Comments of Buvette Bistro & Wine Bar

A cute place for high tea located within Hotel Realm.
Buvette offers a set menu. The food is brought out in stands and there’s a piece of each item allocated to each person. The stand has a selection of savoury and sweet items and you can order anything off their tea and coffee menu. Overall pretty good but I personally prefer the Hyatt’s high tea for the wider selection of food.

This restaurant was the highlight of our trip. I can't rate this high enough. The service was top notch, and everyone made us feel so welcome. There was a small mix up with our reservation, but they got us a great table on Saturday night. The venue is classic and beautifully done. But the food was the knockout. So much flavour, and beautifully presented. We left very happy and merry! Would highly recommend.

Great coffees, but food average. Breakfast bowl, tofu was hard and dry. Tomatoes hard and too much to fill up bowl. Beans hard and not good flavour. Burned toast of salmon/poached eggs.
Lots of staff but not quick to take orders.

We walked in without a booking but service was spot on.
Fine dining experience is wonderful with great wine suggestions. The limited special waygu menu was amazing~

Walked in on Saturday night without booking. Asked to wait while they checked and 5 mins later got the table.
Service was initially good and quick but progressive slowing down towards the night - probably understaffed. This is because finished plates weren’t cleaned on time, wine wasn’t refilled or being asked if I would like to order new drinks.
Ordered beef tartare (and liver pate, but this never arrived/made it to the order - waitress might’ve misheard), beef ribs bourguignon, steak and bitter chocolate fondant.
Beef tartare was average and would perhaps order something else, texture of the beef was nice but lack of flavour. Egg yolk was on a runnier side (watery).
Beef ribs bourguignon was not quite bourguignon (not a stew) but beef ribs were tender and nice flavour. The beef ribs comes with 3 pieces of snails/escargot. The escargot weren’t the best - tasted a bit sandy/muddy. Based on this, I wouldn’t recommend the snails too.
Steak was okay too - cafe de Paris on top of the steak was too thick and too cold so it doesn’t melt enough. Meat however was cooked perfectly and enough size.
Dessert probably one of the best - goat ice cream was a delight with berries to cut through the richness of the dessert.
Wine is on a steeper side but extensive list to suits everyone.

Buvette bistro & wine bar (located inside Hotel Realm, Barton), is easily one of my favourite restaurant options in Canberra. The French cuisine on offer is sensational-each dish executed well, showcasing the culinary skills of the kitchen team, headed by Fabien & Jun.
The fit out is great-Buvette oozes class and sophistication. Couple this this with exceptional customer service (in particular from Maria, Steve & Lewis) and you have the perfect space to celebrate special occasions-the whole team leave a lasting impression.
On to the food-the beef tartare, tuna nicoise salad & chicken liver parfait are my go to dishes, however, I also love the pan fried salmon and wagyu beef. The food is that good, you’ll want to try the whole menu. I highly recommend this establishment; it’s a culinary delight!

Nice and cosy atmosphere. Service is attentive. The presentation of the food looks good. Somehow undercooked my lamb but was replaced with good attitude. Also got compensated with free dessert. Overall good experience.

Delicious French dishes, beautiful presentation and great service!

Fantastic buffet breakfast selections. Fresh and great taste. Highly recommended for a long leisurely breakfast after a gym session!
A. B.
Had a wonderful night there last night. Food was fresh, service was excellent. We will be back.
L. B.
Absolutely incredible meal. Beautiful space. Could not recommend more.

Asian/ Modern French share plates. Flavours were light and delicious and left us wanting to try more.
Romantic ambience for couples and tables of four.
Staff were attentive and thoughtful- we will return!

Came here for my birthday dinner and could not recommend it enough, the food was incredible, perfectly cooked and presented with amazing flavours. The staff were attentive and friendly, making sure we were happy and enjoyed our meals. Honestly deserves more than 5 stars!
P. K.
Superb menu, wines and service. Staff were exceptionally helpful and attentive. The subtle background music was perfect.

Beautifully decorated creating a warm and intimate atmosphere. The food was great with service to match. They have a great reaonably priced fast lunch menu so perfect for that quick midweek lunch with good friend.

