Comments of Shoya Japanese Restaurant
M. L.
We went here for our anniversary! What an amazing experience. We had the set menu and each dish was absolutely delicious. I would recommend having sake or their plum wines with your food. Amazing staff and great service.
J. K.
Lovely atmosphere. A bit squishy but that's how it is like the real thing in Japan. Squishy restaurants ;).
Food quality is good for Australian standards. Sadly they ran out of A5 beef so settled for the sirloin. Overall food quality wouldn't compare to the real deal in Japan, but still decent nonetheless.
Prices are quite steep and quantities are small. Service is good. Cleanliness is top notch.

Certainly one of the best Japanese restaurants in Melbourne! My partner and I came here last April 2021 and enjoyed the Business Man's lunch option and this time, I opted for a la carte, while my partner opted for the ' Classic Chef's Omakase course @ $120 pp
There were 9 courses- his favourite being the Hokkaido crab, assorted sashimi and the Wagyu Beef Steak ( with additional $25 he opted for the Kagoshima beef) which was so delicious- melt in your mouth!
For a la carte, I ordered the beef tartare, smoked edamame(delicious!) and salmon fillet sous vide which was nice
The one downside was that the staff were so polite, each time they bring a course, they try to explain but you couldn't understand what they were saying as they were too softly spoken!
C. T.
First time here and I was very pleasantly surprised at the menu and food quality. We went for the premium degustation menu. Every little bite was beautiful. Next time I'd definitely come back and order full size the wagyu wrap roll and steak.
Lovely staff and very comfortable seating.
I would highly recommend to my friends

Enjoyed dinner last night !
Sushi was super nice especially the rice
Not too hard not too soft
Fishes was fresh and tempura was hot and yummy
C. M.
Great food & service for a great price! This is definitely our go to Japanese place now. We've been back twice now for our anniversary and will continue this tradition.
K.
Went for the lunch which included sets priced around $30+. We also had the premium chirashi set priced at $55 which included 2 pieces of chutoro. Service was exceptional. Left the restaurant very full and contented. Only negative was that the wagyu was slightly on the tough side.
A. L.
Excellent ambience with superb service. No complaints and comments. Food served was on point, taste and prettiness. The restaurant has a few floors, each floor tastefully designed and decorated. Good job!!
A. y.
Amazing ingredients, flawless execution and attentive service made for a perfect experience.
E. L.
Lunch set was good, value for money! Fresh and delicious!

Although we only ordered appetisers, most of them were joyfully memorable and cooked perfectly.
H. C.
Great food, atmosphere and service. Highly recommended!
Q.
Really good Japanese dining experience. Service was amazing and thoughtful. We had the set courses and it is surprisingly filling. Taste is amazing. Strongly recommended.
J. P.
Great Japanese place in the city, worth trying their degustation menus. What I really liked was that each degustation was quite different from the other so you can always go back and try something new!

I've been here multiple times and I honestly and proudly can say that this is easily my favorite restaurant in Melbourne. The service is gold standard and the cooks and waiters remember faces very well and will always welcome you back on second, third and so on occasions. The food is amazing, served on the plate with finesse and the quality of the food can definitely back up how the food looks. You have to 100% come to this restaurant if you want authentic and amazing Japanese food. I'll continue coming to this restaurant forever.
B. L.
I had a cebration with friends and ordered the Chef’s ‘New Age’ Omakase Course and it was nothing less but fantastic from each course being absolutely delicious, however my only gripe would be that the beef main could be better in terms of the tenderness but it was still great.
C. P.
Upscale place featuring premium ingredients. Quality of food is excellent and service is prompt and attentive.
We had the digustation menu that showcased a good selection of dishes from their menu.
The flavours are delicate and each bite brings delight. The staff takes time to explain each course which I really appreciated.
Come here and be spoilt.
S. Y.
Amazing gluten free set meal! So happy to be back dining in, would be great if the menu for the set could have seasonal variations :)
S. C.
This place is a little gem. Located in Market lane Melbourne, the quality of the food we had was amazing. My kids first time eatting Japanese and the staff took the time to explain each item we where served. Atmosphere somewhat aligned with Japanese tradition with standard table and traditional seating. Would have given it 5 stars but the place was a little dust and had a few fake plants.

