Comments of Drunken Admiral
C. K.
Loved the sail ship- style interior and the vintage concept. We had a big group, and tried a variety of choices.
We all enjoyed the creamy crowded soup , the juicy steak and fresh oysters from the giant seafood platter, along with wine and refreshing mocktails..However, quite disappointed with deep fried dishes, such as fried chicken, fried calamari- tasted like when using old used oil for cooking.
Overall the food and the service was not worth the price value.

It's a spectacular place, I loved the concept. You can really witness being on a vintage ship 🚢 . I tried the Sidney to Tasmania Plate🍤🦪 and it was magnificent, excellent presentation, absolutely everything was very well prepared, a delicacy. The bad thing was the service, the waitress who served me was not very attentive. I ordered a bottle of wine and she just left it on the table, she didn't present it, she didn't open it, she didn't fill the glasses, a disappointment😥. Well, I enjoyed my delicious food and I fell in love with the place. I really recommend you to have that experience, there are other waiters who really do their job and the front staff was very friendly as well👌🏻.
L. P.
Great spot for some seafood and wine. The decor is obviously fantastic. I found that price wise the value is okay. It seemed a little steep for what you get considering how many seafood options there are nearby. I would go again and recommend it for anyone looking for an adventurous dining experience.
E. B.
What a great spot for amazing sea-food in Hobart def checkout there catch of the day on the special menu. The fish was delicious and the atmosphere is great with all that pirate and seafarer looks inside the place. When we come back to Hobart we definitely will come back for more fish.
P. M.
If there was a way to give this place 7 stars out of 5 I would. Easily the best seafood restaurant I’ve ever been to, hands down. The internal/external decor is rooted in seafaring nostalgia and gives it an old-worldly charm that leaves such a remarkable impression. The food has clearly gone that extra mile. The salmon was served on a rock so hot, you could feel the heat under the table 30 minutes after the meal was brought out. The Tassie scallops were perfectly seasoned, sweet, and definitely melted in the mouth. Although probably mid-range for pricing, it is worth every cent. Do expect to spend a fair amount to fully experience what this place offers. The place isn’t just dining, it’s an activity; an experience. A place where ambience is key. Obviously being so good, it is very popular, so best to book at least a day in advance to secure your preferred time. I remember this place very fondly, and you will too.
M. M.
Staffs were really friendly and nice. It is quite an experience.
We really love the hot rock salmon, ordered one as an entree size and realised we couldn’t get enough so we ordered another one. If we could we would lick the hot rock, the salmon is really tasty.
The Admiral’s Iced Tea is refreshing!

Tried this place tonight after being recommended by some random in market. Best decision!!
Meal not only looked great, they tasted awesome too. Waitress was very friendly and informative. Chef was accommodating to some requests we made to add to our meal. Portions are generous, even though on menu prices may look little steep, but quality and portion size definitively makes up for it.
Highly recommended if you are in Hobart!
K. B.
Amazing food & Ambience
I ordered the cashew curry was loaded with fish and tasted delicious
The ousters shots, i found it not as delicious maybe because of the tomato sauce
But over all was s great experience
A.
Really atmospheric restaurant who were accomodating for our request for a seat in the corner or against the wall. The hot rock salmon was the star of the show. The seafood chowder and salt and pepper squid was good but overshadowed by the amazing salmon dish.
E. B.
Amazing place once you enter you feel you are in a ship. Excellent service and the food is just from another world. Definitely the best seafood in Tasmania. Friendly staff.
K. M.
We really enjoyed our time at The Drunken Admiral last night for our final night in Hobart!
The seafood was delicious! Fresh fillets, they weren’t joking!!
Staff were so attentive and the decor is awesome! So much to see and the little touches that give you a chuckle!
I will also point out that the the place is impeccably clean! I wasn’t looking but as I left the bathroom and a staff member was checking it over, I realized how incredibly clean the entire venue was. For a place with as much memorabilia as the Drunken Admiral, it’s a credit to the owner!
Telling all our friends to come here and whether you have a penchant for the high seas or not, make it a must on your next visit to Hobart!
H. H.
Beautifully prepared dishes. Fun, historic memorabilia throughout the restaurant in a cosy layout.
M. M.
The interior designs with all those details were AMAZING. The food was really good too. If you go to Hobart you should go there.
The cocktails and foods were very tasty. My friends and I had Hot rock salmon, devil fried Oyster and prawn linguine for dinner. I loved salmon and linguine the most.
Staff were friendly as well.
This place is highly recommended.

