I have tried here few times on my way to Fitzroy Garden for picnics. The chips are average, potatoes cakes are good, Salmon wrap is great. Not much great options for vegetarians except for the Japanese pancake and potato cake burger filling for a meal! Unfortunately East Melbourne doesn't have much option like the neighbouring suburbs

Solid, traditional fish and chip store - all your favourites, including kumara chips for the kiwis out there!! Portions are also huge and delicious. Bonus being the staff are extremely lovely 😊

As a fellow kiwi I was beyond excited to come and try this place out. On arrival I was giddy at the sight of seeing all of the New Zealand drinks and snacks on offer. This is one of the few fish and chip shops that offer snapper, a kiwi staple at all fish and chip shops back home. We travelled to Collingwood from Port Melbourne and had planned to eat our food at the store which on google stated that they closed at 8.30pm. After ordering and sitting down at the table the lady come over and asked us if we planned on dining in, we said yes. It was 7.45pm and the store closed at 8.30 we had plenty of time. She then informed us they planned on closing at 8pm and didn’t want us to rush our food. She asked if we still wanted to dine in. We said we would take away as trying to rush and eat everything in 10mins was not what we wanted. We went to the park instead to eat our food. We ordered 2 snapper, 1 flake, 2 potato cakes, large salad with a mix of coleslaw and Greek salad, gravy, med chips. The Snapper was underwhelming It was small and didn’t taste like how snapper normally tastes. The flake was actually better tasting than the snapper. The batter was really odd and not crunchy. I’ve never had a fish with batter like that before in my life. The salad was not fresh and at least a day old, I would probably even say 2 days old. The tomato was mushy and cucumber soft. Coleslaw was mushy and watery. Potato’s cakes were average. Chips were severely lacking salt but overall not a bad chip just needed more salt. Overall it was a very disappointing experience. I feel like if the website says it’s going to shut at 8:30pm they need to shut at 8:30pm. They had customers ringing up ordering fish and chips and the lady was saying how long are you gonna be because we plan on closing at 8pm I found it to be extremely unprofessional and if they keep this behaviour up and keep serving the food at this quality the fish and chip shop is eventually going to shut. The highlight of my trip was the L&P that I brought. I will not be returning. For the fellow Kiwis out there looking for a good feed of fish and chips. This place is not it.

For a change, a short review. Had a simple fare of fish and chips. Food was what you’d expect. Fish was okay but nothing outstanding. Hot chips were good. The portion size okay. You can dine in or takeaway. The eating area looks quite inviting with its warm big timber table. Liked the picture in the window written by a child. Put a smile on my face. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly.

Great Fish and Chips shop! They just get everything right, the fish is so fresh and their fried food is light and tasty. They must use high quality oil. Staff are really friendly and I am impressed with how they always pump out our order quickly even when they are flat out busy!

Maybe I got lucky the chip portion was massive for $5 Battered flake was great so were the chips and tartare sauce. Only downside is the eftpos minimum is $20, bring cash!

Kumara chips, Snapper, Twistes, L&P, Tui, Steinlager, newspaper wrapped chips and even the ol’ chocolate fish, this place was kiwi as bro. Funny that they have a kiwi themed shop and the first 2 things on the menus are Aus gummy flake and the Tasmania Salmon. Little bit pricey but the fish was nice and fresh tasting so overall it was ok to pay a bit more. Choice 👍🏻

If you like your food freshly cooked, then this could be a place for you. I had the Kiwi burger with the lot. It was excellent (especially as it has jalapenos). I pinched a potato cake from a mate, and it was hot and not too oily. There is a good range of drinks available, including original Kiwi soft drinks. There is also plenty of seating for dining in. Definitely worth a visit 👍

Tasty but portion sizes are very small. Here's a picture of their $4.50 chips, hardly any. The flake was about half the size of any regular fish and chips shop.

