This was our first fancy meal after lockdown for our anniversary. The staff were amazing and the food was delicious. We had an awesome time!

Explore Canberra’s food industry, and Aubergine was top on the list, so did not waste my 2 days trip down to the capital, but surprisingly Aubergine is one of the best restaurant I’ve tried. Food was exceptional, the restaurant’s interior was so moody covered with black colour which makes it an intimate place for dining.

Just a little bit too much! Of everything except the wine! This is why these set menus have gone out the window in Sydney - we had to knock back the lamb and the pudding! And the premium wine selection for $130 seemed very pricey to me for the very small volumes poured! Very knowledgeable wine waiter - certainly could talk the talk! Overall, too much food and too little wine! Would I come back? Probably not unless something changes dramatically.

Lovely dining experience with great food and great service staff. The venue was beautiful with relaxing ambiance.

Overall a great meal but some inconsistencies in taste. The amuses bouches were delicious as were the first two main courses. The third and fourth main courses were pretty bland which was surprising after the first ones. The dessert was delicious. Cater well for vegans. Service was friendly but missing something eg empty wine glasses with no one asking if we'd like another.

We had one of the best dining experiences at Aubergine. Their 5-course dining with wine paring took us through fine culinary arts.
Each dish was fantastic and continued to surprise us. They made us wonder how they were prepared, because they were all ingredients we knew about, creating flavours we did not know about.
Wine pairing took out the stress of having to choose from their exceptionally extensive wine book. For each course, the sommelier brought us not just the wine but also story behind them, and detailed explanation on where the wine came from, the producers, and tasting notes. It felt like a cellar door for wineries around the world and we are glad he was so thorough.
The promise is five course menu, but in reality if you account for two types of canape served before the first main and one additional petit four served after the desert, it felt more like an 8 course.
Already looking forward to return on our next occasion.

Beautiful settings, well positioned tables that make it really intimate for a romantic dinner. My wife and I very much enjoyed our dinner, the food was absolutely divine. The staff are all very professional and knowledgeable. Definitely worth trying out.

Have dined here a few times over the past few years. Always a delight, and still getting better. Celeriac broth was the highlight from the last visit. Extensive wine list.

Lovely food in a relaxed setting. Would have been excellent if I could select from an a la carte menu. Degustation always seems to take forever. Just my personal preference

Overall: Quality, cozy restaurant that is one of Canberra's finest, perfect for a special occasion.
We had a farewell dinner with a table of 4 here on a weeknight.
Liked: Food was of quality and provided an experience of many varying tastes and flavours. The spanner crab entree was the highlight, presenting 5 flavours consecutively in your mouth. The dishes presented very nicely.
Service was prompt, professional and of a good standard. The atmosphere was classy and of quality.
Improvement: Desserts were not consistent across the board. The toasted meringue was too sweet and over powering which let down the whole dish.
The staff did come across as "rushed" at times which is somewhat understandable as it was a full house but took away from the experience.
The decor in the restaurant didn't fully live up to its top ranking.

Absolutely amazing - best fine dining experience I've ever had. I took my partner here for his birthday and he very much felt the same way.
The food was exquisite and so different - it wasn't just a range of classic flavours you've all tried before. All the meals really made you think.
We had the standard wine pairing with the 5-course menu and it was expertly paired, especially for the seafood and dessert. The pinot noir was delicious but I wouldn't necessarily say it was the best pairing for the chicken (which was also delicious).
The waiting staff were well trained and the sommelier was very knowledgeable.
The ambient music was a little too upbeat and bassy at times, making it hard to hear the waiter as she explained the dishes. Some smooth jazz would have maybe been more appropriate.
All in all, Aubergine upheld it's reputation as one of, if not the, best fine dining restaurants in the ACT.
Thank you for a lovely night!

Excellent Food and service! Highly recommended.

Can't contain my appreciation and approval of this restaurant. Dimly lit and space only fits a small number of tables. We started at 7:30 for a two hour service.
You can pick from a small menu for your four course meal which covers all meat varieties. We were able to try half the menu and you really can't go wrong. I was quite fond of my chicken dish (very moist) and tender blade steak.
If you like chocolate, the dark chocolate moelleux with citrus, was amazing. My partner preferred the coconut and black sesame tart.
Overall, a great place and worth trying the spectacular food.

