Comments of Rebel Rebel
D. H.
Came here for a birthday lunch for the first time today. The flavours were amazing, with a wonderful variety in the meals.
The staff were friendly and attentive and the meals were brought out one at a time as we finished the previous dish. Not cheap, but definitely worth it.

I have had Rebel Rebel in my bucket list for a while and I happened to be driving nearby after work for a late lunch, and I’m so glad I finally dined here! What a treat, I loved the decor which gives a modern yet warm atmosphere. Service was faultless and food was very well presented and delicious overall. Having said this, I wouldn’t order again the ox tongue as the flavour combination could be more balanced, the tongue is quite a strong flavour and the spicy chillies made it a bit too much at times. I can’t wait to try some of their other dishes though.
To be a 5 star experience, a better selection of wines by the glass would be a perfect pairing to the food, I found the wines too young and lacking complexity.
Highly recommended overall.

Had a really delicious meal and experience at Rebel Rebel tonight. It was really great to see staff wearing masks properly (didn't see any loose noses!) and the restaurant windows and main door were open for ventilation. Definitely made me feel more comfortable when dining indoors (though outside tables were available).
All the food was delicious but if I had to pick favourites the fried quail with Harissa and lemon and the pumpkin with curry leaves and smoked yoghurt were my favourites. Service was great and the food was well paced- we were never rushed to finish which was appreciated. Will be back.
G. C.
Delicious food in general and great service. The tuna and the Morton bay bug special was 5/5. Pumpkin was nice 4/5 but the zucchini wasn't to our taste but may be suited for others. Would return again to explore their menu some more.
b. r.
Such a lovely restaurant! The food is excellent, beautiful wines and natural wines - oysters and grilled prawns were 🙏🔥
Really lovely design and view of the kitchen.
Staff were so accommodating and friendly!

We had dinner here. Good ambience. Does get quite noisy. Parking can be a little difficult especially if you don't know the area too well.
Food overall was very good. However, the servings of the same dish / course sizes were very disproportionate. We could see straight away that the 2 Rib Eye dishes were quite different in sizes by about 1/3.
I don't feel that there strength lies in their cocktail / spirit mixes as the Vodka Martini was quite weak and the Grappa seemed to taste more of aniseed overpowering any other taste.
A great night was had nevertheless as stated the food was good.
Give them a go.

