Comments of Flora Indian Restaurant
J. S.
We ordered the Samosa for takeaway, which comes with chutney and sauces.
It was authentic, big in size, and had the right amount of spices. Not the chilli kind.
Unfortunately, the place is so hidden behind the constructions opposite Flinders Station. Still, they are definitely worth visiting for authentic Indian food & snacks. It's cheap, and they make fresh Chai.
It's our favourite spot for Indian food in the city.

My favourite Indian restaurant in Melbourne. Fresh, delicious naan, fast efficient and friendly customer service. BIG serve (for a big guy) and amazing price. Recommended to anyone in the CBD! A+++
D. G.
Best chole bhature I ever tried in Melbourne, it was authentic and delicious, just like we get it in India. Thank you flora Team for the birthday wishes and a yumilicious rasmalia. I loved it❤
J. B.
Pretty standard place to have some Indian food. Was personally surprised to see the Beef dish. All in all it was good and would go again if I get the chance.
R. I.
Good Indian food with friendly team. Clean restaurant and added extra service of Asian spices and groceries available under the same roof. I hope they will consider to revise their food prices as the price we pay is not good for the quantity they serve. That's the only disadvantage and I wish to highlight on this. Take a way too is not satisfied as the combo meal all vegetables and main meat is packed all in one container. They can improve on this as they charges are not reasonable comparing to the packing and quantity of the food served for take away. This needs to be considered to keep it a successful business in future. Hope they will take it as a positive review and improve

Lovely Indian restaurant. Staff are very friendly. Food is great. Big selection to choose from. Food is not overly spicy, but definitely not bland. Feels like a good balance of heat. Your own personal great tolerance will affect your opinions when you try their food. I don't like overly spicy (hot) food. I've enjoyed their Butter Cream Chicken, their Lamb Vindaloo, and the Kashmiri Naan was great.

Smashing Indian! This place is super popular with student, the office crowd and tourists. It’s a very clean place and fast paced order, sit, service style. Most meals are a combo of some sort and are very reasonably priced for the quality and size. Everything I’ve ordered here has been delicious and never too spicy (although the vindaloo came close).
Samosa flavor and size is a hit - well worth $3.00.
Try it, you’ll be hooked.

This is an Indian quisine restaurent . Tastes are authentic . had a buffet dinner in a group . Buffet was managed very well , which completely avoided congestion and clutter . The Indian bread was served at table , very fresh and hot and hence quite crisp .
The staff is mostly South Asian . The owner is Indian . So consistency in food taste can be expected always . The owner personally attends the service . It ensures a better feel of hospitality . Presence of mixed crowd confirms its acceptance and popularity . Recommended for genuine Indian food in Melbourne .

One of the only two places you can get a masala dosa in the city. This place is not a place to come eat, but an institution!
M. N. u. h. B.
Coming from Pakistan (sub-continent) taste wise it's ok but not great.
Service was quick and quantity was also ok.
Ordered a small combo deal with rice.
Ambience was ok not great
A. A. I.
Went here after walking around the city and craving for Indian food. The portion is really, really big. Ordered the biryani rice combo meal and it was delicious.

Love to stop at this place for lunch after a day in the CBD. Great tasting authentic Indian food at a great price. You can tell by the number of Indian nationals that choose to eat here that they must be doing something right. They also now sell a small selection of Indian groceries at the rear of the restaurant. Do your taste buds a favour and visit here soon!
D. E.
Tried the biryani , and it was very filling and tasty. Boneless chicken with the rice. Comes with raita (youghurt chutney) and a side salad.
Worth the money. $11.50.
Staff were very friendly.
K. Q.
THEYRE STILL OPEN EVERYONE (street looks under renovations)
I Love this place. Incredible dosa, nice veggie curries (no vegan options i can see however) but always a nice warm vibe, great to enjoy dosas and deep chats.
T. F.
Same quality as 5 years ago.
R. W.
The food was great.Friendly staff.Ordered samosa, keera vada and combo meals for takeaway. It was very crowded and busy though. may be because it's a Saturday.
m. b.
Yesterday I went there in the afternoon,I ordered Alok paratha and mix paratha, Mango lassi, pickle butter.paratha was good and one is enough for one person.they gave raita complimentary which was also good.mango lassi was extremely sweet.staff was very good too.overall nice place.
R. M.
It's an order over the counter, collect when ready format. The seating and atmosphere is neat and tidy, albeit rudimentary and a little cold and sterile. It's not somewhere you would expect to sit for an hour or more, enjoying a quiet conversation over a few traditional Indian dishes. But the food remains the main draw card, which is delicious and wonderfully Indian.
S. B.
Amazing taste of South Indian food. Especially Sambhar is really yummy.
Affordable place.
M. M. U. R.
Tasty food within reasonable price and excellent customer experience. Visiting since 2011.... experience is consistent.
E.
It was a good experience. The taste was decent the place was clean.
You get to choose and mix different curry and side dishes.
