We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here. We chose the four dish feed me option and the food was really lovely. Quality and presentation was excellent with terrific flavour. The wine list is a good one too and we had no problem choosing a few beauties. Service was terrific throughout. Most efficient and friendly but never intrusive. Conclusion: it’s a very good restaurant. We would happily return anytime.

Every single dish was absolute perfection and the service was top notch. Pentolina now falls within my top 5 dining experiences in Melbourne.
The rustic feel of the restaurant and ability to watch the chef’s in action through the glass screen made the experience even better.

We chanced upon Pentolina as it’s tucked away in a lane way, but we were so happy we found this place! The pasta was so amazing and fresh, and the wine was beautiful. The staff were also very friendly and attentive.

Every part of our meal was exquisite, prepared and presented in such a way that each course stopped conversation at the table (and we're Italian so it's hard to get us to be quiet!). Stand outs were the octopus entree, arancini balls and tomato mozzarella salad.
Mario and the team were super welcoming and recommended us great wines.

Had a wonderful dinner here last night with friends. Such a beautiful warm atmosphere with the team going above and beyond with service. The food was absolutely fabulous - oysters, terrine, pasta, duck, gnocchi, salads, tiramisu - it was all amazing and to finish a small treat from the team to show their appreciation of the support during tough times! Unbelievable meal, set menu was curated beautifully and nothing but perfection food wise, massive thank you to the head chef for that. A unique experience, Pentolina is astounding. From entre to desert, the flavours in each dish were rich, profound and perfectly balanced.
The pasta, beautifully prepared and always the hero of the plate. The 'swallows nest' and 'strangled priest' pastas were especially noteworthy!
The chefs are absolute masters of their art. The inviting wait staff had an excellent flow with the kitchen and our dishes were well paced throughout the night.
To top it off the limoncello and chocolate deserts were delectable!
In these Covid times, Pentolina transported me back to my time in Italy and rekindled all those fond memories.
It was a pleasure to dine here. Thank you to the chef and all the staff!

Had the set menu at Pentolina. Food was not bad but portions were tiny , seems to be halved , my partner and I left hungry and had to find other food alternatives after we left... Even after paying so much for their "feed me" menu.

I had dinner at Pentolina last night with a friend and we had the best time. Our waitress, a young Italian woman, was so enthusiastic and passionate about the food it was wonderful to see! When it arrived we could see why - every mouthful was absolutely delicious. Carpaccio, stuffed courgette flowers then gnocchi and tiny little ravioli with lobster. This is a modest, cool, small restaurant serving truly authentic Italian food made with love. I'll be telling everyone and will definitely be back!

What an incredible experience! The $65 set menu was absolutely DELICIOUS - with a bunch of entrees (each one better than the last) and the perfectly harmonized flavours in each pasta... SO GOOD! The beetroot gnocchi was a standout for me (doesn't sound like it'll be great but it is delectable) - and you HAVE to get the slow cooked trout entree just to experience the melt in the mouth experience. Honourable mentions to the beef carpaccio and the "strangled priest" pasta... Finishing it off with a beautiful Bombe Alaska... amazing!
Service was very pleasant and sitting at the bar in front of the kitchen is a must - watching how everything works in the kitchen helped to while away the time between dishes. The ambiance is lovely and perfect for a date night or a catchup with friends over wine and pasta.

Well Located and easily accessible this place is quite unassuming. Nestled well within Melbournes chic restaurant area I would certainly give this place a go. We didn’t have a booking but they certainly accommodated us and made our experience a casual yet special one.
The olives are amazing. The zucchini flowers simply yum!
Their bread with olive oil is just as European as it gets. Try the cheese platter ...simply yum!!

A nice place to have a good Italian meal. The pasta is made fresh and the food has a good taste. The place has a good seating numbers and can host a large crowd. The bar is well stocked and also they have a good selection of cocktails.

Small intimate restaurant serving fresh pasta with fresh ingredients. The service is great and quick. Portion is on the smaller side though. The Tagliolini have really fresh seafood in it however there are no much flavour overall. Would be perfect for either a quick bite or if you planning to spend a romantic dinner with your loved one.

A family owned restaurant with fresh pasta made on-site, we were curious to try here since the owner worked at Pellegrini's.
My Fusili with shredded duck leg was tasty and plentiful. Al dente pasta is not for me but the distinct flavours and tenderness of the well-cooked duck made up for it. Another friend enjoyed the simple flavours of her pumpkin Agnolotti with sage and balsamic. Dessert was an undoubted highlight, with the beautifully presented Semifreddo winning our votes.
Friendly and attentive service on a not too busy night. There weren't enough people to create much of an ambiance. The ample bar seating is reminiscent of Pellegrini's while the colour scheme gives the place it's own feel.

