Great food, great wine and really great service! The views are amazing as well

Lovely dinner, great service and beautiful view over Canberra. Nice little touches to personalise for our anniversary dinner too. The restaurant is quite open to the kitchen, so you get a little more noise than other fine dining I've been to, but certainly nothing to detract from the experience. Will definitely go back, it was delicious and the view over sunset was so beautiful.
A.
Slightly overpriced but really good for a special fine dining experience. The view is absolutely lovely and the food is quite delicious. I had the vegetarian three course and was satisfied. The wine pairing added a beautiful charm to the food. The service was lovely and overall would recommend for once-in-a-while special experience!

Onred is at the top of the Red Hill lookout. So it probably has one of the best views a Canberra restaurant could have.
We had 5 course meal with wine pairing. The photos are the second course Kingfish and the fourth main duck. The food was really average... I'd have expected the food to be exceptional, but it was just average and they were not even served warm-hot for the main dish.
Also the first course was small baguette stick so it didn't really feel like a 5 course..
I tried once and that was it. I wouldn't go back unless really have to go.

Amazing place, great location and views of Canberra but the best and absolutely perfect was the food we were served for dinner. I have never had anything so well presented and beautifully prepared, tasting divine! ❤️ The Chef is one of the Gordon Ramsay's apprentices.

Amazing food, stunning presentation, gorgeous flavours, beautiful views. $300 for 2, including wine and oysters. Price is what I would expect for the very high quality of food, ambience and views. Staff were a bit inattentive and was quite difficult to attract their attention -, perhaps not very experienced and just need a bit more training, but once I was able to attract someone's attention, the service was excellent. Aircon is a bit cold, so bring a light jacket. Definitely worth visiting at least once for a romantic dinner at sunset, with views over all of Canberra. Menu is a 4 course dinner with 3 options in each course, plus optional extras, such as oysters or sides. Wine list includes a lot of Canberra regionals. I went for the Italian Pino Grigio, which I found quite nice. Would definitely go back.
R. B.
Onred has a great location and friendly staff. It would benefit from a slightly better execution of the food which were good, but maybe not up to the standard of other fine dining options in Canberra. Also with such a great view it would be better if the windows had a clean so that it was easier to see.
M.
Fantastic views, average service, not great food. While the menu looked good, the food lacked in flavour and freshness. If I paid half of what they charged I'd still be looking to eat somewhere else.
C. D.
Food was better than the last time I went. Only one stand out dish - watermelon. Don't get the duck if you like crispy skin.
Neither dessert wowed me.
Clarify when you order wine. Requested half a bottle which is on their menu, but somehow it became a whole one. Don't feel like we drank it either because they don't leave the bottle on the table.
R. Y.
Great view from the top of the mountain. You can choose the dishes you like by yourself from the menu. Facility is a bit old but the restaurant has been opened over 10 years.
D. L.
I had dinner at Onred tonight. All of the food was delicious. The waiter was very polite and attentive, and the restaurant manager was too.
The menu is four courses, preceded by a small starter. Three mains followed with dessert for the final course.
Each of the four courses has three options to choose from, and these are quite varied.
There's also optional starters, and an optional cheese course to finish.
There's a wine menu, but I couldn't try anything from it tonight.
Finally, the view is quite pretty. There are few places like it that I'm aware of.
M. P.
the food was ok, when compared to similar restaurants in Canberra, the view was great but left us wanting/expecting more from the dinner.
L. C.
You simply must be joking OnRed Restaurant! We booked our dining at home three course meal a week ago, we called two times to check as the booking system was confused, once as late as yesterday afternoon, and we get a call this afternoon saying they can’t honour the offer (that they instructed us to pickup between 5.00 and 5.30 today!) as they have had their off licence cancelled, but would we like to come for dinner at 5.30 (kids and oldies hour). Surely with the road map you knew in advance? Surely you could have come up with another solution? Very, very disappointed😡
M. B.
The veiw was really good from the venue, I think this is one of the restaurant with best view in Canberra, evening view would be lovely. I had my morning coffee after my redhill circuit walk, but I should say was not happy with that, It was luke warm and the pricing was little bit high. After paying I expected the quality but not actually happy with it. I want to try dinner at this place coz the view would be lovely but can't say anything about food now would definately go once after lockdown is over.
f.
A good coffee, well attended milk and quick and friendly service. The mountain top has a European feel and the staff are happy and skilled. All covid safe too. Cycle there it's just the right breather.