It’s right across from Flinders stations, so it is easy to get to as well.
C. H.
Hidden gem near De Greaves lane. The paper masala dosa is a huge meal for $14.50 and tastes great!
H. M.
Authentic Indian food. You can tell from the majority Indian customers dining there. Loved the mango lassi & samosas & meat curries.
P. R.
Pretty ok place for a quick bite. Gotta be mindful about what you order.
Masala dosa, Samosa and Aloo Parantha will have the same potato filling, which is quite bland.
For a dosa it works well as you have sambhar and chutney, But in aloo parantha its a disaster.
Service is ok for a qsr so don’t expect to be treated as a as a restaurant it’s a qsr.
D. S.
Really great Indian food - freaking delicious curries with many vegan options and the staff are so nice!! And on top of that, it's extremely affordable.
G. K.
One of the best pranthas taste is just amazing highly recommend gobhi prantha it comes with butter pickles and curd 😍😍
K. Y.
Cheap indian food joint but sometimes the wait is ridiculous.. I waited 13 mins for jelebis! which were ready to serve over the counter! Its is reasonably priced and have varied options for both vegs and non vegs. very reasonably priced 👌 7/10
N. P.
Perfect taste for price. This place is somewhat hidden due ti construction going on nearby but is really worth the price. Must try for light indian snack items
C. K.
Loved the food at Flora. An authentic Indian restaurant. The taste of the food was amazing. Its like a home away from home. The Mini meals and the large meals are pretty awesome and appealing. The location is also awesome. Would definitely recommend.
D. N.
Good family restaurant to be at. Just that their lassi is too sweet, lots of additive sugar. Their nan is very nice but not a big fan of their dosa.
N. G.
Reasonably priced and food is delicious. Will surely visit again.
r. m.
Inexpensive Indian food. Multiple dishes available for selection. Staff are friendly and efficient. Enough tables available for groups.
a. m.
The channa chat was so good! So neatly packed. It tasted delicious. Absolutely worth for the price and a large serve. Made my Friday evening:)
R. X.
A solid budget Indian dining restaurant. It could be a little confusing to order for the first time.
The way it goes is to choose what meal you would like and pay to get a buzzer. Then find a seat and wait. Once your buzzer alerts you, go up to the counter to choose your curries and then finish your order.
The taste is solid. Would recommend to anyone.
S.
I have been living overseas for almost 6 years and this was my first trip to Australia. I am vegetarian and not foody but I know how a good North Indian food taste like. Landed in Sydney and tasted food there first. Got dissapointed there as usual. It's really hard to find good authentic North Indian food overseas.
Visited Melbourne and went to Flora. I was starving. Ordered mini thali ( Daal, Palak Saag, Naan and plain tea)
I was totally stunned.
Never had such amazing food outside India or outside home. Everything was close to perfect. I still remember the taste of Saag.
Overall restaurant was really good. People were only eating like everyone had the same feeling what I had about the food.
And wanted to give two more stars for the location of this restaurant but 5 is the limit. Sorry.
Thank you Flora and keep it up.
Z. S.
In no way a fancy venue, but offers extraordinarily tasty curries at a reasonable price. The butter chicken is the best meat curry on the menu. I strongly recommend this restaurant.
T.
Pretty good Indian place near Flinders Street. At the moment due to construction of the tunnel, it's hidden behind hoarding and could be hard to find.
Good price and good food.
a. n.
Love the visits here, value for money. Always great service and wonderful option to finish the meal with a quick grocery shopping there too.. 👌👌
J. R.
The best Masala Dosa around, and the Samosa's are absolutely fantastic.
G. Q.
First time to eat authentic indian food served by indian people :3 it was really good but too spicy for me. But still very good!
D. M.
Great to see this place thriving again after the pandemic. Great food but they are currently closing at 8 so don't be late.
A. K.
Loved it. The large meal was sumptuous, serve hot and fresh. The chicken served along woth meal was absolutely fantastic - and I mean it.
Took a plate of biryani along with the meal - wasn't as good as others that I have had elsewhere, but was fairly okay. The sweets were too good.
Overall, a good taste of Indian delicacies on offer.
Recommended if in Melbourne CBD.
J. F. M. J.
Good southern India n food. Reasonable price
A. S.
I loved the unique style of customer service. They gave us one device which vibrates after the food is ready. Its a good idea to reduce the wait in busy time. Samosa chat was best. Thanks to every staffs.
S. S.
Nice Indian food, reasonable rates, combo options
M.
Cheap and delicious indian food in the heart of Melbourne
We had the small thali with cabbage/peas curry, dal and channa masala. The cabbage was truly delicious and the dal was good too. The channa had good flavours but needed to be cooked slightly more.
I also had the aloo paratha. The serving was very large given the price of $5.5. I was happy with it but would prefer a little bit more spice next time.
T. M.
Nice curry. Spacious place. Friendly price.
