Comments of Hursey Seafoods
M. T.
Not a bad location, some nice views of the ocean and sand. Wide selection of seafood available, nothing overly exotic however this is probably so you enjoy the seafood itself. The crayfish was decent sized, my wife had the half small, and the fish of the day was flathead which was great!
A. R.
Staff friendly and helpful. Prices were quite good. Had half Cray with chips and salad and citrus sauce and Val's Seafood Basket. All very nice. Good prices. Only let down was squid but hey everything else was delightful. Ensure you visit either the restaurant or take away.
H. S.
Fantastic dining experience.
Lots of options on the menu.
Reasonably priced.
Delicious food- the lobster was so fresh presented nicely.
Atmosphere was clean and comfortable with nice views.
A. C.
The seafood was fresh and was flavourful. The dishes were crafted in a way that it let the seafood shine. I would recommend the garlic prawns and the crayfish and fresh oysters. Staff was a little inattentive. Not coming over to see if we wanted more drinks or offer more water. We ordered an entree size supreme crayfish and wanted to change it to a main size which the staff advised they were unable to do.

The food was amazing, the attitude from a young staff member not so much. Very slow to get our meals, but worth it in the end.

To be honest was a little disappointed in my meal. Hubby said his supreme scallops was nice, however came with fries, no bread to mop up the left over curry and no spoon either in case you wanted to finish it off. I had the salt n pepper calamari, sorry but it lacked flavour, was a bit chewy and the salad that came with it, was not sure if it was a packet one but tasted a bit like it, there was not much dressing and the aioli sauce was minimal. Dessert was advertised as brandy baskets but one small one turned up, if you are going to advertise baskets in plural, deliver plural baskets. Golden syrup dumplings were nice but a bit cluggy in the middle.. Nice atmosphere, not noisy, however I did expect a bit more from a seafood restaurant.
B. L.
Food was amazing, pricey but amazing. The wait staff were okay, just doing what they had to. The décor looks out of place for this beautiful historic town, too modern and clinical. Personally I think a more rustic cozy, old fishing style pub look would make this place world renowned , the seafood is excellent.
C. K.
Lovely seafood. Meal was delicious. Only negative to many chips and tartar sauce would have been nicer if homemade. Definitely would stop there again. Lady who served me nice 🙂
m. h.
Spectacular view and sunny weather made my day!
The lobster is good but price spikes up a bit as now lobster with mornay and garlic need extra $5 dollars and the proportion of salad and chips seem smaller than it used to be. And tomato sauce charges $2 as well but the waiter didn’t mentioned to me until I found out in the bill....quite disappointing~

Should book on the weekends, gets pretty popular. Also if you want crayfish sashimi apparently needs a two-hour notice which isn't advertised on the menu. We came for the food and not for the service.
We had both takeaway fish and chips and sit down dinner. Food is great (except for the oysters).
Fish and chips: excellent! The best chips ever. Fish was nicely battered and crispy. Loved the calamari rings and good prawns.
Takeaway Oysters: very disappointed... they were disintegrating in their own shells...
Dinner food: Beef and cray was excellent, the steak was cooked to perfection. I'm always fearful for overcooked scallops, however the chef has done it well, tender and buttery. Salt & pepper squid was very good but the crispy noodle accompanying it was very weird, not a fan.
Dinner service: we had to ask for menus after sitting down for a while, and still didn't receive the drinks menu, ended up grabbing ourselves. The one waitress taking orders never came back to our table so we had to wave down the bar waitress, she was good.
Overall, would come back for the food minus the oysters.

Lunch today was stunning. Half large fresh lobster with chips and salad was delicious. The beef and reef was also so good. Topped with high quality scallops, prawns and salmon. Amazing value sparkling wine as well. The service was sensational by the kitchen but especially by the front of house waitress, Jordan and her able assistant. They were being smashed by the number of people that had come to eat. Obviously the management hadn't counted on the number of diners. Jordan remained calm, efficient and still able to be friendly and smiling. Congratulations Hersey Seafood. You've got great produce and fantastic staff. If I could I'd give you 6 , but 5 is the max. I forgot to mention the view. Perhaps that would make it 6.5. Cheers.

Really nice sea food. Ok you pay for it, but I don't mind paying for really nice Tucker and it was nice. We had a good view of the bay from the table and most tables were near a window with a view. If in Stanley, go there, but be prepared to pay for quality. Very good food

Obviously the crayfish was the hero which is their specialty, super fresh. The pan seared garlic butter crayfish was perfect. Nice staff and great location too.
R. M.
Best seafood outlet and restaurant in Stanley, this place is a must if you after the best and freshest seafood available.
