It was a mixed bag for me. It started brilliantly with the starter of chicken and corn croquette. This was my first time eating a croquette, and it exceeded my expectations. The texture, the flavour, the presentation, all five stars. The mains were where things let me down. I had a medium well eye fillet. The steak itself was amazing, cooked to perfection, super tender, superb flavour. But the sides of onion and chips made the whole dish looked very cheap, especially the fact the chips were thin cut. My partner has a lamb rump. The lamb was a lot rawer than what we liked each to be. The sides were very salty. The only good thing about this dish was the portion, which was very generous. Thankfully the meal ended superbly with the Tiramisu. Perfect dessert to share for two, fantastic presentation, rich flavour. The service was also great, all the staffs were very friendly. I would have rated 4.5 stars overall if I can, but definitely not 5. So I can only give it a 4.

This spot is magnificent! The staff was fantastic and the nourishment was splendid. Bunches of decisions yet can suggest the eye filet, rosemary potatoes, and seared cauliflower. Simple to get to with loads of stopping close by and they offer bunches of treats or you can go for a short walk after supper along the water as there are heaps of spots to snatch some sweet. Can get somewhat smoky inside as the steaks are cooked in the cafe before you yet it disperses rapidly. The incredible eating background in an extraordinary spot!

This place is awesome! The staff were excellent and the food was brilliant. Lots of choices but can definitely recommend the eye fillet, rosemary potatoes and fried cauliflower. Easy to get to with lots of parking nearby and they offer lots of dessert or you can take a short stroll after dinner along the water as there's lots of places to grab some dessert. Can get a little smoky inside as the steaks are cooked in the middle of the restaurant in front of you but it dissipates quickly. Excellent dining experience in a great spot!!!

Came by for dinner as we had just come from the Southbank DFO. It is one of the many restaurants lining the river in this area. We had options of sitting inside or out, and we opted for in. The outside area was on the riverside so it is quite a nice place to eat if it's not too hot. Quite a few food options, both for meat eaters and non-meat eaters. I had the grilled corn and the halloumi skewers. We were seated next to the grill and it was nice watching the chefs grilling and then dressing the food. The food was tasty but thought it was on the pricey side. Unsurprisingly, it is suited for carnivores.

Honestly pretty overpriced for what you get. We visited for lunch and the place was not busy. The initial service was good and no real complaints here. Food wise it was very disappointing and then when coupled with the price it just makes it not worth it. I do not recommend their burgers, you could do better at home, in fact I'm pretty sure the buns they use are just the cheap tear away buns found at Coles. Other people I was with ordered the salmon and a steak both were ok but nothing that amazing. Overall I left disappointed in the food, when I looked at the menu and the prices I was expecting great tasting food but what we got was not anywhere near worth the cost.

Meat Market South Wharf is a great restaurant with stunning views of Melbourne. My meal was cooked to perfection and would easily get 5 stars with a few minor adjustments. The wagu burger patty had shrunk which made the burger look odd - flavour was "on point". The fries were an interesting pairing as I was expecting something more rustic - the real odd part was the inclusion of a small bowl of tomato sauce. I would have expected a small selection of sauces to choose from but this did not happen when ordering. Apart from these minor flaws, I'd happily return the next time I'm in town.

What a wonderful place for dinner, overlooking the water at South Wharf. They have a large ambient and welcoming dining area inside. Also it boasts a covered, heated outdoor dining area which is great for colder weather. The food was spectacular, with beautiful wine to match your meal. Fabulous winter dinner, amazing chefs. Eye fillet was tender...bernaise was more like a knob of butter than a proper bernaise...side of beans and cauliflower were really tasty. Dessert of choice was the chocolate fondant...meant to come with coffee ice cream, served with vanilla...they did bring us the coffee ice cream eventually, a little too late though. Over all was good meal, wouldn't rave about it but was pleasant.

