the food here is always to die for. whilst the pizza is great, it is the other vegan sides that make it for me. the waffle fries are perfectly seasoned with an amazing barbecue sauce and the wings are just delicious. i opt for the spicy sauce option and it definitely has a kick so the ranch and pickles help cool down your mouth a bit. the garden salad with the vegan feta is amazing too. service is always great and the food comes out in no time!

Red Sparrow is one of my frequents due to how good everything is. The "chicken" wings are divine and the pizzas, everyone single one, is amazing. The drinks are great as well. If you're looking for a vegan place to dine out, this is the place.

This is as good as vegan pizza gets, anywhere in Melbourne. All the pretentious traditional restaurants mostly still only offer a vegetarian pizza without cheese, whereas these guys have gone and created an incredible menu with vegan cheese that stretches. Best pizza joint in the state, including all the non-vegan ones

This place is always so delicious but something that bothers me a little are the prices. I’ve only ever ordered through Uber eats so I’m not sure if they put their prices up on the app but $12 for a small Greek salad, $12.50 for 5-6 waffle fries, cheapest pizza being $19 which is only vegan cheese. Then $21 for a pizza which has just potato? They cost price of these items would be quite low so I just don’t understand. It perpetuates the idea that being vegan is expensive. Business is business though which is why I’m not taking away a star and as I said the food is great but perhaps in the future they could look at reworking the menu prices. Edit: Thanks for the response, definitely some things I didn’t factor in there. While the prices are up there, it makes sense why and it still won’t stop me from ordering from you guys.

If you’ve seen any of my other reviews you may know Im a meat eater, but often gets dragged to vegan places because of my partner. So I was pleasantly surprised by how good the pizzas are. My recommendation would be the pepperoni pizza. The desserts also went down a treat. I would dare say this is probably one of the best vegan restaurants in Melbourne and definitely lives up to its high rating and reputation.

Ordered from here for the first time and can't fault the food or service. The verde pizza was different than any other pizza I have had and so delicious. These pizzas are truly gourmet. Red sparrow is such a cool space! Great atmosphere, friendly service, and a cosy interior. The food is well made and full of flavour. There's red base and white base pizza options with some sides and a few desserts too. We loved all the ones we tried including pepperoni and Bianca. And save some room for a deep fried mars bar for dessert !!

I wanted to give this vegan pizza a go as my usual Italian place was shut. The base is traditional soft and the pizza was well priced. What I didn't quite like was the tomato sauce, a bit too much and not much taste. I added some salt but still pretty bland, as the sauce should be cooked with some salt (I generally do not eat very salty). The vegan cheese was also a bit bland, of a very soft consistency. I'll still give it a 4. I believe vegans are more likely to appreciate this.

I really liked the Pizza with Salsiccia. It's really hard to make a good vegan pizza, I guess. And that's definitely the best vegan pizza I ever had. It was perfect when hot, then it got a bit chewy when cold. The service was a bit impersonal. You can only order with the bar code and no menu is provided

I am often hard pressed to find a place that I look forward to revisit before even finishing my meal But Red Sparrow did it for me ... The pizzas here were out of the world. Honestly was surprised that they could pack on so much flavour for a vegan pizza !! The base was a bit soft though even though the crust was burnt so maybe it would have been nice if it was cooked a bit longer further from the heat. But seriously this place is dope :)

Best customer service I've ever experienced. Staff were extremely welcoming and we're able to get us a table on a busy Saturday without having a reservation. Our waiter was very friendly and even took the time to sit down and walk us through the menu and his recommendations as well as tell us the story about the name behind the business. I had been told this place was good but I didn’t know they only had vegan pizzas on their menu so when we were handed the menus, it was definitely a surprise. Red Sparrow is the greatest pizzeria in Melbourne, possibly the world. My two children and I visited recently and enjoyed 3 pizzas. My wife actually came too but because she isn't vaccinated she had to eat in the car. Sad for us but those are the state laws and actually didn't miss her as much as I thought we would. We started with the pepperoni pizza which was sublime (that means really good). Then we ordered the Hawaiian and it was sublime too. Finally we ate the cheeseburger pizza and it was Epic! Pro tip - if you like hot pizza order one pizza at a time so you don't have 3 or however many coming out all at once. Thank you Red Sparrow, you are the greatest

Dine in was fun, tasty pizza and friendly staff who were more than happy to box up the leftovers and give us a tip on how to enjoy the next day (don't nuke the microgreens). Absolutely fantastic. 100% vegan. The only place in town where you can get a vegan deep fried mars bar. There notella pizza is super delicious too. They I've cream is yummy. The all the pizzas are very gourmet. Nice and chewy crust not to dry or cheap. They art and atmosphere is relaxing and laid back. I love to bring my friends here and share a bunch of different flavors of pizza with each other. The staff are friendly. There is alcoholic drinks served if your into that. I look forward to coming back here soon. There is usually a free park nearby after 5pm it's free i think.

