Comments of Butchers Diner
C. C.
I had a take away from Butchers Diner for dinner with friends.
I had a cheese burger, octopus & sausage skewer, Korean beef skewer, grilled broccoli and chips.
The beef patty is not like commercial processed mince beef patties. It is fresh and crafted so that it is a beef patty with a texture when you bite into it.
Quite frankly I loved the octopus and sausage skewers more than the burger. The way it is grilled left the octopus tender, not rubbery. The balance between the octopus and the sausage is wonderful. The beef skewers were again tender not overdone so it was impressive.
Because I'm from Canberra, it was comparable to Brod burger (quite famous burger joint in Canberra). Aside from the burger, I think I like Butchers Diner more.

A must visit for me when visiting Melbourne.
Burgers are made well and good quality.
Store entrance is not as obvious so keep your eyes peeled when walking along Bourke st.
They were full when I visited, so i got it takeaway and took it to the nearby Parliament gardens and enjoyed my burger and fries picnic style.

Delicious! It was late and we were hungry, it's hard to find a spot after 8 mid week in Melbourne but this was perfect. Server was very helpful and food was really tasty, perhaps a little over salted on the chips but so good! 100 worth it.
c. f.
Delicious. Did not disappoint.
Lightly toasted burger buns and thick and juicy patty. Hits the spot when U want a great burger.
Snack pack was also amazingly good!
Nice crispy chips with a good amount of sauce!
J. S.
Great little spot! Had planned to come here for a while and it didn't disappoint.
Had the cheeseburger with bacon. Beef is great quality and size.
Picking up the burger I thought I was going to be in trouble keeping it all together but it holds itself together marvellously!
Good little range of beers for all tastes too.
Highly recommend.

You can smell this place before you see it. A lovely intimate diner with inside and outside seating. We had the smoked rump 150 day grain finished MB2+ with hand cut chips and the cheeseburger. Both were really delicious and high quality beef. The hand cut chips were really nice and loved the honey mustard with horse radish.

Butcher’s Diner is a hidden gem in the CBD. The food here is always spot on and the daily specials never fail to satisfy my appetite. I find myself coming back here week after week. They’re open late which is a great bonus. I highly recommend any of their daily butchers cut which varies from day to day, as well as the Japanese fried chicken. You will not be disappointed.
C. D.
Great food... Love the atmosphere. No muss no fuss. But the customer service was top notch enjoyed our server. PS love the absolute anachronism of having a vegan vending machine right beside the diner. Always love choice but it was definitely funny when I noticed.

Went twice a week last week before the lockdown, and great meals, grabbed chicken and bacon on two different occasions
Their Thursday Reuben special is a must-have - our team at the Metro Melbourne Tunnel project loved it
J. P.
Yum yum yum!!! So glad I stopped in here. Service was great, food was even better. Favourite bit was the extra bread to mop up the plate with, they even toasted it for me 🙂❤👍 Daily specials every day, will have to stay a week in Melbourne next time to try them all

Interior:
Not too fancy, no wine glasses unfortunately. Interior is very basic. I think it is standard as for 24hour takeaway place.
Food:
Steak was great! Smaller then we expected but perfectly cooked. I usually expect to have a choice for the side. But here is only fries. I loved the sauce I got it with. I haven’t tasted anything like that in Australia.
Burger was amazing too. Very juicy.
S. S.
Fried chicken, Greek salad, post work magic. This place always delivers.
L. (.
Not bad place, much better if you've had a few and want some good burgers.
Steaks weren't fantastic, however burgers and chips were pretty good.
Definitely recommend getting some water as things are salty, which is perfect if you subside purely off beer.

An unassuming little eatery tucked away in an alcove beside the Imperial Hotel. Looking for a morning coffee hit, or a late late-night snack and can't face any more fried chicken or chain burgers? This is where you want to go. They have a great range of hearty, honest snacks and meals here, with a specials board that is constantly changing. They also have a small but quality range of alcohol available, including pickleback shots. We had a cheeseburger, with the patty cooked medium, it was possibly one of the best I've had - quality ingredients, generous serving, correct burger layering. The offal yakitori was also great - no fancy sauces or sides, just a simple BBQ grilling and a slice of lemon. Now that we know it's there, we'll be sneaking back there for the daily specials. The meat drying cabinet is also a cracker too, all sourced from small, private farms. The staff are prompt and professional, surprisingly up beat despite the crazy hours they must work. 10/10.
M. A.
Service and food were great. Chips (hand cut skin on style) were perfectly cooked! Yum!!
H. A.
Wow. Just. WOW. The fact that this place is open 24/7, I’m surprised there isn’t a constant queue outside the doors all day and night! Don’t let their low key modest space fool you - they’ve got the goods churning out of their kitchens! We had a humble hamburger and dry aged rump steak close to midnight one evening and it was divine.
C. R.
Anyone passing will surely be attracted by the impressive collection of dry meat on display in the fridge. Then looking at the menu will raise your curiosity when there is a range of uncommon combinations of East, West and etc. Music is pretty loud which is another attraction. However it is quite deceiving especially when the food arrived. Prices are slightly on the high side considering the portion and presentation.
L. Z.
It that too many places are open 24/7, but what can be said about 24 hours available burgers?
Jokes apart, been there the other night and got one of the simplest burgers the house offers and that was really good, after all a good burger is about the meat and the bread, so getting those two right and nothing can go wrong.
Will get back to try the other options available in the menu.
B. D.
Have been enjoying meals at Butchers Diner since the day it opened and the standard hasn’t dropped. Same friendly staff and same great quality food which one can expect from the owner of this establishment. Great beer and wine choices - not an overwhelming amount but they’ve done the hard work in picking a selection that is tasty. Highly recommend for an after show late night food. No need to get gross fast food when this is here!
Q. H. W.
Bacon Cheeseburger was good. The fries were somewhat below average. Lots of sauces provided on the tables. Quick service.

