Best Indian restaurant in Melbourne for sure. Had the Goat Vindaloo, Paneer Makhani, and the Chilli Paratha. Service was spot on as well; Really quick and waiters were super friendly as well!
G. S.
This place is great! Atmosphere is chill and cool and the staff is also really friendly. They know what they’re doing and what they’re serving, and you can tell making the customers happy is their main priority. Food is pretty good.100% worth it.
Order Recommendations:
Chilli Chicken
Seekh kebab
andhra fish
and do try the indian beer kingfisher.
Do visit!!!

The best food I've eaten in a long long time. The best in Melbourne I've tasted so far. We ordered Daal Makhani and Tawa Ishtyle paneer with garlic and butter naans. Everything was really really yummy. They paid attention to our preference, the daal was mild for my daughter (she loved it) and the paneer was spicy and super "ishtylish". It tasted so good that we overate 😄 and we will be back tomorrow for more. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.
Staff were all nice and courteous. The location is great and so close to Fed Square. I would give this restaurant 10 stars. 5 are not enough. 😊

Raj is a beautiful young man who served our table and was just a delight. He cleaned, and he recommended the best dishes and he had a great smile on his handsome face. I highly recommend this place, and asking for Raj as your waiter.

The food was so so good! I couldn't believe it. It's literally Indian food that we all look for in Melbourne. The service and the taste is top notch! Loved it. Thank you so much.
V. B.
The best Indian food I have ever tasted here in Melbourne. Loved everything I ordered here. Can’t stop thanking the chefs before I leave this place. They are doing awesome job.
R. F.
Yummy food, good service with great atmosphere.
Will definitely come back

Overall great, authentic and Halal Indian Cuisine. However, the portions served for 3/4 dishes ordered were rather dissapointing and not up to our expectations. Apart from that, the restaurant has an excellent and prompt service with a rather decent atmosphere of a typical Indian eatery.
a. m.
The Chicken Biryani I had there wasn’t too bad.
T. S.
I brought my friends here and they really enjoyed the food. The only issue was that the staff was not well trained. Apart from that if you need parking it’s next door and there is ample space within the restaurant.

It’s a bit late post. My experience with Desi Dhaba wasn’t good before. Went last week as we heard from friends they are doing much better. Had good experience, service by one of their staff Moon was really good. Only thing I would suggest them is to have more options in vegetarian.

Desi Dhaba- we’ve been here so many times over the years since they opened about 15-20 years ago. Food wise, they’re one of the best Indian restaurants in the city. Quite authentic and delicious! However, our most recent visit left a different impression. They currently have a limited menu which is understandable given our current situation in Melbourne with various lockdowns and what not. What I can’t quite look past is how run down this place has become which does not make me want to return in a hurry. Worn out seats, slippery floor, layers of dust on the hanging ornaments, poor state of the toilets and no baby change table (despite the number of families with young kids dining here). A deep clean and spruce up is much needed to make it a better dining-in experience.

My partner (who is a head chef) and I were highly recommended to Desi Dhaba by Ben at Quay West Suites Hotel on Southbank, where we are staying in Melbourne. All we can say is WOW!
We left ourselves in Moon's very capable hands. He is the manager of the restaurant and is truly amazing, so helpful and knowledgeable. The service by all the staff was so friendly and accommodating.
THE FOOD!!! ....It is without a doubt the most incredibly authentic Indian food that we have ever experienced. The sauces are made fresh daily. They use a clarified ghee, which is a cream base as opposed to butter based...we could smell the beautiful aromas as soon as we walked in the door.
The spices are fresh ground and roasted creating a perfect palate explosion. The raita, chutney, garlic naan, saffron rice accompanying all we ate were a very welcome sensation. Needless to say we are extremely satisfied and impressed.

I went to desi dhaba with my friends last night and we truly enjoyed our meal. Amazing service and the staff was also very attentive. I would definitely recommend to everyone do visit this authentic Indian restaurant.