M. H.
Wonderful seafood, freshly caught. A nice outlook on a decent day. And friendly service. One of the better seafood spots you'll find in Tasmania.
C. G.
Was nice and brought a little smile on my face but it was not overwhelming because the quality/freshness of the different items varied significantly
I had the Tasting Platter with a medium half lobster. The calamari pieces where very nice. 5 Stars for them. Very soft with a light bite. Just perfect.
The pickled octopus was nice but a bit chewy and despite pickled a bit fishy smelly and tasty.. 3.5 stars. Should be more seawater flavour if at all as a pickled octopus.
The steak pieces where beautiful, just cooked to perfection. 5 stars for them too.
The Oysters.... 😒 definitely not the freshest of the freshest. 2.5 stars. Edible but not what I would expect from a restaurant like this.
The lobster was okay. Met my expectations but didn't exceed it either. Again I doubt the freshness that is advertised. But I'd say good enough. 4 stars.
Scallops, nice and as expected but again, didn't exceed by a bit.
Staff..... well yes, polite, professional but that's very much it. It would be nice to see them smile a bit more. It would make you feel more welcome.
Would I come again? Yes, but probably just for a fish and chips takeaway. People seem to be way more impressed.
Value for money? Yeahhhhh just. I'd say a fair price for a fair meal, given the location, which comes at a premium. Overall, it met expectations but generally there was not put any effort in to a unique selling point to make them different from others. They clearly benefit from the lack of competition.
W. L.
nice place with friendly staff, but on our visit we thought the food was fine but not amazing, and a little on the pricey side also.
T. M.
Hursey Seafoods has suffered the pandemic as others have, but their establishment is well set up for both their seafood business and a great restaurant, which is located on the second floor. With a large range of seafood dishes to choose from, there is something for all the family. I enjoyed a 900gm Southern Rock Lobster in two halves done Mornay style. Very enjoyable. There is a good view out over the protected bay.
K. N.
Go here, eat lobster! You won't be disappointed. Cheap for the volume of food. Very friendly staff.
R. H.
Lovely view of the waters and yummy scallops. The crayfish was a bit dry.
J. M.
3.5 rating, if we could. After reading recent reviews about staff, we entered with low expectations. Staff were friendly and offered solid service, unlike other reviews. We dined at 1:30 pm. Chowder and scallop dishes were adequate. Nice views.
J. K.
Classic seaside fish and crayfish restaurant located on water at jetty - ambience comfortable over looking bay, seafood and crays very fresh and caught by local fishermen - staff very friendly and working with covid restrictions - noticed busy wiping down all menus - so covid as safe as possible - whole experience a little basic but staff so friendly lifted to 4 stars.
M. M.
Great meals and variety,we went and the restaurant was 3/4 full and only two waitresses, took awhile to get drinks and dessert but was worth it.Would recommend.
J. B.
Service on arrival was fantastic.
Meals were fantastic, however when ordering we asked if we could order sweets once finished our main which didn't seem a problem until we waited 15min after finishing mains and waitresses continued to just walk past us.
We managed to let one of them know we wanted to order sweets but another 5min nobody came and we were never offered more drinks.
Kids were rather disappointed they had to miss out on a promised bowl of ice-cream.
J. Z.
Love the seafood. So fresh.
S. C.
Standard fare fish and chips. Nothing wrong with it but we expected better considering this establishments reputation. We've had better in Wynyard, Somerset, and Burnie.
A. M. I.
Amazing spot in Stanley, good service and best food. Though quantity wasn’t that much as compared to price, but overall good.
r.
Seafood was good, but the service was a bit of a shambles, with no record of our online booking. This was despite an email confirmation.A glass of wine was $4.00 more expensive than the hotel.
M. L.
Lobster was so fresh, and the steak was awesome!
S. M.
A scenic drive up the north west coast of Tasmania brings you to the beautifully quaint historic town of Stanley. Hursey's seafood restaurant was a very pleasant surprise with its great views over the harbour and its freshly cooked local seafood. We had a delicious lunch. Great service, food and views in a clean contemporary restaurant.
W. T. V.
I will start with the positive - the food was unreal. I had the Steak & Cray option , even though it was $60 which is expensive and ridiculous, it was what I thought was best value for money. And wow... the food was delicious.