I just returned from a 5 day food trip in Melbourne and the Butchers Diner was the best feed I had. The shop has a very cool fit out with glass door fridges showcasing different types of meat. Staff were friendly and helpful. The burger with bacon and Greek salad were excellent. I can't wait to return and try some of the other goods on the menu.
D. T.
Finally tried out this Melbourne institution. It opens 24 hours but they are a Cash-Only business.
I had the Cheeseburger with House Bacon and it was superb. The bacon was in the American crispy style and the great thing was the Beef patty was cooked medium which is the best way to cook Burger patties.
My friend had the daily house special which was the Reuben Sandwich and he said it was good also with massive portions of pastrami.
A. M.
Chuck. Dry aged trim. Wagyu fat. The 3 magic ingredients in this magnificent burger patty.
24hrs cash only meat based heaven. I wish could stay and try all their specials. The Reuben looks amazing but the beef patty they have created could be Melbourne's best. It's beautiful. Get down there and prove me wrong.
F. G.
Never thought that a steak can be served as a take away meal. It was quite good actually. The dry aged meat gave extra depth of flavor. Smells amazing. Still quite juicy even though for take away.
V.
This place is overrated. Food was ok, but small serves for what was paid & chicken was overcooked - no single serve wines, no plates to eat off, no napkins or water bought for our table and no toilets. :(
J. P.
24/7. Wow. House made bacon on the burger, club sandwich and Japanese chicken. What a meal! Old school place. Reminded me of Seinfeld. I will be back. Delicious!
B. U.
They are a small diner hidden on the Spring Street end of Bourke Street. They have a meat intensive menu with lots of options including skewers. You go up to the counter to order and pay. Be aware that they only take cash.
I went with the special of the day which was a striploin with chips. I also grabbed the octopus skewers. The skewers were quite nice but a little pricey at $4.50 each. The striploin was tender and juicy with horseradish on the side. Although tasty the portions were a bit small. I would have like to have tried their burger and hotdog too but didn't have the cash for that.
A. _.
I'd describe it as an American-Aussie Diner, sure has all the aspects of an American one, plus theme of a butchery is a plus for carnivores. The organic mayo chicken roll was splendid, well flavoured and the roll itself was definitely well made; the tofu roll was quite satisfyingly unique, the sauce was defining and fried noodles as a garnishing was really interesting. Their skewers were very good, burnt a bit tad burnt for my taste, their Lap cheung wasn't very similar to that of a classic Chinese one, but still its housemade so its understandable. Their churros were fluffy inside so I found it to be a new texture that I've never experienced, and the sticky date pudding was awesome, but didn't really taste of dates. The sauces, on the other hand, are complimentary and a great pair with their hand-cut chips. Definitely worth I try, plus its 24/7!
M. A.
I ordered cheese burger and potato salad. There were sooo delicious!! I was satisfied with them😋 I’ll definitely come back again!!
S. D. V.
It is ok and not bad. I expected more with the reviews I've been through for this pace. I don't hate it. The food was good and the beef skewers were great. I couldn't really enjoy my organic chicken wrap though. It's good for a quick grab. Ya on a overall scale... it was good. The service was also good and the serving pace was also not bad. Thank you for the service guys.
M. W. (.
Came here for a solid breakfast after a night out and really enjoyed the steak and eggs. Exactly as expected, good portions and simple things done well. The diner stools are well suited for eating alone but can imagine would be great for groups as well.
D. G.
Came in sat down, ordered and had food on the table within 10mins. The cheeseburger with bacon was awesome and the chilli dog hit the spot too. Wash it down with a cold one and bang up a 5 star review. Easy as that.
M.
I really wish Google will let me give it 4.5 stars. The hamburger may look deceptively simple with few garnishes but the meat pattie is really really tasty. The Sunday special Club sandwich is good value and tasty. Makes me want to go back to try other interesting daily specials.
B. W.
Very reasonable price for the best club sandwich and Greek salad in Melbourne!
F. M.
Really nice little place. I discovered it by accident andi will definitely be coming back. I got the Creole Salmon and it was delicious.
A. D.
This has become our go-to drunk / post gig place. The burger’s are incredible. I can say this with my utmost confidence as I am fairly sober. The quality is world class.
The only point of reference I have is Polo Bar in London, this is Melbourne’s equivalent, if not a complete step up!! Give it a whirl
A. M. M.
Decent burger, and the chili cheese dog is one of the best in Aussie.
E. W.
Firstly, this diner is a terrific lifesaver of hungry stomachs in the middle of the night in Melbourne.
Friendly staff, interesting specials.
The cheeseburger with home bacon is worth trying.
Best of all, it has a fantastic street side view of Parliament House especially when it's all lit up at night.
A. K.
This is best Burger in Melbourne. Taste , texture, smoky, extraordinary burger joint. 5/5
Y. L.
Cheeseburger is great! I don’t prefer the one with bacon coz the bacon is cooked too much i think. Need surcharge for card pmt but didn’t tell us ahead
M. L.
Great place for good burgers and chips. The blood sausage devilled egg burger was different and delicious.
T. L.
Came late after a flight from Sydney and was not disappointed. Well cooked meat, crispy and well seasoned but rare and tasty in the middle. Perfect!
J. V.
Have to give this place full five stars. My wife and I had heard about this diner and decided to stop in during a weekday whilst out in the CBD. We ordered the Ruben sandwich with fries. We sat inside and enjoyed the no frills atmosphere and hanging meat suspended into the walls giving way to the open kitchen behind them. The Rubens were delicious and the meat was juicy and tender. The pickled cabbage and mustard spread was in perfect proportions, I’m salivating thinking back on it!! It’s a treat no doubt, one can’t eat like this everyday. I noticed most people there were opting for the burger and fries that too looked impressive, I’m sure that one day I’ll try out the other food there too. if you’re after an awesome Ruben without the stingy two slice meat for $25 options you my be used to here in Melbourne, go to Butchers Diner and spend half that and get twice the food that tastes amazing!!
J.
Hidden gem! Tucked away near corner of Bourke and Spring st, this is a fantastic spot. Great food (along with some delicious daily specials) paired with a good range of beverages. Dont be put off by its small size, this is a great place that fails to serve up a bad meal! Strong recommend to all.
R. S.
An excellent 24 hour food place in the cbd. Burger was very delicious and the patty cooked perfectly. A good variety on the menu providing an awesome alternative to the main stream fast food gains for a late night feed. I also noticed a organic vegan vending machine near the entrance that had some great options including fresh salads.
S. P.
Great little spot in the city for a late night meal. Highly recommend trying out their cheeseburger, it totally melts in your mouth!
A. B.
Fantastic burger and great charred broccolini, all well priced in a small but cosy and casual environment. Dim sim was a bit of a miss.
P. R.
Great little spot with some tasty food options - cheeseburger was on point and the dog was tasty too. Great selection of craft beer in package. Cash only although a 3rd party ATM is on-site as a back up
J. A.
My favorite burger and steak joint in the entire city full of nice foods.
T. W. P.
We saw a lot of good reviews for burgers. We thought we shouldn't follow the reviews and order steak.
We regret after that. So much for not following the reviews. Please don't order their steak, it's not worth it.
우.
Great steak and burger. Everyone chose a cheese burger that I didn’t try. That’s why I should visit this place again.
J. T.
