Lovely experience at Epocha, absolutely relaxing atmosphere with no rush at any point with friendly and accommodating service team. Located next it Carlton Gardens with views of the trees. The 3 course menu, was started with a delicious amuse bouche, my partner is vegetarian and that was catered for without compromise. It was so reassuring being able to just sit and wait for the amazing food to appear without scouring a menu for the right dish. Every dish was perfect, and was suitably filled by each course. Highly recommend for a special night out with your partner or close friends.

Easily one of the best dining experiences I've ever had!! The ambience, the service, the food, the wine...everything was super perfect. I was here on a date and Epocha did not disappoint me at all. All of the dishes were well-presented and appetizing. The wagyu steak was ridiculously tender, whereas the pasta was simply out of this world. The restaurant only serves set menu at $80 pp. I ended up paying $260 for two. But I guarantee, it was all worth it!

Booked for Valentine’s Day. Due to sudden lock down we opted to receive the menu at home. It was incredibly generous of the restaurant to offer a bottle of wine for those of us who opted for preparing the food at home. The restaurant’s “hope” and hospitality is impeccable and we felt well cared for despite being able to dine in this Valentine’s Day. The restaurant catered wonderfully for gluten free and provided all the meal options ready to easily cook. The service was delightful and the staff easy to chat to and genuinely very friendly. The food was absolutely delicious (we did our best to prepare it). Our favourite was the special white chocolate dessert. A lovely selection of local foods, fresh textures, salty, sweet and creamy. We will definitely be back in person!

Absolutely fantastic experience - great food, excellent service and a wonderful, lush, old-style setting with a modern twist. The high-ceilings, dark woods, large staircase and modern light fixtures enhance the overall feel of the place which harks back to a colonial past. The food is the central player in a symphony of delights. The wine list is solid, without being overwhelming and the staff are knowledgeable about what goes well, with what dish. There's reasonable parking available although a taxi or Uber would be recommended, as are elastic-sided pants so you can really overindulge. Our hats off to Angie and the team who gave us such a good night.

Really enjoyed our outdoor dining experience with Epocha tonight - so glad they’re back! We’ve missed the many exciting dining experiences we’ve had with them over the years. the summer menu is a winner! Plenty of Cocktail options to start with - Lots of entrees and tasting plates to choose from - the charcuterie platter was delicious! or you could head straight to the main event - perfectly moist Aylesbury duck, glazed beef ribs, a deliciously fresh garden salad (grown on-site!) & yummy golden duck-fat roast potatoes.as a side. Yum!!! seafood fans are spoilt for choice - stuffed baby calamari, Oysters, scallops, squid-ink linguini … The accompanying wine list is extensive - we’re constantly discovering our “new faves” at Epocha - the staff recommendations are always spot-on - thank you again Epocha - we love you!!! This is my absolute favorite restaurant in Melbourne. Excellent food. Menu is extensive and seasonal to a particularly high standard. Definitely fine dining. Servers are also great and always efficient. Love this place and will continue to visit.

Awesome setting with fantastic service. The food was full of flavour and portion size was very generous, you will definitely leave feeling full and satisfied. Little tip is to do 2 X 3 courses and share, that way you will get to taste a lot of the menu and enjoy good sized servings. The wine list was spot on and I absolutely recommend the Heathcote Shiraz, it's a 2005 and has flavour. Highly recommended, it feels like you're a guest in a home which is a great feeling.

I was excited to try Epocha but was left a little disappointed. The portions were small and the menu was too cold for winter (only 1/5 warm dishes). We did the wine pairing and that was probably the best part, lots of different and interesting wines from all around Europe. I would go back again but only if the menu options sound more appealing next time.