It's the BEST Indian style restruant in the whole of Melbourne! The food is always so warm when served and they server food within 5 minutes of ordering, there's no waiting the food has so much flavour you have to try this atleast once in your life and you will becoming back more and more times that's how good the food is. I also love the Epic Indian style atmosphere you actually feel like your wearing a VR set and on and Indian street because of the effect from the rustic design.
M. E.
I have been here a number of times and despite always being busy, I am never disappointed. The food is delicious and well portioned, and the staff are always so friendly and welcoming. One of my favourite places for a late night dinner
J. P.
Order their butter chicken. The butter chicken was very delicious, very tasty. In my opinion best butter chicken in the Melbourne CBD. And to top it off, very affordable. I try to get there at least once a week to get my butter chicken fix. Staff are helpful and friendly too
J. K.
Came here tonight for my Birthday party….the staff service was excellent and the food quality is awesome. I would especially thank Raj for his great customer service and making my birthday special.
A. B.
As a part time food courier, I have delivered many orders for this restaurant but never tried their food.
I should note that I am an Anglo-Australian, not Indian... I enjoy the different food cultures, so eating here for the first time after I finished work was a great choice.
The food was very tasty and the customer service & friendliness of the waitress and staff was a delight.
I certainly recommend this restaurant for a late night bite... Butter Chicken, Chicken Tilka, Tikka Masala, Naan Bread and many other favoursome Indian dishes.
The best part is... they're open till 2am. :)
B. M.
I'm what you call an HSP - Highly Sensitive Person. And food happens to be something deeply personal - to everyone.
I fervently believe that hospitality is a business where you need to be invested in your patrons enjoying your facility.
Desi Dhaba is certainly one such place. The staff are polite and you can see they genuinely want you to enjoy your food. To me, that's half the battle won.
Now speaking of the food. I've been here easy 4-5 times now, each time with different people. Not once has any of us regretted ordering a single dish. We've ordered the goat, the manchurian, drinks, breads, chicken and veg curries and rice. The curries are well combined, the food is always served hot, the breads are freshly baked, the drinks are cold. The only thing? Rice. Only at lunchtime. But you can't blame a commerical undertaking to cook all their rice at once in the morning. So I can let it slide.
Next order's gonna be some prawn!
I wish them all the best and I really do hope they keep up the good work.
Recommend:
Chicken Tikka Butter Masala.
Fresh lime soda.
Saag Goat
Manchurian
Veg platter.
J. S.
Best food I ever had. Mouth watering and perfect place for Indian food satisfaction. Chicken dish was soo good with soft naans.
R. B.
The service was exceptional and the staff was extremely helpful. Especially Moon, who was helpful and got us seats for our reservations at the last moment! Extremely tasty food and helpful staff! Would definitely visit again!
K. W.
So so so good! Staff were incredible and nice and very attentive. Food was amazing! Food portions look small but once you start eating, is so filling! Flavour is from the gods.
J. C.
The nicest curry I have ever tasted. The food here is spectacular and the service is great too. We will be back x
A. 1.
Food was extremely deliciously, we ordered Bhindi masala, goat masala, and roti for dinner relished our food its must a visit restaurant, with great ambience, excellent service must mention Moon for excellent service and reasonable price 😊🤞
A. R.
Great and delicious You will get nice experience and ambience at the restaurant. Loving and pleasing staff. must try at the restaurant.
R. K.
Very tasty food. We ordered daal makhni, tandoori platter with missi roti and butter naan everything tastes so good. Good customer service.
p. k.
During a first trip of 5 days in melbourne from regional victoria town i have tried several restaurants but for this one i want to say one of the world's best food and service . The only thing is disappointed its really hard to find parking nearby
P. d. J.
This has become my go to lunch place, it's amazing food and such good value. The staff are all very welcoming also, especially my friend Moon who is always ready with a kind word and a smile.
S. A.
Food service and food especially daal is really amazing. Friendly-staff members. I would strongly recommend if anyone wants to try Indian authentic food, they should once here.
S. K.
Good ambience and delicious food. The only thing I can complain about, during my first visit yesterday was, the Dum Biryani was more of Andhra Biryani (very spicy). Rest all was good including the service.
R. T.
The service given by Moon was exceptional. And way helpful. We were also accommodated seats and our needs were also looked after! The food was tasty and service was on point!
W. O. L.
Visited last night food and service was just awesome though they were very busy still they serve as very good 🥰Thanks guys
P. S.
Delicious food. We order food from this place on regular basis. The quality of all the dishes is outstanding. We feel we get the same taste and flavour of food as we get it back home in India. Best place to have Indian food in Melbourne.
R. D.
Authentic Indian taste. Cooperative staff . Only thing to suggest is to keep a little more cleaning. The seats , toilets need more attention
A. P.
Very nice food Really nice service, food was so delicious and perfect for kids as well as adults. definitely recommend.
v. t.
Located on flinders a good place serving Standard North Indian food. The menu also has some fusion cuisine a.k.a Chinese food cooked in Indian style. Also has a large selection of vegetarian and not too heavy on the wallet either
K. N.
Rohit as always is provides best customer service and great quality indian food. Never had any complaints. Love the goat curry.
T. T.
Very friendly staff. Great customer service. Great food quality and great experience all together.
N. J.
Authentic taste of Indian food. I have tried few others in the city but none of them anywhere near to Desi Dhaba in terms of quality and quantity of food. Highly recommended and enjoy your feast !!!

V. S.
Went to this amazing place tonight! Can’t praise enough about the professionalism ! Special thanks to Rohit and his wonderful staff for looking after us ! It was an impeccable performance . Keep it guys ! Finally found a little gem in the town .
S. M.
Cheap and cozy place however it seems they pre make their Naan and they are hard and Oily .The curries were excellent no complaints .Even the rice was a bit wet .The service was Impeccable .But i recomend you do not pre made the naan it ruins the taste .
C. M.
Absolutely recommend this restaurant. Service was amazing, food was delicious and really well priced, in a very casual environment. We will be back.
s. c.
Location is prime nearby Flinders street. It's in front of tram stop. It is easy to go by public transportation. Food was good but quantity was not. Also some sabjis are okay not delicious. But overall food was tasty with reasonable price. Staff was good. Service was also nice. And especially interior was very good. Atmosphere was pretty good. Overall good experience and good food. I'm attaching some interior pictures.
D. D.
Delicious food , one of the best Indian restaurant in Melbourne. If ur spicy lover , you must try Angara chicken. Great service and taste. Will visit again and again. Butter scotch ice cream was a cherry on the cake. Must visit.
E. C.
Pretty happy with the food and the service when I went :) really tasty and came out fast; wait staff were helpful. Furnishings could be a little nicer and could be more comfortable but we came for the food and it delivered - comparitive value for money !
R. O.
Casual and reliable Indian food.
The restaurant is also available on food delivery app. My favourites are the butter chicken, rogan josh, saag paneer, pulao rice, and tandoori chicken. Great for sharing
Wash it all down with mango lassi, and you’re good to go! After dining in you might pick up some souvenir in the smell of their clothes and hair as reminder of a great meal at Desi Dhaba, yummmmmm
A. R.
Food is delicious and good!! I can say one of the best seekh kabab's i've ever tasted but.. a little costly
S. C.
A Punjabi kitchen with the flavour of Aussie is a one of the popular address to many Indians Chinese and Aussies..Mr. Akash the owner of the property take special care supported by his group of people from Punjab.. ladies finger rechristened Bendy masala , cottage cheese with capsicum and yellow dal curry go well with whole wheat roti ...Food is delicious apart from personalised customer care ...though the prices are a Little higher side... nothing wrong to give a try... when placing order please mention your choices of salt , the spice to ensure you are comfortable with the food zone..
N. K.
The ambience is pretty nice displaying ancient Punjab and they have a good selection of items on the menu. But the food is not that great. I had high expectations for food-its okayish. The song collection and ambience with the Punjabi style Seating arrangement gives you a dhaba feel. So I would give 5 star to the ambience, but food is not up to the expectation, so 3 stars for that.
The sweet lassi is nice though.
Z. L. (.
Great value, delicious food and friendly staff. :) Goat was very tender. Amazing Indian spices. Mago lassi was fresh, salted lasi was rich.
m. d.
Food was tasty but naan wasn’t not cooked, half cooked. Customer service So So. Five star for delicious curries
S.
Love coming to this place. Service is always excellent and the food is delicious!!!
D. N.
Dropped in here a couple of times when in Melbourne, nice food and good value.
S. P.
Great Indian food as usual, and they have awesome fusion cocktails. I would recommend trying them out.
a. d. t.
We had the best time celebrating our friends birthday. Excellent food served very efficiently!!
C. K.
I was surprised by this place. Normally all you can eat restaurants have quite poor food but that wasn't the case here.
The food was nice, and the price was good. It is worth visiting for some nice Indian cuisine.
N. S.
Food tastes awesome after 4 drinks and sober it's your average Indian food! Awesome service though. I will be back as I will head to this restraunt after a few drinks in the city 😊
m. m.
Do not maintain required no of staff which increases the wait time. Otherwise in non peak time great service and tasty food
N. K.
Desi dhaba is the best restaurant in Melbourne. The food is so delicious and mouth watering. I love this restaurant and customer service is also good.
R. T.