Lovely high tea. Mango mousse and Napoleon tea are the highlight. Table setting might be a little tight.

5 of us celebrated a special milestone birthday dinner. Every dish was delicious, flavoursome. Service was friendly, exceptional. Setting was lovely. 1 guest is an 85yo who thoroughly enjoyed her duck main (and she can't tolerate food that is too rich). The remaining 4 of us shared entree of scallops, fresh prawns and octopus / chorizo. Then we had mains of duck, pork belly, lamb shoulder pasta and beef short rib. We shared sides of raddicchio and fries. We finished off with bombe alaska and creme brulee each shared between 2. Every dish was sensational, well portioned, wonderful flavours, melt in your mouth. All dishes were standouts. Service, particularly from our young waitress, was exceptional. Yes it's pricey, but it's quality and it was a special occasion. Thankyou Buvette.
A. K.
Delightful and attentive staff. A bit on the pricey side, but I thoroughly enjoy my dining experience here every time. Tip: Nicoise salad and Bouillabaisse. Both have been on the menu forever but have been slightly altered over time so it's always a new experience.

It's an expensive restaurant. Those on our table who eat meat and seafood were very satisfied. On the other hand, there are precisely 4 dishes for vegetarians ( one of which wasn't available) and they make them as either entree or main. Food was acceptable, not outstanding (which I'd expect for the prices charged). The wine list is extensive, featuring wines from around Australia and abroad. Service is ad-hoc. Staff were training a waitress on a Saturday night, ignoring our table in the process. Mediocre experience.

Lunch on a Friday. Great place for lunch with friends or colleagues. Small menu but quick and handy for lunch during the week! Food was pretty good. Lovely decor and friendly table service. Pretty location. Plenty of room. After lunch we went outside and had a mocktail in the garden! Pay parking under building.
D. V.
Food was great, only complain was that steak was served too thin and bug rather than smaller and chunkier for better flavor. Overall decoration is elegant and romantic, but the team was extremely hectic, sometimes adding a strange vibe to the dining experience.
D. F.
A very nice modern French restaurant with beautiful meals, I have been to France and there are differences in menus. Meal sizes were just right for both of us, it's not cheap, has a good ambiance and we would dine there again. I recommend you try it yourself.

A nice looking restaurant. Since the hotel chain has started offering "free" breakfast with most hotel stays, it isn't as good as it used to be in my experience. With coffee from the machine included, actual properly made coffee is at an extra cost which is disappointing for a 5 star hotel. I remember before offering the free breakfast, it was much better and the barista made coffee and hot chocolates were included. I can't think of any other 5 star hotel I've been at with barrista coffee not included in the buffet.

I had a romantic French dinner here.
But the best thing about this place is the buffet breakfast.
I was literally daydreaming about it for days after. I still do.
The highlight of my Canberra weekend away was this buffet breakkie.
P. S.
I thought it would be good but it was great. Food was of the highest quality -some of the best I've had in Canberra (where food is generally of v high quality). The boulliabaise was as good as any I had in France. Wonderful. Thanks
L. S.
Ugly Lego building from the outside but beautiful brunch venue on the international hotel model from the inside gliding gracefully into an attractive bar on one side and the Realm Hotel proper on the other. Excellent staff, generous.cafeteria style breakfast, lots of small seating spaces on the streets idea shaded by a thoughtful collection of vegetation. Too crowded at drinkies in late afternoon by DFAT young things.

