Comments of INDU Dining

Not only were we amused and entertained by every dish coming out beautifully presented, (talk about the pops of colour each dish displayed!) they also followed through with the taste.
Out of the set menu, the most memorable and delicious were the Goat leg dosa and fork-tender Pork belly curry with crackling!
The staff looked as if they were genuinely happy to be there.. very memorable customer service.
Can't wait to be back once they're able to do a la carte again!

I ordered everything on the menu except the vegetarian
The kingfish is the best, even its a quite boring dish which u can find in all the restaurant with similar appearance and dressing and tast.
but the one here, the dressing is quite impressive, love it!
Other entrees also ok, since it’s deep fried sth, it’s hard to be bad
But the main lamb was super disappointed, not too much flavor and texture also not that tender.
I ate it just as a protein not to enjoy a dish
The lamb dosa is delicious, too oily but at least delicious
The young Asian waitress was rude and not that professional
But the female manager who is also an Asian was nice and friendly and professional
The experience here was lower than my expection, hard to come again.
The authentic Indian food is better than this kind of western style one
S. P.
Great dining experience! Loved their menu everything tasted delicious. A little wait and confusion around the tables and unfortunately the roti was not made fresh in the kitchen. But other than that no complaints would highly recommend.
K.
First time trying Indian fusion fine dining restaurant. Food and service were wonderful. Although we were waiting for the food for a little while. But it’s a great place, definitely will go back again. 😊
R.
Express lunch but still fab. Loved the food and ambiance. Why 4 stars? Perhaps I came at a time when restos are just opening up, so things are not as smooth.
The menu was still limited, my chai took more than 15 mins to prepare, the person who opened the resto ( I came on time but they were still closed) was not as enthusiastic. Well, little things that matter, but maybe next time I can give out 5 stars.
B. P.
Amazing food topped up with great service and warm ambience!
We ordered the Deluxe Feast . Absolutely recommend it if you are going there for the first time and feel a bit lost on what to order .The flavours in each dish sang flavour , flavour , flavour and married well !
The staff were superb and we appreciate hugely the manager for giving us a booth although we can totally understand economically you want the booths for a bigger party . Now that we have had a memorable first time at INDU, we will absolutely be back and try sitting at the bar which looks into the kitchen 😄😄

I had the best Vegan banquet I've ever had ordered through providoor from Indu last night. It was actually one of the best meals I've had in an incredibly long time. It blew both mine and my partners mind and isn't vegetarian and rated the meal extremely highly. Thanks, we will return!
E.
Great service and terrific food. Only criticism would be the Dark Chocolate Mousse was incredibly rich and more of a ganache to me and my friends but everything else was outstanding. Particularly the pork belly curry.
A. D.
Three amazing set menus, with options within each section and the ability to swap some items between each list. Each delicious course was provided with a detailed description of the ingredients. Extensive choice of drinks. The service was exemplary. Definitely value for money.
P.
Came here to dine before comedy festival. We only had 1 hour before the show. We told the guy who was looking after our table that we had to leave before 8.30pm. Our first order came within less than 10 minutes. We literally finished our dinner before 8.30. Outstanding service. The place is so cute and intimate. Very interesting menu but worth to try 👍
M. S.
Interesting Yummy Sri Lankan food. Attentive waiters. Banquet great value ($65 option) for the quantity and flavour of food. Mains were almost too big for us but still left happy. Recommend, the goat dosa in particular.
L. S.
Dined here on the 18th May with my partner. Lovely recommendations by the host, while also pairing with wines. Cured kingfish was very fresh and flavoursome. Very dreamy atmosphere and we were seated in a curtained off cosy corner.
T. N.
Love the set menu, everything was very delicious. Lots of the set menu these days are small and very underwhelming however INDU had got it right. I definitely go again and highly recommend it. Service was excellent too. Thank you for a great nighy.
M.