Perfect start to my 40th birthday weekend! From the decor, food, and service—I’m so glad we chose Rebel Rebel for our little dinner for two. The Chef’s special was adjusted to suit our preferences too! Highly recommended… especially if like us, you tend to not ‘get out’ much. A truly relaxed and friendly dining experience! Thank you to the gorgeous staff 💜
C. L.
Amazing food and attentive waitresses. We ordered the oysters, cabbage, quail, chips, beef tongue and pandan/coconut sorbet. All dishes we spectacular. Hands down the best restaurant in Canberra.
n. a.
Steak tartare possibly the best I’ve ever had (don’t fear the anchovies - you can’t even see them and they make the dish). All the other dishes consistently great - the roasted cabbage was an unexpected delight. This is really sophisticated dining - the maître d’ even has a French accent. Amazing space too - highly recommend.
O. C.
Divine chef’s suggestion menu ✨ It was absolutely delicious, tasted so fresh and full of unique flavours. Loved it! Thank you.
J. A.
Rebel Rebel is an amazing experience: a creative cuisine with a chef willing to experiment with different flavours. Everything on the menu was excellent especially the steak tartare and Parmesan cannoli… just fantastic!
N. J.
Rebel Rebel was one of the best food establishments we visited when we went to Canberra! The service was incredible, friendly, fast and quirky. The food was super innovative and quite tasty. Definitely a place to take friends who are adventurous eaters.
D. G.
We ordered the steak tartare and shoestring chips. The chips came with a aeoli sauce. Both really nice. The chips were super crispy. Customer service was fantastic! Spoke to the barstaff for around 20min about their cocktail and food menu. They certainly knew their stuff.
C. L.
Last minute walk in and scored an outside table. Pleasant night for dining out under the stars. Zucchini, tomato/nectarine colatura salad and beef rib. Washed down with some sparkling water. Wine drinkers will definitely have a great time at this licensed restaurant. Very reasonable price. Definitely worth revisiting
H. P.
Nice environment and interesting food. The menu changes on a regular basis so that I got the chance to try different dishes. Definitely one of my favourite local restaurants.
N. S.
Exceptional experience - both food and service! We had 7 course chef special which started with fresh oysters, followed by 3 entries and 2 maines and ended with cream brule ice-cream in an airy merengue sandwich. My description of the food wouldn't make it justice. Just mention, that first time in my life I ate deliciously cooked Brussel sprouts and that the beef steak was the best in my life and melted in my mouth! Also, just for the context, we've had enough exposure to expensive restaurants which were worth it and equally less so. And Rebel Rebel is now definitely in the top! Well deserved and well done! Thank you and all respect and appreciation 🙌
D. E.
Rebel Rebel had excellent service considering they were on the verge of closing. Many of the dishes were wonderful, including the raw tuna salad. However, some of the portions were small which should be taken into account. Some dishes also had a strong volume of garlic.
J. Y.
What an absolute treat to have dined here. Perfect for brunch and the staff are just wonderful to talk to and highly recommend the tasting set (you get to try all the good dishes on the menu for only $70pp!). The dishes are very well presented and out do many top restaurants in Sydney for its price and taste!
Highly recommend when in town to check this place out
S. M.
Floor manager was unpretentious and had great knowledge of the menu. We walked in without a booking on a busy night and had our first course within 10 minutes, with everything else coming out at the perfect pace. A really star place to try something new. Thanks for having us.
y. H.
REBEL REBEL has the WOW-Factor!
The lunch menu is beautiful, and I've had the same meal twice! The food is super fresh and plated beautifully, and the flavours are astounding. The chips were a generous serving and were also freshly made, which is something I appreciate.
The price for what you get is super reasonable, as the food is high end, but the price is similar of that to the other surrounding restaurants near the Nishi building.
The service is prompt and the staff are friendly and helpful.
The location has a very beautiful interior, and is spacious. The environment is very chill and has a great vibe.
I highly recommend making a trip here if you feel like a fancy meal minus the fancy prices that most high end dining entails!
UPDATE: This menu item is no longer available