P. B.
Best food pure Taste of indian street food had the chat papdi and samosa tiki would highly recommend for mouth watering food
K. m.
Went to Flora restaurant to eat
liked very much their traditional sweets like Rasamalai-it was very
authentic and yummy very tasty too. Keep up the good work Flora!!
On the other hand went to Toilet , oh my god very, very dirty and smelly
no proper sanitation, what? the hotel management doesn't even seems to bother, the toilet says Gentlemen but real filthy toilet and bowls.
The other door says Ladies, but one has to bypass Gentlemen to reach other side, what a confusion ?
Where is the standard for O,H & S , it seems they neglect totally.
What is the purpose of maintaining high quality food standards , managers should inspect for hotel cleanliness.
Pls let some one take care to see whats going on for customers , tnx.
D. D.
Just been to this place and had a Masala Dosa as well as Onion Masala Dosa.
The first Masala Dosa I had was undercooked on the inside and both the Dosas lacked in the taginess. Generally, Dosa batter is fermented for at least 24 hours and this process gives the taginess to the Dosa. I believe this is the most important attribute for a dosa to be tasty. Upon requesting the staff, I received a well cooked dosa for the second time.
Overall, I believe quantity given was good, fair price, great customer service, and a clean as well as a decent place.
H. K.
Tastewise good, but quantity we felt like a bit less . Small meal is way too small 😂.
A. P.
Love this restaurants. Best Indian place in the city by far. It’s a (not so little) hole in the wall. Best option is large Tali #1: 2 non-veg, 1 veg and rice woth papad.
They’re constantly changing up the curry options so don’t get to attached to anyone meal, but everything tats yes delicious.
Their curries are GF and know how to take care of you.
They’ve recently replaced some seating areas with a mini shop where they sell all your Indian cuisine needs: masala packs, rice and indont know what else but it’s awesome. Not as great as the curry corner by the market, but still good for the CBD.
D. D.
Loved the Tandoori chicken, and Samosa Chat. I often buy Sweets from here ( try out the Dhoda and Kaju Katli). First time since in Aus, I had great Dhoda sweets reminding me of India.
B. T.
If this place ever closes then I will lose a piece of my heart. Everything on the menu is great but I particularly love their huge biryanis @ $12.
G. M.
Nice portion...good seating area...clean facilities
N. H.
Beautiful hospitality and delicious food! Saag that melts in your mouth. The dosas are amazing and chicken tikka is our favourite. Love coming here!
S. G.
Best chole bhature and other food is also mouth watering. Kudos to chef and kitchen team 👍 They serve only on weekends, hoping in future they serve whole week 😅😁😉
R. M.
Delicious food, cheap prices and very fast/friendly service
D. B.
What a fantastic Indian restaurant. Real Indian food at amazing prices. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area. Great tasting curries, naan and appetizers. Also great lassi!
M. A.
I wish I could leave a bad review to keep this restaurant from becoming overcrowded. My conscience will not allow me to say anything other than I had a lovely dinner with great food. This place is relatively newly opened. I don't know if they are seeking a liquor license, but they were very accommodating about us bringing our own bottle of wine.
Food was very tasty and service was friendly. We live in the neighborhood so I look forward to going to this place many more times in the future.
B. A.
A real delight. All dishes were beautifully cooked and the Combination Meals are great value.
Access along the footpath is obscured while Metro Tunnel works are in progress.
The Chicken Chennai is particularly good, when available.
K. C. S.
I ordered masala thosai which was yummy. Unfortunately, it wasn't served with red chutney (tomato chutney) which made the meal seem incomplete. It would have been 5stars otherwise.
A. S.
Great and tasty indian food, love it
S. K.
Really very good taste and authentic south Indian food..
C. F.
The food is incredible, staff are friendly, prices are so good for the amount of good you get! We went to this restaurant 2 nights in a row, would highly recommend!
G. B.
Very tasty egg dosa, idly, chicken briyani, dal makhani and kheer. The restaurant may seem a bit old but the food tastes really good. Must try!
p. s.
Great food, great service, great staff, great value. Dealing with Tandoori Flames was easy, they guided me from booking the venue to deciding the menu, open to changes to menus, it could not have been easier than that. On the day of the birthday celebration it was great knowing that I didn't have to worry about people getting fed. All my guests told me how wonderful the food and service was, specially received excellent feedback from people who asked me to book another caterer. Recommend them highly for any event
s. k.
Really nice flavours..and easy access.
Different flavoured foods. During construction access wasn’t great.
M. A.
Located just beside to Flinders St railway station. Prices also quite good.
P. E.
Good food. Friendly owner Mr. Pankaj. Took great care of my group with their odd dietary requirements. Big place. Totally Indian. Take away or sit-in available. Should clear toilets more often. Situated opposite Flinders station gives it the biggest advantage.
A.
Average food, the Dahl tastes burnt. But the service are nice 👍🏼
P. P.
Always have amazing food and service! Would highly recommend for authentic tasty Indian food
M.
