Awesome venue with live music and great service. Upstairs, elevated, bar and outdoor tables with stylish industrial wood finishes. The bar is stocked well with beers on tap, wine, cider, spirits and excellent cocktails.
The food was delicious and came out quickly considering how busy it was. Fills up very quick on Fri & Sat nights so get in before 6:30-7:30 if you want a table.

Great restaurant. Food is excellent. Staff are very helpful. Atmosphere was so enjoyable, oh, and great choices of beer 👌 👏
D. G.
Amazing atmosphere and food and service. Third time I've been here and have never been disappointed in the staff, atmosphere and food. Highly recommend the wood roasted half chicken and then roasted humpty doo barramundi. Probably won't be the last time I'll be back here

One of my satisfied dinner last week went to @thecharmingsquire in eatery area @eatsouthbank. We went to had beautiful dinner there and enjoy their own craft beer. You guys might have walked passed this opened big venue before and you might think they are serving just finger food, pizza and snack for bar area but trust me you should try to check out their restaurant side for delicious beautiful food.
What we had 🍴
🐷 CRISPY SKIN PORK BELLY (DF, GF) Roasted apple, cauliflower puree, Blue Dog Farm leaves, jus
🥩 WOOD FIRED RIB FILLET
300g Riverine Premium beef, spiced cucumber & sprout salad, brown bread sauce
🐔WOOD ROASTED HALF CHICKEN
Almond puree, manchego & chilli zucchini chips
🐟ROASTED HUMPTY DOO BARRAMUNDI (OF, GF)
Romesco, orange & Blue Dog Farm herb salad
PS. Superstar service from that night goes to Jasmin ! She is super friendly

Great spot, good music and cold beer. Love the selections and atmosphere, food looks delicious.

Good atmosphere. Food in restaurant is different menu and much more expensive than in the main bar area.
Live music was setting a happy vibe and the staff are all so helpful. You can see that they know their stuff and if you are unsure of what beer is right for you, they are great at helping....speaking from experience 😉

I wish I could of stayed long enough to try all the beers and one of those absolutely mouth watering pizzas. Really cool place. Inside had that sort of industrial look with the exposed cirling and copper pipes, which was good for air circulation and was exactly a good way to spend a hot Sunday afternoon.
p.
The Potato Gnocchi and the Tartufo pizza was absolutely amazing! We loved the vibe, service, place and beer. We'll be back! Thank you! Balint and Timea

Nice place, staff were friendly, though a little set in their sections that some were just standing there stareing into the stars whilst others were racing around trying to clear tables.
Food was okay. We ordered the double beef burger and the fish & chips.
Burger was well made and the sauce-to-meat ratio was good. Flavour was good and glad to see some onion and pickle in there. Nice. Fish and chips were a little disappointing. The house made James squire beer batter did not live up to the name and just tasted dirty. Either it wasn't made fresh or the fish fryer has dirty oil but it was near inedible. The fish itself was cooked perfectly and had good flavour. It did need seasoning as it clearly didn't hit the seasoning bowl from the fryer and salt and pepper aren't provided at the table. The fry portion on the fish and ships was wayyyyy to big and the chef in me was screaming internally "food cost!". The slaw was tasty and fresh but again lacked a little seasoning which could have been overcome again with salt and pepper at the table. The side sauces provided were okay - masterfoods tartare is perfectly fine for pub grub fish and chips but plain mayo with the fries for the burger again left my taste buds lacking.
The live music was excellent and the atmosphere was on par for what I had expected.
The beers were cold and fresh and the place was clean and tidy so overall a good experience.
I'd go here again for a Friday night afterword drinks but probably not for dinner.

So with the inability to award half stars I’ve started with a new theory of what ever the rating now should it be higher or lower. Rated 4 stars currently I figure the Charming Squire should be a 4.2 maybe 4.3 so I’m going with 5 to bring the average up. On with the review... dropped in for lunch today and had a great set of ribs while my mate had the Parma. The food took a little while but with the understanding it was actually being cooked rather than heated we were happy to wait and polish off a really good alcoholic ginger beer. Ribs were cooked perfectly and the chips were fresh and crispy. The slaw was average. Service was good. Probably the downside was the table was sticky. Well worthy of a stop for lunch.

Went there yesterday to meet my dad so he could introduce his new partner and so he could meet my gf. Had the sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce which was good. Unfortunately my gf got food poisoning from the beer battered fish and chips. Aside from that the staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was nice and laid back

Best Christmas Staff Party Ever
Thanks to Fay and Sam, Stafford SS had the best Christmas party ever. From the early communication to being hands on and helpful on the night the staff were incredible. Fay helped organise a great location for 45 guests while Sam helped hide our Christmas supplies and games. We accidentally left a small Christmas tree behind and Fay looked after it. So happy with the whole experience.

Had a perfect experience last night in the restaurant. Jasmine's service was impeccable, and the chicken and steak we got couldn't have been better. Banoffee pie pictured was also wonderful! Had a really sweet anniversary evening.

Great service from the get go.
Booked a few weeks ago.
And arrived to friendly happy helpful service.
Great table.
Food was delicious. Pork belly. And the gnocci.
Plus the peach iced tea cocktails.
We then moved into the bar after dinner.
And had prompt VIP service.
The vibe was on point. Looking forward to trying the gc venue asap too.

Visited on a Tuesday mid day which wasn’t too busy and honestly didn’t have the best experience.
We had to wait an average of 30+ minutes to get our food. When we enquired why the table next to us were getting all their food before us even through we had arrived and ordered at least 10-15 before them. Floor manager doubted us and said that they ordered first.
Nothing was really done until we pulled out our mobile order receipt and it showed that the order was put through 45 mins ago.
We ordered through the online ordering system which in my opinion has never been great at any restaurant. Everyone’s food came out in 10-15 minute intervals despite ordering around the same time. And when the margarita pizza I ordered came to the table it was lukewarm. For something that is made fresh it makes me wonder how long it was sitting in the kitchen. Not worth the $24.
If we had a waiter it would have been a much better experience and gone a lot smoother but they did mention being understaffed. I completely understand that there were probably technological issues however there was so compensation for the time we had to wait for it to be noticed and fixed.
At the end of the day, the staff were generally helpful and kind which helped really with the experience and apologetic when we left.

Great dining/drink place situation at a great location.
Wide range of drinks and love their brewery. Food can be very impressive depending on what you order. Beef ribs was super tender it falls off the bone. The grilled chicken my colleague had was rather over cooked and rather dry.

