Riley our waiter was lovely, he remembered 16 dishes which was amazing. I went with my vegetarian friend and we ordered a regular "Just feed me" and a vegetarian "Just feed me" which is 8 dishes each. My "Just feed me" featured a nice variety of food, and it was great fun to try new dishes, some of the vegetarian version wasn't really my friend's taste, but it offered a nice variety of dishes too - It was a reasonable price considering the high quality of the dishes.
The place caters really well to those with dietary requirements. They also have a pretty extensive drinks menu, the drinks we ordered were nice, however, the Lychee martini wasn't to my friend's taste. It was a very fresh and exciting atmosphere with fun music playing in the background, I will definitely come back when I can!
A. L.
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed this restaurant. We got the luxe menu. I didn't get to take a photo of everything, since I was too distracted by the food 😅 Everything was delicious and the staff were helpful and nice. The only thing I didn't like was the QR code menu.
V. B.
Casual dining for lunch or dinner. The food, staff and atmosphere was fantastic. We had the Luxe menu of 10 dishes. The Thyme of your Life cocktails was a favourite. Along with this menu, there are always specials offered for additional fun. Today fresh Sydney Rock Oysters. Last time we dinned finest fruity Sakè. So make it a feature in your food adventures.

Asian fusion at its best. Fantastic food and the vibe is pretty cool here. Love the deco with some neon and the music curator just nailed every song played tonight. Kudos to Mia who did a fantastic service for us tonight.
I’ll conclude stating it’s a must visit restaurant in Canberra 🤤

Overall a great experience.
The delux feed me menu is good value and the staff friendly and knowledgeable. Boa burgers excellent as is the sashimi.
There were a couple of things that left us feeling a bit flat: after long delays in bringing food and drinks, everything was brought together and then we were hurried out with the waiter mentioning three times ‘people are waiting’
C. N.
Booked for party of 4, opted for the Luxe menu. Overall the food was good... probably not as refined as I thought it would be. Really heavy flavours.. at times abit confusing for my liking e.g. korean beef tartare w/ hoisin kewpie and papaya salad was overly drenched with dressing which made it sickening by the end of it.
First and last dishes; Tuna tartare and the chocolate + miso caramel dessert were the highlight dishes for me.
Food came out really fast, almost too fast as we hadnt even finished off our previous dish and there was no space on our table to place the next dish down!
Service was super friendly and attentive, but the dining experience was let down as we were being rushed and "pushed out" to free up the table.
M. C.
Loved the lighting and the mood there! We went as a group of 8 and they said we were only allowed to order set menus for that group size. Their foods were like a korean/Japanese fusion type I think, really delicious! Loooooved the fish dish, dumplings and the eggplant, others were okay and some were meh.. I think we got way too full towards the end xD but even then that eggplant my goodness 👌👌 must get. Drinks were great! Music was good! 4.5 for me!
M. H.
Excellent, friendly service. Interesting range of beers - I tried the Hitachino Red Rice Ale which had a unique after-taste. We went with the Luxe menu at $70 a head. In hindsight, probably a bit too much for me as I felt a little bloated afterwards, but the food was excellent. The soft-shell crab bun felt like biting into a warm, soft pillow - divine.
C. G.
Hell yes to 5-star! This restaurant sooo surprised me. From the lightning fast service to the great selection of liquor to the mouth-watering - can’t-stop-eating food!
I never thought I’ll ever take a flight back to Canberra, but for this restaurant, I will!
Yummmmmm!