Price is little bit high. I have tried a large combo meal which was great but it provides only limited. However food delivery is very fast and my friend kelvin really like the chapati which he tried first time ever.
I. P.
Good, tasty food at a reasonable price and conveniently located near the Flinders Street station There can typically be a bit of a wait but not too bad. The range of food is pretty good and they serve drinks as well.
From a service side of things, the staff attentive and courteous. The premises is clean and tidy.
Overall, a good place to dine or have a chat over a cup of spicy tea.
V. K.
Very tasty food. We have been here quite a lot of time and they've always been good with food and service
k. j.
It's the most convenient place for Indian food. Note not the best Indian food in Melbourne but perfect for a quick bite. The service is average but efficient.
Located next to the train station and between the two most famous street in the city it's great for students or if your looking for something easy before you head home after work. Usually busy after 5 but there's always place to sit as its surprisingly quite big inside.
It's quite affordable and great value for money.
p. g.
This place is a bit of a hit or miss. Some of the food they serve here is terrible, while some is really good. I particularly like the fish madras, especially when it's freshly cooked. I really like that most of the food served here is spicy too. (keeping it authentic).
Word of caution, try to avoid at peak lunch hour as the queues get crazy and customer service gets really bad.
R. C.
Food was amazing. The staff are lovely, and the curries are fantastic. The interior gives it a great “Indian” feeling. I was amazed to see even white people come in, as I thought the food was spicy enough. Great marks. However, when I went to the toilet, I had the horrid look at unflushed poo. I had to go to another toilet, but that wasn’t even an upgrade. Sanitation = poor
v. T.
I always take my time writing reviews for any business, and avoid writing anything on the basis of one interaction only with the business as everywhere there can be on off day where service may not be up to the mark. Now coming back to Flora, after being to this place few times I will definitely rate it 5 star. Considering the prices in Melbourne, I will say this place is very reasonable in terms of price and food quality and taste is much better. Their thali menu changes every day, hence there may be days when you may find that food is not that good in taste but 9 out of 10 times I have experienced excellent food quality and taste in a reasonable price. I will request other people as well, before leaving any negative or positive feedback specially for small business, try them few times and then pass your opinion on social media. And no I have no affiliation with this restaurant, I have passed my opinion on the basis of my frequent visits.
J. N.
Quick service, low price, quiet, attractive meal package options. Tasty but not outstanding. Food served on metal trays reminded me of old war movies and scout camps. Many Indian folks eating here, which is generally a good sign that the food is good.
M. M.
Good place for indian food.
N. M.
Nice food. I ordered paneer masala and it was really nice
a. k.
1. Some food are good. Goat curry has improved a lot. Last week Goat Curry was very good. But I am afraid they can cook same every time. Sometimes it's not good.
Takeaway Chicken Biryani was very less in Quantity. Shame!
2. Customer service of few Girls are very Rude type and unprofessional. They lack basic manners and curtsy. Please Improve, it's not Punjab!!!!
3. Over all - Not bad. But lot need to be improved.
They really need to train their staff.
S.
One of the best Indian restaurants in the city. Rice and curry combo was my pick on another day and it was not bad. Lamb vindaloo was so yummy..Since price list is displayed, you won't get shocked, otherwise I bet, you will!
K. G.
We were a bit overwhelmed when we first walked in because we arrived at lunchtime during the work week. I'd advise trying to go at a calmer time. If you go at peak time, it might help to just step back and take it in for a minute. We really enjoyed the food. The portions were large enough to share. Two large combos was more than enough for a family of three. We'll definitely go back.
R. M.
Great tasting food at good prices. Indian beer too!
R. S.
I loved the pumpkin sabzi.
A. R. A.
Awesome food and great service. Love the staff, greeted so good , would come back here and enjoy more meals.
R. M.
Went there today after a long time... And was pleasantly surprised! Great food... Great customer service... All the necessary covid precautions... Kid friendly too... Recommended!
W. L.
Always quite service with yummy food
G. K.
This place is very busy. Indians go there, heaps of them. That says the food is good, and it was. Quick service. Nice range. Great naan bread. Good food. Warm - it was freezing outside, lots of activity. Definitely going there again.
P. J.
One of the oldest Indian restaurants in town. No table service as such, however, the service is quick and simple. Food is simple and consistent, reasonably priced and a little bit like food court but high in quality and taste for that matter. Some yummy and fresh Indian sweets - such as, Gulab Jamun, Ras malai, and even Kheer. The place serves North indian as well as South indian cuisine.
B. G.
Good reasonably priced Indian food. Love their combo meals. Rotis and naan are Tandoor oven baked and tasty. Went there twice when I was staying in downtown. First in a long time to see Beef curry an under appreciated meat in Indian food.
N. K.
Indian cuisine restaurants serving curries and other Indian dishes. The place is clean and hygiene with plenty of seating available. It is close to the Flinders Street station and conveniently located next to the tram stop. The food is ok, but the portions are smaller as compared to the other Indian cuisine restaurants that you can find in the same area. Prices are higher than competitor prices.
