Sticky date pudding is the best here! I came here on Wednesday 1130hrs, my colleague and I were the only ones at first put it started filling up soon after. Place wasn't packed but at least half the place was full, surprising for mid-week but that's how popular this place is. The service is really good, I love the seating area near the big windows. You get a good view of the street. Tables are placed at a comfortable distance so each table has their own privacy. We shared a salmon on pancake main dish ($28) and it was very good. My picture was taken halfway through the meal so it doesn't show that it comes with 3 pancakes. We also shared the sticky date pudding and each had a coffee. Perfect way to end a meal! I could drink the butterscotch syrup, it was that good! And the pudding was so moist and just absorbs the syrup. So good!! I'll be back to try the scones, apparently they're good.

In regard to the place, it has a beautiful vibe with flower arrangements around you and window tables overlooking the main street. The Devonshire scones and coffees were good too. This is a great restaurant with good parking (but can get busy on weekends). We always phone ahead and book but you could just arrive and try your luck. The food is of good quality and varied. My wife loves the fact there is a gluten free menu with a large number of dishes to choose from. Prices are more than fair for both food and wine. Staff were polite and efficient. So in summary if you want a good meal with cute surrounds in the great village of Sassafras - try this place.

Great place for lunch. Delicious Fisherman's Lunch. Tastefully decorated and lots of windows. Watch birds come into the garden while you eat. Friendly service. Spectacular views through the Dandenong Ranges on the drive up and back.

Absolutely stunning location & venue. Have been here multiple times to try out various dishes. Their scones & sticky date pudding are my fav! Their high tea option is a bit on the expensive but there is still a variety of food on offer. The staff are quite friendly but this place is usually busy so they are usually hustling around & can at times take some time to attend to your table.

Lovely staff member today however food not up to scratch. Quite disappointing. Roast beef was warm at best. Potato dish was mushy, poorly presented. Is there a new chef or was the kitchen overwhelmed? We love this beautiful place but something has changed in the food department unfortunately.

Attentive service. Food very mediocre. - high tea $70 pp without bubbly and not using Fortnums tea, but the local “Tealeaves” brand. Nothing wrong just misleading due to the name. (Compared to other high teas $75 pp including a glass of sparkling) - truly bland sandwiches - lemon curd from a jar, does not look or taste housemade - whipped cream feels and tastes like the canned version - scones here are more like bread than scones, not crumbly or melt-in-your mouth at all.

The menu was varied and they had a separate one showing only the gluten free meals. They went above and beyond to ensure everyone had an enjoyable experience. The food was lovely, I couldn't fault my meal. Parking was a little difficult, but that's the same for every shop and restaurant up there. They have a carpark out the front and spaces became available for the patient people. I wondered if there was any parking in the primary school next door.

Went for high tea with a few friends, it was lovely. The food was tasty and delicious and the setting was beautiful. It did get a bit loud with the lunchtime crowd, people talking over each other but that was to be expected.

It's really nice place with beautiful bright interior. Food was really fresh, nice and ambience was wonderful. Nice flowers and lights in every corner. Menu was simple yet had everything you could ask for. Staff were mostly really friendly except for when we asked them to give us the table that we wanted which was empty (she pretty much forced us to sit where she was more comfortable with). Other than that, the staff were super friendly, helpful and attentive.

Firstly on the weekend the parking is an absolute nightmare here so that is extremely off-putting. My husband and I spent 17min driving around Sassafras trying to park. Some customers of this restaurant took up two car spots as well so they could help in this area by marking the car spots or telling people to go back outside and repark! The waitresses were friendly but the meals took a very long time to be served. My potato was just ok (was luke warm as well) though my husband liked his pot pie a lot and our desserts were delicious. Overall given the cost of the food I didn't feel the experience was good enough to recommend given the terrible parking situation and slow service. I don't mind paying a bunch for food but expect a nicer overall experience for the cost.

Have been here a few times and the restaurant is definitely very pretty and staff was friendly every time. The food is nice but salad is quite bland and slightly overpriced. We ordered Ice coffee and would not recommend. Just go with the normal coffee! Dessert is ordinary. I still go back here though because it’s at a good location and the ambience is beautiful on a sunny day.

What a wonderful experience and service from Kirsty and her team. We walked in without a booking after an awesome long hike near by, the restaurant was bustling on a warm Saturday in the Dandenongs. We were immediately offered cold beverages and advised it would be a 25 min wait we were happy to sit and browse the gift store next door (actually only 10-15min wait max). The food selection was absolutely delicious and portions sizes were very substantial for lunch. Can’t wait to come back again and be greeted by the smiles and seamless service here. We have made the 45min trip to Dandenong and decided to try this restaurant. We were not disappointed. Atmosphere/place: although yhe place looked cramped when we came in, the place was romantic. I think usually they would have tables outside the deck but it was a cold day when we went there so could only dine indoors. Decors were nice and we loved the spot with the tables situated beside the French windows. Thankfully the very kind waitress moved us to that table when we requested. Food: when we looked at the menu it was typical western food on the list but we were not disappointed with the serving size and flavours. Price was reasonable. The dessert was sumptuous. We ordered Beef burgundy and Seafood basket and Strawberry Eton mess. Staff: staff were very friendly and courteous. There were only three at the time but all of them gave good service. It was busy on the weekday we went there but the staff managed to keep a smile on their faces. Overall we were happy with the dining experience and the important thing is we got that feeling where we wanted to go back another time with family/friends.

I had the best sticky date pudding I’ve ever had in a restaurant, brilliant. I’m certainly keen to use it for group luncheons re Chirpy Aust luncheons. It’s set in the stunning Dandenong Ranges, at Sassafras. Superb!

The customer service was not ideal.... waited so long to get our orders taken, and even after making it obvious we were ready to order my partner had to walk inside and tell them, only then did they come out to take our order..... On top of that, the scones did not come with clotted cream which is the traditional way to have it, it came with a thick whipped cream and jam... It should at least come with butter if there isn't any clotted cream... The special of the day was a salted chocolate tart and that was very nice, which is why I'm giving it a 3 star. And the scones came out warm too, felt very fresh.

Unfortunately the air conditioner was blasting today and it was very chilly sitting under the vent. They said they couldn't reduce the fan speed as it is a fixed setting. Avoid sitting under the A/C vents!! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Overall an acceptable dining experience however plenty of room for improvement.

I eat here at least twice each year. The setting is truly amazing in the heart of sassafras. If you have a table on the corner near the window you can see the parrots feeding. For me it is always the Ploumans lunch but for my wife the vegetarian menu is limited. For atmosphere and comfort it cannot be beaten. A trip to the coffee shop down the road is a must to select your coffee beans. Weekend is always busy.

When does a Devonshire tea not include a cup of tea. Went for a drive up the mountains and decided to stop for Devonshire tea advertised $ 10 per person. Went to pay the account ($30 for three people ) and was told that price did not include the tea or coffee and that would be an extra $12. NOT HAPPY