EXCELLENT SERVICE AND A GREAT MENU Epocha is a high end restaurant just north of the city centre in Rathdowne St Carlton, which makes parking relatively easy. The building is an old terrace that has been tastefully reconfigured into a restaurant. The interior is stylish and subdued and has excellent noise management (right down to felt underlay under the dining tables). It's a modern European cuisine with a choice of either the "surrender" degustation (with or without accompanying wines) or the more restrained "sustain" which is a more a la carte operation. We went with the sustain and left the restaurant feeling very full and satisfied! Service was great from the very start and our waiter was first class. With the sustain menu you choose an item from each of entree, main and desert, so the three of us shared all the dishes and were able to sample quite a lot of the menu items. Every dish was deserving of 5 stars - both on presentation and taste. The meal came to $350 (inclusive of drinks and an extra dish of 12 oysters) which was quite reasonable given the quality. People with mobility issues will have two challenges - a small sets of external steps at the entry and a long staircase up to the toilets on the first floor. A great place to go for a romantic dinner, business meal or even dining alone.

From the moment we entered the restaurant we were impressed. The host obviously noted my name on my digital Covid certificate and commented that the booking was in that name . Went to Epocha for New Years Eve. We started with their house baked bread which is amazingly light and fluffy. We had amazingly fresh tuna with mozzarella and basil pesto - the flavours were so fresh and light, it’s such a great starter. Main course was a veal steak that was probably slightly too cooked for my liking (medium and I like medium rare), but nonetheless quite delish. Accompanying it was a salad with maple. Last course was their take on a tiramisu, which was more like jellyish. I like it but I think I like normal tiramisu better. The service here is just amazing and they even accommodated my mother in laws fairly complex dietary requirements. The price for a three course dinner was slightly exxy but I suppose for NYE that’s what you get.

I had a work function at Epocha recently and it was excellent! The venue is just gorgeous - our private room upstairs was warm, intimate and inviting. The food was outstanding and the chefs were brilliant at catering for the dietary requirements within our group. The service couldn't be faulted, our waiter Antonio was professional and personable and attended to everyone's needs very effortlessly. Epocha is obviously extremely experienced at holding functions and no stone was left unturned. I cannot speak highly enough of my experience, it was pleasant and stress-free from start to finish. Great for dates, you can go for a walk in the gardens before or after dinner, and atmosphere is conducive to conversation. It is Fine dining so pricey but guaranteed to impress. I have heard great things about Epocha and can now personally confirm that the positive reviews are all valid. There was a set menu of either 3 or 4 courses (optional 'middle course') and we opted for four and asked the staff to pair matching wines for each course. All of the food was divine. Personal favourites for me were the tuna starter, goats cheese gnocchi mid course, duck main and cheesecake dessert. My partner thoroughly enjoyed the tuna and steak tartare starters. The wine was explained prior to pouring and matched each dish delightfully. Great experience overall with a lovely atmosphere and knowledgeable, professional yet friendly staff.

Booked online, very easily, provided allergies, all respected. Very friendly staff, the wine list was very good. The food was well cooked, first dishes with mashed salmon was very tasty, homemade pasta, ravioli type, sauce good. Fits were not ready yet, the prosciutto was good. Lamb, onions and potatoes were very good. Bravo chef! Salad had something very distinctive in it, ruining the freshness, giving a very vinegry sour taste. The dessert was too much. Too many tastes for no reason. Better simplify it guys. The mint leaves are not edible. The pieces of fruit were not ready yet. Soaked into some juice, not blended. The cake was moist and matched the tiramisu cream, the berries could be avoided as well. Maybe served with a cherry drink aside. I would go again, as the environment is very fresh.

🌱 Dairy Milk Alternatives Available -- -- -- Epocha has been my go to cafe during the lockdown. Something about grabbing a coffee and going for a walk in Carlton Gardens really brightens your mood. The service is always fantastic, they're always up for a little chat about what's going on. The range of foods they have in store looks fantastic. Get your standard roast lamb and roast vegies plus a beer and pretend that you don't need to travel back to hamstead Heath for another calendar year.