Great food, lovely space, service needs work. We had a date night, and so loved the look and feel of the restaurant. The food is delicious, the wine list had many good options, but the service was patchy and so we ended up leaving rather than ordering more. It’s nearly really, really good.
M.
A beautiful space with top-notch service serving mild Sri Lankan fusion food.
I am a fan of String hoppers - loved the texture of the "vermicelli like noodles", perfect for scooping up coconut sambal and curries. The version served at Indu comes with a very mild Kiri Hodi (creamy curry) and sweet, nutty coconut sambal.
I am also a huge fan of Eggplant Moju - another well known Sri Lankan dish - the version here is perfectly fried eggplant with a creamy, smoky. sweet and sour flavour - just give me a bowl of white rice, and I am happy.
I am not familiar with Sri Lankan Dosa, but I love the South Indian version. A Google search indicate that Sri Lankan dosa has more Urad Dhal in it, where as the South Indian dosai has more rice. The one in Indu is served circular, is crispy, with lots of lovely goat meat, I find it slightly denser that the South Indian version - still delicious.
The lovely waitress told us that the lamb Raan is a dish that they had served in the Sydney sister restaurant since opening 4-5 years ago - its a beautifully executed "melt-in-the-mouth" lamb dish with a vibrant mint sauce.
All up, the dishes that I have ordered are delicious - just a little too restraint on the spices for my palate.
S. J.
Interesting modern take o Srilankan dining. The venue is beautiful. Loved the fried steong hoppers with prawns, the dosa was also fab. But the egg hopper was my favourite!!!!!
S. J.
Really interesting twist on Sri Lankan food in a fine dining setting. There was some good food here and I am sure they will get better as they open for more days. The staff are still in training not knowing exactly what was going on at times and being quite confused as to what was being put out on the table.
Overall, we enjoyed the food and the head waiter Tom was lovely and apologised for any errors.
We did the Signature feed me option which is not mentioned on the menu and confused the wait staff quite a bit. A few times we sent the wrong dishes back or tried the wrong dishes. The ones we did have were great though. Loved the pomegranate additions as well.
Things to definitely try:
Devilled Prawns
Dosa with Goat Leg
Amma’s Daal
Vegan Choc Mouse
We had other dishes but not sure I would recommend yet, The Great Lamb Raan didn’t seem to fit in to the menu and had an interesting spice hit.
Z. K.
Service was great. The waitress we had was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the dishes on the menu. The recommendations by the waitress were great and the food was soo good.
J. T.
Good food, quick and efficient service. Unusual seating though, was seated next to a curtain with another table on the other side and was weird to hear them that close
C. B.
Ambiance is cosy and nice ! The food was great! We loved it!
The service was rapid and the staff helpful!
The music could be more adapted to the restaurant theme.
The dessert surprisingly missed the chai meringue but it was very good.
D. L.
Great experience all around. The atmosphere is subdued and comfortable (a bit too hot, really) with chill ambiance music. Knowledgeable staff. 6 of us shared 5 of the light plates and 3 mains (with rice, raita and paratha) giving us a nice array. The pork belly and the deviled pumpkin were amazing. (Photo is the tuna croquettes and besan fritters). We went on a Wednesday night, half full restaurant, no significant wait, all G&Ts at $10. Very well priced for the quality and quantity of the food. Highly recommend. They were also mindful of our appetite for spice level but we all agreed the dishes weren't packing as much heat as advertised.
Y. A.
First time visiting, need to go again to be sure. Currently its a set menu with 3 choices. Went with the Classic banquet. Starters are very small but main course is quite substantial. The pork belly curry was nice, not great. The lentil curry was quite good. Service was lacking, hard to get a drink and took forever to get drinks as well. Would be keen to see how they perform next time and more with an al a carte menu.
M. F.
Fabulous food in a lovely setting with great service. We had limited ourselves to the Providoor boxes during lockdown but we couldn't wait to book to eat in, and wow, Indu didn't disappoint. This is a special place.