Absolutely amazing food but let down by a rude staff lady. All other staff were amazing, except for the service from that one woman, which was extremely poor. I am all for giving someone an off day, however, I have had multiple friends who have attended and have had the same experience with the lady. Extremely saddened as everything was amazing and will return regardless.
B. D.
I’ve come to here for several times, food is extremely good, service is fantastic. Highly recommended!
V. L.
Fantastic food and service.
All the food was delicious. In particular, our favourites were the ribeye steak with anchovy butter and chocolate mousse with cherry & sesame.
P. C.
10/10. Perfectly crispy salmon belly with sublime poached eggs topped with salmon roe and served on fresh baked bread. Coffee was great and I bought some freshly ground for home. I was so impressed I’ve booked to come back for dinner with a group. A delightful place, great ambience and friendly staff. Highly recommended.
B. D.
We had awesome service. Food was really good as well. A few dishes didnt stand out, but the ones that did definitely make me want to come back.
M. A. A.
Stunning decor, friendly staff, and delicious food. We went for dinner and shared 4 meals.
The drinks menu is impressive too and the local hot ginger beer was amazing.
Great morning chai and pastries too
V. P.
Great restaurant, beautiful interiors, delicious food & excellent service
R. C.
This place is absolutely amazing! The food is amazing, staff are friendly, and it’s a stunning place to go eat. If you’re in Canberra, it would be a shame to miss out on one of the best restaurants in the city. Also has amazing food for take away as well as eat in.
S. S.
Very good. Elegant yet down to earth. Highly recommend eating here. Vongole, chorizo, cider, so tasty. Asparagus, fava, fig leaf oil, amazing. Would have loved to try all dishes, would love to see more of these guys, so by way of constructive advice, maybe consider offering a sample menu (at least on weekends, to share more of the goodness with out of towners)? And possibly offer a few more local wines by the glass? Excellent service as in professional and helpful! Great pastries, too..
A. M.
Went to Rebel Rebel on Sunday with some girlfriends, I purchased the mudcake and it was amazing; so dense and tasty. The centre had a coffee filling which complemented it perfectly - would definitely go back just for that cake! Hats off to the chef who made it
K. E.
A very pleasant and modern cafe restaurant in the entertainment hub of New Acton. This place is close to the QT and a great alternative for business travelers to breakfast in the Hotel.
The decor is great - modern warehouse meets Scandinavian fish restaurant - and suits the casual nature of the dining. My breakfast was simple and generous and the coffee was great - good enough for a second cup! Staff inexperience was compensated by their enthusiasm and friendliness.
S. H.
Delicious food and knowledgeable staff, great contemporary wine list. Had a few diet limitations which they were also happy to accommodate.
B. L.
Had a late, quiet Tuesday lunch, plenty of space inside. Friendly and helpful service. Clean and attractive decor. Most of the menu items sounded appealing - not just standard fare. Amongst others, the truffle Jerusalem artichokes and the pig's ear sandwich were notable. Servings reasonable and prices also - if not for the 'as much food for as little cash' customer. Well worthwhile.
최.
Good place and foods were nice! the kingfish was the best I ever had!!!!
W. H.
Everything about this place was 5 stars plus - great wine list that the wait staff want to talk about, awesome food flavours (vegetable options as well probably best on the menu). A great series of share plates and venue for a good night
D.
Tartare, croquettes, prawns, and chips are all very good. Didn't manage to get a photo before they were all eaten. Also Not often you come across a very very well priced 17 year old wine. Get in before they're gone! Will be back!
M. W.
What can I say, this meal was outstanding and the service was super friendly. Every dish tasted amazing, a memorable meal and worth the price! Will certainly be back.
J. S.
Love Andrew McConnell restaurants and this was no exception. Wait staff were SO lovely and set in their signature "modern with a twist" decor. Key differences here, portion sizes are GENEROUS coming from Syd, could have ordered half for two of us. Was really looking forward to croquettes but honestly too salty. My favourite was the tuna tartar and rib eye - AMAZING!! Also this wine was divine.
M. M.
Best modern food in canberra. Tried their breakie menu this time. The salmon is beautiful. The black pudding is so full of flavours, yum!
C. K.
Staffs are really nice and caring. Foods was okay but I really enjoyed the coffee and the atmosphere.
A. D.
Have had two meals here, and both equally fantastic. Great wine list and friendly staff to match.
Thanks team!
D. H.
Amazing service and food.
From start to finish, the service was second to none.
Food was excellent and exactly what was expected
l. b.
First visit after a recommendation. Outstanding food and service. We were blown away by the quality of each dish. Loved it and will recommend!
T. W.
Every dish was a solid 4 stars. Good but not exceptional. We had the kingfish (tasty but very chewy), the eggplant (nice eggplant flavour but the nduja and lack of seasoning didn't add much), croquettes (again, nice but nothing special) and finally the beef steak (really well cooked and seasoned, the best dish overall). Service was friendly and efficient. Of the three fine dining experiences we had in Canberra this was our least favourite. It's extremely expensive as you would expect and whilst undeniably good food, it didn't push the boat out on flavours or quality.
L. C.
Food was absolutely delicious. Male staff who is so friendly and funny😄
S. C.
We just had to see how Rebel Rebel compares to the cafe it replaced. It was easy to book online and we arrived early. There was only another table occupied. I ordered my usual skim flat white but they only had full-cream. I ordered the black pudding but the staff said omelette. I made it clear I wanted black pudding - BUT I was served omelette still. Oh, well - I told my husband it was my second choice anyway.
The place started getting busy as we were almost done with our meal. The cafe had ventilation issues as smoke from the kitchen wafted through the dining area. Regardless, the food tasty and the place had a modern pleasant ambience.
M. P.
Had the chefs selection, all courses were delicious and we were well satisfied, the service was excellent and very accommodating. Highly recommend!
C. L.
Provided a decent Valentine's Day lunch. Nice atmosphere.
L. O.