So here we go. The waitress are lovely, very nice etc, however , when I get seated and told that the specials are written on a board that is nowhere near my table and I have to get up and look at it , that is a sh!t service. I just laughed when she said , “tasting plate prices is here and specials are over there” - COME ON
When the food was delivered , it was simply throwing onto my table !!! Really
With that said, it’s worth a visit , however , I hope
Hursey reads this , I would get a professional hospitality coach in, to teach restaurant Etiquette and the fact that they are charging an absolute premium, which is fine, but you charge a price , that comes with a premium service. Pick up your game please Hursey, otherwise , enough reviews will weigh this restaurant down , and no one will come , simply because they don’t appreciate their customer.
A. M.
Very nice waitresses, worth it for the Cray fish but the seafood plate is waaaay over price for what it is (65$ for two oysters, some octopus and a small piece of beef). This all dish cost us more than 135$... Not the best value for money unfortunately. But we had a lovely moment nontheless.
S. B.
Brought a lobster here which was delicious, the lady who served us had great customer service and was extremely helpful in giving us storage and preparation advice.
J. N.
My husband and I had lunch there, i had crayfish he had Atlantic salmon, beautiful meals, and drinks, the service was fantastic, the venue is delightful, sitting looking at the sea. I would absolutely recommend.
B.
Meals are amazing and as busy as it was the service was great. Loved the salt n pepper calamari. Nice thick fresh chunks of calamari and the salad was yummy as. Snitzel and chips bit bland and small but the fisherman's basket was divine. Miss the place and had to go again. Glad we did .. a great stay in Stanley for the weekend
J. S.
Had the tasting plate, dozen oysters natural, premium salad, beer battered chips - awesome, and perfect for 2 very hungry individuals. Highly recommended. Fresh as. Lobster was superb. Oysters were fresh, big and juicy. Service (Chloe) was right up to there. Full as a goog. A must treat in Stanley, Tassie. Location also picturesque.
Had a bottle of Morgan's Bay cab Merlot and a glass of the Josef Chromy sav blanc, both excellent.
F. R.
Food was good. My lobster was great.
Severe lack of atmosphere, no music, plain deco, paintings in wall wil be nice, no dinning experience at all.
S. J. M.
Absolutely beautiful seafood meal, freshest everything, Tasmania is our family home and have travelled here to stanly many times to eat at Hurseys restaurant and purchase fresh crayfish for Christmas , thank you for a wonderful seafood platter, visited 23/12/2021
R. H.
Delicious seafood. We had the lobster in curry sauce entree and pan seared scallops. Very good, a little pricey, but I don't mind paying a little more when the food tastes so good. Service from the staff was also great.
R. W.
The food here is fantastic. We had the abalone appetizer, lobster, and a scallop dish that was sensational. The service was very good and professional. This is an expensive place to eat, but well worth the splurge!
K. W.
The meals are always good, except you never get a lot of chips, which suprises me as chips are cheap and a good filler, of the 6 of us dining all of us had different amounts of chips on our plates, from hardly any to just a handful. Plus the drinks let them down, we dine here at least once a month and never have we ever been asked for a drink twice, get one when you first sit down and thats it unless you go to the bar and get your own.
M. M.
Enjoyed our seafood lunch at Hursey Seafoods. Yummy salad with salt & pepper Squid. Pleased we ordered the large Gummy fish and chips as it wasn't a big meal, just right.
S. S.
Good meal and service.
Enjoyed the atmosphere.
Reasonable pricing for the quality of food.
Medium steak was spot on, rare was a little under but not too bad. Chicken was moist and cooked nicely, seafood basket had a good selection and would be nice to have a few more chips.
Lobster Supreme was a good starter and would likely suit a mains menu also.
D. R.
OMG the food here was fantastic, fresh crays and scallops. Dinner was a seafood culinary adventure, with very large servings, thank god our motel was only across the road.
J. Z.
Crayfish was good. Very good timing to support local businesses in Tasmania.
M.
Well cooked, good service, lacking on salad options and side salad too small.
s. t.
Average prices but you can get half a lobster for $45 + $5 for the sauce with chips and salad or a whole lobster 🦞 for $85+$5 for sauce with chips and salad, but it's not advertise with chips and salad.
K. W.
As one of the most highest rated seafood locations nearby Stanley we stopped by to get some Tassie seafood.
There were a lot of people waiting and it took about 20 minutes for the food to be ready but the staff were very friendly and the seafood itself was quite good. The oysters in particular were excellent, far better than any I’ve had in Sydney.
Also the chips with the boxes were really tasty.
M. G.
Service was very pleasant, the views lovely & the meals satisfying. They were fresh & tasty but I felt the scallops & calamari were over cooked
A. F.
Can only comment on the takeaways side of the business. Service was fine, its was $28 for a seafood box - one piece of fish, 4 scallops, 3 squid, 4 prawns serve of chips. Must remember to ask for salt otherwise you don't get it. Only complaint is the squid was floury dont know why!
