Cannot fault the meal, all of our meals were 10/10. Also, all of the waiters we had were amazing as well, helpful and personable! If we were to be ABSOLUTELY picky, and this is such a minor thing, but I feel maybe the poor wait staff were a little short staffed and therefore difficult to get to everyone timely, so took a while for anyone to take our drinks order etc. But you could see they were under the pump and we are not blaming them at all, they did a fantastic job when they got to us. And our meals came quickly and were delicious! Would definitely recommend!! 👍🏻👍🏻

Amazing food, served by Jess who was absolutely lovely, pork ribs as an entree was so yum!! The sauce was so tasty! For main, 300g sirlion and it was to die for, so yum and tender and dont get me started on the yummy mushroom sauce and chips 😍 for dessert we got the flourless choc cake and was so delicious with the mars bar sauce and ice cream, love this place and will be back.

We were a group of 6 dining for Christmas lunch. Most of us ordered the 200g eye fillet (medium) which was really tender and tasty. The quality of the beef was really good. I ordered the 350g Angus scotch fillet (medium). The beef was also really good but I didn’t quite like the bitter taste of charred meat from the grill. It seemed like it was cooked more than what a medium should be. Other than that, can’t really complain. We also ordered some entrées - the garlic bread and sweet potato chips are dangerously tasty! If you don’t watch your portions, you’ll end filling yourself up with carbs even before you get to the steak! Dessert-wise, the sticky date pudding and flourless chocolate cake are a tad too sweet. I don’t have a sweet tooth, so don’t take my word for it - it may just be the right kind of sweet for those who love it. Great service from the staff and quite a relaxed ambiance. Will definitely come back again.

This place has a posh deco with attentive staff. We ordered the calamari, which has been highly recommended. It has a light seafood taste, the batter is crispy, and it has a firm texture that allows me to bite it off easily. Squeeze on the provided lime and it has a tangy taste. Yummy! We also ordered the pasture fed eye fillet (300g) and the Angus grass fed GMO-Free eye fillet (200g) in medium rare. True to their reviews, both cuts were indeed cooked to perfection! However, we ordered the peppercorn sauce to go with our steak and it did not impress. The grilled field mushroom with cheese and pesto was also delicious - not sure how they handled the cheese, but I thought it was a little crispy. We got the garden salad and chips as sides, and both were tasty as well. At the end, with our bill, we were served a small individually wrapped mint chocolate piece each. Perfect!

Really great steakhouse in Melbourne CBD. I was looking for a good steak at the last minute. I called up Rare at 1.40pm and asked when they closed. The kitchen was supposed to close at 2pm but they let me and my husband come and have a late lunch which was supremely nice of the staff and the chef to stay behind for us. And it was so worth it (at least for us) - I had the eye fillet and the medium rare was done to perfection. My husband said his salmon was fantastic. The side of beans and broccolini was buttery and moreish but still light and refreshing. The restaurant had a lovely atmosphere but ultimately the floor and kitchen staff made the experience. Well absolutely come back here - it's just become my favourite steakhouse in Melbourne.

I came here twice in my short time in Melbourne primarily due to the service! The service was great and the staff are very attentive and helpful. I would say the food is decent although some minor improvements could be made. I do want to open by saying that the meat you order will be cooked perfectly. It will be at the absolute right doneness. However, the sides can lead a bit to be desired. The roasting is sometimes aggressive and somewhat on the burnt side (though I acknowledge for some people this is preferred). The au jus that came with my wagyu steak was a bit strong and thick. Perhaps reduced for too long? It was very strong and a bit bitter. It overwhelmed the flavors of the dish and so I did not use it very much. I added some lime to it about halfway through my meal and that helped. I would perhaps stay away from the red wine au jus and stick to their more traditional sauces. The entrees are absolutely delicious and I highly recommend the scallops and the thyme gnocchi. They are PERFECT and something I will remember for a long time. Absolutely worth a trip down.

The garlic prawns to start were delicious. Steak was good but cooked very rare when we asked for medium rare (both steaks at our table came out very rare). My main issue though is charging $6 for the red wine jus. For a $52 steak the sauce should really come with it. A tiny serve of sauce along with an expensive steak dinner should not be $6 extra. It's a nice upscale place and charging for sauce there didn't sit quite right with me.

You pay for the ambience and average steaks. I believe the cooks in there didn't know what they were doing as well as they were laughing and joking around in full view of everyone! The service wasn't attentive and the food was not worth it. For tourists, I'm not kidding when I say there are better places to spend your money eg rockpool grill at crown. It's about the same price but tastes much better. I doubt I'll revisit this place again, such a pity though it has a beautiful interior.

This was our first time to Rare Steakhouse and first proper dining out experience since lockdown. The service, from checking in, ordering, and delivery of our meals was impeccable. CovidSafe compliant with QR code check in and menu, and sanitiser on every table next to the salt and pepper! The wait staff were attentive and pleasant. The food came out perfectly timed, with not too short or long a wait between courses. We shared a calamari entree which was delicious, and both our steaks (eye fillet and scotch) were beautiful. The vegetables with almonds were delicious too! A lovely night out all round. Thank you, we will be back and recommend your restaurant to others.