T. M.
Had dinner with girl friend .Menu is perfect, something for everyone. Service was awesome that Guy Rohit was very accommodating. Will be back soon definitely❤️👌🏻
V. I.
Good indian food, but prices are bit higher. Missed bowls.
K. S.
Very good ambiance and hospitality. The food was really tasty and they didn't use excess oil in dishes which made them healthy as well. We had Indian dishes from many parts of Melbourne but this was different from others. The quantity was generous and wasn't costly.
Overall, if you can embrace and want to try a different flavor of Indian food I strongly recommend this for you
K. C.
Great food and service. Would definitely recommend to visit this place if you are craving for delicious Indian food. On the top of it front staff was really helpful.
J. M.
Best food, great vibes and fantastic service!!
R. A.
Food quality is good but they have to must improve their delivery service. After order you have to wait atleast 20-25 mins to get first delivery then it will take another 15-20 mins as you will order it.
P. B.
Food was ok.
E. m.

Really good food.
I appreciate the way the staff stepped up to help me get what I wanted because I was craving for something that was not available on their menu.
I just explained what I wanted and they got it.
S. H.
We just had the loviest meal. We chose the banquet and we are glad we did. It is great to taste a variety. We even tried some deserts that we couldn’t pronounce but by goodness they were yummy.
U. 0.
Decent food. And, Shoutout to Mehnaaz for her amazing service even during rush hours.
K. K.
Food was really good, but the place was overcrowded and really noisy
A. A.
Excellent service with full of taste. Highly recommended place and will always choose Desi Dhaba…!!!!
R. S.
Superb! I am a frequent patron of this restaurant and I can’t recommend this place enough!
The food is delicious EVERY TIME and the staff are always warm and accomodating.
ROHIT, the manager, is a gentleman, and makes sure we are looked after properly.
All the staffs wear masks and are wary of the Covid-19 safety precautions.
100% Recommended.
Fantastic job!
Keep it up! 🙏
C. C.

But the paneer butter masala was tasteless
P. G.
Indian, it never gets better than Desi Dhaba. Standard is set. Its a proper place to get your cravings satisfied. First time eating in, although I have ordered food from here too many times, loved the vibe. Serving size is great, food is freshly cooked and meat is tender. All I can say is, eat here once, you will not eat Indian any where else! Too good! Keep it up guys.
M. R.
Really friendly staff, relaxed & comfortable atmosphere.
The food was fantastic. Great menu selection from drinks to desserts.
With good prices & efficient service, I‘ll be dining here again.
Strongly Recommended! 😊

S. S.
One of the best Indian food with amazing hospitality, one of the best Indian restaurant in Melbourne. . Great service and taste. Will visit again.
S. C.
Great food and great service by Raj.
R. S.
I have ordered from here like more than 10 times, everytime, everything was pefect. But tonight! The bhindi was like bamboo. Old, ripe, stale, hard to bite, swallow and chew. Atleast reduce the price on those days when you don't have a good collection of fresh veggies.😓
i.
Had dinner with friends at my birthday.thats was very great.food was delicious. Staff was very accommodating. Service was fantastic.highly recommended,,💝
N. P.