This is the best seafood restaurant in the world.
Fresh, comfortable and surprisingly spacious, delicious and excellent value. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Our entrees were the Chipotle Squid and Prawn Spring rolls, both were epic. The rolls were full of complementing flavours, with a delicious sauce. The squid was so tender and lightly fried it was out of this world.
For mains we had the salt and pepper squid with fries rather than the listed salad, and the Barramundi special. As expected after the entree, perfect.
Deadbeat Daiquiri and Pineapple Margarita cocktails. Delicious and refreshing.
Everything was excellent, the service was impeccable. We will be back.
Y. R. Y.
The service was good. Salmon was good.
Prawns, salad and scallops were underwhelming in our opinion, not really worth the price.
A. G.
The Drunken Admiral is one of my favourite must-dos in Hobart. The food is great and the atmosphere is very cosy. The theme and decor is next level and everything is so on point. I've always loved having a meal here and I'm over the moon that the quality is still amazing all these years later. Keep up the good work, you guys are great!
L. k.
Had dinner last night with my family. I was very impressed with all the foods that we ordered. My young brother kept saying the seafoods are so fresh. Highly recommended dished seafood chowder, red curry and their steak with seafood on top. One drawback is their chips, its fine but if they can make it, that will be a jaw-dropping for me. In general, this is one of the best restaurant I have been so far. I consider it as fair price because of the location.
M. T.
We got their seafood clam chowder which was super delicious, they were very generous with seafood inside (included scallops, chunks of fish, mussel, and lots more). Their red curry with prawn was also super flavorful with big juicy prawns. Very delicious dinner and loved the atmosphere too.
S. B.
Good atmosphere, friendly staff with good service. We had the scoluops which were disappointing. The prawn linguine was very nice with a generous serving of prawns. The chicken tenders dish was okay but not great. Great selection of beers and wines including local products.
H. L.
Whilst it is a bit pricey, the drunken admiral is definitely a place I would return.
The presentation was excellent if all meals, the flavour was good, and the wait time was reasonable considering how busy it was.
My only minor issue was the servers (who were all wonderful) didn't serve one table at a time, but served a few meals to several tables so there was a small delay for everyone's meals so the group could eat together.
Other than that, we would definitely return. 😊
N. N. (.
This 49 something establishment should be on everyone's must do in Hobart! A unique concept restaurant that just blends in with the vibe and history of the place. The food is absolutely delicious and the wait staff very friendly and helpful. The market board and Rock seared salmon is an absolute ringer! Yum! The place makes for great pictures and is like a capsule to the times gone by.
J. B.
Brilliant place to be consumed in nostalgia of the seafaring kind....
Haven't been here for twenty something years, and they are still refined with great service and of course the food.
Had my Bro over from Brunswick Melbourne, so we had a taste of a few dishes... Bring a full wallet as prices are up there, but the food matches that leaps and bounds..
A. H.
Bit of a tourist trap if anything. Nothing bad about the food, it was good fresh seafood and well seasoned. However it is definitely overpriced for what it is. If you're more focussed on food go elsewhere, otherwise if you're into the quirky pirate ship esque Decor then this could be your cup of tea
V. L. (.
Must visit in Hobart, we enjoyed every dish (loved the chowder!) but were particularly surprised by the surf and turf as the steak was amazing, even in comparison to other steak restaurants we tried in Tassie! Make sure you book in advance as it gets pretty busy as you can imagine
F. M.
Food was delicious. However the kid's meals were overpriced.
D. L.
Had dinner here on our first night visiting Hobart. The restaurant decor was very uniquely themed like a pirate ship and the atmosphere was lively. The bluefin tuna sashimi and grilled skewers were delicious. The beer battered barramundi and prawn cutlets (which were really beer battered prawns), were too overly battered and tasted strongly of bicarb soda. The chowder was tasted very similar to creamy mushroom soup and wasn’t too special. Overall I’d definitely recommend a visit, especially for the grilled seafood.
T. E.
The curry and ocean trout salad is incredible. Portion sizes are more than plenty and atmosphere is great. Would go again.
B. W.
The atmosphere, staff and food were fantastic! However, it was quite overpriced and the portion wasn't great. This might be the normal pricing in Tasmania so this is just my opinion.
- yellow fin tuna sashimi (entree): aesthetics; taste and texture were great!
- oysters (2 kinds) : weren't the best and it was $25 for half a dozen.
- Surf and turf (main / specials) : the steak was thin (like it's been butterflied); taste was great tho; tiger prawns were overcooked and small; mashed potatoes was huge and placed at the bottom of the steak; taste and texture was probably the best on the dish. (Priced at $42.6)
- Grilled seafood (main): There were 4 skewers(squid, fish, scallop and prawns) Grilled on a hot plate; taste was good but portion was way too small, a bowl of salad, and fries. Priced at $43
- watermelon mojito and cranberry juice (meh) not bad not good
Probably won't return solely because of the pricing. We've spent about $182
S. L.
A different experience. Family type restaurant with some nice dishes and unusual decor. Staff polite and food of a decent standard.Chipotle Calamari was pretty good. Sizzling platters to finish cooking at the table were a bit of fun.
v. a.
Excellent! It’s very interesting interior, lots details to observe while you are waiting and when you enjoy food in a big variety.
O. D.
Food was nice, we had to book it ahead, because the place is pretty popular. Inside it looks like a museum and all the decoration are impressive. It feels like you are on an old ship.
B. L.
Amazing service! Delicious meals, and friendly staff! The seafood chowder and oysters were delicious. 100% recommend this place!
S. L.
Liked the decor
Service was good
Busy
Food was ok
Satay prawns and scollops didn’t have any vegetables as per menu
A. B.
They were so helpful as we came in from Melbourne and had no where to store suitcases. They were able to store for us as we ate a beautiful meal. Thanks for being so hospitable!!
O. S.
Great food and huge portions. We initially planned on having a dessert but I like that the waiter actually recommended to order it after. Good idea because we were too full to have anything else after dinner. The prices are on a higher side but everything on the beach front is the same. Interesting decor like if you are in a sailor ship. We will definitely come back again.
A. S. (.
FOOD COMA!! Their serving sizes are generous. Very happy with the meals. We got a surf and turf and Barra+chips. The whole place is amazing to look around - toilets super clean. Staff - everyone was polite and smiling.
Can’t fault.
f. a.
Goodish, we had the seafood fest (some special Facebook thing my wife insisted on, ** limited menu). Loved the decor, service A1, the food was nice, but slightly average, that said the seafood chowder was the redeeming course.
Great for non Tasmanians who are unfamiliar with great seafood, otherwise, just nice.
PS. Needs more than one small wedge of lemon for the fisherman's selection, wife found the seafood satay curry a little sweet, needed more balance.
That said, worth a visit...
J.
Old English feel to it, inside is unique feels like your in the bunker of a old ship it's really cool, food portion is good you will leave full I'll tell you that much. Tasty dishes aswell
N. M. D.
Excellent establishment. But you should consider making a booking to ensure a table. Oysters for entree were very fresh and we'll presented. Mains of grilled blue eye and the famous seafood chowder were both great. Not cheap but worth it with great staff and good wine list.
A. H.
Fun place, however a long way from a relaxed dining experience i had in my mind based in the last time i visited (mind u that was 20 years ago...)
Sadly to me the feel has moved a fair way towards a fast food option.
That said, food was good and staff friendly.
M. L.
Amazing interior furnishing, great food. Not that much choice for a vegetarian, but that's something you can expect in a seafood restaurant. However, the food is very tasty! On my opinion the music is not quite suitable to the atmosphere in this beautiful place..
A. J.
Best seafood chowder I ever tasted. Just the right amount of creaminess and you could also taste the sweetness of the seafood in it.
H. F.
So glad we booked this as part of our mini break.
Friendly staff, great food & so much sea faring memorabilia crammed into one place.
We definitely are our fill.
M. v. D.
Seafood was great. The tea tree smoked oysters were divine! Visit for the decor alone is worth it! Drinks list is extensive and cocktails delicious.
3. A.
Really nice restaurant as long as you have a booking. Food was great, and the atmosphere is spot on. Friendly staff, although it was a bit cramped. Would definitely come again.
I. T.
The place to go for seafood lovers! Beautiful building on the outside, thoughtfully decorated with ship parts on the inside, this place serves delicious local seafood that wows. The curry stew and deep fried calamari were perfectly made. Service was attentive, prompt and friendly. Highly recommended.
H.
Great food, great staff, even more amazing decor. The effort and detail of the interior design is worth the visit alone. It’s just topped off by amazing food. Try the chowder if you get the chance!
L. H.
Such a great experience! They really cook seafood well.
M. F.
Had a great night there 8 years ago and its still just as good. They could serve cheese toasties in that place and it would still be worth visiting. Food is sensation but the decore is simply incredible and matches so beautifully with Hobart's rich maritime history.
J. L.
We had very lovely dinner the day before lockdown.
great food, very friendly staffs, fun interesting decorations !
Highly recommend to visit here for either nice pub experience or local restaurant experiences.
+Thank you for keeping my bag safely !
C. S.
It’s a place for drinking. The seafood is not so fresh on my second visit, was all right on my first visit. I spent $95 by dining alone here without any booze.
A. G.
Great service. We had two types of "fish of the day". Both of them were cooked to perfection. Loved local gin with tonic
K. V.
Good service, excellent atmosphere and great food. I ordered the calamari, fish and chips and was very happy with the meal. My friend ordered the clam chowder and fresh rustic bread which was lovely to the eye and as I am told even better to the tongue.
C. E.
Amazing food and really fun atmosphere. I had the salmon hot rock which was sooooo good. Portions were massive so lots of bang for your buck.
N. L.
Excellent seafood restaurant with nice large quantities of chowder and superb alterations of oystets. The prices are expensive, but the decor (that of the interior of a ship with wood panelling everywhere) as well as the high quality of seafood will ensure you will be pleased with the results, both hot or cold. Wine list is extensive, mostly Tasmanin fare. Highly recommended.
N.
We’ll worth a visit, great food, great service.
F. P.
Very very very good seafood. The fish stew (chowder?) was yummy and the fish pot is amazing!
The mix grilled was good but I saw another table ordered the seafood cold platter (sashimi, octopus salad) and felt that I should have ordered that (food envy).
Very pricey with 15% surcharge on weekend
E. y.
Fantastically Fresh food with friendly staff. Amazing eclectic decor.
**Reservation Highly Recommended**
P. T.
Food on par with other pubs. Establishment is amazing. Service was quick. Staff accommodating. Awesomw set up in side, obviously a nautical theme. A bit cramped wrt seating. Don't miss this place. Book ahead.
W.
Great seafood restaurant. It's very busy so you'll need to make a booking to dine there. We had the Yachtie's Seafood Mixed Grill which comprises of four seafood skewers with chips and salad. Also had the Admiral's Fish Pot which is a pot of mixed seafood curry with rice. The fish pot was a large serving however it was only accompanied with a very small serving of rice. We had to order another portion of rice for $5. The skewers were around $38 and the seafood curry was around $44.
For dessert we shared the One Legged Tom. Vanilla bean icecream and chocolate fudge. Very rich so you'll probably need a friend or two to share it with. Dessert are around $15.
The restaurant has a maritime themed decor.
Overall a very nice dining experience.

