Comments of Suzie Luck's Canteen & Cocktail Bar
A. F.
Oh I love the food here! I am very particular about my asian food and this place somehow surprised me with its great dishes. Great chicken dumplings and spring rolls. The fried rice and sticky glazed chicken were amazing. I wasn't really into the Cantonese pork neck though as I think my mum makes it much better. 🤭
But overall, I am impressed! It's a must to go place for the Asian Cuisine lovers!
I. W.
We had just come back from a 4 day walk. It was so good to have a spicy, fresh flavours, complex Asian cooking. The dumplings were a highlight. We had the cauliflower dish that I loved. It was a nice end to a great trip.
S. S.
We stumbled on this place after a late arrival in Hobart, and in need of lunch at 3PM when everywhere else had stopped serving.
And what a find!
This was tasty, fresh, original Asian-fusion food with some fantastic flavours.
Serves were large, so, be careful not to over order and they came with a good range of beers and mocktails.
Staff were great, food was served fast, and they had an extensive gluten-free menu.
While lunch was superb, it looked like this place would really kick in at night, as it doubled as a bar/restaurant.
A. W.
Well crafted food with great diversity (within the pan-asian theme). Booze is a tad expensive for what it is, but the charisma of the staff more than makes up for it. It's nice to be in a lunchtime "semi-casual" restaurant and feel comfortable that your "people/guests" are going to be looked after.
Y. G.
I don't like coriander or vinegar but whatever they served those 2 things with, it worked so well together. Basically polished everything off the plates except the cauliflower (which I feel would go better with a thicker sauce instead of it being soup-like).
You absolutely have to go for the fried rice. So fragrant. Korean chicken was so tender and everything else in the pictures was amazing as well.
We did wait quite a while for our drinks and got a mixed up order on our rice. Would be good for the staff to write down the order rather than rely on memory since you wouldn't know how many dishes the customer is going to order.
Other than that, the flavour profiles of the food is so well thought out. Really hard to decide what to order because everything on the menu sounded great. Amazing dinner.
E. C.
Really enjoyed having dinner at Suzie Lucks. The service and atmosphere was great, and the food was delicious - Asian fusion share style. Highly recommend the pork and prawn rolls, Korean fried chicken, crisp pork hock and wagu beef curry.
A. C.
Absolutely delicious south-asian modern cuisine! If you like this kind of food, you'll want to be with more people, so you can try them all - trust me you'll want to. :)
Note: The little bit and Bit more a smaller portions, all shareable, but the bigger are the larger portions that are good to share among two, possibly 3. We were 5, ordered 3 bigger, and about 4of the rest.
The Cocktails are so we'll curated, and executed on - very well thought through and oh so perfect tasting! Thanks, Sheamus!

I've been to Suzi Lucks restaurant in Hobart several times now, and have to say that this place is by far my favourite out of all the asian inspired restaurants I've been to here in Hobart and if I'm honest interstate too. The service is very welcoming and knowledgeable but it always come down to the food which is just beautifully balanced, looks amazing and is well priced for the generous servings you receive. The food scene in Hobart really is amazing these days and you have to be good to be on top of the pile and I reckon these guys have it in spades. A must dine place in Hobart!
C. F.
Great food and good service. The eggnet is yummy. The buttered apple rum was surprisingly delicious, perfect on a cold winter night, we wish we were staying longer in Hobart so that we could go back for more. Also give the pumpkin dish a try, lift in texture and full of flavour.
J. F.
Interestingly and well positioned restaurant if you have the opportunity to try the banquet, don't hesitate, it gives a fantastic selection of dishes.
Not overly spicy and very palletable dishes.
K. R.
Really good food. We ordered a few items and everything was delicious . Ambience was ace, service was impeccable. I had the banquet once and it’s worth the money. I recommend it!
S. P.
We were here for dinner, great ambience, amazing drinks and awesome food. The place was packed with people yet the service was spot on!!! The chicken dumplings are out of the world!!
b.
My first time ever come here, the place is near Salamanca square. Great food, and lovely place to have dinner with friends. The atmosphere is nice and interior is very unique. I really enjoy it.
E. R.
Came in, on a weekday night. Ordered the Cured King Fish (quite fresh, had too many coriander), Korean chicken wings (delish! Not too spicy that you burn your tongue, just right), Fried rice (umami bomb) and the Peanut butter ice cream pie (the pretzels complement the sweetness of the whole dessert).