Buvette has opted for quality over quantity . Located in the ground floor of the Hotel Realm, we were greeted and asked our hotel room number. We were then asked if we had visited before. After we answered no, the waiter then showed us what was where - extraordinary for a breakfast buffet.
There was a small selection of pastries, but what was on offer was delicious. Allergies were also catered for as there was gluten free breads and cakes on offer as well as soy milk. A small but varied selection of teas was available, along with the staple variety of juices and machine coffee. Barista made coffees were available on request. The chilled section was home to a number of small pots of yoghurt, plates of fruit and also a small antipasto selection.
The obligatory cooked buffet - rather than leathery bacon, shrivelled sausages and watery eggs, we were offered flame grilled bacon, moist sausages, gourmet hash browns, tasty mushrooms, and a choice of poached eggs and creamy scrambled eggs. That said, I must admit that while freely available poached eggs was refreshing for a buffet, they were kept in a La Creuset and unfortunately were little more than a semi hard boiled egg.
Pricing for the hot and cold buffet (as at April 2016) was reasonable and comparable to other hotel breakfast buffets at $35/person.
Highly recommended, but get there early to avoid disappointment at not getting a table as it services the Hotel Realm, Burbury Hotel amd Little National Hotel

Clean, gd selection for breakfast, staff just ok polite. Easy to understand breakfast system. Not more stars, bc I received an average service, and explanations, when I asked questions or had an issue. Had break for a few days, while accomodated at a hotel close by.

Excellent service; staff friendly, efficient and professional. Lovely calming ambiance with all space well utilised. Of course, the food is exquisite - a must visit restaurant for anyone in Canberra.
A. I.
Simply delicious. Tender meats and crunchy potato chips. Dessert menu is nice but perhaps a touch ordinary. A high level of service.
J. L.
Well-presented, good quality food.

Love this place. Great for after work drinks, something tasty for dinner for 1 or even a group. Chilled and welcoming. Good seating, heaters and bar staff
D. A.

S. G.
Most delicious brunch, accompanied with a delightful cosmopolitan cocktail and finished off with a long black. Service was perfect
R. W.
Came for the breakfast buffet. Professional service staff. Really good quality breakfast options. Best DIY muesli I've had anywhere.
R. B.
Excellent service and immaculate setting. The food is a little pricy and the menu is not huge but the dishes are delicious.
I. Z.
not a French restaurant at all...buger, pizza...very few choices on menu...more like AUS food...talking about service it was almost 100% self service except you dont cook yourself...you need to find waiter somehow to clean dirty table and carry dishes from reception...so dont quite understand why people said good service...pizza was good..duck was very salty and hard and dry
S. G.
The brunch set menu is always delish. Add bottomless mimosas for a great time with the girls 😁
A. R.
Excellent attempt at a French bistro. Sometimes top grade. Sometimes just good. Steak frites is the go, or duck confit.
E. N. S.
High tea not worth the price we paid
But good service
A. R.
Not as good as it should be for a breakfast. Poached eggs were hardboiled. Coffee mediocre. No decent scenery.
F. P.

C. R.
A bit pricey for breakfast ($35 pp) but food was delicious, venue was beautifully set up and great customer service.
B. B.
Breakfast was beautiful, but the GF bread might be tolerable as extreme drought fodder.
R. F.
It’s on the edge of French but a little too pricey for the quality of food. Good service and wine list
N. M.
Good food but close way too early and bar attached next door closes 11 pm even with many patrons
w. m.
Friday night was very busy, there are refurbs atm so hardly any seating. Probably better once refurb is finished
A. L.
Very attentive service, which at this price point is what you would want, excellent food, and very nice wine. 😊

S. S.
Best food and service. Always happy and impressed when I’m there!
L. B.
Excellent food, tasty and well presented. Very good service and friendly staff.
D. C.
Not really getting a bistro and wine bar feel, the food was a little bland and it all felt a bit contrived - on the other hand they have a good wine selection and attentive service.
A. S.
Nice food, great service, a bit expensive but so is everything else in the area

Taste of France

(Translated) It's classical French but with a modern lighter touch," Large wine list, with an emphasis on France and Australasia and promises some rare pleasures that can't be found anywhere else in Canberra. classic cocktails
Absolutely fantastic food and service, desserts are great.
A very good French restaurant, the variety of red wine is in a book, and the Fillet filet steak of Australian calf is the most tender part of the beef ridge, almost no fat. Desserts must be ordered. This dessert is recommended as Cardamam floating island. The surface is made of cokeed coconut and puff balls. The juice below is pineapple coconut milk. It is a luxurious French version of Guangdong dessert Yangzhi nectar. awesome.