Great place to have lunch. Unfortunately our waiter got our initial order wrong, it was his first day, but we were on holidays and did not mind at all. They proceeded to sort us out with complimentary drinks and side dishes, so was happy with the service. Steak was cooked as asked, I got the rib eye bone in. This was our second visit here, the first being shortly after it opened about 7 years ago maybe? Overall we liked it and will return again!

Meat Market. What a great place, fantastic food and good beer. Recently went to this place with 2 work colleagues. We shared a tomahawk steak (1.2 kg ) with salads. I asked for it to be cooked medium rare as my colleagues didn’t mind. What a treat !!! It was cooked exactly the way I like it and all 3 of us enjoyed it. We were persuaded to try a slice of vegan cheesecake. It was delicious. A 1.2kg steak and a slice of vegan cheesecake with some Kosciuszko pale ale. It was a memorable meal.

Great food, service and atmosphere! The food is perfectly prepared and presented, good portions and reasonably priced (especially for Melbourne). The staff are pleasant and attentive. The restaurant is well designed with lots of character, the outdoor seating area has a great view of the city and unintrusive atmosphere ideal for more intimate occasions. The indoor area is lively and great for groups. Good variety of drinks. My experience has been consistent and enjoyable across a number of visits.

I went here recently with a group from work and was very impressed by the food. The steak in particular was perfectly cooked and some of the best I've had for ages. I walked in here with my family to celebrate my sister's and brother's birthday. We had no booking and decided to eat here spur of the moment. It was honestly one of the most amazing meals I have ever had. I recommend ordering the gnocchi and the fried cauliflower, they were both astoundingly delicious. The drinks menu is wonderful, I had some delicious and unique bottled beers, whilst my sister had some truly excellent cocktails. The staff are friendly and attentive. You will love it here.

An interesting and reasonably well executed restaurant that's just lacking on value. Ate with a group and had their "one in all in" banquet. Meals were quite well executed but just felt that for the price they were stingy on portions such that many of our group had only a few fork fills of each dish. Room for improvement. Would have been much better value to order separately.

Lovely fast friendly service, gourmet food, lovely view, nice decor, comfortable seats. My wife and I were not feeling particularly well on our business trip to Melbourne and we went for something simple. I ordered the salmon confit my wife the champagne soaked prawn cocktail. Both of us were unimpressed. The prawn taste was drowned by a sharp champagne taste, so strong my wife sent it back, but the kitchen said it was the champagne marinade. My salmon was tasteless but the sauce was lovely, and it came with no sides. The waitress was so friendly and helpful but had not been long in Australia and could not understand our complaint but a more experienced manager came to our aid. Unfortunately our bill was charged with the last customers' bottle of wine and if I hadn't noticed we would have got charged $28.80 instead of $9.50 for our 1 litre bottle of delicious sparkling spring water: and in the mix up we got charged twice for the prawn cocktail. I think our waitress needed more training on the computer system. I wouldn't think this would be a regular occurrence but hiring temporary staff during the Christmas period can be a minefield. We will not write them off but will visit them next time and try again.

The service here was slow to be seated, I was waiting for 5 minutes and the place was empty, eventually a waiter came over and said the maitre d would be with me soon but the place was half empty, I'm not sure why he couldn't have seated me. Once seated the service improved steak was as expected for the price, the kingfish was overpowered with citrus however but I could easily remove this from the fish and it was great otherwise.

We held our annual Staff Christmas party here at the Meat Market this year and cannot recommend this venue highly enough. The food was exceptional and plenty of it, the staff were very professional and always attentive to our needs with our glasses always kept topped up. The atmosphere was calm and pleasant with the ability to hold conversations without losing your voice. The venue is amazing, we booked the promenade area and found that the view of the river and city a wonderful background to our yearly celebrations. Our thanks to the staff at the Meat Market for a wonderful evening, we will definitely be back!!!

Went to the Meat Market to get the Wednesday special, signs up everywhere about the special, then like Neo in the matrix get told there IS no special...okay, so we still order the steaks only for them to come out overcooked. You would think a restaurant that advertises themselves as the meat market would be able to cook a decent steak. Anyway, I still ate it and it still tasted good, and I would still recommend it provided you don't want the special and you order your steak 2 levels rarer than you normally would.

