooked and if there was garlic butter on them we unfortunately couldn’t taste it. Which was hugely disappointing for the $50 price tag. We opted for a serving of fries as they were out of rosemary potato’s, and these seemed as if they had been doubled dipped into the fryer. Again, compliments to our waitress, but I do feel the location is what you are paying for here not the quality of food.

I've been meaning to write this review for some time, so I will preface this review by apologising for the delay! I came here with my partner and chose the set menu for dinner. After the entree came out we were served two of the same meal (on accident). The wait staff were extremely apologetic and gave us extra cocktails on the house. Needless to say we were both perplexed because receiving extra food is hardly a mistake! Not to mention that the food and drinks were absolutely delicious and we both left beyond satisfied! Food was excellent, wait staff were fantastic! However, the food was sooo slow to come out the poor wait staff were apologising multiple times .. and we were the first sitting for lunch. Eventually had to cancel three items ordered as we could not wait any longer. Supervisor on duty seemed like he couldn’t care less nor get us out the door fast enough, and only after we mentioned our dissatisfaction did he offer to give us a $21 item for free off a $300+ bill! Maybe we were the exception and it was just bad luck ... though we didn’t really get any explanation only plenty of “sorry, it should take this long” from the wait staff. Husband won’t go again (he missed out on his food) - expected much more for the high end prices. I will go again based on the food ... but certainly hope the food comes out much quicker next time.

I've been here twice and each time the food and service have been amazing. Visited two days ago and at 38 weeks pregnant the staff went above and beyond to cater for me, making sure I had a table in the shade and coming back to check on me and offer me cushions if needed. The staff are so friendly and the food is amazing - Highly reccomend the scallops, and the gnocchi - incredible flavour! The pizzas are excellent too. With the view and location you really can't compare. Side note, we dined at the new Italian restaurant nextoor to Popolo in what was the old Stokehouse venue a few weeks ago (don't want to name names of this Italian restaurant) - payed $150 MORE there ontop of what we would pay here for our Popolo bill - and the food there was completely disappointing for alleged 5 star fine dining. 100% recommend Popolo for an incredible, fresh Italian experience that feels super special. Don't bother going anywhere else!

We recently held a 21st dinner for eight people at Popolo's, the staff were helpful arranging the booking which was reassuring. I have to admit when I arrived at the restaurant that I was concerned, the place was busy with few staff moving quickly between tables. I looked over toward the kitchen and saw staff very focused almost concerned...........hmmmm what would Gordon Ramsay think! BUT very quickly my fears were put to rest. The staff were efficiently moving between tables, and took our order flawlessly, making great recommendations. All eight meals came out together and were delicious thanks to the focused Chef and crew. Our celebration was a great success, and I thoroughly recommend Popolo's!

We dined at Popolo tonight and had a great experience! The host was great, friendly and accommodating and arguably the best host I’ve ever experienced, especially when it came to our walk in/waitlist reservation! Once we got to our table, our waitress Larissa was incredible! She was knowledgeable and friendly, and went above and beyond for us! We shared the fried olives, half dozen of oysters, a pizza bread with tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella, a tartufo pizza, and a tiramisu, as well as imbibing in some beautiful house cocktails, and I have nothing to fault here. The quality of food here is very high, and they do Italian food perfectly but the service standards are even higher, and we left very very full of beautiful food and very happy about the incredible service from the Popolo staff. 💕

The view from the resturant is pretty. With the Brisbane river, green parkland, beautiful lights of the city, plus fireworks, made for a lovely atmosphere. This resturant was quite busy with what appeared to be, returning customers, so one can assume many people enjoy the cusine. The meal was ok. Waitress forgot to place one of our meal orders and was very apologetic. We were offered a returning gift certificate which was appreciated. Linguine with seafood was a little disappointing as muscles were over cooked and over all the dish was light on the seafood. Pumpkin risotto was crunchy in parts with a taste of uncooked rice. Arancini balls were the highlight for me. Delicious! Staff are very friendly, and service was prompt. I may have gotten this resturant on a bad night so I might give this place another try before writing it off completely.