Excellent flavour for butter chicken lunch special. Toilets smelled like a port a potty
H. B.
Visited this.dhabba this night. I would say veg Manchurian was so yum and also their service was so Quick and the food served was also hot.
Definately will gonna visit again for more variant.
I would also like to mention about infrastructure, it is really different and matches the name of dhabba also.
Highly recommended.
S. C.
I just had some great food from Desi Dhaba, especially the chicken biryani was mouthwatering. I really appreciated everyone at the restaurant as they were very responsive. I would suggest others to visit this place. Thank you Desi Dhaba and good job on maintaining the quality of your food over the past few years.
R. D.
The best customer service which i got from Mr. Aryaman, He is the best person in the Desi Dhaba restaurant and he always give the best service to the customers and you all know food is always good at all. Moreover, Rest of the things are really well and highly recommended to all.
M. S.
Great curry and breads - always enjoy it here
R. W.
Food was delicious and fresh. Atmosphere was nice. Friendly waitress.
Was well worth the wait. Food sizes on the smaller size but that is the only critique. We will be back to try more
s. S.
Might be the best place in Melbourne to have Indian food .
d. s.
Excellent food with amazing service love to visit with family and friends
B. L.
Ordered through delivery. The Chandigarh Chicken Tikka Butter was delicious. I had that with a side of Masala Korcha. The ‘hot’ spice level packed a punch!
R. M.
Wonderful food and friendly service. We loved it and will be back. The only problem is the highly slippery floor! What's with that?
F. D. S.
Everything was perfect! The food was incredibly good and the staff were very polite and friendly. The price was fair and the portions were big.
Highly recommended! 🇮🇳
T. s.
Close to Indian Dhaba but OZ taste adjusted loaded with cream
S.
My overall feedback... a mid-market value-for-money family restaurant for foodies.
Desi Dhaba in Fed Square chef knows his spices. I’m of Indian origin and have grown up tasting Indian food in most parts of India all my life. I can say with confidence that this Desi Dhaba chef knows how to use Indian spices and bring out the flavours of the meat or veggies in his dishes.
Desi Dhaba has got good service. They’ve got an Indian crew. They are mostly students and are quite pleasant. All learning to become Aussie. They are friendly and well-mannered. Some of them could do well using a strong Deo or perfume :-) But to their credit, they are attentive and they listen. The waiter who attended us wrote down our order and repeated it to us. We didn’t have to wait much to get our (hot) dishes in proper sequence. I was quite impressed with the speed of service, in spite of being fully packed.
Some negatives, the floor in front of the kitchen all the way up to the toilet is fairly slippery. It needs to be professionally scrubbed. Be very careful when you are walking down to the toilet.
The toilets need to be cleaner. Ladies don’t look to the right when you enter the toilet. You might be in for a shock with what you might see! Don’t say I didn’t warn you :-)
About the food... It was Boxing Day. Desi Dhaba was serving their limited menu. We started with Mixed Meat Platter and Tandoori Chicken Tikka with drinks as starters. Both dishes were terrific. The Chicken Malai Kabab was the clear favourite. It was tasty and it was succulent. Then we had our mains.
We had ordered Butter Chicken, Andra Fish, Goat Curry and Punjabi Chicken Curry (for something different) with Roti and Garlic Naan. We followed this with Dal Tadka and Plain rice to finish off like many Indians like to do. Roti first then rice. South Indian could be different. We ordered our dishes “very hot” (chilly hot) but they came spicy and reasonably chilly hot. We didn’t mind it as the Aussie born young adults with us could taste them too. Each of the dish had its unique yet genuine flavour. The Andra Fish was a lovely surprise. It was great to taste a genuine South Indian spicy dish amongst all the North Dishes we had. The Roti and Garlic Naans were good. Came in fast enough. It would have been nice to have a dessert but they didn’t.
All in all a great Indian meal far away from India, in Melbourne.
T. B.
Its a very good indian restaurant if uh looking for fresh and delicious food around.....Special shoutout for the team leaders, they doing really well. I like the way they handle the rush efficiently.....It was an amazing experience, would definitely be back
Thankyou so much guys for being so welcoming and generous!!
R. C.
On busiest weekend with all tables occupied. Ordered 4 entrees, 3 main course, nans and drinks. They were super quick, we were out of there in about 40 mins.
Manchurians, both veg and chicken were stand out dishes for me.
Must try their masala coke, Sachin is good at it.
Great customer service and food, thumbs up to Navdeep.
T. T.
Very good food experience . Indian food at topmost quality - less oil and the spices just right ! The service is great especially a guy called Moon who is very friendly and makes the experience memorable !
L. B.
Personally my son and I had a great experience here, staff where very friendly.
The food tasted very authentic, full of flavour and delicious, best Indian food I’ve ever had!
Can’t speak highly enough about the food.
We had korma, butter chicken, chow mein and one other. Very very good!
Owner/manger really looked after us and next time we are in Melbourne we will definitely be coming back to enjoy those wonderful flavours.
V. S.
I have no words to say about this place. Such an amazing place . Its a big yes to this place . The staff is welcoming. BEST INDIAN FOOD in melbourne CBD. Highly recommended !!!!!
D. B.
Great food, great quality and great customer service. One setback is that the value isn't worth the food. I think either food prices were high for the quantity, or the quantity was very low. But overall great food! Keep it up.
H. N.
I've been going at Desi Dhaba for the last 2 years.
I had Amritsari kulcha previously, and it was really good! ♥
R. L.
Great food, great service. We came without a booking in COVID, they asked us to wait 5 mins and found us a table. We overstayed (by like a couple of hours) and they asked nicely if they could please use the table. Fair enough. Will eat there again. Delicious.

Delicious food and our server Moon was a delight!

Had difficulty finding decent indian food in Melbourne, usually don't bother reviewing there has been an issue. Felt the food and service warranted a 5* review! Good price too. Literally only criticism was the toilets, not very well set up/privacy could be better, but not unclean either and certainly not worth losing points for. Will be popping back!!
N. S.
I would like to come again and again best service done by the staff so fast at th food service and they welcome us so good
I would recommend to come to desi dhaba if you want to eat indian in city of Melbourne
T. K.
I had been here for a dinner with a larger group. It was crowded, though we had reserved table, we had a few minutes wait until we got the table. It took sometime for us to get the ordered items on table, may be because it was a peak time during Saturday night. However, food were all good, authentic Indian cuisines. Loved the taste. Had a great service as well. Place seemed a bit congested, but then it was fine.
P.
Food was lovely, even the naan we customised, chilli and garlic was amazing. I highly recommend their chandigarhi chicken tikka butter masala. Just one piece of advice, start collecting used plates from the table once everybody is done, not when one person is eating and others have finIshed, Overall pretty good experience
A. R.
I had given up hope of finding a good indian restaurant in Melbourne after two years. But this place blew me away with their food. I had the Andhra fish and boy, was it delicious! The malai chicken tikka was succulent and the chutney to accompany it was tangy and complimented the chicken very well. The mango lassi was very enjoyable too. We were pretty full by the time we were done with the starters and took home their garlic naan and tawa ishtyle chicken. We didn't bother to reheat the food and even when the food was cold, it tasted delicious. My only concern was the menu card, which obviously hadn't been cleaned. But the friendly staff and the food made up for it! I'll definitely be going back here for more!
A. R.
The curries are delicious, especially the dhal makhani.
Delivery service is quick and professional. Great experience.
Also, the Indian theme as the interior is so good.
A. P.
Extremely happy with the delicious food & quick & efficient service provided. Will be back soon to have my favorite Chole bhature 😃
S. R.
Love the menus caters all sides of India . The best of best being the biriyani's . The kulfi falooda is super as well
M. A.
I am a foody that is very choosy on what I eat. But I have to say that I have tried almost everything on their menu from Biryaani to Chow mein as well. And believe you me that everytime I ordered I was blown away by the quality of food they serve. And , for the record, Amit is a very professional and friendly Person at Desi Dhabba. Rock On!
r. p.
Great experience. Good food. Great customer service. Harneet welcoming us with smile and provide good customer service. Will definitely visit again.
P. K.
Loved the Banquet menu. ❤
Please open it for uber eats as well.

