A fabulous authentic Italian restaurant with traditional dishes to satisfy all tastes. The specials are always a great choice and add to the usual choices of an Italian restaurant. The service is efficient and friendly when the serving calms down. I love the location and the decor and is typical Melbourne. Missed the food photos as we were all too quick to start. Definitely worth a visit.

This is our first time here. Alana was so friendly and extended a warm welcome. She guided us through each course beautifully. We started with School Prawns and chicken salad. We finished it up with Gnocchi filled with Ricotta cheese accompanied with Clare Valley Shiraz. Everything was so gooood. For me, Gnocchi took the prize. The Dolce menu too looked delicious, I’d have liked the Vanilla bean Pannacotta with fresh berries but we were so full. Finished dinner off with a nice flat white and a short black. The best coffee I’ve tasted. Strongly recommend the Gnocchi 👍 We are certainly coming here again to taste the desserts before we leave 🥳

Walked in on a Friday night with no booking, lucky to get a table since they were busy. Cosy restaurant, old school hospitality especially from the staff member who currently has his arm on a sling. Gnocchi was the star, it was simply amazing. Flavour, portion and quality was outstanding. The 5 star review is due to the Gnocchi. Tiramisu was great as well, decent portion size and flavour. They also seem to have their own coffee beans, ordered a latte that complimented the dessert. l

Three years ago, we were not living in Australia before we got married, but my boyfriend took us to this restaurant. He and I got married two years ago and live here now. The restaurant staff remembered us, both Japanese and American. We recently went to Italy for our honeymoon, and this place has authentic Italian food! This restaurant is perfect for special occasions or anniversaries. I always enjoy a chance to dine here.

But the salmon linguine & squid ink linguine (that my partner had) were both delicious! It’s so nice to go to a restaurant with friendly and knowledgeable staff. The ambulance is that of an old Italian restaurant, you could be buried a lane old Genoa somewhere. Call we had the chef selection and by doing so we received bountiful supply of amazingly good food. Congratulations guys will be back.

We had a later sitting on a Saturday night and it seemed like they were short staffed as we had to wait quite a while before being seated and then another whole before we could order. Thank god for this place in the mornings! The coffee is very good and the breakfast menu (my favourites; Italian scrambled egg and omelette) is excellent. I love the atmosphere too. The lunch and dinner menus however are next level stuff for the price bracket. Fresh ingredients in the very best Italian style of cooking. If you're in the area I highly recommend dedicating one day a week to work your way through the menu.

Delicious Italian food, simply cooked with fresh ingredients, no heavy sauces or over garnishing. Friendly & efficient service. Although it was a busy Fri evening, we were seated after 10mins. We were not rushed with our meals and were very relaxed. The chocolate fondant dessert is to die for.

Stumbled across this on a recent work trip. Great place that got very busy later on. Authentic Italian food and good prices. The menu is small but as a vegetarian I still had no issues finding something. Good wine list too. Decor is rustic Italian with wooden tables, nothing fancy. If you’re looking for a hip Melbourne restaurant this isn’t it, but if you’re after quality food in a relaxed atmosphere you’ve found the right place.

Tomato olive pasta was good but too spicy for a simple pasta dish. flavours were all disguised behind the spice. antipasti were great but chips were ridiculously salted to the point that I was hitting each chip against the side of my plate to knock excess salt off. three orders of flathead were all considerably different in size and somewhat underwhelming for the price and for a pretty cheap fish. waiters did not clean the table well between courses. A lot of little disappointments but overall a good night.

The fish soup at dinner is spectacular. Best I've had in years. The Italian "scrambled eggs" at breakfast are a must. "Scrambled eggs" are not a big thing in Italy but these are inspired. Excellent food, Service and Wine for decent price. My wife and I went to Il Solito Posto upon recommendation from a colleague and we loved it. We returned a few months later and we loved it again. The place is divided into a bistro style and a restaurant section (bistro is for walk-in I think, restaurant would required booking most of times). The restaurant atmosphere is great, with a 'cellar room' feeling. Our waiter was really friendly, knowledgeable and knew when he was needed and when he was not (I don't like being disturbed every two minutes to see if eveything is fine, if I need more water, etc), showing real professionallism in what he did (Waiters too often make or break your experience). The menu is excellent and the quality of the food is suprisingly not over reflected in the average price (Excellent food and reasonable price). I would recommend this place to anyone who likes good, tasty, Italian food without all the 'fioriture' that are added in too many places to simply 'vamp up' the dish and the bill! Excellent wine list as well. Highly recommended if you want to take your better half out for a nice dinner. 10/11/12 My wife and I returned for a casual Friday night dinner to Il Solito Posto last night and once again were very impressed (4 out of 4 experience were great). This time we sat in the 'Bistro' area and were very well looked after from the moment we walked in. We had to wait at the bar for a table, while enjoying a nice glass of Chenin Blanc, but before we knew it we were seated confortably and enjoyed perfectly cooked (REAL AL DENTE!) linguini Frutti di Mare, Rigatoni Porc Bolognese, herb bread, whitebaite and oozing dark chocolate cake. We have tried other Italian in the city (la Bottega, Florentino's etc) but really, nothing compares with Il Solito Posto for the food, the atmosphere, the service and the price. If you are thinking about, just try it.....

I first found this place in the mid naughties! My boss would take me there for lunch and a catch up, she travelled a tonne. I've been a fan ever since. I now live in Sydney, but manage to get back to Melbourne when ever I can. The staff are great, the atmosphere is fantastic. You can either go cafe style or there's a fine dining experience as well. It's a great place to take clients or friends. If you're staying at the Hyatt, ditch their $30+ breakfast and drop into iL Solito Posto, there breakfast is much nice and about half the price.
