I am glad we have Sawak Cafe in Hobart. The food is quite delicious and authentic. The price is also reasonable. If you are looking for a good Malaysian restaurant, try Sawak.
S. L.
Been trying to get a seat in this little restaurant for a week. Finally got lucky and ordered the Nasi Lemak beef randang. The beef always soft and tender, just needed a little more coconut and lemongrass flavour. The fried anchovies was really.nice and crispy. Though I thought the serving size is a little small l, it was pretty good value. Order extra boiled vegetables, which it was just that but needed to have my recommended veggie intake. Quick and easy service. Would like to come back to try other dishes.
G. D.
Amazing food.. easily the tastiest meal we had in Hobart... And we went to some highly rated restaurants on our trip !
p. b.
Amazing 👏 tastes! We had fried noodle, laksa, nasi lemak and dumpling. Finding a good malaysian taste in hobart was difficult specially any for a vegetarian eater. We all savoured every bite of those....
Cafe was very small and sitting were limited 😕
C. B.
Best CKT outside Malaysia? Maybe... delicious, friendly and great value.
Dined there twice and consistent quality food. Get there soon before the rest of Hobart discovers it.
D. T.
Very good Malaysian food. We had the Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang. It was more beef curry than beef rendang, but the beef is very tender and delicious. The nuts and the anchovies are very crunchy and are a nice accompaniment.
The Nasi Goreng has a very nice "wok hei" flavour and is very good.
P.
Best Malaysian food in town.
R. A.
I saw how busy it was so knew it had to be good. Forget good, it was one of the yummiest nasi goreng & spring roll meals ever!! I only waited a few minutes before it was ready & the service was great too.
C. F.
Just had a quick dinner here, cheap and cheerful! I really enjoyed the meal here! The prices are fantastic for the CBD! Would recommend 😄
K. L.
Decent food and friendly, helpful staff. I have tried a few of their dishes including the chicken rice, chicken curry and Singapore noodles and I would order them again. Convenient location. Only thing is the restaurant is quite small. Hard to get a seat if you come in during peak hours, especially in group.
S.
This is my favourite restaurant in Hobart. Over the years that I’ve been coming here the food is consistently amazing. It’s always fresh and tasty and comes out quickly. The food is so cheap for how delicious it is. Heaps of veggo options. The staff are the best! Always really friendly and happy. I love the atmosphere of the busy kitchen next to the dining area. Every single time I’ve been here it’s packed - Hobart knows what’s up. 10/10 would eat it every day
T. N.
Great food. Good menu. Easy to order.
W. L.
a number of malaysian classics on the menu, but we thought the food was ok but not great...
S. J.
nice food and kind staff but little bit lack of potion.
T. Y. P.
Their Hor Fun is just absolutely delicious. The slightly charcoal flavoured noodles with welcoming and smoothing egg soup 👌 literally my go to! Especially on a rainy day! Can’t give 6 stars otherwise I would
D. W.
Always busy, always delicious. Great value for money and fast, friendly service. Malaysian memories come flooding back.
P. W.
Wow!!! Friendly staff, super clean eating area and kitchen, piping hot and fresh Laksa, and some of the absolute BEST roti I have ever had!!! This was such a perfect stop for a rainy and cold lunch. I’d go back and bring all my friends for sure.
R. C.
Authentic, delicious and cheap Malaysian food. I have been there maybe 12 times , my originally Malaysian wife maybe 60. We often go with our singaporean friend Saturdays. We will continue. Recommend the roti, nasi lemak, ho fan, char kuetio, laksa in parrticular but it is all good.
A. S.
Fast service. The food and flavor is not bad. I was specially happy with the lady finger in chicken curry. It was cooked to perfection, soft yet not falling apart, the chef sure know what he / she was doing. The nasi gorrang was good too. But the 5 stars goes to the service staff, their customer service is an art form. My son dropped a glass of water and they immediately came over wiped it all of with a smile. And that is it right there, don't know how many hours they had been working for that day, yet they carried such positive attitude, don't know what training they had been given, but others from any industry can use this quality of service as a benchmark.
s. w.