I really can't think of any other resturants in Melbourne that can do better under $40. I got Matsu 9-course lunch set ($38) which was worth every penny. From Pickled Appetizer to Truffle sauce diced Wagyu beef steak, everything tasted amazing! Such a good balanced selection especially for a lunch set menu. Not to mention, I really enjoyed traditional Japanese interior which gave off this soothing and calming ambience.
My favourites were assorted sushi and truffle sauce wagyu beef. Unlike other Japanese resturants I've been to, I liked how rice wasn't firmly packed together - hence, rice dispersed freely in my mouth which was a pleasant surprise. And of course, fish tasted fresh and succulent.
Truffle sauce diced Wagyu beef steak was also incredibly delicious - went really well together with mixed stream rice. The sauce was addictingly savoury which was just perfect with wagyu beef. The sauce itself was so good that I wanted to lick the plate clean ahaha. Only minor downside was that mixed steam rice came out a bit too mushy. I think that's from extra moisture from the meat and vegetable cooked with the rice. Other than that, everything was just amazing!
Service was beyond excellent - waitresses were all attentive and accommodating throughout. I was also impressed how clean the washroom was and how they had these free hygiene supplies for customers to freely use such as Q-tips. I really appreciate their attention to details which shows how much this restaurant cares for their customers. Overall, I am thankful for getting a chance to enjoy such a quality selection and craftmanship put into creating these beautiful dishes. I really regret not visiting this venue sooner. I am definitely coming back for more!
R. L.
We had the $120 classic Omakase set this time and it was ace! Great flavours, every dish was very well prepared and was absolutely delicious. Great value would highly recommend. Highlights were the Hokkaido tempura prawn, A5 wagyu ($25 upgrade), sashimi ice bowl and duck.

Great Japanese restaurant in Melbourne.
Love having the set menu as you get so much food!
Sashimi could be more fresh but still good.
The green tea ice cream is worth having as it's a perfect balance of sweet and bitter!
Complete with the Japanese toilets that can give you a clean if you dare!
D. R.
Great Japanese food. Lunch is fast and very flavourful. Service is friendly and attentive as well.
P. F.
Innovative and imaginative Japanese haute-cuisine. Some of the starters were good rather than great, but the mains were really tasty.
Excellent selection of drinks, including Japanese whiskey.
The service was very friendly and informative.
We sat at the traditional Japanese tables, i.e. no seat. If this doesn't suit, it might be best to ask for the 'western' seating.
Very expensive, but I don't know how many other places you can get Japanese food and an experience quite like this.
S. E.
Fantastic food with lots of attention to detail. Great service. Their lunch sets are well worth the money spent and the food kept coming. For 25 bucks the number of courses you get, the beautiful setting, all comes unrivalled to any other fast food places you get for the price.
A.
Went to Shoya for my girlfriend's birthday and I must say that it was an absolute delight dining here. Great service, and great food! We tried their Chef's Classic Course meal which was $120 pp. It was pricy at first, but it had king crabs, roasted quail, wagyu beef, and even sashimi! Absolutely delicious but I would have wanted some meals a little warmer as they were mostly all served cold already.
A. _.
Amazing food, excellent service, best thing is probably the FRESH wasabi.the Main sashimi platter was excellent, fish was not ice cold, well-marbled, and cut delicately, chef really knows what he is doing. They have a selection of seriously unique twists of sushi for tasting. Pricing is expensive, but pretty worth it for the amount of pure, high-quality fish that you are getting, The fresh wasabi is really an experience in itself, though I have tasted fresher. The atmosphere is relaxing but unfortunately slightly dark. Sushi bar is a bit old and isnt modern, the metal is scaled and stuff. But just come here for the food, for the stuff you getting, the price is worth it, I was shocked too.
F. P.
Great service and beautifully presented food.
Nice place for special occasion. We had business lunch set menu plus a few from ala carte menu. Kani ravioli was so so, crab was a bit dry. The steak's flavoursome and otoro was beautiful!
