Comments of DOC Pizza & Mozzarella Bar - Carlton

This is absolutely the best place to go if you want to eat authentic Italian pizza in Melbourne. Their buffalo is amazing. Love the thin and not wet base. It’s just so balanced flavor. The salami was a bit of too salty to me, but everything else was perfect. If you can eat spicy, try their prawn one, my personal favorite (can’t find the pic though).

Pizza, cocktails and good vibes only! @doc_gastronomia is one of the top Italian places in Melbourne, and they really do meet all your expectations about this place, their food and service. Thanks a lot to @itson_lygon for the giveaway, I got to celebrate my husband’s birthday @doc_gastronomia Carlton beautifully.
The food we had here:
Burrata, the mozzarella was just too perfect, fresh and with the blend of olive oil, cherry tomatoes and basil leaves, it became even more irresistible. Must try, because of the best quality of cheese they caters!
Tiger prawns pizza, perfect for something with a lil’ bit of spiciness, yet packed with whole lot of flavours, cheese, tiger prawns and that pizza base was simply perfect, crisp at the right places. Strongly recommended.
Radicchio salad, we didn’t enjoy it that much, mainly because of a strong bitter after taste.
San Margherita pizza, @doc_gastronomia is known in Melbourne for it’s classic Margherita pizza, it was just perfect, so addictive, tasty and divine. I’m definitely coming back for this pizza.
Aperol spritz, such a classic
Mojito DOC, super refreshing drink
Baladin Cola, we loved it, must try, it’s so different from regular cola.
Panna cotta of the day, we had a vanilla panna cotta with berry coulis, and amaretti biscuits, this was extremely mouthwatering and wasn’t too sweet yet was really tempting to eat.
The service is impossibly super fast, led by a team of kind, cheerful and helpful staff and manager. Loved the ambiance, so chill, relaxing. The prices are very standard and reasonable and you’re bound to have a great time.
So guys visit today @doc_gastronomia to have a memorable and an authentic Italian feast with friends and family. Moreover, this restaurant is a perfect spot for celebrating special occasions as well.

My girlfriends loved it but I thought it was ok.
The dough was great, but I thought the pizza lacked toppings.
Truffle mushroom lacked truffle flavour.
Lasagne was basic but still good.
Prosciutto and margarita were what I expected.
1h15m sitting was a little rushed as there were 4 of us.
Great pizza and I would go back, but I’ve had better Woodford pizza
G. S.
A friend wanted us to try DOC Carlton.
What a gem! It’s not on Lygon, hence, I hadn’t come across it!
Both the service and the food are outstanding!
Our waiter was Gianni (I think?) and he was amazing — strong Italian accent, making you feel like you’re a guest at his home in Italy and nonna is preparing something yummy in the kitchen!
He recommended us what wine to have and we chose the pizza and salad!
The only problem is that everything on that menu looks so good that it’s literally impossible to choose what to have — the only reasonable solution is to keep on going back for more!

Best pizza in Melbourne. The staff were friendly and were happy to answer any questions about the menu. Delicious pizzas and salads. I will be back next time I’m in the city.
B. E.
Doc Pizza and Lasagna were incredible. Best lasagna I ever had. Service from Phoebe was also really good.
Only detraction is the unjustifiably high prices for drinks (e.g. $6 for coke); plus, drinks are not served w ice, but that may be available upon request (:
A. H.
Lives up to the hype as one of the best Neapolitan style pizza restaurants in melbourne. Very balanced with the right amount of sauce and cheese. Even though it’s thin there’s not much flop in the slices. Beats out 400 gradi
G. L.
Being going here for many years. Quality of the pizza are always top notch. Staff always friendly and attentive. IMO No better place for pizza in the area.
N. Z.
The only place to eat pizza in melbourne. The dough is perfect, recommend the menu you cannot go wrong and won’t be disappointed.
S. Y.
Great staff. So friendly even though the restaurant was packed. Great food especially cheese. 100% recommend.
R. W.
Great place for pizza, I’ll start with that. Flavours, sauces, textures are all there as you would expect. Service was good, sometimes a little in your face which some may find intimidating while watching others. Not much else to say, they do their pizza really well and is most definitely worth a try.
Atmosphere is great, but if you’re sitting outside expect people to be walking past you a lot while you’re eating.
I’d be back here, maybe for a dinner next time sitting inside.
R. E.
DOC is always a winner. The food is exceptional and the service is uniquely Italian... which we wouldn't have any other way. The pizza is always exceptional + the cheese & meats are all sublime. This is my go to when I'm in Carlton or when friends come to visit. You won't be disappointed.
B. L.
Wonderful pizza. Get the Peroni Doppio Malto (Double Malt) beer too. Perfect to wash down the Pizza 😍
J. A.
The pizza was as good as anything I have had in Italy. Service was just okay, but it was a busy Saturday night so very understandable. They were also able to squeeze us in very last minute which was great!
若.
the best restaurant in melbourne
everything is soooo delicious
N.
Delicious pizza, great ambience for small group meals. But most of all, our server was a star! Great recommendations that we thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommended for a fancy pizza night out
E. W.
We can’t go past this place for the Pizza DOC with a solumi board. I have read reviews saying staff were rude, but we have never found this. Yes, they are always busy and the joint is always packed and bustling. That is because they make delicious fresh pizza. We have travelled from Central Vic to Melbourne (Carlton or Southbank) just to have their pizza; it is that good! No photos because we’re always eating it before I think of it!
M.
- Burrata 🧀🍅
- Served on a bed of sun dried cherry tomatoe and nudja pesto
- Pizza San Daniele 🍕
- San Marzano Tomato, DOP buffalo mozzarella, DOP San Daniele Prosciutto
- Pizza ai Porcini 🍄
- Wild Mushroom, Truffle Oil and mozzarella in bianco with grated DOP pecorino
My friend highly recommend this pizza place and it did meet my expectations. Lovely hospitality and very amazing food. I’m not a big fan of non-baked cheese however I really enjoyed the cheese served here. They were so light and not stuffing at all. Pizza ai Porcini was my favourite among the dishes we ordered. That hint of truffle was a game changer, so fragrant and delicious. Highly recommend this Italian restaurant. 🥰🥰🥰
R. G.
Very delicious pizza!!!
Also, it was interesting to learn a little bit about fresh mozzarella.
Will deffo be back to try more mozzarella and pizza next time.
Service was extremely good, staff was friendly and knowledgeable.