Open 24 hours. Fast service and really good food for the price. Can not go past the cheese burger (w/- bacon) and a side of chips at the end of long trip. Arrive back in CBD anywhere from 2300-0300 and this place never fails as you can see by the #foodporn attached. Has a vegetarian vending machine too. Cash only can be a hassle but they've solved that by having their own ATM. If you do not like their food it's you who has the problem.
A. A.
This place is a hidden gem. Grab a quick bite. Service was friendly and food was delicious and fresh. Menu is small but everything we ate was really really YUM!
C. M.
This restaurant has the best vibe, especially late at night when you're looking for a great feed. Meat was amazing and everything was so fresh. Definitely coming back!
J. C.
I love how its 24/7. Please go if youre looking for a late dinner. I ordered the blood sausage, and i was really impressed. I think its a must try.
D. S.
It’s past 8:30pm and your options for a quick dinner are fast diminishing. Do you wave the white flag and go to McDonald’s or hungry jacks? Now you have a better option as these guys are open 24 hours and they also have a few decent vegetarian choices. Spend your coin here and get a proper meal that will satisfy, the maccas run can be left for another desperation day.
A. A.
Cheeseburger was amazing, friendly staff and fast service and open late which is very convenient for late night eating
A. G.
Hidden gem - meat, grill, pickle.. and American lovers. It's cash only ;( the only fault. Great seating with condiments galore! Come in and enjoy a real diner.
R. S.
Absolute gem. Must visit.
Went for a quick after work beer and couldn't help myself from ordering some of the dry age bar snacks they have on the menu. (Wasn't even hungry but couldn't resist) ordered the octopus and dry aged Chinese sausage. (Amazing)
Amazing knowledgeable and Friendly staff, love this place will be coming back again and again and hopefully try everything on the menu.
Super impressed. Highly recommended. ❤️
B. K.
The bacon cheese burger is, to this day, my favourite burger in Melbourne. Would I say it's the best burger in Melbourne? No, I would never make a statement that absolute. But rest assured, I am a passionate burger lover and this burger is my favourite. Juicy beef, crispy bacon, the bun is soft and lightly toasted and not too sweet, and the pickle, oh that glorious pickle. *insert homer mouth watering sound*. Need I say more?
Not to mention they're open 24 hours. You're welcome
P. F.
Simple menu with awesome burgers, flavors that keep on giving, A burger to remember...
J. H.
Cool little diner in the CBD with some test food.
O. R.
While it might not be the fanciest dinning experience, Butchers Diner has some incredibly well priced and delicious food. The glimpses into the kitchen and their dry aging fridges are done tastefully and provide something interesting to look at, while also showing some of the techniques they use to make such delicious burgers. I've been back a couple times since my first visit and even took a vegan friend here, who thoroughly enjoyed the sweet and sour roll he got.
It's definitely worth a visit if you enjoy a well priced burger and friendly staff.
T.
Unassuming location but damn these guys make some great burgers.
A very focussed menu with daily specials, they just do the dishes they want really well. This is quintessential Melbourne without the pomp and circumstance. Highly recommended.
W. K.
Good food, but definately not a cheap eat.
D. H.
First of all, the drying meat cabinet is a spectacular sight to enjoy your meal to! Friendly staff up for a chat about how great The European next door is, beautiful selection of housemade condiments and finally, most importantly, a quality venison, truffle aoli and candied bacon burger for only $14¡! Can't fault a thing.
E. H. S.
Great little location, tucked and hidden away. Imo best burger joint in town, but has many options.
R. A.
Hands down, the best burger I’ve had in Melbourne. A real classic cheeseburger with quality ingredients. I’ve tried to venture away from the burger every time I go, but I’m hooked, and I can’t stop. Someone help me.
G. R.
Great late night Food. Can grab a beer 🍺 as well.
M. J.
The Ruben is really good quality meat and tender, huge loaf and side of pickle. Value for your money.
Japanese Fried Chicken was also really good with mayo.
Good atmosphere (my gf says the front of house guy is hot).
D. M.
Finally got here after planning to do so before lockdown. Friendly service, great food. Ask about the gluten free options as the Japanese fried chicken is great and they told my wife anything on bread can be replaced with gluten free bread. We will be back.
E. J. W.
Great selection of specials that changes frequently. Follow their Instagram account for updates. Venue accepts cash payment only, but an ATM is located on premise.
D. C.
Top tier place to get a quick bite
R. P.
Excellent meal reasonably priced will go again.
g. y.
Gotta say
They have the best CHEESE BURGER in Melbourne.
The bacon is crispy,
Patty is juicy af.
N.
Awesome space with a stunning meat fridge. We had a late night small meal and it was tasty, had great service and exactly what we needed. The tunes were pumping and pretty sweet. Loved it.
S. H.
Hidden gem for 24/7 eating. Amazing to see them back after the lockdowns. Always a great place of you are the parliament end of the CBD and with a routing menu, you can always come back and find something new to sink your teeth into
M. P.
Great Ruben, great beer selection. Good value. Definite comming back to try the rest of the menu.
M. N.
Great grilled meat prepared and served unpretentiously, simply delicious. Plus point for opening 24 hours, minus point for cash only.
B.
Beautifully done black pudding and deviled egg burger here. Would recommend to any one who isn't vegetarian or vegan.
R. A.
Amazing meat and chips! Live the perrier cans! The view is amazing too!
C. L.
Situation: work function, shared menu/platters, upstairs area including a little outdoors area and bathrooms
Really liked: beef brisket, ox tongue skewers, pork skewers, Antipasto platter, bread (amazing), prawns (loved), chips were too salty on their own but great with the brisket
Service: friendly, polite, professional
Other: interestingly, they own the vegan vending machine just outside. Includes snacks and meal options
Caveats: organiser knows the chef. I didn't stay for dessert so can't say either way. I also can't talk to the salads and supporting vegetables as I couldn't eat them (allergies)
N. B.
Unpretentious bug tasty food. The aged beef skewer special was well cooked, tasty and tender. Good Greek salad and chicken buttermilk burger
P. B.
Wow, just wow - - > 24/7 open, friendly staff, more than delicious food, freaky interior, fair prices
Nothing more to say - > a must in Melbourne!
I. B.
OMG. These burgers were soooo good. I will be searching out butchers dinner again!
J. L.
Steak sandwich was great. Meat was cooked just right - a little on the salty and crusty side, but isn’t that what a great steak sandwich is about?
W. M. G.
If the best meat means the best pattie. This is the best burger.
E. G.
Yum! Always good here. Haven't had the same thing twice and everything has been delicious. Easy place to drop in, share a drop and a few dishes of tasty food
B. M.
The best pastrami toastie I've ever had! It was juicy, tangy, slight chilli kick and packed with meat.
R. L.
Amazing food! Very friendly service and an amazing experience overall!
J. R.
Everything is spot on. Been perving for 2 years finally tried it. Loved everything about them! Had burger and steak. So tasty. If you are a big fan of burgers, try them.
A. R.
The fact that you can see the meats, and the menu has variety you can clearly tell that time is taken for each ingredient and dish. Its refreshing to sample American style eats in Melbourne. The price is a little high but in the heart of the CBD, friendly service, substitutons, daily specials and a perfect location, it just adds to ease for a quick bite..options to order alcohol is a bonus.
G. W.
Great Food and hospitable and accommodating service. We both ordered the cheeseburger, and it was great.
We asked for one burger to be cooked well done AFTER taking a bite of it, and it was graciously done. Very likely to come back again and trying the rest of the menu.