Took a look at the restaurant upstairs menu looked good and expected prices for a restaurant. Decor was a bit bland though, lacked a bit of oomph or character during our daytime visit, couod be different in the evening. Yet to do that.
Accessible by lift so wheelchiar friendly
D. L.
Oysters are quite juicy. scallops are good as well. However we don't enjoy lobster that much. it's quite expensive and the taste is boring. we ordered half of medium size lobster but it is very small and costs $80.
D. C.
Had big expectations of this from the write ups. Great location, friendly staff and a good menu. Started with abalone, which was a let down! Very tough and flavourless. Then the 300g steak and lobster moray. That was good. Steak cooked to perfection, and the lobster was nice. Good wine and beer menu, so all up a good night.
A. C.
Very happy with the meals we had. Would of rated 5 stars but was out of alot of the menu options we wanted.
D.
Delicious food. We had some fish and chips, and a seafood basket. Lightly crumbed and tasty. Every part of the dish was perfect.
D. D. (. F.
Really enjoyed the fresh shark bites, they were good value. Bit disappointed I couldn't just get a couple of scallops or oysters, I didn't want half a dozen.
R. B.
Quite happy with the variety of takeaway options. The crumbed blue trevalla was amazing. Great service.
M. G.
Beautiful fresh seafood very friendly staff
Definitely try the scallop and bacon skewers
EXCELLENT
S. P.
Delicious fresh seafood, great prices, highly recommend
V. R.
We had great service although the main course took some time to arrive. My son had the Barnyard and beach which was excellent. I had the Seafood Chowder which was like a blended vegetable soup with a few pieces of seafood thrown in it and some old burnt toast to compliment it. Chowder is meant to be creamy and packed full of seafood, not impressed. Dessert was lovely. The place lacked ambience
鄧.
Perfect Lobster I have ever taste 😋
Small size is enough for two people.
M. C.
Very fresh seafoods! Great service. When you arrive please waiting for usher.
L. B.
Fresh tasty seafood. Please book to avoid disappointment, especially during pick holiday season.
I. C. (.
How a amazing place, nice service , people and great seafood and cheaper !
I’m really recommend the dish here.
不貴好吃,服務態度又好!!環境乾淨簡潔。
G. A.
Had Seafood Platter for two. See photo but managed to have the two Scallop skewers prior to photo. Excellent food and service, a big improvement on my first visit.
P. P.
The food here are really nice. We ordered Salt & pepper squid and Cape grim beef steak, which are fresh and delicious. There are a variety of choices in seafood. And the sea view in front of the dining table is amazing.
d. R.
After reading the reviews we were a apprehensive of going there, but went never the less. Wow we were pleasantly surprised by the service and the food was fantastic. Had the reef and beef and there was more seafood than just prawns on it. Also had the half lobster and it was top notch. Only issue was calamari was slightly chewy but I won't take points off for that. Price was pretty reasonable. Would definitely be going back next time we are in Tassie.
S. T.
Just had the seafood basket , was absolutely delicious with fresh crispy batter😁
D. D.
Amazing meal. Highly recommend if you like seafood 🦞
H. B.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I had lobster thermidore and it was absolutely delicious.
A. B.
Photo says it all..
Took a little while but cleaned this up..
D. H.
The Fish portion of the fish and chips was good. The chips were a bit over done. My wife had the salmon and it was over cooked. My daughter had the special pasta since they sold out of lobster (get there early) and it was not good. They were clearly short staffed but they did a good job with service all things considered. The value for the money was not worth it, very expensive for what we received. Do yourself a favor and go to Stanley Hotel. We eat there the night before and much better food for the price.
S. B.
Wow, lobster cocktail followed by seafood basket. FRESH Fresh fresh.... Best seafood ever. Only the fish batter was ridiculously thick, but that was easy to overcome, I took it off. Melt in there mouth deliciousness and the tartare was freshly made and divine. YUMMO 😋
t. l.
Best Prawns I have had in my life. Worth every cent.
C. A.
It was not very well stocked with fresh seafood which was disappointing but it was ok.
S. M.
Flathead was great very tasty fish.
Portions maybe a little small but the quality is there.
Staff were great. Will definitely go back next time we visit.
P. S.
The freshest & best seafood with great customer service.
Give it a go, you will not be disappointed.
G. M.
I was a little disappointed with this place. Heard great things so maybe was why it didn't live up to expectations. Sometimes u build things up in your mind. Had lobster for starter served in a curry! It absolutely overpowered the lobster. Followed with scallops which were ok but nothing to write home about. Atmosphere was very average. Lunch was okay but forgettable!