Great pizzas. Unfortunately the wines, though lovely, are predominately imported with the consequent carbon footprint. Good staff. We currently only eat outside and this venue caters well for us.
S. H.
Friendly service and great tasting pizza! Recently we have gone here with very young kids and they have been really accommodating.
L. K. B.
We use to love coming here, but didn't have such a great experience this time. Pizza was well done as usual, but burrata was bland, oil was flavourless, and my Sicilian mother in law wouldn't even touch the lasagne. Being a public holiday, we somehow ended up being charged $18 in fees for a $70 dinner. Asking to tip, on top of the phol service charge, definitely left a sour taste in my mouth. Not sure we'd come again, except maybe for the pizzas.
l. h.
A pizza with a tangy San Marzano tomato base, seriously good mozzarella, anchovies and Ligurian black olives on a soft and delecate base is your entree for a wonderful pizza and mozzarella bar. Add a glass of fruity light red from a region in Italy and you have a sublime food moment. Unfortunately the lasagna vegetable with truffle bechamel was too thick. Overall a great bar. And you have to love the huge 'Hello, Darling' welcome when you enter the white doors.
V. N.
I have to avoid gluten but DOC has THE BEST gluten free pizza I have ever eaten. You would honestly struggle to tell it's gluten free. There may be small traces of gluten so avoid if you are Celiac. I'm on a low FODMAP diet so small traces of gluten for me are not an issue.
E. T.
The pizzas were wonderful. The pizza dough was so soft and light. The flavours were simple, yet delicious..very delicious. The cured meats with cheese was absolutely devine too! Had a glass of white to compliment both of these dishes and they went extremely well together. We came on a weeknight and it was also quite busy and all tables were full by peak hour. We got here before peak hour so was able to get a table. Getting a table on Friday or Saturday would be extremely difficult I would imagine. There is food reason for people to be queuing up at this joint. A must try!
B. L.
Delicious margarita pizza. But the star is the sweet pizza. Didn't know such a combination works so well!
M. M.
great food, very authentic food, great and friendly staff, a bit noisy place. Pizza is the best in Melbourne! I have been going there for the last 6years. Try tiramisu!
D. N.
In love with the pizzas here, they are delicious, and you don’t have to wait long from ordering to eating. Prices are reasonable for what you’re getting. The dough itself is pretty good. Staff are friendly, parking can be difficult around the area, good luck! Also, be mindful, that this DOC only serves pizza, whereas their Lygon st location only serves pasta, I didn’t realise this as on google maps, the menu linked had both.
A.
Pizza was terrific! I must say the experience itself was very enjoyable. The waiter was very prompt to keep us well fed and hydrated. The upstairs room did get loud at times but this was originally a house, so it's understandable. Prices seemed reasonable to me. A great spot to spend a week night or weekend evening with friends!
S. M.
Great spot, Food & service were great. Wine choices were spot on although a little light on when buying by the glass.
only draw back was inside is small and in current climate you're sitting on top of each other.
d. f.
We had the Tiger prawn pizza and the quantity and taste was really good. Prize is a bit on the high end for the food.
R. D.
Great pizza, great salami plate. However...We were sitting outside and halfway through the meal my wife saw a coffee shop that she really liked across the road and she went and got a takeaway coffee for her and two baby chinos for our young kids (without thinking through that DOC offers coffee too and we were practicailly still dining in at a resturant although sitting outside). Firstly the waitress told us that "you are not allowed to have outside drinks, this time it is ok but you can't do it next time", with a disciplinary tone. Later on she came back and advised that the manager said we can't drink them. We placed them on a garden bed near us instead. There were tables close by, the exchange was awkward and the rest of the meal felt quite uncomfortable. I guess it can be read as disrespectful when one having meal at a resturant and then got drinks from another shop but it was totally a unintentional mistake on a sunday afternoon. We have no issue with having no outside drink but as a paying customer I felt like I deserve to be treated with a little bit more care and respect. It wouldn't be as uncomfortable if the message was delivered with a smile and a synpathetic tone.
I would have given DOC a 5 star on any other visit. But given how uncomfortable today's meal is, 3 start it is, sorry!
C. T.
order 2 pizza which is mageritha and artichoke pizza. i personally perfer the earlier ones. It really brings out the dough and tomato sauce flavour. Simple yet nice. The artichoke pizza has too much flavour that it kinda confuse my taste bud. Overall it is a good pizza with crusty on the outside and soft on the inside dough. It also gets crowded for lunch be prepare to queue otherwise go early to avoid queue. Located near the uni as such it is also crowded with student.
B. L. L.
There's a Chinese saying "happy times pass fast" and without knowing it, we'd spent close to 4 hours in Melbourne Zoo despite the planned 3 hours here. Good thing that we had breakfast early or else it'd be late by the time we stepped out of the zoo. As usual, the small ones were begging for the tummy to be fed - and heading back to the CBD wasn't a good option so I decided to bring them for fail-proof food - pizza! I found his highly rated place less than 10 minutes drive and soon I dropped everyone in front of the restaurant while I struggled to find an available parking nearby. In the end I had to settle parking inside Woolworth's parking instead of risking being fined.
Everything about this place was simple yet practical and functional. Bottles of wines were lined up at the counter to choose from.. the focus is on the pizza as well as mozzarella, salad and cured meat.
◾Salumi board - a selection of cured meats. It came with a choice of Italian Buffalo mozzarella, Australian Scamorza (smoked mozzarella) or Australian fior di latte. Opted for the former as I loved buffalo mozzarella and it didn't disappoint.
◾Radicchio salad with shaved fennel, orange, walnuts, DOP gorgonzola and balsamic.
◾pizza napoletana - San Marzano tomato, mozzarella, anchovies and Ligurian olives. Trust the Italians to make good pizzas. The crust was almost perfect with crusty on the outside, fluffy on the inside... Tomato sauce and mozzarella were perfect with anchovies giving it the savouriness balanced by the olives.
Service was machine-like.. efficient and fast. The tiny weeny thing that I didn't like was the attitude. This place is run by Italians and instead of receiving the warmth Italian welcome, it felt cold from start until we left the premise. Don't get me wrong, the food and service fantastic.. almost faultless I'd say but they could be friendlier. Still I give them high ratings.