We visited The Charming Squire on 30/04/21 for lunch. We ordered Salt and Pepper Calamari, Pulled Pork Sliders, and a Di Carne Pizza.
We went there after my daughter and my husband both enjoyed their lunch last week, so we ordered the exact same dishes when we went there today.
The filling on one slider was less than half the size of the other, and you can see it in the photo. I took the little one and all I could taste was sauce. It contained the same fillings but only a tiny portion of each.
The calamari crust was slightly crisp, but had a doughy, uncooked flavour, and the oil it was cooked in wasn't pleasant, as it had a fishy smell. It appeared very white compared the the golden calamari my daughter and husband enjoyed previously.
The pizza tasted great but was just slop in the middle. You had to scoop it up with cutlery, as you couldn't pick it up at all. We were quite disappointed after the glowing review of just last week. Consistency seems to be lacking. We will not be going again.
P. D.
A great space close to the south bank. Wide range of James Squire drinks as well as various others. Pizzas were delicious; the base tasted freshly made.
L. D.
We've been enjoying exceptional quality meals here for years. 6 months ago we found a few things had slipped in standard. Today even more so. The food today was more like a "good cafe meal"... whereas before, in our opinion, every meal was top quality - fine dining standard. A lot of our favourites are no longer on the menu. Previously we really enjoyed the great personalities of staff and their attention to detail. Today, I wouldn't fault staff, just nothing outstanding. The waitress explained the change in menu was just for today, because the brewhouse had a Father's Day special going. This family, celebrating Father's Day in the restaurant today, was left a little disappointed and hesitant to return.
D. R.
My favourite bar in Brisbane. So many amazing standard beers and the occasional special beer worth a try. The restaurant serves great food as well!
J. M.
Had our staff Christmas party here and Faye was absolutely amazing through out booking process for our party and was very prompt with help for any questions I had. All of the staff and bartenders were so lovely and the food came out very quickly and was delicious.
A. L.
Good place to meet friends and have a few drinks. Good selection of James squire beers and delicious cocktails. Make a mean Long Island iced tea. Was one of the few places open and letting people in after midnight in the area. Would visit again
M. C.
Certainly charming - the atmosphere is quite nice, staff are 50/50. Our waiter was fantastic but two other staff members were rude and unhelpful. The food was brilliant (we ordered the linguine, salmon fish of the day, lamb BBQ of the day and fries) however would not recommend any of their by the glass wines. Disappointingly, the men's toilets only have urinals. If it wasn't for the food, this venue really would be a 2.5-3.
K. V.
Amazing food, friendly service and they were very helpful with having us done in time for our show at Qpac
T. C.
The menu prices were reasonable and the food was enjoyable. I really loved the alcoholic ginger beer, It was a terrific accompliment with my meal.
A.
Pre booked a dinner before an event at the Exhibition Centre, the Charming Squire is more than just a pub. The restaurant offers a great selection of food and each day cooks either pork/beef or lamb over a coal pit. I would recommend ordering sides with the meal as the meat dishes in particular only come with mash or chips. Everything we had was cooked perfectly, the steak to medium rare and sauces were full of flavour. On busy days there is live music which is heard from the restaurant, which added to the ambience.
M. R.
Came for an event, Tyler was a fantastic bartender but that’s where the compliments end unfortunately. Function servers quite unprofessional, food really odd for a function and not nice. Servers decided to serve right in the middle of speeches? Either way I wouldn’t recommend hosting an event here.
A. W.
Loved the atmosphere of this pub and in particular the young lady that served us. She was very professional but her sense of humour however through.
S. C.
Always a great place for a cold beer on a hot day!!
E. W.
Relaxed and positive atmosphere. Staff were all very friendly on our Friday night visit. Spacious venue with big clean tables. We liked the brewhouse decor, viewing the brewing equipment being display glass. Great live music, good songs and not too loud. Delicious beer at great prices - $9 for a pint. Ordered food from the brewhouse menu. A bit on the expensive side but very tasty - the aranchini balls were a hit and pulled pork sliders were tasty but could have used much more sauce.
J. M.
It was ok, felt a bit rushed to order, no baby changing facilities, I wouldnt say child friendly at all, however they did have highchairs.. the menu was a bit bourgeois, hard to pronounce and foods id never heard of, and i wasnt at all fussed with my straticalla(cheese) rocket and fruit salad was quite bland and awful at same time and very expensive for the amount there, previously had aranchini balls they we dry and not very flavourful, the pasta had WAAYY to much chilli, the gnocchi was overpowered with mushroom.. Better choices on the pub menu but were told we couldnt order from that menu. The bombe alaska for dessert was beautiful though.
A. E.
Great atmosphere and position but food service was very average. It wasn't that busy but meals for a table of seven was spread over 30 minutes between first and last to be delivered to table
E. P.
Great food, beer and service. They were very accommodating and kindly let us know about the meals and beers. Best to book in advance.
W. L.
Came here for a farewell lunch. I found that the staff who took our food orders was unfriendly and highly irritable because I ordered food and my friend went off to order drinks. No idea why. Anyway, the food was interesting although a tad more expensive. But I like the area we sat in upstairs and there are discounts for our company. Tried the Prawn and Crab Linguine - lots of broken shells and sand. Be careful if you order this.
J. W.
Very fine food and service. One of the best Jus I have ever had with a 24 hour slow cooked steak. Duck was amazing too. Kitchen takes pride in their fare and it really shows.
A. T.
We really enjoyed our time here! The food, live music and the atmosphere was fantastic. I also found that even when it was busy, drinks and food were served quickly. I definitely recommend the pizzas; they were delicious!
E.
I can't review the food as I haven't eaten there yet but I will praise the coffee. I get a pretty good oat milk latte every time I come by.
So go get a coffee and compliment his beard.
T. P.
I didn't have very many expectations when I first arrived at The Charming Squire, all I knew was which of their beers I knew I liked. The menu is quite extensive with extra options for lunch, and pizza available after 5pm. The steaks are a reasonable enough price. For lunch I shared the dry aged sirloin and drank their 'Jack of Spades' porter. The steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned on the plate, and the red wine sauce I had with it was tasty and would be a perfect accompaniment to any steak. The steak was garnished with a wedge of lemon and snow pea tendrils, which seemed like unnecessary additions and detracted from the overall visual appeal of the dish. The salad was plain and left unfinished, a let down compared to the rest of what I was served. Those who ate with me got the charcuterie plate which was well presented and enjoyed by all, the only downside being the roasted garlic which wasn't soft and a mild disappointment. James Squire beers are consistently good quality, and being that this is the home of James Squire you can find the whole range on tap. The service was of an acceptable quality but for the amount of staff our table was not cleared for a very long time after we had finished our meals. Overall I did enjoy my experience at The Charming Squire and if you're looking to have a decent lunch with friends and family this is a good place for it.
K. P.
Ordered chips and some drinks. If you are a vegetarian like me make sure you request for a fish-smell-free chips. I just ordered chips without specifying that they shouldn't be fishy and ended up with a sad bunch that were untouchable. More drinks to vanquish my hangry self!
J. M.
On Saturday night we went to a function at " The Charming Squire" and the staff were amazing especially Tyler and Renato.
Great service. Thanks for a great night.
S. G.
Food was not bad. Not great but not terrible. Was a fairly large meal for the price paid. However quality of steak was terrible, sauce didn’t have much flavour. Frittes were good. Service at counter when ordering was good otherwise non existent. Would consider going back to try other options.
D. J.
Enjoyed the steak I had, a long with the chips that came with it, and my drink was also good. Everyone with me also enjoyed their food, but had minor complaints about certain elements such as the salad, the garlic on the platter that wasn't soft as it should have been, and the somewhat sad garnishes. Nice atmosphere and quick service though
A. D.
Perfect for after-work drinks or a pre-show feed. We went expecting a 45 minute wait, but our food came out in less than 20 minutes on a busy Thursday night. Always great service, and even better food and beers.
D. W.
The parmi ham was a bit thick, but pizza was really good. The paddle of beers are really good.
I. B.
A nice place with a very relaxed atmosphere. Staff did blunder my steak order and took longer than normal to fix it. Wide varriety of alcohol and even some hidden drinks not listed on the menu. For me, it stocks Lagavulin so it gets an extra star.
N. N.
This is a great pub to meet friends or head to for dinner. Drinks are varied, on tap and super easy to order. And large. The staff a friendly and the atmosphere is really relaxed. It's really spread out and there's as DOSA that you can take your drinks to. Love coming here. Oh, and the food is great. Highly recommend the pizzas.
D. M.
Great drinks, stunning establishment.
Food though was very disappointing in quality .
A. S.
Great range of beers, quite good food but came out quickly which is what you want when going to a show A little noisy but not overbearing
C. R. (.
Very nice and friendly people here and also food is very delicious. Not far from the city only 5-10 walk over the bridge. And also just close to another pub and restaurant on this area. You won't be disappointed.
L. S.
The Charming Squire was decent. Delayed service when ordering through table service however more importantly the bathroom signage was subpar. 5/5
P. S.
A little pricey but a classy vibe - staff are excellent .. I had the salted calamari for nibbles and wasn’t very impressed later on a Thursday night but I’ll be back again to give it another go
O. K.
This is a fun place to be especially if you love Pale Ales, Larger, etc. Vibe is quite casual and noisy, perfect place to chill with your pals if you are in a mood for banter.