Best food ! Best service! I really appreciate staff members who are giving there best in busy time .I really like the customer service of Navdeep she is a good listener and always sort me out .
P. S.
Got food delivery from here. Loved it. Had goat briyani and Angara chicken (very different, nice and spicy, loved it)... Would definitely be back to try more.
R. S.
Best food. Great customer service.
They do a good job considering how busy it is.
It’s an Indian local’s favourite so after events like cricket or Diwali everyone clocks here and there are very long wait times.
Also bathrooms are terrible and it’s recommended to just wait til you get home! But food is awesome, authentic and varied.
Must try!
S. K.
Very reasonably priced, great service, very friendly staff and most important of all really tasty food. It's as authentic as gets.
A. L.
The food was amazing!!! Will definitely be buying from them again!
Y. W.
We ordered butter chicken, dhal, and roti for takeaway. They were very good. The portion size was good too.
The staff was friendly and I will come back next time.
S. S.
Amazing food and and quality . Great customer service by Aryan who was serving us. Highly recommended
C. J.
Absolutely loved it, very yum food and fast service. Will definitely go there again.
R. M.
The food was nice but unfortunately they had a limited menu due to the new year day. It would've been better if they had informed about the limited menu when I made the booking.
The staff was courteous though the service was not quick enough.
Recommended snack - Chilly Chicken Indian style
A. S.
A refreshingly pleasant Indian dining experience. Did not expect to find great Indian food. I'm sure I will be back.
P. S.
Lovely indian food generous portions.
B. G.
Thank you for Good service and good food guys it was the best experience.Food was fresh served quicker than I expected. Special thanks to floor Manager who arranged us a table even though there was big group of people being looked after honestly you’re a Legend !
Chef’s got some magic in his hands.
Finally thanks everyone for feeding us.
Keep up the good work Management.
Definitely recommending friends
D. K.
Desi Dhaba is an authentic Indian restaurant. I have been there many times and it never disappoints. The food tastes great and staff is friendly. I believe the restaurant might need to consider better exhaust system as it gets quite smoky at times while dining in.
Recommended 👍 place.
S. C.
I honestly have no idea why this place only has a score of 3.7 when it should definitely be 4.5+ as a realistic average. Everything was perfect, the curries were all tasty and good quality. I am so picky with where I eat as well when it come to Indian food cause some places are usually a let down! This place has reasonable prices too, will definitely be back. It was my friends birthday and they made an effort and brought out a little something. Thank you guys! :)
V. A.
Great friendly service. Best Indian food in Melbourne, very delicious and authentic. An unpretentious approach to food that puts flavour at the top. My sister and I had a great time, please set up in Auckland too.
A. A.
The food is really good! As good as it can get outside India. Love the goat curry and biryani here!
They should definitely get new floors and carpets, it’s really sticky, slippery due to oil spills and probably a health hazard, -1 for that.
A. R.
Loved the food...nice ambience
P. P.
Food was amazing, staff were friendly, very authentic food. Highly recommended. One of the best Indian restaurant with authentic desi taste. Definitely will visit again. Would have given 5 🌟 if quantity was bit more. Quality was awesome.
The funny thing was, they served buttermilk with straw. That's definitely not desi.😅
J. P.
First time, i visted this place and it was amazing experience and his cocktail & food was awesome i will surely visit again!!
m. Y.
really good taste ,first time to try India food, yammy
M. S.