S. C.
If you want to dine while taking in an awesome view of Canberra, Onred is THE place to be. An added bonus would be is to be there in time for sunset. The restaurant has a delightful ambience and the food was scrumptious. I would have given 5 stars if only they were attentive to the room temperature. As the evening went on, it became so cold that I had to put back my coat in the middle of dinner.
D. W.
Great view, best in Canberra actually, great staff. Just out of lockdown so can't expect the kitchen to be humming at 100% but overall a nice experience.
A. D.
Beautiful restaurant with beautiful views of the Canberra. The staff is very attentive and very nice. Only constructive feedback in that regard was that maybe too many different person were asking us the same questions about drinks and starters at the beginning..so it could be more coordinated. Food wise, I probably had one of the best beef dishes I've ever had, melting in the mouth, beautiful. I enjoyed all the dishes and dessert a bit less but more due to taste preference than cooking execution. Overall it was a good experience and I 'd recommend anyone to try Onred especially for a romantic occasion or intimate celebration.
A. M.
Food was absolutely sensational that we ordered .we were already pretty full by 5th course along with wines! service was welcoming and attentive
T. C.
Delicious! Two of use shared every meat option out of the lunch menu. Couldn't fault the food or the service
S. R.
Good food, good service, wine selection was reasonably priced, nice ambience.
Wednesday night is "date night" so 5 course set menu was available.
K. L.
The food was excellent. Fresh and beautifully presented. With many elements to each dish, (thanks Masterchef), it would have been good to be told a 'story' to explain them as they were served. For example, The red velvet cheesecake is wrapped in biscuit pieces and next to it the charcoal ice-cream is sitting on a bed of chocolate crumble. The sauces surrounding the dessert are a combination of vanilla bean and mango. The salted and caramelised popcorn adds a contrast to the sweetness of the cheesecake. Enjoy.
Some new cutlery would add to the sophistication of the experience.
The view over Canberra is stunning, particularly the transition into night.
D. G.
Great views and amazing food.
Been here few times but this is the best visit .
Had 5 course meal options and each course was well served. Everything was just perfect. We were so full by end of the night -all our guests had a great time, will be back again for sure and recommend to everyone. One of the best hidden places of canberra
B. J.
I have to be honest: my wife and I had OnRed's 5 course degustation (we've been twice previously) and, in the end, we were divided. My wife loved it, while I was a little disappointed. I also had the matching wines and they weren't exciting.
We booked the earlier sitting, plus we arrived a little earlier so that we could sit near the window.
So, go and try it, and love the good food and the wonderful view of a cold clear Canberra night.
H. Y.
Service can be better, a bit understaffed, but, they tried their best!
One of the waiters forgot the special menu 😂
Not sure whether everyone is buying the matching wine packages, however, always took a while to have our tap water refilled
Nice view!
The dishes are okay, sadly, the steaks are poorly done. We had three steaks, 2 of them well done.
R. R.
Service and view were great. Most of the food was good but not at the standard you would expect for the price. Fish was over cooked and the diced vegetables looked like they were from a frozen packet. Desserts were nice, the base of the chocolate mousse tart was so thick it was hard to break with a spoon. Also they need to chill their beer glasses. Infact I asked for no glass and was given 2 of 3 beers in a warm glass. Overall a bit disappointing but still a nice evening.
S. G.
Average service. One of the main reasons you come to this restaurant is to see the view but it was blurred by the dirty windows from the outside as it seems the outside of the windows haven’t been cleaned in MONTHS!!
N. C.
Absolutely amazing! The food options were so interesting and tasty - my partner and I went 50/50 on each others meal options so we could try more of the wonderful food! The staff were all very professional and kind, the atmosphere was perfect for a romantic dinner and it was a great temperature! Only tiny issue I had was being seated squished in beside a pillar - when there were at least 15 other tables empty (and not reserved) that could have been more comfortable. Other than that, it was a great experience!
E. C.
Best fine dining I’ve had in Canberra for a long time. Food was well portioned and had substance. A far cry from those trendy, gimmicky, Instagram inspired and under sized places. Each dish had layers and is not something you can easily put together at home. I was totally satisfied after the 5 courses meal, both in taste and in fullness. I’ll definitely visit again!
F. R.
Beautiful restaurant and views . We have been coming here from last 5 years and this restaurant never disappoints. It’s a perfect venue to hold event under skylight. We had our wedding back in 2010 and now the 10th anniversary. Service is full of kindness and they always know how to please customers. Food is always innovative and different -never disappointed us. Spacious free car park and better option than going in tight city roads struggling to get car park.
P.