J. L.
I love here. It's my favourite place to go for a great Japanese meal. Personally, I will go there for the lunch as the price for the meal is worth it. But if you go for more expensive food, they will serve you, a better presentation and great food.
M. G.
So glad to have finally made it to Shoya, they’ve been high on my to go list for ages. We tried their all you can eat bbq ($78, usually $98) and the offer is a bargain! You get so much deliciousness (unagi, sushi, udon) and premium cuts of beef and other meats. We also opted in to get some ice cream, I honestly can’t pick a favourite, it was all good!
C. K. Y.
It's a really nice & amazing experience to having an actual nice japanese meal.
Not overpriced & a really affordable lunch set menu. I was super full by the end of the meal.
Having been to many other Japanese resturants on the fine dining side, this one was comparable & maybe even better.
Loved it. ✌🏼
t. n.
Food presentation is nice, flavour isn't amazing. Dinner plus a couple drinks can be quiet expensive for what is a similar experience to what you'd expect at a Korean bbq place. Personally I'd go Korean bbq for what would be half the price, same experience and food of the same if not better quality. Bottles of saki range from 200 up to 1500 a bottle with wines of similar prices. If your a tosser trying to show off, by all means entertain your clients or in laws here, otherwise go to any one of our Korean bbq places in the city for experience on par if not better.
C. L.
The fool here is really delicious.
I am so impressed that we could eat so tasty Japanese food in Melbourne.
You must try it if you come near here.
T. X.
Best Japanese Resturant in the CBD of Melbourne. I’ve been visiting them for more than three times and I’ve never been disappointed by their food and service.
Highly recommend their Sashimi, sushi and soba noodle.
M. K.
Had dinner there. Food was high standard. The presentation was good, with the sashimi in the ice bowl spectacular. Sometimes the flavour was not what it might have been: blacked cod, I'm looking at you. And it's not cheap. But service was good.
Update: the latest annual lunch at Shoya was up to the usual standard. An interesting take on teriyaki chicken, and good quality sahimi.
M. F.
A friend of mine brought me here for my b’day. I loved it so much, I brought my family here 2 days later!
I had the Ume ($32) & Matsu ($38) lunch sets.
I was never a big fan of sashimi but the fish and scallop was so fresh and sweet that even I could enjoy it.
The tempura and unagi (grilled eel) was amazing. I personally enjoyed the tempura variety from the Ume set instead of the Matsu set.
Lastly, the beef steak was amazing. It was accompanied with a slice of quiche made with potatoes & blue cheese. Definitely a meal to remember.
J. H.
Just had Kaisen-don (rice with seafood in a bowl) lunch set this afternoon.
As always, it tasted great and the service was perfect; especially the waitress who looked after us was so attentive and nice (and professional, of course), which really made a difference - thanks guys!!
I. J.
One of our favourite restaurant in Melbourne. Food was very delicious and wait staff were really friendly
E. C.
Super fresh sashimi and sushi, eloquently presented and unassuming. The focus here is on top quality ingredients and letting those ingredients shine. Fantastic service too. Great value, would highly recommend.
D. E.
We walked in off the street, and managed to get a table. The staff were very friendly and so helpful. The food was a wonderful culinary experience. We chose the Chef's menus - New Age and Vegetarian. They were both equally delicious. We truly loved the experience, and will head back here. "Thank you" to the Chef and Kitchen staff, and the lovely waitress.
k. t.
Can not say enough about how perfect this place is. 10/10 every single time I come.
Staffs know in side out every single items they offer to patrons from food to beverage.
Personally I prefer to sit by sushi bar than at a table, acknowledge how much love the chefs put into all the dosh they make.
K. Y.
Good value for money if you order a meal set. I always go there with my friends who all enjoyed their food and price for a set meal is reasonable and affordable. Staff is friendly.
M.
Always a pleasure eating here. Reasonably priced, fresh sashimi.
J. S.
As a group of 5 we came here for the lunch set. All of our meals were outstanding. Service was exceptional and my husband was even given a whiskey on the house. Shoya will be always on our list to visit every time we are in Melbourne. Cannot recommend highly enough.