This was where we found ourselves this evening and without expectations we ordered our pizza, COVID style. Prices were reasonable and good portions also. Good to see ordering that was not reliant on FB messenger. Note: The sign on our table with the QR code and table number, may work better if it was located closer to a light source, as in the darkness it took a few attempts to get the phone camera to pick up the link. Otherwise It was a beautiful evening and a nice spot to enjoy the ambiance of the Collingwood street scene. I ordered a pizza last night on Uber eats and the restaurant accidentally sent me the wrong order - actually somebody else's order. As I am gluten free and this order was not gluten free they went above and beyond to call the driver and ask him to make sure I contact the restaurant as soon as he arrived at my house. I think it was Chelsea, I'm not 100% sure but she was so apologetic about the whole mix up and fast tracked my new fresh replacement order for me along with my original pizza as a bonus. I had a Capricciosa pizza here and it was really tasty. The pizza was tomato base, Mozarella, bacon, artichoke, olives, bacon and fresh parsley. The ingredients were all vegan, and delicious. Wow!! The pizza base tasted quite thick and floury, not the best I've tried. The waitress was very nice but then it was an intense experience w the waiter telling me how good the pizza was, yes I know mate lol Maybe he was the owner I'm not sure but he did the same thing to the other punters. Mmnn Anyway this place also sells Coldstream Apple Cider and a nice Pinot Noir. Overall this was a really good experience.

The atmosphere and vibe was a joy to be near. My only regret is I don't live in Melbourne. I long for more vegan pizza. The staff are brilliant and clearly like working there. I came here for dinner with my partner on a whim and I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. Firstly all the food is vegan (I had no idea walking in), and they have a decent range of drinks and cocktails available too. They have an online booking system and they will book smaller groups (including couples), something that is vanishingly rare nowadays. The staff were friendly, enthusiastic and prompt in getting us seated and fed (I think the food was at our table in under 8 minutes). The pizza we ordered was delicious, and I was surprised at how good the vegan cheese was, so surprised I tried the vegan tiramisu cheesecake (it was tasty). I will be back to try their fake meat out of curiosity. Overall an excellent dining experience.

This vegan pizza joint does really good pizza. Definitely a place you can take your non veg friends, because the food is excellent. They have their own pizza oven, the pizza bases are deliciously bread-y, there's a large range of pizza toppings, including some interestingly experimental varieties (on a recent visit I had mac n cheese pizza, sounds weird but it was great and very cheesy). I'm thankful that they recently expanded and now have a much larger area to dine in.

Fantastic service and the staff are hilarious in a good way. I tried this restaurant amongst a group of eight people where we shared a bunch of dishes. I am a vegetarian and found their white sauce based pizzas lovely. Unfortunately I did not enjoy the tofu in the salad or pizzas due to a smoked taste that I found unusual. I think the meat eaters in the group enjoyed almost everything. I struggled a bit because I am not a huge fan of mock meat and found some of the pizzas too "smokey" or strongly flavored. Having said that, next time I plan to order my own dish as I know know what I like. On a side note, my vegan cousin would have rated this place 5 stars.

Let me get the bad out of the way. The service could be a bit more attentive. And that's it. I am a big fat Italian meat eater and let me tell you this place has amazing pizza. You have no idea how much that annoys me to say. A vegan pizza place has amazing pizza. But it does. And to be fair you'd never know it was a vegan place, it's not in your face and it's not preachy it just lets it's food do the talking. And what an incredible speech it's giving.

Fantastic! My wife and I have been trying to get the time to get to Red Sparrow for ages now, and finally got there on Saturday night. Fantastic service, very cool ambiance and the pizzas were absolutely delicious. Light, thin bases with puffy crusts. We tried the Ortolana & the Pepperoni. Just had the puttanesca on a GF base and an Italian salad - both delicious. The salad had endive and radicchio which I’m too lazy to buy myself and wash so their inclusion in the salad, alongside a scrumptious crumbly cheese, was divine. Special experience. I had read the reviews here before going, including the few bad ones (sometimes they are the most informative) but have no regrets traveling from South bank to visit this pizza shop. I had the death star pizza, which was a special at the time. It was really good! Portion size was good too. Also had the quinoa salad which was much larger portion than expected and very nice. Service and atmosphere is great as well. I'm guessing the bad reviews were from the more generic pizza on the menu that didn't compare to their animal based counterparts. Personally I recommend checking this place out and keep an eye towards the specials offered if you want something delicious and unique.