What a great steak! The chips are a house cut style chips (which are also good). Awesome booze selection too. Will definitely be coming back!
K. M.
Love this place. The food. The service. The value. Shared a cheeseburger, handcut chips, a green salad, and dim Sim… All simple, delicious, and brilliant.
C. Y. K.
Best burger I've had, the chips were perfect too. Great location, easy to get to, friendly atmosphere
k. y.
Definitely hit the spot for an amazing midnight treat. Great American diner aesthetic
R. C.
Was recommended this place by a friend when I was starving and needed a place to eat after 10pm. The staff was super friendly and helpful (even looked after my bag when I went to the bathroom) and the food was good. I really enjoyed the variety of hot sauces available. Also they have a great selection of vegetables and vegetarian options despite their name. If you're looking for a hearty homey meal on a night out and don't want just greasy bar food, this is your best bet!
R. G.
Awesome burgers. Interesting dips. Good tasting fries.
K.
Awesome burger. Reasonably priced too. Will definitely go back there
H. O.
Epically good duck sausage special with the best salad I’ve had in a long time.
F. L.
Very nice, the burger I had was very juicy. Would come again to eat the other quality items on the menu.
E. H.
Delicious! Opening till late :)
M. G.
Meaty goodness available 24/7. I enjoyed the cheeseburger with bacon and also the sausage roll. Fantastic food. Cants bear to think about how many calories. Knowledgeable and friendly staff as well as a good beer list make it well worth a special trip or just drop in if you’re in the area. Oh and cash only is not really an issue when there is an ATM at the front door.
D. G.
Great little place, open all hours. Enjoyed the Coney Island Chilli Dog and a Coke. Excellent service and staff attitude. Great experience. Accepts CASH ONLY.
G.
Great food, but cramped seating at peak hours. Also cash only (but there is an ATM just outside)
R. N.
It's fine, I order burger with bacon and steak sandwiche, the burger was delicious but the steak sandwiche too much mustard, we couldn't taste the meat. Another thing was the music too loud, me and my friend need little bit shout to talked.
A.
The best for late eaters like me! I would like their large fries to be large though :)
E. C.
Coney dog Is a must try. Great spot to kick the late night cravings. Cash only
B. M.
Food was amazing! The bacon cheeseburger was sooooo good, crispy bacon, pattie cooked perfectly, great non brioche bun. The steak was pretty good too. No complains at all and where else can I get a steak at midnight. Will be back to try everything else on the menu!
O.
These guys don’t muck around. Good food, no frills and at all hours. Try the specials - in particular the steaks and skewers are always great 🔥🥩
C. S.
Do you wanna eat hamburger with beer? You must try here
J. K.
This place literally brought a tear to my eye, it made me homesick for American places that are just no-nonsense and make world-class burgers. Absolutely the best burger I've had in Australia. Everything I've had off the menu here has been amazing. This place is underrated, it's one of the best places in Melbourne, definitely go here if you like no-nonsense hole-in-the-wall type places. It happens to also be a great "meat museum" if you (like me) like to watch dry-ageing cuts in process.
J. A. F.
Simply outstanding establishment! Always worth trying their specials because they are just that..... Special 👍
J. P.
Amazing burger, one of the best I've ever tried. Will definitely visit again. Thank you!
j.
Saw this joint listed as one of the best burger joints in the world in one major news sites. I had the cheeseburger and chips. They're quite okay. I have had many burgers in my life, here in Melbourne, in the US and some other countries. And I don't think it's in my top five anyway.
B. L.
Brilliant hole in the wall place that we visited twice in 1 day. The bacon is devine, thin and crispy. Blood sausage and deviled eggs roll was pretty awesome , as was the offal on a stick. One of my favorite Melbourne eateries. If you love meat and like to try something different, this is the place to go to.
D. T.
Cool vibe, great burger.
A. D.
I ordered the Japanese Fried chicken takeaway, for $15 I only got about 7 bite sized pieces of chicken. They were all delicious but for $15 I expected a larger serve. They were yummy and I wanted more! :(
J. W.
Great place! Food is affordable and super fresh with a good variety. Good, chill vibe. Love the rotary sauces and little cups.
My only suggestion would be to add a chicken burger onto the menu!
C. F.
I've been here twice now and have to admit I love that it's open 24/7. The first time a friend and I shared a burger which we loved and also a marrow dish (which was a little too high brow for me). I probably wouldn't get that again. I love the chips here too. They are fresh, crisp and taste great. You can really taste the potato. The second time I had the chilli dog which I enjoyed too. I appreciate the menu and style of food here. I prefer to go when it's not too busy.
P. M.
Once rated 5 stars, sadly not as good (food wise) as when I was last down. Will probably go elsewhere next time.
J. H.
Simple and delicious food. It's reassuring to see the staff cleaning when not serving aswell. It shows they take the job seriously.
The place was really clean considering I'm here on a Saturday night, I could see into the kitchen where I ate and it was just as clean. Definitely recommend you try the steak sandwich