J. L.
so good! Amazing flavour and it makes me feeling in Japan! Definitely come back again!
A. H.
Service and staff was good but we think that they come around our table too many times and constant to clear and add water or tea which interrupts our conversations and also we felt rush although they didn’t rush us.
Lunch set was great and you surely feel full after
A. N. P.
Everything perfect! Great food and super authentic 💖💖
J. L.
Beautiful location, delicious food at a fair price, highly recommended!
H. Q.
The food is just so so, and very expensive. I don’t think I would recommend it to my friends.
d. m.
My partner and I enjoy Japanese but Shoya made us look like rookies. We spent 30min reading the menu and ordered 5 dishes but really had no idea what it was we were going to receive. The food is fantastic, fresh, clean and super tasty. The service is great, really friendly and helpful and they were happy for us to take as long as we needed to decipher the menu which is very comprehensive. The experience is what I would consider traditional Japanese in a modern setting. It is excellent and I will be heading back when I am next in Melbourne.
Y. H.
Amazing food and service. Perfect ambience for that special occasion, or special someone
R. E.
Had the tasting menu, was very well done and had a great variety of dishes. Great service and pretty reasonably priced.
V. P.
Absolutely fabulous Japanese food, have ordered the eat home menu and was great value. The sushi and sashimi was fresh and well arranged. Also enjoyed dining in on the tatami floor setting before the business restrictions were imposed.
O.
Very beautiful atmosphere, accompanied by lovely & attentive staff! The food is superb, we ordered sashimi, sushi, grilled salmon and duck. Authentic cuisine but in a modern setting, a must try in Melbourne. Food worth it for the price!
b. d.
I went here with 2 of my friends and my goodness it was the best service and food I’ve had in a while, I’m native Japanese and this place is so authentic, the sashimi is so fresh their lunch menu “ matsu set “ it honestly a blessing. Incredibly delicious thank you so much for the wonderful experience
S. L.
We love coming here for the Lunch Set menu. Multiple courses of delicately prepared food and impeccable service make the whole experience a wonderful treat.
D. H.
Very impressed, good Japanese cuisine in the town!
D. C.
Shoya always delivers! Yum yum and yum!! Dessert amazing
J. W.
Absolutely fantastic food and service. The staff were kind enough to seat the three of us on very short notice, and we were able to eat in the traditional Japanese seating area which was a wonderful environment.
Service was incredibly professional and friendly, really good atmosphere throughout.
The set lunch menu was delicious, with a great range of options and amazing food. Every single dish was incredible.
Already planning my trip back to try their extensive drinks menu over dinner. Can't recommend Shoya enough, a truely memorable experience.
C. M.
Overall good food but a bit slow for the food, service is good , will come back again for the fantastic services and great food.
P. N.
Always a pleasure to dine here, the food and service never ceases to amaze me! The best place in house is the sushi bar!
R. C.
Friendly and helpful staff. On the slightly pricier side for dinner but good food and drinks. The low wood tables make for a very nice traditional feel.
N. R.
Great quality food and drinks. Equally expensive.
Service level is average and the interior is aged and dusty which needs improvement.
M. C.
One of the best Japanese in Melbourne , great atmosphere, top quality food
S. P.
Love everything about this place. My chef is absolutely legend Japanese chef. Food is amazing. Service here is unbelievable. 10 out of 10 最高の 👍❤
M. Y.
I would highly recommend the lunch specials.
The sashimi and cooked fish dishes are great.
Otherwise, for dinner, it is pricey for the small portions and for what you get.
You can pay more and get fancy dried ice flowing over your food during special events, which in my opinion, is just a gimmick to drain more money with zero value.
A. M.
Had matsu set twice already . 2nd time to make sure it is truly the best. And can confirm it truly is the bestm authentic Japanese food i feel like i am in Japan eating this set.
A. S.
Best Japanese restaurant I have ever been to in Melbourne. Keep up the good work!
S. J.
I have eaten at Shoya tens of times over the last decade. The set lunches are affordable and of very high quality. The degustations are good value and make a night to remember.