They also do ciders and other form of cocktails / drinks so not to worry if you are not into Beers
D. M.
Nice vibe, lively, plenty of beer and other drink options, clean place, friendly/helpful staff. Multi-level place with plenty of room to move around. All major credit cards, including American Express (AMEX) accepted without any ridiculous surcharges. I will be back here next time I'm in Southbank!
A. M.
Open pub style atmosphere. I believe they stock the full range of James Squire brews here. Quality quick food that is pre-paid at the counter. Positively surprised by the handmade potato gnocchi – just perfection. Nice view of the Southbank Ferris wheel when dining outside.
L. H.
Not always consistent! This visit was worse than usual. Barely a the star rating. Only because of the decor . Very pricey food! About $40 for a main course pub style without efficient table service. Better of at a good restaurant.
Usually very noisy as the large open area doesn't have sound absorbing materials incorporated e.g.. carpet, wall panels. There is
bar stool seating also by the street - rather noisy and smelly car fumes at times.
My $22 cocktail came full of ice and no straw or swizzle stick to eat the fruit that was the main stay of the drink. They don't do paper straws. See the photo
B. L.
Great food, good music, good beer.
Only negative I can say is a little expensive. But everywhere in the city is...
N. M.
We hold monthly R+F events at the Charming Squire and they are absolutely fabulous to deal with. They meet all our needs and its a great afternoon.
D. M.
If you book into the restaurant, the food and service is absolutely amazing, really high quality creative dishes. The bar areas are also great, but expect bar snacks that are delicious, and loud seating areas. great bar before you see a show. Live music on Fridays is great after work, although can get really busy
M. L.
Ah so Good food. Fresh sallads, fresh flavors and beautiful presentation. Service was very very pleasant and kind.
V. K.
Had lunch at The Charming Squire restaurant and everything was delicious and beautifully presented. Fast, friendly service.
K. R.
we were going to a show at qpac and the staff asked what time the show was to check if we'd have enough time which was considerate, seeing as we hadn't mentioned it. the mushroom pizza is one of the best I've had in a long time. if you want to get away from the crowds go the bar on the corner.
D. M.
amazing food and amazing beer. one of my most favourites. great to relax with a cold drink after supanova
L. T.
Overpriced for what it is. Paying premium for average beer in a premium location. Much better spots in close proximity.
J. C.
The fish and chips are very oily. However, I enjoyed my chicken and winter vegetable dish. A great ambience in the distillery and great spot for large groups.
R. H.
Organised a function here and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. A special shout out to Fay who went above and beyond to help with my lack of personal preparations.
B. S.
Great selection of craft beers close to river. Worth a visit, large bar! Brewers pantry linked to the bar. It serves breakfast.
E. I.
Great location, spacious and friendly staff. The wagu burger was ok, but the di carte pizza was too salty. We may have chosen the wrong option though.
G. M.
Friday night is packed. Nice environment, live music great beer and food. It is convenient as it is close to the train station, but a bit expensivea and it is still a pub.
A. D.
The space is great, staff are warm, food was delicious and the live music was perfect. One of the best places to be in South Brisbane.
T. T.
Great atmosphere. Good live music at night. During the day a great place to stop and have a beer or two or three. Their food is always good and you can’t go past a ploughman’s lunch.
Z. L.
Great Atmosphere and Beer! 🍸🍺
Food is pretty average each time I've visited, however, it makes up for it in vibe and interior. Always a great spot to catch up with friends over a few pints / cocktails.
D. K.
Friendly staff, great beer. Not the cheapest place but worth a stop.
D. C.
great tasting beer with easy to read beer guides, great staff with knowledge of the product. also plenty of space and views into Southbank. didn't eat but the menu looked delicious! definitely going back.
L. W.
Food in the restaurant a little pricey but the food was lovely. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff
D.
First time here was for a work Christmas function, so I came back for some more delicious food. Their sliders were yummy, ambience was chill and pub-like. Staff seem cool but not the warmest bunch in the afternoon.. *meep morp.. zeep* but other than that I really enjoyed the food, the non alcoholic ginger beer was really good especially with a squeeze of fresh lime juice. Presentation of the food looks a lot better than in my pic lol
L. S.
Lovely wild boar and kangaroo sausages. The mash potato was tasty too. Amazing table service. Food was prompt and well presented.
J. “. W.
Service was slow. Not enough staff to serve us - kitchen was continually ringing the bell to indicate cooling food at the pass.
Loved the banoffe, but thought the wooden board it was served on was affected by repeated washes, and had a white substance on it.
Would probably go back though to try a main.
L. K.
Decent selection of small batches on tap, my staff experience was positive. Would not come here when it's packed though. Thursday nights- really nice.
K. S.
Lovely food. Came here for a dinner date with my father. Dan is a brilliant, friendly and down to earth staff member. He also made an amazing coffee. Happy days. Highly recommend!
S. F.
Only been here once but that big breakfast I got was legit.
Definitely recommend the breakfast I got.
Food came out relatively fast and service was meh.
4 stars because the iced long black I got was well watered down and they messed up friends order. Was fixed but the guy just kept looking at us weird like we were scrwing with him...we weren't hipster dude.
C. A.
We had a great time at the Squire. We made a booking for a large group and they set us up with our own area. The handsome man behind the bar (Matthew) was a fantastic bartender who looked after us and our party all night. The staff were lovely and despite it being very busy, everything ran smoothly. A great experience - thanks everyone!
W. W.
A great place to catch up with freinds for a frosty beer.
B. C.
Great atmosphere, the charcuterie board is fantastic, thanks to Chris for making us feel so welcome!
R. J.
Charming Squire, Grey Street, So. Brisbane... an impressive name for a restaurant and the Customer Service we received from its staff was decent. The ambience, the layout of this place is what I would call a " modern Industrial Cabin", and loved it. I also felt comfortable as the place looked clean, nothing sticky on chairs and tables to wipe. However, if you are a food expert, or simply loves good food, this is not the one for you. Based on what I've seen, eaten and drank, their focus is mainly on drinks and customer service, which is great. Except, I wanted good food, too. So, yes my 3--star rating was solely for the ambience and cleanliness of the restaurant, Covid protocol included, and customer service.
M. W.
Really great food and awesome service.
The atmosphere in the restaurant definitely different to the bar area, which was appreciated. Our waitress was very attentive, and very friendly, which helped make our experience. Food was really delicious and presented very well. Pricing was reasonable for the quality, venue and service, and great drinks selection too.
Overall a quality experience.
C. C.
We had a really nice meal. Enjoyed trying the different beers, as well as people watching from our footpath based table.
S. P.
Great beer and the food will surprise you.
Recommend to everyone
A. T.
Very quiet but did visit on a Monday night, big selection of James squire beers. Limited menu but the prawn pizza was the best I have ever had. Simple but tasty
M. S.
The staff were excellent and very friendly. We had a really great time.
E. P.
Great place for a casual bite with friends or family with an awesome atmosphere. Can get very busy so get in early to get a decent table.
L. R.
Got to sample a few differnt things before I settle on the cider. So delish
Y. W.
Stopped in for lunch with my 4yo son, I knew it was a good atmosphere & good food, but the guy behind the bar went over & above to make sure my son was settled & had his own watered down Orange juice while I had my full flavoured XPA.
D. C.
Friendly staff and a chill relaxed vibe, delicious food and first class craft beer. Went out on a date and we both had a really good time. Would recommend!
D. G.
Interesting pub bit modern looking but great selection of beers. Also had some food it was good for a pub and quick. Sat outside for lunch just be careful of homeless types who try to grab your beer as they walk by.
C. W.
Great atmosphere and friendly staff, good love entertainment on Saturday night and a fun crowd. Plenty of tables and room. Can book into restaurant or hang at main bar, some shared tables which is great on a weekend.
J. B.
Good range of drinks, nice atmosphere, on the expensive side...
A.
Was looking forward to the ribs as I had them at the Curious Squire in Adelaide a couple of years ago and they were AMAZING. These ribs were tender but that was it, complete lack of flavour and there was ZERO smokey whiskey flavour to them, not even a hint. Pork sliders we “ok” but nothing great, chicken salad was apparently average. Sad to say the chips were the nicest part of the meal. The places was very quiet so that can’t be an excuse. Would not recommend.
S. S.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, fish & chips with coleslaw & being able to share this large meal made it better, thanks to the staff recommendations. The only thing that annoyed us, was a customer smoking, near us on the deck, sadly we couldn't sit any longer, as it got stronger & consistent.
A. S.
Fantastic service and the food was simply divine from entree through to dessert.
S. M.
Simply the most wonderful place our snapshot service and courtesy of a bygone age of friendliness and brilliant food and beverage. Love coming here.
J. W.
Great metting place with a variety of beers and other beverages. Meals can be so so.
Had chicken schnitzel here Saturday night and it was as dry as. Have had a fungi pizza before and it was a bit ordinary and then another time it was ok
L. H.
A decent pub with a good selection of beers, wines and spirits. Slightly on the pricey side, but look out for happy hour. Not too fancy, a good location in Southbank and offers good pub grub. Staff are great. A special mention to Beau who takes the 'charming' out of the Squire to be as rude to customers as humanly possible.
Enjoy!
O. M.
Great atmosphere and vibes. Wide range of fresh beer. It’s always quite cold which is ok in summer and not so good on colder nights. Food is pricey and average.
F. Y.
Tasty Rose on tap! Big glass good value. Veggie wrap was good. Overall an enjoyable experience.