I had a farewell dinner with my friends and their beautiful daughters. We knew each other before I came to tassie. I was so grateful that I could have them in my work and life. We had a nice time together. Wonderful dishes as always! I wish all the best for you! See you next time!
J. C.
Excellent service and great dishes. This was our splurge dinner whilst in Hobart and we probably got off light spending less than $200 to feed a family of 4.
D. Z.
We had a lovey dinner at Drunken Admiral. the location of this restaurant is very easy to find, and I also enjoyed the pirates theme. Now and then, I feel like to be transported back in time of I order a bottle of rum. The hot stone Salmon was just perfect for me, and the mix seafood grilled was a large meal we could share. I would definitely come back to try more seafood, especially the nice loaf and some seafood hotpot that I saw delivered to another table.
C. M.
We had dinner here and it was enjoyable. The ambience here is great. The restaurant is a delight. The seating is terrific. You are not intruding on other diners, so it is comfortable.
The menu gives you a lot of choice.
It does focus on seafood and is all presented well.
The staff are attentive and friendly.
I had the salmon on the volcanic rock and my friend had the seafood chowder. Great to start with. My friend had the Tassie scallops (soecials board)- she was a bit disappointed wth them. I had the Sultans wok pot consisting of prawns as scallops and enjoyed that.
No room for dessert, but what i saw go past me looked great.
m. P.
Seafood platter was jam packed full of goodness. Chips were crisp and fresh. Service was fabulous, even on an exceptionally busy Saturday evening. Wine selection was great, staff knew their stuff.
H. M.
Best seafood chowder I've had in Australia. Oysters were good too. Great service.
M. M.
Great food. Have an explore around the room. Lots to discover
S. S.
The ambiance was amazing especially for group hangout. The food is good. Tried their prawn and red curry which is great in taste and in portion. Tried their hotrock salmon.
P.
Fresh seafood, friendly and efficient service. Servings for the main courses were generous. The meals were on the salty side. Husband thinks it's the stock and sea salt from the seafood. The favourite dish of the day was the fish pot which was a Thai red curry base with seafood and a small serve of rice. It was a very big serve and can be shared with an extra serve of rice. The seafood chowder and skewers were lovely and fresh too.
E.
Absolutely amazing place! The best seafood I have ever had, amazing atmosphere and the best service! I went here for my 25th birthday and the staff made it so amazing! I HIGHLY recommend the Drunken Admiral, a little bit pricey but 100% worth every cent spent here!!
G. P. A.
I went there for dinner and I had a great experience!
The menu is full of options, there's a whole variety of dishes to suit everyone's taste.
The food is very nice and the cocktails are superb.
Finally the staff is friendly and the service excellent even during busy times.
o. d.
When you first walk in to the Drunken admiral you will be shocked and surpised at what you're walking into.
Amazing little Gem of a place.
The fit out it exceptional, the pictures make it look cluttered but when inside you will understand the whole venue is fitted out to make you feel like you're in a old ship.
The staff are extreamly good and very Friendly.
Menu is great and the wine list is also excellent. Extreamly good value for money.
My opinions of Drunken Admiral
The venue: 4/5 star
The staff: 4/5 star
The food: 5/5 star
The location: 5/5 (fit out is great and location is the oldest in Australian History)
Value for money 5/5
Overall: 5/5
This is a must do in Hobart.
P. L.
Decorated over the top. Service fast and efficient. Food came quick and fast. The chowder and smoked salmon salad was really delicious. No need to stay for hours. We devoured our selection in less than 30 minutes.
C. N.
Great atmosphere. So much to look at. Seafood is just lovely. Platter for two could feed 3 comfortably. Has a couple of cosy little nooks of two placings if you are after that touch of privacy, table 15 from memory if you are prebooking 😉. Pricing is pretty good. Some may say on the dearer side but the quality is there with what we have tried.
J.
Been here on a number of occasions. Great food and wonderful service ! Tassie scallops, fresh and cooked just right. Depth Finders, hot and wake up your taste buds.. Stripey Trumpeter cooked well, still moist.. Steak was devine, tender, melt in the mouth. Salads were fresh.
T.
Big Oyster selection and they were great, fresh and tasty. Interior so so and service should be better. All together I enjoyed the dinner.
A. T.
Great food good atmosphere, a bit tight for a large group. And would be been 5 stars if not for the near $5 charge to cut up a birthday cake when the bill was already around $650.
B. M.
Best atmosphere and food I've had in a long time. Georgia was fantastic as our waitress, and her service really elevated our evening. Will definitely be back!
J. T.
What a great place!! All the restaurant looks like a boat inside, the food was really good and the service even better. Probably a bit expensive but totally worth it
M. H.
Excellent service meals were awesome
Q. E.
The best fresh fish restaurant we have been to. We have travelled to Hobart from the mainland 3 times and have eaten at this restaurant each time. Cannot fault it at all.
J. L.
Great seasoning plus fresh seafood. Definitely one of the best seafood restaurants I have had in Australia. Will revisit on next trip to Hobart
V. B.
Reservations strongly recommended but I was able to sit at the bar without one and I'm so glad! The sashimi and swordfish were both delicious & the waitstaff and service were excellent! Lovely dinner spot so close to the harbor.
D. J. T. t.
Scallops overcooked . Disappointed really. Nice outlay of decor , interior. Service was good though and waiter did not hesitate to correct the situation. Got a King Island Rib eye nice and cooked to my liking, but a bit fatty . Maybe 3 1/2 ⭐
L. &. M. J.
Awesome seafood, fresh, and great service.
E. P.
Great restaurant with fantastic food. Highly recommend to place a booking prior to the visit.
R. L.
Has to be Australia's most unusually fitted out restaurant! So quirky! Fantastic atmosphere! It's like stepping into a 17th century galleon with ships wheels, boats, tenders, pirates, buoys, lanterns and ropes throughout. Wide variety of seafood, always fresh and prompt service. Reasonable prices, and a good wine list with plenty of Tassie wines as well. Thoroughly enjoyable experience!
C. F.
This place is amazing, first, because of its decoration. You'll find there a huge quantity of antiques, all related to the maritime world. And, above all, excellent sea food. Be informed that everything is XL. Big and yummy. Don't snack before 😁
A.
Food was really good and seafood was very fresh,
But the price was a bit too expensive for the portion.
Staffs were all friendly, the deco was amazing.
Recommend thier grilled seafood
H. D.
Absolutely gorgeous. Everything was top notch, from atmosphere to food. Love this place and will certainly come back next time in Hobart
J. E. V.
Utterly kitschy, and utterly delightful! The maritime theme is everywhere, with plenty of real, fake, and no-one but them knows nautical memorabilia all around, but despite the hectic decorations, the abundance of well spaced tables means you won't feel crowded at all. The staff were delightful, and the atmosphere was fun, without being stressful or chaotic.
The important thing, though, is that the food delivers! Lots of theme restaurants, let's be honest, are more about the razzle dazzle than a good meal- but the seafood chowder here was delicious, and with a more than generous serving size.
D. A. P.
The service is super nice, usually better if you book before, and the fish always tge best option.
A. D.
Top quality fish restaurant. We had an amazing dinner. Although on the pricy side, the culinary experience is top notch. A must visit place for fish and see food lovers.
y. w.
Food was super yummy, especially the grilled ones like the salmon on Hot Rock! Seafood was sweet and fresh! must make sure u make reservation or be ready to wait in the queue!
e. F.
Service was really nice, food was amazing. However, sultan's wok wasn't that good (was a bit too sweet for my taste). Other dishes that we had was really great.
L. N.
Delicious hearty food. Warm and welcoming experience. Seafood chowder and fisherman's pot mains was packed with flavour. You won't feel hungry after dining here.
M. C.
Historic venue built in 1820. Lots of info about the history on the boardwalk out the front.
The seafood was excellent and definitely fresh.
My favourite menu item was the bloody mary oyster shooters. Beautiful creamy oysters that smooth out the tabasco spice.
Give it a go and you want be disappointed.
R. O.
Absolutely amazing! We would have regretted it if we didn’t visit this place. We had the salmon on the rock and the mix seafood grill. We would come back again before we leave tasmania.
多.
Nice decoration is good. Good dish too, very enjoyed having dinner in here!
S. W.
Someone I'd met in passing recommended I go here whilst in Tasmania, and they're recommendation was on point! Amazing atmosphere, and the food was brilliantly served, the staff were helpful and pleasant.
I would definitely go back! The Chowder is amazing!
A. P.
Drunken Admiral is my favourite restaurant to visit while in Hobart. I absolutely love the menu , fresh seafood, awesome staff and great cocktail and wine list . We booked to eat again the following night but unfortunately our boat cruise got in too late and we couldn’t phone in time to cancel. So sorry about that and i look forward to my next trip to Drunken Admiral 10/10 .
P. T. H.
Great atmosphere and settings. It is wonderful that they make a small place into such a nice restaurant. We ordered a big platter for $140 and some wine. Food was plenty but not really met our expectation. Prawns were so so. Fried and hot stuff were only a little bit better than $20-ish fish and chip places. Wine was great tho. Overall the experience was not too bad but way overprice.
A.
friendly staff, nice ambiance (better than most maritime museums) a good taste of Tasmanian seafood (mussels were good. the chocolate ganache with whiskey ice cream - the perfect happy ending) and broad range of tas drinks - from wine to beer, whiskey. can be a little pricey. make sure you are in great company.
G. M.
Prompt and Great service, very unusual restaurant with all the "out at sea" memorabilia. Food is of quality and well prepared
B. R.
Great food and service! Mood and decor of the restaurant is really cool and piratey! Really fun cocktails, highly recommend
V. P.
My favourite restaurant to dine at Constitution Dock, Hobart Tasmania. Food is amazing, themed restaurant is fun and service always friendly. Try the Yachties Grill if you like seafood where you can finish cooking it yourself on the sizzle plate. Delicious!
M. C.
Fabulous food and nails the Seafarers ambience. Take a look around and enjoy the experience. Seafood was stunning with a drinks list too match.
B. H.
Do yourself a favour and get the chowder. It will change your life. One of the best seafood dishes I've ever had. Just amazing. The staff are lovely too. Service was amazing. They are open late ish too which is handy. I was only in Hobart a short while but went back for seconds on that chowder. Highly recommended and will definitely be going back there next time I'm in Hobart. Can get a little busy at peak times though so may want to call to get a table. Good wine and beer list too. Plenty to drink.
P. G.
Nostalgic, excellent food, wine list & service.
Delightful atmosphere. Highly recommended. 🙂
D. S. S.
Love the ambiance and food. Interior is unbelievable. Food is too delicious. I had tried this earlier this year, it was crowded. Has lots of room. Good quality and quantity
c. c. g.
Uncomfortable seating and the meals were so so. Not a huge variety on the menu for someone with allergies like myself. Staff were very nice
M. G.
Lovely place. nice food and good quality service. We are very happy that we came here.
V. M.
The atmosphere was great and oysters and fish cooked lovely.
I have a fond childhood memory of Golden Syrup dumplings and was excited when I saw this on the menu - they were not that nice and a disappointment but I didn’t come here for the desert
Staff were fantastic