S. P.
This place is great! Do yourself a favor and visit this lovely restaurant in Melbourne City. The service is unmatched. The staff truly cares about your experience. The food is absolutely amazing – everything we tasted melted in other mouths. Absolutely the best meal we had in Melbourne.Highly recommend!
H. D.
So so yummy. Had the feast menu and absosltuley everything we ate was just incredible, including the best coconut icecream I'd ever eaten. The venue was beautiful and I loved the use of spice baskets as decorations, the smell was engulfing
v. u.
Loved the spread of the classic feast. The food tasted delicious. The ambience was quiet and serene. Very attentive and friendly staff.
D. F.
We attended the inaugural Gin and Jazz event at Indu and were so delighted with the food, the service and the ambience that we've already made reservations for our anniversary and Christmas Eve dinner there. If you like authentic Sri Lankan food without too much heat with a lovingly curated menu in a beautiful setting, look no further than Indu.
J. L.
Great to finally get to Indu. Lives up to its reputation to an all rounder restaurant. Great ambience, friendly service and really well presented ans tasty modern Sri Lankan cuisine. Very mild flavours but perfectly balanced. Even the chefs were happy so that’s a good sign. Will definitely be back. Thanks for a great night
J. T.
The food was delectable and the staff were super friendly. The ambience would have been perfect had it not been for the music, which felt somewhat out of place. Overall, we had an excellent experience.
a. d.
Hosted a few friends here. As an ethnic Indian, did not know some of the items we ordered even existed in the Indian/SL palates. If you are looking for fusion Indian/SL food, this is the place to be. Tasteful, flavoursome and fine dine at its best. 3 things to be mindful of.
1. If you are looking for value, not the place.
2. If you are a vegetarian, fixed menu offers little unless your idea of fine dine Indian is yellow dal and boiled rice in main course.
3. As there is one kitchen that serves 2 restaurants, wait times can get irritating and long.
Cheers

Great atmosphere and beautiful fit out, 4 of us sat in one of the pods, service was very good and staff informative about the menu which was all about sharing, the food was really nice. Wine list very reasonable too!
S. F.
Sri Lankan dishes, fusion style, perfectly balanced and amazing flavours. Service was a little patchy, but overall very impressed and definitely a must go.
S. J.
Lovely night out. Great food - had the signature menu $80, plenty of food. Staff were lovely and very helpful.
J. D.
Service was top notch! They’re amazing and catered to dietary requirements. We enjoyed every single food we ordered as well as the drinks. $10 for G&T was great value! Would happily pay full price for them. The flavours were enjoyable and unique. Will definitely be back!
C.
A group of us came here for dinner last Saturday and it did not disappoint. The entrance / decor is really nice and welcoming. I have never been to a Sri Lankan restaurant so I didn't know what to expect. Every dish we ordered was delicious (especially the egg hoppers!). Accompanied with a few bottles of wine and cocktails made it a great night. Service was also friendly and efficient. Will be back!
T. F.
We loved our dinner at Indu. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable. The restaurant ambience was great. More importantly though, we were a hard audience - being Sri Lankan, we know Sri Lankan food. And Indu's take on it was great! We loved the combination of traditional recipes and modern takes on the traditional. Highlights were the mushroom dosa, the Great Lamb Raan and the Brussels Sprouts with Pol Sambol. This was our first time at Indu but will not be our last!
S. D.
I ordered an Indu meal box for my partners birthday in Lockdown. I had missed the notice to order before 5pm for next day delivery but the team were fantastic in ensuring I received the meal box on the correct day. The food was amazing and has me very eager to come and eat in person. Thank you so much!
T. O.
Nice atmosphere. Was not too noisy until people behind us starting singing (badly) and laughing at loud. The food was really good: don't expect traditional Indian food but more Sri Lankan type. Good variety. The service was good too.