The way the chef makes various elements come together to form one delicious dish is a fascinating science in itself. Service from our waitress was faultless, and with exception of butter being cold, food was spectacular, as was the Riesling recommendation.
Expect to dine for 4hrs, so choose your dinner company wisely.
Better than Bennelong.
N.
What a very high standard of food and service this restaurant sets. Had the 4 course degustation and every course was perfectly presented, plus tasted exceptional. Also the time the sommelier spent with us explaining the food & wine was greatly appreciated
J. W.
We had our engagement dinner here. It was an extraordinary arrangement of food and wine all balanced in flavour, quantity and quality. Caitlin was a fantastic guide through our journey providing a lovely personal experience, and heaps of hilarious banter. Couldn’t have asked for a better night, thanks to all both in front and behind the scenes for making it all happen.

The gem of Canberra. Aubergine gave a 10/10 experience for taste, venue, wine and service.
The external of this resturant is beautiful and gets better when you walk in, the colours and decor chosen all work together and add to the experience of this resturant.
The servers from the start were amazing. They moved our party to more comfortable seating which was fantastic for us and just stayed bubbly and personable during the whole experience
Any question we had about cuts of meat, source locations of ingredients or requests for off menu items were met with enthusiasm and they really demonstrated a depth of knowledge about everything that was served.
We had the pleasure of having two sommeliers serving us matching wines throughout the meal. They gave the full profile of the wines and why they are matched with each dish. They served some very interesting wine pairings, but like everything else about the night it just worked perfectly.
The flavour profiles of each dish demonstrated the exceptional knowledge of the chefs and everything was cooked to a level not many places can match.
I highly recommend this resturant for a celebratory or fun night out with friends, or a romantic outing.

The best restaurant in Canberra. Always have the best starter, all the courses are nice and delicate, love their dessert. Despite its a classy restaurant, I try to make up reasons to go there every fortnight.
T. N.
Perfection! A top notch restaurant. Everything was excellent - the quality of food, wine, service and ambiance were really high. I cannot fault it and I will be back again when I am in Canberra.
J. K.
We had dinner for our wedding anniversary and every course was just amazing.
R. G.
Fantastic experience at Aubergine - both food and service were exceptional. The ambience was fantastic with eclectic, yet suited music to the occasion. The sommelier was extremely knowledgeable, and his choices for wine pairings perfectly suited each course. Food was delectable and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish.
D. E.
Superb food, great atmosphere, friendly staff
G. B.
Top rated restaurant in Canberra. Ambience is good and quiet enough to have your own conversation at the table without yelling. Food is amazing, wine and beer selection are consummate to the food and the sommelier knows his product. The staff are very attentive and knowledgeable about the food, as you would expect. There has been nothing that has disappointed. The menu is four course, with optional extras available should you choose, and they cater to varied tastes and requirements. But it was my birthday so can’t complain at all about the service.
Z. D.
Degustation menu for a special occasion ... Highly recommended. The food was wonderful, and the staff were friendly and attentive.
N. D.
Amazing experience. The place has a quiet, cosy ambience. We thoroughly enjoyed the various courses of delectable dishes done to perfection and the wide selection of wines. Must also commend the very courteous & knowledgeable staff who patiently detailed each course and wine paring. Loved it.

Excellent food. One of Canberra's best fine dining if not the best
J. O.
Dining here is an absolutely divine experience. The five course dinner menu is perfect. The menu is fresh and interesting, they cater for all your dietary needs, and the wine list is extensive and excellent. Highly recommended for a special occasion. It's not cheap but it's worth every cent!
J. A.
Absolutely amazing restaurant. The food is of the highest possible standard. I could eat here forever. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and their professionalism is of the same standard as the food. The wine matching with the food was perfect. Our whole dining experience was next level and we can't wait to come back.
A. W.
Exceptional food, and lovely wine, but it is no doubt overpriced. Nice atmosphere, and very good service. For Canberra's no. 1 restaurant, I enjoyed the experience, but I really can't justify the price so much higher than Canberra's other 'hatted' restaurants.
J. P.
It was a brilliant experience. Really amazing ambience, delicious cuisine right from the entrees yo the desserts. It was a really beautiful experience. All of the staff were simply excellent from start to finish. It is a perfect place for a date night. A must visit.
T. M.
Pure style and panache. Calm, knowledgeable staff, impeccable food and a wine selection that keeps a fussy buff busy. I like the degustation menu with wines ( you can choose to have without wine) Takes all the pressure off having to decide. I have eaten there several times and it was both seamless and exquisite. On the downside, it is possibly too immaculate, in that it could lack personality - however, if you have good company and want to be 100% sure the restaurant is world class and flawless - you have it here. They offer an alchemical dessert ( check if its on) with a steaming vanilla crunch ... if its on the menu ORDER IT! Even to experience the amazement a theatrical transformation. Frankly, its expensive and worth it every time. Perfect for milestone events and birthdays - as you will not regret the spurge.