Spent a great evening with my husband at Akiba, a little gem in the heart of Canberra. Food, drinks, music and service were all excellent. We opted for the $55 banquet, every dish tasted amazing but the kimchi and oyster pancake was definitely the highlight. Thank you to Ayush the friendly bartender who served us delicious drinks and funny banter! We will definitely be back there next time we visit Canberra.
A. P.
This was such a lovely experience! We came in with my fiancé for a date night and got a lovely treatment from our server Phoebe. She was helpful, happy and so cheerful and kind she totally made our night! She also recommended the best sake. I love a friendly fun environment and we totally got that. The food was great. Try the pork buns if you haven’t and leave room for dessert.
D. W.
Another fabulous dinner at Akiba. We enjoy the theatre experience sitting at the bar. The atmosphere matches the vibrancy of the food and the service is always efficient, informed and friendly. Thanks Riley.
H. T. P.
Restaurant is really beautiful, food was perfectly prepared but the taste was not as I expected. We ordered a feed me menu for 55$ pp:
- First 4 meals were beautiful, king fish was great, pancake was good, dumpling was a bit salty to me, charsiu bao was perfect
- Last 4 meals were not good as I expected, rice was so so, eggplant was easy to get satiated, beef rib texture was perfectly cooked but taste was horrible to me :( no salty, and chinese brocolli my friend told me that it was bitter that she could not it
However, staff are friendly, asahi black beer taste was perfect. I will give the restaurant 3.5-4 stars. 😄 don’t have many pics but king fish was my favorite
M. A.
Amazing food and service. Tried the Luxe menu and it was fantastic! Good food and good beers and wine. Highly recommended if you want to try asian food with a different spin.
K. S.
I never write reviews, but I have to say I had the "feed me" banquet which was absolutely delicious. Favourite dish was the pork buns!! Great atmosphere and wait staff were very friendly and helpful (and knowledgeable regarding dietary requirements). In particular Phoebe was so lovely!
J. E.
Went here with some friends and we tried the "Luxe" feed me option. Gotta say the quality of these dishes were outstanding. Absolutely delicious, beautifully presented and a beautiful explosion of flavour with every mouthful. And the artistry was stunning! Will definitely be coming back for more!
J. M.
We had lunch here as a group of four. We were running late for our booking but it wasnt an issue. The food was fresh and delicious, service was friendly and we loved the vibe. The share plates were perfect for letting us try lots of things between us. We'll definitely be going again!
K.
I still can’t stop scamming when I look at those yummy photos!!! Thank you for the lovely night. The food were absolutely delicious. Yummy and creative Asian food. Great cocktails and wine lists. Beautiful environment and lots of lights for the instagramers. All staffs are top guns delivered the excellent customer experience. Thank you. That was definitely a five star. You gotta try if you ever come to Canberra, but book beforehand, they are popular 😍😍😍
N. T.
Feeling like Asian fusion? This place is a MUST!
The highlight was the Peaking Duck Dumplings. My husband isn’t into dumplings and claimed these are the BEST he has had in his life. The potatoes were amazing! YES it’s a potato but WOW. Overall an amazing experience. Great staff, nice outdoor vibes.
Thanks Lucas and all the other staff.
Will definitely come back on our next trip to Canberra.
J. L.
Had our fourth anniversary here, everything was so great!
T. C.
Came into dinner tonight expecting an average Saturday night, but what we received was so much more. The food was absolutely delicious, the atmosphere, amazing!!!! Riley, our waiter, catered to all our needs and made us feel so welcomed and appreciated during our time there.
Would highly recommend coming in for dinner and experiencing Akiba for yourself.
You won’t be disappointed!!!
(Peking duck dumplings are hands down the best thing on the menu!!!)
J. L. W.
We were recommended this place and it did not disappoint. We only stopped in for a quick bite and a drink, but the service was fabulous and the wait staff were accommodating given we didn't have a booking and it was peak timing. The soft shell crab buns were amazing and the Yuzu cocktail was fabulous. We will be back next time we are in Canberra.
L. G.
The staff were really friendly and efficient but this was probably not the right choice for a quiet dinner for two. More suited to drinks and some light snacks as dinner was expensive and the main course options were quite heavy. The dumplings were nice but the stir fried mushrooms and the fried rice were not very good.
S. D.
Akiba delivers consistently delicious food and drinks (love their bao and eggplant). The atmosphere is really fun. The bookings do feel rushed however and service to run drinks out can be a bit slow compared to food.
Overall must try in Canberra.
M. A.
Great food. Great ambience. Must try the "Agadashi Fried Tofu", the best tofu dish in town.
c. s.
Just tried feed me tasting menu. Extra order or papaya salad and tuna Tata.
Service 5 of 5
Feed me: took so long time to be served.
Recommend:
⭐️Tuna Tata !! So amazing. Wasabi avocado sauce makes spicy, sourness from vinegar jelly, lotus crisps gives crunchiness!!
⭐️King fish: surprised me! Love the combination of coconut milk and herbs.
Not recommend: papaya salad not so fresh. Not spicy and salty.
e.
Food here are nice, and service is good. Staffs are friendly and helpful.
K. L.
This has to be my new favourite restaurant on the planet, absolutely loved everything about it! From the softshell crab buns to the passionfruit and lychee cocktails, I can't recommend this place highly enough. Shout out to Daniel for his outstanding service, and all the chefs for the magnificent flavour bombs!! You simply must try it whether you're visiting or living in Canberra!
S. F.
We went to Akiba on Friday night and it was fabulous. Food was excellent as always, staff were so helpful (Alix went over and above being helpful and tallied our bill for us individually) and we even sat near ABC morning tv royalty Michael Roland which was a bonus! Can’t go wrong with a night out at Akiba.
E. T.
Solid 4. The service is alright. Price is ok. The highlight of the night is the miso eggplant which is excellent. The soft shell crab bao is to my liking. The pork belly bun is a good one. The fried rice was just ok and could use a bit more flavour. Not your typical fried rice. The Kobe beef was tasty and cooked perfectly. The chicken was a disappointment though because its not crunchy as I expected. Overall, it's good.
Z. N.
I've been to Akiba for birthdays, work dinners, anniversaries etc, and every single time the food has been beyond amazing and the service was outstanding! I can't recommend this place enough. Keep up the great work 👌
A. P.
Walked past Akiba looking for a lunch spot and glad we did. Had the just feed me banquet which had plenty of delicious food. Special thanks to Ruby for taking such good care of us. Will be back for sure
N. S.
Accidentally stumbled across Akiba whilst wandering around. Very clean and tidy, with very friendly staff. We ate alot of things here, whilst everything was pretty delicious, very special shout outs to; Kingfish with coconut namjim and coriander, Peking Duck Dumplings, and the Kobe Beef Skirt. Next time I am in Canberra, I will definitely visit Akiba again.
D. C.
Some food was good but small on the plate. Felt very close to everyone like we were all smashed into a room. Tables and chairs were high and for some of the girls in dresses hard to sit on. Service was okay, they where going as fast as they could with the little staff they had on a Saturday night.
M. C.
Delicious food, a great place for groups. We had the 'Feed me' banquet menu, and it was amazing value and such a great range of dishes. I am GF, but all my alternative dishes were incredible - I didn't feel like I was missing out at all. Staff were friendly and efficient.
V. V.
The food was good and reasonably priced for the set menu. We ordered sake that went well with the food too. Loved the ambience. Food hygiene to be improved.
A. B.
What an absolutely gorgeous experience it was to go to akiba. It was my first time and as someone with lots of allergy needs I was trepidatious and ready to not be able to eat (something that has happened in other places). And was blown away - lukas was our server and he was beyond delightful. He made me feel welcome, that my needs were not only manageable but made extra care to introduce each dish as "onion, garlic and gluten free" which was such a relief- normally I'd double check each time and feel burdensome. He and the kitchen staff made every dish safe, so I could partake in a shared platter- totally unheard of. And each dish was AMAZING!! He was warm, friendly and a joy to talk to. I'll not only be returning, but I'll delight just to see that lovely server again! What an incredible staff- and kitchen! To be able to provide such a wonderful experience to someone who never gets to partake at that level without anxiety. Lukas, I hope you get this back to you, and I hope whatever endeavor you go into treats you as well as you treated us!
F. K. S.
Wonderful trendy setting and delicious food. We tried the Share Plates of Beef Short Ribs and Japanese Fried Chicken where were beautifully presented and tasted so good! Reasonable prices and generous portion.
Totally enjoyed our dining experience here and will definitely return to try more whenever we are in Canberra.
Reservation recommended to avoid disappointment.
R. K.
Amazing food, drinks and experience. The kingfish and eggplant were incredible, and our waiter Riley really topped it off. He made me feel dangerous but also safe.
K. B.
The Feed Me menu is amazing and they catered to the vegan and the coeliac in the group. Our waiter Riley was friendly and attentive. Really great experience!
K. S.
Overall good to great food, in particular the sashimi dishes and beef were sensational. Big sake list and food drinks list however with 90 minute sittings due to covid wouldn't recommend the luxe feed me menu as we did.
This option has probably too many dishes for the timeslot and it became a somewhat rushed experience. This was not assisted by the fact it took 20+ mins for drinks and the first food dish to come out, and when the food came out each dish was in quick succession, effectively leaving you with an hour to eat 8 dishes.
Pricing is reasonable for the offer, and service when present was good however these guys were obviously understaffed.
Last nit pick, the stools that you have to sit on inside aren't great; you sit very high yet the foot bar in them is also too high leaving your legs at a funny angle. Would recommend sitting outside or at the booth inside instead.
Despite the above I nonetheless would return next time and probably pick and choose my own dishes to better suit the time and ability for the staff to deliver dishes on time. Akiba is an Asian, urban chic restaurant/bar that has a lot to like otherwise.
C. G.
Beautiful interior and great service! They get very busy so glad we booked in advance. We had the feed me luxe. The cocktails were fantastic.
C. D.
Went for a late night dinner, stayed for the amazing service from Riley. So bubbly and friendly and clearly a very hard worker. Give this man a raise! Best waiter I’ve ever had!! Hope he sees this 👀👀
K. E.
Located on Bunda street in the heart of the capital, modern Asian bar/restaurant Akiba is not to be missed. If you're ordering al a carte, make sure to include some buns and dumplings in your order- they are delicious! Plenty of options to drink with a both cocktails and beers available on tap. Reasonably extensive range of wines and a solid catalogue of saki. A what really makes this place is the service. Helpful, welcoming staff complete the experience. Do yourself a favour and check it out.
S.
The food at Akiba tonight was off the charts! We loved the Kobe beef skirt and Tuna tartare (entree) the most. Lucas was our waiter and he made our experience perfect, thank you.
J. G.
Incredible! The place to go in Canberra. Food was amazing, we had the Luxe, several courses, each course was a journey of flavour and textures. Wow! Fantastic cocktails, thanks to amazing bar staff Ayush and Lara. Fabulous service. Great vibe, would highly recommend to anyone visiting Canberra.
X. R.
This place super pretty busy during dinner time, make sure you make a reservation before visiting. We sat outside and only one girl for serving whole area so have to wait 10-15 mins to be serviced. Lucky the food doesn’t take long, we had dumplings are quite nice but Barramundi just ok.
H.
Food was amazing no matter what you ordered, vibes and aesthetic were perfect, and staff where especially nice and understanding, especially our server for the night, Riley. 10/10 would recommend for dinner during a night out
C. B.
Decided to host our first work Christmas party here this year and we were not disappointed. The staff were very helpful in deciding on what to order not only with the food but also the cocktails. Decided on the Feed Me option and couldn’t believe the amazing amount of food we received. Great selection of cocktails and beer on offer.
M. G.
Great food and wine. Ordered the ‘feed me’ which was tasty and plentiful. I can see why this place is so popular, we’ll be back.
L. A. S.
Ben was fantastic!!!! He even took great photos for us. Thanks buddy 🤙🏼🙏🏼🥰 from Li-Fen, Mel & Ang xoxo
A. S.
Loved it. We recommend trying the "feed me" option giving you a taste of 8 different dishes. Very friendly staff. Comfortable atmosphere. More than enough variety of drinks. Would eat here again when in Canberra.
A. B.