Oh and they do good cocktails too. I had the South+East (gin + lychee liqueur + lemongrass) was definitely a good aperitif!
Super friendly staff as well. Shout out to Annie for being amazing!
E. D.
This is a very good restaurant. The food was great and they were very accommodating to our friend who has allergies to shellfish. Max was amazing loved her!!
M. W.
Fantastic food and great service. We went there twice two days in a row because we wanted to try all the dishes.
A. C.
One of the best Pad Thai dishes I’ve had the pleasure to enjoy. The Wagyu stir fry was right up there too! Front of house excellent. We’ll be back!
A. H.
Situated in Salamanca Place is this well fitted out restaurant. The modern decor looks good although the entry area seems to be congested all the time.
I shared one of the feasts from the menu. The food was of quite unique, some dishes I found to be very special and some just not appealing to my taste.
The service was great and the menu extensive.
The prices were about what I would have expected.
Perking in this area at any time is difficult to find. We took a cab to avoid the parking issues.
The lighting is way too dark as can be seen by the pictures I have supplied.
All up a pretty good experience. I would go back again but there are many other equally, if not better establishments close by.
b. c.
Amazing Asian fusion food. Went on a busy Saturday night. Staff were attentive as well as entertaining regardless. The banquet was plentiful, colourful and flavourful. Our stomachs were quite full even as the last dishes came out. Enjoyed the passerbys interacting with the Gillie and Marc sculpture alongside the restaurant. Would highly recommend the banquet and very impressed with all the vegan options.
R. B.
Excellent service. Absolutely wonderful food. Great atmosphere. Will be back.
m.
I'm not sure what they put in the pastry of their dumplings, I assume it's crack, because they make me feel incredible and I cannot stop eating them.
Professional, soft atmosphere; good menu with an highly skilled kitchen; and a great drinks menu.
J. D.
We did Not have a booking and they managed to squeeze us in, so glad they did. The staff and food were amazing some of the best dishes I have eaten in such a long time and I’m a chef, even the vegan thought so too. Thanks will highly recommend
T. R.
Excellent food, with an inviting atmosphere only surpassed by the warm reception received from the highly knowledgeable front of house staff.
Compliments to the kitchen for being more than happy to accomodate a range of dietary requirements (low FODMAP, vegan, etc.), while still managing to turn out dishes that had absolutely no business tasting as delicious as they did.
Cannot recommend highly enough to anyone with a set of taste buds.
C. M.
Tasty big dishes and excellent service. Good experience all round
J. T.
Amazing meal. Full of flavour/spice/Umami (whatever that is).
Staff were helpful and up for a laugh.
I’d recommend this place to anyone living or visiting Hobart. I’ll be back!!!
S. S.
The most delicious food and the best service. Top quality all round! An absolute pleasure.
H. S.
Excellent food and wonderful service. Dined with friends and we were challenged to pick one entree and main. Instead we ordered a bunch of dishes and shared everything, so glad we did! Every dish was delicious, cannot wait to dine here again!
S. E.
Pretty tasty Asian fusion tapas styled food.
B. B.
Super high quality and so so tasty! Love that the quality is totally consistent too, nice work guys 🙌🏻
J. B.
Great service and atmosphere. Stunning food. I always visit here everytime I come to Hobart.
a. j.
It's very popular, and worth a visit once. The room is bustling (and noisy and hot) and smells great thanks to the open plan kitchen. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, nonetheless I would be unlikely to go back. The ingredients were quality, but flavours were all too similar and didn't really inspire. Much like the kitchen team, it was a touch too white to excite. Perhaps they change the menu regularly and it would be worth a return, but twice was enough for my lifetime.
J. H.
Amazing atmosphere, food is absolutely devine and the staff attentive and friendly
T. A.
The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. Our entree of dumplings and spring rolls were a delight but we were a little dissapointed with our mains.
The greens were absolutely drenched in a black salty sauce, the salt and pepper egg plant could have been much better if it was smaller pieces, the eggplant seemed raw in the middle.
The chicken dish was extremely salty.
Overall the atmosphere and service were great, bit food could be improved with less salty, saucey additions
L. S.
Great service, even better food. We were running to the airport and said we only had 30 minutes, they rushed us to a table and we ordered two entrees and a main to share: chicken dumplings, fish cakes, eggplant tempura salad. All perfectly balanced combinations of oil, vinegar, spices, herbs. Really fresh, well presented, good portions. Then we zoomed out the door. Couldn’t thank them enough for how attentive they were. Fast, fresh and excellent!