Please read this whole review. The Pizza is very good, some of the best I’ve had in a long time. I had a mushroom pizza with gluten free crust. All their pizza is vegan. These things are important to know. Their importance has been thrust upon me by virtue of biological circumstance as I’ve developed allergies to wheat and dairy. This review however is not graded on a curve. This is very good pizza. You may, at this point, be thinking, "ok, this random person on the internet wants me to think that pizza can be good without gluten and cheese, whatever, nice try buddy." That’s why, I feel it is important to know where I am coming from when I say this pizza is very good. I grew up in Windsor Ontario Canada. A rust-belt auto manufacturing town on the banks for the Detroit River. This is obviously far from Melbourne, where you are reading this, trying to decide where to go to get pizza. It’s important to know a couple things about Windsor. Windsor has a large Italian diaspora community and some of the best pizza in the world, ask anyone from there. Growing up in Windsor pizza is a way of life. Windsorites are proud of their many pizza places, it is a pride that unites everyone in the city, Italian or not (I am not). Like many working class cities, for many people, Windsor becomes a place you are from. I left looking for opportunities and answers to big questions. What I found in my journey between South Detroit and The Cultural Capital of Australia can not fit into a review of a pizza place. To sum it up, I will say, there are some things we leave behind in our childhood and some things we carry with us deep inside. My love of good pizza is one of the things I have carried. I have had lots of pizza. Pizza that people would call “very good pizza” and some of it was. Most was not. Most didn’t measure up to my high standards. Sure it was pizza, better than not having pizza, but it is rare to truly have pizza. For me, to truly have pizza, outside of Windsor, is a very rare thing indeed. It became even more rare when I found out that my body could no longer be filled with dairy and gluten. At first I rejected it. These were things that made pizza. These were ingredients to something that made up a part of my cultural identity. I rejected the idea that I could never again truly have pizza. I rejected the idea, much in the way my body now violently rejected these ingredients I loved. I am many things, but I am no fool, give me pizza or give me poor health is not a choice. I put the experience of truly having pizza away. I packed it up with other childhood things. Since then I have had pizza. Gluten free crusts, vegan cheese, and many other combinations that fit my new reality. It was pizza, better than no pizza but not truly having pizza. Something that was already rare now seemed impossibly out of reach. Today, for the first time, I eat at Red Sparrow Pizza. My wife and I had flown in from Vancouver earlier that day and thought we should pick up a pizza to take home. A minute after we got in, the hail started outside. We were offered a table to dine in and we gladly accepted. With expectations set at a reasonable level, we ordered. Lovely staff, fast service, a positive experience all around. Then the food came and that's when, for the first time, in a long time. I had pizza. I truly had pizza. The crust puffed around the edges without burning. The medium thickness was the perfect balance between crisp and chewy. Each slice folded in my hand and the toppings stayed on. Cooked to perfection mushrooms nestled in the right amount of cheese and oil, they threaten to fall off but never did. Fresh arugula on top tied the whole thing together. The flavours highlighted each other, rich cheese and earthy mushrooms, balanced, perfect crust. So when I say the pizza at Red Sparrow is very good pizza. Understand where I am coming from, so you know what I am saying. There is pizza that feeds your stomach and there is pizza that feeds your soul. Very good pizza does both. This is very good pizza.

A great alternative for those who have vegan dietary requirements however if you don't there are better pizzas out there without all the faux meat options. I will say though that the base and sauce were all that of a quality pizza although it needed slightly more crunch for my taste. I would suggest for Red sparrow to not bother with all the faux meats and try vegetable alternatives or at least have a few more veggie options. On another note staff were attentive and very polite and informative.

Red Sparrow is a shining example of how far vegan food has come over the last 10 or so years. The pizzas here were of a decent size (enough for a main meal) and the flavours were truly sublime. I had some of the Volcano (a beautifully spicy creation consisting of sriracha, habenero and jalapeno with faux pepperoni slices), the Bianca (garlic confit, mozzarella, potato, leek, rosemary, and parmesan) and the Mushroom.