It’s a nice place with great choices of cocktails and drinks. It’s tricky to get a table sometimes without a booking prior because they’re busy at various times. I also got a meal taken off the bill at the end because it was too spicy for me.
S.
All time FAVE Japanese fusion restaurant in AUS. The Duck Dumplings are life changing, as is the Kingfish Sashimi. The Beef was super tender and the edamame - there’s enough in the one serve to feed a small family! Lovely staff and great range of Sake. Must visit when in CBR!
H. S. J.
Try the shared meals, they're all delicious! The "feed me" is good too (and great value!) but I prefer the selection from the shared menu personally. The cocktails are pretty amazing too. My favourite dishes are the teryiaki beef, octopus salad thing and the Japanese cheese chicken, holy moly ⚘ My fav drink is the passionionfruit mojito but honestly every drink I've had there is excellent. Ask to sit outside when the weather is warm for a wonderful, relaxing treat 🥂
C. G.
Riley was fabulous. The food he recommended was next level. We were genuinely appreciative of his assistance and advice and lovely nature.
J. H.
This is one of my favourite places to eat in Canberra. The staff is always very accommodating and friendly. The food is amazing, you could order anything on the menu and you won't be disappointed. Definitely recommend to anyone.
J. H.
We got the $66 luxe banquet and wow.. I was so impressed with this restaurant! Everything was absolutely delicious and I’m feeling hungry just writing about it now. Some highlights include:
1. Kingfish sashimi - the dressing was so delicious and fresh - a great starter!
2. Eggplant - it looks strange but it is so so good!
3. Steak - the seasoning of the meat mixed with the medium rare tender steak - amazing!
4. Barramundi - it was so juicy and tender once you bite into it!
E. D.
Our indecision with the menu was dealt with masterfully by expert bartender Ayush, and we ended up having a lovely meal. 10/10 would recommend the whiskey sours from this joint.
T.
Busy and fun restaurant with creative cocktails and interesting fusion dishes. Good place to catch up with friends or to have a fun date. Baos were good. Kingfish exceeded expectations and I like the new matcha cocktail
l. m.
I had no idea Riley rhymes with Jesus!
Not just a friendly face but a wonderful waiter, his carefully tailored suggestions took our tastebuds on a vacation from lake burley griffin to Japan.
All jokes aside, we had a wonderful dinner with help from Riley and also the other staff members who were warm and welcoming and really added to our stay. Akiba is a must visit when you’re in Canberra.
K. W.
Akiba in Canberra is an absolute must for anyone who wants great food and great service in a restaurant that also has a fantastic atmosphere. Terry, the bartender on my visit, was busy keeping things running, making drinks, training staff, and still found time to chat with me about the extensive sake list and the huge range of Japanese whisky, both of which I haven’t seen done better since I was living in Japan. And, on top of this, the tuna tartare was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. And the agedashi tofu was delicious, too. I’m so glad I took the time to check them out. It was well worth it. And, I will be back with friends in tow next time I’m in Canberra. Can’t recommend this place enough!
T. B.
Ayush provides the most exceptional service to me and my partner every single time we visit. It’s one of our favourite places - 40% because of the food and 60% because of Ayush. An absolute stranger to us before we started coming here. The reason I didn’t split it evenly is because I believe a great venue starts with great people. We look forward to his upbeat nature and new cocktail creations every time. We love you Ayush ❤️
o.
Akiba had great food and relaxed atmosphere. Had the "just feed me" option, which is 8 items on the menu for 49 dollars and was well worth it and all items served were delicious.
Also our waitress Dorothy accidentally mixed up one of our items but made up for it by providing an extra item free of charge. So the service was top notch.
Overall had a great time and would highly recommend.
B. O.
Delicious food, fancy cocktails and lovely staff. Make sure you book ahead and bring your most adventurous taste buds.
T. T.
My partner and I celebrated the Lunar New Year at Akiba, and were both delighted by the food and the service. We highly recommend the kingfish sashimi and Kobe beef skirt, and the waiter Mugi!
T. H.
AKIBA serves interesting dish that picks up all the nice things from many different Asian cuisines, including Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Thai and Malaysian, then recreates them into new flavours.
We visited on a sunny Wednesday lunchtime without booking and were able to get a table for two on their outdoor area. It was lovely, airy place to sip on cocktail.
Their Japanese fried chicken share plate was a lot larger than we thought for the price. Chicken was only lightly fried so it wasn’t crunchy style we expected, but still tasted great with parmesan and sauces provided.
Baos were decent too. We didn’t think kimchi went super well with pulled beef - a bit too strange for our liking - but soft shell crab one was flawless.
We also tried their curry chicken dumpling on special. Thick Malaysian style curry went so well with thin steam dumpling.
B.
Not often a fan of anything "fusion" but the food here was sensational. Broad variety. Great heated outdoor area. Sensational service. Awesome wine selection and a fully stocked bar as well. It is great for a large family occasion and would be great for date as well. Located right in Canberra's cultural hub too. Hard to fault, arguably Canberra's best Asian
S. L.
Food was average except for the buns. The fried chicken was the most significant letdown. The cocktails and sake were delicious. Our waiter was super helpful and attentive.
P. L.
This place ticks all the boxes for me, a well designed restaurant with a good atmosphere.
The service was excellent, attentive without being too much and all the staff were all very friendly.
The food was amazing, we tried about six dishes and loved them all.
I have walked past this place a lot when I have visited Canberra previously but will probably never walk past again!
10/10 keep up the good work!
E. F.
Whenever I travel from Sydney to Canberra - I am always for a lookout for good food. Came across Aikba and can say was great hospitality by all staff. Delicious servings and fast servings for the food to come out. Would visit again 👌
k. w.
We had the pleasure of having Riley as our table server he was amazing as a waitress we were very satisfied by his quick response to fit us in and the the amazing food couldn’t fault akiba at all was a lovely night out !!! 😁
T. A.
Quentin is amazing❤️he offered us five dishes from their menu with such a passion that cannot easily be found anywhere else and he was absolutely right about his brilliant suggestions. We enjoyed every single dish. We will definitely go back.
V. T.
Original dishes, interesting combination of flavours, yet some dishes were a miss.
The salt & pepper squid had a poached egg to mix it with, and it was a great combination. But the Japanese fried chicken was lying over sauteed onions, which affected the crispness of the fried chicken. The salmon ceviche had a great look, and the salmon was beautifully marinated. I ended up eating it without the seaweed and the horseradish, as it was very nice just like that.
Cool atmosphere, amazing decoration, very aligned with the menu.
B. C.
Delicious food! The crispy pork bao and short rib definite highlights. Great service, friendly and knowledgeable. Will be back!
B. A.
Food: incredibly delicious. My favourite was the Japanese fried chicken and chicken and prawn dumplings. It’s the sauce that makes these dishes, but they’re still perfectly combined with the meat. It’s really good food but pretty expensive. Expected for Canberra and fusion food. All the food you see was for $111.
Service: always a long wait, but they gave us free drink vouchers for Kokomo’s so we didn’t really feel the wait. All the servers and hostesses here are very friendly and attentive.
Setting: trendy casual, don’t come in shorts and thongs, dress a bit nice. Outdoor seating has enough heat that you don’t feel the cold. Inside is nice, but pretty noisy especially because of how crowded it is.
V. M.
We were recommended here and it was good.. We only stopped in for a quick bite and a drink, but the service was fabulous and the staff were accommodating we will be back next time we are in Canberra. We were recommended this place and it did not disappoint.
I.
I was served by Lucas tonight and was extremely happy with the service that he provided. Not only was he able to assist with me getting the right drinks for both my friend and myself. The food that he recommended was delightful. By the way, I loved the Mango cocktail :D. Hope to see you again next time I return here. Its nice to see people so friendly as yourself in hard times like this. Well done.
E. Y.
Service is below average. During the whole meal time, one staff delivered wrong dish to us, and the other staff was placing coming dish direct on the finished empty dish (this was totally unacceptable & unbelievable...) on our table (refers to the eggplant photo, it was placed direct above the empty dish). Food is average good and the bar looks cool. It will be ideal if you are taking non-Asian guests here. I totally agree that their food & drinks are over prices according to the quantity & quality (I think around 20%~30%)
T. V. (.
Excellent food, and good value for money as well. They serve contemporary Japanese fusion. I would certainly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Yours truly @fooderarri
J. R.
Sooo good!! The service was excellent, the food arrived super quickly and it was an amazing combination of flavours and textures. My favourite was clearly the king fish with coconut but honestly it was all extremely tasty.
T. N. T.
Bustling Japanese fusion restaurant at the Canberra's centre. Good vibe, great service, delicious food! Highly recommended!
Q. L. (.
I would highly recommend the soft shell crab bun, very tasteful and great for start-up. The $20 oyster set are not worth it, pricey and taste is not very good. The kobe beef skirt and the salt & sichuan pepper squid are really nice. You could also order a king prawn fried rice if the food potion is not enough. Five of us had 6 dishes, and costs about $180 without any drinks.
R. C.
Great food and ambience. Waitress Mia was exceptional proving intuitive service which was not intrusive. Tuna and kingfish sashimi were amazing as was the agedashi tofu. Highly recommended but make sure to book
M. F.
My partner and I had the pleasure of visiting Akiba for the first time tonight. After hearing raving reviews from fellow vegans about the extensive vegan menu and banquet, I just had to give it a shot! My boyfriend, who is actually and avid meat lover, enjoyed every bit of the flavoursome adventure. Our host, Chase, was an absolute pleasure, tailoring our banquet to the most amazing vegan dishes on and off the menu. I, as a long time vegan, can say, this is one of Canberra's best adaptable restaurants around. In fact, I would say it is in the top 3. Perfect for a beautiful cocktail close to the city, and its sister cocktail venue, Kokomos. This restaurant is ideal for anyone needing a classy night away from the kids, or a group of friends looking to have dinner and drinks in a functional, friendly environment. Thank you for a fabulous evening Chase!
F. B.
Great Asian fusion restaurant. Top notch service, our waiter Riley - outstanding. Memories of being back in Japan were stirred. Wine list not stupidly priced like most Canberra restaurants. Rest rooms modern and clean. Highly recommended.
H.
Amazing!!! Incredible fusion Asian food, all was fresh and absolutely delicious. Very lively and upbeat environment. This place is extremely popular, definitely book a table in advance if planning to go in on a busy day!
M. H.
This is now my favourite restuarant in Canberra. The food was delicious, staying true to its heritage but with a twist. Awesome frinks lists with a purported largest sake list in Australia! The atmosphere was casual and fun with a steady dose of poppy beats to accompany your meals. Highly recommend this place for a great night out especially if you have a preference towards Japanese flavours.
C. L.
Great place and location.
Was traveling through Canberra and was recommended to try this place out.
Made a reservation and was seated at the bar. There are tables available, but the bar was a really cool spot. You would order from the bartenders, and admire all the bottles in front of you. Did enjoy talking about all the bottles of different alcohol.
Menu selection is pretty good! Ordered a few things to share. We were between ordering the pre-selected sets or ordering straight off the menu, I do like places that tell you what to expect out of set menus, and that extra menu was provided.
Food was pretty good! I really liked the sashimi and beef. Kobe beef skirt with teriyaki was so tender! I really enjoyed the kingfish with the dressing over it.
Soup dumplings were alright, ours seemed a little dry, there wasn’t any soup in any of our dumplings. The duck was not too bad, a little sweet, wished it was served with chilli oil or vinegar, that would have cut the sweetness a little, and the laksa dumplings were filled with mushrooms, something I wasn’t expecting, and would have liked some soya sauce with it. Overall, we did prefer the duck over the laksa soup dumplings.
Dessert, so pretty! And really nice! It’s a mirror glaze over a miso caramel ice cream dome with surprise crunchy cookie bits which are fantastic.
This is a great date night spot, to share food and talk, even for quick drinks, snacks and catch up. Food service was amazing! Food arrived one after another, and there was no lag time in between.