From today's visit, I would like to thank the staff for their polite, energetic service. From entry, to meal, to exit, they made our experience. We were celebrating two birthdays and it must have come up in conversation because the staff surprised us with a small cake with "happy birthday" written in chocolate icing across a plate. It was a brilliant touch to an already outstanding meal.
My only suggestion is to switch up the music. They were playing a very short playlist of Disney tunes performed on piano (I think I heard Let It Go four times). But that was a small nuisance for a very enjoyable lunch.
A. A.
A delight. Nice ambiance, attentive service and good food.
M. T.
Great authentic Japanese restaurant. Very knowledgeable host in Sake and Japanese whisky. Food was delicious and flavoursome on the fine dining price range.
Q. Q.
Favourite Japanese restaurant in Melbourne. The staff are so attentive and knowledgeable. Always taking friends here to impress. Always perfect. Food & service above and beyond. And the fresh shaved wasabi is just another of the finer details that make Shoya so amazing!
B. L.
Had a quick lunch at Shoya last week, went there at 1330 on a Sunday. There were plenty of seats and I ordered a set lunch which cost $32 straight away. It's the best Japanese restaurant in Melbourne I must say with excellent service. 7 dishes were served with great quality which came with sashimi, tempura and grilled eel etc. I'll definitely visit this restaurant whenever I visit downtown Melbourne. It is unquestionable a 5 star for Shoya.
E. C.
Me and my mates had a 90 minute all you can eat session the other night.
Service from the female manager/supervisor was pretty bad. Her attitude was really bad and impatient.
Even though the service from team members were pretty ok, we were pretty unhappy throughout the 90 minute session. The meats were average even though they were wagyu and others hot/cooked foods on the all you can eat menu were pretty low end stuff. I won't be going back again.
The owner better restore its glory old day and uphold customer service or else it's going down real soon.
A. Z.
The service is always great, and the food is unique. It is a little pricier, but it's great for an occasional splurge.
E. C.
Upmarket Japanese restaurant, fresh ingredients, good service. Busy on Friday nights
K. Z.
Ordered an Omakase dinner box - very happy to have fresh sashimi and wagyu. It made a bday dinner very easy but still special.
Thanks so much to SHINJI, who delivered the meal and provided easy to follow instructions.
Hoping to dine in soon when lockdown is over!
O. F.
There is no chance I'm in Melbourne at lunch time and I eat somewhere else. The set menu options combines great quality, amazing taste, the right amount of food and a reasonable price. 30 to 38 dollars it's nothing if you consider that your eating in the CBD and you're getting a four course lunch. Ordering a la carte gets less affordable but still worth the price.
The service it's pure Japanese and absolutely divine, the interior are elegant and classy and the open kitchen synonymous of quality.
Just don't even think about and go eat there.
A. O.
Today was my second time Shoya, and the Shoya is the best Japanese restaurant I’ve ever been to in Melbourne.
Survice and Food were both excellent.
The only reason why I don’t give them 5 star is because, the dessert menu is not good. I am not saying that those desserts were bad.
But I tried 4 or 5 desserts, and they were taste boring. But that’s the only reason.
I would definitely recommend this restaurant.
B. K.
This is one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Melbourne. Lunch deal is a very good value while dinner is a bit pricey. High quality sushi & sashimi.
K. L.
I love going to the second floor sushi bar and enjoying the $65 6 course business lunch. I have been going here on every visit to Melbourne for the last 10yrs and they never change the quality or the price. To continue to maintain a menu with lobster, wagyu, foie gras, sashimi, king crab, truffle and put the passion into each serving that they do amazes me. They have three different types of table setting in the building and offer different menus in each. Always a great experience and good for kids too.
W. C.
I love the variety of dishes in their set lunches. It's also an excellent spot to escape the heat and for meetings.
B. Z.
Excellent service. Absolutely worth the price.
V. G.
Thank you Shoya for a very generous offer of free delivery at the weekend- food was superb as always, fresh and delicious selection, first restaurant meal in 4 months and felt like having a trip to Japan. Well done all!