Down a side street we found the midtown Rare Steak House . It had a very Melbourne touch with the brick and wood. We booked for 2 and were seated on the ground level by a friendly gentleman (sorry I didn’t catch the name but I think he was Brazilian) who was perfect with the service throughout the night, very professional and made an enjoyable experience for us. We could see the chefs cooking and were very focused on the job. We had the gnocchi and the Queensland Kobe scotch filet steak medium rare. I loved the gnocchi and it had just the right ratio of ingredients with a white wine . My partner who is a chef himself said the steak was cooked medium rare perfectly and he enjoyed his meal with a nice glass of Shiraz . We had a great experience , tasteful and the service great. I would recommend to friends and family .

One of the nicest steakhouses I have visited in recent times. The starter - I ordered the garlic bread, which I found a bit below par. I noticed that the butter wasn’t spread over the pieces and the garlic was in clumps. Excusing the entree, the steak was cooked perfectly. I ordered a 200gram Angus Eye Fillet steak with a side of mash - no sauce, cooked rare and that’s what I got. It cut like butter, and had they yummy meaty taste. Delicious. For desert, my friend ordered the vanilla ice cream with Mars Bar sauce - OMG - make sure you order this. I couldn’t believe how similar the taste was. Enjoyable evening and friendly staff and a great wine selection.

This place seems fairly nice, though the steaks have a sort of jus on them, which was a surprise to someone who likes their steak fairly simply done. Also, there is a lot of char even on rarer steaks. The garlic butter is very, very garlicky. Staff is very friendly and our server was pleasant but didn't seem very experienced. They don't have child seats (either high chairs or boosters).

Rare Steakhouse has been a favourite of mine since I moved to Melbourne. In that time, the owners have changed but the quality steak has not. The whole menu leaves my stomach full but my mouth wanting more. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. However, the last time I visited I was struck by how out of place pop music was in an otherwise fine dining atmosphere. That is all that keeps me from rating Rare a solid 5 out of 5.

Recommended by my boss as the place to go for a steak when in Melbourne (there for a conference). Very welcoming and warm atmosphere. Menu had lots of options. I chose eye fillet with garlic sauce and baked potato. Colleague chose same with mushroom sauce and we shared an entree of baked garlic mushrooms (yummy & certainly big enough to share) and a bowl of steamed veggies. Steak was beautifully, perfectly cooked, sauces were delicious and the vegetables, tender crisp and very fresh. Washed down with a nice glass of red, was a perfect. Service was fabulous. Restaurant a 20 minute, enjoyable walk in the fresh air from our accommodation in Spring Street.

The food and atmosphere of this place is instant. We went on a Saturday night there was a feeling of if you have had a big week it was time to spoil yourself with this 5 - Star steak. Book in advance on the weekends, I only rang at lunch time but the place was booked. I read reviews staying it was over priced but I totally disagree. The service maybe didn't match the food at all times but most upheld a professional demeanour. I found the demographic on a Saturday to be couples or large groups of men, sipping fine wines and eating bloody steaks. It is a low key industrial, Melbourne vibe without too much fancy. Next to a jazz bar it was the perfect location and style for a nice boozy night with some red, rare steak and mood lighting.

The cocktails i ordered (Rossini and Southside) were mediocre and quite high in price (but to be expected in the CBD) the food was good but again not worth the price paid for it. My partner ordered a steak meal and i got the lamb cutlets meal. Steak good perfectly but the mushroom sauce was abit tangy and the chips tasted soaked in oil. The lamb cutlets were yum so was the mash and sweet potato crisps the sauce was abit tasteless but the staff were friendly and helpful and made the night enjoyable. Squires loft is probably the best value good quality steak restaurant in Melbourne. The eye fillet & mushroom source with chips is probably the best and surest item on the menu. Pricing is exceptionally well priced, and the source is tasty. If you are looking for a place where you can enjoy a high quality steak for under $50-60, than I recommended this place. You can’t go wrong here. There are other restaurants which serve amazing steaks also but around this price point this restaurant is definitely the best. There are several Squires all around Melbourne and they are very accessible. Cheers!

Went here with a group of friends and informed staff that I had celiac disease to which the staff member looked at me like a idiot , after asking what is gluten free on the menu the staff member said they had no clue ! Would highly recommend anyone with celiac to be aware of the risks. After discussing all about celiac and ways to prevent contamination , I was invited back with a very generous gift voucher . Walking in and seeing the menu I wasn't immediately impressed but upon biting into a perfectly cooked cut of eye fillet my opinion changed rapidly. Yes, it's pretty expensive but it is utterly delicious if you enjoy steak with minimal extra fuss. The mushroom sauce was also a delicious addition.