Fantastic time at Aubergine tonight!
First and foremost, whoever came up with the wine list is a genius. Super interesting and delicious wines from the most unexpected of places! They complimented the food brilliantly. I've eaten in some top restaurants from around the world and that wine list would rival any of the places I've been. On top of that, the service was fantastic. We had a great waiter, black haired bloke pouring the wine, and you could tell he knew his stuff and had done his homework! His explanation of the wines before we drank them just made the experience all the better, you guys have a real gem there!
The food was excellent. The timing of the food coming out was at the perfect pace. Not too fast, not too slow, which meant my two other friends and I didn't get full too quickly, but weren't kept waiting.
The parmesan fritters were a little average, more something you'd get in a normal local restaurant, but the balance of textures in the meal was great, I'd just say that a little less parmesan would have allowed other flavours to come out. I'm all for parmesan, but it was a little overpowering.
The beetroot dish, on the other hand, was fantastic. It was incredibly well balanced and had everything: salt, fat, acidity, and even a little spice. The flavours were vibrant and I really enjoyed it. One of the best dishes of the night.
The tuna was good, but nothing to brag about. I think the onions should have played a greater role in the dish to balance out the tuna, but in general it tasted good and I enjoyed it.
The next fish dish was ok, but again, nothing to brag about. The muscle sauce was fantastic and I think it worked well, but maybe it wasn't the right fish for the dish? Again, I still enjoyed it.
I can't remember too much of the other dishes, maybe that's when the wine kicked in, but the real standout I do remember was the ribeye. It was just how I like it cooked and the leek and other components worked in complete unison. The herb sauce (I think it was a little minty?) brought me back to my childhood of roast dinners with a mint sauce, and I really enjoyed that. Absolutely the standout dish of the night!
I wasn't too keen on the dessert and didn't finish it, but I think it was a very interesting combination that could be enjoyed by many, so take that with a grain of salt.
In general, I had a fantastic meal. The chef showed a real mastery of flavour combinations and texture. He really does know his stuff and it shows. I've pointed out a few issues, but really they're minor and didn't impede on my experience of the night at all, and I remember having no complaints of the rest of the dishes, they were all perfectly executed. If anything, I'm the inexperienced one and I just didn't quite 'get' all of the components of the dishes due to having a less experienced palate. Still, I know a great night out when I see it, and that is what I experienced tonight.
Good job guys, that was a real show!

Fabulous flavours and pairing wines to explore your taste buds ❤🍷🥂
A. N.
A very lovely and intimate atmosphere with a high standard of service. Highly recommend complementing the food with the premium wine range you won't be disappointed.
E. M.
As always, the best fine dining cuisine, exceptional wine to match and service to equal both 🙏🏽 another amazing experience...
K. G.
Maybe fine dining isn't for me personally but I had to go and devour another meal after leaving Aubergine. The portions were just too small for the price. The food was however delicious and the interior was nice. It was more of an experience than something I'd do again. Good for special occasions.
V. T.
Thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience at Aubergine. I (frustratingly) have many dietary requirements at the moment, and was so appreciative that the chefs were able to cater them! The food was amazing. Both my partner and I also loved the wine pairings, and the staffs knowledge & enthusiasm for food & wine. Definitely recommend dining at Aubergine for a special occasion.
P. C.
Disappointing. This is our second time here and we were looking forward to the five course menu. Yet there was something missing to make this the two hat standard we expected... the duck was okay, the steak was okay, the tuna was okay. Highlights were the desert which was delicious and the duck sausage roll was also special. Another positive was the superb wine advice from the French sommelier. As a package though, we found the food was overall a little bland, which surprised us. Perhaps if we had gone with more wine pairings to enhance flavours it would have been better? That said, I believe the food should stand alone.