My family and I stumbled upon this place on a cold winter’s evening. We ordered the Skinny Chef (feed me option from the menu), where the chef decides on 3 appetizers and 2 pastas for you. The arancini balls were scrumptious and the caprese was refreshing. The pastas were of course the highlight of the meal. We were served the pappardelle ragu and chestnut pasta with asparagus, pecorino and porcini mushrooms. Our daughter wolfed down her pasta in record time. Amazing food, and service to match. A must visit in Melbourne!

Oh My Goodness !! If this isn't the best pasta out there than I don't know what is.
My partner had the pasta with the ragu and I had the spinach and ricotta ravioli. For entrees we shared the salt and pepper squid with ink mayo and 2 of the arancini 🤤🤤 honestly could have had about 10 more. Everything was so light and even after eating all that we didn't feel bloated, the pasta was so smooth like silk and super light.
Dessert I had the white chocolate parfait with some sauce, to be completely honest I wasn't a fan. I found it to be pretty sweet but also bland and with our expectations risen from the entree and main we definitely didn't get that with the dessert unfortunately 💔
My partner got the icecream with coffee and frangelico and loved that.
I'll definitely go back when I'm in Melbourne again but perhaps skip the dessert next time.

Excellent contemporary Italian restaurant with amazing pastas owned by chef Matthew. Pentolina is superb - scallops, prawns, etc cooked in cream brandy. A bit more pricey than the other dishes but worth every single penny. Tried radiccio which is a kind of slightly bitter lettuce - looks like porcini mushroom, it has a nice bitter earthy flavour (think artichoke). And of course the humble Bolognese pasta, which chef Matthew has skilfully flavoured with a light touch of vermouth. The pasta fait-a-la-maison is so sublimely made and delightfully cooked al dente. It only opened 2 weeks ago, so furnishings are new. Service by manager Philippe is excellent too.

My new favourite pasta bar. The spaghetti alle vongole was seriously one of the best I've had in Melbourne - generous serving of clams, and beautifully cooked pasta. Service was very friendly. I've always wondered why there is a lack of decent affordable pasta places in Melbourne. Pentolina finally provides that option with delicious fresh pasta.

Deceptive restaurant located around the corner on little Collins. I ordered the beetroot gnocchi with gorgonzola, pears and macadamia. I'm not usually a blue cheese fan but this was so beautiful and light, and the gnocchi just melted in your mouth. The pear added a hint of sweetness to cut through the cheese, and beautifully roasted macadamias brought it all together. Paired with a Lavender Spritz.
My friend ordered the Nettle gnocchi special with ragu and was very happy with the quality of the meal.
Service was prompt and efficient and food came out so quickly! We stayed around to chat and didn't feel rushed out at all, thank you for a great evening.

Lovely Crocchetta di baccala to start (salted cod & potato croquette), finger bit size (as listed on the menu) Ask for recommendation, took the most popular dish Pappardelle (beef bolognaise) for main. The pasta was so fresh and the sauce just … YUM!
Sampled a 'Godfather' – Monkey Shoulders whiskey, disaronno amaretto, maraschino cherry, and orange. As it was lunch on a cold June day, warm my insides just right. The only thing is I have decided that I’m not a fan of the big ball ice cubes. They keep hitting my teeth.
Only looked at the first line of the dessert menu – didn't read any further, saving other desserts for next time. Went the Bombe Alaska for dessert – layers of pistachio, vanilla gelato, raspberry sorbet, on almond dacquoise, cover with perfect meringue. Worth the visit just for the dessert

Pentolina is such a charming restaurant tucked in one of the laneways on Little Collins St.
This was my first dinner there. I was struggling to book online because i didn’t have a valid credit card with me so I rang them instead to book a table. The owner was so lovely. She called me back after hour and got me a table.
Our dining experience was brilliant. My friend and I were blown away by the home made pasta. My gnocchi was to die for, light, delicious and full of flavour. Her buckwheat rigatoni was super tasty. We were also in love with the arancini. We will definitely be back again.

We had left dinner rather late on a Friday night, called this place up and they said no problem we will prepare a table for you.
Arrived about 11pm to very warm and welcoming staff. As late as it was we never felt rushed to place our orders and the waiter ever spent the time to go through the entire menu for you. We ordered a mixture of dishes and everything came out promptly and everything taste amazing!

We visited Pentolina as part of our staycay in Melbourne CBD only to have our weekend cancelled by another covid lockdown with hours notice, we were still able to attend our reservation at this beautiful pasta bar, thank goodness!
We had such a lovely experience. We dined as a family with our 3 children (one being an infant) and we were made to feel extremely welcomed and looked after.
The service was very hospitatable, my fussy daughter was accommodated with her pasta request and our food was timely and well presented.
We were thrilled to see 'caccio e pepe' on the menu (one of our favourites) and the pasta was cooked properly 'al dente '
We were given an extra treat throughout our meal and we were so grateful.
From the antipasti through to the dessert we ate on the street we loved everything about this place + their food.
The cannoli was the crunchiest + freshest we'd had in a long time and the ricotta filling was a m a z i n g - I sent my husband back in to compliment the chef.