T. C.
4 of us went for lunch and had the $65pp chef's menu. Sensational! We all raved about it. Loved the food, the restaurant design and ambience and the service was great. We all had a great experience. We'll be back for sure!
M. T.
Food was beautiful. Only thing I can fault was we were sitting in a booth and the view was a blank brick wall. A little closed in
L. S.
A fantastic experience. We had the set menu. The food, drinks and service all 5 star. Highly recommend
D. G.
Unbelievable food and service. Had an absolutely amazing meal of incredible sri lankan food in beautiful atmosphere with great service. The best meal we had in Melbourne.
S. G.
Enjoyed a fantastic dining experience at Indu. The setting was cosy, the service was impeccable and the food was absolutely delicious.
S. C.
Food was great but front of house could be improved as left standing for a while and initial service was quite slow (often had to wave someone down)
Otherwise a great experience with wonderful food.
B. M.
We loved our experience here: great vibe and great staff, though be warned that the food is rather spicy (even after asking for a 'mild' version).
C. -.
INDU dining is a great addition to Melbourne’s diverse food scene, but some improvements are required to make it a truly great dining experience.
Service was an odd mix of being overly attentive and gone missing in other areas.
The waitress walked past our table 6 times in about 15 minutes, waiting for us to finish the plates so she could serve the next course. While I can understand if this was a first sitting and they needed to stay within a certain timeframe for the next customers, we were within the second seating so I felt no need for the pressure she was placing.
Personally, I found it quite uncomfortable and unnecessary.
The male waiter, who I assume may be front of house manager, was the opposite. Waters were left unfilled till asked. And wine glasses were not topped up despite having half a bottle left.
Onto the food.
- Egg hoppers and eggplant moju were very good. The highlights of the meal we had. Very tasty and interesting.
- The devilled prawns were very cold when served. Which surprised me, and not in a good way. Would have improved with a bit of time left out of the fridge prior to serving.
- Dosa, kingfish and barramundi dishes were underwhelming.
- Pork belly curry is good, tasty. But didn’t blow my mind. A safe choice.
- beetroot raita is extremely refreshing, really enjoyed it
Overall lots of interesting flavours and lots of potential, but don’t think it was well executed. Service could also be improved.
E. H.
The food was excellent and the service impeccable. We chose the chefs menu which was generous and we savoured every mouthful. I would recommend getting the chefs menu in terms of tasting a number of dishes at great value. The dishes were brought out at a lovely relaxed pace and in a manner that didn't interrupt your conversation. The wait staff were very attentive and friendly. Thank you Wheeler, for your service.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be dining here again.
E. C.
Wow!! This place is a must try if you want to experience new flavours. The cured kingfish was delicate and beautiful, goat leg dosa out of this world, the albacore tuna croquettes crunchy and tasty, and the besan fritters were like nothing I have ever tasted before...amazing!! Pork belly curry not like any other curry I have ever tasted before. We weren’t going to have dessert but thought we would try a couple to share....well we were certainly surprised; vegan chocolate mousse with pineapple sorbet then the mint granita with coconut ice cream were well beyond expectations and undersold on the menu. This is not just another Indian restaurant. This is well worth a try and the ambience and service made for a memorable evening. Congratulations Indu!!
D. F.
Amazingly friendly staff, great atmosphere and delicious food. Was nice to be somewhere a bit more peaceful and have some different cuisine.
V. N.
Great meal and service - the food was exceptional, staff great and a lovely ambiance...except, however, the music was a bit loud - why do restaurants feel the need to play loud music?
P. X.
WONDERFUL flavours, the ambience was gorgeous. We were excited and had the chefs banquet-- it was generous and completely DELICIOUS, you will love the surprise flavours ! Fresh, tangy and tropical - I must also mention the attentive and knowledgable staff. We really can't wait to go back. Thank you for such a decadent & unique elegant experience, Lastly, must check out the upstairs function room looks promising for hours of delicious fun * * * * * *
M. M.
What a wonderful restaurant! Definitely worth a visit - beautiful little private banquet seating, friendly and attentive staff and possibly the best Sri Lankan food I have ever eaten ! Must try.