One of the best pizzas in Melbourne. Great value for money in a trendy environment and *delicious* pizza. The service is competent and quick. You fall in love at every bite (check the pic :-) ). Definitely worth to have a pizza in this amazing place!
M.
Really love the pizzas, wine and vibe here. Authentic Italian food, amazing staff and just an overall great place 👏
В. С.
We recently visited the place with the family and were a bit disappointed after we saw the toilet , it was so dusty and dirty. I don’t think it is accepted in a cafe. The light upstairs was depressing , I would recommend to add some pendants or something for atmosphere.
J. A.
Long wait on a sunday, but decent pizza that got served very fast after we got seated. Did not quite meet my expectations.
E. T.
Lovely service and amazing food. The DOC pizza is to die for. Best Italian I've had outside of Italy!
M. V.
One of the best pizza places in Melbourne along with 400 Gradi. There is actually a vegan option here now - the Vegana, which is so delicious.
I’d definitely recommend DOC of you like good pizza
v. r.
Pizza was tasty but pretty expensive considering it lacked toppings and wasn’t sliced properly, salad came with no dressing
R. K.
If you love pizza and Italian food in general this is the place to go in Melbourne, pizza was very tasty and very nice antipasto nice vibe will definitely visit again !!
j.
Fantastic pizza, great wine selection and delicious mozzarella. Must visit place for those who love and appreciate real Italian cousin. They also have Gluten free pizza which is great for people as I am-gf intolerant. However as usual the gf dough wasn't perfectly cooked inside. I'm not lowering my vote as it happening everywhere I go. But if the owner is reading it-keep gf base longer in the over or precooked it a little bit before to avoid it.
A. K.
If your looking for Classic Genuine Italian Pizza, look no further.
DOC is everything your looking for, Interesting delicious variety of Pizza, the dough is thin, crispy and yummy.
Staff are polite and friendly, waiting times can vary.
If you want to go on Fri or Sat would recommend booking ahead.
F. G.
OMG and so yum pizzas! Not like my fast food and casual pizzas I have had before. I can taste the freshness of the cheeses and tomato used as a base for the pizza. The dough is quite thin as well as so soft. The crust of the pizza has a very nice texture, bread-like almost like focacia like texture.
Ordered the DOC Pizza with the super fresh buffalo mozarella on top. The Porcini pizza was super tasty with the earthiness from the mushroom and truffle oil. But the best was the Cornutto, the pizza with hot salamis. Super rich intense, and got a nice kick of heat from the sliced salamis. Had a nice side dish or rocket salad with honey and pear. The bitterness of the rocket was sugar coated with sweet honey and the freshness of the pear.
A simply refined and fresh Pizza eatery. Loved it.
A. A.
Pizza was delicious , buffalo cheese was ok
The guy that served us was very friendly and polite
They do charge for any little extra you order, i.e bread, water , swap of ingredients
E. G.
Seriously good pizza! Friendly staff and very accommodating for young families. Highly recommend.
J. S.
up intill around 2019 these guys made great pizza. i dont know what happened but the standard was lowered. breaks my heart
M. T.
Liked the atmosphere here. Looked like all staff were italian, which is pretty cool. The pizza didn't blow us away though, but we have to partly blame ourselves as we ordered Abruzzese not knowing what radicchio was. And there was A LOT of it. A LOT. And it was bitter, which we don't like. Would go back to try another one though
M.
Amazing pizzas and really quick service. Only downside is that their menu isn’t consistent; I ordered the same two pizzas one month apart and they tasted quite different. Also the service upon arrival is always scattered so expect to stand and wait outside for 15-20min.
M. C.
Had my first real pizza after a year in Australia, very tasty. Not wood fire but still excellent. Friendly staff and we didn't need reservation on Thursday night
C. M.
This is a great place to get pizza , of the two times I've been to DOC the customer service has been great, the Pizza's quality has been excellent and the time from ordering to getting the pizza was minimal.
Overall you get what you pay for at this restaurant.
Would recommend
A. M.
Love the authenticity of this place! Delicious Gluten Free pizza base and the house wine is actually pretty good!
T. H.
An otherwise decent experience was ruined by a 30 min wait for our mains. The tasting platter was okay with a good mix of flavors but it would have been much better with fresh bread rather than dry bread sticks. Despite being the second to be seated and finishing our platter quickly, somehow we ended up waiting at least 30 mins for our pizza. The waiter acknowledged the issue but made no effort to make up for it.
Wife and I thought the prosciutto & mozzarella pizza was average and lacked a freshness that might normally come with the tomato sauce.
S. D.
This place definitely delivered with one of the best pizza's my partner and I have had! We ordered the Capricciosa and the King Prawn :) the size was generous and the staff we're great too!
E. M.
Two of us called DOC Pizza and Mozzarella Bar to place a pick-up order. After repeating my name several times over the phone and them hearing incorrectly and finally agreeing to a name unlike my own, we placed a pizza order of the special Doc Pizza and San Daniele Pizza. We arrived to pick up the pizza, unfortunately to find that someone had 'mistakenly' picked up and paid for our pizzas. We were told by a lady to sit down and have a drink of water whilst we waited for our order to be prepared once again. Immediately after sitting, a man said loudly to us 'we need to sanitise this table and chairs!' so we jumped out of the chairs and stood waiting (we were just doing what we were told!). After a short wait, our food arrived. I must say that the pizzas were delicious, and compensated for any mishaps we had encountered from our experience. Thanks DOC pizza, I may be back again to try some other pizzas in the future!
r. a.
delicious pizza 5/5. This restaurant provides the best pizza I have been tried in Melbourne until now. Very friendly staff. The price is good as the quality and taste. Definitely, I will back to this restaurant many time.
T. C.
The pizzas here are amazing and so delicious. We had the San Danielle, it’s simple, it’s yummy ... there’s not much else to say. The goats cheese tiramisu was amazing! I would definitely come back again. It’s pretty pricey I guess but it’s amazing quality. It can get quite busy and there could be a long line depending what time you get there ... definitely give this place a try if you’re in Carlton!
D. P.
I am so glad you are now making plant based pizza (it is not marked vegan but it has no meat or cheese)!. It is delicious! Still my go to pizza bar after all these years:) I remember having the mozzarella ages ago and it was to die for!
It is a fun place. Every time we go there it feels like we are on holidays in Italy! Fun. love it!
C. F.
This is one of the best pizzas I've ever eaten. The crust is beyond perfection. Little bit crusty on the outside, balance between chewy and fluffy on the inside. The tomato sauce is perfect. The cheese is perfect. The amount of basil is perfect. The fact that it's BYO is perfect.
I made an effort in Brooklyn to eat at three of the best pizzerias in the world and they didn't disappoint but this place exceeded expectations. +39 is the only other pizzeria in Australia at the same level as DOC but they both would stand up to any other pizza on earth. I yearn to go back to Melbourne so I can eat here again.
K.
I've been here multiple times, food is always excellent. Great quality ingredients, dishes are fresh and quick to arrive. We sat outside during our most recent visit. Their buffalo mozzarella is very good smoked or on pizzas. The salumi board is a great way to sample a variety of the deli meats. Tiramisu was not bad, although I've had better elsewhere. DOC's forte remains overall their pizzas, but the rest of the menu remains a good complement. Often very busy and can be a bit of a wait for a spot. Staff are helpful enough but you get the sense they are very busy and trying to maintain customer flow in the restaurant.
A. C.
We had the wild mushroom truffle oil pizza ad one with prosciutto and mozzarella. I have to say: you cant argue the quality and freshness in flavour of the pizzas, they are gorgeous! But its my opinion that when dining out its not just about the food. Lets not forget service and overall ambience (e.g. How noisy is it inside, how pleasant is the outside area etc). The service of staff was inconsistent to say the least and although it was a hot day, we chose to sit outside due to how loud it was indoors.
J. F.
Average customer service.
Waiters kept knocking and bumping our chairs when passing by.
Decent Margherita pizza. Avoid the Dom Spech with prosciutto, didn’t have too much flavour to it.
Over hyped.
W. T.
Ask about specials (pizza), had a fig one which was sooo good. All pictured were delicious!
I recommend 2 pizzas for 3 adults to share
J. S.
DOC pizza is real Italian pizza, with efficient (but still friendly) service. Always a good time.
M. D.
One of the best pizzas I ve had outside Italy. The crust, cheese, sauce and the toppings were in balance and complementing each other. The buffalo mozzarella cheese was super fresh. A must try for pizza lovers
A. P.
Great pizza in a real Neapolitan style(trust me, I am from Napoli). Great dought and high quality ingredients, all for a reasonable price, considering the Australian standard. Good variety and really nice atmosphere, recomanded!
J. L.
Soft and warm feeling like towels. I will have dreams about these pizzas tonight!
H. C.
Went before the crowd at around 5 plus. Pizza was great though a bit pricey. One of the best pizza i have ever eaten.
C. Z.
Focaccia was awesome. Pizza was awesome. Salad, you guessed it, awesome!
M. S.
Great experience. Loved the pizza and enjoyed the coffee. Would highly recommend
N. B.
5 stars because the food was absolutely amazing, the best pizza I've ever had! The ohlnly downfall would be the noise level, yelling to have a conversation isn't pleasant... maybe invest in some noise absorbing wall panels.
I would definitely go back though, perhaps at a less busy time. Cheers!
M. M.
Best pizza in Melbourne I highly recommend the San Daniele pizza I can’t eat any other pizza now since trying the San Daniele a few years ago.
A.
Tried 3 of the pastas, was kind of bland. Chili oil was not spicy at all. salumi board was nice
K. S.
Nice little place, very busy if you like pizza then it’s great or mozzarella, but that’s about all is on the menu nice drinks the aperol spritzs was great just like being in Italy, the service was ok, did not like the back ground music was like being at a rave asked to get it changed and they did, if you like pizza then yes go it’s the best pizza iv had in Melbourne
F. F.
The first thing that you realise when you go to DOC, it's that this is a very popular pizzeria in Carlton so you will have to wait on the queue for some time, however you can enjoy a Martini or a wine in a small bar on the side.
Once you are in your table you will be able to select between a good number of reak Italian dishes. I strongly recommend to select a pizza per person and share one more starter, this is has enough food for two. Pizza San daniele and pizza porcini are my favourite ones. You don't need to know anymore, enjoy!
K. Q.
The food was nice but the service staff were incredible.. It really makes a difference when you dine in..
W. L.
Needless to say like everyone else I’ve eaten pizza numerous times but after dining at DOC I felt like all previous times don’t count lmao. This is simply the best!
C. M.
This is a great place to get pizza , of the two times I've been to DOC the customer service has been great, the Pizza's quality has been excellent and the time from ordering to getting the pizza was minimal. …
J. M.
service was amazing. was there to celebrate two birthdays with a small group. waitress was very observant and noticed the birthday cards on the table, and after our dinner when we ordered dessert she came out with candles on dessert and began singing. food was delicious too
L. C.
Excellent food, but they upped the price and the service was sub par from two of the waiters, (other one was good)
M. C.
Had my first real pizza after a year in Australia, very tasty. Not wood fire but still excellent. Friendly staff and we didn't need reservation on Thursday night

N. R.
Great toppings but base so soft you had to fold the slices in half to eat them.
a. a.
Amazing weekly special vegetarian pizza.. just loved it.!!
J. L.
Fresh ingredients, inventive combinations, very filling. Delightful eatery.
W. C.
Great place for lunch. Fav pizza is the mushroom ones. Quick service and yum yum :)
S. B.
Loved the pizza here! The mozerella and mushrooms were delicious. We also got the foccacia... In the future I would not get it if you were also getting pizza. The balsamic went so well with everything!
P.
DOC pizza was very good, the service and location were not excellent, missing table cloths and the tables surfaces were a bit sticky.
m. k.
Wonderful waiters and hosts, delicious pizzas and a great atmosphere. I will be back again!
L. C.
Excellent food, but they upped the price and the service was sub par from two of the waiters, (other one was good)
L. A.
Great pizza. Amazing variety of great ingredients, creative pizza specials that change often. Can get busy.
D.
Great service from the lovely waitress, and amazing food.
L. B.
Magnificent. Worth every cent, great service. Way better than some of the other tourist trap italian places on lygon.
K.
Love DOC! The pizzas are always perfect. My prawn pizza was amazingly tasty and fresh! Service was great
c. j.
One of the best pizzerias in Melbourne. Consistently amazing food, and service, for over 10 years we've been going to multiple DOC locations.
R. M.
One of the best pizzas I've eaten and defi THE best in Melbs. Do yourselves a favour and go and eat some NOW!
R. s.
Highly recommend this place, the quality of food and service is consistent every time we have been there. If it's your first time, try the mozzarella degustation, if you like that style of cheese. It's so fresh and subtle. Pizzas are fantastic, the dough is stretchy and toppings are bang on and generous. Wine list is great too, we always try a something different to tantalize the taste buds. Book ahead as they get super busy.
Y. W.
The pizza is definitely some of the best in Melbourne, but the service is so hit and miss. I've had some nice times here and appreciate the fast-paced authentic Italian vibe, but equally I've had several other times where the waiters have been curt and inattentive (and frankly sarcastic and rude). Which makes for a less than welcoming experience. I'd say come here when it's quieter and you can enjoy the great food without feeling like you're inconveniencing the staff (which is how they make you feel on a Friday night).
M. L.
Really good pizza, love a bit of extra olive oil drizzled on top.
J. L.
Fabulous pizza! Have ordered a couple of times and will order again.
D.
If you want to go to pizza heaven, come here. Awesome and interesting flavours. Must try if your in cbd. The aftertaste is amazing. Still remember it 5 years later