My family and I love this place, fast, friendly and fresh everytime. Even when they are busy staff always have a smile on their face. Better than any of the top rated restaurants in town! Thank you Sawak!
J. Y.
I really like these food!It is pretty yummy!!!Fantastic!!!And the price is very cheap! The service is good!I must recommend this shop! You will find a new taste about rice noodles, ahahahaha, lol^^
I.
Reasonably priced and authentic Malaysian food. Recommended if you enjoy Malaysian dishes
L.
Good generous portion. Ordered the combo spicy noodles - the beef was particularly nice and plenty of seafood. Could’ve been a bit spicier but they have good array of condiments on the table
T. P.
Service was impeccable, the food not so.
We ordered the nasi goreng chicken and tom yum noodle beef soup.
Nasi goreng was standard, the portion was nice, enough and not wasteful. Something that wouldn't go wrong.
Tom yum would be something I would recommend avoiding. There was a lack of meat and variety of vegetable in the dish. On top of that, the flavour was simply sour and tasted like a badly seasoned dish. This dish was a shame.
C. C.
A taste of home down under here in Hobart. Stick to the fried dishes - you won't be able to make this at home. The skilled chef and his seasoned wok will elevate even a humble fried rice into a masterpiece that is light and not greasy. The laksa could use some more coconut milk but the friendly staff was happy to bring us more chilli flakes. We walked out into the brisk Hobart evening feeling smug and warm in the heart.
L.
Cheap and cheerful eatery in Hobart. Food is quite tasty. Partly self serve but staff will point you in the right direction. Service is friendly and polite. Recommended for those looking for affordable and filling meals. Tried the nasi lemak with chicken wings and I love the chicken wings.
M.
Pretty good. Friendly staff, not too long for food. Reasonably priced. The taste is not exactly as in Sarawak but its close enough(the kuey teow). The rendang however, it taste more like malay curry in comparison to one you can get in Sarawak, Malaysia which taste different and more yellowish colour.
h.
Fixed our craving over Malaysia food in Tasmania. The fried rice & fried mee goreng all with wok hei, Nasi Lemak full of santan flavour, laksa is awesome good too! Thanks boss for the good hospitality and took photo with my parent.
S. A. A.
Great food and great friendly staff. Nasi Lemak with Prawn sambal is a must try and their chicken rice.
K. C. D. (.
Great Malaysian food at an affordable price. The restaurant is clean and cozy. Didn't like their boiled dumplings, but the Laksa and Nasi Lemak were really good.
A. W.
Insanely good Malaysian food! Super quick service by friendly staff, incredible value for money. And so flippin delicious!!!! 10/10, sad I don't live near by because I'd be here all the time!
S. B.
Absolutely love this place been going for years. Easily one of the best places to eat in Hobart hands down.
F.
Brilliant. So well priced and food is amazing, service is lovely. Keep up the great work, we are definitely coming back
F. L.
Good price, quantity, variety and taste. Customer service is always great and attentive.
S. H.
Friendly staff, delicious food made fresh in front of you and quick service.
M. N.
Delicious food and great service, real value for your money.
H. N.
Excellent food. Very tasty
Halal as well
Very friendly and welcoming service
Ambience is okay
D. V.
Great tiny place to have yummy malaysian food. Tried few different dishes and Laksa was my go to dish there. Comparatively law prices. Getting a table during lunch can be challenging. However, staff is super helpful.
E. E.
Totally recommend this lovely little place 💯 beats any fancy restaurant in Hobart & we have been to a few. It's a must!!! Cheap as & top quality food & service! Wish we could take them back to Brisbane ❤
A. L.
Sawak is by far the best Malaysian I’ve had in Australia. Ordered takeaway twice while holidaying in Hobart, trying a variety of dishes. The mains are authentic as they can get with really fresh ingredients and great customer service. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Hobart!