Most 24 hour places are a hit and miss kind of game. The butcher's diner was a hit.
My order of cheeseburger, chips and fried pickles was hot, delicious and only took 9 minutes at 10 PM on a Saturday. The burger was medium, the bun was toasted and the guy who gave me my oedwr seemed as stoked to give it to me as I was to receive it.
Next time I'll come here on purpose instead of Google maps showing me to the place 50M away that I somehow walked past.
H. P.
Best burgers in the city hands down.
H. S.
D. B.
Open late...and I mean late! Great place for a burger at all hours. Also have a great specials board and serves beer. Cash only, but they have a cash machine right out front. Gets the hospo crowd after work on the weekends. This place is very Melbourne and well worth a visit.
T. S.
Awesome place! The bacon cheese burger is very nice.
M. D.
Awesome food with great little options and the brisckette was very nice and melt apart
M. K.
Simple menu well executed flavours, and good rolling selection of specials. Usually quite quick even when busy. Waitstaff always friendly. Tonight we had a miscommunication about a dish and when it came out I wasn't able to eat it because of a weird very specific allergy; they promptly made it right and were lovely about it.
I. B.
Quality food, 24 hours a day. Even their salad was delicious- and that coming from me is HUGE! Their cheeseburgers are phenomenal, and you can dress them up in a variety of many flavourful sauces they offer. Oliver took great care of us, and really made us feel at home on our last night in beautiful Melbourne. Thanks for the wonderful food and good conversation, Oliver!
A. H.
Interesting array of rotating specials and one of menu items, has a mainstay menu of fantastic diner style food alongside some nice offal offerings. It's 24hr, sells appropriately delicious food and sells booze to go with it. What's not to love?
m. m.
This place is fine for a 24h place. I live around the corner. It's average quality, for above average prices. That's fine at 2am in the morning, when there's not much choice. However, don't go here when regular places are still open. It's also cash-only. There's an ATM nearby, but it tried charging me an extra $5 for a withdrawal. It's 2020: just get a card machine.
J. B. L.
Came in at 2am but quality seems to be online around the clock. The lettuce in the burgers is crispier than the chips, but they're still some of the tastier chips I've had, that haven't been inundated with seasoning. The ingredients in the burgers are simple and fresh, working well together for a great taste. Except for the bacon. I don't know what's going on with that.
Overall a decent place for a solid burger 24hrs, would have been a 5 if I wasn't sober.
a. c. s.
Good place to eat a sandwich or Hamburguer!
M. K.
Great spot for late night eats..or any time of the day!
S. P.
Just had a nice chilled out lunch here, reasonable prices and awesome dry aging meat to drool over while you wait! Staff were polite and attentive without being in your face and serving time was nice and speedy. A good solid looking menu that tickles the taste buds anytime of the day or night. Not sure what it would be like with the drunk crowd, will have to come back in the wee hours and check it out!
A. D.
Fantastic food. Very convenient.
J. D.
Best Reuben I've had in Melbourne. Open 24-7 generally but might have changed during Covid days. The condiments on the table are beautiful - Jalapeno sauce and horseradish being the standout. Thank you so much Butcher's Diner for existing...and for upholding quality and soul in your food.
g. t.
I love it so much this cheeseburger just sent me to heaven while drunk but I swear it tastes.like the finest dining on earth. deliciouso
T. S.
Went for breakfast - Had the Maple Bacon and Egg burger and the Steak and Eggs. Delicious!
Saw a couple of the advertised specials - The Venison Ruben Spring Rolls and Baked Camembert look fantastic and I'm looking forward to going back!
N. P.
Fantastic food and great atmosphere. Good value too.
D. G.
Best egg and bacon burger I've ever had. Highly recommend stopping in for a great breakfast.
B. E.
Great spot for late night food! Had the chilli dog with chips and it was delicious. Good beer selection as well, with some craft beer and standard stuff. Very reasonably priced as well. Only lose points for no EFTPOS facilities, and it was pretty crammed when I was there. Definitely recommend!
S. G.
My go to for food at late hours in the CBD when I don't want the ubiquitous burger combo (although they DO do burgers and they are delicious).
The Daily specials are always interesting and a good way of exploring the menu.
Cash only, but there an ATM machine.
Staff are really hospitable even in the late hours, and needless to say the food is all made fresh to order (aside from the desserts)
N. R.
The food is great especially the cheeseburger which I ordered. The ambience is excellent with a old school vibe, the staff were really friendly and assisted me with my order. Great place to go as its open 24 hours. The have a wide range of items to offer on the menu. Will go again to try different items.
N. S.
The best place for late night eats. Great food, great beer, and the location near Parliament is perfect for a cheeky meal just before you head home. Try the blood sausage and egg sandwich, perfect food for staving off a hangover.
J. S.
I had high hopes based on reviews. While the food was good, it was not spectacular. I had two char-grilled wagyu skewers with a side of charred broccoli, for a cost of $20.50. The skewers we're rather small (one has just two bites of meat, the other three) but mostly well treated, though one bite was very chewy. The broccoli was the star of the lunch set.
In short: the quality of the meal varied and I left a little hungry.
B. F.
Great food, friendly staff and reasonable prices. Best post midnight meal I have had in a while!
o. t.
If capitalism was a restraraunt, food was alright but slightly overpriced and greasy. Maybe good for if your drunk but then again money would be better spent on a kebab. If your looking for a good burger better to go to Macdonald's or grilld. The staff were nice though and it was a cute little place.
M. H.
For those who love a traditional American styled burger, this is the place for you. No frills, nothing fancy, but low key one of my favourite places to grab a burger in Melbourne. Open 24hrs makes it even better
M. C.
Best burger this side of New York City. Had the cheeseburger with bacon.. Perfectd crust, pink right the way through, crispy bacon and if you must add your own sauce (don't, the burger is perfect without it).
In an age of Melbourne burgers that look more like a dare than food, Butchers Diner is pumping out burgers the way they were intended to be. The meat is most definitely the hero here. I'll be back, possibly even tonight if I can swing it!
V. U.
Butchers diner is hidden away with no signs out front other than a menu. It is also cash only which is a negative especially considering it’s easy to spend $50+ for two people.
Inside the restaurant you can see the meat being aged and pig carcasses in the freezer. The seating is a communal table surrounded by smaller 2 seat tables.
We had the brisket and pork skewers. They are served in metal dishes and the food was excellent and well worth the cash you spend on it.
A. L.
An American style eatery, on the menu are burgers, rolls and charcoal grilled items. I tried the blood sausage with deviled eggs. It was something I've never tried before and it's not as bad as it sounds. The texture is a bit dry and tad livery. The deviled egg provides the needed moisture to the burger. The flavour was subtle and not as irony as liver. What I liked was the number of assorted condiments on the table; pickled relish, jalapeno sauce, bbq sauce, horse radish, dijion mustard etc.
