Fantastic cafe, Peter is a happy & cheery chef only too happy to chat with the customers, the food is very tasty and made from very fresh ingredients. Would highly recommend this place to all customers!

A warming place to sit down. Enjoyed watching the chef cooking. the food was delicious! Amazing! I will come here every time when I come to Hobart.

A MUST TRY cafe for traditional Italian food!
The cannolis are just like they are in Italy.
Such a cool interior watching the chef cook. Great and friendly service. And the coffee is amazing.

Absolutely amazing customer service, beautiful food, coffee and tea. Great little cafe to start your morning!
Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys a good breakfast and good company 💯

I would so be a regular if I lived in Hobart. This Father Son team are gold. The cafe is an open kitchen with Dad cooking bacon and eggs to your liking whilst chatting to customers sitting at the bar style setting. Son is quiet but lovely and a fine barista. I think the Dad's name is Michael, one thing I wont forget is the quality and service dished up consistently.

Absolutely loved Ed’s Cafe. We got coffee here everyday whilst we were in Hobart. The food is incredible and everyone is so friendly. Very relaxed vibe and it was great getting to see our (delicious) lunch being made in front of us. Definitely coming back again!

A lovely experience. Felt like you were at a friend's having a meal cooked for you. Meatballs were great. Everyone enjoyed their meal.

Best cannoli in Hobart!
An oasis to escape and have a meal or dessert prepared right in front of you. All in an intimate setting, by a man who is passionate about providing service and culinary excellence to his patrons! Highly recommend!

I meant to leave a review of Eds Spuntino for months! We visited when we were in Hobart in April. The food was amazing, best pasta I've had. Everyone here was so friendly, we arrived close to closing just hoping we'd be in time to grab a coffee. The owners father was in the kitchen. Whipped up a meal in no time right in front of us, and was happy to chat away with us. Generous slice of lemon polenta cake afterwards. We've spent a fair bit of time in Tassie on trips but this was hands down the best meal we've had there.

Friendly staff and very tasty food. It was such an amazing experience to see him cook right in front of you

Stunning traditional italian. Carbonara was an absolute stand-out, not to mention the special request Puttanesca. Supporting wine list also great + the espresso to seal it all in.
Well done Ed and Peter

Ed's Spuntino Cafe and Bar is our new favourite place in Hobart!
My partner and I were visiting from Launceston and came across Ed's on their first open Friday night and we are so glad that we did! Today is Sunday and we have already been back to visit twice! The atmosphere is very friendly and inviting. There is a delicious selection of food that is prepared with local produce right before your eyes. Pete has exceptional customer service and really contributed to our amazing experiences. Even during a very busy Sunday breakfast trade, Pete kept a warm smile on his face and enjoyed interacting with his customers. This is a place that you can't miss - we are going to visit every time we come back to Hobart!
Thank you Pete, Ed, and team!

One of the greatest lgbtqia+experiences of my life. Great food, great humour and the beady eyed chef is the hottest man in Hobart

One of the best places for coffee and the food doesn’t get much fresher as it’s cooked in front of you while you wait. Ed and Rob were fabulous hosts and it felt like we were in their home at their dinner table. Delicious!!!
A unique experience if you are looking for something out of the ordinary.
Thank you, we will definitely be back next time we are in Hobart.

Without doubt the best cafe in Hobart. Ed's started up in early 2020, right in the middle of COVID, so they had a "soft" opening. Ed and Pete, father and son run the shop, with Ed doing your drinks and Pete doing the cooking. You get to sit at their metal bench, watch Pete cook your food and enjoy the conversations that naturally take place. Pete keeps his fare simple but by god he makes simple oh so nice. Without doubt the best carrot cake I have ever tasted, and its so big I joke that they can see it from the International Space Station. The cafe itself has a very historical feel about it with stone walls. Well worth a visit but be careful on a Sunday morning because the nearby Farm Gate Markets on Bathurst St mean that Sunday's are their busiest days. Well worth a visit.

I rarely do a rating/review. However, I felt compelled to do this one. Ed’s stands out in most respects. The coffee is consistently excellent. Even the decaf is good. Better than many regular coffees, according to my wife. The food, which ranges from freshly ( in the true meaning of the word ) prepared meals to the outstanding carrot cake muffins ( with or without topping ). The ambience is also original and genuine. The best Hobart has to offer.

Very good coffee and foods, friendly chef, highly recommend to drop by if you in Hobart

Exceptional coffee, friendly atmosphere, delicious food, what's not to like. Would highly recommend
C. G.
great service and the food is so scrumptious.

