My rating star increases as long as the staff keep sending the dishes to the table. The decorations is no doubt 5 star but space was little bit narrow in the restaurant. This is an Asian style fine dining. When I firstly looked at the menu I found how greedy the restaurant is charging way too high for those daily common Chinese cuisine. We ordered the Lion’s head meat ball, the beef tongue, the beef tartare, the rice noodles roll and the steamed fish. There are reasons why the food worth their price. Their lion’s head flavored super traditional even better than those Chinese chefs restaurant. The beef tartare has also flavored as Thai style with veggies to decrease the hot feeling. Must try! The steamed fish is friendly to those who cannot spit fish bone properly. The restaurant has altered the dishes flavored to make them suitable for costumers from anywhere. Super special. Recommended

Came here for Valentines Day dinner and it was really good. We particularly enjoyed the smoked tiger prawns with shellfish vinaigrette and barramundi in hunan chilli dressing. We would get the shellfish vinaigrette and put it on all our dishes. Slightly disappointed with the steamed egg custard which probably is their rendition of chiwamushi - the egg custard was not silky enough to our liking and it could probably be more flavourful with more dashi stock. The sticky rice was very dry and I like my glutinous rice moist and sticky (as the name goes) so that was not a very fulfilling dish.

We dined as a larger group on Wednesday evening and what a treat! The service was warm, knowledgeable and attentive with exceptional bespoke cocktails and thoughtful wine list. Our dietary requirements were handled with ease and a smile. The portions were more than generous and ever so delicious. My third visit this year. Every visit surpasses the previous. Perfectly paced, warm and genuine service delivered by friendly people. Dishes are executed and seasoned perfectly, the food leaves you wanting more and more. The space is intimate with beautiful lighting and always has a great vibe. Perfect for any occasion. A wonderful dining experience from the moment we were greeted at the door to the farewell at the close of the evening. The dining room is sleek, well-appointed, intimately lit, and comfortable. The music selection was great and the ambient background noise of the open kitchen and bar only add to the energy and atmosphere of the room. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, friendly, and they worked with both humour and efficiency - warm, genuine hospitality. They offered excellent guidance across both the food and beverage menus, and did so deftly and confidently. All our dietary requirements were managed with ease and clarity. The food was, simply put, utterly delicious. Starting with snacks and then moving on to slightly larger items before our mains, each plate that hit the table was a revelation, so tasty and flavoursome. The only thing that stopped us from doubling-down and ordering even more food was our very full bellies. Needless to say, we left very full, very happy, truly replete and satiated. We will certainly be back. Cannot recommend more highly.

Went there for my birthday dinner and it was a great choice. Eventhough, there are not many dishes to choose from but what we had were all delicious. My favourite dish was mapo tofu. Well seasoneing, good mixed of texture of soft tofu and crump crispy chicken skin on top. It was so so good. I would lick the plate if i can! Service was friendly and the staff are very attentive. Would definitely come back for another special occasion.

This was my second time here, came this time for my friends birthday. Like the first time I was blown away. The food looks as good as it tastes, I wanted to keep eating but I was so full by the end. The restaurant has a feed me option which I highly recommend as you get as taste for a lot of different things which is great. The vibe is really nice and the restaurant is not huge which makes you feel special and gives the restaurant a personal and intimate feeling. I would definitely recommend coming here if you want to have a nice dinner out, the menu changes on a regular basis I believe so it’s a new experience each time. Definitely excited to come back here when I have a chance to. 100% deserving of 5 stars! :)

Excellent dining experience late Friday night. My partner and I shared a feed me menu. Vegetarian-friendly; pescatarian-friendly, with a great emphasis on chili. Some of the best Chinese food I've eaten in Melbourne! Strongly recommend.

Lagoon Dining is one of those rare restaurants which retains the Chinese culinary traditions yet able to deliver something extraordinary by combining the right elements. We ordered (1) Smashed cucumber with black fungus, (2) Hot & numbing beef tartare with Chinese doughnut, (3) Rolled rice noodles & pork belly, and (4) Charcoal roasted char siu. All the dishes were flavoursome and hit the right notes for our senses. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening within its bustling atmosphere. Service was attentive and polite.

Average experience, which is disappointing given the mostly positive reviews. We dined with a group of 8 and had the set menu. The positives were that the food was delicious, flavoursome and generous portions. The staff were also very accommodating for dietary requirements. Negatives: Extremely narrow venue and difficult to accommodate a pram (the staff seemed visibly irritated by the presence of a pram, which was a bit uncomfortable however they didn't offer any alternative solutions). $5 cakeage fee per person. Have no issue with a cakeage fee however most comparable restaurants are $10 per table or $2.50 per person. $5 per person seems excessive to me for large groups. Serving staff seemed generally disinterested and a bit short and abrupt. The exception to this was one of the chefs who brought out a pork dish and was lovely. We could have informed the venue prior to attending that we would have a young child for our 6pm booking, however they could have been more accommodating and not made us feel so unwelcome or inconvenient.