P. B.
Delicious noodle place
J. F.
My favourite restaurant in Hobart. Lots of vegetarian options at a very reasonable price. Specializes in Asian meals. No corkage fee. Open for lunch and dinner.
J. B.
We had spring rolls and pan fried veg dumpling for starter followed by mee goreng noodle combination meat to finish... Everything priced very well for how great it was... Worth the stop and will return.
S. D.
One of the best cheap meals in Hobart
Always good food and good value
H. D.
Excellent food and super quick service. Staff is very nice and helpful. They looked after our dietary requirements very well. Look forward to have at least 1 more meal with them during my stay in Hobart.
Thanks for great evening!!!
T. E.
Perfect dish for the Hobart cold – I am from Brisbane on a work trip so the chicken curry just hit the spot perfectly. I am glad my work colleague from Melbourne recommended Sawak Cafe.
S.
Fast noodles, 5 minutes from order to plate. Friendly staff. BYO alcohol. $$
G. H.
Fantastic little restaurant. Great food and great prices, quick & friendly service. Not a place to linger over a romantic dinner, but great at what it does
A. Y. P.
Limited seating capability but the food is really good and staff are nice.
N. M.
Was a last minute decision to eat here and we were extremely lucky to get in as the place was booked solid. Many others were turned away after we sat down. We tried the laksa and Har mee soups and the smells took us back to Penang. If you can get in, don't miss the opportunity. Wish we had more time to try other dishes, but time to depart Hobart.
L. F.
The service and staff are amazing and so friendly see you soon!
C. J.
Really impressive food and pretty authentic, slightly westernised but in a good way. Will be going back for sure.
P. K.
Ordered take away from here on my holiday in Tas. Good location, looked busy. Food wasn't too bad given how many take away orders they had. Will give this place a go again on my next visit.
T. Z.
Great food at affordable price!
E. F.
My go to when I want a beautiful fish curry.
D. M.
Amazingly authentic love it we dine there every week.
D. A.
Made a big order from this place and it was excellent. The food was great and very reasonable price. Can't wait to go back
D. T.
Good spot for a quick lunch, basic but food was tasty and staff friendly.
S. A.
Delicious and very reasonable. I wish you open a branch in Adelaide 😊
Y. L.
Seafood Char Kway Teow (wiz my extra rice noodle & chicken requested)👍🏻
e. v.
My partner and I LOVE this place. Reliable, fresh, lovely service and a real treasure in Hobart. My fav is the fish curry and the nasi goreng is excellent.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND
J. H.
Always the best,love the food & service,thankyou
D. A.
Perfect Taste ♡ good customer service
P. P.
Nice looking little shop, wide selection of Malaysian food, quite yummy and inexpensive.
M. R.
The food is delicious and the staff are lovely! Great value and no corkage
A. G.
One of the top fast casual Asian restaurants in Hobart. The best Malaysian one in town for sure. Affordable, good servings and yummy as. Also hit the spot spice wise. I very much appreciated the friendly staff, too. Thank you, I'll be back!
M. K.
Delicious meals with generous portion sizes. The busiest restaurant in the vicinity which is reassuring. Staff are very friendly and energetic service is fantastic! Wont be disappointed!!!
H. G.
Great place to go for Malaysian food. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Not a huge amount of seating inside. A lot of the dishes feature some chilli, so if you can't eat spicy food, your choices will be a bit more limited.
J. F.
Visiting Hobart, I’d taken a walk from the hotel looking for a quick bite for dinner. I walked past and saw that the small place was full. That is always a good sign. The place is small and simple. Food was fresh and perfect. At the price point, a great meal. I’m in Hobart for a conference for 4 days and have eaten there 2 nights in a row. My next 2 nights will also be at Sawak. Highly recommend! Very fresh food, great staff, quick meal to have you quickly on your way. Not a place to linger as there may be people waiting for a table behind you!
