Always enjoyed coming here. Cosy and intimate wine bar, good entourage, yummy food and nice selection of wine. We had the oysters and the chef selection. Would be good if our service waiter knew what was on the chefs menu. Originally we were advised the selection included the Wallaby tail and John dory, however no Wallaby on the menu and it turned out to be the quail and chefs cut. Negative comment here as made our wine pairing a bit difficult. Ordered a Chablis to go with the John Dory which didn't match the steak... Food were still delicious except we the desert, the coffee flavour overwhelm the fragrance of the creme caramel.

I wouldn’t say I didn’t enjoyed the experience but it could be better. Nice atmosphere, good entourage, perfect service and my glass of Cabernet-Merlo was really good. In turn the food while served in a great manner missing a taste quality. Tartar spices were a bit unbalanced and my steak was not juicy as you would expect from a good cut. In overall, feels a bit overpriced for what you get. P.S. it’s a bit challenging to find the place especially at night. Big sign just say “wine bar” but not the full name of the venue.

One of the best restaurants I've been to! So many kinds of food to pick from, and they're so tasty. The room is tidy, ordered and spacious. The service is simple and effective. The position is strategic since it is situated in the center of the city. We're probably going back and taking my family here next time.

We followed with the Steak with roasted bone marrow which was sensational. The crispy beef tendon was a nice touch. The portions are very generous, we were both full. Punch Lane seems to be full constantly so when our group size upped to 7, we were thrilled that the reservation was changed without issue. The welcome upon arrival was excellent and our Kiwi waitress, new to the job (unfortunately I cannot recall her name), looked after us extremely well all evening. She was extremely knowledgeable on the menu, able to identify minute elements of our dishes when we asked throughout the meal and provide recommendations on dishes, all of which I would now highly recommend. The menu reads like a dream and we had trouble choosing. All three courses were excellent and the presentation of the dishes especially was fantastic.

We came here on a Tuesday night for an anniversary dinner. Traffic was unfortunate as to be expected although we tried to allow enough time for that, we still ran into more delay than expected. Punch Lane were more than accommodating and moved our booking without hesitation. One would assume this may differ if it weren't for a weeknight booking though. We dined with the five course tasting menu and as recommended by the waiter we kept it as a surprise and found out together what would be served to us throughout the night. Each dish was incredible! Honestly could not fault one dish. Could not recommend the tasting menu more! Portion sizes were perfect, my partner is a big eater but he left satisfied. We were served a variety of freshly cut bread, to die for! The five course tasting menu can be paired with wine but neither my partner or I were able to drink for the evening. Seated closely to us were afew tables ordering a varieties of wines and they were beyond impressed so I have no doubt Punch Lane would pair their meals perfectly with wines. Over all a fantastic evening. Service was fabulous and we both enjoyed our night, well done!

I would like to break down my rating. 5 star to the French male and female wait staff terrible that they have to let customers know that half the menu was unavailable. Really polite, kind and friendly. 4 out 5 for the atmosphere and environment was very nice. 2 out of 5 for the food. Nearly half the menu was unavailable, I really wanted the pork neck but unavailable. So I had the steak, it has so fat and grisly. Very disappointed. I would give it a go again, when they have a full menu...

Good ambiance, good wine, though the Gamay did not taste anything like you would expect a Gamay to... Astringent to the point where we wondered how long the bottle had been open. Booked for dinner between theatre shows with my mother as it was very close to the Princess Theatre. Service, professionalism and friendliness was great from the minute we arrived. The menu was great but made it difficult to choose so we opted for the Tasting Menu. Great decision and the wines were perfectly matched. Special mention to our Maître-D Denis, Waiter James and Sommelier Quentin for making our experience truly memorable and enjoyable. I’ll definitely be returning and thoroughly recommend this place to anyone looking for a great dining experience.

Cosy venue with delicious wine and lovely service. Winter menu a bit pricier than what I experienced in summer. The winter menu is very meat heavy, so vegetarians and vegans should call ahead to learn their menu options! Also recommend doing this for fructose allergies too. Staff are helpful and where possible will alter dishes for allergy specifications. I had the fish of the day (salmon) and a side of brutal sprouts and they were delicious!

Rated a 4 star only because their wine list is ridiculously expensive. There should be a manageable option. Perfect for before theatre dinner or romantic times. Good for meetings as well.