Great place for dinner in Hobart.. Definitely coming back for the salmon steak..
J.
Full recommend the Drunken Admiral for anyone who is looking for an old-school seafood tavern kind of a feel.
The good was great and the staff were very attentive. Good atmosphere and fair prices.
c. l.
Fantastic service and food. Beautiful seafood. Very popular place better book in advance.
A. C.
This place was lots of fun. We weren’t sure what to expect but the food was great, yummy cocktails and cosy atmosphere.
J. H.
Great service with yummy food, certainly return next time we are in Hobart. Well done and thank you,
Jan

It was our first visit at this restaurant and we ordered the Seafood Platter for two. The food was excellent and the staff there are friendly, accommodative and the price is very reasonable. The atmosphere is comfortable and It was a wonderful experience.
M. H.
Seafood was fresh and tasty, however, very overpriced for the small portion sizes, left feeling hungry even though we spent $100 - bit of a tourist trap
R. H.
Drunken Admiral is mainly a seafood restaurant and they do it really well. Good food, good service and quirky seafaring decor.
Z. T.
The sizzling mixed grill was fantastic. Although the "fresh" oysters and my partners vegetarian linguine left alot to to be desired.
M. S.
Quite expensive, but very delicious. Although we thought the surf n turf was a bit disappointing for the price.
S. L.
Excellent food, fabulous ambience, the decor is mind boggling. Lastly, the desserts, not to be missed
G. W.
I enjoyed it. The food was lovely and the chowder the best I've had. The kids loved it!
A. G.
Haven’t been here fo years