M. A.
Good food. However, have to pay for take away containers doesn’t feel right for me. Just want to take food home instead of throw food away and have to pay for it.
K. J.
Great service and good prices, slightly smaller portions than some other white box noodle places but the flavours are great and it is worth every dollar!
F. W.
Great place, great value, great food! Visited Hobart for 3 nights ate there twice.
The staff were amazingly friendly and helpful. No need to go anywhere else for authentic Asian street food.
Fraz & Kath (England)
K. H.
Excellent, traditional Malaysian cuisine. Fantastic for a quick, fast, casual, cheap meal. Particularly if you are heading to the cinema after.
Great, friendly staff that are happy to discuss any changes.

R. H.
Simple food made to.the highest standard...cheap and authentic...huge recommendations for here if your wanting good street food
C. R.
Wow!! Service was outstanding and the food phenomenal! The dumplings were moist and tender and generally some of the best I've ever had. The veg curry and black bean rice were delicious and fresh, we had constant indegestion unable to stop eating them. The veg puffs were also very nice. On top of this we ordered take away at 6pm expecting a decent wait and the team made everything fresh in under 10 minutes which is mind blowing. Can't wait until I'm hungry again so we can return.
N. G.
Authentic no frills food from Sarawak.
Simple and tasty food.
K. L.
One of the best Laksa I ever ate in my life.
For 13$ with three fried spring rolls, it’s so cheap to eat a so generous and tasty meal. I was completely full at the end of the dinner. Thank you for all the flavour morning in your kitchen. I wish you the best.
S. R.
Great experience. Food and hospitality were fantastic. The coconut ice cream was to die for. Thanks so much.
T. T.
We came to Hobart for holiday and looked for a nice place for dinner close by where we stayed. So impressive with the food and friendly staff. We decided to come back the next day to try the other dishes. Still very nice. Such a good place for a nice and budget dinner!! Definitely will be back on our next trip to Tasmania :)
A. B.
Great place for a quick, casual dinner, particularly on a cold day. Good value for money. The food is spicy yet mild by the Malaysian standard. Orders are taken at the counter. The patrons need to help themselves to the cold water from the fridge and the cutlery in the bamboo shelf unit.
D. S.
Yummy food with reasonable price 😋service is also perfect !
S. W.
Terrific and affordable freshly cooked Asian food.
A. W.
Really good food and very friendly staff. Loved it! Plus we visited with a young baby and they were very supportive which made it easy to enjoy our lunch. MUST TRY!
K.
A best place for Malaysian taste in Tasmania. Not a big place. Foods are fantastic specially Nasi goreng and tom yum soup. Food amount is great according to the price.
M. R.
Great Malaysian food at a reasonable price. Friendly staff and very quick service. We feasted on the Nasi Lemak Beef Rendang, Roti Canai and the Nasi Goreng. We even returned again during our short stay in Hobart!
J. G.
Great Malaysian food. Good value good food!
B. A.
Unmissable if you're Hungry in Hobart
A. D. S.
Best Authentic Malashiyan food in Hobart. The food taste so good + the prices are reasonable. I did place a take away order and the restaurant waited for me till 9 o clock.
郭.
Yummy food and Staff are friendly.
I. L.
Nasi lemak was good. Not enough sambal (haha, that's just me). Laksa was acceptable. Was hoping for sarawak laksa. ( again just me hoping). Otherwise nice place to get Malaysian style food.
M.
Lovely staff amazing freshly cooked food. Very inexpensive food definitely will visiting again.
P. H.
Nice Malaysian food.
S. S.
We enjoy the sounds from the stir frying in the kitchen. We tried chicken rice, nasi lemak, and chicken rice, and they were all excellent.
K. e.
Lovely little restaurant. Very nice food and very reasonably priced. The staff were attentive, very polite and friendly. Will definitely eat there when I am next in Hobart. Keep up the good food !!