Had a great night out with friends at DOC Carlton. The pizzas are exceptional and the wine list is well chosen. Big thanks to the staff who were very attentive. Can’t wait to return.
D. P.
Treat your tastebuds to these marvellous Italian pizzas!
K. C.
It’s good place for pizza but don’t expect too much 3,5
Z.
Pizza is good and staff is friendly. However, you feel rushed to finish the dinner and leave as you get constantly interrupted with staff checking the table, standing there waiting for you to finish to take empty dishes, asking if you wish to order desert, even before you finish your main meal. You don't get much chance to relax and talk to people at your table. Also, they bring you the bill before you are finished with food and drinks. NO SOUP FOR YOU!
N. R.
Great toppings but base so soft you had to fold the slices in half to eat them.
N. G.
Great spot, fun atmosphere and incredible food. If your pizza doesnt come with buffalo mozzarella, definitely spring for the upgrade
T. S.
Very authentic Italian food. Pizzas are great. The waiter is attentive and his Italian accent is cute. Haha.
F. C.
Best pizza since I moved to Melbourne ! Bravi😉😊
F. T.
Best pizza I've had in Melbourne, fresh tasty ingredients, and super light dough. The tiramisù is also amazing, nothing different from the original one.
If you are Italian and miss Italian pizza, look no further.
P. P.
Superb place. Get a table outside. One of the best pizzas I've had in Melbourne. Slightly expensive.
J. I.
Amazing pizza, seriously amazing. And they have really really good vegan mozzarella, I tried it side by side with the real mozzarella (I'm not vegan but a friend was) and while you could still tell the difference, it was a great alternative. Also highly recommend their Italian craft beers, the Isaac was super yum! We live around the corner so are here often and it is so worth it.
X. C.
I have been to Italy… and this pizza took me right back there!!! 100% the best pizza i have eaten in Australia!!! Please do yourself a favour and try this place, its the closest you will get to being in Italy without flying to Rome!
A. L.
Best gourmet pizza I've ever had in my life!
N. H.
Would have been nice to know about the 18% surcharge on public holidays
M. A. P.
Best pizza in Melbourne! Coming from Europe it was tough to find a place around with good pizzas, but this is just DELICIOUS!
B. H.
One of the better pizzerias in Melbourne. Great service and delicious pizzas. Would happily go back
R. S.
Love this place and they always have the best pizza 🍕
A. K.
I only have this pic taken since i was too busy eating. Pizza is good and the place is cozy and active feeling. Mozzarella is the best here!
J. T.
Really enjoyed the pizza and cheese! A bit costly, but I'm sure it worths it.
M. B.
Lovely venue with amazing food but supper busy all the time, book in advance of you dont want to wait 20 to 40 minutes
S. M.
We’ve been to many pizza places around inner Melbs, but can’t stop coming back here. Comforting to hear the shouting Italian accents and crazy hand gestures as soon as you walk in- first way to know you’re gonna get a legit great pizza. They don’t put more than 4-5 ingredients on each pizza which is exactly how it should be done. Just simple, high quality ingredients, and cooked perfectly. Grazie guys!!
S. B.
Great way to celebrate mother's day! The pizzas are so good and the atmosphere is 100% Italian. This place will transport you to Italy.
F. H.
Excellent pizza. Excellent wine. Excellent beer. What more do you need. Perfection.
A. N.
Pizza sizes are quite decent, cheeses are good.
H. L.
It is usually quite busy here. However, the pizzas come fresh out of the oven and smell great. The staff have cool accents. It makes you feel like you're really on vacation. I think they have a fireplace too.
V. D.
Easily the best pizzeria in Carlton. Fresh and delicious pizza and they can take walk-ins. The porcini pizza is a particular favourite of mine, and although their tiramisu is made from goat's milk, it is still delicious.
T. M.
The pizzas were nice and the wait staff were generally pleasant and kept our water topped up regularly without asking. However the 45 minute wait for our starter was really irritating - it was only a salad and a cheese board and plenty of people who came much later were fed promptly. Annoyingly we were barely finished when they were hovering over us to get us out (which I politely ignored). Also it was absolutely packed with barely room to squeeze into your seat and the noise/acoustics were terrible so had to shout our conversation. Doubt they are meeting the covid restrictions of 2sq mtrs per person.
So overall ok but wouldn't bother to come back.
F. H.
Really nice pizza and fior de latte!
J. B.
Absolutely delicious. We had a first class meal delivered by uber eats to the Melbourne Zoo for a picnic dinner. It was hands down the best meal we had in Melbourne. It’s so nice to be able to access such great food at the click of a button to enjoy at your choice of location because we probably wouldn’t have enjoyed it quite so much just the two of us sitting in a restaurant. A zoo keeper actually recommended you to us and said she’d even heard people raving about you in Thailand. I’ve never seen my 4yo eat such a substantial meal in close proximity to a playground but he was more than happy to polish off the lot before he played.
E. R.
This pizza blew my mind away! Especially the tomato based one with the pesto and salami!
M. T.
Amazing pizza, awesome service and the best red wine under 50$ that you can ask for. Def coming back as soon as we are back in Melbs
A. S. C.
The food and the service from the waitress was amazing.
H. S.
Delicious pizza and mozzarella. Service was okay.
a. a.
Amazing weekly special vegetarian pizza.. just loved it.!!
J. B.
A bit of a wait to get in but that's understandable given its a very popular restaurant. Service was quick and food was top notch.
S. M.
The best tiramisu I’ve ever tried which is recommended by an Italian-Melbournian bestie. The restaurant was very busy so I just ordered for a takeaway which surprisingly came out very quick.
Overall, I will definitely come back for pizzas and more tiramisu :D
M. Y.
Pretty good Margherita, personally, I'd pass on the Buffalo Mozzarella...
L. C.
Great experience here, pizza exceeded expectations and was good value. Sat outside in the rain and staff made sure we were warm, sheltered and comfortable!
l. d.
This place won't appeal to everyone. If you love a typical Aussie pizza stacked with 10 toppings then this may not be for you. If you've been to Roma and experienced a true Roman, Italian pizza, thin crust, simple toppings wonderful fresh and traditional toppings then you will think you've returned to Italy. Simple surroundings but great service, plenty of atmosphere (Italian waiters speaking in their own tongue). Be warned - you can't book so the secret is to go early before the queues.
T. A.
Amazing pizza, good atmosphere and great staff
M. F.
What a great place to spend on a sunny afternoon
S. W.
The pizza is always really good! The guys working there seem a bit short tempered but the quality of the food kind of allows them to be a bit sassy. I'd let it slide lol. Would definitely go there again 😊