H. L.
The food was okay, nothing very special
N. H.
When it hits its stride, Shoya can count itself as being amongst the upper echelon of Japanese restaurants in town. Great fusion flavors, paired with quality ingredients and a very comfortable fit-out should make for an exciting dining experience.
However, the problem is that Shoya lacks the consistency of a top tier restaurant. Far too often the wait between courses is too long; we've had one too many dishes served lifeless and cold.
Until the restaurant can lift the bar in terms of service, Shoya deserves to be rated as average at best.
T. P.
Interestingly, this was the first time that I've come across a Japanese restaurant with very average service (I love Japanese food & frequently go to Japanese restaurants. I also used to work & live in Japan & every now & then, travel to Japan for holidays)
The food was great but service was slow, below par & lack of attention to details (eg, for a table of 4, 2 people were served with hot towels, 2 weren't, etc)
If not for the good food & drinks, I would rate it 2 stars.
Also, this was the first time that I've seen a Japanese restaurant that seemed to be in favour of people of Western look over Asian
Needless to say that a return to this restaurant wouldn't be on our forseable agenda
T. N.
Horrendous given the price. Got one of those set lunches for about $30, about 8 different dishes. The only thing that tasted authentic was the green tea ice cream. Tempura was ok, but most tasted little better than food court japanese. None of it was bad, (maybe the tofu..) but I don't understand why it is so mediocre when it is so expensive. If something this bad existed in Sydney it would have shut down long ago.
Disclaimer: I did not try any of the Japanese BBQ, and others have noted it is meant to be a French / Japanese fusion, which may explain why it does not taste in any way authentic. Maybe it is catered more towards people with a more western palate. Looking at some other photos of the food online, possibly there are more expensive sets that would have tasted better, but $30 for a lunch set is not cheap as it is.
J. D.
I had one of the lunch sets, and it was quite good. I was part of a group of multiple couples with kids, and it was a fairly busy day. We were taken care of, but in an unhurried and unstructured way; individuals' items came staggered, not as a whole table; and as we were against a back wall, we didn't feel very comfortable. Nevertheless, I'd surely go back again.
C. H.
Nobu, meet the competition. This place has some delicious food and excellent service. My only gripe, if you can call it a gripe.. Is that the chef might be a little too adventurous with the menu. Some dishes look Japanese, but taste very western. Still delicious nonetheless.
K. L.
Authentic Japnese food with a high quality.
A. Z.
Had the 150$ Degustation menu with my friend 3 weeks ago. Overall it's OK for the price, Sashimi in the ice ball container and wagyu beef are the highlight of the menu. But dessert's so bland and inedible that I could not believe it's a one-hat restaurant. Also the black truffle seems like the cheapest summer truffle.
I prefer Yokoyama's Japanese Restaurant in Doncaster, best authentic Japanese restaurant in Australia as Tetsuya is more French style.
J. S.
A nice spot, not the most romantic but a good date spot. The set menu options are very filling with the wagyu at the end being a good 150g after 7 courses. Large sake list.
g. k.
spent $345 for three people, it's bit pricey, however the food was good, a fusion of Japanese and French cuisine. sampled 7 entrees including, Foie gras, toro, ect and the main meal was melt in your mouth wagyu beef.
the main was a real delight, with a sweet red wine sauce, with some truffle on top, I have my steak medium rare and it melt in my mouth, truly heaven...
too bad, I can't go often as it is a bit out of my price range but will go back for special occasion, oh, the service was superb!
g. r.
Fantastic customer service and delicious food 😋
P. C.
Been visiting most of the high end Japanese restaurant, still keep coming back to this particular one. Never fail to please my taste buds. Never disappoint my friends too.
L. (.
Strongly recommend BBQ buffet! Quality is really good!
A. G.
A beautiful restaurant with dedicate service. Each dishes are very tasty and they look like ‘ART’ created by the chef Nonaka. Highly recommended!
S. L.
Having Sushi prepared at the counter by the owner was an amazing experience and took me back to fond memories of the Tsukji markets in Japan. The bowl made of ice was a sight to behold (sorry not sure what the official name for it is).
