Comments of Pho Thin Australia (Pho Thin 13 Lo Duc MELBOURNE)
A. G.
Come to this small alley with lots of small eatery place. The self service pho comes to my attention as it has huge crowd during lunch hour . We came here around 2pm to avoid the crowd. Squeezing place with no social distancing for sure.. ordered the beef and chicken pho. Price at $15.5 a bowl : quite expensive in Asia standard but probably no choice in Australia. Food taste authentic both for beef and chicken pho. The coffee was nice but rather too sweet for me. Ordered your food and wait to be served . We ordered extra beef ball but at $6 a bowl.. too much. Our lunch cost $42 AUD! 🤩
T.
A big fan of Northern style Pho and been to Thin when it first arrived to Melbourne. However, its been going down it’s quality. The broth soup tastes quite plain and not hot enough, noodles texture is a bit hard and stick together, Stir-fried beef has good flavour tho.
J. C.
My favorite pho in the town.
Must order the donut ,soak it in the soup for 5 minutes and dip it with garlic and chili sauce. That’s why ppl always say the best pho is always in the Melbourne 👍🏻
F. K.
Northern style pho! The broth is complex and hard to place, a soothing, comforting lunch. We wanted to get “young eggs” in the pho was they ran out! A must try with the fried dough sticks! Its how its meant to be eaten! Though the dough was a bit squishy after being fried m. Always busy, quick-get-in-and-eat kind of venue!
K. J.
The soup is truely legendary, delicious!
Portion is a bit too small given its price. But overall experience quite good. Very friendly staff. Give them a try!
M. P.
By far the best pho I’ve had in Australia.
I’m not big on beef, so I always opt for the chicken pho. The quality of the chicken has always been good when I order it. At other places I always end up getting chicken with lots of fat on it, but not here. I hope they always keep this up.
The noodles are like silk.
The broth itself is very rich, I love the flavours.
Unlike other pho restaurants they do not have bean sprouts, mint, etc. To add in. But I honestly don’t miss it at pho thin, as the noodle soup is brilliant on its own. Simple with great flavours.
It’s my go to place for pho now.
(If you go during lunch hours it is rather tiny, gets quite crowded and service may take long)
P. T.
Unique pho but unfortunately, the soup did not have the piping hot signature a pho has. This affected an otherwise flavorful soup.
Fried chinese/viet doughnut was also cold - would be better if it was freshly fried too~
Portion was certainly smaller than usual for the price, but expected given the expensive CBD rent
T. L.
Fantastic pho at this establishment. The service is very prompt and staff are very friendly. The pho itself was delicious, the broth itself is very flavour and has thicker texture to it, the beef and noodles are cooked very well and you can add lots of garnishes to it as well, although if you do not like to have a very spicy pho that probably isn't for you. The iced coffee was also very good and was one of the best I have ever had. It can get very busy here since people do know it's a very good place, so if you can't find a seat, you can always have the pho takeout anyway.
L. C.
A very different broth/pho to your usual, mainly with a different flavour broth (cleaner/sweeter?) and stir fried beef which gave it a smoky flavour.
Ice coffee was average though and portion a little small for the price
A. (.
Best pho in CBD period. It’s a small no fuss establishment. You come, order at counter, eat and go.
They serve northern style (Hanoi) pho which is different from most of the pho places in Melbourne which is Southern style.
Also do yourself a favour and get the Viet doughnut. Dip them into the soup and there’s no turning back 😁
I’ve also tried takeaway. Nothing beats eating at the restaurant tho.
💰 Bowl of pho & Chinese doughnut ~$17
E. K.
Very small place probably can only sit about 15 people. Menu is simple where you can only choose different proteins for your pho. The broth is lighter compared to other pho joint. Love that they provide pickled garlic and fresh chillies to compliment your pho.
Food - 7
Service - 6
Vibe - 6
Price - $$$
K. C.
Authentic and well priced, also on amex shop small. Loved my vegetable pho (us a beef stock), and the original pho is good too. Small and crowded but quick service
M. Y.
Apparently it's been around Hanoi since 1979!
Does add a new twist to the taste of the rare beef, simply by stir frying it first and there was a decent amount of garlic in the broth.
There's only one serving size and doesn't appear to be any thai basil.
That donut's a rip off, so forget about it.
A. N.
Delicious pho, we had the traditional beef and the tofu and vegetarian one along with the fried bread. Would return for the mouth watering broth and chili.