This place is fantastic, I have never seen an espresso bar/ restaurant like this before in Australia (maybe that is my ignorance). It is how I would imagine restaurants small and sweet in europe. It is great coffee and delicious good quality food. a must for Hobartians
C. M.
Great service, food and coffee and highly recommended. 😀
J. S.
As always Ed's will make you smile. A real favourite- but don't be in a rush 😊 5/5 relaxingly unrushed meatballs
K. M.
Absolutely sensational food + experience, so much so we returned within days to squeeze another meal in before leaving Hobart! The cooking is next level, good pricing, fantastic service. Only wish it was in my home town.

An exquisite meal. The young man making the coffee is a fine specimen with excellent shoulders. Making this old queer enjoy his coffee. The chef makes up for his lack of physical attraction with a witty repartee, a beady eyed man with a clear excitement for his cooking. The meat balls were perhaps the best I've had in the past decade. Overall a magnificent experience.
J. G.
Best meal of my trip to Tasmania! Thanks for having us guys.
J. G.
A unique place has it all. The ambiance, excellent coffee, and amazing food prepared by chef/owner Pete with so much affection. The whole experience really brought back warm memories of family meals. Thank you so much, guys!

I had a birthday dinner at Ed’s with some friends and it was fantastic! Peter was making tagliatelle in front of us and we had shared the meatballs, lasagna and penne and finished off with tiramisu. The food, ambience and service was just the best and I can’t wait to go back again!!

Formerly the haunt of Small-Fry and Rhys this location is now called Ed's Spuntino. Spuntino, for the lexicographer means "snack".
This is now a father son endeavour and while I was there with my daughter the atmosphere was quiet. We chose scrambled egg, a spare plate and it was done in an unhurried manner. Such a simple dish and served simply with a Roma tomato, lightly seasoned and a side of buttery Imago seeded bread. Topped off with a cup of tea it was a perfect snack. Absolutely delicious.
This is a very unique location and situation with the chef exposed in both food prep and cooking from start to finish. I think it takes a brave person to be able to put their skills on show and hold court with their clientele. I'm so glad this location has a new lease of life.

In town for a few days and was lucky to find this gem on day 1 and have been back each morning since. While not an extensive breakfast menu it is cooked fresh in front of you. I've had the big breakfast, the 3 cheese omelet, and the breakfast roll, all with perhaps the best coffee in Hobart. A great find, open from 6:15am I would assume it gets busy around 8. I couldn't recommend this little café kitchen more highly. Thanks fellows.
G.
If you’re lucky they’ll make and cook your pasta from scratch in front of you. I’m obsessed with the tagliatelle and the meatballs are incredible and a point of interest. I don’t drink much but they seem to have a good collection of Italian wines. I would return again and again !
L. H.
Took us a while to find the best coffee in Hobart, but once we found Ed's we went there three days in a row! A father and son team, with delicious, wholesale food and a personalised feel. You can't go wrong here!
B. E.
An intimate dining experience with incredible value. The food is devine and I could not recommend more highly to anyone who is passing through Hobart.
R.
Best coffee and pasta in Hobart, no other venue can beat the atmosphere you get here. Takes you back home.
E. M.
My boyfriend and I were quite literally lost for words after visiting Ed’s. We were feeling homesick and hungry (a lethal combination) before popping in for a coffee, which turned into a meal and some wine, and then some dessert to take home (thank you again). The whole experience felt like sitting at a family member’s kitchen bench while they cooked you up something restorative - think something your nonna would make but with some serious, restaurant-level culinary mastery. Good, affordable food with heart, it’s now hands down our favourite place in Hobart.
A.
Great little Cafe, best coffee in the CBD!
Excellent customer service, friendly atmosphere, classy decor.
Food wise I haven't tried much, Italian style with high quality ingredients. Would love to see some vegetarian options in the future. Well worth a visit.
T. L.
A phenomenal concept, a father and son that make you coffee and breakfast as if you were in their own home kitchen. Both make you feel so welcome inside and their excitement for what they do is infectious. Both the coffee and food were sensational.
L. B.
Best spaghetti carbonara I’ve ever had. The quality of the ingredients shines through but the chef’s talent has a little to do with it! Delicious crispy guanciale in an unctuous eggy sauce, no cream here.
Ed’s coffee is perfect too.
On another visit I had a fruit muffin, home made of course.
It’s a fantastic space with just the right ambiance, nice and casual.
Well-priced wine list with quality Italian and Tasmanian offerings (Moorilla).

Excellent. The atmosphere is phenomenal and the guys who run it are welcoming and accommodating. Very limited capacity, though I'm yet to not find a seat, even when in a group of 5.
K. C.
Great food and coffee. Super relaxed and lovely owners who treat you like old friends.