Small but perfect menu ( try the lemon rice- which is what I would call yellow rice or Kaha Bath) it was delicious. Save room for dessert because the surprisingly well rounded dessert menu is worth a try - we had the spiced carrot cake, the vegan chocolate mousse and the curry leaf ice cream - all were delicious! Great job guys we will be back !
B. A.
Service first class as always and the food was at it’s best. One of our favourite spots on a Friday night. Great to be back!
K. H.
Great food, drinks, staff and setting! Really is one of the best Sri Lankan restaurants in Victoria. Reasonably priced and fabulous flavours. Pleasantly surprised the bursts of flavour with every bite. Thanks so much we had the best night.
N. S.
A next level experience. From the beginning when you enter into this place, you feel that vibe. Excellent decor. Excellent staff. Excellent food. Excellent customer service. What else do you expect from a fine dining restaurant. Must try this real Sri Lanka in Melbourne.
C. W.
It's was an amazing dinner, great food! Hopper was so yummy, love the flavour.
I give 5 stars to Tom. His customer service was great!

Great interior in such a fab location. Excellent service & a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommend!

If you know an understand food from India & SL this place will just be an okay meal. Great establishment and staff but lacks the true representation of authentic flavours. I have a issue we order the slow cooked lamp rump there were about 40-50 of them pre cooked in a large dish waiting to be reheated so depending on how many are sold on the night you could get a stale one ( which I did ) slow cooking a sepecialty of my cooking so could detect the issues . So if you dont fully understand the technical side of Indian food and cook authentically you will write great reviews for a average meal . The prawn starter was served so cold the flavour was lost . The roti cracker bread average .I could go on an on but to me just a average meal . Ican go down the road and buy a student dhal dish with more flavor Please written in the interest of food . I take my hat off to the owners for having a go at a time of COVID but it needs more attention to flavour and food prep.
V. B.
Marvellous Melbourne we are coming back especially with this beautiful restaurant.
I was intrigued as I walked through the door.Surrounded by warmth and aromas and the food-deliciousness.
Gorgeous staff excellent service and I left with a huge smile.
A. H.
Amazing food, so flavourful and vibrant. Great atmosphere too

Indu in Sydney has been one of my favourite restaurants for years and now that they’ve opened in Melbourne I just had to go. The Gin and Jazz lunch was a great day out with friends. The team from Indu and Patient Wolf were awesome and the food even better. The Gin tasting was fun and informative. If you haven’t been, you must add Indu to your Must Go list. Love Indu!
M. H.
Terrific meal, great service, desserts a stand out
J. S.
My hubby and I are always on the lookout for good Sri Lankan food and INDU didn't disappoint. We had the tuna croquettes, egg hopper, pork belly curry, lemon rice, paratha and daal. Every dish was amazing. Great service too, Tom did a great job looking after us.

This place is surely going to do well. Super flavour explosions with every dish. Perfect drinks menu with generous options. Delicious spice jars for aromatic atmosphere from the front door all the way to the bathrooms upstairs. Great new addition to Melbourne. Welcome Indu. ♡
R. S.
The food has always been spot on. I have been there more than 7 times between the mini breaks we had between Melbourne's Lockdown 3.0, 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0 Lockdown...And was there last night, my latest visit. And the food was AMAZING. The Albacore Tuna Croquettes are DREAMY as always! And thr staff were attentive, LOVELY and accomodating with a smile despite the fact INDU like most Restaurants was short - staffed due to lack of Working - Holiday Visa Workers, etc due to COVID-19! Great job. Thank You to all for a great Friday night dining solo. Cheers. ❤❤
