Had dinner and drinks with friends in the cocktail lounge, which is currently (not sure for how long) set up as a restaurant. Food was excellent and the service was exceptional as usual. The waiter’s recommendations were spot on and the staff seemed to be coping with the COVID reopening chaos quite well. This is one of my top 3 favourite regular places and it never disappoints.

Probably the most knowledgeable bartenders when it comes to cocktails. The drinks are not cheap, but reflect the quality and class behind each drink. The pork-belly was perhaps the most intriguing dish on the menu. The quality of pork probably out-shined many high class restaurants (Think Heston) and the soft-shell crab was well seasoned. The money-bag dumplings were okay, and the roti is probably not a dish to order. It doesn't really reflect Subcontinent cuisine well, but was okay at best. The mapo tofu was extremely flavoursome and filling. Overall: Probably the best cocktail bar in Melbourne, I want to back already! Definitely a must-go if you're in Melbourne.

The cocktail bar is quite swanky. The drinks at the Seamstress are oldstyle, balanced and famously potent. The interior is vaguely themed to match the Seamstress idea, with garments hanging from the ceiling. For smokers, there is a small balcony where you can perch above the dark city streets. Overall, the place has a cool ambience. However, we had to wait far too long for three measely money bag dumplings. By the time they arrived we had had two rounds of cocktails and were about to leave. Perhaps one would have better luck with food if you dine in the restaurant section. Otherwise, it is worth visiting this bizarre and interesting establishment.

My first visit here was two years back prior to covid. I can still remember those fried soft shell crabs. I could never have imagined the setup they did with that food. Gosh ! That platter looks breathtaking. Restaurant that is nailing takeaways. I would say probably the best Kimchi in town. Had dinner with friends on Saturday evening. The restaurant was very busy but staff provided friendly timely service. Our server helped us decide on dishes. Our sharing plates arrived at regular intervals. All were very tasty other than the pork belly that we thought was a little dry. The wine list is good - the wine we chose was not available but an alternative was quickly decided and delivered. It was disappointing that the coffee machine was not working. In summary, good value, generally very good food and very good service.

An old time favourite that never disappoints. The sharing plates menu is a stand out and staff can be absolutely relied upon for their recommendations on dishes and serving size. They won't try and steer you towards more food, or bigger serves than you need. Staff are excellent overall - the sort of vibe where you know they are happy to be working there.

Cocktails were amazing, and the bar staff were very friendly. When we went down to eat though, that was a completely different experience. The waitress we had was unsure of the menu, couldn’t explain to us about the feed-me menu and how it worked, as it’s different to other restaurants in Melbourne. She picked dishes for us, but ended up bringing different dishes instead. Didn’t cater for my friends coconut allergy, even though we specifically said no coconut. Food was good.. service in the dining room needs improvement.

Food is beyond amazing. Wide choice of beers and wines. Great cocktails. I liked the fact that while at the cocktail bar, when our restaurant table was ready, we got told straight away and they brought our order from the bar down at the restaurant. The only negative note is that the strip loin, though really good, was way overpriced for the quantity, IMO. Anyway, we ended up paying less than 60$ a person for food and drinks, which is pretty good. Well worth going, booking is a must.

So happy Seamstress are delivering during Melbourne's lockdown. I treated myself last Saturday night and finally got some of their Crispy Brussels Sprouts I'd been craving since July. Everything was hot when it arrived, the presentation was wonderful and all the dishes tasted fantastic. The little touches like calling before the food was delivered, the friendly delivery guy and the Spotify Playlist made it a special experience. Will definitely be treating myself and ordering in again before their doors re-open.

The bar is usually busy at the expected times but had a great atmosphere, a good range and very good service.

Seamstress was originally meant to be a speakeasy bar, i.e. clothes alteration at the front, a funky bar at the back. For this reason, it is quite tucked away and hidden from public view. It is quite easy to walk past it without realising that it was there. but once inside, it is really a very cool and funky bar on the second floor, restaurant on the first floor. The bar is dimly lit with dresses hanging from the ceiling as part of their decor. The cocktail menu is a good selection of delicious drinks and the bar tender is well crafted to make them taste even better than they sound on the menu. There is also a selection of bar food, be sure to try to bar taste platter for two. Highly recommended for dates and small friends get-together. Not a place for business meetings.