The beer is very nice but the function food we had for a party on the 12/12/20 was bland and tasteless , also warm and needed seasoning, the meatballs were undercooked. Overall I think with all the kitchen staff I did see, they may like to taste the food being served to ensure it is the best they can offer and temperature checked before leaving the kitchen for food safety guidelines. 3stars is for the beer.
R. K.
Great food, wine, and of course beer. The service was also very good. Would definatly return again.
T. B.
Great atmosphere. The bar staff very friendly and the food was very good. I thought the beer was a bit pricey but it was very good.
L. H.
Not always consistent! This visit was worse than usual. Barely a the star rating. Only because of the decor . Very pricey food! About $40 for a main course pub style without efficient table service. Better of at a good restaurant. …
M. W.
Really great food and awesome service.
The atmosphere in the restaurant definitely different to the bar area, which was appreciated. Our waitress was very attentive, and very friendly, which helped …
K. O.
Good place for a drink after visiting Southbank, plenty of seating and tables to sit at, can get very busy at times.
Good selection of beers and wine.
Y. W.
Stopped in for lunch with my 4yo son, I knew it was a good atmosphere & good food, but the guy behind the bar went over & above to make sure my son was settled & had his own watered down Orange juice while I had my full flavoured XPA.
K. A.
Drinks are a little expensive but the food was good and the ambience was great!
D. M.
If you book into the restaurant, the food and service is absolutely amazing, really high quality creative dishes. The bar areas are also great, but expect bar snacks that are delicious, and loud seating areas. great bar before you see a show. Live music on Fridays is great after work, although can get really busy
M.
Not the best wings I've had but great service and good beers
R. K.
Great food, wine, and of course beer. The service was also very good. Would definatly return again.
J. B.
Staff where exceptional, great service and very friendly with my son
j. h.
The steak here was really great.
S. D.
Good atmosphere and beers, although if you order the cheese board, byo crackers or bread. Cheese board has a lot of great cheeses, dips, pickles and meats, however only 4 small pieces of bread. It's impossible to enjoy. You'll end up eating blue cheese and pate straight and arguing for 5 minutes for a reasonable request for some additional bread or Crackers out of principle.
If they fixed up the cheese board and accepted reasonable requests from customers, place would be 5 stars. It's the simple things, right? Wrong (if you're the customer in this place)
J. L. F.
Food was fantastic, service was great, clean venue, I would like to see some more family friendly options. (Kids meals and drinks)
I know it's not the usual family venue, but I was still accommodated for with my 6year old son. Will certainly visit again.
L. A.
Amazing staff food, drinks and of course beer
A. M.
Great place to have dinner or drinks with friends. The only thing you need to be aware is that if you are in your 20s or low 30s you might want to go to another restaurant or pub as the customers that usually visit this place I've noticed that they are above 40s.
N. C.
Bar staff were rude, glasses were scratched and had water marks on them. Food looked awesome though, shame didn't stay to try it
L. R.
Awesome Layout, great selection of Beverages, Food Menu doesn't have a great deal of selections and is a bit on the pricey side.
our waitress was lovely and would give her 5 stars for her service.
Food was okay, not worh the money I payed for it, but I did enjoy it
d. t.
Energetic bar with talented live music, tasty treats to eat & great all round atmosphere.
A. C.
Lovely food, professional staff. Would recommend the crispy pork belly entree and James squire tasting paddle
M. “. D.
Great atmosphere, excellent food, but most of all the staff were simply brilliant. Friendly, attentive, courteous, professional and efficient. Will definately be back!
L. T.
Good beers and pretty tasty food, but a little on the pricey side. Great for groups, but not at all an intimate setting.
I. T.
Great music for a chilled out Sunday sesh. Of course the beer was yummy. Stand out however was Baxter, excellent bartender really friendly and helpful. Two thumbs up.
K. C.
What an amazing meal. Arrived without a booking & the staff managed to find us a table. Food was great & delivered quite fast but most of all a top shout out to our waitress Chloe she was pleasant, fast & always courteous. Good staff is always hard to find but The Charming Squire has done their part in finding them. 🤗
S. A.
Went there on the weekend and they were extremely busy. Was a bit of a wait for food but well worth it, it was delicious and the service staff were very friendly and accomodating. Would definitely go back.
M. B.
Beautiful food and impeccable service from our host Jasmine. The mushroom arancini is something everyone should do before they die. Ask for the slow cooked beef shortrib as well. It will change your life.
P. B.
Great service, atmosphere, food and drinks here. I enjoyed three live music too. Can't wait until next time
A. W.
Good food cold drinks very nice place
M.
Came here for my cousins 18th. Every first choice of mine was unavailable. My opinion is don’t advertise what you don’t have. Ended up order the ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce. Food was good so for that reason 3 stars
K. O.
Good place for a drink after visiting Southbank, plenty of seating and tables to sit at, can get very busy at times.
Good selection of beers and wine.