N. E.
Very happy with our meals, the lobster pieces were exceptional
G. S.
Loved it. The meal was superb and vista amazing. Stanley is so beautiful and quaint
J. E.
Having dined at starred restaurants world wide- wonder is restored by the dining experience at Hurseys.
At peak season, we phoned to book at 7:11 pm- requesting a table for 3 at 8 pm, to be told - “kitchen closes at 8 - Please arrive as soon as possible “. An authentic, honest and sustainable reply In another town whose tourism industry has been decimated by covid.
The decor is simple grey with a lobster red stripe, tables unpretentiously arranged a la club style. Adds to the suspense.
Menu is devastating in its offerings - the main feature lobster half, whole, small, medium, large... warm, cold, garlic. Don’t overlook the local oysters, abalone and scallops . Serving sizes put London/Paris/Sydney/Vancouver/New York to shame. The 3 of us well fed sharing 2 entrees ( half a dozen monster oysters and a serving of grilled abalone) and 2 mains ( whole medium Cray with garlic butter, and 24 parsley pan fried scallops with roe (!!! Yum!!). A bottle of local Tasmanian Chardonnay completed an unforgettable meal. Checked against local bottle shop prices a mark up of only $10.
To the question posed to the waitress “where do you get your Cray fish” came the simple answer “out there”- pointing directly to the sapphire blue bay out of the window. That says it all. Don’t miss the wonder.
W. U.
Great food nice chips lady serving seemed a bit agitated no welcoming but food was great
T. H.
Why go here if you’re not wanting lobster? The statue on the roof tells it all. And the cray is delicious and well priced. Nice setting if nothing too fancy, service was polite, efficient and unobtrusive. Nothing pretentious, because it’s all about the lobsters.
W. B.
I love this place. Their food is always to quality.
J. W.
The scallops were amazing! As well as the scallops pie!
s. t.
Beautiful location. Good food. Smaller portions.
T. M.
Fish & chips were cooked to perfection, not greasy & we purchased 3 crayfish which where all delicious. Such a beautiful & extremely helpful young lady who served me, made me feel extremely welcome especially with my Assistance dog Bella.
R. A.
Great service and lovely staff, meal was excellent, crayfish, cooked and presented beautifully. Very well priced and a fantastic view from the restaurant, highly recommend a meal here if ever you are in the area.
K. H.
Best crayfish ever but still overpriced considering covid and export market down they should reduce prices for crayfish that they catch $180 for a full lobster is way to high but I did pay this as I love this place and watch the T.V show but it's getting beyond affordability for most average wage earners !
w. s.
Delicious fresh Tassie seafood with excellent friendly service.
J. K.
OMG this was equal best of the fish shops in Tassie !! Absolutely delicious with awesome quality seafood. Maybe a little expensive but well worth the trip.
Such a beautiful stunning location too
j. w.
I found it over rated. Food not that great. But service was very good.
E. M.
Always get fish and chips when we take visitors there. Last trip it was the only place to get a meal in the afternoon.
L. j. H.
Good service, good food, we will be going back 😁
N. G.
Portions are big and it was tasty but not the best ever.
M. G.
The food and staff were great but the wait was too long
V. M.
Danae? Served us and she was amazing. Food excellent and we loved the quiet atmosphere, allowed us to enjoy the delicious food, the view and each other’s company. Thank you 🙏💕
M. R.
They served a very generous portion of fries and large fish fillets. Generous salad too. We enjoyed our seafood dinner very much in the very cold weather of the evening. You can dine in or take away your order and have them in your hotel room. Don't miss this restaurant if you are in Stanley.
Enjoy your holiday and your seafood too.
Cheers.
T. R.
A bit pricey, but the fish and chips are quite good.
S. H.
Food was good and we have been here years ago and brought friends this time...however, service was not worth the $50 public holiday surcharge attached to our bill! No soap in the bathroom, had to ask for cuttlery, water and condiments.....
S. T.
Visited due to watching Lobster men. Great for lobster /crayfish but lacks some atmosphere, maybe some background music, photos. Great little town and must stop if passing through.
D. H.
Had a great dinner, perfect for a family. The kids fish and chips were aparrently the best in Tassie! The crayfish was beautiful and the prices very reasonable for the quality and serving size.
A. G.
Fresh seafood beautifully cooked. Lovely staff. Pan-fried scallops were brightly seasoned and done to perfection. Salt & pepper squid was excellent. Sides were good. Our wine choices were very nice. Not fancy or romantic, but we'd go back in a heartbeat.