Pax #: 2
Occasion: impromptu dinner date
Time: 6:10pm
Reservation: No, was told over the phone to just walk in
Food ordered: Cappricciosa Nuova pizza, one soft drink (adult soft drink!) and one coffee
Charming little pizza restaurant situated just a little away from the busy Lygon St.
Checked in around 6pm on a Friday evening, we were greeted by the friendly staff at the cosy doorway immediately and was led to the table by the wall on the inside (near the bathrooms). That spot can get quite noisy (can feel a roar of sound from near by tables if they all laugh out loud haha), so if you’re hoping to get chatty, then you’ve gotta get a little competitive and raise your own decibels ;)
The staff took our orders and the pizza appeared on the table soon after, and of course it didn’t take too long before this carby delight was in my date and my own tummies!
The restaurant was constantly busy, and fast paced while we dined. Naturally we felt that it wasn’t a time to linger, luckily the Carlton Gardens was so near and the summer night was still young, a taste of Italy was just perfect before distancing ourselves from pizza and social cravers again.
L. R.
Best pizza in Melbourne. Atmosphere is amazing too. Top quality food and drinks in a relaxed dining room.
K. S.
Authentic and delicious, every time the service is excellent and unique, the staff seem to work together so well which adds to the atmosphere!
The food is high quality, fresh and flavoursome and the wine list is small but perfectly curated. The pizzas are second to none!
A bustling restaurant with outdoor seating It’s a Carlton institution and people go back to DOC time and time again!
H. T.
This pizza is so delicious BUT WARNING, when you arrive they will ask if you would like water. Assuming like 99% of restaurants you would expect this to be complimentary instead at the end when we received the bill they had charged $8.00 dollars WOAH, for a bottle of water and than ask if you would like to tip! Left a very bitter taste in my mouth and just felt super sneaky by the restaurant and staff. This was our 3rd and possibly last time dining here.... don’t know we’ll see. Other than that it’s a good place for lunch.
H. G.
Food was ok but service was great
G. Y.
Pizza and pastry are cooked perfectly. Price is extra affordable and in the lower end when taking the quality of food into consideration. Staff are really friendly but there is just not enough staff which is why the 4 stars. The ambient environment is a little on the noisy side so you do have to yell a little in order to talk to the person seating opposite side of the table. Not recommended for dating but its fine after you've dated for a while.
A. M.
Today myself and my team took 6 of our students to DOC. These students haven’t had many experiences like this before and the guys at DOC were above and beyond accomodating. They accommodated the kids pizza changes, were insanely kind and friendly and topped it off with icecream and a candle for one of our students having a birthday. They went above and beyond to give these kids the best experience and I’m so grateful!!
L.
Can't fault any of the pizzas we ordered - porcini, cornuto and DOC pizza. Generous amount of toppings & good dough/base. Managed to walk in & get a table immediately around 8pm on a Weds night
A. G.
The crust was really nice and crispy, though the margarita could have had a little more tomato flavour, the Caprese salad was great. However, some of the servers were very rude, particularly the one who assigned our table.
J. L.
We had a group of 13 booking, which they noted was the maximum number of people per booking.
DOC Pizza and Mozarella pizza were great. They were friendly waiters. Got quite busy throughout the night though and we had to try a few times to get their attention, otherwise the food was 👌.
Would go there again for the pizzas- generous size and good toppings.
A little more on the pricey side but worth.
K. C.
Very nice. Authentic Italian pizza with Italian speaking staff. Salads can be a bit on the small side so if you are ordering, maybe get three things between two people. Lovely selection of wine. Thoroughly enjoyed
H. V. T.
Pizza was very good. Chilli oil a little weak
K.
Food was delicious, perfect dough and service from staff was exceptional. Had a great experience there would 100% go again. Exactly what you want from a pizza place
S. M.
Great food and friendly staff, happy days
D. B.
Maybe I'm just old and grumpy but if I can't get a drink I'm not happy. In the nearly two hours we were there, we had one opportunity to order a drink and one opportunity to order food. The lack of service undid the great food.
S. F.
Delicious food bit very crowded and noisy. Good attentive staff though so made for a pleasant family evening.
A. S.
Great place to be if you want to taste authentic Italian Pizza. They have all different varieties of Italian foods and drinks. The place is quite crowded almost all the times but is really worth giving a shot. The best part is you'll get freshly baked pizza with ingredients fresh and tender while you eat.
N. N.
Loved the pizzas and salad. Lasagna so-so
Y. G.
Went there during the Easter break, it was busy so we had to wait for about 20 minutes or so. But the pizza was worth the waiting time. It's authentic Italian pizza and it does taste different but good. They have a variety of pizzas, staff is very friendly. The only thing to keep in mind is 15 percent surcharge on Public holidays. I wasn't too happy about it.
R. W.
One of the best pizzas I have ever tasted. Authentic, wood fired pizza. The real Italian staff were excellent and recommended the perfect wine. Don't forget your tiramisu after the go with your espresso. Pity that I live in Sydney and may never get a chance to return.
B. B.
Great service, great food! Was good to see the staff adhering to their covid safe plan also!
A. L.
My significant other and I went on a fully booked night so it did take a while to get into the restaurant. Staff were friendly while we waited and we got regular (and accurate) updates as to how long we needed to wait which I appreciate. The space is a little cramped when it's busy but the food definitely makes up for it. You can tell it's genuine mozzarella and Italian food, which makes the relatively high price, in my opinion, worth it. Would recommend
G. R.
Pretty good gluten free bases and yummy toppings. Relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
T. N.
Best pizza I’ve had by far and the guy at the bar, Andrea, the manager Giulio, Gisell and simone are incredibly be nice and accommodating
S. J.
The pizza is fantastic and you should try it. This isn't the place to go and really enjoy your meal. It's fast paced and the turn around is quick. You can feel them waiting to clear your table.
Service is however really friendly and attentive. The wine selection is good.
Would come back here for a pizza anytime. Delicious.
S. P.
Accommodating staff with a very welcoming feel and they serve great pizza which comes in decent time. My only complaint would’ve been the music that was played. It was a pretty intense (albeit quiet) house beat which felt like it had played throughout the whole meal. Obviously that is just a personal preference but didn’t really suit the overall vibe. Great food regardless.
A.
Allright....
Being Italian this is a bit tricky, guys were very welcoming and friendly, pizza was average (To my standard since I live in Florence IT) but being in Australia and eating such good quality pizza dough was really good.
I have to say that 94 dollars for 2 pizzas 2 glasses of wine a shared dessert and one coffee ... Was a bit too much even for Australia.
But if you want the closest thing to an authentic Italian pizza and you find yourself in Melbourne I don't think you have many alternatives.
T. C.
Love this place! When I feel like pizza I always come here. Real Italian pizza and atmosphere. Good wines and cheese as well. Also they have deli nearby and they are great selection of real Italian food. Both places are always busy but staff are so helpful. Can’t wait to visit them again soon.
A. B.
One of the best pizza places in Melbourne!!
J. L.
Fresh ingredients, inventive combinations, very filling. Delightful eatery.
A. M.
Efficient friendly service. Authentic pizza. Delicious and fresh. A mixup with our order was acknowledged and rectified with apologies. Would definitely return again.
L. M.
Without a doubt THE best pizza in Melbourne. Don't bother going anywhere else! You won't find pizza like this anywhere else...expect for their other locations.
Make sure you get the San Deniele pizza!
Their customer service is always great, DOC never disappoints.
A. F.
Visited Melbourne on a short business trip recently and was lucky enough that my local colleagues introduced us to this spot. What a great find!!
Best pizza EVER!!
Service great and the staff treat you like a family friend.
This place needs to be on the MUST DO list!
V. S.
After my visit to Italy, I was craving for authentic pizza and doc doesn't disappoint. There is a reason this place has so many good reviews. One of the best pizza I ever had in Melbourne and I will keep coming in future to enjoy them.
E. N. S. (.
Best service, excellent food as per my picky palette.
Best real Italian pizza in Melbourne !!!
They also have the Delicatessen shop where you can buy lovely truffle oil and cheese. Worth having a look
S. K.
+ good taste …
+ wide range of options, including vegetarian, vegan and gluten free ...
- over priced ...
- waiters have an attitude ...
- too busy and noisy
I won't recommend this place. As much as it's famous, it's over rated!!
The pizza is good, but not as great as many people think//say. What I don't like at DOC is their rude staff and noisy place. It's definitely not a nice people to spend a nice cosy evening.
T.
Used to be like pizza from Italy i.e. simple and awesome. This time around, very much lacking in flavour. Not sure we will be back. And still hate being offered 'still' water at $8 a bottle. Have sparkling or tap, for pity's sake.
S. K.
The best pizza I have ever had in Melbourne. Absolutely amazing and a great little spot as well. Can't fault the quality of the pizza but if I had to give a recommendation that would be to invest in a heater outside for customers waiting for a table.
C. A.
By far, BY FAR the best pizza in Melbourne (in my opinion). I've tried other highly recommended pizza places in South Yarra, Brunswick, CBD etc, but D.O.C never fails to amaze me with their delicious pizzas. Shout out to the Mushroom pizza and the Buffalo mozzarella maragarita pizza. I will literall never not take my friends to this place. Hands down, phenomenal.
W.
Great pizzas!!! What an Italian stallion!
Can’t really fault the pizzas here, they are exactly how wood fired pizzas should be. Soft bases because of good quality pizza dough which is used, toppings and sauce spread all the way to the edges, quality ingredients including the sauce and cheese which are used, and all that good stuff.
The waiters are all Italian.
The wines by the glass were very impressive and great for drinking with pizza.
They have the beautiful imported buffalo mozzarella from Italy here on the menu too. They put this mozzarella on their “DOC” pizza, which is a Margherita that they add the cheese to on top of after it’s cooked. It’s nice but I personally prefer this cheese as a side to be honest, just because it comes barely melted and cold on top (which is how it’s intended). It’s still nice on top but I just think it’s better for a side dish and just order two legit pizzas without it. Because you can order the mozzarella by itself as a side. But it’s a good pizza anyway!
The salami pizza was execent, had great salami on it and they use a little bit of pesto sauce too.
Olive oil and cracked pepper are available on each table.
Gets a ✅ from Ronald!
P. L.
After a few nights of eating a lot of Asian food it was nice to get a taste of Italian to change things up and you can definitely taste the authenticity here. The wait staff are pretty attentive but at the same time came off a little bit snobby. The food was great but I found the gnocchi lacking a bit of flavor however the linguine was good. Drinks were also a bit pricy but it's almost the standard you get from ordering from restaurants.
O. T.
Delicious pizza, fantastic service.
T. M.
I came here the other day and drank a negroni. It was delicious. The staff were pretty cool guys who were very attentive. If you are looking for a nice place to have some good drinks and delicious snacks this is the place. My only regret was that we didn't come here to eat. The people in the next table were eating these mad looking pizzas and the smell of them was so tantalizing. I nearly cancelled my dinner plans and ordered one. I will be back another time to try the food.