From the first phone call inquiry for a large function for a hens and birthday party - the team at Seamstress couldn't have been more accommodating. They opened for the function during they day when they aren't open, they opened the upstairs cocktail area for us before scheduled opening time and we then got to have the outside courtyard downstairs to finish off. We utilized parts of the whole venue and it was so fun! The food was lovely and portions were great for shared dining - I would highly recommend a visit to this lovely establishment :)

I regularly eat at Seamstress for business and pleasure! The food is always of high quality, tasty and the portions are not so large that you leave feeling too full. The service is excellent, the staff remember who you are (if you have been there before) and are always ready with suggestions and advice on what to eat. I mostly leave it to them to feed me now - they know what I like. The bar upstairs is also great for a pre-dinner drink and chat. Excellent.

Great sharing style menu. Most dishes serve 3 to 4 people. I particularly liked the soft shell crab with wasabi mayo dish. The beef short rib was also very well made. Also if you can’t decide what to order, there is a set menu available that covers most of the dishes.

It's got beautiful drapes and bolts of cloth hanging from the ceiling, and as far as the food is concerned it's absolutely top-notch. For drinks you can be a plebian and order a wine or a beer or you can MAN UP and get yourself some of the spiciest cocktails this side of Yarra. Defs recommend on a Saturday night out, just don't hit the joint up if you're feeling seedy because your co-patrons will notice and they will proceed to judge you mercilessly.

I first knew Seamstress as a place that makes perfect gin martinis in its upstairs cocktail bar, which also has great original decor and very cool taste in music. I've now also had dinner in the restaurant a few times, including a New Years Eve banquet for a fairly large group. The service has always been outstanding, and -- particularly for the banquet -- the food is delivered with a high degree of knowledge and apparent pleasure in the creation. Don't expect large servings, but if you can take your time with a number of courses, you'll be more that satisfied. Highly recommended.

When we booked no indication that there were sessions or time limits. Consequently had a very rushed and unsatisfying experience which wasn't helped when told in actual fact we had half an hour more to our booking at the very end of us rushing through our meals. Service felt superficially ok but have been to much better at this price point. It was a shamr as the food was good but no time to enjoy it. When we left plenty of empty tables so really there was no rush. Oh well halved the usual $20 tip as a result!

Just watching them continuously having to climb several flights of stairs to deliver drinks and food from the downstairs kitchen was exhausting! The food itself is above average but expensive for the portion sizes served. The smoked lamb, crab tempura and their betal leaf version of miamg kham were nice but lacked the bursting flavours of authentic Asian food. Only the wok charred vegetables and the miso Brussel sprouts stood out However the cocktails are amazing and upstairs from the restaurant is a very cool bar area with a comprehensive list of high quality spirits and cocktails and knowledable staff to guide you.

I met a friend at the Seamstress Bar on Friday night for a pre-theatre snifter. This is my third visit and each time the staff have been unfailingly friendly and knowledgeable on the subject of both drinks and food. The bar food is reasonably priced and delicious without exception. Seamstress staff have helped restore my shaken faith in the hospitality industry after a recent horrible experience at Milton Wine Bar in Malvern Rd. The trip into town is more than worth it to experience great food, wine, music and service.

Food was wonderful staff friendly. BUT the rudeness when it came to payment of our group of over 20 people, who had sat in the downstairs bar for 2 hours waiting for our booking in the dining area, and finishing our meal after 11.30pm. Our bill was substantial at $65/head plus drinks over 4 hours, then they would not let us pay with credit cards as a split bill No more than 2 credit/debit cards we were told. In todays trend, how many people carry cash? They did not like some of our party going into the street to find an ATM, thinking they would not return. What is wrong with many of todays restaurants. Ordering under a number or a name, so as to make payment at the end of an evening is not hard. I will never return a 2nd time to a restaurant that will not split bills and in this case who will not accept CC cards !!!!

Adorable little coffee shop located just on the edge of Chinatown. Love the cozy feeling and delicious drinks - they do a wonderful matcha latte there and will even add some coffee if you're so inclined. Very relaxing to watch the trees outside. A very peaceful and convenient inner-city spot.

I love this tiny Cafe. It is located under Seamstress bar, so we have a habit of just calling the Cafe "Seamstress". The team greet us warmly every day and remember our orders (even though we have only just started to go here a ). I sooo disagree with ROSSAMUSIC !!!!!!! I'm 50 and certainly NOT hip. This is my favorite restaurant and now my children's 18 and 21. The food has always been fantastic BUT it can't compare to ALL the brilliant staff especially Aaron who has ALWAYS gone out of his way to be the most professional and attentive Manager that I have met and yes this includes living in London and over Europe. So to anyone who read ROSSAMUSIC's review, each to their own, but you would be missing out on a true experience !