J. L.
Seafood, seafood and seafood with great service, I had the flathead with out question the best in the world 🌎
M. R.
Awesome seafood. Melt in your mouth calamari and crispy chips 😋
I. U.
Went upstairs to the restaurant. Delicious Crayfish and tasting platter.
L. A.
Service was great and the food was very enjoyable A* quality
S. L.
Love the ambience of the place... magical views. Ordered crumbed scallops with chips and salad which was delicious and only $14. Finished with the Eton Mess, loved the zing of the raspberries. Very efficient, friendly service. Definitely be back.
R. P.
Fantastic food and views. A little pricey but you get what you pay for. Happy to eat there any time 😊
S. T.
Great food, definitely the scallops were fantastic and value for money!!! Staff not very focused on servicing customers, one, which we didn’t get (thankfully) was pretty much throwing the food down on tables. But food and views are definitely worth it and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.
T. P.
Everything fresh but dine in is a bit pricey. Portions are a bit small for the price. And I agreed with other reviews that they could have put a bit more effort in their salads. Came out without dressing and on this occasion, they didn't even bring salad dressing for me. Saying that, we went back for take away fish and chips the next day, a cheaper option. And we really enjoyed it. If we go back next time, we will stick to take away fish and chips.
R. B.
Good fish and chips. Friendly, fast service, not cheap, but fun cafe with view of the water (over the carpark). Was expecting more for the price.
A. H.
My husband & I went for dinner last Sunday night. We shared a entree of Seafood Chowder & a main meal of Stripey Trumpeter with a salad & chips. We werent hungry so we decided to have a share plate.
The food was absolutely beautiful, a beer & a glass of wine was great as well.
Friendly efficient service from the waitress at Hursey Seafood Restaurant.
While we were staying in Stanley we ordered take away of Seafood basket & some Tassie scallops. The seafood was very fresh & great service as well from the lady working in the take away area of the Restaurant.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
J. C.
Mostly an amazing experience! I'm not a seafood eater, so I was bracing myself for a sub par chicken dish and that's exactly what I got. From the comments of my fellow diners, the seafood meals were good though! It'd be a 5 star rating had the chicken been better...
N. C.
We had lunch here as part of our stay in Stanley. Staff were friendly restaurant was clean warm and very inviting.. and the food was amazing best seafood in tassie.. we didn't have a booking but were found a seat on a night they were heavily booked and a window seat to boot..highly recommend a must do for your trip to Stanley.
J. M.
Great value. The seafood box was big enough for 2 of us. Medium chips were enough for 4!!! Amazing value. Don't miss this one.
M. T.
Great seafood and steak was good also
N. B.
We won't be back. Dirty entrance of old chairs & filthy carpet. Jacob offered us great, professional service but other female staff plonked food & drinks at tables without speaking. Very over priced for a cafeteria type atmosphere. Not enough good staff on as people were left waiting too long. Jacob was doing the best he could.
S. T.
Beautiful food and friendly staff. Very accommodating... squeezed us in even though they were fully booked.
S. C.
Wonderful food, great staff and good value for money
L. Y.
The best scallops we’ve ever had. We visited here from Sydney. The scallops are far better than anything in Sydney Fish Market! Even the crumble scallops, you can still taste the OCEAN! Price is very fair, or even cheap! Highly recommend curry scallop pie too!
M. O.
Crumbed prawns fresh deep sea fish and fish bites delicious tartar sauce 10/10
B. M.
Wonderful, wonderful fresh lobster. Enjoyed so much we came back for a second. Great coast, plenty of parks to sit and enjoy this excellent seafood. The ladies who work there are so lovely and helpful too helping us choose the cray we wanted on both visits.
A. I.
Had fish and chips, a salad and a beefburger there but weren't very convinced. The food tasted alright but seemed very greasy.
Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Excellent food, great friendly staff and they catered to a large, noisy family group (at least 30+ people including children) with good humour and great service
B. S.
The best steak ive eaten in along time medium rare all the way through great service first time there and want be the last
p. f.
Seafood was fresh and tasty, service was average at best.
M.
Was nice ! The salmon wasn't fresh. But all the drinks & the staff was really good & I appreciated, always the smile 👍
S. P.
Average very greasy fish and batter not great
L. H.
Lobster was very fresh! Price little be expensive.
C. F.
Warm and friendly staff. Chowder was not worth the money but our mains were great. S&P squid, fisherman's basket and curried scallops. Nice Easter Monday drive for lunch from Burnie. 😊
A. T.
The very best & freshest seafood in north- west Tasmania.
Straight off the boat.
Bravo.
Fair Prices.
A must do.
G. S.
Lobster lacked flavour possibly cooked in plain water not the water it swims in. Don't go there if your wallet is not very full of money.