A. J.
Food is average, ambience also average. Accessibility is superb since there is Flinders Street station and a tram stop at its doorstep. Staff is also average, not smart and cheerful people but not rude either, thank God for that. Ok for Indians but I wouldn't suggest for others.
A. G.
Fast service and decent food quality. The staff can be a bit rude at times but that could be due to volume. Portion sizes are quite big too. Best part is the location in the heart of Melbourne CBD. Good place for a quick bite.
N. K.
Good food at great price. But menu options are less as compared
A. P.
Truly authentic Indian food with a neighbourhood feeling to it. Cheap , fast and reliably very tasty. Definitely worth a stop if you're looking for good indian food in Melbourne.
L. L.
I happened to visit here on the Diwali night. Believe me people were waiting to place their order and the queue was extended upto the road. This was my first visit to flora tried their biriyani, combos with naan, roti, sambar vada and mango lassi. The biriyani was good but seems to be over priced for the quantity they serve. The taste was ok. More of a self service kind of restaurant.
N. M.
Loved having chole bhature from Flora. Delicious and good quantity. Masala dosa was allright. The sambar was made with canned tomatoes.
K.
Flora is an excellent Indian restaurant and bar located across the road from Flinders St station. Its highly accessible location makes it a prime choice for people on the go. Despite its simple decor within, the venue accomodates many people and groups and staff are efficient are serving the busy crowd.
I actually over ordered Naan bread for a standard curry and the beautiful and empathetic Sandeepal rectified the issue quickly and we came to a reasonable conclusion that I would review the experience fairly after she had provided additional curry to supplement the error. Usually a store would advise me if I as sure that I wanted that much naan with my order and it didn't happen this time but Sandeepal handled the situation professionally and out the customer satisfaction beyond all else.
I highly recommend this restaurant for its affordable price point, great flavour and very filling serving portion.
A. N.
This is my first visit to Melbourne and on day one I have hit this place for dinner.. Nice place and they have good variety both in veg and non veg.. However I felt ordering sep. Is bit a over costly then combo but taste was good enough.. Ordered garlic naan and same was very soft and nice to eat.. Panner Masala was a bit different taste but that's bound to be as I am comparing to actual Indian taste but the gravy was also good..
S. K.
Definitely a five star. This one must visit Indian restaurant in the fiddlers st area. Multiple small and big combo options to chose from. Well priced combo meals and good portion. Tried fish, daal, paneer, lamb and chicken. All well cooked, spicy but not chilly. Nan and rice in a combo missing though. Additionally I you get dosa idly samosa chat and other options as well. Big dining space inside. Had tea that had too big of a portion and not worth $3.75.
K. F.
Good food, Good price but poor hygiene. Today I had diarrhoea all day, after having dinner at Flora last night. Have to go to the doctor to get medicine. So be careful. I do go to this place very often, it it is very good value for money. But just be careful.
S. C.
Quick service at any time of the day, the food taste can be improved, perfect place for lunch or snack in the city.
The quality of foodhad changed/reduced with very little food served for the price being charged.
I had to change my review since my last visit which was six months ago.
A. A.
Yo!!! Improved service and food! I like that!;
Updated from 4 to 5 stars. This place is on a very good location and great value serving tasty dishes and options.
T.
Very authentic (casual canteen style) venue.. plays bollywood tunes and all... But the vindaloo is easily the best in Melbourne. Menu is great value! Coffee is cheap too.
J. S.
We had an amazing experience at Flora Indian! The team was super friendly and looked after us so well. Love the relaxed vibe there too. SO many vegan options too.
We tried some Kingfisher Beer along with our food which was refreshing!
Vegan options include: eggplant curry, lentil dhal, potato curry, stuffed dosa, naan and rice with lots of yummy sauces, fried pakora and samosas, yum! It was all delicious!!
A great location and affordable too! :)
Y. B.
Quick service, good food, Dahi vdda is strongly recommended.
S. M.
While our stay in Melbourne had food here once daily either in lunch or dinner.Very tasty and nice customer service.Tried lot of varieties from north Indian to south Indian delicacies. Also had vegetarian as well as non vegetarian items and was never disappointed. If you love Indian food a must visit here.Very neat and clean and big enough to accommodate lot of people.
T. H.
Good food at decent prices and mostly authentic. Would give 5 stars but the place felt a bit dirty. I don't think they value clean tables and toilets as much as they should.
S. V.
Visited it once and found it quite decent. Interiors remind me of a regular Indian restaurant. Service was satisfactory, and service time was optimal. Sitting arrangements have some scope of improvement. Since it is situated on a busy road, it is mostly running, but not crowded necessarily.
a. s.
Went in there super hungry came out super satisfied. We reached very late to Melbourne and were hungry and craving indian food. So got to know from a local about this cheap indian place more like fast food. We went in there with no expectation and from the look of it we were very unsure. But when we saw a huge line of people taking food and eating there we had a feeling it will be ok. But it was more than ok. It was satisfaction of your hunger and taste buds together. I am sure there are better and many more indian places but this one serves its purpose very well.