The ground level of the restaurant is relatively small and there are slabs of meat dry aging on display towards the back. There may be more seating upstairs but that was closed off when we visited.
A. T.
'Awesome Food', the chef has put together a great menu that reflects a diner but with his unique touches. Have taken my four kids on several occasions and felt very comfortable in the space and had enough food choices for them.
R. L.
Good steak sandwich, home-style on bread grilled with butter. Kids both had cheeseburgers and loved them. Perfect pre-theatre bite with children. We were also able to order a drink with dinner. Yum!
T. C.
The Thursday special here is a Wagyu Reuben and it's actually messed up. Never in my wildest dreams did I think pastrami could be this good.
G. P.
Burgers, meat and diner food THIS good, AND it's open 24 hrs a day. Come on man what else can you say other than f**k YES baby. I've been here a number of times now and the only thing I have to complain about is the fact that I have too small of a stomach to not be able to eat everything on the menu every time I visit. The daily menu specials always make it a treat to visit. PLUS the chef's random special(s) of the day are always a knockout punch. The thing I find the hardest with going here is fighting with myself between eating something amazing I've had before and trying something new. JUST GO!
J. T.
Awesomeness 24/7. Missed the Thursday Rueben sandwich and Bacon Cheeseburgers. Making the commute into work an absolute delight.
S. K.
Fantastic burgers, a bit small eating area but cosy
A. D.
Great selection of condiments and sauces. Wagyu beef wasn't as good as I expected but at the same time it wasn't expensive so I was satisfied. Chips are great cheese burger was fantastic.
G. S.
I was craving American style food and their bisquits and gravy with a fried egg was perfect! The only thing making it over the top and perfectly hitting the spot was the crispy bacon and drip coffee!!!
Perfection in a 24-hour spot, YIPPIE!!!
A. F.
It's delicious, open all the time, and consistently nice and fresh.
My only complaint are the daily specials!!! Please put the reuben on the menu full time!!! The ingredients are made to last and I want it more than just Fridays!
M. S.
There wasn't much open in the city and then we found this place where I had one of the best cheese burgers I've ever had. Great service and great food for a good price
D. W.
Simply delicious range of burgers and sides that really hit the spot no matter the time of day!
D. T.
Fantastic food all day, everyday and every night! I love going here for their cheeseburger. Beautiful and delicious in every single way.
N. L. (.
Best new find this last weekend in Melbourne - wen went back twice! The offal yakitori and the burger was delicious, as were the donuts with chocolate sauce. Perfect post Harry Potter hang-out spot!
P. S.
Great to have a restaurant open all hours serving quality food. Tried a burger, veggies, salad, chips on different occasions and it's always been tasty! Friendly service also.
j. d.
After dancing for 9 hours prior, the 6am pancakes before heading home with maple syrup and bacon were the B E S T. I couldn't stomach any coffee so the guy offered me a hot water with lemon - what an angel. Staff who totally adapt to the kind of customer at the time is so key at a 24hr joint. Thanks and we will absolutely be back for post-party pancakes.
N. A.
Burger was very tasty but a bit too rare for me, next time I'll ask for it to be cooked a bit longer. Toilets are located next door in a music bar, so not that convenient when taking small children.
P. 3.
You will find some super tasty vegan options if you don’t mind the animal carcasses hanging around the shop.
Probably the only diner that serve coffee exclusively in take away cup, even if you dine in... Is Australia so good at recycling that this is not an issue ? I don’t think so.
P. C. K.
It's good to have a 24 hour place that is not souvlaki or ramen. The burger is probably not my favourite but it hits the spot after a night out with mates. They also have good deals with a burger, beer and a can of Moritz for $18. The place is probably more suited when you are a group of 2-3 people rather than a larger group as the seating arrangements can be awkward. They don't take cards but they do have an ATM at the front to take out cash. They have vego options if you have a vegetarian friend which is nice.
R. S.
Went there for a steak sandwich but ended up buying a Rueben sandwich which was just according to me one of the best sandwich I ever had. My friends had a steak sandwich which was ok but I would go there again and again just for that Rueben sandwich.
M. B. A.
Insanely delicious cheese burgers 🍔
K. W.
Great meat based dishes cooked super well.
S. S.
Fantastic food. If you are after something quick that is of a quality offering, then look no further.
D. O.
Great chicken roll and fabulous chips. Was told the cheeseburger was great too. Looked like a great range of beers and Pellegrino drinks. Bit squeezy at the front of the double sided counter and the stools are a bit high with no footrests. Easily solved, grab a table.
I. P.
Probably doesn't make sense for me to review this place as I don't eat meat ( therefore I have given it 4 stars based on what friends have said) I will say though...if you are a vegetarian tag along with an otherwise meat eating group, the vegetarian options suck. To be fair, it's called butchers diner so it's a bit like complaining about the smoke in a cigar bar.
J. Y.
Hidden gem, sick burgs and the chilli dog is truly special. Hit it in between Harry Potter shows food was cooked super quick and we were gone to devour back in our hotel. Prices are also not on drugs like some other places in the CBD.
A. R.
Bloody delicious cheeseburger. The sticky date pudding was also amazing. Very cool little diner.
P. G.
Have a hamburger here and join to protest against dictator dan
C. B.
Always good range of food. Ordered the cheeseburger hits the spot for a good burger!
S. Y.
Like the reviews state, best cheap eats in Melbourne! The falafel salad is amazing, with generous portions of beetroot, kimchi (that surprisingly works really wellw) and other various fresh ingredients. Classic Amercian diner hamburger cooked to perfection too.
M. K.
Great burgers and lovely staff. Went there for lunch with a few people. Seating was a little tight but the food definitely made up for it. Definitely a great cheap-eats place!
H. C.
Easily the best casual diner I've visited. Great steak sandwich, amazing jalapeno sauce and some juicy ox tongue skewers. Nothing over $20 too!!!
L. W.
There is just nothing bad to say about this place (especially now covid has forced them to take card). The Thursday night Reuben is the best I've ever tasted
P. V.
Really cool spot. Great food and bevies. Always good for a late night feed!
x. v.
I'm very aversed to write a review for this place
Good for groups
Bad for dates
Good for long boosy nights bad for diet and healthy lifestyle
Great for Meat lovers not so much for vegetarians french fries aside!
I'd recommend people with deep hunger and silly behaviour to enjoy this place
Special recommendations chili hot dog and sticky date pudding
Probably will avoid the crispy tofu in the future tho
C. B.
Classic late night snack joint that's open 24hours 7 days a week. The food is amazing, tasty when you are drunk as well as sober.