Staff amazing
See you next time in Hobart!!
J. K.
Very atmospheric restaurant on docks, very friendly staff, good fresh and large servings of local seafood.
M. T.
Brilliant service, delicious food. We had a great night. I'd highly recommend!
R. T.
Great decor and atmosphere. Best steak I’ve ever had! Seafood was pretty good too. Took a while for staff to acknowledge us which was not very welcoming, but apart from that it was a great experience.
N. P.
Just the Best place to visit just once in your life! Hobart has this amazing piece of actual history inside there restaurant!
P. H.
Was told great things, had my hopes up. Food was OK, not worth the price in my opinion. Order got forgotten so had a 50min wait. The staff were nice and the venue has charm. Plenty of better seafood in Hobart in my opinion.
S. S.
What an amazing restaurant. When you walk inside you're transported to another world. The interior has fantastic marine themes you feel like you're dining on a ships deck. There were three of us and we all ordered the Captain's fishpot. This dish is priced on the higher side but it is worth every penny, in fact there's probably enough in it for two people to share and still feel full. Great wine list too. After the deliciously amazing fishpot I couldn't squeeze in dessert even if I wanted too. You're only regret will be going to Hobart and not eating here.
a. F.
We loved the ambience and decor of this place on the waterfront of Hobart.
The food was excellent and value for money.
J. J.
Fantastic food and friendly staff members. Definitely be back next time I'm in Hobart.
J. D.
What a splendid place for a seafood meal. Awesome decor as well. Great spot.
L. S. (.
The food and decor is on another level. Best dining experience in Tasmania.
S. B.
Excellent food, quick service by attentive staff. Fully booked which says it all.
g. c.
Great spot ! Awesome service and food with a superb atmosphere. Can’t wait to come back.
D.
Great seafood just a short walk from the Woolshore apartments very fast ordering system great staff very pleasant attitude very organised.
V. K.
Wasn't as exciting as previously bit I'm blaming covid...
S. F.
Great atmosphere as always with so much to see while you wait for your food, which was served in good time. Excellent drinks list and plenty of seafood on offer with varying prices. The staff were friendly and busy. Meals were filling and tasty. There were 5 of us and everyone enjoyed the experience.
G. B.
Nowhere as good as it used to be. Just a glorified fish & chip shop. Average service and pricey.
a. g.
need booking, either 5pm or 8:30pm, delicious seafood
s. s.
Awesome food awesome staff!
C. M.
We had dinner here and it was enjoyable. The ambience here is great. The restaurant is a delight. The seating is terrific. You are not intruding on other diners, so it is comfortable. …
A. P.
Excellent food, huge portions, perfect cocktails. Definitely will be back!! Highly recommend 👌
V. B.
Reservations strongly recommended but I was able to sit at the bar without one and I'm so glad! The sashimi and swordfish were both delicious & the waitstaff and service were excellent! Lovely dinner spot so close to the harbor.
A. K.
Lovely meals, certainly a decent size. The atmosphere is unique. You get a true feeling of being in the bowels of a tall ship or the like. So many secretive nooks and crannies for that romantic private setting. The service was very friendly and certainly accommodating. I can't believe I've not been there before, its a bit of a hidden gem.
R. L.
Has to be Australia's most unusually fitted out restaurant! So quirky! Fantastic atmosphere! It's like stepping into a 17th century galleon with ships wheels, boats, tenders, pirates, buoys, lanterns and ropes throughout. Wide variety of …
G. S.
Excellent food service was awsome and this cool little seafood restraunt was a great place for my family to have its first dinner in hobart
N. T.
Excellent seafood served in a really interesting restaurant that's packed with maritime memorabilia. The staff were attentive.
T. K. R.
Delicious food, unique atmosphere and good service.
Craving a good seafood chowder and it was delicious.
Waiter was attentive but not too "in your face".
Chips were only ok (frozen French fries), very busy and tables very close.
Overall a good experience.
t. s.
Beautiful atmosphere, fresh seafood and a great selection of wines.
E. R.
Oh Drunken Admiral, you deliciously tacky, adorable thing you. This place is decked (pun intended) out in all things nautical, so much so you can barely move through it. And this is 110% charming.
We got the chowder, Vienna loaf, fried scallops, fresh prawns, and a nice bottle of red. All 'chef's kiss', and all reasonably priced.
Staff were great, service was swift.
G. C.
Best fish and chips of my life. Great and friendly stuff. Highly recommend to book in advanced
P. B.
Excellent food and drink, staff very well informed on local produce and drinks it's a must do in hobart, not cheap but u get what u pay for. Can't wait to come back on my next visit.
振.
This is the best restaurant I think in Tassie, for those who don’t enjoy chips, you can ask if they can be replaced by salad or rice.
C. J.
We got the chowder and the mixed grill. Mixed grill was awesome, a great combination of proteins. The shoestring fries were awesome. The chowder was super creamy, but came out a little on the warm side - would have preferred it to be hotter.
M. H.
Superb food, friendliest staff, great prices, quirky interior. What more do you need.
V. L.
Service is fine, food is so so, Environment is quite dark and crowded. Not very good for Covid protection though.
K.
Hard to get a booking between Christmas and new year. Great atmosphere and menu
R. T.
Had some interstate visitors turn up and were recommended to eat here.
They absolutely loved it and are raving about the Drunken admiral days later.
Recommend to anyone.
Service was outstanding as well as the meals.
Considering one of our party is a non seafood partaker, they were well catered for in the steak chosen.
J. J.
High recommended oysters!!!!!!!!!!!
The oyster is properly seasoned, leaving a pleasant aftertaste in your mouth🥰
I. D.
The wait staff were very attentive and friendly - thank you!
Decor is made to feel like you're in the hull of a ship, lots of cool things to look at.
Had some fresh oysters straight out the Derwent which were phenomenal. Also had the grilled cod which was excellent and came with a good amount of quality house made tartare. The chicken salt on the chips was on point too.
J. T.
Such an original dining experience with al the maritime paraphernalia! But unlike most themed restaurants the focus hasn’t shifted from terrific food and wine selection. Fresh grilled salmon paired with the chowder and fresh oysters was brilliant. The team also answered my call after hours as I’d left my sunnies on the table when leaving. Try it out!
A. R.
Came here years ago on my last trip to Hobart and the food quality is still the same. Not everything (seafood) is locally sourced as you might find in other restaurants but good food and large servings. Price is on the high end.
C. M.
Great place. Friendly staff, great wine list and the food was very nice. The best part is the actual venue, fantastic nautical theme and not to be missed when in Hobart.
A. P.
Excellent food, huge portions, perfect cocktails. Definitely will be back!! Highly recommend 👌
J. N.
Great service from the lovely lady who looked after us. All the meals were very generous in size and I would recommend ordering entree portions if you are a entree, main and dessert kind of person. Would certainly go back the only thing which is a little frustrating is the inability to split a bill. I understand the logic but sometimes it can turn a group away from repeating a visit.
N. G.
A must visit. Food is excellent. Atmosphere even better.
K. &. P. M.
Character pub. Good menu, good food reasonable prices. On the whole a pleasureable experience.
G. T.
Great Dining experience
Yummy food and great service and great atmosphere
L. P.
Not the best seafood dishes we've had but we certainly enjoyed the meals. Good size servings, quick service, great atmosphere and friendly service. Would definitely recommend.
Z. G.
I think the admiral was drunk when he priced the seafood chowder, it was over $30 for a mains serve and tasted like it had tinned tuna in it. I make a better tuna mornay at home but this is almost exactly what this tasted like.
Oysters were $23 for a half dozen, I guess people go here for the atmosphere and tourist trappiness of it.
Staff were lovely, just let down by food a bit.
If I'm paying fine dining price for the food the I'd expect it to be a bit higher standard.
J. H.
Great service and great food. We got the jalapeño poppers, seafood chowder and Belgian chocolate cake, fish and chips. Chowder was amazing! Good atmosphere and so much to look at around you. Parking outside is free after 6pm and there were lots of spaces so it was super handy.
A. B.
We love coming here when in Hobart. Atmosphere is good, so much memorabilia to look at at on the walls cosy little nooks everywhere, themed really well. Original owners and friendly staff. Good is good and service is prompt.
C. A.
Great food and service. Busy place, great nautical Decor.
K. K.
Absolutely best sea food and great feel setup and ambiance
F. S.
Heard so much about them so tried to give them a go.
Food was good, interior was different, but staff behind the register needs to work on his attitude to make it a better welcoming place.
E.
Delicious fare! A predominantly seafood menu with many flavours, food well presented, attentive service and a cozy environment. A table of 8 and everyone enjoyed their meal.
T. T.
Amazing seafood. Could not even finish my seafood curry pot. Never had so much seafood in any dish before. Would recommend. The decore has had a lot of effort put into it to get the naughtical theme
K.
Do yourself a favour and Book in advance to experience this amazing place.
Hot Rock salmon was an absolute standout dish along with their famous chouder and oysters. What an amazing atmosphere. A very unique and exciting experience.
G.
Very impressive nautical theme, and seafood is almost equally impressive. Quite a tight squeeze inside, but this can be forgiven as it fits the theme. Fries and salad could do with some more flavours though.
B. C.
Great atmosphere, delishes seafood. Highly recommended
A. L.
amazing food, attentive staff and amazing decor
P. A.
Let me start by saying, I love chowder. I was very keen to try it after reading all of the glowing reviews. From the first mouthful it was apparent that a lot of the fish had broken down into the chowder, every spoonful was full of threads of fish with some fish still in chunks. I'm used to chowder being creamy, thickened by potatoes, with the fish, seafood or clams added a few minutes before serving to ensure that they are not overcooked. I sent my wife a photo and she said it looked like porridge. An apt description. The service was excellent, the decor was amazingly Kitch and fun.
V. V.
Super busy and popular restaurant for seafood restaurant. Delicious meal and fresh seafood. Recommended. 👍🏻😋🍽
k. t.
Great family restaurant, lots of nautical themes. Food was fresh and tasty and wine selection was a great variety of Australian (mostly Tassie) wineries.
Have been twice and left very satisfied every time.
Would recommend!
C. M.
very fresh and tasty!
f. f.
5 stars from me? There you go. Enough said.
So here is why the Drunken Admiral gets 5 stars.
1.Met at the door and seated
2.Staff super friendly but not in your face.
3. Quick drinks to table and huge range.
4. Food order taken, our needs taken into consideration and quick turn around with food to table.
5. Food was cooked well.
6.Enough food on the plate.
7. Fresh ingredients.
5 star yummness and service.
Well done guys. Next time we are in Hobart we are coming back
G. B.
Nowhere as good as it used to be. Just a glorified fish & chip shop. Average service and pricey.
Y. L.
Must try the Seafood Mixed Grilled and Eye Fillet.
B. W.
Arrived alone, party of one, so sat at the bar. Good consistent service. Bar staff happy to banter. Food was actually OK for Hobart standards. Well themed.
A. H.
Food is good! Not disappointing at all! Worth the money :) must visit when in Hobart
M. L.
Ahoy me hearties. If you like pirates, sailors and anything to do, with ye old days then this is the place to eat. Located on the wharves, great food, ambience and decor. Belgium chocolate dessert is a must. I could spend days just looking at the decorations.
M. H.
Great food and fantastic service. Definitely a great place with lots of charm and something different.
J. V.
Fantastic.
The food was plentiful and delicious. The seafood was so fresh and superbly presented. Great service with nothing being too much trouble.
Split bills are not an issue, even with 10 in our group.
J. C.
Seafood chowder was amazing! Dropped in without a booking and they helpfully found a table for us. Staff were busy but service was great. Can recommend the Bloody Mary Oyster shots too!
D. E.
Loved the atmosphere and the food we got served with (chowder, bread, sizzling mixed grill and the red curry) and the vino too. Will be back to explore others.
S. E.
Great seafood on the pier. The sailing shop theme is great. Make sure you make a reservation.
M. L.
Just simply an awesome food and dining experience at Drunken Admiral. The moment you entered, you feel like you’re in a different world. A must visit for all visitors to Hobart. Huge thanks to our waitress Alycia for making our visit a special one! Again... dont miss this uf you’re visiting.
j. w.
Great food. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere.
L. S.
This place is awesome, the service is efficient, the seafood is fantastic.
R. H.
Good service, nice atmosphere, great food, awesome set up
L. D.
Delicious seafood, doesn’t get any fresher. Friendly and helpful service. Excellent selection on the menu. Fish chowder was very tasty. Seafood grilling on the table was cool to see
J. A.
Made our NYE night by squeezing us in for a last minute booking. Food was delicious and staff were amazing. Super family friendly. We even got a little drawing book and sticker pack to keep our 18month old entertained.
J. H.
Loved the setting and so many choices for food. Service was great as well.
S. M.
A nice dinner at The Drunken Admiral. Both enjoyed the food with Tassie wines.
a. g.
need booking, either 5pm or 8:30pm, delicious seafood
A. V.
Amazing seafood. Succulent oysters, great naval decoration theme. Not to mention the awesome cocktail menu
N. C.
fresh oysters..didnt like the smell inside..food was great..a bit pricey though..
T. H. (.
Seafood Crowder was a bit too salty for my taste, but the salmon was lovely
A. G.
My partner and I visited on a Sunday evening and as soon as we walked in, we were taken back by the amazing interior of the restaurant, haven’t seen anything like it! Of course, being peak season, it was busy- but we were attended to quickly and everyone was so polite and welcoming.