Amazing chips and food. This marmalade cake was a whole emotional experience, as my girlfriend put it. But the huge noise levels are unchanged from the Cafe days. We spent most of the meal leaning across to each other (eventually one friend with sensory issues just went outside). A bit of acoustic foam under the tables and some drapery in those very cool beams would make a world of difference.
K. C.
We were recommended for the steak tartare and it didn't disappoint! Came here for a delicous breakfast with the kids then had a fantastic parents only night on the same day! The place was buzzing, the food was incredible, staff super friendly and beautiful interiors. Saving this place for next time we are in town!
J. W.
My wife and I travelled to Canberra for our anniversary (long) weekend. We had such a great dinner at Rebel Rebel on Thursday that we came back for breakfast on Sunday! Amazing food, great service and a fantastic vibe. A real stand out. Keep up the great work!
W. B.
Insanely good food, Canberra-grade coffee, very cool fit-out, comfortably in the top tier of Canberra breakfast options. A must visit for foodies and people who appreciate a diverse cultural space.
B. W.
I loved this place. I loved the service, the casual yet complex food and the over all ambiance of the place. You feel welcomed and comfortable here, while experiencing something special. The food is something I will remember for a long time. So while you are grinning for ear to ear, enjoying some of the best food in Canberra while laughing with the staff and friends, remember this is fine dining. Fine dining should be like this, warm and welcoming. I highly recommend this establishment.
H. E.
Outstanding.
Great food, service, venue & wine list.
A. M.
Awesome food, service and atmosphere!!! I don’t know how I’ll be able to eat anywhere else again.
S. G.
From the minute we entered Nathan, our waiter made us feel welcome. Nathan's knowledge of the menu and the wine list was outstanding and his recommendations were very helpful, particularly the Canberra region wine by Ravensworth (skin Contact Pinot Gris). Sean McConnell's menu, "modern Australian with a vague European lean" is interesting with an emphasis on vegetables. We chose an array of dishes from a tuna tartare with watermelon and feta, pickled octopus, sardine piadina and eggplant with a spicy addition of nduja and almonds and mint. Oops nearly forgot the chips, possibly the best in Australia! We could not resist deserts and shared the chocolate, liquorice and macademia and the roasted rhubarb fool. It was great to see Sean in the kitchen too! We will return and highly recommend
J. T.
Great customer service and food (especially the grilled prawns, wagyu steak and parmesan cannoli)!
H.
Good food, cool decor, but perfunctory service. Felt like we were disturbing the disinterested server rather than warmly celebrating our wedding anniversary. You're never too busy for the guest. So I'm taking a star for that.
M. T.
We had a fantastic meal at Rebel Rebel and the service was excellent. You can tell they put a lot of thought into each individual dish. Some of the standouts were the tartare, grilled prawn, artichokes, sugarloaf cabbage and the rib eye. I think there could be a few more wine options and some comfier bar stools, but other than that it was hard to fault.
J. G.
One of the best places I have ever visited amazingly cozy and beautiful food just awesome. Cannot explain in words
Much visit.
A. F.
Great service delicious food with a great wine list and good cocktails.
Highly recommend the eggplant with pickles cucumber and the quince pudding for desert but all the dishes we ordered tasty.
N. S.
Food and service were both fantastic. The place has a really nice vibe, too.
J. R.
Quite simply the best restaurant I have been to that I can remember off the top of my head. Delicious food, great ambiance and unbelievable wine. And in the end, for a meal of this caliber, not that expensive. Where to go next is the question, with our expectations this high in Canberra.
T. C.
Another standout in the growing Canberra restaurant scene. Interesting, very tasty menu with dishes to share, and an excellent wine list…all supported by great service from friendly, helpful staff. Recommended
N. C.
Excellent food and service and willing to accommodate special requests.
M. T.
Simple but delicious brekky. Well balanced. Good coffee. Decent price!
D. M.
Interesting food that goes beyond what you're used to seeing on menus. They do some really good stuff with vegetables, and most dishes are great. Professional and friendly service too, without being stuffy.
W. T.
What an amazing place..food and service were great. Made a solo trip to Canberra and this great place didn't make me feel like a fish out of water.
Some of their entree are available as a per piece order unlike another restaurant where the list the price as "each" but states a min of 3 per order might as well price it as 3 with additional cost / pc.
Had a great beef tartare, grilled prawn n croquet for my entree and a duck Confit with chestnut! All were beautifully done. The Croquet had a prawn head mayo which elevated the humble croquet when you get the prawny hit fm the mayo.
Overall, well done chefs!
G. D.
Outrageously good! Came to Canberra for the long weekend and had 86 on Braddon booked for the second night as it is one of might favourite restaurants in all of Australia, so booked Rebel Rebel for the first night not knowing exactly what to expect. Dear Lord it was fantastic, we opted for the set menu and every single dish was delicious, no time for camera phones to take photos as the food was devoured! Seriously good value for money also as you get a lot of food! Only slight criticism, and it is very slight!, possibly too much food! Hats off to the chefs, manager and the staff for a great evening all round!
J. L.
EVERYTHING was delicious, and the staff were great
C. C.
I ❤️ their super yummy salmon belly, roe, poached eggs, good coffees, friendly service and the casual chic vibe! It's my Saturday brekkie/brunch treat!! Thank you for making everything delicious :)
G. P.
Food was exceptional! Will definitely recommend that you make a stop here when you’re visiting Canberra!
e.
Amazing lunch with a close friend Friday... The food was excellent and served with flair and not one dish didn't impress! Packed with flavour and after only four share dishes, we were full. The mackerel was delicious and so too were the brussel sprouts delivered piping hot in a mini skillet. Don't miss the artichoke dish either..amazing. The service was informed , fast and gracious. These folks definitely know what they are doing and do it well. The prices were more than fair for quality and area.
I noticed a few bad 1 star reviews, coincidently all posted at around the same time..strange much? A little suspicious I think..and no I haven't been here before and have no agenda either way. just being truthful.