We went for 5 course with wine. Epic food, excellent presentation. Felt like some of the dishes coming from “Masterchef” contestants. Canberra looks very nice from the top, specially at the night. Can’t wait to go again, so many more dishes to try. Strongly recommend to visit Canberra’s best Fine Dine on top
J. H.
The food was as good as the view from this lovely restaurant. The meals were delicious and beautifully presented. If I had one problem it was that the roast potatoes (which were amazing) and the vegetables came out when we had almost finished our meal. Our group of six friends thoroughly enjoyed our visit and all agreed to return in the future. Thank you very much.
l. o.
Thank you for making our CLASS Locksmiths Christmas dinner so enjoyable. We were a group 30 and we were all amazed at how efficiently and professionally our food and drinks were served to us by the fantastic staff. The food, the venue, the view and the service are all top class. .
K. C.
We arrived at 6.35 for a 6.45 sitting on a Tuesday night. We had a table at the windows with beautiful views over the city of Canberra. The wait staff from start to finish were excellent. We chose the four course meal with drinks package. There was sufficient choices to cater for both our needs across the four courses, my wife does not eat seafood. All dishes were very flavoursome and nicely plated. The staff knew we were there for our birthdays and our desserts reflected a birthday touch. Once all was done we also received an amazing complimentary cheese platter. This was absolutely beautiful and so very unexpected. We had a lovely evening.
A. H.
Amazing Views and Food. Exceptional Wine list
K. B.
I went with a large group and even though we had specified that I would require vegan options when I arrived the best they could do was a bowl of grilled vegetables. Quite disappointed. The view and atmosphere is amazing though.
O. “. H.
I held my wedding here. We had the 4 course menu, and everyone enjoyed it so much. Many of our guests said it was the best food they had ever had at a wedding. The red meats were done particularly well, and the vegetarian options were unique, as well as tasty.
The restaurant manager is a delight to work with, and was very accommodating, and helped us rearrange the tables when we realised on the morning of the wedding that we'd printed an incorrect table layout.
The view from the restaurant overlooking Canberra is wonderful at sunset or night time. I would completely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Canberra, or even to locals looking for a new experience.
M. W.
Great spot to come for a quality meal with a wide variety of cuisine options.
I especially loved the seafood prawn capacious with , .we also had 7 course menu with all the options abc the beef which was tender and just amazing.
They have everything on menu from oyesters, vegetables, salads, seafood, beef, chicken, vegan options and a generous dessert selection.
Lovely wine and champagne selection also! Will be back

Tonight I dined at On Red with my family. Having been very familiar with Canberra's top rated restaurants in the past, I can confidently state that the menu, service and execution are on par with that of Aubergine and Courgette.
From entry, the service was very friendly and courteous. The staff were flexible with meal choice which was very accommodating. The food was absolutely delicious, perfectly cooked.
I would highly recommend On Red for anyone's next dine out. If you have the chance, the Truffle Menu was amazing! I guarantee it will not disappoint. I'll be going back whenever I get the chance to experience great food and great service at the hands of Chef Bhishup and the fantastic team at On Red.
T. J.
Beautiful view and excellent customer service. Food is nice too. Thank you for the Birthday message on the dessert. It is very impressive.
a. T.
This place is worth a visit. The food is consistently good and always beat your expectations, each dish was very good. There new menu is super innovative and really nice. Loved the play with your food approach and the story told through the food made it memorable. Nice creativity to how each course is served. The beef & duck were great. Cheesecake and mango desert were really nice too with some great flavours hidden in there. I’d love to see the kangaroo turned into a main because it was really tender and tasty.
The service was friendly and the place had a nice atmosphere & views.
The wine matching was enjoyable. We really liked the vermouth and Japanese wine match.
Loved the desert wine in the end.
U guys rock... Keep up your standards
J. M.
Absolutely beautiful. We had the lunchtime set menu and it was scrumptious..
Excellent service and beautiful location and outlook
E. Y.
This restaurant used to be my favourite - generous portions, delicious food, and very nice environment/atmosphere. However, Christmas 2019 we came here again, portions were reduced to less than half of what used to be served, there was also constant yelling from the kitchen (I assume it’s the chef?) Everything else was very nice.
A. P.
This was our first time dining at Onred and we couldn't fault a thing. For a restaurant that could so easily have been up its own ass, it was anything but. The staff were friendly and welcoming, the food was absolutely delicious and you get the most spectacular views over Canberra as the sun sets. We kicked off with a cocktail each, then had the four course dinner and dessert together with the wine pairing - the first time I'd done that too, and totally recommend it. For special occasions or if you generally like to eat fancy, I fully recommend giving Onred a go.