The service was excellent- our waiter was able to recommend us two great dishes for our mains from the special board and my partner loved the beer also! Everything came out so quickly which we were really impressed with.
We had the chowder- amazing, olives- great, swordfish which was so so tasty and... still haven’t chosen our desserts yet- writing this review as we speak!
You have to come to this place when you’re in Hobart - it’s not too fancy, just great food in an amazing location!
K. H.
The seafood pot was fantastic. A signature fish and we could definitely see why.
N. C.
Great chowder. The food is also well priced, of high quality and reasonably sizeable.
J.
I recommend the Mixed Seafood Grill and the Hotrock Salmon. Very tasty. A little bit pricey for what you get but it was a good experience amoung alot of choices in the area
T. T.
Staff was excellent and the atmosphere was really nice. But food is ok and overpriced. I got 4 skewers of seafood on hot stone, they were bland and got charged 40ish$ for that. Wont return 😓!
R. o.
Loved the sea ship atmosphere in this place. The deep fried scallops were my favourite dish. Definitely worth a visit.
M. K.
Amazing environment , atmosphere and friendly staff. Food was ok. Sometimes a little over salted and overcooked, expected a slightly higher standard given the price.
K. O.
Exceptional night out. Meals were phenomenal, service was attentive, polite & not in your face, will definitely be back. Maybe again tonight :)
M.
Excellent service, food was perfect, music and vibe were spot on
C. F.
Great food, excellent service & beautiful drinks! Really happy we chose to spend my partner’s 30th birthday here. Thank you for a delicious dinner!
Q. W.
Only here for the seafood chowder, didnt disappoint, rich flavour and creamy texture, will definitely come back for dinner next time in Hobart.
C. H.
Great oldy worldy, relaxed atmosphere, friendly, helpful and attentive staff, ample choice of seafood dishes.
K. Q.
The food of this restaurant is ok. We ordered a chowder, special fish and chips, oyster and prawn linguine. The chowder is fine, mouth full of seafood, good texture, fresher ingredients would help greatly. Oysters are fine, too. Its quality comes side by side with freshness, therefore not much complaints. The fish and chips’ batter is crispy, maybe a little under seasoned but not in anyway worse than our everyday fish and chips. The linguine is a little greasy and oily. The prawn in the linguine is great, but at the bottom of the dish it forms a little olive oil pond which becomes a little off-putting. This restaurant has warm and friendly staff, good vibe but very average food. It comes with no surprises or wow factors for its price - $158 with holiday surcharge. Overall it’s a restaurant in an attraction location, so it’s pretty good for what it is. You should definitely give it a try if you don’t have your expectations sky high and are after some solid food and good vibe.
J. D.
Great food fast service
M.
The atmosphere was great, really good friendly service. Loads of character. Food came in large servings and was good.
If you're in Tassie worth a visit.
E. E.
Beautiful interior design. Friendly staff. The quality of food was not so great though. I ordered the salmon steak which the sauce was too salty. There is no lobster in the menue!
B. D.
Great restaurant! A must visit if you come to Hobart! One of my favourites!
g. s.
Highly recommended!!! Unique, delicious food, friendly staff and one of the best seafood platter we've ever had in a reasonable price.
H. S.
Has the best seafood chowder I have ever tasted. 10 out of ten
E. B.
Wow! The Seafood Chowder is TO-DIE-FOR. The drinks menu is extensive and amazing. The seafood is off the chart and so fresh! Reasonably priced and very filling. A must do if you’re in Hobart.
C. N.
Kitsch little place worth a visit for the novelty of it, staff were friendly and attentive, food was okay.
l. n.
Do not miss the salmon it is amazing. One tip- you need to flip it as it is cooking on the stone and will get burned if not flipped.
J. W.
Quirky interior, very warm and inviting. The menu had a great variety and the food was absolutely delicious! The four of us left extremely round and satisfied 10/10 guys!!!
J. M.
Amazing fresh seafood and great vibe! Prepare to set sail for tasty nautical niceties :D
Little known fact, if you dress and act like a pirate for the duration of ye meal they give you a discount
G. H.
Great food and even better atmosphere. Service was excellent.
Make sure the Drunken Admiral is on your "to do list" when visiting Hobart.
M. G.
Seafood restaurant. If you love seafood definitely go. $130 for the seafood basket. A couple glasses of wine and some desert tops it off perfectly.
L. P.
Great funky ship themed restaurant with amazing food.
O. E.
It was a cold and rainy night and we were welcomed at the door to a warm friendly atmosphere. Take some time to soak up all the boating memorabilia! The food itself I could not fault. My daughters fish and chips were so fresh! I ordered a sizzling plate of four different seafood on skewers which you had charge of cooking yourself. This was so much fun! We also ordered a nice bottle of champagne to share. Overall I was very impressed and will definitely be going back there in the future!
A. E.
Definitely a one-time restaurant. The fish was fresh, however the salmon was overcooked. We also ordered Greek salad, lots of herbs and just a few tomatoes and feta cheese.
G. N. C.
Great food but wish there was better lighting
H. H.
Ive been twice, I will definitely be back! The restaurant is in an great spot for the food as its mainly seafood based, the portions are big but not to big. The atmosphere as soon as you walk in is alive and takes you back with all the older memorabilia scattered litterly everywhere! The food is perfect, my partner and i have had different meals each time with it being perfect each time. I would highly recommend the Saultan's wok.
D. M.
Absolutely awesome !!!! Very kitschy went with my son and his girlfriend and food was great stepped out of my comfort zone and had the whole surf and turf..
L. 9.
Had a really great meal here, awesome setting for a night out with friends and family! Will definitely be back.
j. j.
Beautifull themed restaurant with all the staff dressed up. Seafood wasnt great but still worth a visit just to see the place
B. U.
Definitely a yummy seafood and fresh. If you are in Hobart, I would recommend it. Great decor and great stuff. We struggled to get seats at times and even though most food were great, it wasn't all up to five stars, so choose at your own risk
B. W.
Great food, friendly staff. The big Sydney-Hobart platter is damn big...
C. W.
Good food, great service! Can’t ask for more.
L. E.
Great atmosphere, excellent food, great restaurant for someone visiting.
t. a.
Special restaurant design, friendly staff, excellent food
M. N.
Amazing seafood!!! We visited the Drunken Admiral on a Monday night and it was busy but they managed to find us a table. We ordered a range of fresh and cooked seafood and it was all delicious. The staff were attentive, the drinks list was extensive and well priced and the food was well priced also. Really fun "decor" and great history to boot. Totally recommended.
G. E.
This restaurant is quite unique, it is like a rabbit warren filled with old time memorabilia which creates a great ambiance. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with my meal, as my salmon was overcooked.
y. s.
nice restaurant. you can eat good seafoods here, and meals are not so expensive. I recommend that you should book the table before come here.
T. P.
So much nautical memorabilia to see, you almost forget about the great seafood!
M. H.
A Hobart institution. Fresh and tasty seafood. When you walk into the heritage building you will think you've stepped back in time - onto an old ship.
T. S.
Cool place, has been decorated so well, vita really fun. Plus the seafood was awesome.
M.
Pleasantly surprised by the quality of this restaurant! Absolutely DELICIOUS grilled seafood and steak, the smells alone were invigorating. The atmosphere is inviting and very cosy. Our waiter the brown-haired young lady who attended our meals made us feel extremely taken care of . Excellent service!
5 STARS WILL COMING AGAIN
D. S.
Unique place on the water that offers a good seafood menu. Rather quriky inside, with attentive staff and many options.
S. A.
This restaurant has a special atmosphere. You will be served by friendly and attentive staff at this restaurant. Food was really good, specially the seafood curry. Dessert was amazing.
s. n.
Food was so lovely!! service was very quick and staff are very friendly.
S. B.
Restaurant was busy with a good atmosphere. We didn't have a booking buy they accommodated us for a table for 2. The menu is fantastic. Lots of choice. The salmon tagine and fish hot pot were amazing! Healthy, full of flavour and very generous serves. I would highly recommend.
W. H.
Excellent seafood here. Often can get fish caught the same day. Great atmosphere too. Would recommend for any occasion. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The platter for two on the mains menu is fantastic, with fresh octopus in a awesome marinade. Local oysters and huge fresh prawns, salmon, scallops and fish. The mixed seafood grill option is excellent, as is the chowder, which is freshly made. Would recommend booking in advance.
J. P.
Excellent setting but over priced food. The meal was enjoyable and the fish was good too however I feel as though it was overpriced for what it was. $15 for three fried chillies and $42 for fish and chips is just too steep in my opinion. I have had better fish and chips at a quarter of the price.
M. C.
This Resturant was amazing!! The food was delicious and tasty. There is a variety of foods and large portions for the family. Service from Lauren was very kind and helpful; giving us lots of options and nice food choices. The environment was very nice and unique. Overall it is highly recommended. We love our dessert too!
From Ruby and Rachel
C. P.
Fabulous food and most amazing atmosphere created with all ship type decor and nic nacs!
D. E.
Fabulously Superb Seafood Meals and Service.
S. O.
West near the door and it was cold with people coming in to see if seats were available. Good food and service, but a bit cafe style to get you in and out.
R. “.
Very expensive food for what is just pub food. Salmon steaks looked impressive. Great interior, lots of nortical brick-a-brack.
s. s.
Awesome food awesome staff!
P. W.
You can't get a more nautical fit out than this! It does feel like you've stepped inside a theme park, but the food and service is good. Being down on the waterfront it is busy and popular with tourists, which is reflected in the menu pricing.
A. D.
Great inside, and very friendly helpful staff, but perhaps a bit more effort could be made on the dishes. Prices need to reflect the food.
M. C.
There really isn't too many restaurants open after 8.30pm on a Saturday night but thank goodness for the Drunken Admiral. Food was excellent and the atmosphere was out of this world. Great service and a definite place to return to when next in Hobart.
C. T.
Nice restaurant for drink and dine. Good decoration.
F. N.
Delicious food, oysters are so fresh and sweet
m.
The decor and atmosphere are brilliant. The layout is tight but it works really well - compact without being uncomfortable. The food is always very good but never outstanding; for the price I'd expect slightly higher standards. The food and drinks menu are both broad, the dessert menu is great and the service is good. This seafood restaurant is definitely worth a visit.
S. F.
The salmon was cooked perfectly, most enjoyable. Lovely young waitress was very attentive to our needs.
F. a.
The Drunken Admiral restaurant in Hobart is one of the best seafood restaurants in the area. Screaming with personality, dining out with someone here will certainly leave an impression. From the moment you open the door to the old boat museum themed foyer, to stepping into a booth crafted out of a wooden dingy, you are put straight into a different time. A time of sea shanties and pillaging - a time of pirates and steamships. Throughout your journey on the high seas, you will enjoy the subtle beats of modern-age renditions of swing and pop music.
On the menu you have the choice of any conceivable fish or crustacean that can be cooked. (Within reason, of course!). With creative names for everything, it can provide almost anyone a slight chuckle. The food is absolutely divine, and the price reflects that.
Overall, definitely worth a visit if you want some excellent seafood in a cosy and character-filled place!
s. s.
Bit overcrowded meal great prices not to bad
H. R.
Another great night for dinner with friends, Drunken Admiral has been so consistently serving great food with great wait staff for the last 20 years that my family have been coming here that we cannot visit Hobart without visiting the D.A
Thanks for a great dinner
C. A.
Amazing place with quirky items around every corner, a mini museum. Our waiter Mitch last night was sensational- helpful with food selection and drinks suggestions and very professional and approachable in one! Yummy food cooked well and filling. It's why we keep coming back each time we're in Tassie! 😍
L. I.
What a fun and quirky restaurant experience. Lots to look at with the pirate theme. The food was excellent and tasty. I would highly recommend the chowder and the mixed grill. The salmon skewers were superb! The oyster shooters were cool too!
M. R.
Loved the quirky maritime memorabilia and the seafood hotrock!
B. F.
Great theme decoration, wonderful service, and the seafood chowder was fantastic
S. B.
I visited Tasmania for a week in 2019 and it started with a trip to this fine restaurant. I have to say that it would have been a perfect trip to Tassie just for the meal. The seafood skewers were amongst the best I've had, the seafood was so fresh. The salmon croquettes were to die for. The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Couldn't recommend this restaurant more. Well worth the price of admission. Will definitely be back!
B. M.
Since I only have the fish chowder and bread I feel it would be unfair to try and give a 5 star. But then it occurred to me how unlikely it is all those food places that get 5 stars had every meal eaten.
What was great was the service, the food and surroundings and the wonderful company I had.
Great fish chowder excellent bread and a fun and interesting place to eat.
H. t.
What an amazing experience! My partner and I arrived in Hobart and were recommended this place. The food was amazing, the steak and the hot stone salmon is highly recommended! Our waitress with the tattoo sleeve was so lovely and accomodating which made our experience with this restaurant that much more enjoyable!
N. R.
Yarr! When ye old tummy rumbling like the high seas at midnight, wrap ye gills around the wicked seafood! It'll blow the barnacles off ye loins. Be wary of the Admirals tea, it seduces ye like a mermaid, but too many and ye end up in treacherous waters. X marks the spot right here, this place is ye treasure.