M. J.
Exceptional good experience thanks to Moon and their teammates for suggesting food. Plus the service was super quick.
Very tasty makki di roti and sarson ka saag. On the top of it indian style noodles.
S. A.
Had dinner with my girlfriend. Food was very awsome . Service was very good . Will be back soon definitely 🤙🌹
P. W.
Excellent curry. Proper spicy too 🤭
K. A.
One of the best places I visited before lockdown in australia..... Best place to find good Indian Cuisine and new cuisine to try on for australians. Must Go❤️
S. G.
Good food. Nice atmosphere.
Not suitable for anyone who can't handle spicey food. Their mild dishes are spice too.
D. B.
Good place to have Indian food. Spacious and nicely themed.
Only thing is if they can arrange a proper ventilation then it would be great. Its quite enclosed area and seems the heat from kitchen comes into dining area with no way out.
K. K.
Indian restaurant serves Punjabi food with alcohol beverages
S. W.
Good food. Ambience is nice. For people who like spicy Indian food this is a good place. Ambience will give a feel of North India. It's slightly over priced I feel but overall good experience. And considering its location- walking distance from the closest tram stop and hardly a minute from Federal Square it's a good place. Worth going for an authentic Indian meal while in Melbourne.
d. s.
Everything was good instead of sarso da saag.
A. J.
Amazing food and friendly staff especially rohit and arayman . Highly recommended place
S. S.
Excellent customer service. Get immediate sitting after reservation and very fast food service, very tasty food. Always my priority for dine out....
s. g.
This was the best place I ate in my week long stay in Melbourne. We saw an advertisement for this place and decided to stop in. The owner sat down and chatted with us while we waited on our meal and made us feel incredibly welcome. We're American, and subsequently were not exactly treated well most of the trip, but he made us feel at home. When the food came out, the presentation was phenomenal and it tasted even better. By far the best butter chicken I have ever had. I highly recommend this place.
D. O.
Delicious food, great tasting salted lassi, nice ambience.
B. L.
One of the top Indian restaurant located in Melbourne.
Still they can improve more.
I am giving 5 star for food.
Still i have some recommendations for them as a chef.
In salad I pesonally found white plastics which i showed to waiter.
Tea-Towel is lying in the floor.
Plate are clean, even knife and the fork are kept in proper place. They can focus on glass which are oily.
Great food, great vibe , lovely lovely tasty tasty yummy yummy food but still they can perform outstanding in same service.
All the best see you soon.
S. B.
Food was excellent experience.....great service and taste was refined....the restaurant is quite popular I notice...no wonder...heh.
N. K.
Very good place for Indian cuisine. Both vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes are available. The food tastes good albeit a bit spicy. Make sure to tell the attendant to make the dish less spicy if you prefer it so. The staff is very polite and helpful. The place is popular and busy on the weekends. But it is open till 2 am in the night which makes it an ideal spot for a very late night dinner or snack. It is located very close to the Federation square.
F. B.
Good place for indian food. The dry chilli fish is scrumptious as is the chilli garlic chicken.
The only downside is that there is a weird smell in the restaurant. Maybe the owners need to air out the place. And no, its not the smell of the food. Quite noticeable as I went to the restaurant at a time when there weren't many customers.
R. K.
Hi, we order in desi Dhaba Alo prantha with salted lassi, it's so tasty, we enjoyed alot. We will come back definitely. Staff members are so gud also place is so impressed.
S. B.
What a wonderful experience! We were blown away with how amazing the food tasted BUT most of all the quality of the meat and how perfectly cooked each dish was. We rarely eat Indian however we'll be back. The staff were exceptional, bonus is it's BYO!
J. D.
Its my first visit to this place. During my holiday in Melb, my friend took me there. It was clean and tge staffs were helpful. I loved the chicken biryani here. It tasted fresh and very delicious. My friends ordered naan and goat curry. Both were tasty.
A. K.
The food was very nice and the interior had old style which was down bringing for example the floor had oil etc. The bathroom definitely needed an upgrade. Though the food was AMAZING, the food came in the right price and packaging. The waiter was very nice and polite. Overall this place brings outstanding value for money which is the way to go.
I. M.
Excellent and delicious food that won't break the bank. Halal certified and most of all the owner is a friendly and generous gentleman which left me wanting to come back for more. Definitely will be back with the entire family.
R. P.
Good place to eat really desi tarka food in pure indian authentic style"" must try.
G. K.
I went here with my partner, chef was excellent. Very tasty food with generous servings. What struck me the most about this restaurant was the uinque Dhaba style seating and they even have Indian Cots for you to sit on! Definitely check this place out if you enjoy curries and Indian food.
A. Q.
I like good food, therefore I like Desi Dhaba :)
The food was really tasty, for a really affordable price. Would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys or wants to try good Indian food!
K. K. K.
Very tasty food and friendly staff. I am recommending this restaurant to all people, who want to enjoy food and their time.
Y.
Their open buffet lunch is amazing. For only $15 its all you can eat and it tastes great!!! I love this place. However there is bad ventilation here. My clothes always smell like smoke after lunch here. Please fix the air vents!!
A. C.
Very good Indian restaurant, full immersive and loved by local Indian community. Try the tasting platter (minimum for two): it's stunning and a pretty huge portion. Good cheese Naan (but comes always broken). I'll come back!
A. M.
This place is what I call family!! The service, the food that served and with beautiful vibe its cooked speaks of culture of belongingness and sharing the plate of positivity. To few of us the #ButterChicken story did make us laugh; and loved the way Desi Dhaba have responsibly re- emphasised to all, to stay at home, stay well and butter chicken will be delivered. A ray of positivity, at a trying time for the world. Thank you so much for your spirit Desi Dhaba. 🙏🏾🇭🇲
A. N.
Tried Friday buffet. It was delicious. Varieties were limited but taste was good. Didn't have any deserts but can't complain as rarely you find buffet for Indian delicacy. It attracts descent crowd specially tourists commuting through nearby Flinders Street station.
P. S.
The food was really great and the staff aswell. Specially Aryaman keep it up great customer service. Will for sure visit again when in Melbourne next time
A. S.
Went there last Wednesday. Ordered a dish and told it was not available, ordered another and got told that too is unavailable. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a menu.
Service was friendly, although a couple of waitresses acted a bit pretentious.
The decor is interesting and is strongly geared towards Indian films and sporting achievements.
The food that we did get was okay nothing terrible and nothing memorable.
All in all a place that certainly does not set itself apart from the plethora of other average Indian restaurants. The location is good (near Flinders street station) and will come in handy if you are feeling a bit lazy about going to a better but further away establishment.
R. M.
Awesome staff with a big smile always. Wonderful food and with great hospitality etiquettes. We had visited this place few times now and we love it every time. Being Indian, we do find the real taste of India in the food and warmth in the people out there. Thanks. Will definitely visit again soon.
V. C.
10/10. Good authentic genuine Indian food. Good ambience. Feels like home away from home experience.
Been there couple of times in as many weeks and has been very satisfying experience.
Credit goes to owners (Akash) passion.
N. F.