Delicious Asian fusion food. The waiter was quite attentive, and the food served quite quickly.
We didn't have a booking but the front-of-restaurant staff member took our phone number and sent us an SMS once a table was available.
The atmosphere is quite fun, if perhaps a little loud with the music. The restaurant is well-designed though, so the noise doesn't reverberate off the walls and ceiling. This means you can still hold a conversation, unlike in some other Canberra restaurants.
D. B.
Akiba is a lovely asian-fusion restaurant/bar. Good service, the Feed Me banquets are great value and they cater for every dietary requirement. Food is innovative, fresh and delicious - the kingfish sushimi is sensational. Always busy so make sure to book.
X. T. T.
Quite a funky little place in Canberra. Food is pretty tasty. We had the feed me menu which filled us up well. The kingfish sashimi ans buns were highlights. They had a decent cocktail menu too. I think the outdoor space is dog friendly as a very cute shiba inu was sitting with his parents. I’d go again.
E. K.
Asian tapas in the heart of Canberra. Food comes out pretty quickly. Andy who serve us was excellent and funny. Most of the food were average. The papaya salad was not nice at all, bitter and not that refreshing.
They hv indoor and outdoor seating in which both are quite warm.
Food - 6
Service - 9
Vibe - 6
Price - $$$

The food speaks for itself. Perfect place for a fun little arvo eat out. Wonderful service and drinks are terrific. Highly recommend Akiba when in Canberra
S. W.
Really tasty food and cocktails. Great friendly service too. Would certainly recommend to anyone travelling to Canberra.
M. Y.
Went for dinner had the potato and carrot side.. but they are too good for sides. Also got the pancake a great sweet dish so great ate all but one before I took a photo. and the Japanese fried chicken. All was great service was fast. And like the vibe and busy period. Got a local lychee cider a good drink too.
B. J.
We dined the evening away with the Luxé Feed Me package and we were blown away by both quality and quantity of the fare. The tastes were superb. Our host Hugo looked after us every step of the way. Thanks Hugo and Akiba! We'll be back soon.
J. M. Y. L.
Great food, most dishes are slightly over seasoned which is fine if you have a couple of beer and plakn rice to go with it .....
Would be good to design a kids meal but I'm sure they don't intend to become a family restaurant ...
M. B.
Popped in for a late lunch. The selection is really great and also unusual and the staff lovely. They do a “Go all out” and a “Just Feed me” which gives a selection of 8 of their favourite dishes...I will probably return.
Update: returned for their Just Feed Me menu. One word....delicious 😊
N. K.
Strongly recommended.
Awesome food here.
Tender chicken and beef. The fried rice was also great.
Cost around 15 - 35 per dish.
W. S.
We had a wonderful evening for a group of 16. Most of us has the Luxe menu and some had the feedme menu. But overall comment was DELICIOUS!
Fusion food at its best and the surprises kept coming.
My wife hated egg plant but for one she finished the entire egg plant dish tonight!
Also we wanted to recommend the service we received from Monique. She was so friendly and singlehandedly looked after us.
We came from Sydney and truely admits that Sydney don't have anything similar. We will definitely be back!
M.
Love this venue! We received the best service from Ayush. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Canberra.
E. S.
Went here for my birthday, the price of the food, ambiance, quality and the service was without fault. Our waiter was particularly helpful as well.
H. C.
Akiba is family friendly, we came here with our baby and another family. Our waitress was nice and explained the menu well. With many babies on the table, we had no time to think about the dishes to order, so we got the 'Just feed me', which was a collection of their 8 signature dishes to share. There was king fish sashimi, miso dengaku eggplant, king prawn fried rice, pork belly bun and a couple of others. You might enjoy it more if your 18-month baby doesn't ask for attention every 2 mins.
n. l.
Food was amazing. Friendly staff and great service. Looking forward to trying more options from the menu.
R. G.
Fantastic experience at Akiba. Food was phenomenal and the service was unparalleled - our waiter, Riley, deserves a huge shoutout!
W. Y.
Blown away by the service and the food. We had the degustation menu and they were superb. They staff were very attentive. Highly recommended!
E. S.
Was an overall great experience. Amazing customer service from Mia and the rest of the staff, super friendly and made us feel welcome. Their knowledge of the food on the menu was also superb, and the food was some of the best I've had in a long time. Definitely will be back
T. W.
Has to be the busiest restaurant in Canberra. Food was really delicious, and fair priced. We opted for the 'feed me' 8 plate option. Great way to taste a variety of dishes. The food is more fusion with influence of Japanese. Lots of chilli in most dishes. The pork bao buns are next level! Will come back!
A. D.
Great food, nice japanese fusion bar. Extending list of sake. The kobe beef and buns are to die for. The portion is quite small vs the price. Always have a queue but staff accommodate guests very quickly
L. S.
Amazing, Amazing, Amazing !. Great Food Great Atmosphere. Leeta and Alex were not only Gorgeous provided Impeccable service as did ALL on rhe floor. Will be back again.
& again,
& again,
.......😊
S. K.
Great experience, wonderful service. Delicious food and good ambience. Portion is big and prices are reasonable. Always crowded, reserve your table before going.
T. P.
Table 20: Mia served our table, her service and food is excellent
T. G.
Kings Ayush and Amret ! Came in w my fiancé , recommendations by these two blew us away. Food amazing also. Coming again
R. B.
The place is fantastic, great friendly service. We went for the Luxe Set menu and it did not disappoint. The food was such an eclectic mix. Will 100% be back!
H. J.
Heard this was the place to be; it is good but I expected something better. Staff was really nice. When we were ordering (4 people) and the second person started their order, the food came already to the table from the first person which was within a minute so a bit strange but okay, we did not complain. The rest followed pretty quickly so you don't have to wait long for your food which is good. I had the octopus, edamame, smokey potatoe, Chinese broccoli and edamame. All taste good but some of them a bit sour. The rest really liked the chicken dish. So in the end I liked it but room for improvement and a bit too overpriced. Have to say they are good with allergies/vegetarian menu's and stuff
A. S.
Wonderful place for dinner! Fantastic atmosphere, delicious food and had wonderful service from Lucas and Alex!
J. W.
Great food, great service. Riley was amazing looking after us! Can’t wait to go back.
T. N.
Great food. Make sure you have Ben serve you. Fantastic service.
A. V.
Some of the best food I've had lately! Tasty, fresh and reasonably priced. Went in for our wedding anniversary lunch so I relied entirely on the waiter recommendations and he sure did deliver.
C. C.
Insanely good experience, had the Feed Me menu sitting at the bar. Shout out to the fellas Ayush and Amrit for treating us, will be back
T. M.
Ayush is an amazing Bartender with an incredible vibe, all I ask is for everyone to pls come to AKIBA if you want to have a good night with people who will actually look after you
J. M.
Tasty food and a very creative cocktail list here. The Bao are fluffy and fresh and always super tasty. Decor is light and airy but has a certain charm to it
J. F.
The food was amazing and service even better. Riley was amazing and made the night an experience to remember. #topright
B. G.
Superb. We booked for Friday night, and upon entering the staff were friendly and attentive. Got to sit in front of the Raw Bar prep area which was a cool thing to see the chef putting together the plates of Kingfish sashimi and Tuna Tartare!
We absolutely devoured the Akiba Feed Me set menu, great choices and saved some difficulties in choosing from the full menu - the issue being actually having to make a choice from everything on the menu which was AWESOME!
Saké, Beer and Wine lists all on point too: special mention to the Kyoto Matcha IPA beer which whilst expensive, was certainly a treat. And their in house Yuzushu Saké.
We will come back whenever we are in Canberra!
B.
Pulled pork bun was not good. Very hard to chew.
Chicken pork bun was ok.
We went to Canberra for a weekend and booked this restaurant on Sunday lunch and I saw online lunch menu they do ramen. We wanted ramen so much but when we arrived we didn’t see ramen on the actual menu. So we asked the waiter and he said they only do special yum cha menu on the weekend. Ramen is only for weekdays. It was bothering to leave so we just order few dishes from the menu. After our lunch, same waiter came to us and asked us how was everything? He’s sorry that we couldn’t have ramen for our lunch. And I said it again that we changed our booking to lunch time because I saw their online lunch menu. And he goes, “oh I’m really sorry. But if you guys want, you can come back in the afternoon we do happy hour ramen”
I mean, seriously? You don’t do lunch time but do afternoon happy hour and you knew that we came all the way from other state just for the weekend. You waited until we finish our lunch which was not what we wanted to have and tell us to came back again for what we desperately wanted in the beginning.
Not very good customer service at all
J. D.
Such a fantastic night. Akiba is truely the best Asian fusion in the city. We were delighted with not only the food but the service. Sean was most helpful in assisting us with our table, and then the lovely Alex helped with our ordering. An amazing night was had in the best venue in in Canberra
S. H. (.
Amazing food! Went here for my birthday and had such a lovely time. The staff are super friendly and helpful. The food is beautiful. I definitely recommend this place and will be back to try more from the menu :)
A.
Fantastic food. Superb customer service from Mia. She was very helpful and accommodating, and ensured our group really enjoyed itself.
J. N.
Ordered the luxe banquet. Right amount of food and top quality throughout. Service was consistent and food came out very fast
J. H.
We had a great night there, the food was really nice and we had trouble finishing our two generous portions. The staff are very attentive and fun.
V. A.
Great food at reasonable prices. Great selection of dishes to share. Cocktails were really nice. Great atmosphere with attentive service.
C. M.
The food was good, and definitely filling. Service was average, as food came out really fast. Also, lady behind the bar came across as a little aloof and wasn’t quite helpful with recommendations. It was quite busy so make sure you make a booking!
D. A.
I've always liked Akiba for the simplicity of the menu which belies their creativity in yumminess. Their bun dishes are pretty good but my favey is the fried chicken dish, awesome flavour, taste and portion size for a hungry person. The cocktails are nice but a bit pricey. Do you do happy hours Akiba?? Oh yeah, the staff is brilliant and magicians in accommodating you on a busy night.
J. W.
Didn’t have a booking so was seated at the bar. Just as good as we had the opportunity to talk to staff working at the raw food bar. Recommend the Kobe steak.
N.
Love the entrees the soft shell crab bao, the dumplings, fish dish were all amazing. The mains that included eggplant and fried rice and greens were also delish. The mushrooms with crispy rice was also nice but a bit too salty for me. Would definitely come again and get the feed me option. It was really great value for 5 things to try!
L. D.
A wonderful experience for all! The staff were so accommodating and the drinks selection was amazing. The ambience was wonderful and a special thanks to Jack for the beef tartare. It was so fascinating to watch, even my wife tried some!!! Would definitely recommend akiba.
M. S. (.
Good
-Fantastic location.
-Friendly staff.
-Japaness fusion food.
-Inside & outside seats.
-Better for drinking.
Bad
-Bit expensive.
-Small portion.
-Fusion.....but they are using long grain rice for fried rice. Better use medium grain rice. Korea & Japan use only medium grain rice and quality of rice is the most important thing.
C. K.
Great food, great service. We thought the set menu would be too much food for our appetites so asked our waiter to choose for us - perfect choices, including a couple of half portions to allow us to taste more variety. All delicious. A definite stop for our next visit to Canberra.
A. K.
Wow, could not fault this place. Service, quality and taste. I'm not a big Asian food eater, and I hands down had the best feed today. We're from Sydney and Akiba was recommended. Absolutely get a booking at this place, you will not be disappointed.
J. C.
Cute restaurant with friendly staff. Indoor and outdoor seating available. Had the barbecue pork ramen with pickled mushroom and onsen egg. Lovely food presentation, might have made me overly excited to try it. Wasn’t too bad but not as good as I expected. Overall still an enjoyable experience for a reasonable price.
J. W.
Unbelievably good food. The Dengaku Aubergine is a personal favourite, but whatever you order, you won't be disappointed!
S. C.
Awesome food and drinks. The food is tasty and interesting. The decor is beautifully busy with a strong hint of thoughtful sophistication. The menu has good coverage for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. The menu is Asian inspired. The deserts too are very nice and a bit unusual.
M. L.
Brilliant setup and incredibly well run restaurant. We went for a group dinner and the only points i could take off them were because of the wait to get a table. Service was quick and professional. Food was top notch and the place was pumping. We will be back again for sure.
S. L.
Eggplant and fried rice are so delicious, and thanks for Eddy, she is a positive and friendly waitess. We really enjoyed, can't wait to be here again.
C. L.
Good friendly service and the food was tasty enough to meet Melbourne's expectations. However, compared to Melbourne, it was overpriced by 25-30%. This is understandable as there's a lot less competition in Canberra.
King prawn fried rice: good portion size, flavoursome, satisfying. $21
Japanese fried chicken with Parmesan, siracha & mayo: not quite enough crunch, most of the cheese was completely unmelted (even where direct contact with the chicken) and the caramelised onions were lacklustre. $18
D.
Amazing food (octopus with potato and black garlic was our favourite), but also coeliac friendly (has a number of dietary menus).
S. N.
Tried everything on the menu but I have to say the wagyu and the king prawn chili rice is my favourite!
M. N.
Food is amazing, the chicken and prawn dumplings are incredible. Staff are all so friendly. Lucy was our waitress for the night and she was amazing, answered all our questions regarding food and drinks, she really did have service with a smile. Would definitely come back!
V. B.
Food was incredible, and the staff (Ruby) was exceptionally friendly and an amazing hostess
R. B.
The food here was incredible and the staff were very friendly. The pork buns were delicious and the mains were filling and amazing!
My only criticisms would be the stool seating which didn't have any back support wasn't very comfortable and we had to wait a long time for our main meals though I understand it was a busy Saturday night.