M. J.
This place had some of the best woodfired pizza I have ever tasted. I was sceptical about paying extra for premium ingredients but it was really worth it.
S. F.
Best Pizza in Melbourne hands down. Hard to go past the San Daniele however the porcini pizza and their specials are usually good too. Due to 45 minute wait for table, they get a 4 star however it is worth the wait. Waiters and waitresses usually very good. Food comes out quickly.
L. F.
The pizzas here are great, i order them regularly. Today i decided to splurge and also order the tiramisu. It cost $13. Flip, a bit pricey...."Why not?" I thought, being in need of a Lockdown 2.0 pick-me-up (appropriate since that's what tiramisu means). It arrived via delivery in a takeaway coffe cup. A single serve barely enough for one person. I estimate it contained the equivalent of 1.5 savoiardi biscuits in total. Very disappointing.
A. I.
Absolutely the best pizza in Melbourne in my opinion! A perfect Napoli style with chewy pizza with crispy edge. The toppings are fresh and I liked the burrata cheese. I like pizza and have visited over 100 restaurants in my life all over the world but this was in my top 5 :) The interior is simple and stylish.
N. B.
Whoever said this is the best pizza in Melbourne was right. The staff were knowledgeable about the fantastic wines too
E. K.
One of the best pizza place in Melbourne. Thin crispy and perfect balance of ingredients on the pizzas. The antipasto was also excellent! I normally dont eat olives but these are great and not too salty. The buffalo mozzarella are chewy and nice!
K.
Our favorite pizza in Melbourne! We’ve been here seven times and counting. Unbeatable service as well. The lasagne and tiramisu is highly recommended by both me and my partner.
L. R.
I have eaten here many times over the last few years. The food and wine is excellent and the service is always friendly and efficient. My credit card was accidentally charged twice last week, and they kept phoning me and following up until the issue was resolved. Great service all round!
S. H.
Friendly staff, great little beer garden to sit and chill if you need to wait for a table which we only waited 10 minutes, pizzas were amazing like really dam good! The whole vibe of the place is just cool it's packed all the time for a reason! 👏 Well done guys
K. T.
I always enjoy DOC pizzas when I get some, but personally don't like sitting in and eating. The atmosphere is noisy and it's hard to listen and talk to the people around you. Therefore, to get the best of both worlds, where you are able to eat delicious pizzas in a comfortable surrounding, I'd suggest getting their pizzas takeaway and then heading home or heading to a park (Carlton Gardens?) with friends to eat it. The prosciutto pizza is incredible. The cheese and cured meats platter is also a must.
Y. L.
DOC makes the most authentic Neapolitan pizza you can get in Melbourne, and an authentic environment to eat it in.
The service is very typically Italian (slow in a sense, but energetic and friendly). There’s a lot of yelling, singing and banter.
Whether you’re dining for 2, 6 or 20, DOC is always a good call. The wine list is small but well thought out, and there are plenty of starters and small plates to share.
J. P.
Authentic pizza styles with phenomenal mozzarella!
Anything this good will be popular on weekends, so expect a crowd. On busy nights the service will be brisk but friendly.
Excellent choice of wines to match.
J. T.
Be ready to queue up .... better still reserve a table way ahead.
Plenty of tables, but not humongous in size, that's the first thing we like about this place.
Then the personalised service, even only for the evening.
Lastly those super, well made Pizzas, they are the stars of the show.
Not the cheapest Pizza around, but worth the trip. Just get in early or book a table.
J. H. -.
"Where's the best pizza in Melbourne?" I still say DOC. It's truly Italian, with imported ingredients demonstrating their commitment to authenticity. Great pizza relies on high quality ingredients and an amazing base. DOC's pizza's always delivers on quality, with the tastiest San Daniele prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella I've ever had on a pizza. Perfect score.
a.
The food and service was phenomenal. Sim took care of our table and was so lovely, he made the entire evening a night to remember. It was some of the best service I have received at a restaurant.
O. I.
DOC is a beautiful pizza and mozzarella bar where you can order cheeses or pizzas.
I adore the king prawn pizza there it's dangerously delicious 😉
My friends and I we usually go there to do wine tasting, the guys there are very keen to serve and share their opinions on the food and wine pairing. Fast and polite service. Highly recommended
P. S.
Hailed as one of the best pizza bars in Melbourne, D.O.C certainly lives up to its name and reputation. It is just what the d.o.c-tor ordered! The pizza bases, toppings and mozzarella are scrumptiously divine.
The wait may be long at times but the waiting area serves wine, beer and aperol, which changes our perception, and speeds up, time.
E. B.
Delicious pizzas with fresh-tasting ingredients! Base was thin and nice and crisp, not burnt underneath and not soggy. They also didn't overdo it with the toppings. 5/5!
R. L.
Authentic italian ingredients with many having a trademark "DOP/DOC" which apparently means the product / quality are protected at an Italian standard. That's pretty cool. What was even better was the delicious pizzas and antipasti as well as the extensive Italian drinks list (beer, spirits, wine) to complement. The hallmark for us was definitely the quality of cheeses, highly recommended is the buratta from puglia.
L. X.
Very delicious italian pizzas. The service is great too. The best italian pizza I had so far here in Melbourne. The mozzarella is divine.
V. B.
This is a great place if you're in the mood for a classic pizza with simple, fresh ingredients to include the cheese, toppings, sauce and base. Not too expensive for Melbourne prices, and definitely worth bringing family and friends that are visiting town! Keep up the great work DOC!
A. T.
DOC is a nice and authentic Italian pizza restaurant. The restaurant is located in Carlton where it is quite difficult to find parking. Just make sure that if you decide to try this place out, make a booking in advance, since it does get quite packed, and you might be standing in a long queue.
I. F.
Pizza was beautiful! My favourite pizza in Melbourne 🔝🔝🔝
S. &. C. V.
Amazing food and 5 star service!!!!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟
J. O.
Consistently great pizza. The quality has always been outstanding & very fast service. A Melbourne staple pizza joint!
B. A.
The best pizza in Melbourne just wish the Carlton venue had more room as we always find it tricky with a pram. We have tried both the savoury and sweet pizzas and both have been delicious. Service is really good. Pizza DOC and pizza San Daniele are our go-tos, as well as the Rucola salad.
T. T.
Dinner dash - ordered 5 pizzas. Place could get really crowded especially on the weekend. Make sure you come early or make a booking. Overall the vibe was great, customer service was funky and friendly. Pizzas are woodfire based. Dough was cooked well with just some minor chewy texture. Resto comprises of 2 stories establishment. Tiramisu was also good. Pricing is okay.
L. C.
Delicious and the prices are fair for the quality. Dont hesitate in trying the special pizzas they offer everyday apart from the ones in the menu. I loved the special with eggplant.
V. N.
Had really good pizzas there
D. R.
Excellent pizza, mozzarella and prosciutto. Also one of the best tiramisu I've had anywhere.
D. E. H. E.
Absolutely wonderful and authentic italian food experience. We really love this place. The pizzas are fantastic ( we had San Daniele and the truffle one-both really delicious!).We loved the wine and chese as well.Atmosphera fantastica!! The service was fantastic with all the great italian staff.
The whole experience brought back memories of our travels to Italy and I would strongly recomnend to savour this real culinary "food for all senses" place if you are in Carlton.I can't wait to go again.
A.
The best pizza we have ever had.
V. d. G.
Too much stuff on top of the pizza (half melted mozzarella and half fresh buffalo mozzarella). Are you guys giving up the Italian traditions? The Margherita is great though. The indoor space is too small and packed, and this make the ambient too loud for nice conversation. Better sitting outdoor.
N. C.
My very first meal upon entering Australia was here and since then it has become my favorite restaurant ever. The pizza pomodoro is by far my favorite as the caper berries provide an explosion of flavour I had never experienced before. The service has always been top notch though some have been hard to understand at times. Everyone who visits me I bring here as the quality is something I feel I have to share.
G. B.
Just beyond belief! Exquisite pizza, powerful antipasto, innocently tempting desserts. The staff are brilliant, just the right mix of arrogant and humble to be absolutely engaging and extraordinarily entertaining! D.O.C. went the extra mile to find a table for my guests and I - all at short notice - and is mercifully open on a Monday night. Brilliant, just brilliant! Try any pizza with truffle oil, and the tiramisu is certain kind of delicate amazing.
E. O.
Proper Italian people with proper Italian pizza. It's not tourist-centred, and it's one of more authentic places to eat on Lygon street that's doesn't have people at the front door trying to coax you into their restaurant. Highly recommended. Oh and they have a pretty good wine selection.
R. F.
Great pizza and very good drinks list. Lovely outdoor seating for the warmer months. Have been going semi regularly to their pasta restaurant on Lygon st and was excited to try their pizza establishment. It did not disappoint!!
A. L.
Awesome pizza, the base for their pizza was amazing and it didn't get soggy.
The antipasto plate had a variety of olives, cured meat and cheeses. All of which were unique and tasty.
The abruzzese pizza was surprisingly really good. It comes packed with radicchio and porchetta
There's usually a wait but there's a valid reason why.
M. N.
This place was just simple so you could only focus on the food which was amazing! The pizza special was unique and tasty... the vibe was really cool. Definitely will come back
B. C.
The food was really good but the service was not great. The male waiters touched us several times and we're obviously ogling us, it was gross. We don't want to be touched, even on the shoulder/arm, by strange men, and objectified by our waiters when eating at a restaurant. I would think twice about going back which is a shame because the pizza and salad we had was great. The music was also so loud it was difficult to hold a conversation.
S. H.
Delicious Pizza definitely... so thin and fresh...
S. S.
Amazing food, fresh ingredients. The best pizza sauce I've tasted!!! Proper Napolitan pizza! Kosher, sauce is onion and garlic free!
S. T.
Food was yummy and while service was good and friendly, we often felt unattended. We had to walk over to ask someone to take our order and we had to wait before someone walk to our section only to find that they were attending and taking orders other tables first. Was it because we were the bigger group of 6 or because we have kids with us or any other reasons, we're left to wonder. It is almost impossible to have eye contacts if they weren't attending our table (I'm sure because I was on the look out to get someone's attention for a long time and repeatedly). It was on a Friday night at 6 pm. We got there before the restaurant was even half full.
C. M.
My favourite place to eat authentic fresh Italian food- their pizza especially is in my opinion, the best i've had outside of Italy. Always popular, so can get pretty noisy and hectic at times, but the service and quality of food is always spot on.
S. D.
Hands down the best pizza I've had in Australia. Coming from NY, I had been dissapointed with most pizza choices in Australia until I found DOC while on business in Melbourne. Now, whenever I am in Melbourne I make a point to get there. The prices aren't cheap, but not extremely high either - I'd say they're fair for the quality.