D. B.
Finally got my hands on the reuben. The sweet sweet reuben. Roll on next Friday.
L. L.
The burger was as good as everyone says it is. House bacon had a nice crunch to it. Beef patty cooked to perfection. Bun super soft.
S.
Genuinely one of the best late night hidden gems I've ever been to. Service was great too
M. S.
Great beer, great food, great service what's not to like. The prices are on point, the beer is ice cold and the menu had a great range of dishes. All thoughtfully well planned and executed.
W.
Awesome cheese burgers.
The menu is cool too.
Hand cut chips and BBQ sauce is flawless.
W. A.
Great for carnivores and vegans alike! Delicious burgers and amazing vegan salad. They are also open 24 hours. Great spot on Bourke Street.
D.
Best burger around IMO. Staff are cool, professional and down to earth. Cash only is annoying. And getting charged to withdraw money is a bit** move.
T. M.
Solid feed, great specials. Would recommend. Bring cash.
M. S.
Delicious food, simple menu.. check their daily specials, whenever you feel hungry even after midnights 😃 just come and fill your stomach, it is 24 hours open
J. C.
Great place, fantastic food. Also accepting card payments now so it deserves full marks. Check out their daily special.
M. P.
excellent burgers, burger fans must try
R. T.
Delicious cheeseburger. You can pick a range of condiments to go with your meal. Fried chicken was also pretty nice.
E. R.
Pretty good snack food in fun ambience with lots of great condiments but pretty expensive for what it is... simple burgers and rolls. No variety of non alc beverages. Not many veg or healthy options.
V. P.
Very nice burgers, great place for a late night snack
K. D.
Great little find in the city. Delicious burgers and look forward to trying a few other things on their menu. Only thing they can improve on would be getting an EFTPOS machine!
R. J. M.
Excellent burger and chips; will definitely be going back to try their daily specials too; I really do recommend this place; great friendly service too.
T. C.
This place is the best. The food is amazing, reasonably priced and the service is excellent. Not pretentious or trashy, which were previously the only two late night dining options in Melbourne.
A. A.
great burgers, aged beef hand cut fries and open 24hrs.
C. S.
Butcher's cut of the day was amazing. Great steak sandwich. Not really a fan of posting reviews or anything, but this one deserves it.
T. L.
Yes no question about it go visit, the burgers are great not there is more its all great.
J. H.
Really really solid burger there. My only criticism is that they only gave me 1 slice of pickle and wanted more haha.
Will be back 100%
C. B.
Food was great, good service. Awesome late night eatery
C. S.
Good for quick snack and full meals
N. E. T.
Disgustingly good food. The simple burger on the menu definitely steals the show. It's open 24hours but cash only.
T. T.
Incredible cheeseburger... hands down best I've had in Melbourne! Can't wait to return and try the rest of their offerings :)
A. G.
I had the Chile hot dog. Who would have thought the brisket Chile was the best part of the meal. Great food!
C. G.
An absolute gem for a late night worker like myself or for anyone needing a post-night out snack. Quality food (not greasy fast food) with great service 24 hours a day.
R. A.
Good customer service.. friendly staff
J. C.
Decent food but cash only with their own conveniently located atm charging $2.5 on site drops their rating. I'd not eat at all if I wasn't hungry
J. M. S.
Wonderful little diner on Bourke Street. Bonus points because I left a personal effect there after eating and when I contacted them on FB to see if it had been found, they had indeed found it and kept it safe for me. Big fan. Will visit again!
M. M.
I absolutely love this place. Such a unique atmosphere and menu. I've been dining here since it opened and will happily continue to do so.
R. H.
This place was absolutely fantastic, the service was very nice, the staff were friendly, and the burgers were top notch. Highly recommend this place.
L. T. M.
Cheeseburger was slightly underwhelming but pickle fries were on point.
E. J.
Awesome burger place, quick service, amazing burgers, great staff.
H. M.
Cheap eats. Opened late!
Here for the steak cheese to soak the alcohol I’ve been drinking all night. ✌️
J. S.
Classic tasty burgers. Well worth a visit.
B.
Good food and good prices here. Amazingly also 24/7! Great to find a place that does quality fast food without overcharging as happens too often in melbourne
S. C.
Just the best damn place to eat in Melbourne... these guys don't know how to make a bad meal, at any hour of the day or night. Keep it up you kitchen fiends. 👏👌
K. M.
As the name suggests, awesome quality meat. Great meals and reasonably priced. Plus, it's open 24hr... just keep in mind that it's cash only.
J. S.
Great burgers and fairly priced, with a classic diner feel. Just a bit cramped, and had to sit next to a hot radiator under a staircase.
M.
Place is the bees dick, don't know any where else you can get a 55 day aged, grade 9 wagyu steak with chips for thirty dollerydoos. Also, the place is open 24/7, not kidding.
E. H.
Had the special, the Coney Island dog, and the sticky date pudding. All were delicious and hit the spot nicely after a night out!
L. R.
Great little spot. Awesome burger and chips. The best part? They got moritz beer
V. Z. C.
Tasty food, I love that they serve parts of animals you can't easily get at other restuarants / diners. They also great selection of help yourself sauces
J. S.
Really tasty & perfectly cooked meats. Highly recommended.
N. W.
Good late night option, very few vegetarian choices
B.
Portion sizes were fairly small for what we paid. The burger however was fantastic. Service was also great.
R. F.
Go the offal yakitori and the blood sausage roll
T. R.
Smoked meat heaven with basic but comfortable upstairs venue with small open air courtyard. Staff do their bit but not quite 5star! Will go back.
A.
Solid food considering it's 24 hours - would happily come here for a late night feed. I recommend the club sandwich.
O. K.
Pretty cool. Different and delicious. Very thoughtfully flavours and well crafted dishes served in minutes. "Simple" dishes executed brilliantly
B. A.
Favourite place for a quick bite in the city after a night of drinks. Cheap, quick and awesome quality. Nothing like it in Melbourne right now.
E. B.
Had Breakfast with my family.
Awesome Pancakes and delicious breakfast burger. Friendly, welcoming staff and prompt service.
A. E.
Good for late night food, during the day you can probably find better value depending on what you order but I appreciate that they are here when I need them! :)
R. L.
Fabulous cheeseburger - exactly what was needed. Fab staff helpful & friendly. What more could you want? A beer pity we had to go back to work...
J. H.
Great staff and food but i wish they would accept card! Also I wish they served standard sized bottles of wine.
T. S.
Yum - is there a better word? Mecha mecha yum in Osaka ben dialect comes close but a word of advice: go very hungry leave very happy.
D. N.
Top quality steak, the cheeseburger was perfect, and there's an excellent selection of condiments to accompany any selection
A. C.
Tried the Ruebens sandwich which is outstanding. But would have given 5 stars if the dressing wasn't quite as sweet.
J. D. P. R.
Great burgers and the specials are always worth to try
L. S. G. N. M.
Nice food
P. O.
Great burger and selection. Good to have something open 24x7 now at that end. Just be warned it is cash only.