My Moroccan salmon and the fish pot that my wife got were both REALLY delicious. But we didn’t see our server at all after the food arrived. That’s over 30 minutes without anyone stopping by. We would’ve ordered dessert but nobody seemed to care! Still, our initial meal came out fast and was wonderful.

This place is amazing. Really love the seafood pot and the vibe here!! Me and my other two friends went here for dinner. We ordered three dishes with some alcohol, added up to AUD50/ person.

Good ambience. Service is standoffish and experienced that from several waitresses. Food is expensive for what it is. I ordered the admiral's fish pot and was not really impressed. I have had better at cheaper joints. I guess its worth a try.

We had the best seafood feed and the waitress was absolutely lovely. Actually pretty good value for money also and awesome set up inside. For sure would be going back again if we ever came back down to Tassie!

Four very happy people dined here this evening. We all had different meals and when I asked for my salmon to be pink in the middle it was suggested the salmon on the hot rocks would be a better choice. What a wonderful surprise it was to have the salmon not only melt in my mouth, but be so full of flavour. Another table member had the chowder and said it was the best he has ever had. The swordfish and the seared salmon, ordered from the other guests, was cooked to perfection. All staff were happy, attentive and professional. If we were not heading home across the country tomorrow we would happily return for another meal.

Was in town for a short work trip and decided to dine here after reading reviews- must say I was disappointed with the quality of food! Ordered their special- crumbed blue eye with wasabi mayo and shoestring fries- fish was still very oily and the fries were a dismal failure- just store bought frozen fries, I was expecting better given the prices of the menu!
Dessert was the special too, whilst it was better than the main the flavour combination didn't go very well.
Plus side are the good and prompt service.
Will skip this and head to Muir's next time instead!

Brilliant food; great service and friendly staff. We were in Hobart recently for a week and we started to look at different places to have dinner but we soon found ourselves going back to the Drunken Admiral - good menu options, fresh and tasty food with excellent table service - Loved It

The best smoked oysters I've ever had. They really were amazing and paired perfectly with a Tassie sparkling.
Host was a bit stressed in seating our group of 4 adults and 3 kids as tables are a bit tight together and they had alot of upcoming reservations but got us in and the servers were friendly.

Terrific old world feel with a great seafood menu.

Had a great time. The atmosphere is amazing. I couldn't keep the smile of my face looking at all the objects. The waiters were always on the ball and gave great insight into the meals they were serving. Definitely coming back.

Seafood was fantastic highly recomnend this restaurant. We went for my birthday and now we are planning another trip to Hobart just to eat at the Drunken Admiral again. The seafood grill was sooo good and the crab and prawn gnocchi was great. The admirals iced tea cocktail served in a parrot you have to try.

Classic and unique seafood dishes with seasonal influence. Generously decorated with nautical memorabilia throughout which some may find tacky. The staff were kind and patient. Food does not disappoint but will not blow you out of the water. Could have used more seasoning in most dishes. Prices reflect more its popularity rather than quality of the dishes.

Remembered this one, dine sometime ago. Amazing interior design with lots of character depicting an old sailing ship. The food was fabulous and generous. Slightly pricier. Air-conditioned. The servers was helpful and attentive. Would probably come again if visiting Hobart.

It was absolutely amazing. Jake's service is a credit to his amazing ability to sell food i wouldn't normally order but really enjoyed. Multicultural dining experience that we have already talked costantly about since leaving. Credit and thanks to all, loved the depth charges. Thank you, thank you and thank you. See you again soon.

The oysters were great. Expensive cocktails.