A.
Personally I would have rated Suzie Luck's a five star should I have been dining on my own. There were a handful of errors in service level which have lead to the four star rating. I chose the Dragon Banquet and was fairly impressed with the quality, the size portions were at times to be questioned though as some were miniscule whereas others were too large and a lot wastage at the end of the meal and a desire for more of the lesser portioned items. All in all, my meal was great.
The service level left a lot to desire. Chopsticks were requested for the table and only a handful were delivered. The menu clearly stated that it was acceptable to request minimal spice and nuts but no effort was taken to accommodate this request. A couple of people ordered mains only, however there was no explanation of when they would be delivered to the table. As we noted to the wait staff that it was our first time dining here. There was absolutely no enthusiasm or acknowledgement of this great sales opportunity and sadly I'd say many of the guests at our table will choose never to return.
That said, I'll reiterate that I truly enjoyed the flavours and textures of the meal. It simply required the service level that the meal commanded.
F. M.
Amazing food and awesome service. Visitor to Hobart who would come back just to eat here again!
T. L.
The food was delicious! A friend of mine took me here whilst I was on holiday and I enjoyed it so much I went back again the next day for lunch again. Both dishes I had were flavorsome and the service was personable and friendly - and consistent.
S. T.
Great food and service..🤩🤩. Don't forget to try Chicken Skewer..🍗🍲🥘
F. P.
Surprisingly delicious Asian fusion style food.
Slightly pricey.
L. C.
A very friendly greeting proceeded a delicious afternoon snack. I had some awesome korean chicken wings while my wife ordered the super tasty wontons.. But not before we had crunched our way through the delightful seasoned pork crackle and quenched our thirst on a cool pale ale. I definitely recommend!
J. “. W.
The cocktails were AMAZING, but the food quality was not to my liking. The chicken starter was so full of connective tissue and sinew (like eating calamari) that I could not finish the dish.
The wait staff were excessively attentive with the person working in the main bar area often interrupting our conversation to ask if we would like to order more food (every 5 minutes), despite our dining surface often being full of food we had ordered.
E. S.
Great atmosphere. Great service. Enjoyed the cocktails. Some of the food was a little salty....matbe a bit heavy on the soy. But overall great
A. D.
10/10 for service, meals were quite good, plenty of flavor, Pork Hock was only average but other mains were nice. Lighting in our area was to dark, maybe ok for a first/romantic date.
G. W.
Nice food and atmosphere. Aspects of the menu are a little confusing, but portion sizes are good and the waiters where top notch.
A. B.
Made us late night hot chocolates even though it wasn't on the menu. Excellent fast and friendly service. ❤️
T. G.
Outstanding! As a snobby Melbournian I wasn't expecting much, how wrong could I have been. The food was superb and the service was excellent! Very easy to get to and the staff were willing to help us with any food requirements we may have. The neon maneki-neko (Japanese lucky cat) was loved by our children. This restaurant is modern Hobart, waving their flag high as they lead the way into the future. Thank you Suzie Luck's!
J. C.
Excellent asian food selection. A favourite was the Thai fish cakes. Brilliant personalised service by all wait staff, all very friendly and welcoming. Very engaging and readily available catering for all types of patrons. Will be recommending to many friends and family and going back for sure.
A. D.
Made a booking for 715 but couldn't actually have our table until 8. I wasn't fussed about that, had a drink at the bar and the selection was quite good.
Table of 4, ordered the $70pp banquet. Food was good but not to the quality that I used to get at Smolt previously.
The abalone was forgotten so they brought that out last. At the very least they took that off the bill.
It was massively busy there and the staff did a good job on drinks and looking after the table.
This restaurant needs work, I'd go again if someone asked but for the price I'd rather go down the road to Frank where the food is much better and the pricing is similar.