Aubergine revisited.
Well, seven years between visits and some things haven't changed, whilst others have.
The venue is nice and the staff are great.
The food however, has lost any standout qualities.
Aspects of each of the dishes we ordered were competent but as a whole each dish failed to impress.
We are ,after all, dining at an award winning 2 hat establishment.
With the abundance of quality restaurants in Canberra, we felt Aubergine really didn't excite anymore.
A. S.
Excellent meal at Aubergine. Every dish was a delight and the matched wines were a perfect accompaniment.
The service was well paced and I never felt like they were rushing me for the next sitting. The sommelier was knowledgeable and friendly, taking to time to explain the wine choices.
The only small complaint was the room was a little hot, maybe the A/C wasn’t coping with the heat wave weather that well.
D. G.
Absolutely amazing food, atmosphere and staff. I had requested something a little out of the ordinary and they delivered. Aubergine staff provided a stunning photo of Gerard Depardieu (which my wife got to keep!!!) We were celebrating an anniversary and it made the night that much more special, many laughs were had. Great work Aubergine!!!
L. W.
I took 3 people along with me for a really beautiful dinner that was a tasting menu. Lowly lit (really flattering lighting) and beautiful service. Expensive yes but I will say it was memorable and I'm glad we went.
G. G.
This was a lovely dinner experience and Lucas was very impressive with his exceptional knowledge of the wines, not only the characteristics but the vineyard region, history, techniques etc!!!
T. Y. L.
Excellent experience here with the wine paired 4 course menu. Very knowledgeable staff and dishes were creative and delicious. Chefs here seem to do particularly well with seafood. I'd heard early reviews when they first opened of less than perfect service - but this certainly had changed when we visited.
J. E.
Great food. Amazingly knowledgable sommelier, all the wine pairings were great and the background provided for each wine was interesting.
I'm happy I had the chance to try this place. If you go to one restaurant in Canberra this is it.
H. A.
the best meal I've ever eaten. amazing food that had us giggling, expertly prepared and presented within a comfortable and understated ambiance.
wonderful service as well.the staff is good and well mannered.
M. K.
Outstanding Experience. We visited for a date night on a trip to Canberra just before Christmas. Everything from the moment we walked in to the moment we left was outstanding. The staff are friendly and attentive without being annoying and the food is fresh, absolutely delicious and a work of art to look at. We didn't drink alcohol on this occasion however the bubbly sommelier seemed to keep big smiles of faces around the restaurant! For $95 a head this restaurant is great value for those who enjoy the finer things in life. Restaurants like this in other capital cities would charge almost double that for the same experience. Well done Aubergine. We will be back!
W. J.
Went there last week for anniversary celebration, the food is really good, friendliest service and great atmosphere.
C. S.
Absolutely loved this place, the food, the staff and the wine. And have I mentioned the food yet!!!!
We decided to try this place after seeing it had won a couple of awards and after dining here, the judges have got it right. The food is an absolute delight and a pleasant surprise in the taste buds. Staff are friendly, always ready and nearby and the wine selection is superb.
Would def recommend!
N. H.
Fantastic food and amazing service.
Went to Aubergine for a family dinner and was greeted by pleasant and delightfully helpful staff. Across our table we ordered a variety of options from the menu and every option we received was both beautiful to look at and tasted amazing.
The atmosphere was nice and it got a little loud as the evening progressed but never out of hand.
l. d.
Went here for my mothers birthday it was a great experience, the staff provided a great service that made the experience very pleasant. The food is exceptional and our group of 10 all really enjoyed it from entree to dessert. Great venue for a special occasion!
T. M.
One of two Canberra restaurants to earn two chefs hats from the SMH/Age food guides. Expensive. Food is very good and the wine list and wine service are quite extraordinary. We've visited for two significant birthday celebrations in the past few years and been most impressed with the experience. Worth it for a special occasion.
M. W.
Great food. Great service. Staff super friendly. A very accessible menu coming from a very fussy eater! The chicken and leek with Bok Choi was the highlight for me. Would recommend and am already planning a return trip.
T. (. P. C.
After visiting Aubergine twice I have mixed feelings about it. While the service and food are undeniably terrific, I feel the second time the "wow" factor was lacking for the $180 per head price point.
One of the dishes was very fishy, for me I enjoy new interesting flavors but I could imagine some people really not liking such a raw fishy flavor (note that I am not referring to old fish, just a very strong natural fish flavor).
The service and food are definitely 5 star I would of just expected some more "wow" factor for the price. Perhaps the very busy evening affected this "wow" factor though because the first time definitely had it.
A. S.