C. W.
Went here with my partner. The experience was wonderful - looking out over Canberra. However, the service was lacking for the size of the establishment, and the amount you pay; a smaller restaurant should allow for more attention given to your few customers.
The food was lovely, but didn't exactly hit that "wow" factor. Once again, we were left wanting just a bit "more". A wide variety of flavours, but not all of it truly worked. Technically, our rating is 3.5 stars. We would recommend everyone visit at least once.
T. S.
What a great night with work mates. Onred is definitely a place to be . This venue has some unique touches and great menu options. Was my first time and definitely not the last one. Will be back for sure guys. Keep up the good work
S. F.
Super killing views from top of canberra . New chef is amazing and staff is as good as reviews.food is well portioned control course wise and bit pricey, but if u r looking for views and food this restaurant has a combo of everything . Staff is well trained with smiles
Might choose this venue for our Christmas party
s.
We expected a lot from Onred after reading the glowing reviews but even though the view was great... the food was average. We (a couple) had the 4 course offer for $79. I had the venison (a tad over done but probably the best dish), lamb (not particularly memorable), pork belly (no crispy skin but served with what appeared to be a prawn cracker and floating in some sort of liquid) and a dessert that was billed as a cheesecake but was more of a soft cheesecake tasting icecream encased in a rock hard cherry flavoured something or other. We were served by 4 different people who wore white gloves but did not understand the basics of fine dining service... weird. The decor is a bit sparce and they really need to dust the light fittings. All in all a nice enough evening with average food and a great view.
P. S.
Lovely food, excellent service, top-class ambience decked with the views of Canberra's centre around Lake Burley Griffin.
J. S.
First impressions was nice when my wife and I walked in, that's where the wow factor stopped. She did make the booking and made it clear it was our anniversary, no point having a comment section of the booking unless you going to recognise the comments.
For a restaurant who praise themselves as a fine dining experience, I have to say there is a lot of work to be done. Few criticism. No salt and pepper on tables . Not even offered once during our 4 course dining. No table cloths. The restaurant advertise a 2017 bottle of McLaren Vale wine. Came out a 2018 bottle. Not a single time of having a full bottle of wine on the table did we actually get our wine poured for us. Having to pour our own wine in a fine dining venue, doesn't say much, even tho it was quite night and 3 staff half the time standing aimlessly starting at a wall.
The food was nice but not perfect. The duck was tough, still tasty however the bed of of green edamame really doesn't go with the duck . The salmon was over cooked. Nice however, but still over cooked. The mustard seeds with salmon was an interesting touch. rare beef was cold and really didn't shine like it should of. The desert I had the poached apple, was sour and not pleasant. Only dish I did not finish. Funny enough no one asked how my dish was. Which I would of given feedback in hope they would rectify the issues. We had a large group of individuals near us which really overpowered the restaurant with noise when they were drinking too much and made it very difficult to have a conversation at times as we could not hear ourselves talk. Was kinda expecting a quite dinner.
Anyways not a bad night however definitely room for improvement.
L. P.
Such a beautiful view of Canberra while you dine. Food was pretty great (a little light on vegetables/sides to go with the proteins) and they were amazing at catering for gluten and dairy free. Service was excellent as well. Their cocktail mixology could use some work Haha. Over all, really lovely evening and a great place to dine
A. M.
Ate here last night. Menu had multiple options for the 4 courses and extras should you want. We had the matched wines for each course. The staff were attentive, proficient and an absolute delight. Add to all this the awesome views and you can't go wrong. I thoroughly recommend here and will be back soon.
s. s.
Very nice view! Very kind staffs and the food is delicious. But the portions is very small. My wife ask for a ravioli and came only one ravioli. For the price we paid could come 4 raviolis minimum. My portions was really small too.
R. B.
The food was great: an amazing mix of flavours, textures, colours. The view is amazing, especially as the sun was setting during our meal time. What spoilt the evening was the service: the waiter didn't break a smile all night, not even on greeting us to the restaurant. We felt 'tolerated'. We could hear a negative conversation between the staff about another staff member (who wasn't present), and part way through our meal, the waiter told the kitchen staff to make the portion sizes smaller.
Again, the food was great, but way too expensive to not have decent service. I doubt I will go back.
J. M.
Fabulous four course meal and awesome views.
B. P.
So pleased with our dining experience. The meals was timely, cooked amazingly and very filling. Environment was soothing yet colorful and The staff were so approachable and accommodating.
D. D. (. L. Z.
Still a 3. Food came out cold but it was nice food
L. L.
Excellent service! Fantastic views! Food was 4 courses, beginning with appetizer and bread rolls. Mostly delicious, the duck was a little dry dessert was absolutely amazing. Great selection of wines.