I have been here many times. This is amazing space. As expected their wine list is very good. The food here is amazing, you pay for what you get and so it is a little pricey, but well worth it. I am delighted to now be in a position to leave a glowing, 5 star review about Punch Lane. Our first visit to Punch Lane for my fathers 60th Birthday did not go at all well. However, within hours of leaving a Google review, the manager of the establishment called me. I cannot express enough, how well Punch Lane dealt with our initial disappointment - this was customer service at its best. It was clear from the conversation with her that this was not an experience she was used to her customers having. She was extremely apologetic, and said, although no excuse, they had had staffing issues on the night we were there. She asked us go back the following week and promised she would ensure we were looked after and would leave Punch Lane after a wonderful experience for my fathers birthday. True to her word, when we went back the following week, we were made to feel extremely special. The food, service and wine were second to none. My Dad was made to feel very special, and they even brought him out a cake with candles and sang him Happy Birthday. I honestly cannot fault how this whole thing was handled, and feel like many establishments could take a leaf out of Punch Lanes customer service. No matter how good an establishment you are, sometimes it just doesn't go right, however, it's how you deal with it thereafter that makes the difference. We would have no hesitation in recommending Punch Lane to friends/family or returning there again. Thanks for an amazing night guys!

Superlative customer service that is friendly without the stuffiness. Nothing is too much trouble, from booking for someone with special needs to having us served in time to catch our 7.30pm show...and all with a smile and genuine wish to help. The Wine list 'by the glass' is fantastic and the preshow special ($50 for 2 courses) is delicious and great value. Special mention must be made of the bread and olive oil...divine! The cosy atmosphere is reminiscent of a wine in Europe and the outside tables are great on a balmy night First class all round!

Beautiful ambiance and accommodating waiters, they were able to assist me with my food allergies without me feeling like I was missing out on anything. Amazing wine bar we stumbled across whilst sightseeing in Melbourne. What was planned to a quick drink as we were on a tight schedule, ended up being a relaxing 2 hrs after we realised what a beautiful place we had found. Amazingly comprehensive wine list as well as what my partner stated was the best Ameretto Sour she had ever had. The food looked amazing but since we had only just had lunch shortly before we were not too hungry... But when we saw the cheese's and meats on offer, we felt we had to try the charcuterie board. You can select your own meats and cheeses from a large selection and after a few great recommendations from the lovely staff, we had the most delicious charcuterie board in memory that matched our wines beautifully. Needless to say we highly recommend this bar, such a cosy, relaxing place that was a definite highlight of Melbourne for us.

stumbled over this nice restaurant / bar while walking up Little Bourke St one evening. Was very busy inside so we chose a table on the footpath. Was a cool night but they have heating which made it quite cosy. Quirky place with a very interesting menu of modern fusion cuisine. Lots of wines to choose from. Waiter was very knowledgeable and chatty without being over intrusive. Food was very good (as was wine). We had an entree and a main and were quite full after that.

Love Punch Lane! Have been there before but this was the first time on the fork 50% discount which was obviously AMAZING! Ocean trout as an entrée was delish with a buttery sauce and delicious mussels. Charcuterie plate also lovely - roast beef delectable. Cape grim rump steak was excellent, cooked rare. The barramundi (?) white fish in broth was nice but a bit light in flavor, very clean! Coconut rice pudding interesting but not my favorite but the chocolate tart was rich and coconut sorbet superb. Service as always fantastic. Can get a bit loud if there are many people in there - sound bounces around easily in the restaurant. It's quite an intimate setting. Would def recommend this place, even if you couldn't get the discount.

The wine list was extensive and the atmosphere was formal yet cosy and comfortable. Great venue for a special dinner with the family or a romantic dinner with some red wine. Perfect in the winter. We had the five course tour of the menu at Punch Lane. As a vegetarian, the waiter said they didnt have a particular menu but the chef would "surprise" me. Glad I trusted the chef as the food was just delightful! The twice baked gruyere souffle was fluffy and light with the right amount of gruyere. My favourite was a Field Mushroom terrine with caramelized Brussels sprouts - buttery and sweet. If I had to say anything it would be the time between the courses. The pace of serving could have been slightly faster as we spent nearly 20 minutes between each course.