What a breath of fresh air! This restaurant positions itself in a somewhat semi-fine dine serving asian fusion dishes. The difference is that they execute the dishes really well! The cucumber dish is seasoned with vinegar and sesame seed which makes it very refreshing. The lamb is fragrant and juicy. The stir fry cabbage have that charcoal flavour infused to the dish. Awesome food! I'd been wanting to go here since I read about it last year and finally got the chance when the kids were away. This is modern stylish Chinese food. Reminded me a bit of the old Ricky and Pinky. Everyone dish we had was great, though I must say the flavours are on the strong (salty) side, which I love. Good thing I work just around the corner, cause I can definitely see this place as a regular :)

Ambience and the foods are amazing. Top notch. I also ordered a cocktail which personally just okay. I would definitely come back for the courses/degustation but apologies for the cocktails. Beef Tartare was marvellous and you’ll not regret that.

Delicious Asian fusion with a relaxed atmosphere! The food was like refined Asian without seeming pretentious, and the service was very welcoming. The tastiest lockdown dinner I've had so far! High end contemporary Chinese food without they exorbitant price tag. The beef short rib, and rolled rice noodles are especially recommended!! Their own hot sauce, which Lagoon sell by the bottle is excellent too!

Definitely go for the feed me option, 5 if you're hungry-ish, 7 if you're really hungry! Either course will leave you a happy person with a big tum because it is delicious. PS, tell staff to tone down spice (chilli) if you don't tolerate spice. Personally, love it.

Nice and cozy little spot in Carlton. Asian fusion with bit of Japanese and chinese influence. Had a few starters, school prawns were nice, fried chicken was bit on the salty side. The raw dishes (kingfish and beef tatare) were really nice. Out of the 3 mains steam eggplant, steam fish and charsiu, the fish was the winner but not taking anything away from the other 2. Also added the special side okra with the housemade XO sauce 👍. Would recommend.

Absolutely incredible. The flavours are subtle yet pack-a-punch. We tried a number of dishes but the standouts for me were the popcorn chicken (seriously good), the raw fish and smashed cucumber. The atmosphere is great and the staff friendly, this is a place you feel confident recommending!

Given my Chinese heritage I came in with no expectation, but this place really impressed. Elevating homey ingredients like mui choy (preserved vegetables) with a nod to its traditional method. Lagoon Dining is a fresh, classy take on modern dining. We had the ‘feed me’ menu and really enjoyed every single dish. Each dish had distinct and subtle flavours, we especially loved the hot and sour shredded potato, pork and cabbage dumplings, and the charcoal roasted Char Siu. Our vegetarian diner loved the Ma Po tofu. The service was excellent and our meal was beautifully paired with good wines recommended by our waiter. The restaurant interior is modern, fresh and welcoming. Highly recommend

Very impressed by the food. Got to sit at the bar and could observe the very well oiled machine happening in the kitchen. Pretty amazing considering the restaurant is only newly open. Great flavours, creative ideas. Well priced too so you really get bang for your buck. Will 100% be back and highly recommend.

Calling this place 'just' a Chinese restaurant undersells it. The food is exquisite and it's clear that chefs Keat and Ned along with their dedicated kitchen crew put in a lot of passion and care into their creations. Every bite is flavorful. Love the beef tartare and the short ribs! The cocktails are all excellent. Front of house staff led by Chris are attentive, friendly and professional as well. Overall it has a relaxed, hip Melbourne vibe but with the quality of upper end restaurants; a place where you can enjoy fine dining quality food but not have to worry too much about a suit jacket or the bill!

Triple threat - great food, great service, great atmosphere! We made an impromptu booking on the day and were lucky enough to be seated at the kitchen table, watching chefs busily prepare the dishes before landing on the pass. It also gave us an opportunity to chat to Keat and Ned and tell them what an amazing experience we were having. It was hard to believe that they had only been open a week or so. Definitely already operating like a well-oiled machine. We both agreed that it was one of the best meals we have had in a while - and that's saying a lot considering we love dining out. Already looking forward to returning and working our way through the rest of the menu.

I eat out a lot and being Asian, I have fairly high standard with Asian/Asian fusion food. Overall, the food is ok... tasty but too salty! Needed to order extra rice and drink extra water! By the way, don’t know why the white rice is called Japanese rice because it doesn’t taste like what you get in Japan or at Japanese restaurants. Short grain rice is not always Japanese! Also, long wait for the fish after the initial dishes. More disappointing for me was the amount of bubbly I got served for a $14 glass of NV Holly’s Garden Uberbrut... the waiter insisted it was 120ml... so, this is a standard size 180ml flute... looks more like 90ml to me! Ah well, won’t be rushing back as there are so many good restaurants in Melbourne!