Y. t.
Nice food , nice staffs , fast and worth the price ❤️
P. C.
Good food with pocket friendly prices and Laksa was very generous portion- easily 2 can eat!
K. T.
Visited in June 2018 for dinner. The restaurant is on the small side, so things were a little cramped, and you could occasionally feel people passing by behind when seated. There was a variety of South-East Asian food from the Malaysia/Singapore region. We had prawn noodles and char kway teow after a few days of Western meals, and the food definitely brought memories of home, though it has been tweaked to suit the tastebuds of the locals more (eg the chillies weren't as spicy as expected, though Sriracha sauce helped that immediately). Service was quick and decent enough. Recommended for good south-east Asian cuisine in Hobart.
L. B.
Consistently delicious. Friendly people serving you at one of the best Malaysian Cafe's in Hobart. Easy to drop in, so simple.
J. Y.
Nasi goreng and nasi lemak always be my favorite!
C. T. A.
Me and wife, Singaporeans were traveling through beautiful Tasmania. We were introduced to this restaurant by rave reviews and we were not disappointed. The owner (who hails from Sarawak Malaysia) & also head chef was very patient, friendly and acceded to our special request (no chili and less salty to cater our taste). We felt like home eating here. The nasi lemak was quite close to our taste back in Singapore but sambal chili was slight more sweeter. My wife had the Singapore noodle (no chili) but for the record in Singapore, we don't serve curry powder in noodle and we don't have Singapore noodle maybe Singapore sling lol. Pretty good by the way too. There were mix of Australians and Locals to ate there, I would highly recommend to anyone who visits Hobart to eat here.
K. T.
Great Malaysian food. The place gets really busy during lunch time
R. K.
They say the meat is halal...
S. R.
Enjoy the genuine Malaysian aromas coming out of this busy little restaurant.
A. R.
Amazing place to come and eat. Sooperb taste. Very fast in giving the orders. Lot of menu options. Curry fried rice, Singapore Noodles was awesome. Matcha ice cream dont miss it.
E.
The food is delicious!!! Customer service 10/10 everyone is so welcoming! I come here regularly for almost a year for my beef rendang, nasi lemak. Every time I fall in love with the food
S. L.
We really enjoyed our dinner here - we tried the chicken wings, roti canai, char kway teow and nasi lemak and it was all good. The flavours were authentic and the prices were almost Malaysian too. BYO with free corkage was a bonus.
J. P.
The food here is seriously tasty and excellent value for money. I have been going there for a few years now and the quality is always reliable. The customer service is also good as the staff are friendly.
C. “. C.
Good flavours combined with genuine ingredients. The portion is a bit small compared to other Malaysian restaurants I've been. Good overall.
L. V.
Staple Malaysian fare at decent prices. Some serves might be considered on the smaller end.. but we also eat a bit (ordered 3 mains between 2 people). Laksa was light (not too rich).
P. G.
Loved the food. I ordered Fish curry and wanted it spicy. The food was catered in the best way. Will be back for more. The service was pretty good. Overall a very happy experience.
S. G.
Amazing place as always. Never disappoints. Always goes the extra mile to make you enjoy the experience.
L. J.
Easily one of my favourite places to grab lunch - can vouch for the laksa, curry puffs and dumplings, and the char kway teo is easily the best in Hobart.
S. T.
The egg sushi rules!🍜🍙 the best tofu satay noodle in town! Very friendly chef too! Highly recommend :)
A. W. (.
The food was good. However chili haters be warned. One chilli rating out of three on the menu literally means one large chili. And man it was hot. Say no chili and your allergic to it. Seriously it was so hot. And before you say what do you expect, I expect low spice not high spice and while I love the spice girls I don't want my life spiced up.
S. O.
Sawaks' service is genuine, they all care about you as a customer & have an urban following of popular demand.
Their service & quality menu won awards.
Their menu may appear simple but are all tasty, always layered with gradients of their uniquely cultured spices.
Consume your way thru their culinary alphabet for a cultured education.