Would recommend this to anyone for the food and will come again.
Q. H.
Ayush was an absolute joy to be around, really polite and calm even with a constant rush on drink 👍 will be back often !
E. H.
Had dinner last night and was it was amazing. We had the vegan feed me option and the food was great. The beat part of the evening though was the bar staff especially Dan who made our night was not just good but super fun! Thanks Dan for your dessert (vegan friendly) shot! You’re a legend! (And no, I had never met Dan prior to this evening in case you’re wondering 😄).
B. T. P.
Had a great experience dining at Akiba - the menu was exciting, the space had a funky atmosphere, and the service was friendly. We went on a sunday night, which meant if you bought a drink, you could get the left over lunch time yumcha dumplings for $1 each. We got the chicken yuzu deep fried dumpling. It was creative and delicious. Our favourite dish of the night was the miso lemon sole which had my tastebuds singing - miso, lemon butter, sweet pickled green chilli and shimeji, salty fried capers. It was genius. The shirt rib was quite fatty, but the flavours and meat were very tasty. The spicy and gingery salmon firecaker was our next favourite, followed by peking duck soup dumpling. We finished the night off by tucking into the impressive Japanese whiskey collection. If I lived in Canberra, this would be my weekly hotspot. Highly recommended!
W. S.
We dine as a 12 persons group and we were on the 'Feed me' banquet menu, which is $49 per head exclude any drink. Base on the amount of food we get and the quality of it, the price was not too bad. In terms of flavor, some dishes works well and some are pretty average. Most people at our table agrees that drinks are overpriced. It was a fairly busy night, the place was packed and busy. We got an outdoor long table, but it was not long enough that we have to squeeze fairly tight together. Our friends who seats at the end of the table can only fit half of their bum on the bench. The waiter who attends our table seems fairly grumpy until one of our friend start chitchat with him at the end of the night. They had a DJ playing the music for outdoor, but he was not great.
N. D.
Excellent! The eggplant was delicious, as well as the short ribs. Everything was delicious and the vibe is fun and young.
Would highly recommend for group outings, share plates etc.
D.
Akiba has been a great deal of the buzz in and around the regeneration of the Canberra CBD. The important thing to remember is that this isn't a multicultural city by default, and with such a solid range of options on the menu, its a hard place to beat for a relaxed asian fusion lunch or late night showdown.
A.
Overall good experience.
Most dishes were a hit, while some were a miss. The service was the same.
I think a more professional approach to the menu and the staff could definitely elevate the experience.
N. H.
King Fish is a must have.
Dumplings are good.
Ribs were nice with rice.
Food is more on the salty side.
Good drinks selection
Around $50 pp without drinks and $60 pp with drinks
B. J.
Tasty asian fusion with lots of GF options. Cocktails were average but atmosphere was great and they serve food until late at night. If you want to arrive at a reasonable dinner time on a weekend be sure to book in advance. Pictured is the papaya salad and the barramundi.
B. H.
Great atmosphere, extremely fast table service and friendly staff. Delicious foods at awesome prices.
D. M.
The Akiba Feed Me Menu tapas style eating consisted of 8 of their superb dishes and was exquisite! Ate and chatted over lunch at our own pace for hours. Staff were friendly, efficient but not overbearing.
Lovely place to lunch with friends.
J. D.
Absolutely amazing food and a fantastic range of sake and whiskey. However, the front of house staff were wildly disorganised. Our reserved table had been given to someone else, after being seated 20 minutes late we were told we had 1.5h from our original booking to be gone before the next group. Our last course arrived 10 minutes before that deadline. Drinks orders were forgotten several times, food and dietary orders were mixed up several times between courses.
Thankfully the amazing food redeems the place.
H. C.
Feed me option @ $49 per person is great value, food was awesome. Especially loved the dessert!
J. T.
The food here is amazing. Try the feed me menu if you can’t decide and want a bit of everything.
W. L.
Japanese fried chicken and soft shell crab baos were very nice. Papaya salad was tasteless and tastes nothing like the real thing
L.
One of the top places to go for a feed in Canberra. Place has a great vibe and the food is top notch. The fried rice and short rib were both highlights. Also has a wide drink selection and does late night ramen. Make sure you book it gets busy.
E. T.
Amazing food, fantastic service. Will dine again for sure
S. D.
Had yet another great experience at Akiba. Just wanted to pop in for a quick drink but still was greeted with warmest service and attention! Were served by a lovely young waitress, I think her name was Lucy from what I recall, and felt incredibly welcome and attended to as usual. Will be back again soon!
S. V.
Had an amazing time great food and drinks. The chicken was fantastic and my friend loved the salmon.
Thanks for the great drink recommendations Lucas and your awesome attitude. Shout-out to Eddie as well for bringing a great atmosphere.
Made the place so much more welcoming with your attitudes.
M. M.
Lovely food and super friendly staff!!! Unfortunately I had to deduct one star as we had to wait quite a while in between courses, I think they forgot about us. Still a solid recommend!!!
e.
Great food! Oysters are amazingly freash! Many choices of drinks, Great plcae to hang out with a bouch of friends. In Canberra CBD!
L. G.
Didn’t meet the hype as one the of the best restaurants in Canberra. Food was underwhelming and raw seafood dishes were a bit bland. Ordered 9 dishes between 2 people to try the menu and every dish came out in no order and basically all at once so our hot dishes went cold. We ordered a few drinks and they didn’t clear any glasses off our table the entire night. On the plus side the staff were lovely and the soft shell crab was delicious.
X. C.
Atmosphere is good, but the food…as an Asian, it is not good enough. The green papaya salad is lack of flavor, to be specific, there is no fish source at all! The roast duck is over cooked and too salty without any other flavor. Oysters are very fresh!
S. T.
Excellent food and great value. The kingfish sashimi with coconut milk was novel and very good.
S. N.
We went for a bday lunch. Got the feed me option. Absolutely amazing food. So fresh and delicious!
Lindon our server was so good! He was friendly and super helpful even if it was his bday too!
10/10 for food 20/10 for service!!
A. V.
Ok Asian fusion food. The fried squid and onsen egg were fine on their own but didn't seem to compliment each other. It would have been good to have had a dipping sauce with the squid. The beef rib was tasty but some parts of the meat was overcooked. Chinese broccoli or beans shoots would have been a good addition to the dish and would have rounded it out.
L.
I couldn't pick what to eat and bartender suggested several dishes, I went for the octopus as it was something different. I would never pick it as it was in shared plates and I was alone so I really appreciate his help as that dish was absolutely amazing! Octopus was just perfect and potatoes were one of the best I have had in my life. The serving was huge too. I wish I had more room in my stomach to try more food as I believe those people know how to cook! Good prices too and service is impeccable.
g. b.
My sister and I had the 8 coursed Feed Me set menu. Great variety and excellent quality. We sat at the bar, chatted with the super friendly staff, Alice was fantastic. Would go back again in a heartbeat. Even though it was really busy, the staff didn’t miss a beat. Highly recommended.
G. S.
Kobe beef was awesome but not as good as RILEY WHO WAS 👏 awesomely awesome!!!!!!!
K. P.
Even they are packed with a lot of people, food came pretty quick and all of them are delicious. Highly recommend.
J. M.
Wonderful food and drinks. Went to Akiba for a special night out and it was well worth fighting the cold. We started the night with a couple of inventive cocktails, their take on the negroni - the Tokyo - is something I'm going to try and master myself. For food we had a mix of plates; the Peking dumplings, pork and soft shell crab buns, tamarind short ribs but the real star was the miso eggplant. Incredible mix of flavours and textures.
We will hopefully be back!
S. G.
The feed me menu was varied and delicious. You will not go hungry nor be disappointed, there are no ‘fillers’ in this line up.
The whiskey selection is mind blowing and I really enjoy the sake. Wonderful night and dining experience.
T. M.
Friendly staff, great atmosphere and yummy food!
I'll be back thanks!
J. P.
Looking for something to spice up your place look no further. Akiba has all you could such an amazing variety of Asian food, so delicious! Special shout out to Mugi for his amazing hospitality and service, so prompt with our orders and very attentive! Also if you wanna try something a little different recommend the Eggplant! Just try it it’s like a beautiful explosion of flavours in your mouth so amazing!!!
P. F.
Had the Feed Me menu, brilliant range and flavours, heaps of food, left we'll fed!
S. B.
I ordered the “Just feed me” and was able to take it away. It’s so cool that you can have a degustation type meal to take away. Each dish was amazing and was perfectly portioned across all the dishes. Dining in or out I’d definitely recommend dining here if you’re visiting Canberra
J. L.
Food was excellent. Interesting fusion take on Japanese cuisine. Notable dishes were their agedashi tofu and salmon ceviche. Great atmosphere for a night out. Our waiter Lucas had exceptional customer service, showing attention and care to our order (we ordered a lot for two people, and took the time to make sure we weren't over ordering for ourselves). He had a great attitude and balanced the busy evening very well.
The only con I might add was the cocktail I had, as it was a little heavy on the gin for a cocktail that sounds (based on description) to be something sweeter. However this is purely my personal preference, so doesn't warrant a star demerit or anything.
Overall, highly recommend this place!!
W. P.
Great food, great drinks, trendy environment and good service. When you go there, feels like you are not in Canboring any more...
p.
Akiba is always a good choice for a meal out, and tonight was no exception. The staff managed to squeeze us in with some excellent table juggling, the food was prompt and delicious, and our server, Mia, was personable and informative.
There's not really any bad dishes, but if you'd like some surprising dishes, the miso eggplant is amazing, the ceviche is sweet, salty, and tangy, and the bao are bloody delicious. The sake jelly drinks are also worth a go - plum is my favourite.
B. P.
They happily accommodated two of us as walk-ins despite being visibly very busy. The menu and drinks were amazing and Ayush was a great bartender/waiter. We will definitely return.
C. A.
Came here for a lunch date and it was absolutely amazing! We had the 'Feed Me' menu and it did not disappoint! 8 favourite dishes - 8 amazing, well portioned delcious dishes to share. Asian fusion with predominant Japanese flavours. YUM!! Dishes plated beautifully, the service was impeccable and so genuine. Ambience was modern, clean, and comfortable! Classy food in a relaxed environment, I shall be back 😊
R. P.
Great restaurant, great food & most importantly great service from Lucas 🤩 As we are from interstate he recommend a local Canberra drink followed by excellent menu advice. The food came out quickly and we were checked on regularly..never an empty plate or glass in sight. Can’t wait to come back and try more off the menu!
S. S.
Food was average but service was top-notch! Take advantage of their free beer coupon to the bar across the road. I'd suggest use the coupon after your dinner as the wait was less than 20 mins.
J. H.
We had high expectations after reading some great reviews - but I have to say it was disappointing. Lucas, our server was very welcoming and friendly, but the food was slow to come. When it did the flavors of most of the dishes we tried were oldly matched, like they didn't really compliment each other. Everything was very saucy, so you can't really appreciate the natural flavors of the ingredients. Sorry to say, very average.
Y. L.
The josper octopus was perfect, while the kimchi pancakes tasted just so so. Anyway, it’s still a good place to go for a drink and try some Japanese infused food.
R. F.
Perfect place to hangout with your squad. Good food plus wide choices of drinks, along with reasonable price.
M. D.
Great Pan asian cuisine. Lovely venue, great attentive staff and food on point. Couldn't fault it even when we ordered the octopus which was overcooked , the chef was apologetic , took it off the bill and sent us the beef skirt which was sensational and the miso chocolate dessert was divine. Def the best note to finish our experience. Highly recommend. But def book in advance.
P. K.
Food, ambience and experience were amazing! 5 stars for Riley our waiter
C.
I really enjoyed the meal and the vibe. Service was welcoming.
B. T.
Everything was amazing, the teriyaki beef and the kingfish sashimi are a must have! Will be back
M. D.
Consistently excellent food and a great atmosphere. Always busy but the service is attentive.
P. K.
Food, service, bar 5*****. It’s worth a visit. Relaxed vibe with amazing food where everything has a twist to what you would be use too. It’s not a franchise and they pride of happy customers.
B. S.
Try everything!
While watching fresh fish being filleted by a master with a knife, I sampled chicken, octopus, and squid. The pork belly bun and pork belly ramen were perfectly cooked and seasoned.
You'll want to keep going back.
T. D.
It offers various food of mixed Chinese food and Japanese food, which can be called creative but little bit of weird. It is still worth to try.
A. K.
The customer service at Akiba was so good. We had Mugi taking care of us for the night and he made the experience all the more better for us. Food was okay. We tried the 2 banquets and both were okay. Not amazing but for the price and ambiance, it was alright.
L. J.
Yum.yum.yum. what a restaurant. We came with our q year old son, and the staff and kitchen were so accommodating to have us in and out in max 1 hour. We managed to eat a 6 course tasting menu with drinks in 45 minutes before our son lost it. The food was exceptional and a great take on modern Japanese and Korean.
E. B. G.
Lucas was a fantastic worker! The food was delicious and overall the service was professional
D. L.
Great venue, food and drinks on point and good crowd! Definitely recommend it.
Would give 5 starts, however:
- When I walked in, I saw some plates being carried around and they were fairly small so I thought to order quite a few things for my wife and I. Turned out that it was WAY too much food for 2. Would be nice if the server could be a bit more caring to guide/advise us in relation to quantity and dish sizes. I even asked “enough for two, yeah?” and got a meh reply “you will be Ok”
- Not only I ended up ordering too much food, the server came to ask how I was going with it at some point because my seating time was coming to an end? Really? Plenty of empty spots around me in the venue and you come to say that? Not good…
Regardless, these were small inconveniences that didn’t compromise the overall experience!