Not the best wings I've had but great service and good beers
C. E.
Staff were polite, food was great. Large variety of beers but beer could have been a little colder. Will be back.
J. W. a. B. J.
Excellent service, excellent food! The bar and dining are mostly separate, but both provide brilliant service. From the guards, to the waitstaff, to the chefs. I have been many times, and have yet to have a poor experience.
T. B.
The Pantry (part of The Charming Squire) serves delicious coffee from 6am for us commuters. Don't forget to grab breakfast there after 7am and on weekends go wild for their insane breakfast special!
A. G. J.
A lot of space and outdoor seating. The place is atmospheric and there is music playing. There is no table service, and you have to wait quite a while time for your food.
J. M.
Beers are clean, fresh, and diverse. The food is great, too. I thoroughly recommend sharing food from the entree and dessert menus paired with a couple of cocktails or beers. The restaurant staff are also very well mannered and friendly.
The only thing is that the main bartender seems like he's never having a good day, which can be quite off putting if you wish to taste a beer or ask a question about the cocktail menu.
S. M.
Took the kids here on the school holidays for lunch. Decided to not sit in the main restaurant area but in the seating around the bar so our kids could make a bit of noise if needed ha. Staff were all really friendly, decor was lovely and the food was fantastic including the kids meals. The Ribs were falling off the bone and delicious. If anything we ordered too much food as we didn’t think the ribs came with chips (no mention on the menu) so got a side so we had chips coming out of all areas. The Pate was lovely as well. Will definitely go back.
B. L.
Exceptionally good food and lovely atmosphere. The wait staff are lovely and will happily provide recommendations as well as let you know if there's anything that they've run out of.
I tried the free range pork and it was cooked so well, it practically melted as I ate it. Definitely satisfied.
G. O.
Amazing food and a surprisingly diverse drinks selection. We never made it past the small plates as we simply ordered one of each. Fast and friendly service, great atmosphere and an exceptional live performer. Great place to meet before a show at QPAC.
R. F.
Good service. Great food. Beer definitely the one item dragging the chain unfortunately. For those not hung up on good craft beer, beer is ok.
F.
Excellent place for an after work drink. Great selection of beers, laid back but fun ambiance and central location make it a great place to get off your feet and have a drink and a chat. Live music is also usually good - which can't always be said about pubs in Brisbane.
S. C.
Went and splurged a bit but was on the corporate card anyway... had about 30 mins before my show across the road and staff brought out the food very quick. food was good overall, the wings were delicious and was the standout for me. Excellent choice for a bite before a show.
M. K.
Great service and the staff were above standard. The lamb was hands down onevof the best meals I have had in Brisbane! I will be back!
K. B.
Brilliant Brewvegas event! Talisker whisky and James Squire make a champion team.
R. N.
We've gone to both the casual dining section and restaurant. The service and attention by staff is consistently great. The food is creative and presentation is top notch (for the insta fans out there). The selection of beverages is long and well priced. As for ambiance, the team have done a great job creating a unique setting in a great location.
T. F.
Great atmosphere, lovely staff and delicious food. The only down side was after being seated at the restaurant it took a good 10 minutes before we received a menu and another 20 minutes before we caught the eye of a waitress to take our order. It was a Saturday night though, so the restaurant was very busy. But our meals came out very quickly once we had ordered and the staff were quick to apologise for the slow service when ordering.
Overall was still a beautiful night and would definitely recommend.
K. Y.
Have been a long time, semi-regular customer who loved the Charming Squire. Last two visits prompted this review ... Food took an unreasonable amount of time to be served, very ordinary goat pie and the steak was tasteless and seriously undercooked. Young and semi-competant waitress sort of looked after us. Pretty sure they just completely forgot about our dessert and had to be reminded. Did offer complimentary coffee but I won't be back anytime soon.
J. R.
Good range of beers on tap. Food is of a good quality. Personally I like their pizzas but you can't get them in their restaurant menu. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating.
D. P. C.
We came here as part of a pub crawl one night. Its quite expensive but well worth the trip to try the in-house beers which you can't buy anywhere else.
A. L.
What a top spot for a birthday party. Easy to park nearby. As the party was catered and being the awkward vegetarian I didn't have much to choose from. On asking the waiter if there would be any vegetarian platters he said. I'll get you something. About 15 mins later he came back with an awesome vegetarian dish that was the envy of all who saw it. He went above and beyond with service. An absolute champion to a hungry vegetarian. Congratulations on a job well done mate. So sorry I didn't get his name. The platters were sensational too. Top quality and tons of food for everyone. Thank you very much.
J. a. K.
Went for a drink on a Sunday afternoon. The beer is great & the live music was very enjoyable.
However, the staff are less than stellar. Had a very rude young man who appeared to be from France arguing with us over our drink orders, which was a huge turnoff. Then we tried to talk to another guy about the NYE party & all he could do was read from the flyer (that we already had!).
Could be a great place if they could hire better employees.
N. E.
Had the best 300g rump
Steak medium rare ive ever eaten with awesome chips and the best coleslaw ever also. Amazing food
C. T.
The Charming Squire has an excellent vibe and is fantastic at accommodating for larger groups. I called to see if I could book in for 30 people on a Saturday afternoon, and they allowed me to do so without asking for a deposit or demanding a minimum spend. The beer is excellent and the menu for said beer is super helpful. The food was fresh and delicious.
I would have given five stars if a single one of the staff had even bothered to smile at me the entire evening. They weren't overly friendly -- but nor were they overtly rude. Overall, it was a great experience.
D. I.
These guys do a really good salad as well is good burgers and steaks. The location is great – just next to the Brisbane convention centre. Both the bar and the restaurant areas are very good.
There is also a small cafe area open in the morning hours. The coffee is above average.
K. A.
Drinks are a little expensive but the food was good and the ambience was great!
C. j.
After not being organised enough to buy beer before good Friday and wanting to celebrate a friends birthday we wandered around the city until we found somewhere open. From start to finish was an excellent service, they clearly explained the laws surrounding the food and drinks for good Friday and had the place set up well to handle it. The food was delicious and well portioned (thank you pizza chef) and birthday girls steak could be cut with a butter knife. Our waiter, Nathan was fantastic, obviously loves his job and is generally a beautiful person. Very attentive to all of his tables with a large section to run. Had great menu recommendations and made sure we had enough food, beer and water for the time we were there. Really can't thank the staff enough for making our evening much better than we thought it was going to be. Thanks Good Friday staff! Xx
B. M.
Food and service are top quality. If you're a meat eater, you won't be disappointed. We left our plates clean and left very satisfied. We've been here twice over the course of a year, and both times staff have catered to my young son (1-2 years old) brilliantly! We enjoyed the live acoustic music providing a nice ambiance. And being so close to Southbank makes it an ideal dinner location after a splash in the pool.
D. F.
Good range of beers and the food is really nice. It's layout is a bit weird and it's on a big road - so it's not great for a special dinner. Overall though it's quite a pleasant place to have a drink before a show.
K. T.
The food was amazing, but sadly the service was ordinary. It took several attempts to get a drink and then they were slow to deliver. The side order of chips came after we had finished eating. Glad they didn't charge us for them. Seems the interest level from the wait staff is very low on a Sunday night.
V. F.
The food quality was amazing ,,,, must visit 🥳🥳
i.
This is the greatest venue, of all time. The bar manager on shift tonight resembled Hulk Hogan at the peak of Hulkamania and it truly took me back to the 80's.
I will never go to any other establishment in Brisbane, The Charming Squire is the only place to be!
J. W.
The bar manager, the one with the beard & the blond hair. He had exquisite cocktail handing skills. He shook that bad boi & poured espresso martinis in ways I've never seen before. The taste, OH The taste was amazing.
Thankyou kind sir, you are one of a kind.
T.
Busy popular venue located right on the edge a street back from South Bank parklands. It's probably one of the classiest pub in South Bank with patrons well dressed and usually a more of a mature crowd aged 25+. The venue is always busy no matter what day of the week and offers both outdoor and in door seating with an open view out to the street. The venue is well kept and we've always been satisfied with the meals on our visits.
M. Q.
The front bar has a great atmosphere, beverage selection and snack menu. Saturday nights are great fun. You should definitely try the restaurant, but for me it is a bit lost. I found it hard to tell if it was fine dining or pub grub and in my opinion the staff are as unsure as I am.
R. W.
I had tickets to a show at QPAC and had arrived early with my partner. We decided to have a walk around the area and stumbled on The Charming Squire.
We notice it was packed and all the patrons appeared to be enjoying themselves. We checked the menu board at the entrance and decided to get a table. The young woman at the front desk couldn't have been more obliging. She asked if we had a reservation, I told her that we didn't and were going to see a show. She was wonderful and led us to a table for two. We ordered and were treated to the sounds of a female performer who set the mood perfectly.
The entrees arrived promptly and were five star. My partner commented on how this was the first time she had ever enjoyed truffles in all her travels around the world. The mains were equally stunning.
Service was incredible and despite how busy they were, all meals arrived in time for us to attend the show.
Portion sizes were generous, presentation spectacular, quality second to none and amazing value, I had expected to pay substantially more. Staff were wonderful and despite a full house, we were never made to feel rushed.
I would strongly recommend booking as I believe this is going to be one of the most sought after eating venues in Brisbane, if not already.
Fabulous in every way.
C. L.
I booked a table at the restaurant to try out their pizzas cos I heard theyre good, but it turns out that it's only available on the bar side, which didnt make sense because it's connected and we could order drinks from the bar. Food at the restaurant was great but very heavy (heaps of flavorful meat) with nothing to neutralise the flavour, so it was enjoyable at the start but we all struggled to finish it. Drinks were excellent.
Bottom line is: a mixture of good and bad, but was somewhat disappointed because I was there for the pizzas.
F. C.
I’ve been here a few times but my visit on Friday night has been the best yet. Upbeat live music, dance floor and the best food! Wasn’t a massive fan of the cider (a bit on the tarty side) however that has nothing to do with the venue. Staff and security are lovely and everyone is there to have a fab time.
C. L.
Great place. Right next to South Brisbane station. Large venue. It was packed to the rafters on Friday night.
E. M.
Long one of my favourite restaurants in Brisbane. Reliable, quality food and excellent service at a sensible price. Focus on grilled meat but I'd recommend the share plates. The desserts are amazing.
N.
Great food! The menu short and sweet, desert was great, my two daughters loved it and the price was affordable. Staff very accommodating, had the food prepared and out to us because we had a show at Qpac to watch. Will definitely eat there again.
I. K.
Went in for a weekday lunch, and found we nearly had the place to ourselves - at least in the section we found first. This is an enormous restaurant! Service was polite and the food was very good. Very large portion on the fish and chips, "just right" on the burgers. Easily found food for my 10 year old.
E. J.
Smashing vibes..big praise in particular for the live musician. Also, this James Squires outlet brews a bunch of beers exclusively - be sure to get on board with the Single Hop. Love love love
J. D.
Visited the brewers pantry for breakfast on a Saturday morning, it's in a great location and not overly crowded. Staff are friendly and the food is reasonably price. Coffee is ok and we had a terrible mix up with drink orders and took quite some time to rectify this. The food is of a very high standard and plated beautifully. The hotcakes are a standout with amazing favours, definitely recommend checking this place out.