It is a shame when a few little things ruin an otherwise great experience. This is a good restaurant that could easily be great if only they would attend to the detail to be great and get 5 starts for this review. So lets start with the good points. The location is brilliant, what a great place to sit and watch the city go by. The food is great, among the best Italian I have eaten, including in Italy. The service was friendly and efficient so what went wrong? Mid-Summer in Brisbane you would think that the ability to serve a cold beverage was a basic requirement but alas, at Popolo, if you want a cold soft-drink then you will be disappointed. Instead of an icy cold Coke Zero, you get a warm drink in a glass of ice that melts in minutes. Similarly, the water is warm to hot - remember it is 30+ degrees out there. The beer and white wine may be chilled, I don't know, but if you want to avoid alcohol for any reason you will have to suffer a warm drink. To make matters worse, their batch of Diet Coke seemed to be past its best before date and was flat as soon as it was poured. So, good but not great all because someone decided not to invest in a big enough drinks fridge. Given that it is an alfresco venue in a Brisbane Parkland that is a major oversight.

Suckling pork 10/10 !!! Picked this restaurant spontaneously with my partner whilst walking along the beautiful riverfront of south bank before our show at QPAC and do not regret it one bit ! The staff were friendly and welcoming, giving us enough time to have a couple of drinks before ordering without being pushy which was a nice change from other restaurants we have experienced, not to mention the amazing wine recommendations they gave to compliment our food. Prices were very standard for a restaurant overlooking the beautiful Brisbane City landscape. We started off with the smoked eye fillet that were beautifully complimented with the saltiness of capers and crunch of the mustard cress. We also had the cannelloni, a must have from an Italian restaurant.. YUMM ! For our mains we couldn't go past trying their "famous suckling pig" which didn't disappoint. The portion sizes were perfect, not to mention the surprisingly mind-blowing combination of the apple and peach compote with the anchovy sauce... Props to the head chef and kitchen staff ! Didn't have time to try the dessert as we were running late for our show but will be back to give them a try. Have recommended to all of my family and friends.

Situated perfectly at River Quay Green at the Eastern end of Southbank Parklands, this has become a favourite place for a quick meal when in area. The salt n pepper calamari is a standout for me. *General comment (26/04/2013)* The food and drinks were good (except the pizza) but too expensive for what we have in the plate and glass. - Pizza are not what you expect from such a restaurant: too small and taste like frozzen food. - Too much focus on meat/fish and sauce on every plate, but without any garniture (vegetable/carboHydrates). You have to pay extra to get bread, rice or potatoes. This is not acceptable especially for what it costs to them and the price we pay. - Wine, coktails and digestifs are good but too expensive. *Exact menu* _Aperitif_ - Margarita: not very good $16 - Passegiata: good $16 - Popolo Bloody Mary: good and original $17 - They could have added few olives and pickles for the Aperitif. It is cheap for them and would have made the price more acceptable. _Starters_ - Bianchetti Fritii: very good and reasonable price for what you get 12$ - Carpaccio di manzo affumicato: very good and reasonable price 12$ - Piatto di antipast: excellent but too expensive 24$ _Main_ - Controfiletto con prugna sugo: the roast beef was excellent but lack carbohydrates and vegetables for the price $33 (suggestion add crusty asparagus and fried potatoes with rosmary and thym) - Lattonzolo e pesche: the pork and sauce were very good but ratio fat/meat was too high. no carbohydrates and vegetables (not acceptable for the price $35). - Pizza Gamberi Aglio: forget it. ingredients and quantity are absolutly a disappointment for $17. No doubt gambas where frozzen food. A shame for an "Italian Restaurant". Go to the pizzeria at UQ. it is better and cheaper. - Orechiette al ragu di conniglio: very good rabbit and pasta. but lack of vegetables inside. Too expensive for what we have $30. _Dessert_ - Crostata di fichi: mascarpone had no taste, frangipane was too dry. too expensive $15 _Digestivo_ Grappa di Brunello Montalcino: very good but ridiculous quantity for the price $12