Went in expecting a good meal and was completely blown away. Pizza - exceptional; salad, (house) wine - marvellous; gelato, goats cheese dessert - divine. Service was warm and attentive. A fantastic meal, and for the price of a merely good one. Highly recommended.
E. T.
Overpriced for what it is. There are other similar restaurants which offer equally as tasty food (the salsiccia pizza had a soggy base, a tasteless topping and in the end it wasn't edible) at a better price point. The salmon pizza was good the anti pasto was stock standard washed down with 2 pinots 2 beers at almost $150 including a tip - its pretty exxy.
P. S.
Great pizza, one of the best ever. A number of branches in Carlton, this one is less touristy than the ones on Lygon St. Food is quick to be served, and team are really friendly. Worth a visit to the area.
C. Z.
Well balanced flavour and texture. A decent Napoletana style pizza shop.

Authentic Italian pizza restaurant in Melbourne
A. P.
There are plenty of good pizza places around these days... this one is up there. We made and error with the booking and whilst the head waiter couldn't hide his disappointment in true Italian style, he allowed is to get on with the meal, thank you! Pizza sauce superb and dough likewise. The fior d'latte was great, the only improvement would be to thw bresaola not as lean I would have expected. Our waitresses looked after us well on a busy night.

The pizza was the same as in their Mornington joint, the staff were excellent and prompt. It only missed a bit of that vibrance in Mornington.
I came here after 3 years, and now that they have a deli shop just around the corner, and everything else is the same, they absolutely deserve the highest mark 😊

DOC is one of my favourite restaurant in Carlton. The pizza is really good and the staff is really friendly. Overall the menu is not so expensive compared to other italian restaurants. Suggested to book if wanted to eat inside!
S. M.
Very tasty
K. A.
When I told the server that my wife didn't like the calzone his expression dropped and he at once decided to pick the plate away. The behaviour was rash and poor, the staff is inattentive.. They're obviously one of the owners but they seriously need to learn true dedication, compassion of entrepreneurship or they won't stick around long.
Didn't leave a cent as tip.
Excellent pizzas! But why such uncivilised service I wonder?!
C. I.
Doc has some fantastic pizzas - some of the nicest I have had in Melbourne. They do some fantastic cocktails and the staff are quite friendly (which would be difficult given how packed it always is!)
K. P.
Decent pizza and helpful staff. Fast service.v vegetarian options too!
D. C.
First night in Melbourne and decided to dinner here as it was nearby to the hotel. The place was full and we were lucky to appear just when a table got free. Restaurant was full but didn't feel crowded.
We ordered buffalo mozzarella with tomato and pesto. Taste was awesome and remembers to Italy. We are not italian though.
Secondly we shared a st danielle ham pizza which was delicious.
We think we got value for money and would totally rwcommend
K. T.
Pizza was ok, dough was good, bland toppings and pretty sure they forgot to put gorgonzola on the pizza. Also, really annoyed at 2x antipasto platters coming out with packet breadsticks and when asking for bread there is none. What sort of Italian restaurant doesn't have bread to have with antipasto and cold cuts. Probs won't be back.
S. H.
We love SIMONÉ! Thank you so so much for such an amazing night. We felt so loved and taken care of, like a part of the doc familia! Grazie grazie grazie xxx
S. K.
Such a nice place to eat some delicious authentic Italian pizza and the service is great as well. Worth the money and the wait (20 minutes). Would go there again!
D. S.
Pizza was OK, but the attitude of the workers (all of them) was a bit rough.... I m italian and I ve heard a lot of comments between them that were not very nice. Mind your language and be more nice to each other and with the clients.
M. D.
Shared an antipasto plate and and a sopressa pizza at this amazing venue. It was one of the best pizzas that I have ever eaten. Great atmosphere and friendly staff with great service. Finished off the night with a sweet pizza for desert and it was OMG.!!! Highly recommended.
C. H.
Unbelievable mushroom pizza. Tasty and super fairly priced house red (sangiovese merlot). Great service. The only thing keeping this from being a 5 star rating is the fact that the Farro salad was super small considering its price and ingredients (main ingredient being a cheap grain), kinda really rubbish portion size to be honest, also could have used a bit of acid on it (lemon juice. Etc).
T. L.
One of my favourite pizza places in town. Love the service, love the pizza, love the location. Been here plenty of times and they've never let me down and don't think they ever will. They only serve pizzas here but oh do they do it so well. Personal favourite is the porcini pizza just because I'm a sucker for truffle. Besides the pizzas, right across the road is yochi and what better dessert than some good quality frozen yoghurt!
T. U. A.
Can't beat the fresh mozzarella on tap. Finely executed pizzas. Street parking limited so try the nearby Lygon Court Shopping Centre. No changes allowed to menu items could be limiting to those with dietary restrictions.
B. K.
My favourite pizza place! The Mushroom Pizza with Truffle Oil is to die for!! All imported ingredients from Italy makes it a very yummy experience! Can get very busy around peak dinner time!
W. R.
Simply delicious and authentic pizza. Amazing venue and staff.
Great deli every service through MrYum during the pandemic too!!
G. H.
Second time visit and will come back for more!

For me, to eat a Pizza in Australia, it is D.O.C Carlton in Melbourne or nothing!
There are the best Pizzas in the City and in the Country!
Thank you for the amazing quality of your italian products and your outstanding customer service!
R. G.
Great authentic pizza, the best tomato base ever!! Staff were awesome, really knew their food and wine. Priced perfectly as well. Highly recommend this place.
L. F.
Just delicious!! We really enjoyed the pizzas here. Service is also amazing, as it the authentic atmosphere. Don’t even think about trying the tourist traps on Lygon street, DOC is where it’s at!
F. M.