Akiba = Next Level.
Consistently delivers excellent food with great service, matched with a huge range of awesome spirits.
R. S.
We didn’t book but the host had space for us on a busy night, great vibe. We loved every dish on the feed me. Awesome cocktails. We will have to drop by again for the Luxe feed me. Big thankyou to floor staff and kitchen!
L. M.
I’ve been to Akiba a few times and have always thoroughly enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. It’s great for all occasions and has the bonus of a fully stocked bar and extensive cocktails to go with the beautifully crafted and presented food. Highly recommended.
S. M.
First timer here. Went last night and it was amazing. Food was reasonably priced and everything we had was so delicious. I especially loved the service from our waitress, Edi. She was attentive and very funny! She definitely made the experience so much better. Thanks, Edi!
P. T.
Seriously the food is absolutely to die for. Never tasted such an explosion of flavours and the service is second to none. Ruby made sure we were kept fully serviced with the Feed Me menus of 8 courses whilst Eva created her dishes with love and artistry in front of me. Best food made in heaven.
J. B.
Polite, fast service even when busy, and amazing food. Peking duck dumplings are a must have.
E. R.
Friendly staff, not a bad environment. Food was quite average compared to some other Japanese restaurant. It's alright, but, my let down was the papaya salad that doesn't go too well and the tuna tartare that was a bit too sour. Everything else is quite average. Nonetheless, Soft shell crab bao was cooked perfectly, could have a more complex taste instead of just mayo.
A. R.
For some fine Japanese food best place to hop in is Akiba based on Bunda Street in Canberra.. It basically serve Pan Asian food. Great options for both veg n non veg foodies..
Recently I tried few options.. In frame Fried Chicken Khimchi Bun. Enjoy the crispy chicken in the comfort of the soft bun.
Along with chicken and Prawns and Chicken 🥟 with ginger n black vinegar dressing. Lastly we had 🐯 🦐 Fried Rice..
I loved the eggplant 🍆 dish as well..
Worth trying 😍 food options over here.. I am sure it won't disappoint you.
C. B.
Brilliant eatery… visited when last in Canberra. Excellent service and food.
V. M.
the food was unlike no other! wish this food had a view though, it would top everything else not just the food. it was great!
A. R.
Had braise beef ramen, creamy soya ramen and pulled beef bun.
The braise beef ramen came with good portion. Tops with poached egg. It's bit salty for me.
Creamy soya ramen, its a vegetarian. The fried soft tofu is delicious. Crunchy and soft inside.
The pulled beef bun is so good. With mayo, crushed roasted peanuts and preserved veggie. Its a good combination. Must try.
J. S.
We’ve been here a few times and the food has been constantly yum. This time around we tried the kingfish sashimi, beef (this was crazy good) and crab buns, kimchi pancake with oysters, fried squid and finished the meal with a decadent valrhona chocolate treat. We were stuffed by the end of the meal.
Our experience was elevated by our server, Lucas. He did such an amazing job taking care of us and had such a positive spirit. Thanks Lucas and team! Can’t wait to come back. I’m already planning what to get next.
F. L.
Just finished up a meal here, ordered the "feed me 8" and golly gosh it was unbelievably good! The fish was incredible and the rice was amazing. Our waiter, Mugi took incredible care of us and helped make it a wonderful experience
M. P.
found this place last minute , so we decide to try it. overall a 5 star experience , a special Thank to Lara , our section waitress who took a really good care of us, genuine hospitality and smile on her face all the time made our choise of food easy. try almost all the menu ( only 2 of us ) my favourite was the kingfish , nice balance between the citrus and the spice , really good also the chicken and prawn dumpling ,nice acidity.
as constructive feedback from my side I would put a bit less horseradish on the tuna tartare, it killed a bit the beauty of the flavours, salmon was divine , presentation could be better. my crab bun was a bit average I would say , nothing special added to it. cocktails were good , I had the summer something and was really refreshing.
ordered a Porto wine at the end with dessert and was nice to see that the staff was trying it as training . good vibe , good and friendly staff , when back to Canberra will definetely try it again .
T. B.
Had a fantastic meal, the taste me menu was awesome!
Mia looked after us, and we had a great night. Thanks Mia, great work!
A. P.
The best vibe in Canberra! We were visiting from Melbourne and had been recommended here. It was fully booked online however we rocked up and the manager was super accommodating and was able to squeeze us in. Food was amazing, Lucas our waiter was fab and we loved the Money Shots - highly recommend!
M. T.
Ayush and Phoebe looked after us so well. The luxe feed me menu was full of all our Akiba favourites and Ayush’s suggestions on drinks that would match were outstanding. Another great meal at Akiba - thanks to all the team.
M. A.
Went out for a nice dinner with the girlfriend. Food was exceptional and drinks were even better. We were served by Cooper, hands down one of the best blokes I’ve ever met. Can not recommend this place enough!
R. C.
Location, ambience, service & venue 'fit out' were all 5 STARS...but when said & done, we came for the menu. Not only did the food reach the lofty standards set by the other stuff...it exceeded it. But Google Maps Reviews only allows for 5 STARS, so we'll have to leave it there. #WorldClass
A. 2.
Absolutely incredible food, if you can't decide what to order get the feed me 8! Best food I've eaten in a very long time.
If you're lucky enough Mugi might be your waiter and if he is you're in for a treat!
Will be back here ASAP!
C. B.
Stopped in for a quick lunch before I drove back to Sydney. Good atmosphere, good service. But very expensive. $9 for one bao seems pretty excessive to me. Or are things just really expensive in Canberra compared to Sydney? Seems like a good spot if you have a large group.
R. F.
Words can not describe the service we received! Edeline (Eddie) was amazing, very friendly and super helpful! She made suggestions that we were very grateful for, what she recommended suited our needs and was absolutely delicious. The food was absolutely amazing, I wish I could have eaten more, we can't wait to come back. Please pass on our thanks to Eddie, what an assets to your team!
J.
Great service, atmosphere and most importantly, excellent food with equal parts flavour, imagination and presentation. Despite living just outside of Melbourne, I'm confident that tonight's meal at Akiba won't be our last.
C. J.
We dined at Akiba last night whilst on holidays. From the time of booking to the moment we left we experienced exceptional service. As a coeliac to have a dedicated menu (might add every dietary requirement has a dedicated menu) this was amazing. Lucy our host was sensational. The king prawn fries rice was fantastic, the salt and sichuan squid delightful, short rib so tender, beautiful potatoes and then the tofu cheesecake was OMG divine. Drinks great selection. Can't wait to come back!!! Thank you for a great night!
L. S.
Aggressively Japanese-Aussie fusion so best to rely on recommendations. Named after the flashy Tokyo high tech district, it does sparkle. The small shared plates aregood quality but consider only getting a few at a time because each can be an adventure in itself. Bit noisy on the inside but it is pleasant in the covered outdoor eating on Bunda Street... especially in an Autumn afternoon. CBR wifi is acceptable but limited.
J. F.
What a fabulous restaurant - we had a group night out and it was perfect with share plates and a range of items on the menu that suited everybody. Also the staff were very helpful and friendly- great service.!!!
A. T.
Visited 2 hours ago and left with a full stomach. Sat at the bar area and had an enjoyable time chatting with the chef. Make sure to book before you visit since they get busy. The food I ordered was delicious and each dish had it's own uniqueness! Will definitely be back soon! :)
J. M.
Great food! Lucas was our waiter and he was extremely friendly and helped us with the menu as it was our first time eating here. All staff were friendly and helpful. Overall a very pleasing experience.
S. H.
Akiba never disappoints. The tasting menu is delicious - the bao buns and the miso eggplant are the standouts. Lots of drink options and the service is always been excellent!
K. H.
We were lucky to book lunch today as we saw many disappointed people (without bookings) turned away.
The staff here are really friendly and work really efficiently together. The highlights were the Kobe beef teriyaki and the Asian fried chicken but the pork belly buns and octopus dumplings were also sensational.
N. L.
Love this place soooooo much! Best food in Canberra! super friendly, quick and efficient, friendly waiters that are really helpful with the menu. Pretty relaxed vibe here, casual and you can get pretty much any drinks you want.
T. F.
Great food and atmosphere. Alex was amazing with our complex dietary requirements even when it was super busy, felt so safe eating there.
T. L.
I really wanted to like this place and am quite disappointed to have to give it 3 stars. They serve hipster Asian fusion food which is quite nice and the ambience is good. However, the service is what really let them down. We came here for a work lunch on the "Feed me" set meal. They asked for any dietary requirements so I advised them of my allergies, but then brought me food with massive chunks of exactly what I can't eat. I spent the rest of the time being paranoid and constantly checking my food in case they made another mistake. A colleague ordered a juice as she didn't want to drink (we all heard her order). Then when the bill came out at the end she found it there was a shot of vodka in her juice. They "fixed up" the bill by removing the charge for the shot of vodka but still charged her the juice (would have expected at least the whole drink to be free). The waiter was nice and very apologetic about both incidents with my food and the vodka, but really these mistakes shouldn't happen. I know it is busy being Christmas season, but literally every eating place now requires bookings way ahead of time - no one can really claim they didn't know how busy it was going to be.
I. D. A.
Excellent food. Oysters natural, fresh, plump and very tasty. Beef spare ribs delicious, Cone Bay Barramundi delectable and mouth watering desserts. Yummy all round and fantastic service with a smile from Marigold. Thanks.
v. s.
This place OMG.. best restaurant in Canberra, I honestly can't wait to plan my next weekend here , it's been an amazing experience. I am in Love with this place and the service provided by Eddie . She gave us spectacular service. Definitely coming back and highly recommended.
S. T.
Alex was fabulous!!! It was my first Japanese dining experience and Alex made it very easy!! Thankyou Alex!! The atmosphere at Akiba was very pleasant!! Will certainly be visiting again!!
C. F.
This place is AMAZING! The food of course, but particularly the drinks menu and the waiters/waitresses!!! Our boy Lucas was recommending us drinks, answering our questions, and generally looking out for us the whole night! Edi also came to say a very friendly hello to us 💖 Highly recommend a dinner at Akiba 🤩
L. D.
Awesome atmosphere, happening place, really great food. Had the chicken and prawn dumplings, josper octopus, and the Japanese fried chicken, all amazing meals, only issue was the potatoes on the josper octopus were a bit salty
J. C.
Leeta and Lucas were the best waiters we’ve ever had. Their enthusiasm and smiles just made our visit to Canberra so much better then we thought it could be. They deserve a raise. Period.
From Jasmine, Sam, Zoe, Riann, Shane and Carolyn ... we love you!
G. M.
Fantastic friendly service!
The fusion dishes are tasty and Moreish. Great team!
M. B.
Two words.... Bloody delicious!!! Every meal was just so good. From the kobe skirt to the edamame. Anyone local in Canberra or just visting, Akiba with it Japanese Asian style food is a hot spot for some great staring food and great service.
S.
Enjoyed the 'feed me' menu option and thoroughly enjoyed the variety and quality of food. The bao buns and kingfish were a fave! Lucas was our waiter and was attentive, helpful and very friendly. Great place to share a meal with friends :)
N. M.
Mia has just been wonderful! Thank you for making our night so memorable! 😊