C. R.
Great indian food!
R. S.
Chicken Biryani was good today; $10.9 and serve is good. 2 plates is enough for 2 parents and 2 primary kids. Coming again.
Downside is I will bring my own spicy hot chilly sauce from home next time.
R. D.
If you are from South Asia and esp from India you Will definitely love this place. The lady out there is immensely helping beside being very apt and expert at her job. Nice place to eat Indian food.
R. E.
Great cheap eats ... good quality and flavour. If you want silver service go elsewhere .... if you want decent good stuff s reasonable price ... look no further.
Consistently decent 👍🏽
L. H. M.
Great place to get a very good quick meal. The food is pretty good and tasty for a buffet. Love going here when I'm in the city! Definitely recommend. Love their Gulab Jamuns too.
V. M.
My friends and me occasionally use Flora as a place for a no fuss, quick and easy affordable feed, usually on the way to the footy. Service is dependent on customer volume but it's usually friendly and efficient regardless. Serves are of good size and value priced. This is not a restaurant where one sits and relaxes though. It's more a cafeteria style where turnover is high. The place can get noisy but in a way that's part of its appeal. Being close to the station is very handy. Two substantial samosas for the train ride home at $3 each is great value.

Excellent friendly service and excellent food.
S. B.
Popular Indian restaurant opposite Flinders Street Station. Good food on a budget, and the curry is freshly made. Naan a bit light, but overall an excellent meal and highly recommend.
A. M.
OK reasturant with great location but not really good food and service.
D. S.
Good restaurant, yummy taste and good variety of indian food, butter chicken, chilli chicken and started indian groceries as well.
V. I.
Good restaurant with decent quantity of food. Thali is definitely worth a try. They have fixed vegetarian options for the Thali. Thali is filling and sumptuous. Located very close to Flinders Station and next to Unilodge.
m. n.
Beautiful flavour, wonderful service!
J. Y.
They sell chat masala here. …
A. G. G.
Its average. The Masala Dosa is cheap and value for money and chhole bhature are tasty. You can try fried chicken dishes, they're good. Rest food is average. Though, don't miss the kheer, its delicious.
M. H.
Very good food. I tried goat curry, rice, mango lassi. Very tasty. The biryani is a bit spicy.
S. a. (. a.
It's being Indian restaurant, people going there are normally accompanied by the guides of travel tour operators like Kesari, veena, Thomas Cook etc. Indian tourists accompanied by the tour company are promised by them to serve Indian food in Australia USA and Europe even in Asia and USSR too. You name the place and Indian restaurant is there . Indian food recipes are popular among local residents being healthy vegetarian recipes.
j. r.
If you are looking for south Indian restuarant this is the place to visit as there are not many dosa vada idli places in melbourne. Always busy with fresh food and tasty with a wide choice to cater for north as well style. No need to book and solo diners always welcome. Quick service and friendly.
S. B.
Good Indian food. A little expensive but portions served are generous. The rotis served here are good.Dal/vegetables and lamb rohan dishes are delicious. Worth paying this restaurant a visit any time.
J. M.
What a find!! How have we missed this - just opposite Flinders Station. Absolutely smashing food and helpful, lovely staff! We will be back
b. s.
Only Thali and snacks are great.do not order al carte curries. It is more like fast Indian food joint.
S. B.
Quite good generally . But quality is not consistent. Sometimes we loved the food, sometimes its just 'ok' types. Combo thalis / plates are VFM. The have labels on curry that tells if it's mild, sweet or spicy.. Guess that's helpful.
V. G.
The chicken tikka is so good that even once I became vegan I couldn't pass it up... Bad vegan! Great chicken!
S. D.
R. S.
Love this restaurant. They have been consistently servicing decent Indian food. Also, have to mention their efficient service. Can't fault that.
S. B.
The chefs here create a competitor for pancakes, larger and flatter, exceptions are no honey, jams or syrups here with the plain (no potato), is my choice!
Management and staff ere affable!
D. R.
The food was Great. My wife brought her Neice, who wanted Vegetarian food and we like meat dishes. We were all happy with our Dishes.
R. D.
This is our go too Indian restaurant when we come to Melbourne.. Always great flavours and great value for money. Always filled with locals. You can't go wrong with a thali or dosa!
A. H.
Good if you're hungry and in a hurry. Bain marie based selection of curries that are quite fresh as turnover is high due to high volume of customers. Not fancy, but quality at a budget friendly price.
K.
Great food and lovely customer service.
A. M.
Great place to grab a quick bite.
L. G.
Great food and good value.
s. k.
delicious food 😋😋 staff members are very sweet they take the order with cute smile .few month ago one lady who take the order behave like a mother who serves the food with full of love 🤗🤗🤗
C. R. A.
I am giving 5 for the taste of food. Ambience can be ignored. Decent crowd. Visited this place twice in 2 days. The food was ready in no time. One of the very few places where you find south indian dishes with good taste. I liked the sambar idli vada and dosa.