Good pizza, though it didn't blow my socks off as many said it would.
Nice place, convenient location and super friendly staff, they're all there. The pizzas, on the other hand, are just... fine.
The one thing I would recommend from the menu is the mozzarella di bufala. Other than that, I don't remember much else from DOC and that is, more often than not, not a good sign.
C. O.
So yummy. Who knew that blue cheese and sultanas on a pizza could be so delicious!
It's a great place to catch up with friends and graze over some antipasto and pizza with a perfect glass of red.
J. D.
The Italian style thin crust pizzas were delicious. Would definitely come back again for another meal here. The prices were reasonable and the venue was packed while we were there late in the evening.
t. b.
Great location for groups to share cozy but family. Pizzas all very fresh and attentive staff. Don't let the crowded rooms put you off. Worth the wait.
A. S.
Holy Moly! This pizza was to die for, seriously so so so good. Absolutely can't wait to come back and have more of this pizza. Worth checking out if you're in the mood for truly authentic wood fired pizza, like you get in Italy!
C. A.
This is Melbourne's benchmark pizza restaurant. Authenticity Italian right down to the wait staff. Not very expensive and utterly amazing. Do yourself a favour and try it tonight. Quite a small venue and always packed, so book ahead to avoid disappointment.
L. M.
I ordered the 'Bruschetta Avocado' - which for anyone that reads the word 'Bruschetta' will generally assume it involves tomatoes and other ingredients, and upon receiving my order it was just.... avocado? On toast? With cheese?
No tomato? Or balsamic? Why even include the word bruschetta? It's just avocado toast.
I have a good idea, maybe for your pizzas you could just sell cheese on toast eh?
Anyways, the avocado on toast* was not so bad.
C. R.
Have not been there in years because of living overseas, but I remembered it. As good as ever. Not those soggy Neapolitan pizzas common in Australia. Thin crust, crispy edges and exotic toppings. The porcini with truffle oil was fabulous. The antipasti is a good cross section of salumi and giardinera. Great coffee, Lavazza of course.
A. B.
DOC hosted us last night for a celebration dinner for 8 of us for our engagement. Even though they were fully booked, they made it work for space for 8 of us, and helped out all the way. Obviously the pizza was excellent, and the service was friendly and outstanding all night. They even came out and gave us Lemoncello to celebrate on the house. Wonderful staff, ambience, location, food, everything. Grazie mille!!
M. E.
I have to do a big shout out for DOC! They took a table of 11 people with about half an hour notice for me a few weeks ago and the food and service was fantastic! Excellent starters, pizzas and desserts. Would definitely recommend this place and I look forward to going to their other restaurants!
F. L.
Best woodfired pizza Melbourne, almost... It lacks a bit of flavour so had to add some salt and chilli. Chewy and tasty crust with a nice tomato sauce. Would I go back? Sure , I was just expecting a little bit extra...
S. B. D.
Great pizza, cheese platter and salads. Very busy and some tables a little tight and pokey.
E. B.
Gluten Free pizza is so small compared to other pizzas and you pay extra money for it, how does that make ANY sense???? To me it's ridiculous!! Making money over people's food intolerances, awful!!!
T. O.
Some of the best pizza in town. Service and location aren't perfection but I'll be returning often no issues. Love this place.
P. J.
One of the best pizzas I have had! The dough is so fresh and the staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. Amazing little pizzeria in Carlton.
A. S.
The best pizza I have ever had!
A. M.
What a treat! I am cursing myself that we haven't visited D.O.C earlier. Sure it gets busy but that's because the pizza is amazing, light, fresh and tasty. Love the selections of mozzarella and the buzzy atmosphere.
We went back the following night for dessert. We had the Nutella calzone. To. Die. For.
We've found our new favourite pizzeria!
S. D.
Make the effort to come here if you're in the Carlton area. It was pretty busy when we stopped by, but the host saw us to their outside waiting area which is stocked with a bar. They serve Italian craft beers and their Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Spada wine was delicious. We ordered the antipasto platter (highly recommend) and a pizza which was plenty of food for the two of us. The staff was all friendly and upbeat and we would definitely return. Felt like we were dining in Italy!
A. C.
We had to wait for 45 minutes to get our food but so worth the wait. It is best pizza in Melbourne. Base just melts in your mouth.
A. R.
Pizza is awesome! For sure you will taste one of the best! It is a little bit noisy but it goes with the atmosphere!
You can also take away if you want peace!
A. S. (.
I really love cheese so when I saw on the menu a cheese degustation platter, i knew I must order it.
Thankfully I was not disappointed.
There were three types of cheese, Australian fior de latte, smoked mozzarella, and Buffalo mozzarella. All but the smoked mozzarella were light and soft, and the smoked mozzarella was really interesting!
Overall, it was a lovely platter.
The special of the day was a really nice pizza too, absolutely full of flavor.
I would definitely come back again.
M. B.
Amazing pizza
It was like I was back in Italy
Only problem is .... It's too good!
Staff are very friendly too
P. B.
Fantastic pizzas with a wide variety of drinks. The staff are quite familiar with the Italian menu and provide good services.
T. C.
By far the best pizza I have ever eaten. Simple yet full flavour! I give 4 stars because they are ridiculously overpriced.
D. L.
Unbelievably tastie & what I would imagine is authentic Italian pizza, and two enthusiastic waitresses who were very accommodating. I would highly recommend this as a go to place for visitors & locals
L. V.
The pizza is really good but the guy FOH who is in the door is very rude the way he spoke to me was rude and sarcastic.
T. B.
Best Pizzas and worth the trip up experience
Service and caring staff a pleasure to keep coming back to
C. P.
Amazing pizza!! Chewy crunchy dough, perfectly sweet San Marzano tomatoes, great mozzarella and San Danielle prosciutto... What else can one want?!
H. H.
Pizza was outstanding. Different ones I tried were very delicious and to me they seemed authentic Italian, however some staff were faking Italian behavior which was unnecessary and a bit unpleasant.
No changes to the menu :(
A. H.
Food and service were absolutely outstanding. Mozzarella plate, Pizza, Craft Italian Beer, and Italian wine. What more could you ask for. Staff definitely know their product, where it comes from, and are proud of it. Highly recommended!
G. L.
Arriving just before lunch we were able to get a table quickly. The service is friendly and prompt. We get a table at the back of the restaurant and start looking over the placemat-cum-menu.
Between 4 of us, we decide on 4 pizzas to share. The pizzas are delivered quickly and we dig in before being able to take the obligatory instafood photo. The base is soft, and well seasoned. So well in fact, that the crust is delicious on its own.
The spicy salami is a stand out favourite amongst the four we ordered. The others being the fig and gorgonzola special, Italian sausage and anchovy and caperberry.
For dessert we share a tiramisu. The ratios let this one down; as nice as the cream is, there's just too much of it compared to the coffee soaked biscuits. Once you get find them, the flavour is delicious..
A. T.
Friday night pizzas here every fortnight- the best pizza in Carlton isn’t necessarily on Lygon St. Fantastic quality pizza and always busy since it opened around 10 years ago (this is the original Vue de monde location too). I recommend the D.O.C, Sopressa and Neopolitana pizzas 👍🏻
B. H.
I love the pizzas here. So delicious.
It use be much better a couple of years back, but no idea what happened - still solid.
M. L.
The selection of pasta just wasn't there for us. The place was busy and they accommodated us pretty quickly but when it came to ordering i just didn't know what to get... None of the pasta's looked any good. When the pasta did come it was cooked well but the flavors weren't up my ally.
V. S.
Great menu and offerings. Food is delicious. Service can be questionable at times. But, in fairness, it is very busy and they are doing their best in a crowded space. Definitely recommend
R. P.
Lovely pizza - fresh, balanced, classic combinations, executed with style and restraint. Great service too, despite the fact we had four small kids on our table of 11!
M. G.
I had the Lasagna it was Excellent. I was there at lunch. I also had the Prosciutto and bread. it was crowded. I don't think I have had better. The service was good. Recommended.
d. g.
Oh mio DIO - Oh my God , What a pizza!
These guys are rock stars on the pizza game. I had a sensational Napoletana pizza and my wife had a King prawn pizza , just superb, the tomato sauce, dough, etc. Also the people there, are all real italians, funny but very professional in particularly we have been served by Davide that is a superstar . WELL DONE .... PLEASE KEEP DOC AS IT IS - THAT IS PERFECT!
L. H.
Went with high expectations as alot of people told me itt was great. I'd say the pizza was very average, nothing special at all. Nothing tasted bad, just very boring flavour
J. S.
Best pizza ever. We ordered a king prawn pizza and it was one of the most delicious pizzas we both thought we’ve had. Highly recommend!
H. D.
Absolutley delicious pizza and antipasti board along with great atmosphere and service in this place! Loved it and definetly will come back
P. D.
The San Daniele is by far the best pizza on the menu! Delicious food. It's always very loud inside, which is fine for us, just be aware.
M. V.
My favourite pizza, service is fact. Only put off was being rushed out. Which was a shame because coffee and desert would have been great. I like to relax when I ear and dine out.
D. D.
D.O.C makes the best pizza in Melbourne. The quality and taste is nothing short of pizza you will eat in Italy. Their strawberry and white chocolate dessert pizza is insanity.
L.
The pizza is amazing!! The crust is thin but crispy and tasty! One of the best pizzas I have had! Also friendly staff too :)
P. H.
The Cheese board was amazing as well as the lasagne. Our waiter was 10/10
H. J.
Good place for a very good pizza. The best is a simple margarita pizza. Very busy and incredible noisy inside, but wonderful and relaxing outside.
p. m.
simply its the best and original pizza in Melbourne. if you want budget try dominos...
yumm
their anti pasta is the best too
actually dont go as then ill have to wait longer
F. S.
FOR Serious Pizza People this is a great place. I travel a lot and am fully aware of food as Im a master of Italian BASIC Foods. See Fulvio's review I would agree with him 100%. The only thing I may add is that the wait staff are very Italian and can be tempremental but they can also be truly funny and welcoming. One of my TOP 5 Pizza places in Melbourne. Their Electric oven does a good job but..GET the wood fired oven guys or throw some year old oak in there.
For other Pizza like this also try 'Pizza e Birra' in St.Kilda and 'Pizza e Fichi' in Kew.
For a more basterdised Pizza Try Pizza Religion in Hawthorn. Italian Food IS BEST!
C. S.
best prosciutto pizza Ive ever had in my life, me and my girlfriend have been back here 5 times in the past month
A. H.
Friendly service and great fresh pizza. Mushroom truffle pizza and calzone very nice. A little pricey but not over the top. Somewhere to go because you want to, not because it happens to be there.
D. H.
One of the best pizzas I have had. Had the special, mushroom with truffle, wow.
Quick service and friendly staff.
K. S.
great traditional pizza. bit noisy but great atmosphere. quite often difficult to get a table. love the way they use buffalo mozzerella.
D. A.
Just came back to Carlton last night after a few years as we usually go to Mornington - Its so good to see that the consistency of their great pizza is being upheld , had a wonderful meal and excellent service !!
L. A.
Reminiscing about how great the food was here when i visited late last year. Great food, great staff, BEST pizza ive had in my WHOLE MF life and it was wild mushroom.. standing ovation for this place honestly
L. W.
Incredible food with mouth-watering ingredients, delicious wine, prompt service, friendly staff. What more could you ask for..? Can't wait to go back!
R. P.
Great pizza made using extremely high quality ingredients. A little pricey but worth it for a treat
S. K.
I think they serve the best pizza and the service is quick. My overall experience was amazing.