Great service great quirky atmosphere and excellent seafood

Spoilt for choice so our waiter (we think was management) gave us his top 5 to help us choose. After we finally chose the fish chowder and the admirals fish pot, we were served with additional bowls and cutlery in case we wanted to share (much appreciated!) both the best sea food dishes we’ve had the pleasure of eating 🤤. We shared a chocolate cake and a Glass of Sullivan’s cove French oak cask single malt, both a perfect end to a perfect meal. The service was consistently 5 * throughout.

Despite us not having a booking, helpful staff even found us a table on busy Valentine evening, our last eve in Tassie after a 4 week trip.
Fascinating decor, intimate surroundings, Fabulous menu and wine list. Highly recommended. Established under current owners in 1979. They know their work!

Their seafood chowder was so beautiful and their steak was actually better than the one we had in town. Great service. Awesome food & wine selection. We will definitely come back. Thanks so much for a great night!

Fantastic atmosphere and meals once again👍👍👍

When the shared seafood platter says it should be shared by 2 people at most places, you order a bit more on the side just in case.
At the Drunken Admiral however, the platter is more than enough for the Captain and all his Pirate friends...... and it is great!
The prawns and oysters are fresh and superb.
Highly recommend

The Drunken Admiral was our very first dining experience in Tasmania and it was absolutely magnificent! The salmon dishes and seafood chowder were unique and truly delicious. Maritime antiques + great food = an unforgettable meal!

Recommendation from bus guide and it was wonderful. Food was amazing, staff were friendly. Great value.

Fabulous fresh seafood, great ambiance and service. Money well spent and not too pricey for such fresh and fantastic seafood.

Atmosphere great. Staff and service very friendly and efficient. Meals reasonably priced and although not memorable/excellent were as stated and okay.

The food was sensational, I ordered the mixed sizzeling grill with calamari, prawns, scallops an king fish came out on skewers accompanied with chips and salad it came to the table still cooking and omg the oysters Kilpatrick were so fresh. Wow wow wow. Next time I'm back will defiantly come back to try another dish.

Amazing nautical atmosphere. Great seafood done simply allowing the flavours to shine through. Staff were enthusiastic and easy to engage with. Loved the experience

Best chowder south of the equator - do not miss! Wonderful boat-themed ambience and friendly staff but the food trumps it all! Loved the experience. Highly recommend.

It's not the "Hobart fine seafood dining experience" an out-of-state visitor might expect from something located in such a prime position, but as a family dining venue it pretty much nails it.
Kids will love it for the atmosphere and decoration. As an adult, the food is fine, but not much above average.
M. S.
Kilpatrick oysters and salmon gravlax were enjoyable, and the service was nice.
The prawn linguine on the other hand was clumsy, Ill-thought out and underwhelming. It’s what you might expect from a shopping centre cafe back in the mid 90’s.
The fish hot pot served as a re-purposing of ordinary fish and prawn bits unable to make it into other dishes. The flavours were not delicate, nor was the price at $45.
A not-cheap but cheerful place suited to kids or groups where food is not the topic of conversation. A bit of a tourist trap. 3 stars.

I had the Hot Stone Salmon, it was so fresh and delicous. The decor was so fun! Great family atmosphere. It feel like you're sitting in a ship! Quite busy. Make sure to book a table.

Unique place located at the waterfront Hobart. A must visit resturants in TAS. Interior was designed as a pirate ship. A wonderful atmosphere. Staff is very friendly. It's better to make a reservation prior walking in, cause this place gets pretty occupied. Food was great and the prices are reasonable as well. Well worth the visit.
S. Y.
the staffs were friendly except they kept asking you to order (i know there was very busy which i understood) but the food was really just average... the chips were cold.... but the restaurant itself was really amazing, interesting. so you pretty much paid for the atmosphere but dont expect too much for the food.
C. V.
Absolutely loved this place! When my partner and I ate here, we were recommended by his step father who eats here everytime he flys down. We ate here almost every night as I was so obsessed with the Hot Rock salmon! The service was great along with the set up. If you eat here that is what you have to try, along with pairing the tolpuddle Chardonnay!

Great atmosphere, unique design, and great food. Must visit when visiting Hobart.

Really great experience here. Food fantastic with a very efficient kitchen putting out dishes of the highest quality. The Chowder is a must. Great respect for the chefs skill and standard of food service. A real art dobe real well.

A tourists delight or a great local venue to go with extended family? It's both. This venue has some real history behind it and it's displayed on the walls in the form of carvings and pictures. The atmosphere is cozy whether the venue is full or empty. The staff are welcoming and try to accommodate every request. The Drunken Admiral is in a tourist hot spot but they don't charge excessively for the amount of food they provide. Come with an appetite or pop in for a nibble and you won't be disappointed. Looking forward to suggesting to friends and family the fish chowder.

Cute little place. The seafood chowder was amazing! But the fish and chips were average. It was confusing/concerning how quick all the food came out though. Within 5 minutes of ordering everything was at the table.
B. T.
Great service, food was good pub food

My favourite restaurant in all of Australia... visited many times and today certainly didn't disappoint! Amazing seafood in a wonderful setting. Great finale for our family holiday.

Homey nautical atmosphere. Ordered fried olives, chowder, oysters kilpatrick, chilli mussels and blue eye special. Excellent broad alcohol menu. Rich hot chowder - one of the best. Fresh, large and flavourful oysters. Interesting presentation of tempura olives. Fish excellent but very generic salad and fries added. Service was very attentive. Bill very reasonable.

A great experience and wonderful food. The place has a great feel. It reminds me of the inn described in Treasure Island. The décor is fantastic, really adding to the marine theme. By the water and centrally located, this is a must see if in Hobart.
R. M.
Ambiance 10/10, Staff 10/10, Meal 3/10, Crumbed chicken breast strips were DRY as a pommies bath towel. Salad was an insult to the word salad. Menu was very limited and grossly overpriced. Been there, done that, won't be back.
S. H.
What an awesome place!!!! Everyone should check this place out.... Not only do they have great table service but the food is to die for.
Great ambience, feels like you are dining on a ship but with total privacy.... Well done to this family run business - we will definitely be back when we are in Hobart next time😊😊😊😊😊😚😚😚

Food was succulent and the venue is great for a meal either for a date , family or group eating. If groups book a table I suggest . It is pricey though but I suppose worth it if you don't do it all the time . Enjoy !

I used to absolutely love this place. It used to be that nothing was a hassle. However this time, I got a market tasting plate that came with 3 natural oysters, when I asked if they could be done as a cooked alternative I was told no because they come in lots of 6 in the kitchen and they can't split them. However they obviously split them because the plate only comes with 3. I would have been happy to pay a little extra and wait a little longer, as was the rest of the table (my family), for them to be cooked to order. I do understand this makes things a little out of order for the kitchen, but hey guys, guess what? You're in the service industry and meeting customers requests is part of that.
T. T.
Service was great even with a full house! 3rd page halfway down with the red curry seafood. That dish was amazing with plenty of seafood to share with 2 hungry people.
J.
Great set up inside, food was OK, great for a romantic night.
M. M.
Great food and the serving sizes are good. They make one of the best seafood chowders I've ever had. You'll need to book a table to get in at a decent time though.
R. O.
Pretty dissappointing this time. I have had better at this restaurant. The chowder was bland and the fish was over cooked.

INCREDIBLE food!! A novel place, soaked in history, great for groups, family, or anyone looking for delicious and affordable seafood with tasty twists.
Ask the staff for their very own ghost stories, if you are not convinced enough by this building's history records!

Delicious food with nice decoration

Chill atmosphere and cozy surrounding. Food is very respectable but not cheap. The sizzling skewer platter was excellent but the steak was quite overcooked and sent back. Staff were unfused and the steak was excellent on the second try.
R. B.
Great family restaurant. Good food freshly cooked. Great choice. Staff friendly.

Absolutely delicious food. Chowder outstanding ! Fantastic Customer Service from Lauren who also recommended wine to accompany my meal. Will definitely be back.

It's all about the Blue Fin Sashimi, the Hot Rock Huon Salmon and sharing the Chowder w- hot fresh Vienna loaf.
Just one oyster shot and a trip to the Head via The seat of Ease.
A remarkable venue with great Tassie Seafood.
Well priced for the food quality.

Wonderful place great prices!!! AMAZING FOOD!!!

Fantastic restaurant with real old world charm. From the moment you walk in the door you begin the dining experience. Your normally need to book even though there a couple of sessions each night. This is one restaurant we take first time visitors to Hobart.