All the pasta is made by the chef who is from Emilia Romagna, an Italian region where pasta is a serious matter!
We loved the baccalà croquettes, the swordfish carpaccio which is amazing, the vongole spaghetti alla chitarra and the gnocchi with rabbit white Ragù, the lamb, so tender, juicy, matched with an Italian salad dressed with a delicious juice.
And the service was perfection, elegant but warm at the same time.

My meal didn’t have any flavour so didn’t eat it and the pasta was meant to be seafood but there was not much in there at all felt like it was plain pasta with heaps of oil. I also got charged full price even though my meal was untouched which was pretty disappointing. The dessert and glass of wine was nice though.

We were a table of 4 and visited mid week for dinner just after lockdown was lifted and restaurants were allowed to have 20 patrons in the venue. On arrival there was a large bottle of hand sanitizer and also a clipboard for us to write our details on. We were shown to our table and we were definitely adhering to social distancing rules with adequate space between each table. It was quite eerie being in a city restaurant that was so quiet but that was not Pentolina’s fault. The service was attentive and efficient, the food was delicious if on the small side. We ordered dishes to share, arancini balls to start off with which was the perfect texture, temperature and flavor, you can really taste the porcini and truffle. We also had a celeriac dish which was quite different but very tasty, the celeriac was a lovey crunchy texture and the accompanying purée was perfect for it. For the pasta course we had the Spoia Lorda which tasted of the sea, very nice and the tortelli which had a pumpkin, pine mushroom and hazelnut filling which was sweet and unusual but delicious all the same. For mains we had the lamb and pork dishes, again very tasty and all components worked well together just wish we had bigger portions. We would probably have ordered a third pasta or main dish in hindsight. The Negronis were made very well, although initially we were after dirty martinis but they didn’t have the correct olives in stock but that can be due to them reopening after the lockdown period.

I dined here last week. The menu is simple and high quality. It is perhaps the best pasta I’ve ever had. Home made with fresh ingredients. I had the parpadelle which was superb. The wine list was terrific although I didn’t need it because I asked the owner (Mario) to bring out a nice medium red. It was so good we had 3 bottles. The restaurant is suitable for lunch or dinner with work, family or friends. I’ll be back quite regularly I’d imagine.

We went to Pentolina to celebrate our son's 10th birthday. The food and the service were both excellent. The food was delicious and rustic but sophisticated. Their Coffin Bay oysters were super fresh and delicate. The zucchini flowers with buffalo riccotta were sumptuous. The rabbit ravioli with crispy sage and pecorino sauce was incredible!
Prior to coming here, The European was our go to italian restaurant. This is as good, if not better. Highly receommend :)

Wow! Had the pleasure of eating here for lunch on Friday 24/Jan/2020 with a work colleague. I had the gnocchi with seafood sauce and my colleague had tagletelli pasta with Italian sausage sauce. The size of the dish was exactly perfect for lunch, all about quality and not quantity (and they did not scrimp either, the size was exactly perfect). The pasta is made on premises. The gnocchi were the smaller sized (size of your thumb from your nail to the top), with a fluffy texture (still can’t stop thinking about them, even now). And the perfect amount of seafood in this dish.
The staff were so attentive.
I will be returning, perhaps for dinner, so I can spend a little more time here and have dessert.

The pasta is very, very good - apparently made fresh in-house. Service was good and efficient, too. Nice wine list with enough options by the glass at modest prices. The dining room looks good; I found the seats a little firm, even for my ample seat. There’s one bathroom, unisex, by the cash register. You can “spend a penny” and pay your bill concurrently.
I’d go back again, just not in a hurry. As delicious as the food is, the ambience isn’t quite my vibe. And competition for great Italian fare is high in Melbourne right now.

I was lucky to be sitting on a stool next to the pass where all the action happens. Started with a negroni, followed by a couple of stuzzichini, 2 entrees, 2 Pastas, cheese and finally a dessert to share with my friend. (All matched with wine)
You can taste the freshness of the ingredients and the pastas which are all made in house. Matched with a nice selection of wines by the glass.

Came here with a few friends for lunch on a weekday; This place has the most amazing customer service, the staff here definitely went above and beyond. We were recommended the Fiore Di Zucchine, Crocchetta Di Baccala and Acciuga Del Cantabrico for entrees from the chef, we would normally not have ordered these dishes but glad we tried! The salted caramel cocktail is definitely a must to try as well! We had Fusilli All’Amatriciana and Ravioli Di Mauro for the mains, the dishes was cooked to perfection. For desserts, we had the Delizia Al Cioccolato Fondente and Parfait al Cioccolato Bianco and needless to say, it was delicious! Definitely going back again 👍🏽

Don’t have bar seating if your head chef is going to be abusive towards other staff members. It’s a bad look for the restaurant and promotes a poor working culture. Don’t care how “stressful” your job is it’s not nice to see people treated that way.