N. B.
Delicious menu and really lovely staff. Each course was truely unique and well thought through. I recommend the burrata second course which won our night.
After all four courses, a couple of oysters, and a some wine we left feeling really well fed.
Also, as you can imagine, it had a really beautiful view of the city.
M. M.
Had a lovely night here, 20th Sept '19. The food is excellent, service is attentive, but not obtrusive, views are magnificent. Definitely the place to go in Canberra for a fantastic meal!!
k. r.
Lovely experience. Will be keen to try again.
R. P.
Great dining experience with my beautiful wife on our aniversary. Watching the sunset on an amazing Canberra spring day from this hidden Canbrrra gem..highly recommended.
S. Y.
They served chips as a starter for kids meal.. and gnocchi for main.. $35 per head for kids with icecream as a desert.. they couldn't substitute chips with any vegies which I was very unhappy with.
Food took very long to come out..
The view was beautiful and atmosphere was relaxing and they provided a high chair for my daughter.
4 course meal for adults were ok but not amazing flavors.
Definitely don't recommend to go with young children.
S. B.
The restaurant has great views but for a fine dining experience it is a little lacking. The service is ok but not very attentive. The portions are very very small and the food was underwhelming.
A. W.
Amazing view! Incredible food! We were very well looked after by friendly staff throughout the evening. Highly recommended! Best fine dining in town
K. E.
Wonderful mains! We loved the idea of the entree sized meals - basically a do-it-yourself degustation. Very finely balanced flavours in all the dishes we tried. Service was impeccable, best we've had so far in Canberrra. Only downside to the meal was the dessert, which was nothing special after the fabulous mains. We will definitely be back (though next time I'll have the cheese plate for dessert).
V. L.
Nice view, tasty food and excellent service!
C. S.
The views are the best in Canberra. Food was really good and good value, customer service great. Only let down is the building is in need of a reno
D. D.
Excellent view that’s for sure. As to the dishes, it may need improvement. My boyfriend’s lamb was too dry and a bit under seasoned.
Over all would recommend this place for special occasions.
P. C.
Thank you to all the staff on New Year's day. My son had his wedding celebration there and we could not have asked for a better evening. The food was sublime, the atmosphere perfect. Thank you one and all. ⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘
S. D.
Nice views. Needs a bit of a spruce up. Good was ok. I'd go there again even though it didn't blow my socks off. Would be better if there were three restaurants instead of one. Competition improves everything!
h. d.
Came to Onred by mistake when making a booking on a mobile in a dimly lit cinema, don't regret it for an instant, imaginative food and loved being able to try several dishes. Staff were wonderful, and as someone else said, we were royally treated. I am getting together another 4 special people in my life and booking there again. Also appreciate that there are plenty of vegetarian options.
Y. l.
make sure you have a formal wear. the view is better than the food.
M. S.
Stunning vistas both indoors and outdoors. Delicious food offerings but a bit $$$. The magpies watch with envy your every mouthful. Friendly staff.❣️
G. J.
Best course was the lamb backstrap and the dessert, most others seemed to lack seasoning and flavour. Meal sizes are very small, would not go back given the price.
A. K.
Lovely, scenic and charming place to visit for coffee or lunch. Out of the city bustle. get a new perspective of Canberra, with views across the Inner South, Lake Burley Griffin and toward the airport. Sunny window tables in winter and outside seating for warmer days. Friendly staff and interesting menu. Had our winter truffle fix- hot chips with truffle oil and parmesan
P. B.
Not often for vegetarians are there many choices on a menu- here I had 9!! Although I wanted to try everything I went for 2 'safe' options (cauliflower & cheese tortellini, raisins, pickled walnuts & sage butter & goats cheese fritters with peas, parmesan & semolina crackers) and one mystery bet (tofu with kaffir lime cream, eggplant & bok choy). All were delicious and the right portion size. Highly recommend it
G. M.
Food was fantastic, the views are great, and then the light show from the fireworks and lightening just topped the night off. If you are in canberra go there, you won't be disappointed.
D. T.
I think the service is a bit lacking for the price point. Food was great but some dishes missed the mark for me (I'll put that down to my tastes though)
M. T.
One of the best for Din in at canberra Red Hill
X. F.
The view outside of the window was great, beautiful sunset. But the food was ok... Also, waiter seems like not happy for some reason...
L. W.
The view is amazing. The food is very neat and precise but portion sizes are not extremely generous. Bookings seem essential.
C. J.