B. M.
I have been to The Charming Squire many times with my family and friends. Fantastic food and Beer, particularly The Chancer golden ale. Service outstanding also. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for somewhere to do a nice dinner out without crossing the river into the city and I will definitely be back myself.
H. G. H.
Had a underwhelming visit today. The bar staff must have been having a terrible day as she wasn't the usual friendly and hospitable person you would usually expect from front of house staff nor expected from all the other previous happy reviews. Almost took it personally if not for observing all the other patrons getting the same cool sarcastic treatment. First visit but probably will pass at a repeat.
L. C.
Really great place to meet and catch up with friends.
The Charming Squire has a lot going on, there was a live band doing covers and people were gathered around dancing, drinking and whatnot.
My friends and I managed to get a seat outside, which was difficult because the place is so popular.
Being outside was great because the music wasn't so loud that we couldn't hear each other. We were at a table which was great because we ordered food and could eat it comfortably.
C. M.
Big open setting, plenty of room inside and a decent bar to accomodate a crowd. Deck area outside is undercover and accomodates for a smoking area, nice place to chill with a drink overlooking the the busy Southbank corridor. The James Squire on tap is top shelf beer and worth the the visit to try out a few unique pints. Staff were awesome friendly and professional
C. C.
Absolutely fantastic dinner and drinks here. The entertainment was great was well with some really good musicians playing. Customer service was great - really helped compliment the really good food. All in all, a great experience and I would come back here again.
D. Z.
It is a good place to grab a drink and sit with friends and has a pleasant atmosphere. It is dog friendly if you sit outside and the barman even brought out a container of water for our dog. I found prices to be at the higher end of what I'd expect in the area.
M. T.
Big fan of this venue, right next to the train station, food is decent and beers are fantastic. Customer service is good too!
K. W.
After a conference over the weekend at the convention centre, this was the convenient spot to keep returning to... although busy at times, service was fantastic, live music was entertaining, great range of food on menu, and the range of drinks on offer was impressive. Enjoyed the times here.
B. P. (.
Great looking venue, but considering they sell their own beers, thought it should have been cheaper
J. A.
Awesome pub at the back end of South Bank with a nice variety of beers and some excellent food. The staff friendly and there is chilled music on weekends. The veggie pizza with pumpkin was yummy and everyone is reasonably priced... nice place to spend a chilled weekend afternoon
T. D.
Great venue. Nice bar staff. Quick to take your empties, was a good chill vibe with live music, huge range of beers, yummy cocktails.
j. h.
The steak here was really great.
N. B.
The few times I've dined here have been good experiences. Usually I stick to the bar area because the bar menu provides more vegetarian options that I like. The margarita pizza and arachini balls are delicious. Love the atmosphere on a Friday night. Great place to grab a drink after work with friends.
A. H.
Fast and friendly wait staff, and well stocked bar. The food was well done and without long delay, albeit quite dry.
Live music in the bar after dinner mid week was a nice addition.
Suggest sitting near the kitchen if a bustling bar isn't the backdrop you want, but I didn't find it too loud at all.
S. o. L. A.
I love this place so much, but this week they gave me a reason to love them even more. Shout out to Matthew who was working on Monday night and was just amazing. Our friend was going through a bit of an emotional crisis and was visibly distressed, but Matthew was so sweet and thoughtful and made her laugh. He was the perfect combination of professional and sweetly engaging. Our friend left with a smile on her face because of him, despite going through a rough time. Thank you
F. S.
Good beer but better options nearby
H. B.
Much bigger than expected, and plenty of room for lots of patrons. The bar staff were all really friendly and happy to help. Great music and vibe as well. Areas were all kept really clean and tidy which was a plus!
K. L.
This pub has the best atmosphere. So many tablets to sit at. Clean toilets. Close to south bank. Lots of beer on tap (Obviously) We ate in the restaurant before book of mormon one day and I ordered the Gnocchi and mushrooms. Was yummy but was a very small serving for $28. My hubby had the ribwich which was just pulled meat and a small side of chips. For the price too this was not what he was expecting. The desert was HEAVEN!!! Had like some snickers thing. I can't remember what it was called but it was delicious. Second time we went we sat in the bar and ordered the standard burger with the lot. It was not the best thing or the worse thing I have eaten. Have had better burgers for less than $25. Staff is friendly and meals sent out in a timely matter.
G. F.
Enjoyed the atmosphere, available beers on tap but food service was atrocious. 45 mins for heated cheese, what a joke.
J. F.
Whilst the food might be a bit pricey it certainly is next level in terms of quality, the drinks selection is also great. Table service was exceptional waiter knew his stuff and was very friendly.
L. S.
The food was exquisite and the service was wonderful. My daughter, granddaughter and myself are still raving about our fabulous experience. The Charming Squire definitely lives up to its name. We can't wait to return
E.
Such a great place very big open atmosphere with a light airy vibe the staff a friendly but very concentrated on the job which is understandable in such a busy environment there is also a "take away window" close to the station that does coffees perfect for a for the busy corporate workers 🤣 personally I enjoyed the large (limited to the one brand squires) selection of beers! Only gets 4 stars because the size of aioli bloody small size and definitely not adequate for the bowl of fries 🍟.
A. F.
Love this place. Enjoy the restaurant for dinner and a more relaxed lunch in the pub area. It's always really great food and service. Heaps of different choices for whatever your poison may be and prices are really reasonable too. Can't wait to be back.
G. H.
Nice restaurant but food was not up to the standard I would have liked. Very limited selection.
A. S.
Tasty craft brews. Was pleased to find a RIS on tap and a DIPA. Cheers!
M. R.
Love the vibe and the food here. If we are venturing in to the city, this is our go to. Love that they have live music over the weekends.
V. H.
Amazing food and really attentive service can’t recommend this place more highly. Great before or after a show as well
K. S.
Saturday night dinner.
We arrived without a booking on a busy Saturday night. Initially found the staff a bit strange (one who ignored us as we stood in front of him to be seated) but we were offered a choice of seating by another staff member who was happy to accomodate our requests for a quiet corner.
Our waiter was friendly and service was mostly well-timed.
For starters we enjoyed the Baked Camembert and Smoked Duck. Both dishes are superb and the chef has paired each well with accompaniments.
I ordered the Clam and Prawn Linguine which was a slightly heavier meal than I expected but delivered well on the seafood and heat from incorporated chilli.
My dinner partner was disappointed with the Boar and Kangaroo Sausages with blanched asparagus and mashed potato(Kanga Bangas & Mash). They tasted more like beef sausages with a herb infusion.
The restaurants dining area is expansive and set apart from the noisier bar area providing distance from revellers and their associated noise. There was a live band playing and the music was tasteful and modern.
The decor and furnishings are understated class.
Overall I found the staff to be a little too cold and not at all personable. No one smiled, not even once. It was strange to receive service from people who almost can’t bear to speak to you.
Prices are high but worth it. The food and drinks were expertly measured and delivered.
N. C.
An excellent little spot near the cultural hub of South Bank/South Brisbane. Good range of beer, with a lovely interior space.
M. H.
Great service. Tasty food
T. P.
I was so upset when I first saw the menu as it was late and we weren't looking for an expensive meal where you come.ouf feeling hungry. I said this the waitress who directed is to the bar menu which was exactly what we wanted. The pork sliders and burger were definitely a winner and the pizzas are fresh, woodfired and delicious!
E. O.
We hired the upstairs function room for our daughter's 21st. Ashlee and her team were so great in making sure that the food (which was incredibly fresh and yummy) and the drinks were all kept going. We had a great time, then hopped on the train next door, our daughter stayed next door at a nice hotel. Such a great central place to celebrate. Thanks.
H. R.
I came in with my family for Father's Day lunch and we could not have been happier with the service from the young girl that waited on our table. I wish I got her name. She was so fantastic. Great customer service goes a very long way. She was attentive but not pushy and very sweet and kind. If she reads, thank you (we were the table that had a booking at a booth for 11.30am)
J. L.
Love their craft beer, amazed that they made a pub in such space so successful, always busy. live music in weekend, tables outside are nice, specially before the sun goes down. I will give a five star if they can sell their beer cheaper.
g. e.
Interesting selection of craft beers. Food was good, ideal location for the theatre pre show dining.
J. H.
Over priced is the easiest way to summarise this one. A glass of tapped Rosè and pint of James Squire off tap should not come to $28.50. 6 or 8 thumb sized pieces of calamari should not be $18 and my steak was nice, no question, bit there are plenty of other places around that would be just as nice at half the price. The saving grace and reason for the 3 stars was the pizza. The wood fried pizza was actually really good and quiet generous
M. M.
Great beer and food options. Recommend this place for a quick beer and bite to eat before seeing a show at QPAC.
B. C.
Thank u Chloe, the service matched the food. Amazing. Ur boss should be very proud! We will be recommending’The Charming Squire’ & Chloe. We will also be back, so see you soon!
J. W.
Great evening spent here for an event. Staff were very professional and good clean amenities.
O. D. (.
Was pretty disappointed the only good thing about this place was the service we had from our waiter he was amazing!!! he knew the menu back to front and was honest if he wasn't sure above that we had kids and he went above and beyond to attend to any special requests we had... The food.... not really feeling it... thought it was a bit over priced for what it was... The venue is nice obviously if your celebrating special occasions the venue has the facilities i imagine Friday /Saturday night drinks would be good as a meeting place... has potential.
S. R.
Good food, good atmosphere. Not the best value in the area, but you do get a boutique experience.
G. T.
Very large neighbourhood venue, with very lively live music. Quiet areas are pretty much limited to the outdoor tables until the band takes a break. Line up to order and pay for your food, and be prepared to carry your drinks to your table through the crowd (without spilling- good luck!).
Varied menu with a lot of vegetarian choices. The arancini were tasty and fresh, the salads delicious.
Some items are only available in limited quantities so you know they are fresh. Some only sold on team home game nights (?!).
The huge open kitchen lets you know that it is all clean.
Order the chips well done, or else expect ‘blanched’ potato wedges. They are very tasty once salted, but the small dip of aioli is parsimonious at best. It either makes the portion of fries look generous, or bean counter cost cutting gone amok.
Draft cocktails, beers, and wonderful varietals of wines are served up with a smile.
I was 6th in a lineup at around 7:30 on a Monday evening to order food, they could have used a second cashier to help. The food comes out promptly, so maybe training a runner or bartender on cash for peak times would reduce the long lineups.
Tables not cleared promptly.
I have the 4* rating because of the variety and quality of food, but would have given 3 1/2* if it was possible because the service and value was really a 3.
OpenTable reservations taken.
R. D.
Food was excellent and lived up to the cost, service team were great and the range of drinks was amazing!!
r. k.
Food is great in the restaurant. Too loud in the main part though. Although, the younger generation seemed to be enjoying it. The wait staff were polite and very helpful.
J. O. G.
Steaks cooked medium and plenty of sides included and price was very reasonable. Great selection of wines. Highly recommended from fillet steak connoisseurs
J. A.
Bec was the perfect hostess. She made sure we were well taken care of. At one point , i was waiting for a friend to join me and must have looked unsure, Jorge came to ask if i needed anything. He wanted to make sure i was ok and not waiting for any food or drink. Tip top service all round. And the cocktails were flavourful , and not watery. Food was delicious! Will bring my international guests here next time.