Went there Saturday night after the cricket after my mate assured me he knew an amazing Indian place. I was a little sceptical because I've had a lot of Indian and everyone always tells me the food will be amazing and I'm usually disappointed.
However this was amazing and the banquet we got was brilliant value for money. The tandoori chicken was cooked superbly with a nice kick of heat, not at all dry like I've discovered a few places do and the rogan josh and butter chicken were amazing, rich and full of flavor.
Cannot recommend this place highly enough for its food but also the staff were pleasent and friendly. The only knock is after we ordered another 2 wait staff came over within the space of 3 minutes asking if we were ready to be served but hell having staff eager to help the customers isn't exactly a bad problem to have.
L. F.
Really good food. Good cocktail too. Perfect amount of heat. You can smell the spices when you walk in the door. Interesting decor and fun music. Nice enjoyable evening and decent value for money.
H. V.
The ambience of the place gives homely feel 🇮🇳❤️ and the food is epic😋👌🏻. The only place which offers food that really tastes like original Indian food 😋❤️🇮🇳 Amazing team! ✌🏻👌🏻
R. S.
Fantastic food, every 4-7 Times a year I visit Here, but this time it was very disappointing. I brought my friends and told them that the best restaurants in Melbourne. But they didn't like it. They did not like tandoori chicken and Angara chicken. There was seeds coming into the mouth from Angara chicken. And restaurant was very hot inside.
S. B.
What a great place. As breakfast and brunch connoisseurs we know our eggs and coffee. This place rocked it.Coffee is a stand-out, best in Ballarat. Love the breakfast menu, with lots of variety. Interior is a bit tight for space & can be dark but this just add's character.
S. C.
Tasty food and wonderful ambience to have dinner with your family. However, weekends after 6:00 gets really very busy and of course you will experience a bit slow service. Other than that it's a great place to visit if you are craving for Indian food when at City.
S. T.
Love the food and ambiece... Reminds me of Dhaba style Indian food... You guys take me back home.. Very legitimate tasty food. Definitely recommend it.
K. D.
Thanks for your awesome food. We came in with no great expectations and thought it was just like another Indian restaurant with not so interesting food. But they proved us wrong. We came in to just grab one or two dishes and share it among ourselves but the food was too good that we went on to order more food and also took food back home for the next day.
R. R.
Great food, ordered a chicken biryani and goat masala on uber and was cooked to perfection, delivered in right time at right temperature in this cold weather.Great job desi dhaba, affordable prices during these hard times. Definitely recommend.
F. S.
We absolutely love this place!
Hands down, best Indian in Melbourne. Don't expect anything fancy here, just really authentic Indian street food. Highly recommend.
B. S.
Good food for reasonable price and spice levels suit the Indian palate. The ambience and service is pretty good. The one big plus is that it's open late night and is the go-to place after a night of drinks, for comfort Indian food.
K. R.
From the food to the ambience to the staff every thing is just 10/10. The staff is very friendly and make you feel home. Lets not forget the delicious authentic Indian food, too good. Must try.
T. B.
Always a Wonderful experience to visit Desi Dhaba, true authentic Indian flavor, friendly staff, cater to your taste. Heck, You even get Kingfisher beer if one is looking for one. Akash, Thanks agn for the experience, would keep revisiting.
T. S.
Best Indian food i have had in Australia by far. The Palak Lamb is magnificent and melts in your mouth, the staff are lovely and the prices are obscenely reasonable for the quality of the food. I have eaten Indian cuisine all around the world and am very happy to have somewhere in my home town that makes such delicious traditional curries.
A. K.
Nice quality and taste. Will definitely recommend for anyone wanting to taste authentic north Indian cuisine.
A. K. S.
Always a delight! Me and my partner always enjoy our food outings at this joint. Food is great and authentic. Service is really very friendly and interiors are innovative. Food items are very much reasonably priced. What else do you need?...:)
J. T.
Friendly service. Ordered Chicken Biryani -chunks of delish chicken, perfectly cooked briyani. Had yummy Chicken Tikka, garlic naan was huge. Prices are reasonable. Very happy to find this place on a thunderstorm evening yesterday.
D. L.
Good service, reasonable decor, very friendly staff, good food, good prices. Been there twice - both times had the tandoori platter. Hung out in the kitchen with the friendly chefs for an hour the first time and learnt how they made some of the dishes. Would definitely go there again.
A. A.
Food was very great. Will be back soon definitely,,🙂🥳
S. D.
Very fresh food. Staff was very lively vibrant and smiley. I'm unhappy that I couldn't pay them graduity.
p. v.
A "typical" good Indian dhaba(a road side restaurant to serve travellers at pocket friendly rates).
I have been there thrice but could resist ordering the same alloo parantha each time.
Food is good and tasty. A bit expensive as compared to the concept of dhaba, but that can be blamed to the location.
Though the food is good, a little effort can be done to hire professional staff. For e.g. when I asked what's the difference between paneer parantha and paneer naan, the staff didn't know it. You must know what you are selling. Hence 4 stars.
A. K.
My favarite Indian restaurant in the CBD!
g. s.
Service nd food quality better than others as well as awesome decorated
S. I.
The Amritsari Fish is perfect here. But my personal favourite is the spicier Andhra Fish which is even more yummy. Rest of the food options are good as well. Sometimes wait times after ordering are a bit high.
K. H.
Great food. Great staff. Great ambience. A bit expensive. But really had a great time here. Parking is an issue near this location. Really hard to get a parking anywhere near the restaurant. The rotis and naans were really well cooked and really tasty. 5 star to the chef.
A. R.
Food was really good. I loved Punjabi chicken curry.. will recommend.
Washrooms were in bad condition.
M. H.
I have eaten take away her now for 6 months once a week on average, I have NEVER had a bad serving of food from them. The consistency is incredible. The flavours are delicious, The textures are always spot on.
S. b. T. S.
Food was okay, gave my feedback about tandoori and chicken in the curry being slightly undercooked, hope it's taken seriously. Good location though.
C. G.
Nice food and lovely staff.
M. C.
I went to Desi Dhaba over the weekend and I thought the food were scrumptious! Not sure why there were negative reviews...but I guess one man's meat is another man's poison. For my own personal tastebuds, the dishes had beautiful flavour and was presented in style. I love how they do the combination of rice, naan and/or roti with a curry of your choice..all for $12 approx. This place is definitely value for money and of course the quality of food is A+. I also love the ambiance of the restaurant...it's not your typical local Indian restaurant. It had a real South Asian feel to it and it made me feel proud to be a Desi! Congratulations! You have made me a very happy customer ☺. Will definitely come back to try more in the near future! Shukriya!
S. R.
Decent food. Nothing to complain about the taste. The price may be on a bit higher side. Waiters are good a customer service. Not a cosy romantic place for two but definitely a place for a bigger group to crash in.
J. K.
We weren't greeted when we walked in, but the lady who took our orders was super friendly and super helpful. Food was amazing! The owner greeted us on our way out, he was SUPER friendly! We will come back next time we are in Melbourne!!
A. A.
The food was good and cost effective.
Ordered chicken tikka, pindi chole, chilli chicken and chicken manchurian.
The manchurian could be more tangy; rest is all good.
Looking forward for more orders.
N. J.
Most Indian dishes are available in this restaurant. But they don't offer samosas and pani puri. We had chola bhutera and aalu Naan. Both were very good.