S. A.
Good food, very disappointing service - We checked out their delicious sounding menu online, so we stopped in for some dinner for two. Let's just say this is no place to go if you are in a hurry or starving. When we finally got to order, we got precious little help with the menu but attitude instead. We settled on market fish - but no one even told us what it would be. Our entree took forever to arrive and when it did it was average (sweet chilli sauce from the bottle, really?) and any dish designed to share that comes with 5 pieces makes little sense to me. Also our water glasses stayed empty for long stretches... Our mains again took their time to arrive and when they did, the side dish was the wrong one, even though the waiter himself had made the recommendation for what we didn't get. We said nothing, now being an 1h30 into things, so that's on us... Anyway, what we eventually got was really yummy, so that's something. We'd have liked to order dessert - the banana fritters sounded great - but no one even bothered to offer. Once we asked for the bill we again had to wait for ages and once we had it, no one returned to collect it, so we had to make our own way up to the counter to have our payment finally processed. We left without a goodbye from our waiter or so much as a glance from any of the other staff... oh well. Maybe UberEats next time.

Went here for dinner with a few friends on a Saturday evening and was glad that we made the effort to book and try them out.
Food: The chicken larb, Thai fish cakes, Pork Hock and SKFC are an absolute must try. The flavours were plentiful and the servings generous. My vegan friends on the other hand weren’t a fan of the pad Thai or tempura mushroom/eggplant.
Service: Slow to start but very prompt and courteous later during the night.
Ambience: The place is fitting to be located in Fitzroy / Chapel St in Melbourne and that vibe is what most restaurants lack here in Hobart. Very casual, hip and chilled out vibe.
We would definitely be back to try the other dishes very soon :)
K. C.
Suzie Luck's had a separate GF menu and understood Coeliac needs. We had 3 coeliacs in our party including 2 kids and everyone enjoyed a wonderful meal.
A. O.
My wife and I enjoyed a spectacularly tasty lunch here. We both had variations on Vietnamese style salads and shared some dumplings. I've never had better food of this sort anywhere. Absolutely fantastic.
C. B.
Excellent! Food was a surprising mix of cuisines and flavours, definitely not your typical Hobart restaurant, with the styling feeling much the same! Very unique!
Unsure of prices as I went as part of a work function.
S. W.
Great food and great cocktails..highly recommend
N. J.
Had delicious gluten free and vegan food with lots of options
P. N.
Some dishes could use more assertive seasoning (extra salt, spice, punch) known in SE Asian cuisine. Braised beef rib was outstanding though. Snow egg was okay, far from the famed Quay version. Friendly staff, nice vibe.
S. H.
Very attentive staff and the food was delicious! The menu is huge, so make sure you ask lots of questions to find the right meal for you. The roast chicken was wonderful and tender. It was definitely worth a try!
B. N.
Food was amazing. Service was okay, but could have been more attentive given how quiet the restaurant was. Wanted to book again for a work dinner but was told to do it online - not great. One more time, food is amazing - worth an evening.
E. H.
Food was quite nice, interesting and delicious flavours. Was quite busy so our order was messed up and a dish subsequently rushed. It is very loud, could barely hear one another. There is a vegetarian/pescotarian menu available but not given out with the normal menu.
N. C.
I would like to vote 4.5 stars, not because it was either good or bad, it was actually pretty good but it takes alot to get 5 stars imo and it wasn't 140% perfect (I meant to say 150% but drunk fingers) but it was close. Either way the staff were nice and the food was good. Additionally the beers were amazeballs (that's a word now) so yes you should go there however if it's the difference between me getting a table there and you not please stay away as I'll be back and I'm too disorganised to make a reservation.
T. F.
Quality food, good customer service . Recommended.
C. K.
Delicious food and wonderful friendly service.
S. B.
Absolutely AMAZING food. Highly recommend the Chicken Laab.
B. A.
Went there yesterday with family and friends after long travel. Bit disappointed by FOH in the beginnings. My advice is Everybody look like Indian are not Indians and they are always not uber driver either.
welcome people as a guest and if they are Uber driver they will tell you who they are.
Food was amazing. i increased one more star for location and testy food.
N. R.
One of the standout eating experiences in Hobart. Exquisite, inventive and delicious food is counterpointed by the attentive and unobtrusive service and an array of amazing cocktails. This is more than just a meal, this is a transportive experience.
W. B.
Delicious meals & some great drinks.
M. L.
This place is amazing. Not only is the food fabulous but the staff are vibrant and friendly and full of recommendations. Full allergy friendly menu's available and offered!
E. B.
Good vibe in the restuarant. Got a few share plates. Half were delicious and the other half were poor. Couldn't even eat the asain greens because they were so bitter.

Overall an enjoyable dining experience, however the restaurant lacks the polish of a well established eatery and the height of expectation set by Smolt - hopefully this will come in time.