Previously made a one star review here. Wow, what a difference feedback makes. Since sharing our thoughts we have been served by a new venue manager who is an absolute delight. He remembers us, remembers our orders, water and wine preferences and manages the table like this is a fine dining restaurant. As always the other wait staff are polite and quick.

Service was lovely and polite but the goodness certainly not up to the price point. Burgers came missing ingredients and were just average. The venue was certainly nice but you're better off trying another nearby venue over this one.

3.5 Star. After the negative reviews observed we went and made our own judgment. The service was nice and attentive however not rushed to get you out in a hurry. I wouldn't say it was significantly slow as suggested. The calamari was tender, chicken lollipops were succulent and spicy and the special lamb ribs just fell off the bone. We would go back especially for the burger training course.

A classy restaurant for all your meaty needs. Definitely on the classy side of food so you'll be paying a bit more for the food but it's definitely worth the taste. Staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is really cosy and homey like a wood cabin filled that's used as a wine cellar, can't say that's in anyway a bad thing. If your in the market for meat, the meat market is for you.

I went for lunch and it took a long time to get served or even get a menu after I was seated. I have been here in past years although for dinner and had much better service. I was not offered a drinks menu and had to go fetch one for myself. The food was the saving grace still solid although the service has gotten quite bad compared to prior years.

The restaurant got very smoky to the point where tears were gathering in our eyes. Had to ask the wait staff to open the doors to try air the restaurant out. No aircon which was quite painful on a 36degree evening, especially with the open kitchen. Food was okay. The menu has changed, to the detriment of the consumer. A number of amazing dishes have disappeared. This was our third visit to the meat market. We probably won't be returning, sadly.

Great food and a good atmosphere. Called and asked for a reservation and they said they were full and we were taking a chance at a table. We show up and the place is barely half full at 7:30 on a Monday. The service was slow and confusing. Brought my family there and waited to take our order for 20 minutes and then went to the bar to order. At that point the bar tender advised sitting and waiting at the table for our server. Waited another 20 minutes for the server even though multiple servers had walked by. We would have ordered a few more rounds of beer if asked. We found it easier to ask for our check and get beers somewhere else. Would recommend based on the food, but I would warn of the slow or no real existence of service.

Meat Market South Wharf The Meat Market South Wharf located on the city fringe towards Docklands. The location is great, however inconvenient for those traveling via public transport. The restaurant/bar is clean and modern with an open view of the Yarra River with an average cost of $25p/p for a simple meal and drink. The dishes we've tried was the Wilderness beef minute steak with Café de Paris butter and shoe string fries and Classic Black Angus Cheeseburger with Swiss cheese, caramelised onions, pickles and fries. The dishes itself were bland, with limited range of sauce and seasoning. We were disappointed in the quality of our food, noticeably the sauce being quite runny and watery whilst the mains being quite greasy. Our overall experience was positive, however for the price, there are other options available within the area.

Tom, Sam and the Meat Marketeers are most fortunate to have Emily on their team. She excels in all areas of hospitality oriented customer service and is very swift in getting things done. We were particularly impressed with her respect and time to given to the senior citizens dining alongside us, something that we see less and less of these days. The service complimented the food on this occasion, though we assure you that's not a bad thing 💁🏽‍♂️🌟💁🏼‍♀️ That food though. Double lamb chops basking gloriously 'twixt a lake of red onion jus, with pontoons of sweet potatoes bobbing merrily alongside (I swear we only had one glass of red wine each 😏) A dark chocolate fortress of fondant, adorned with spires of almond brittle comprised half of our shared dessert. The second innings hit us for six straight into a sticky mess of date pudding and vanilla ice cream. Ohhhh yessss. We totally resonate with the kind of commerce being transacted at the Meat Market. These two humble merchants shall return!

This is an exceptional place to eat we had a private room the beef is spectacular oh my God it's so good I grow beef and have my own farm mate this place is tremendous a must try while in Melbourne and the wine list as good just spectacular