N. P.
Phở Thìn
Either you like it or not at all. To the purists, it is a tasty beef noodle soup dish but definitely not Phở. It lacks the aroma of cinnamon and star anise. It has beef sautéed instead of the thinly tender sliced beef. It is served with Chinese doughnut (!), which normally goes with congee- definitely not Pho. And it doesn’t come with a dish of bean sprouts and fresh herbs. Instead it comes with lots of (yes, lots of) chopped spring onions which are already added to the soup. You may want to try this “beef noodle soup”, but it is definitely not my type of Phở !
C. H.
The best Pho place in Australia hands down. A must go if you want to know what authentic pho tastes like!
H. G.
Pretty unique amongst pho places. Apparently no MSG is used, but the soup is still tasty, and they offer some pretty interesting flavours of pho.
K. O.
Pho Thin in Hanoi is very good. Pho Thin on Pasteur street in Da Nang is even better than the original in Hanoi.
Pho Thin in Melbourne is OK, not special like Vietnam style. Would like to see a Ly quoc su in Melbourne, but Pho in Hanoi is just a different class altogether. Pho in Melbourne is disappointing when you have experienced Hanoi Pho.
J. N.
Not the best Pho. Traditionally Pho is served with bean sprouts, this place is not the case. Broth is indeed raw and quite authentic!
D. T.
The soup was full of flavours and the stir fried meat was exotic. However there was no vegetables, only green onions which is the traditional way to cook pho within North Vietnam.
A. L.
To anyone who says traditional pho needs sprout and cinnamon: No , most pho places in Australia are ran by southern Vietnamese and their style is slightly different from the northern style, also a bit sweeter. Pho thin is more traditional Hanoi style. Hanoi pho doesn’t have sprouts or cinnamon , it’s also more savoury and yes , they put Chinese donuts in pho in Hanoi.
G. N.
My family is a fan of Pho Thin CBD. However, some of their staff is very rude to me. Especially today, when I orderrd a pickup through DoorDash. On the app they will ask to buy the chili sauce but it’s free when we order by the phone. So my husband already confirmed to the manager that we can ask for the sauce when we come and pickup the order. That’s why I asked a young girl with glasses today for the sauce. She said I didn’t order them on the app so she didn’t put them in. I told her about what the other staff said to my husband and she said yes and then she turned away!!!! So I had to repeat again for the sauce and she said “ok, if you want them I will give them to you but next time you have to order on the app”. She also had an attitude with me. I paid $40 for 2 pho and I received that attitude? Do you really train your staff? I asked her name and she even didn’t answer me. So rude! I hope you could improve your customer service in the future. It could ruin your business and your reputation soon.
D. L.
Great place for a different type of Pho. Northern style pho sees the beef briefly stirfried prior to being placed in the broth. It's flavourful and a nice change to the usual staple. Would give 5 stars but the quality has dropped slightly since the owner erected the shop, and the Chinese donuts are very small and slightly stale.
N. N.
First time having northern style Vietnamese pho and I personally enjoyed it more than the southern style. I like how the broth is less fatty and beefy.
A. F. T.
Definitely the best Vietnamese place in Melbourne. Great food and terrific staff. I had never tasted such an amazing broth as the one they serve. The chicken pho is my favorite. Hope you guys keep growing and growing with more and more restaurants. Well done!
S. Y.
Always enjoy stir fried beef pho here 👍
S. N.
Some menu items are tiny bit expensive and smaller portion compared to other places, but that doesn't affect the 4 star rating.
My partner ordered a coffee, a mix phở, and a donut. However, after being there for 30 minutes, they did not bring out the coffee. We had to go to another place so we couldn't wait for the coffee any longer.
Other than that, beautifully made phở broth, phở noodles, and meats!
Edited to 5 stars after revisiting the place!
We were very happy with the service.
X. (.
Ive been to pho thin a couple of times now ever since they first opened. My visit today was very different from how it was like on day 1. Taste was very inconsistent. Bad hygiene practices too as they leave chilli and lemon on the table without any cover. No wonder there isnt any queue anymore. For $16 a serve (with Chinese doughnut), I think there are much better lunch offerings in that area.
T. T.
If you like Ha Noi style Pho then this is the place to be. Delicious Vietnamese tradition Pho Ha Noi style. Very clean, cosy restaurant. Friendly and helpful staff. Fast service
M. Z.
Best Pho in Melbourne up to date. My Vietnamese friend loves the place and recommended to me.
T. M.
We had this during the COVID-19 lockdown so it was a take-away and it was amazing.
The broth is delightful, light of spices and full of beef flavour.