A. Z.
Very expensive for the takeaway we had. Only ordered 1 piece of each striped trumpeter and flat head with 3 potato cakes. Cost over $34. Differently over priced. Flat head was very oily. Tasted nice.
I. L.
Great fresh seafood, cooked & served quickly
D. R.
Always visit here when I come down to Tasmania. Staff have always been good and I've never been disappointed with the food. Crumbed scallops are my personal favourite, only gave my wife one to try so she could see what she was missing.
K. B.
We just went on a wim to see if we could get to sit down but had to get takeaways.
N. C.
Great food!! Actually amazing food!!! Was a little disappointed with the service. Slow to get drinks for us and when we finished our mains we waited for our table to be cleared and offered a dessert menu, and we waited, and we waited! Eventually I had to go to the bar and ask someone. This would be understandable if they were busy but unfortunately they were not.
J. M. (. b.
Relaxed dining atmosphere, great seafood, delectable desserts and polite staff who saw to your every need. Great find!
T. M.
We were looking for somewhere to get takeaway for lunch, we saw the sign "eat in or takeaway" we walked in the door and you could smell the genuine seafood odour, my mouth instantly started watering, we ordered from the takeaway menu, the staff were fantastic, very friendly and happy, the food was ready quickly, and talk about value for money. Everything we ordered was amazing and cooked to perfection. We were so full afterwards we didn't need to have dinner. I would highly recommend anyone visiting Stanley to go and have a meal, the servings are huge, so make sure your hungry and not just peckish it would be a shame to waste it.
D. W.
Great food best service and great cook
K. J.
The Crumbed Scallops were magic! Crumb stayed on and the scallops were tender. Had bad experiences with chewy scallops at other places or bite into it and liquid runs everywhere... not Hurseys. They were yummy!
T.
Visited this place on a trip to Stanley as part of the Cradle to Coast Tasting Trail. The store is split into two sections - the upper floor is a high-class restaurant with the highest quality seafood for those with lots of money, while the lower floor is a simple takeaway counter. We tried the takeaway and found the prices to be quite moderate, with lots of food for the price and quite high quality. It's clear that Hursey doesn't compromise on their cheaper offering, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Stanley.
J. V.
Hands down the BEST food! I'm not vegan just trying to find good quality natural foods when I'm out and about or for a treat and this place hits the spot! Their food is made with such quality and love. Just look at it! My fav is their frappaccinos. They make their own coconut and almond milk - so good!!
B. K.
I'm trying to be generous here. Located beside the lovely Stanley wharf with picturesque fishing vessels and water views, I chose the lobster curry with rice for starter...was slightly overcooked and the curry (suspect it was a well known fish curry powder available from most asian grocers on the mainland) was a tad bland. Presentation could have been better, but the rice was fluffy and nice. Main course was the fisherman's Basket which I found to be quite satisfactory. Mother had panko crumbed stripey trumpeter which was "quite nice". Washed it all down with the Tas Chromy Sauvignon Blanc which was a very decent drop. Overall, I agree with many reviewers that it was a bit pricey for the portions and presentation. However I must say the Lobster Platters looked spectacular. Service was friendly but could be refined somewhat. It might be NW Tas but I was hoping for something with more wow factor....it wouldn't take much to make some all round improvements and I'll happily give it another star!

We enjoyed our daughter's birthday meal here back in January 2021. Our party of seven enjoyed all the meals & service.
G. Y.
From the moment we walked in we were made to feel so welcome; the wait staff were exceptional & so friendly. We've never had fresher seafood; the scallops & flake were especially good. Highly recommend this place.
P. T.
We ordered the large bag of chips($10 bag), and 2 pieces of flake, for our young family of 5. The chips were great, and the flake was fresh and cooked beautifully! Which is why we were glad they accidentally gave us 3, win win!
C. M.
Some of the best seafood in the world available straight off the family owned fishing boats. Girls were extremely capable and polite on the floor. Also priced within everyones reach.
H. K.
Fresh local seafood from the heart of the wharf, I love how they weigh the scallops to keep some consistency. Cheers
T. T. R.
We went to both the restaurant and the Takeaway store downstairs. We ony went to the restaurant to try the Lobster. The price were at the time $55 for 1/2 small. $110 for small. $90 for 1/2 medium and $240 for a full size whole cray. So bring you cash. The lobster was fine all that the reviews said it was, was not disappointed. Downstairs we paid $50 for a family fish and chips package, so very pricey. Upstairs restaurant cook it all, downstairs is just a 'shop front'. You can buy lobsters also from downstairs. Just do your maths when purchasing the $50 family deal downstairs, my calculations made it cheaper to buy the items individually. The battered fish was awesome. Way to much chips in the package. Just a bit pricey.