H. R.
Best tasting and the only place you could get Malaysian food in Hobart. A standard dish for $12 and with good quantity too.
A.
I'm Malaysian and I absolutely recommend this restaurant! My favorite dishes are "Nasi Goreng" and "Nasi Lemak"!
In addition, the staff and owner there are extremely kind and friendly. Always leaving Sawak Cafe with a huge smile😊
C. W.
Food is tasty and the service is excellent. The only downside is food portion is a bit small.
C. D.
The food here was absolutely delicious for a reasonable price. Fast serving time, friendly staff. The amount of the dish was a bit small though.
E. M.
Awesome food! I had Nasi Goreng, great flavours. Very popular even on a Monday night. Service was friendly and efficient
P. T.
Delicious food and great prices. Excellent value for money. Fantastic staff
B. B.
When either visiting for a few days or moving to a new city, this is the exact kind of place you want to find. A central location that serves up fast, cheap, nutritious and tasty dishes. As an added bonus the staff here are lovely.
S. K.
The Laksa is highly recommended.
J. K.

Delicious food, reasonably priced and very friendly service. The udon noodles with sambal sauce was tasty and spicy. Very busy which is not surprising so book a table in advance.

Very good laksa and stir-fry noodles, and extremely friendly service
K. J.
Excellent malaysian (halal) find in beautful Hobart. Good value for a money and located in a center of a city. Must try if you are in town.
A. C.
Always come here for the nasi goreng. The food is fresh, and relatively quick. The only down side is that it is so popular, it can be hard to find a table sometimes.
L. H.
Fresh, friendly and fast! You can't go wrong, busy atmosphere massive portions the laksa was awesome!
C. H.
Beautiful food really friendly staff
Highly recommend 👍👍

c. d.
Wonderful food!!!!!! Yummy nice chicken rice.If you are going to Hobart and you are looking for a place to eat I recommend Sawak.
N. H.
Inexpensive but not as tasty as we'd hoped. The roti was the best thing we ordered. Light and flakey. Very popular place with the locals.
R. T.
Enjoyed the food and the staff were friendly. Overall pretty good value. Was a great lunch on a cold rainy day.
j. b.
Reasonably priced and really tasty

s. h.
Finally found something delicious and halal. Customer service, ambiance and taste was perfect. Highly recommended.
K. B.
Gorgeous, casual Cafe with a wide range of lovingly prepared food from across Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand ... a real treat and what a treat to have something so nice next to Fullers Bookstore/Cafe, Padmalight and the Lotus Centre ....
A. S.
Very friendly, cheap and most importantly, very genuine Malay cuisine, cooked by real Malay Chinese rather than mainlanders. Well worth the trip
G. R.
Very yummy food, prices seem reasonable for Hobart. Enjoyed everything but the roti canai is to die for, one of the best I've ever had.
S. k.
Best Malaysian food I had in Australia
Clean, fast and super nice!
L. M.
Not my kind of scene, but the food was good. If your looking for take away or a quick good meal it's perfect. Not the best seating for dine in however.

When you come to this restaurant, I suggest you to try TOM YUM, its really delicious and recommended. And especially for muslim, dont be hesitated eating here, because they said that they cook halal food seperatedly.. ☺
A. R.
I've been eating here for years, and have enjoyed every meal. The char kway teow is terrific, as are the laksa and beef rendang.
M. M.
So damn good! Rapid friendly service and amazing food. No corkage fee either.. you really can't beat it.
B. M.
Tasty, but a bit disappointed with the serve size of the salt and pepper fish. Only 5 bite size pieces for a $15 meal is disappointing.
T. C.
Delicious! Great service. Wish we live here so we could be regulars.
J. L.
Delicious food and lovely staff. What more can you ask for? Do try it!
M. H.

Coming from sydney, this is a disapointment. Forget about eating cultural food in hobart its all watered down for the locals. Lacking flavour and expensive.
Recommend eating aussie food.
J. L.