First time here with my partner for our 2nd anniversary date. We decided to go ahead with the Akiba Luxe Menu ($65pp). Had to say nothing blows our mind...Firstly, I don't eat raw food and considering that this was a pricey menu, I thought they would at least replace the tuna and kingfish sashimi with somewhat equal value.. For my dish, they've replaced the kingfish sashimi with a bowl of edamames... dont get me wrong, it's delicious but for the price I've paid, i honestly can't believe they replaced the sashimi with just edamames. For the tuna sashimi dish, I got corn pancake instead, which was pretty good. Secondly, the waiter got my partner's beer wrong and my umeshu wrong... I have clearly zoomed the Umeshu name for him so that he could copy and write it down on his book and they ended up giving me a 180ml Sake instead. I had to wait for at least 20 minutes to get my umeshu and then i found out they gave me sake instead and I had to complained. I had to at least wait another 20 minutes for them to deliver my umeshu. It's not even a cocktail, it's just some drink where you pour out of the bottle and serve so i dont know why they took that long to serve my drink -- by that time, my partner was already finishing half of his Asahi on tap.
The dessert was amazing though and we both think the dessert are the best part of all the 9 dishes... we've tried the place and it was nothing special hence i dont think we will be coming back again.
N. C.
Fun to share the yum cha and other plates with friends. Very tasty flavours and textures, super friendly staff. Also a rotary evaporator behind the bar - they know their stuff!
e. m.
I only made an account to leave this 5star review - its not often a restaurant leaves me this impressed not only by the food but also the customer service is on point! if i could give a 10star i would!! Our server tonight "Marigold" was super friendly and very helpful. I will be recommending this place to family and friends.
K. K.
Excellent food. Plenty to choose from. Massive drinks menu. Staff were excellent.
S. P.
This place is great! Atmosphere is absolutely fantastic, the staff is also really friendly and you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority. They know what they’re doing and what they’re talking about. Super helpful with suggestions which makes it so convenient for someone who is as indecisive as me lol. Always a positive experience at Akiba. The food is 10/10!!!
D. G.
Average food, below average service again. Second time of going (always give someone or something a second chance). Visited on the 1st of April this year. Ordered a gin and tonic, I requested one piece of ice and just a little bit of tonic. I waited 18 minutes and when it came it was the absolute opposite of what I asked for. Second drink was no better. Spoke with the young male manager (Jason Statham) lookalike who gave no apology just took the drinks off the bill, poor service, there won’t be a third 👎.
C. C.
This experience is a must. Super friendly staff and authentic food that delights.
V. C.
Casual and fun place, good food and great sake collection.
S. P.
Simply faultless. The food was fantastic, served quickly and in generous portions. The service was friendly and prompt. The outdoor dining area was very comfortable even though it was a hot day.
I'd give six stars if I could - fantastic.
K. L.
For the second time this month Ive made a positive review about Ayush, he has given me the most attentive service listening to our drink requests and ran with his own visions on what we would like! Couldn’t fault the business food was spectacular as were the drinks!
The customer service given to us by Ayush (for the second time) has been paramount and we would follow him to any business. Thank you for both remembering us and for your enthusiasm to see us again. A bartender worth more than diamonds
J. G.
Went here on my first night on Canberra and was warmly welcomes and sat down to an incredible meal and a good drop of sake. Hats off to the chefs and to our waiter Alex for going above and beyond for us. Will be back to try more from the menu :)
P. A.
Great tasting food and the 'just fed me' options offer a variety of flavours. The portions are small and that makes them a little pricey but it's certainly a nice atmosphere and flavoursome experience for the occasional treat.
M. G.
Best meal I have had so far in Canberra! I came here for lunch with coworkers, and was really impressed. Good food, fast service. The group of us shared the squid (amazing!) and then ordered individual meals. I chose the pork ramen- lots of pork belly in this dish. I would highly recommend you stop in.
C. S.
My girlfriends and I had a booking here on Monday night, and while the food was good, we had a similar experience to others and had to wait an exorbitant amount of time for our drinks! We initially ordered two (which took a while) but when our other friends arrived, they waited at least 30mins before we were told there had been a mistake and not entered our order. While it's understandable there was a mistake when I mentioned it was a long time, the waitress was very defensive and the service after was icy...at the end of the meal after being asked how everything was, I mentioned again and was told sorry...hospitality 101 - just offer the drinks for free. It really ruined what would have otherwise been a nice dining experience.
B. G.
The food is quite good, but the service could be improved. We felt rushed to vacate the table. We waited 25 minutes to be served and once we got the dishes the waitress asked us to leave 10 minutes later.
I understand that with COVID the restaurants need to find ways to serve the same amount of customers in the same time as before respecting social distancing etc, but this is detrimental to the customer's experience.
I am sure this is mainly due to the current situation and I will definitely come back because I liked the food.
N. M.
A casual evening with my wife, at a restaurant I always wanted to try, delivered much more than what expected.
A great bar, a wonderful fusion menu with some japanese influence, innovative dishes and well prepared food that impressed.
We had the 9 course degustation menu and we were more than happy and content. We loved it and we will definitely be back soon. A Canberra must.
L. J.
Really enjoyed the tofu, eggplant and short rib. JFC was super bland and a bit fo a disappointment amongst all the other tasty dishes. A little overpriced and service a little lacking - only reasons not to give 5 stars.
K. F.
The food was fabulous however we weren’t happy with the service. Our waitress reminded us every 15 mins our reservation period was finishing at 715, and we needed to hurry up. It made dinner feel stressful and rushed.
H.
A bit expensive. Hot sake is awesome. The staff are friendly.
A. T.
Great food and service. Lucas really looked after our experience and made a fantastic cocktail recommendation! What a great first meal for a bunch of Canberra first timers.
T. B.
Good service, good food, good view and did I say good food?
M. M.
Food was good but felt rushed,
after 60 minutes told we only had half an hour of our booking left. Wanted to order more food. 80 minutes into sitting and bill arrived on our table, funny didn't ask for it. Not a relaxing way to spend 300 dollars plus.
V. S.
Had a wonderful experience at Akiba, food was delicious and beautifully presented, and service was sensational. Special thanks to Lucas for taking care of us and recommending great drinks. We will be back with more friends in the future. Thank you!
I. S.
We got the feed me. Great variety of choices. Service was great. Vibe was hip.
V. M.
Lunched there today, the food was Amazing and the service was Tip Top 👌 favorite dish would have to be the Kobe beef skirt .
Thank you to all the staff that always make you feel welcome . Highly recommend this place and to finish off make sure you have a
“money shot” 🍸
D. R.
amazing food, Riley our waiter was fabulous!!
R. I.
I had lunch with a colleague and the service and food were both faultless. We had the fried chicken is to die for which was set on top of braised onions and Parmesan cheese which added depth to the flavour. We also had the octopus with duck fat prairies sounded like an odd combination but it worked, the octopus was Trever and had a pleasant orange flavour and the potatoes were crushed new potatoes,I had expected roasted butternut they were delicious. The bao buns were soft and fluffy and stuffed with pork belly, what's not to love there? Overall it's the best food I've had in a while. Service was efficient and friendly, out waitress was chatty and efficient, refilling our water and replacing the dropped chopsticks. It's nice to see front of house skills being focused on and a step above the very average service I received in many places. It's not quite fine dining but a real step above the myriad of high Street restaurants it is surrounded byeby. overall a great experience and I can't wait to go back.
R. M.
Loved the whole place but you really gotta know what your getting otherwise you might be a bit overwhelmed. They do help but it's all about taste. Food was great as well although limited choices if you have shellfish allergies
E. M.
Great food, easy to share plates. A fantastic selection of drinks. We tried the Japanese beer - delicious. The food was very fresh, prepared quickly and very good service.
S. L. B.
Was in Canberra for 1 night.
This place was recommended by a friend and now I'm recommending it to anyone who reads this.
Food was great! Set menu was great way to go. No thought needed and delivered great food.
Really prompt service to!
P. S.
Love this place!!! Amazing delicious food and drinks. Can’t wait to go back!
B.
Excellent service tonight! Ruby made sure we were comfortable and was super helpful and friendly. The other waitress Ella went above and beyond our expectations and made us feel very welcome. Will be back again soon !!
E. T.
delicious food and cocktails! staff are always very friendly
E. C.
It’s ok.
Foods Can be better.
Service was good.
c.
Love coming here! Favourite place to eat in Canberra!
E. C.
Ayush was the most amazing host/bartender. He made our night both entertaining and engaging, we were lucky enough to be sat at the bar and he spent the whole night encouraging us to try new cocktails and answering all our food questions and pretty much setting us out for the whole night.
The Kind of service you dream about. Thank you Ayush! This is a dinner we will never forget
A. R.
One of the best pan-asian fusion restaurants that offer a "feed-me" options that I've been too. And for just 65$, their Akiba Luxe 9-dish menu is simply both affordable and superb. The dengaku eggplant, kingfish sashimi, and barramundi were the standouts, but each of the nine dishes served were great on its own. Will definitely have a second go here when I return to Canberra!
M. B.
Not the did I'd usually try but we went and it was great. A large selection of drinks and an interesting menu to choose from, I would recommend the Duck Dumplings
K.
Great atmosphere, delicious food and wonderful staff. We had one small issue and all the staff were so apologetic and went above and beyond to rectify the issue. Would definitely eat here again.
H. Y.
Great place, great atmosphere, and great service!
Make sure you book ahead as this place is crowded.
Octopus Joster is really tasty and delicious and unique!
The rest of the dishes are quite good as well.
Will surely be back of we're going back to Canberra as well!
A. M.
Great food. Amazing staff and brilliant service. Fantastic cocktails and bar staff totally entertaining. Definitely recommend.
m. (. M.
Absolutely love this place. Great vibe, the food is super good, service is good and the drink list unreal. If you are into Sake or Japanese Whiskey, this is the place to go. Been there multiple times during a recent business trip and will go back for sure. Only thing I would comment on I would say is that the drinks, Sake especially, are very over priced. But even if you just go there for the food, you won't be dissapointed.
L. B.
We had Alex as our waitress and she gave us the most incredible cocktail and food recommendations. Definitely try the lychee cocktail! Service from Alex was amazing. We can't wait to return
M. S.
Locals brought us here for dinner and I can see why.
The place was full, buzzing with energy, happy friendly staff and the food is fresh, innovative and very tasty
Yum!
Another visit when we're back in Canberra
S. W.
Prices are high but thats expected in the city. Food is good. Good experience overall.
D. S.
Each plate was uniquely amazing. The flavors were a perfect blend. Each plate is put together with attention to detail and served professionally explaining each individual serving. The staff is friendly. I especially enjoyed the conversation with Parash. He was very professional and easy to talk to. Can't wait to go back!
G. Y.
Ordinary Western-style Asian food, it will not be difficult to eat, but there is no surprise
A. S.
The service from Pheobe was awesome! 10/10 recommend. Nice staff and great food.
A. G.
A-MAZE-ING!! Ayush and Laura made our night fun with great cocktails. The food was delicious. A must do eating experience. Sit at the bar. You will love it.
R. K.
Its not often I even bother to write a review, but the food, service and atmosphere of Akiba impressed beyond expectations. Food full of flavour and presented brilliantly, reasonably priced drinks, good music and attentive staff. Cannot recommend enough.
L. L.
Nice food and service, 49pp is enough for one person.
E. T.
Amazing food and great drinks! Mugi was the best and took great care of us! Definitely coming back here!
M. E.
The food is delicious and the earl grey martini is great!!
D. T.
The food was delicious and pretty reasonably priced considering the quality, but the service was poor. It took them over 35mins to make 2 cocktails. We had the “Feed Me” menu, which was tasty but poorly paced — the last four dishes came out 15mins before our sitting ended and we were asked to leave. This meant the waiter was picking up literal plates of food and saying “have a good night guys!” Strange.
k. g.
Great food, good veg options, some dishes are overpriced for what they are , eg plate of steamed Asian broccoli with no flavouring. But great drinks and our waiter Lucas was fantastic.
J. B.
Fun fun fun. The food was pretty tasty. Service was really quick, and enjoyed all we ate. Good fusion food.
R. D.
The food and drinks were amqzing! Lucas looked after us the whole night and recommend us amazing drinks. Edi was so nice and funny and I love her. You guys are amazing
M. W.
Delicious food. Friendly service! And a wonderful range of 酒 sake and flavoured drinks like 梅酒 plum wine and yuzu sho! Can't wait to go back.
Edit: came here again on 20/03/21 Lucas was fantastic!! Great food once again! Always worth it.
J. M.
A modern take on Japanese food. Very quick service and tasty food. Feels like an overly expensive fast food restaurant. COVID doesn't allow you to slowly enjoy the experience, you constantly feel rushed on a uncomfortable seat. Then quickly pay and get out the way - so staff can prepare for the next customers. Don't know if I will be back
Z. Y.
Food was great and has been both times I've eaten here. However found the staff to be super pushy and trying to turn over tables way to fast and not in a fair way. There were some people sitting near us who were there before my table and was still there when they were pushing for us to leave.
E. S.
Exceptional food and incredible service from all the team, especially Ruby. The octopus was spectacular, and the mushrooms were amazing. The only negative is that Ruby wouldn’t let us steal the cool tableware 😂
J. W.
Great food and friendly staff (if you manage to meet Phoebe, she’s a ray of sunshine)!
A no-brainer for any group with menu options to suit everyone. 10/10 will be back.
S. G.
Menus are got by scanning a QR code which is an interesting way to do it and makes good use of the internet. Now, it would be even more interesting if said menu was then a shopping style site where you could order direct from the kitchen and bypass talking to a waiter at all, such as they have in restaurants in Tokyo. I imagine providing an iPad style device per table would be expensive. Also there'd be no or little interaction with the wait staff, which kind of defeats the purpose of even going to a restaurant. Also, these staffs wore enthusiastic grins and were trying very hard at helpful. Nice! The bar here is tremendously well equipped and as iconic as a bar you might see in upscale New York. Sake was delicious. The food is pretty good but the $50 per person feasting platter requires a considerable appetite. The kingfish sashimi with the garlic flakes is exceptional and the eggplant OK. The $64000 question is what style of restaurant is AKIBA? Japanese or Chinese or Korean? It's a worrying case of restaurant style by committee which mostly works but at times feels confusing.
S. B.
Great food, great drinks menu, great selection of spirits (hello Whiskey passport). Have recently been eating vegetarian, and my first proper meal out after making the change was here. Was really surprised by how much I enjoyed the meal with all the different vegetarian/vegan options they brought out in the banquet. It was a little painful not to be able to eat the meat filled Bao that came out (my previous favourite here) but all the other dishes I had were fantastic. I left feeling very satisfied.
J. S.
I love akiba for quick snacks and bar food before catching a movie or after work. I totally rate the eggplant! It's my favourite asian style eggplant in Canberra, perfectly soft, dripping in miso and a nice crunch of pumpkin seeds on top of texture. The soft shell crab bao and pork belly bao are also recommended. I go here often however the last time I went on a thursday evening I had particularly great service!
B. A.
The place was bustling with people so I was concerned that food & drink orders would take ages but to the contrary, service (thanks to Stuart) was fast and efficient. Food was excellent. Cheers! The food came out promptly and was so delicious! The staff were incredible, and our server, Stuart, was friendly, knowledgeable and was extremely accommodating. The miso eggplant is truly amazing, highly recommend. Thank you Akiba for a perfect dinner!
M. m.
Loved this restaurant, had a wonderful birthday dinner here with lovely service from Jemma and and an awesome playlist from Shaun. Awesome service and brilliant food, loved it so much I got takeaway for the leftovers. Much love to the team at Akiba
t. y.
Good food & service. Recommend the fried chicken, tuna and dumplings
J. V.
Mia was a 10/10 vibe!!! Great service + great food 👌✨
S. H.
Delicious food and great music!
J. M.
Great lunch. Edamame...excellent. Peking duck dumplings...fantastic. Fried tofu...great. Bao...superb. Atmosphere to match.
Do yourself a flavour...eat here!
K. W.
A class above the rest, from the quality food, sensible pricing and awesome staff to the cool vibe, its just a must experience destination...
Gia the shot queen and Stuart the dad joke king deserve a special mention...
M. T.
The best, non-fine-dining, place to eat in Canberra. Highly recommend the Feed Me menu, with the dessert added at the end. Of the menu options my favs are the kingfish, bao bun, short rib and eggplant! the restaurant has a great atmosphere and always busy so you must book ahead!
N. S.
Absolutley amazing service especially from the lovely Ruby and the food was exceptional! Would definitely recommend to come here and try the “feed me” which was the perfect choice for a 21st dinner!