REBEL REBEL!
Its so nice, you say it twice!
We tried the set menu with the RibEye steak. The food was amazing and abundant. I have not had this satisfying a set menu, in a long while.
We are visiting from Sydney, and this restraunt puts most famous Sydney restraunts to shame.
Every single dish on the set menu was a gem!
And to top it off the service was delightful!
This restraunt makes me wish I lived here.
S. O.
Best lunch (or any meal) in ages, we had a 5 course vegan degustation. It’s was so incredibly well put together, all ingredients were matched perfectly creating a superb taste that lingered for hours.
Well done Sean, and great to meet you!
H. C.
Everything about Rebel Rebel is wonderful, from the ambience, service, food and coffee! It is the most comfortable dining experience I have ever had in ACT. It will definitely be a staple for a great night out!!

Loved this experience here. Nothing pretentious but beautifully styled and food flavours from an otherwise short looking menu, we really, really unexpected and long lasting.
R. B.
Good food and great selection of grog. Try out the 8% IPA with the health warning on the can.

These guys can do no wrong. Brilliant.

David Bowie, what can I say❤ great name and poster of mr Bowie as you walk in. Nice menu. Staff were friendly. Great music...and yes, some Bowie was played.
A. B.
Taste...yours or mine...forever stimulating....Our review of Rebel Rebel comes from a background of trying to represent “ early adopters”, where experiences risk being disappointing. Not so with Rebel Rebel. We chose a modest array of the evening menu, each small bite and more robust item being as creative, enjoyable and satisfying as the next..no need to mention our choice as our neighbouring table chose differently but were equally impressed. Our sommelier for the evening was full of sound knowledge and “leave it up to you” choice of glass of white and red were equally matching to our preferred taste. This is one of our mapped best places to revisit. Congratulations to our host on aspiring to innovation and risk taking in an increasingly competitive Canberra market.
K. M.
Great food. Great service !

The food it's delicious, creative and surprising. The environment it's modern but not that interesting. I took 1 star away because of the size of the plates. For real, please revise your portions they are ridiculous for the price.
A. S.
Had a wonderful dinner tonight - great atmosphere, meals full of flavor, flair and creativity. Service was amazing and we were made to feel comfortable and relaxed.
Fantastic work Rebel Rebel!!

This place is just amazing. Funny story on way to getting to the restaurant we asked someone the way and walking through the door the stranger was the chef! Every dish an absolute gem and truly Australian fare. The Pinot from a local winery very very smooth. Amazing list of wines if you prefer something further afield. The service just super and another 5 star experience. Make your way to this place before it gets discovered by rest of the world. Reserve 15 mins before hand and walk the suburb absolutely amazing gardens of green bushes and plants. Foods to kill oysters with beetroot/radish dress, kingfish carpaccio mouth watering and croquets absolutely divine fir something so simple.