This place is great. You get exactly what you expect. I highly recommend the bacon cheese burger.

Quick fast food in a convenient location. 24 hours a day also means that the same good service and menu is available all day!
K. H.
The best late night food in Australia. Restaurant quality food at 2am if you want.

Great food. Butchers Diner is a great Melbourne offering - and open 24/7!

Nice food, quick, pleasant and accurate to the table service particularly because it was late and really busy. Recommended
P. M.
Awesome place that is 24-7, the place to go when in keto mode. Absolutely delicious, lovely staff, and a passion for meaty perfection
R. M.
Great food in this low key place. Steak of the day is excellent. Recommend the pickles and roasted vegetables as a side.
J. R.
Love it! Closest thing I've found to home being an expat American. The Reuben special on Fridays is ridiculously good. Bring cash!
S. W.
Steak was nice. But was very jelous of the burger. Will be getting that next time
A. F.
I give this a 4 because of the type of restaurant. Affordable nice people working there.
The Greek salad and Potato Salad are very good.
A. S.
How is this place not packed out every day for lunch? Apart from the burgers which are hard to go past, the Friday pastrami toasted sandwich is delish.
S. T.
Best burgers I’ve had in Melb! 😋🤤
R. S.
Absolutely amazing meal! Highly recommend
M. O.
A little small, but the menu is impeccable and it's one of the few places in the CBD that's open 24 hours and worth visiting.
K. P.
24h of wonders! Try Blood sausage.

M. C.
This place at the top of Bourke St near Spring St is now a Melbourne must do... open 24/7 and get ya feed on morning noon and night...daily specials..

A good place for shift workers/party goers in CBD

Best cheeseburger I've had to date. Followed by Rockwell & sons. Been here 10 times and never fails. Get it.