P. B.
Lovely setting and delicious food, not the biggest of servings but I'd go back
D. W.
Food good, service OK
L. B.
Very nice staff, amazing food. Would highly recommend coming here if you're a fan of seafood
w. r.
For where it is, a fair meal, but a little expensive.
M. P.
Fantastic seafood at very reasonable price. Best oysters ever. Lobbies large and tasty.
L. G.
Fish and chips were very fresh and batter was done to perfection. Large chip portions as well.
K. R.
Had a very nice meal
N. R.
Okay food, not the place for a cheap lobbie though..
R. A.
Seafood basket was awesome! Chips were just spot on. Set in a beautiful historic fishing village, in the shadow of the Nut. Well worth the visit. :)
K. K.
Very pricey. No oysters available which was a bit of a disappointment as you would expect for a seafood restaurant. However the fish, scallops and calamari were pretty delicious!
S. T.
Staff was attentive and the food was awesome. We shared the tasting platter, the crayfish was prepared perfectly. The fillet was very nice, everything was wonderful.
C. S.
Really Albert. If you didn't bother to make a single phone call to check what was available, before you drove for two hours that is YOUR mistake - not Hurseys! They provide amazing local in-season seafood and should be congratulated in staying true to what they know they do well. We looked at their options (we cook- they cook?) and decided that they know their produce a lot better than us. We planned our entire day around being there a wonderful lobster dinner. It was amazing and an experience we would recommend to anyone.
E. D.
Friendly greeting, perfect timing with drinks order and very quick to serve meal. Scallops & chips perfect with very light crumb and not overcooked. Home made Tartar sauce a bonus
R. W.
Lovely staff, and great food for quite a reasonable price.
T. K.
Food, setting and service were all spectacular. We had natural otsters, Ninth Island Sauvignon Blanc, gummy shark, blue-eye trevalla, brandy baskets and crème brûlée, and everything was absolutely superb. A bit expensive for our normal taste, but it was absolutely worth it.
T. A.
Good Food! The restaurant has basically two part where upstairs is used for fine dining and lower part for takeaway use. Reasonable price for takeaway but dine in is a bit higher price.Friendly stuffs!
d. h.
Had a nibble of some crumbed prawns, very yummy. Would have liked to have stayed here longer to try the restaurant out. Was eyeing of the crayfish on the menu board.
j. h.
Ordered the seafood box takeaway. Chips we're awesome and everything was cooked perfectly
L. C.
not sure why but the lobsters are cold
A. N.
Friendly staff, well cooked meals with a view.
d. b.
Food is a bit expensive BUT its super fresh, they fish it themselves so quality comes at a price. Its not excessive priced but seems dear compared to other places. Highly recommended
L. H.
Great seafood, take away or eat in the lovely restaurant with views to the sea and hills.
A. G.
Best takeaway fish and chips on the coast. Food was top notch, fresh and tasty
E. O.
Loved this place. Being a seafood place, everything was very fresh Service was good with friendly staff.
W. K. y.
Good view and foods😋😋
G. D.
Great seafood! Their specialty of course is the lobster, except that they are called crayfish. We had a whole lobster, oysters, and shark fillet, and scallops for the three of us. Then we share everything. Everyone is enjoying the food. The waiter is very friendly and helpful. He recommended Tasmanian Sauv Blanc, which goes perfectly with the lobster!
W. L.
We were very impressed with the food and service at Hursey's.
The lobster was fresh and tender.
The curry crayfish entrée was sensational.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone.

j. d.
The best flake I have ever had in my life and the oysters just impressive. Dont miss😁
L.
Me and my mate Joey were skating around stanley and got hungry and decided to just get some flake and chips from hursey seafood not thinking much of it. We ended up getting some of THE best flake we had ever tasted as well as some yummy thick cut chips and some alright calamarie rings. If your even in stanley go to hursey seafood's and taste there flake you wont be dissapointed
E. L.
Personally the seafood tasted really fresh. It would be good if they know how to create more seasoning than just fried and grilled and they will stand out among the others.
G. F.
Great fish n chipd
L. N.

S. C.
Great service, good prices and the food is outstanding. Always come here when I'm in Tasmania

We visited Hursey's on Saturday night and was served up great food and value for money, I had the crumbed scallops as the main and had over 17 scallops on my plate, my wife had the seafood basket and that was huge, we went thru all parts of the menu, excellent starters in the Abalone and the Camberet and the fresh deserts were great as well.
M. W.