Potato cakes were overcooked. They threw in a few extra burnt ones, but that didn't unburn them. The fish was nice. Burger was OK. The shop was quite messy. My feet were sticking to the floor. Maybe something smashed in front of the drink fridge? They cooked fish and burgers on the same grill and I'd prefer them to fire up the second grill to keep the fish and meat separate. The staff were really friendly. Overall, it wasn't bad, and it wasn't great. Just average. Maybe slightly above average. If I could give 3.5 stars I would, so will round up to 4 as I'd rather give the benefit of the doubt, especially given the pressures of COVID and how hard it has been for small business.

Food is always fresh - and you can taste it. The burgers are great value and delicious - not worth making your own at home. The fish is fresh - notice when you enter that the shop doesn't smell of fish? Well, that is how it should be. Fish portions may not be huge but it is the quality of the fish you are paying for. Chips perfectly cooked - and always in clean oil. Staff are great - nothing is too much trouble in case you have specific requirements. Potato cakes - yum. Home made, not bought frozen packed. You can tell because the sizes vary so much - however, if you happen to get a small potato cake they will always give you 2 potato cakes to make up for the non-uniform portion sizes. Quick service, fresh, hot food, dine-in (with small selection of alcoholic beverages available) or take-away (why not take to the nearby Fitzroy Gardens and sit on the lawn) what more could you want. Highly recommend.

Had a ping for fish n chips. Loved the food~ although the mussels were on the small side . A little disappointed that my order for no salt and extra lemon turned into a little salt and just one lemon. Would definitely go back, and try for 5 stars~ just a bit more lemon guys and no salt!

One of the best fish and chips, the meat of fish is very rich and juicy. I also love all kiwi drinks sold here. When I shop at IGA nearby, I often stop by this shop for lunch and/or dinner :)

Very nice service with excellent attitude! We arrived 10 minutes before they closed at 9pm on Saturday night . The owner chef did not only refuse my order but also allowed me to place order and dine in the restaurant. Everything was cooked to perfection. Chips were crispy and in large quantities. Fish fillets were juicy and tender ! Very good experience!

Chips are very nice here, best chips I've had. The flake I had was nicely cooked but found it a little small. $15 minimum for Eftpos so got charged extra 50c which I wasn't happy about. Should be able to go into a decent sized shop and order fish and chips with a credit card and not pay surcharge on top.

After walking past Kiwi on the way to walk, I finally decided to try it for lunch. The owner's kids where helping out while they are on school holidays. They were well mannered and helpful! There was a great number of choices of fish. For $12.40 I got Fresh Gummy Flake, salad, chips and a drink for $12.40.

Arrived melbourne thursday morning, checked into my apartment & jumped on yelped to see what was good for lunch and this place popped up. Even in Sydney there isn't many Kiwi fish & chip shops.. haven't had a bad one yet & this one had some really good reviews so had to hit this place up :)!! As soon as i walked in it was a friendly Asian guy working behind the counter who greeted me, I'm a guy who always has to study the menu so i walk out satisfied haha!! I was like is there a favourite & he was like the fish of the day is always popular :), that day was Spot Trevally which i haven't had in yonks, got a greek salad, Kamara chips (like sweet potato) & a L&P can :D!! If i can remember wright for the lot it was just under or just over $30 cause i got a packet of cheese Curlies & cheese n bacon Rashuns :D. Waiting time was about 10 - 15 minutes, you become an expert at counting the waiting time when your hungry :)!! Without a doubt the Trevally was on point for taste same with the greek salad :), i left the Kamara chips & L&P last.. for every sip 1 chip :D!!.. the chips were definately the highlight cause i can't remember the last time i had them!! The chips and drink were a bit more expensive as per usual but when they dont sell them at normal supermarkets you buy them when you see them :)!! Whenever I'm back in Melbourne I'm definitely coming back for a feed even if it's just for the Chips :D.

I just finished off one off Sunny's awesome fish paddy with garden and sweet chilli sauce. Amazing, filling and light , so refreshing. The staff knows my favorite kiwi burger with the lot on facacia roll- its a massive and completely satisfying meal. The way to attack it, is to slowly eat at the edges and work your way in. If you love a wholesome beefy REAL burger - you must ask for the burger that Kellee gets! Its awesome.