A. R.
I go here a lot, it's quick, easy, tasty and cheap... It very much reminds me of India. It's a funny no frills offering in regards to flow and function of the space bar as you enter some funny nook/book shelf arrangement in the middle of proceedings. I'm sure fensu experts would have a total meltdown in this place. Bollywood on the T.V very international feeling in the strangely decorated and culturally adorned grand dining hall.
C. C.
I tried this Indian restaurant 4 years ago and was disappointed as the sauces for the paper dosa were a let down. I have since tried Flora and was pleasantly surprised the quality seems to have improved. The paper dosa was a 7/10. Not the best but definitely not the worst paper dosa I have tried in Mebourne. There is a better paper Dosa location, at Dosa Corner on King St. The flavours are much more authentic than at Flora as highly frequented by the local Indian student and business community.
C. B.
Food was alright nothing fancy. Felt like food came from can (like I'd cook it at home). Not best Indian in my opinion. Nice place though with alot of seats etc cross road from Flinders Street station
S. B.
Good food. I like their thali and ras malai. South Indian food is average however there could be some improvement in the ambience and cleanliness. Toilets are really bad and liquid soap is really poor quality.
C. S.
Wonderful indian food in melbourne
K. K.
Tasty food. Good and friendly customer service. Large dinning area.
J.
The best item is Goat Masala. Must try it if you are a non-veg.
Genuine prices, staff is cooperative. Plenty of space to sit. Garlic naan is also good.
Y. A.
My husband likes the Chicken biryani of this place. I try different items each time. Food taste can be improved somewhat. Sambar does not taste good. Too much of Alu in sABji.
T.
Good food at excellent pricing. Went here almost everyday on my trip to Melbourne. You have to try the masala dosai. They give you the tastiest gravy. So many other things to try out as well.
J. R.
Great food and good prices. Ask the staff for help if you're not sure what to order :)
S. P.
The food is adverage though I find the service lacking. I personally not well versed in Indian cuisine so ask several people there with the food.
None give me a proper answer.
L. M.
It is a good drop in spot for quick, cheap tasty Indian food. Most dishes aren't that spicy, but dosa and made to order are better. Naan is good.
R. S.
Food is very tasty and yummy..staff is very friendly highly recommend 💯
G. M.
Good indian comfort food.
R. P.
Love love love Flora. Go on the weekend for the specials like Chole and aloo tikki. They have Does! Better Chaat then some other more expensive places... Looks like a food court but you're there for the food not a date. Have fun
H. S.
Lol okay the reviews look bad but I tend to enjoy my food whenever I come out to eat. We tried many places but this one is perfect as this place has variety of flavours and the Food IS SO GOOD!!! YOOOOM!
A. C. C.
Basic decor but authentic Indian food. An excellent choice for those looking for south Indian style. Dosa combination is delicious!
S. C. (.
Absolutely ginormous portions, the food for the kind of money being paid was good. Word of Caution if you're going in try not to over order, for eg. One large combo meal is enough for two slightly overweight adults.
E. T.
What can I say consistently good food at such low prices, fast, clean venue and friendly staff. So super close to Flinders so convenient if you need a decent nosh before getting a train.
S. G. S.
Being use to indian cuisine, its really difficult to adjust to other cuisine. Dinning at Flora was a good experience. Although I must say the flavour is not that Indian but it was a good break for us.
l. c.
M going to give 3 star only.. As I expected delicious food, but they always put same stuff almost in every recipe.. Smosa, wdda, dosa and other things..
Giving star only for cleanliness..
R. D.
A no frills North Indian curry house gem. Staff were nice and friendly despite some difficult customers. I have been many times while in the city and always recommend to picky friends.
A. M.
Everything about flora rules. Loves the dosa. Love the number system for collecting your meals. Good, honest, quick grub. Very reasonably priced
C. D.
Like an old reliable friend - convenient location, clean, and food is consistently good. Can get very busy during peak hours as it's a popular spot to get a quick bite while waiting for your train or before going out to an event or a show as it's right in front of Flinders St station. That said, it's not the cheapest or the best Indian food within the Melbourne CBD. If you're not rushed for time, this probably won't be your first choice, but you're still glad that it's there for those other times when you just want a quick bite. Also, haven't noticed many other places in the CBD that serve vada(savoury donuts), this is the only one I know of.
F. S.
Been going to Flora for years their food is consistent. Just finished Masala Dosa it's my favourite dish along with the samosa. Ask for a masala tea finishes a good lunch
J. H.
Cheap, authentic, buffet-style Indian in the heart of Melbourne. Everything is clean and fresh and the staff are friendly. Try the masala dosa, it's under $8 and ridiculously tasty.