Feed me menu 10/10. Highly recommend if you are not sure what to pick from an amazing range of food.

Amazing food in Canberra. Loved that they had such wonderful vegetarian and vegan options. The nasu dengaku is a very cool twist on the original and a must order even for meat eaters. We are in one night and had take away the next. You will not be disappointed!

Had a great dinner on a busy Saturday night. There were a lot of Sake to choose from.
The service was excellent, the server spent the time to describe each dish as they came out and was happy to answer any questions regarding the food and sake.
They had a little hiccup in the kitchen with our order and the last few dishes too a bit longer to come out. We hardly even notice any delay, but the chef came out to apologise.
Overall a great experience with amazing food and a large range of sake.

This is a very popular restaurant in Civic and bookings are recommended. We took a punt, though, and turned up before 8pm and managed to get a table inside. Service was very prompt.
The atmosphere and ambience of the restaurant were great and the service was faultless. The food definitely had a wow factor! Had a fantastic time at AKIBA.
Very enjoyable evening would definitely recommend. Thank you AKIBA!

Fantastic atmosphere, our waiter was so knowledgeable about the menu, the drinks were amazing. A wonderful night out! 10/10 recommend

Cool vibes, fast service and food. Great value for money.. we had so much left over that we had to get takeaway! Loved the dumplings, chicken Bao and salt and Sichuan squid.

It was a quick stop. Taste was excellent. Best place to have asian foods.

Akiba is a great special occasion dining option in the city as they recommend a good number of share plates for the best experience and the cost adds up. That being said, it's absolutely worth a visit as all the food is delicious and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes and what goes into each of them. Our waitress was very helpful in pointing out which dishes could be made vegetarian. The cocktail menu is also well worth a look.
Be sure to book a table as they do fill up quite quickly - we dined on a Tuesday and there were no spare tables to be found.

Good vibe, sake menu is impressive, the mushrooms are magical.

We were looked after by Lucas and had an amazing meal! Our favourites were the Kobe beef and king prawn fried rice, but everything was delicious.

Delicious food, cocktails and awesome staff. Never leave disappointed. Shout out to Cooper for making the best cocktails in town, service A ++++

Amazing food and service, great music

Excellent eclectic menu. Good wine list. The food is fantastic. The steamed buns and the Japanese spicy fried chicken are particularly good. Lots of sharing plate options. The atmosphere is lively, so get a booth if you want it a bit quieter. Service is friendly and efficient. Loved it.

We really loved the food here. It's fun to go in a group and order a range of share plates so that you can get a taste of everything. There's a great range of drinks that you won't find anywhere else. The staff were all really friendly and our food came out really quickly. It's very popular so you will want to make a reservation.

My friend and I had the best time with beautiful food, the food was well priced and the service was great. Ruby and Kai gave us their attention all night and were so welcoming and down to earth, some of the best hospitality I’ve had!

The miso eggplant! 😍 Umami goodness and a textural delight.
We went with our teen and took up the Feed Me option which was $49 each and got us 8 of their most popular dishes. Strong Japanese flavours with modern twists. We don’t usually go for Japanese (Thai or Malay is more our style) but decided to try something outside our lane seeing as we were on a holiday and this place had lots of recommendations from Facebook groups I asked.
Kingfish sashimi and beef short rib were standouts. Our teen loved the pork belly bao bun.
Funky feel but not pretentious. Next time I’d ask to sit at the kitchen bar so we could watch the action better, especially the fresh fish station. The booth we sat in was a little tight, so anyone who is on the large side would do better at a table or the bar area.
Staff were engaged and seemed genuinely interested when they asked how we enjoyed each dish.
I was particularly impressed with how friendly but firm they were with the social distancing rules. We had a late booking (9pm) and even though there were many empty tables and whole areas empty when we arrived at 8.45pm they asked (professionally and politely) if we could please return as they were at capacity for the current restrictions. As we walked around (interesting area full of food places) we witnessed a lot of other places with queues of people outside shoulder to shoulder with no social distancing.
Special mention goes to Mugi and Sophie who served us and made the night a great one.
It’s a popular spot, so definitely book, especially while Covid restrictions are still in place.

Delicious food served quickly, fried chicken was amazing. Great staff and atmosphere, lively but not ridiculously loud like some other nearby venues.

The most delicious food, great beverage selection and awesome staff. We had the best night out

A beautiful meal, very good. I sat at the sashimi bar and the lady working there was amazing. I got the just feed me menu for $49 it was great value which included a variety of delicious favourites.

Food is really tasty, we really enjoyed the chef's selection. It meant you got a bit of everything and didn't have to choose from the long list of great sounding stuff available.
Nice atmosphere too, as well as some interesting beers and sake. Well worth a visit.

The wagyu they have is outstanding! Great atmosphere.

This place is great for groups. Huge portions.
The pork belly bun had very dry meat, the edamame was a bit dry and bland.
The barramundi was excellent so was the beef short rib.
Food came out very quickly when the restaurant was not too busy.

We had a wonderful evening at Akiba. We particularly enjoyed the salmon ceviche and king fish sashimi. Our waiter, Lucas, was exceptional and made our evening a very enjoyable one. Thank you!

Nice Food but I did have a Sad Drink :P

Had a great lunch at Akiba today. My husband and I shared some soft shell crab buns and some pork belly buns which were absolutely delicious. I followed with a helping of duck dumplings while my husband had the chicken share dish. All dishes were cooked to perfection. I have no qualms in recommending Akiba to anyone wanting a super reasonably priced meal.

Stopped by for lunch. Great ramen and atmosphere, staff were great!

This place has the buzz and ambiance of an american style bar restaurant with delicious japanese food.
We were so impressed with the 8 course taster menu and love each and every dish.

Had an awesome time here and the food and service was outstanding... Ruby looked after us and was brilliant at advising us what to get and how much we should order. Will definitely be back 🙌👌

Believe the rating. This is not a hyped up place with flashy menus but no substance. Absolutely perfect food and service. We had the... Oh it doesn't matter! They're all absolutely fantastic! Book early!!

Ayush was the best bartender. Came with a y Yuzu trolley and it was so cool and convenient. Lovely experience! Hibiki bourbon selection is excellent!

I was there last Tuesday and food and service were outstanding:). My slow cooked beef rib was simply superb. Special thanks for Lucas who provided an excellent service for 4 of us on a very special occasion. Really appreciated the Akiba's team hard work.
Keep it up
Cheers

Loveee this place! We’re from Sydney and the food was incredible - an excellent experience in Canberra. Buzzing, trendy and delicious food. Also, Stu the waiter was super busy with his area but provided excellent and friendly service to ALL his patrons and was what made the place exceptional. 5 stars for restaurant. Extra star for Stu’s service.

This is a great restaurant - ignore the semi-industrial decor, the food is just wonderful. We can recommend the "Just Feed Me" option, and let the chef decide what dishes to serve you, as that gives a good range, without you having to choose. The wine list is limited, but has some excellent wines from the district. It pays to book, as the queues can get quite long! Our only gripe was, we were seated at our table and then ignored for 20 minutes, not even taking a drinks order. When i finally attracted someones attention, they apologised profusely, and gave us our bottle of wine for free to compensate. That's what makes a great restaurant. Highly recommended

Immaculate food, fantastic service. Would come back here for the pork buns every day if I could! We did the Feed Me Menu. So much value we nearly couldn't finish it. King fish sashimi was another highlight.
J. W.
We had the “Just feed me” menu and the food was excellent. The kimchi and oyster pancakes, and the bao were my favourite. Service was a bit slow with a huge gap between some courses. One of the dishes never came out (the egg plant) but the staff were helpful in replacing that with a dessert instead.
J. H.
It's very good. I'm struggling to come up with anything more descriptive and witty because I'm so full of delicious food. If you want to end up happy, well fed, and in a deep food coma, then stop by this place. Six out of five stars.
V. G.
I would strongly recommend their “Feed me” menu.

Went there for my 21st. The food came really quickly and the service was great! We had the banquet and the pork buns are so nice. The cocktails are really good and the servers are very knowledgeable about each cocktail. The banquet is also vengab friendly which is a major plus for my vegan family!

Absolutely incredible food, shoutout to the octopus and the kingfish - both are mind-blowing. And a further shoutout to Ella who was super attentive and informative. Some of the best food, drink and service in civic

Amazing Japanese fusion food and vibes. Highly recommend their king prawn fried rice and prawn chicken Dumplings. It was paired with great selection of drinks and great 80s-90s classic hits. Service, vibes and food was great.

The food is delicious here. I throughly enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and the service was on point. I would highly recommend checking out this funky restaurant.

She wasn’t our waitress, but Edie (like edamame?) was absolutely lovely and the food was excellent!! Would come back to Canberra just for her 💛

Great food and perfect service. Ayush our barman/ waiter was amazing. Would highly recommend and will return. Thanks guys.

Highly recommended. I have been here twice in the last month. Both times having the Luxe menu. Great when you don't want to decide and try a few things. Food was delicious and fast. Service was is at a very high standard with staff being available at all times. The meal was great and all the choices were full of flavour. Price is also very reasonable for the quality of food/produce .Will make this a regular for sure.

Great food that meet a range of dietry requirements. Loved the king fish and the eggplant was amazing!! Some great cocktails but served with just a little too much ice compared to drink ratio. Otherwise, a lovely night out 😊

The food came out promptly and was so delicious! The staff were incredible, and our server, Stuart, was friendly, knowledgeable and was extremely accommodating. The miso eggplant is truly amazing, highly recommend. Thank you Akiba for a perfect dinner! Thank you, Akiba, for an amazing meal this week! It is so lovely to be greeted and served by individuals who obviously enjoy what they are doing and share that joy with us! Thank you, Pema! And the food is scrumptious! Well done, and keep up the awesome work because we'll be back!

Akiba is always a great experience. Absolutely delicious food at totally reasonable prices with friendly service on top.
Do yourself a favour and make a booking or even just pop down and they'll always do their best to accommodate you.
I'd like to suggest dishes but everything I've had there is brilliant. Honestly. Just do it.