R. S.
Amazing place for a dine in right at the heart of CBD. Waiter and waitress deals with consumers in the most meticulous and professional way. But then however majority of the credit goes to the Restaurant Manager Pradeep, he made my experience as delightful as he could. Kudos to the team for the amazing hospitality...
T. M.
Visited tonight and the food was not too good. The paneer tikka masala was not good at all. So I wouldn’t recommend panner. Dal makhani was very good and full of flavours. The roti was light and crispy. Three stars because of the price and dal.
A.
Nice unpretentious spot with decent food, unique ambience and friendly staff. The chicken angarey is certainly not for the faint hearted or, to be more precise, not for anyone with a delicate stomach lining. The charpoys near the door make for fun seating.
J. M.
This place is the best Indian food you will ever eat. We eat here at least once a week without fail. The service is second to none with a friendly atmosphere.
Highly Recommended!!!
M. M.
We were here on New Year's Eve and it was chaos- a packed restaurant, noisy, limited NYE menu, tables and chairs squeezed in to accomodate as many customers. What surprised me was their service that operated like clock work and was well orchestrated by a gentleman standing next to the kitchen window. Staff were doing their best in a jam-packed restaurant but didn't slow down. We were attended to, order taken and served instantly. No mix ups. Re-order was not a problem as well. Food on the other hand was just wow. Beautiful flavours and well prepared. I felt focusing on a few popular items which is also their speciality was such a clever idea. Took me back to the dhabas that dots highways of Punjab and Haryana.
Let down was their washroom/ toilets which was a complete mess. I also felt the NYE limited menu pricing was relatively higher. These aside, they served a fantastic dinner. On my list when I am in Melbourne next.
A. K.
Wonderful food, really nice staff, honestly the food here is proper nice real authentic Indian food not like some Indian restaurants that only use salt to season their food! Will defo visit there again and will enjoy.
D. A.
Had dinner there yesterday. Was lovely. Food was brought out promptly. The temperature of the food was perfect. Clean restaurant. Would definitely go back there again! And staff were friendly!
J. B.
Sensational. Absolutely delicious, quality food, good value, freshly prepared, fantastic variety, I've never had better Indian! Samosas were really nicely spiced, paneer tikka so satisfying, chicken tikka great, curries had healthy amount of fresh capsicum and tomato. Naan was delicious, fresh baking on display. 10/10
S. S.
Excellent food, very friendly staff, had a dining with the family today. Highly recommended.
R. K. N.
Good service. Food is okay, though a bit oily. Buffet has about 3 vegetarian and 3 non-vegetarian options. Ample space and place is themed after typical "Dhabas" found in India, with loads of bollywood and cricket posters and Indian music. Interesting.
D. N.
Food here is amazing, one of thr truly better northern style indian restaurants in australia. Though the drink selection needs some work and the atmosphere is poor. I would definitely do take-away here though. Great value for money.
S. S.
Its a late review , but really like to appreciate Desi Dhaba for offering delicious food after the india vs australia match at 12 pm night our group of friends really enjoyed the food and i think the selected menu was a great idea as it did not compromise the quality & taste of food at that late at night .
Great job guys !!
R. K. m.
Had a lunch buffet and the taste was ok. Given the price of 17.99 The number of dishes were decent, around 8 with rice and Nans included.
T.
Good food, had the buffet lunch for $17.50. had about half a dozen curries to choose from, salad and rice. The lamb is amazing!
o. d.
Authentic Indian food just in the heart of the City.... Food quality is way too good.... I would have given 5 stars for food but the service and the staff would only attend you when you ask couple of times.. bit expensive compared to rest Indian restaurants but it is justified...
P. B.
Good customer service with delicious food
g. k.
Excellent food. Excellent hospitality. Smiling and supportive staff. Nice taste of food with reasonable rate. Truely original and authentic taste of food. This resturent deserve 5 rating.
N. G.
Great ambience, awesome food, a bit pricey though.
With ambience set in 1990s this place brings back the memories of old advert and movies as it has walls painted with film stars and top adverts of late 80s and 90s.
We ordered paneer tikka, paneer tikka butter masala, daal tadka, aloo, gobi and paneer paranthas. We also ordered zeera rice with yougurt for the kids to be brought first. Although busy, they oblidged and got childrens order with in 5-10mins, awesome.
Tip: this place gets really busy in the evening, we could see lots of people queuing outside. Better make reservations or reach before 730pm for dinner.
A. S.
Good authentic Indian food. Good mix of veg and non veg food along with classic ambience
K. E.
Come for the food it's absolutely delicious! The depth of flavour, every curry is unique which sets it apart from other Indian restaurants I've tried. Friendly staff and fast service.
A. R.
Group of 6 went there for food. Good food and great service (despite the restaurant being almost full). Recommended for group or couple. Their chilli chiken in a must. If you can't eat very hot or spicy food just let them know and they will prepare curries to your linking.
S. D.
The food is good, but during the weekend it's crowded. So not quite impressed with the ambience.
K. 2.
Have been coming to Desi Dhaba for over 10 years and absolutely love it. A favourite of friends and work colleagues. Decor is Bollywood/not super fancy but the curries are delicious and well priced. An Indian work colleague visiting from India said he thinks it’s the best Indian food he has had outside of India!
Went Friday night again and it was chockers, including w many Indians. Def deserves more than its 3.6 average rating.
My fave is the chicken tikka butter masala. Also enjoy the rogan josh and chicken butter curry
A. S.
The food was amazing! I ate there so much on my Birthday. Loved the service! Abhishek took good care and communicated so well! Thanks for making my birthday even more blissful!
T. s.
Visiting this place regularly for the last two years but somehow noticing that for the last 3-4 months. There is degradation in service provided be the staff. Every time you need to wait for some 3-4 minutes for someone to come so that u can ask for something.
If you are a vegetarian like me and highly dependent on dal makhani and paneer. Then Dal makhani will dissapoint you.
Overall above average place.
F. J.
Food and staff were good. However the floor and venue were not clean. You could actually skate on the floors making your way to your table! Don't wear new sneakers you will TOTALLY ruin them. Oh and no free papdums which is pretty RUDE with the amount they charge...glad we didn't ask for raita...😫
A. S.
WINNER! I was incredibly impressed by the meal that was delivered tonight. The quality and quantity of the ingredients completely justify the price! Likewise - the delivery came fast and with a smile! This will be my go to from now on - can't wait to explore the rest of the menu.
a. s.
Awsum food and service,loved it.
R. K.
A great place to wine and dine, have been going there for more than a decade. The hosts, Rohit and Akash are fabulous people. Whether you go for the first time or the 1000th time, they will personally ensure you are well taken care off. Give this one a try, best Indian food in Australia. Kudos guys!
F. H.
Went here last weekend with my family. Staff were excellent and made sure our visit was enjoyable. Had the Rogan Josh, it was amazing! Would recommend for anyone staying in Melbourne or looking for some authentic indian cuisine.
E. M.
Amazing food loved the place great vibes feel like u are in Punjab
S. B.
Feels like India in Melbourne.. yummy Indian food.. very close to how food is cooked and served in India. Go there if you really okay with the spice and want to taste a proper Indian meal.
R. P.
Food is ok, love some interior decors 😊 place is nice and staff are welcoming.