Amazing service, very friendly staff and surprisingly fast meals!
B. R.
Great beer and good food. The meals are quite small but I am a fat and greedy bastard. I should have ordered two mains but couldn't handle the inevitable judgement of my gluttonous behaviour. Also, why can't they split bills? It's not rocket science. Hop Thief is an amazing beer to drink by the pint.
C. I.
Great James squire bar. Always a good atmosphere with all the James squire brews on tap. Restaurant also has amazing food and the staff will help you match your beer to the dish you get!
C. W.
Broad draught selection, although only their own. The lamb burger was very dry, fries were pretty good. Atmosphere nice, bar service only which simplify things.
C. T.
Pretty cool place. Staff not that friendly though.
L. B.
The staff while well presented gave off a robotic vibe just going through the motions.
We ordered the cheesy garlic bread, spicy wings, rump steak and the wildbore/kangaroo sausages. The food was well presented and the steak cooked well however the food was rather cold? Like it had sat for 10 mins under a barely functioning heat lamp. The food was well seasoned. The highlight was the Wings it was the only food that came to the table Actualy hot. The spicy sauce was tasty and left me wanting more.

Best restaurant that is right next door to the pub so book in early and usually there is live music playing in the bar so if you don't like the loud sounds of the bar maybe not for you but I enjoyed the atmosphere. Food was delicious and the service was great as well and perfect place to eat before we went the We will Rock you at the Lyric Theatre, that's just across the road and convenient parking in the Convention centre.