A. J.
Biriyani is not spicy, which is a good thing for me.... Plus its only 11$ . If you go on a saturday you will get a chance to try the goat biriyani.
A. S.
Went for vegetarian. Filled up for < 15 bucks. Quick service. Good flavours.
S. C.
One of my favourite restaurants where we visit often when we are near Flinders Street station. Very affordable price range. Chennai Chicken is highly recommended
R. D.
Enjoyed South Indian food. Quality appreciated, service is quick!! A must visit for authentic Indian snacks!!
M. C.
Tasty curry and perfect naan. Shame Portions are too small. Only got two small pieces of chicken for one of my meat options :( Otherwise would of rated higher.
A. B.
Great food. Brilliant to be able to have lots of different types of veg and non veg curry without having to eat or pay too much.
s. j.
It's very good, in heart of the city, every body in this resturent have good nature. Taste is good, and most of the Indian dishes is available.
E. I.
I love it! Prices are good and food is amazing, has become my favourite dine in Indian restaurant in the heart of the city.

Tandoori Roti was really good, sabzis, dal needs improvement and chicken isn’t even edible. I quiet enjoy sambhar vada, paranthas and some frothy there.
S. S.
Generally good food at a cheap price, but their Chicken 65 is MINDBLOWING. Best spicy chicken dish in all of Australia for me. That's how good I rate it.
M. A.
Cheap and cheerful. Food certainly okay. Self service and basic decor. Good for a quick feed if curry and naan takes your fancy.
m. r.
Enjoyed the dosas immensely. An extremely cost-effective eating experience
Z. E.
I love Flora! It's one of my favourite Indian places to eat at in the CBD 💕💕
I highly recommend their dosa! The dosa combination is quality for a really good price
K. C.
Decent sized portions, reasonably priced and mango lassi was the best. Masala dosa was as good as the one I had in little India at Singapore.
J. V.
Good food at even better prices. The service is fast pace however the venue is not your sit down and waited restaurant (cutlery and drinks is self serve) but that makes no difference the food is great!
s. a.
Ambience: 3/5 (Not a very good furniture or amenities.)
Food: 3/5 (As being Indian, I can say food is quiet average.)
Value: 4/5 (Food is quiet a value for money)
Speed: 4/5 (Serving is quiet quick, you will get order in 10 minutes)
A. l.
Always amazing food. Visiting them since I came to this country in 2013 and never disappointed. Whenever I go to city, I try to have lunch over here.
K. N.
Dosa was nice..... The Sambar was like North Indian Sambar and coconut chutney tasted Good.. The kheer was very tasty.... The jalebi would have been yummier if it was hot... Fast and friendly service
M.
One of my favourite places to grab cheap Indian food Melbourne. Even if I've decided to cook at home to save money, a quick walk past Flora will always change my mind!
o. d.
Good food for cheap price
U. G.
I tried masala dosa here and it yum. It feels like you are back in India. The service is quick. The place is neat and cheap. Must try for all the people who like Indian food.
P. C. (. H.
Always consistently good Indian food. Laminex tables. Cheap interior. But authentic and we and our friends love it
T. L.
Such a great cheap masala dosa! Not exactly luxury. Just good, well- priced South Indian food.
A. A.
It's cheap and good. The amount of food you get could perhaps be increased. However, it is generally enough what you get. Quality of food is above average. Try their Chhole Bhature on weekends.
M. H.
Great food, great atmosphere, great staff and great service. Can't wait to come back!
R. S.
A budget, not so fancy but up to mark indian food. Limited options.
C. V.
Great food at affordable rates. Lots of veg and non veg variety. The only minor issue was the quality of the toilets.
D. B.
Good Punjabi n South Indian food served with a smile.Kesari Khir was a bonus for the group of Indian-Gujarati tourists.Punjabi thali also available
K. !.
Food quality good, fast service as well. I only tried vegetarian options which were exactly as I taste in India.
R. M.
Delicious Southern Indian curry offerings and great naan bread. Thoroughly enjoyed
M. H.
Great place to get a quick fresh meal in city til late. Cafeteria style. Good for solo eaters. Bollywood movies on tvs to amuse you
P. F.
Very authentic food, ambiance and service. Could be superb but it's not. Can't put my finger on why though...
D. W.
Cheap. Very good. Very fast. Think of it as an Indian fast food restaurant. Noisy and central, there is a buzz around here and lots of repeat business.
N. G.
Always a reliable spot for a dosa fix. Service was quick however the Masala tea did not live up to its billing but rest was great.
D. G.
Great service, wonderful food and fair prices!
e. m.
Decent place to have Indian food, with an amazing location right opposite Flinders station. Although the food is average if compared with other India restaurants in the city.
A. G.
Average restaurant as far as taste is concerned. But highly crowded because of its location. They do serve some specialities like Tandoor chicken, Rasmalai, Kheer, pakodas
S. N.
A wide selection of dishes to choose from. The meal is always consistent and very tasty. The value for money, makes this a great place for a cheap and cheerful meal.