A truly authentic taste of Vietnamese cuisine.
M.
Another great noodle soup from Vietnam. The beef is stir fried or cooked in wine sauce, and serve with a delicate soup stock with lots of fresh spring onions.
N. W.
Tasty. The signature garlic beef pho is the pick. Unfortunately they ran out of Vietnamese donuts on this visit
S. L.
I can tell it's the best pho in my life 😋 just bit slow serve 🤔
t.
Very authentic, nearly the same with the Original Pho restaurant in Hanoi, Vietnam which I used to go there in the weekend.
A. L.
I has this bowl of Pho in this morning and this is the best Pho in town, the broth was amazing, specially garlic and chili sauce on the table also tasty
f.
Amazing pho. The broth is clear but rich, light but flavourful.
C. B. K. L.
So delicious and really like Pho Thin in Viet Nam. Staffs and the manager are friendly ❤️ Must place to go in Melbourne
D. L.
Still one of the must unique offerings of pho in Melbourne. Very unique to all the southern variations. Not as good as when the owner was here for a short period, but delicious nonetheless.
J. P.
Omg the broth! Is out of this world. Make sure you dip your donut into the broth like the locals do. Heavenly!
S. T.
My new favourite Pho joint. Went to their restaurant in Hanoi and it was the best Pho I've ever had! This place doesn't disappoint either. Been back a few times the past few weeks.
Z. C.
We usually go there for lunch as it nears to my work place. The soup is fantastic, I can tell they have no msg as I get rashes after eaten msg. Love the chives all over in the soup and the stir fried raw beef tasted really good.
P. N. M.
The taste is super delicious but the portion is a bit small. Would give it 4.5*
K. W.
Nice place and polite staff. I might have ordered the wrong dish. The promoted stir fried beef pho (understandably) would oil up the soup and ultimately becomes unpleasant in the tummy.
P. T.
Tucked away in one of Melbourne's alleyways, with indoor/outdoor setting is this restaurant. If your looking for traditional pho, I.e blood pudding, tripe, tendons etc then this is not for you. Whilst the broth is good, it is quite expensive for its serving size compared to Sydney both in Chinatown and Cabramatta/Conley Vale areas in Sydney. Unfortunately, not comparable to a traditional pho in Sydney but nonetheless acceptable standard for Melbourne.
a.
best pho in melbourne, love their fried dough sticks
R. A.
Had a really yummy rare beef pho. Ate it all. Didn’t give us fresh chilli to add, but was still good. Really small joint. Service was quick.
T. M.
My son love this Pho. He calls it legendary Pho. I love it of course, remind me of Pho Lo Duc I often ate when still in Vietnam.
C. T.
Best Hanoi pho in Melbourne. More authentic than the one in city. Recommend combo stir fried beef pho + quay + poached egg. Add a generous amount of lime juce and home made chilli sauce. It's hangover happiness.
K. H.
First time back since before lockdown last year. Signature stir fried beef pho is still good but not as good as when it was first opened. Probably because mr Thin is not there anymore. Had it delivered once during lockdown but it was a disappointment. Hope it will get back to what it used to be.
M. R.
Only they have pho but very tasty , different style than usual phos
T. O.
I agreed with the other reviewer, the taste and sizes of serve are very inconsistent, I have been there more then 10times and always have the Beef Pho, lately the serving are getting smaller, sometimes you get a lots of noodles and lots of beef but sometimes you are get less noodles and less beef for the same sizes order.
The taste also is inconsistent, I noticed in the early morning the soup is less tasty and at evening it’s more salty. The chilli and lemon are just left on the tables with no cover or separate serving spoon for the next patron. This is very unhygienic !!
N. H.
Myself and my Vietnamese partner have eaten here on MANY occasions pre-Covid and have ordered still during Covid. Why? Their Pho tastes so homely and authentic that my partner and their family got emotional over the taste having it remind them of their hometown eats. When Covid is over we will continue to each there as honestly there is NO comparison to the richness and depth their stock.
B. K. E.
Tried the original Pho Thin in Hanoi back in 2018 and I’ve been dreaming about it ever since. Over the moon to see they’ve expanded to Tokyo and Melbourne! The atmosphere is quite different from Hanoi’s packed, humid, super cheap, one-item menu restaurant, but it still serves that delicious rare-beef pho that I’ve been dreaming about. I can definitely say I have been fully satisfied and my dreams of the past two years have come true! Personally, I would say Pho Thin (whether it’s Melbourne, Tokyo, or the original Hanoi) has the best pho in the world!
s. 6.