Excellent pizza.
BUT ... arrogant, public-servant service.
The staff seem to be there for their egoes ... not to meet customer needs.
Ok for business drinks, but not a place to take your lover

I'm a fan of James Squire beer. Here you're spoilt for choice. They even have brews I've never heard of before, like the chocolate ale. Yum! Great atmosphere, food is delicious. A little pricey though but I would definitely come back.
J. B.
Disappointed sorry. The half tandoori chicken was flavourless, and unseasoned. Service friendly but very slow. Not sure if partner and I would give it another try when we're spoiled for choice in sth bank and West end.
A. D.
Great decor and atmosphere, the food is good, though the menu is a bit sparse, lacking a lot of options that aren't pizza.
And for a James Squire branded bar mainly serving James Squire beer, they make you pay out the nose for it and that generally keeps us away from the Squire.

I have no photos as I was with a group of older people who were not the selfie-ing kind. We arrived at about 9.00pm on a Saturday night and it was fantastic. I have no idea if they're regular, but there was this cover band (two dudes with a guitar and a keyboard I think) who played 80s stuff. We danced (badly) until midnight.
A wonderful night I hope to repeat!

Excellent customer service! We thought we accidently left a bag of shopping behind and when we went back to check (and couldn't find it) the staff checked the CCTV and also looked for us. Unfortunately, we didn't find it but we really appreciated the effort. The lunch we had was delicious - so would also recommend the food. Only draw back is it is quite expensive $$

Been to both the restaurant twice, the cafe one and the bar once. Food was great every time and the beer good. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. The food can be a bit dear, but about par on the South Bank.

Had an event here, food and drink is good and because it wasn't from my pocket I can't comment on price. The downsides were slow service on the sit down meals, this took a completely unreasonable amount of time although again, this may be partly to to with their coordination with the event too. The biggest let down for me was the loud live music downstairs (which in itself was not terrible) but no way to close the space off from this. Sitting at the front still trying to hear someone on a microphone over the music doesn't make for a place I'd ever suggest someone using again.

Great location, handy to public transport and parking. Wonderful atmosphere on week night. Can get busy, recommend booking ahead. Good fantastic and a great choice of drinks. Highly recommended.
J. M.
Nice atmosphere. Good music but not too loud so you could still talk. Good beer selection. Didn't eat but the servings looked huge.
S. J. S.
Meh. Entree was nice (bread with dukkah); steak was overpriced but good; service was weird. I know they're busy but there's a minimum expectation that just isn't consistently met here when you dine.
TLDR: great for a beer but don't waste your time dining.
J.
Great beer, great food, great atmosphere. What more could you want?
R. S.
Great service, friendly staff, great food and decor even with covid our group of 6 had a fun evening!
A. O.
Not a bad place to go for a drink and a bite to eat. The venue is massive with a few different dining options (restaurant type, bar dining, etc) the pull pork sliders are recommended
K. C.
Our server was fantastic. Packaged up leftover steak for my cat. Oh and the Wagyu Burger was pretty special too!
B. G.
Christina was a fantastic waiter and had great customer service all round! She was very informative and knew about all of the dishes very well! She had fantastic recommendations and we loved having her as our waiter!
J. D.
Delicious chai latte was had, fantastic and friendly service.
There's not a great deal of seating on the cafe side and most of the seating is in the sun. The presentation of the food is lovely, and the prices weren't insulting.
A. D.
Good beer and amazing atmosphere. Weird acoustics. And I sound like an old person but live music was a touch too loud. I like to hear conversations, that's why we go out to a place like this after all.
S.
Nice restaurant with friendly staff, but a bit oblivious. Never ask for a medium stake. If you want it medium, medium-rare is your best bet. The pizza is amazingly delicious!
N. G.
Great food, beer and service. They were very accommodating and made our meals quicker because we were seeing a show. Best to book in advance.
S. O.
If you are into the James Squire range then no other place to go. Menu is varied and has some interesting combinations based on the beer range. Food can be pricey but not unusual for the area. Variety of different "spaces" as well - Bar, restaurants and cafe.
T. M.
Four Wives Pilsener was tasty and served in a nice tall schooner. The food however was a little less to be desired. Pulled Pork Roll felt as if it had been prepared much earlier than it was served to me. Chips are great though!
N. R.
Came for breakfast and was thoroughly impressed. Big portions and really flavoursome. My partner said the big breakfast was the best he's ever had! The pancakes were delicious too!

Booked Birthday celebration for 11 on 3/10/16. Great atmosphere, food and service. Carly and others looked after us all, totally professional, with grace & charm. We will return to this fun place.
W. W.
Loved great service.friendly staff. Worth the stop
K. S.
Good beer, selection of wines to cater for all tastes, quality food served in the bar and restaurant and the live music played is usually of a high standard. A great place to hang out with friends.
L. S.
The frenchman at the bar was amazing! I was able to try different beers before I choose the one I wanted.
The artist who wad there was awesome as well, great music
I.
The Bar area is great to enjoy some cold brews. It has high ceilings which makes it a generous space. The food is the restaurant is hearty and there is usually something of the spit.
S. S.
Absolutely beautiful atmosphere and wait staff. Our food was divine and cooked to perfection.
We had a lovely time, definitely my new favourite restaurant. 😊
D. P.
Good beer selection, food and service was good. Had dinner here before going to a show. Atmosphere was good. I would eat here again
M. Z.
Too noisy by far, but their chicken burger was pretty great
T. B.
Amazing food, good drinks and lots of good music.
Z. S.
Great bar. Meals were good. A tad small if anything. Not fantastic though when you're meant to guess that you have to request a kids menu from the bar staff.
J. K.
Wow. Just wanted quick lunch in aircon. Ordered the chicken salad and loved it. Will come back for that waiter and chicken salad next time in Brisbane.

What a great night out. Great beer and live groups. Food is good to. Went with work mates and freinds here and had a great time.
D. A.
Great place. Food mostly good. Wood fired seafood is to die for. Kids cheeseburger not so great. Couldn't get cranky with her when I wouldn't have eaten it.

Excellent service by Jasmine
Food was excellent, would highly recommend the arancini and slow cooked short rib, delious
M. F.
great service and perfect location, even as a vegetarian, I could find enough in the menu. Very very talented chefs in that kitchen. Thank you for sharing your food passion with us.
R. K.
Meghan on the food counter was fantastic... food came out super fast and Fay behind the bar was spot on.
P. S.
Great a la carte food from an extensive up- market pub menu , delivered in a timely and friendly manner. Seafood Chowder and Goat Parpedelle were simply scrumptious. Live music, good craft beers and good wines. Happy.
A. O.
Super crowded on a Friday arvo. Food came out quickly but some of what we ordered was dry and the was expensive. Except service though, great furnishings.
S. H.
Good atmosphere great. Singer really great Saturday night ....food...not so much. Baked camembert was not what they said it was. Was a mixture of other cheeses. 😭
G. M.
Great beers, fine dining or more pubgrub style depending what you want. Gets crowded
P. S.
Nestled in the South Bank precinct - the Charming Squire features great food, and an amazing beer selection centred around the James Squire branded ales. The staff here are amazing and the place is open from early breakfast to late. Some of our favourite entertainment is here, and this can also be a great place to have a function or an event.
A. N.
Staff very professional. Food was amazing. Definately worth a visit if your in town. However note !!! Their chicken wing entre states HOT ... what they mean is EXTREME HOT !!! Don't order this dish unless you love drinking tobasco sauce. ☆☆☆☆ 4 Stars.

Had such a gorgeous experience here at the charming squire, the waiter was very professional and had magnificent customer service, the atmosphere was comfortable and very enjoyable, the food was perfection. Honestly a wonderful restaurant, definitely coming again.