I’ll keep searching, however I’m not sure food and wine get better than this? A most deserving regular recipient of Canberra’s best restaurant. My wife and I went for our anniversary and chose the degustation + premium wine package and it was flawless. Go ahead, make a booking and try this for yourself
A. F.
The best restaurant in Canberra. The food was amazing, service was brilliant and the wine (and sommeliers wine knowledge) was like nothing else I have experienced in Canberra. We haven't had the chance to go out much lately due to a new addition to the family, and we are so glad we went to Aubergine with the first opportunity we had to go out in months.
g. t.
We booked a table here as we were traveling through & wanted to try the 'SMH Best Regional Restaurant of 2013'. Unlike most regional restaurants typically set amongst lush countryside, this establishment is located in neighborhood shopping area. The interiors were simple and unobtrusive.
Staff were very courteous & informed - always a good thing as C & I love asking questions about our meal.
The real standout though was the food. Each dish was elegant, subtle & deftly balanced. Flavours were delicately crafted to unfold slowly as your savoured your meal - definitely best enjoyed leisurely with a great glass of wine & good conversation.
Admittedly, if I was walking past this unassuming establishment with no knowledge of its merit, I might have passed it by. I am however, very glad that wasn't the case! Another lesson in not judging a book by its cover.
A.
The service is excellent and the dishes are all very unique, they all looked fantastic and well presented but compared to other top Canberran restaurants we both felt the food was missing the wow factor from a flavour perspective. Given the price here is quite a bit more than others, it's a disappointment. The desert and the cheese being the exception, which were superb. Whilst I'd suggest people definitely try it for them selves there are others I'd suggest first.
s. p.
Great attentive staff, who explain the food and wine very well. The food was just a little too rich for my liking, great quality but just too rich. Other than that, very good.
p.
I think that was possibly the best meal i've ever eaten. amazing food that had us giggling, expertly prepared and presented within a comfortable and understated ambiance.
wonderful service as well.
J. M.
Was very cheerful with our dining experience. The meals was timely, cooked amazingly and very filling. Environment was calming yet colorful and The team were so lovely and accomodating.
S. H.
A decadent experience. I a relaxing atmosphere, with exquisitely presented four course meal, with chef added small aperitif was first class. The service was exceptional, we were very well cared for, and the sparkling water never stopped. A restaurant not to be missed out on,for any food interested person's list.
R. M.
Just a truly lovely experience - wonderful food, wonderful servicr
L. M.
Great Christmas fixed menu. Really great
P. L.
Excellent food, top service, the matching premium wines were amazing as was the explanation of each wine by the highly professional French wait staff. A great dining experience.
D. P.
Dinner here was a lovely experience. The food was very tasty, the staff were really friendly and the atmosphere was great.
D. S.
From the moment the waitstaff opened the door for you on approaching the restuarant, this was a fantastic experience. The menu was varied, with the biggest problem of the night being choosing what to have. The wine list was extensive, with the waiter knowledgable and able to recommend wines and side dishes to match all diners.
The food itself was nothing short of astounding, and in serving sizes sufficient that everyone left the table satisfied but not groaning, something of a rarity in some fine dining establishments.
Ambience was excellent, with a fantastic atmosphere. As noted in other reviewa, this is not a restuarant for a crowd, this is a restuarant for an intimate dinner for two or four.
Full marks for the entire experience
J. D.
The best fine dining in Canberra. Amazingly consistent over years. Well done
R. P.
Food was amazing. Price was expected. Wine was to spot on with the food. I recommend getting the wine assortment to suite food. Spot on. Only criticism is it was to bright in the restaurant. Need to dim the lights a fraction to get the right mood.
R. I.
Love aubergine. Very tasty ever changing menu. The matched wines are great. Its also the little thing like the amuse Bouche before your entre. When you get up they reset your napkin. Your glass is always topped up if you buy a bottle.
P. H.
Aubergine is certainly not a cheap it, but it is well worth the price. Every meal is an absolute masterpiece, and even the weakest dishes are miles ahead of anything else. Friendly staff and smooth ambience are also part of the package. Treat yourself, and maybe a partner with you.
D. L.
Our daughter's 21st birthday and what a great treat to celebrate it at Aubergine after quite a hiatus. So happy to see the ship still under the brilliant helm of owner/chef Ben Willis with Floor Manager, Josh and his most attentive, talented and friendly staff delivering a superb array of innovative, eye-catching and deliciously prepared dishes from a very busy kitchen to make our night most memorable. Many thanks to all concerned at this very fine establishment.
K. C. (.
Service was impeccable.
Atmosphere adult and great for conversation, relaxed.
Food amazing and matching wines perfect
Definitely to return