Had the husband order takeaway after reading reviews about this place. Had asked for the meat to be fully cooked. There was no bean shoots,n holly basil and the meat was not fully cooked. Almost unholy to have pho without beanshoots and holy basil. Broth was tasty but not sure whether we would be back.
P. H.
It's our favourite place in the city for pho.. good flavour but somehow the wokhei is slightly less post covid lockdown.. the place can get busy and is fairly small so plan your visit well :)
M. L.
A Hanoi style of pho that rocks. Different to the standard pho we're used to here sans bean sprouts, basil and mint - somewhat minimalist but very tasty with no msg. Never had it with the chinese style doughnut ( yau chau gwai) which i grew up eating with coogee but it's great for soaking up that clean tasting broth. Also lots of Vietnamese customers which is always a good sign. I always streer clear of trendy eateries devoid of customers native to the cuisine. Staff are somewhat indifferent but I never care about that if the food is good.
E. W.
MY #1 favorite vietnamese pho
B. T.
A different style of pho that I've never seen before. Expect heaps of spring onions, unique garlicy beef topping, and fried donuts.
M. B.
One of the best Pho I have had in Melbourne. Highly recommend for a cheap and casual bite to eat.
I. S.
Nice place to eat pho. The place is pretty warm for winter and the pho tasted great. Price was reasonable and friendly staff
J. L.
Good pho, different from the usual phos.
J. R.
went there for dinner with my pal yesterday evening, the pho was so intensely delicious and the white wine i ordered was a nice oyster bay sauv blanc!!! i rly enjoyed dining here, thank u guys :)
D. N.
Serving is small.
Flavours ok.
Very northern style.
Much prefer Pho Sac.
c. t.
Great authentic food. There isn't a wide range of dishes but theyre excellent at pho alone
s. c.
Super sad. Was really looking forward to another delicious bowl of noodles. Hadn’t come here for about 1-2 months but things have def changed. Broth wasn’t as tasty, and I remember it use to have a plethora of herbs. Likely won’t be back as it’s not worth the cost!!
A. K.
Absolutely delish!
D. K.
My favourite pho in the city. Clean, pronounced flavour and a good range of additions to those who want a personal touch.
S. D. M.
Pho Thin caused quite a buzz when they first opened. The restaurant, situated at one end of Hardware Lane, was quite small and dark. Each table had pickled garlic as well as garlic chilli sauce. Both were life savers as the Hanoi style pho was quite different from the usual pho.
We had the stir fried beef pho and the chicken pho. The fried dough had sold out for the day. Both broths were very clean and simple. This style of pho did not come with bean sprouts or fresh herbs. It essentially was noodles, soup, meat and heaps of spring onions.
The stir fried beef was quite delicious. The chicken pho was very plain but the pickled garlic made it slightly more interesting. The noodles were soft and silky.
Service was efficient. The menu was limited. I will definitely be back.
C. C.
Bought takeaway. Soup not hot enough for the raw beef noodle. Portion is very small for my male friends.
J. D.
First time patron. Very nice meal and fast service
A.
My new favourite pho place in Melbourne - the broth is so delicious.
P. L.
Very bland and average pho compared to other great shops in Melbourne😓 brisket was very thinly sliced and lost the texture.
D. N.
Bad customer service but pho is quite good. The staff doesn't pay attention when customers come in. Bad attitude when asking customers to move to another table.
B. S.
The place is very efficient and the food quality was good however the portions could easy be bigger with the price they charge
t. n.
Best Pho so far in Melbourne
S. 9.
I love the broth of the pho. This pho is different as there are no bean sprouts. My friend also said that the portion is slightly small.
S. C.
Pretty nice! Excellent broth. A bit on the heavy side but I think that's authentic
C. F.
Good food but experience made unpleasant by swarms of flies
V. V.
Excellent dish in the city with only $13.5. I order the Stir fried beef, which is so delicious, will come here next time^.^
K. P.
It’s okay. No mint and no been shoots. Had better but good choice if in the city looking for pho.

(Translated) The first time I tried Vietnamese cuisine, I felt that it was more delicious than any other. After the introduction of Vietnamese students, I realized that this is the pho from the north. The soup is rich and not greasy. It goes well with fried dough sticks, and the noodles are generous, of course. Be sure to order a cup of Vietnamese coffee, the price is reasonable, I come to eat it almost once a week

There is taste. The soup is also delicious!
The noodles are a bit scarce, but it's okay.
Food also comes out quickly.
The downside is... I go to the food court and pre-order.