Will certainly be back to try the Omakase degustation menu when I have time.
p. L.
Good value lunch set menu starts at $30, staff was so busy but always smile and look after you well, I like real Japanese food and will definitely come back for dinner next time
B. S.
Fast service, happy and helpful staff, great food. Among the best Japanese restaurants I've been to in Melbourne. I will definitely be back.
T. Y.
One of the best Japanese restaurants in Melbourne. The affordable lunch set menu is worth to try, especially the chirashi set.
L. S.
Best value for money is with the lunch set menu. 6 courses starting from $25. Authentic Japanese cuisine
S. B.
The banquet was good as usual, however, ala carte menu is second to none...white wines menu is abit more pricier than other same high end fine dining venue.
P. C. B.
This place is something special. If you're a foodie whom appreciates Asian cuisine you'll find yourself in raptures. Can't wait to go back already. Amazing service and wonderful atmosphere
A. L.
Friendly staff and great atmosphere. The lunch menu is definitely value for money.
L. L.
Fantastic place. Can’t wait to go back
b. p.
great venue, staff are really friendly and the food is amazing. A little pricy but you get what you pay for. Have been 5-6 times and have only had one bad night there. Would recommend everything except for the toro way to pricy for what you get. Other than that a great place.
C. B.
Great set menu. Sake prices start pretty high
K. Y.
Great Japanese cuisines with authenticity and excellent presentation
H. C.
Great value for their lunch sets. Limited quantity. The Kaisen Chirasu Set $24.80 is my favourite.
I. O.
Food is as always well presented with a perfect ambience to appreciate the beautifully crafted food.
周.
Pretty good atmosphere here.
F. C.
One of the best Omakase menu options in Melbourne. Each dish is delicately prepared with an explosion of tasteful elements and flavours.
S.
The finest Japanese Cuisine in Melbourne
T. C. G.
Omakase by Chef Ken was amazing! Everything made by him introduced new combinations of flavour and texture!
D. C.
Valentine's Day lunch still the same menu and same price. Very good food and great atmosphere
N. H. M.
I love the food! I have the seared scallops! It was moist and just delicious!
The female toilet is equipped with Japanese modern toilets which have inbuilt bidet. It's amazing!
J. E.
The food looks amazing. We sat around the sushi bar and the preparation that went into the food we were shocked. Great place great food.
L. G.
Exquisite food, highly recommended
G. P.
Good food, adequate service. Some very chewy fish on the sushi - better preparation and selection needed.
M. M.
Absolutely beautiful restaurant nice cocktails and sockie but very very expensive
r.
Very average experience, not to return
J. L.
Wonderful sushi, unrivaled for quality and variety of sushi, I'd you're tired of the usual salmon and looking for something special i'd recommended this, just be prepared for your wallet to take a hit

Good service. Had the “New Age” course; was good, but I’ve had better for a similar price range. Nevertheless, good place to hang out.
G. P.
Was good. It did seem a little rushed. Every I've enjoyed it. If you wear glasses prepare to clean them.
M. O.
A strange place. You can order cheapish eats and also very expensive dishes. if you looking for fine dining look elsewhere.

Been here a couple of times and will continue to do so. Decent food and great selection of sake/spirits

One of my personal favourite restaurants in Melbourne. It is on the pricey side - expect upwards of 80 to 120 per person without drinks, but the food is masterfully prepared and the service impeccable.
My personal favourite dish is the Beef and Spinach Soufflé, a cut of ox tongue slow cooked for 2 days wrapped in a soft, fluffy spinach souffle. Words just fail me at this point; they don't do the skill and care taken to prepare this dish justice. And at $36, it's one of the cheaper mains that they have. It is very rich though, so you might want to try one or maximum two pieces

Japanese food institution! Sit at the sushi bar for Omakase sushi from the owner chef, or at a table and enjoy one of their popular Omakase degustation menus !!!

My partner and I each had a set lunch and drinks. Service was perfect; unhurried but prompt, with an eye for detail and a presence that was never noticed until required. The food ws similarly timely, displaying the same attention to detail and timeless quality as the service. The setting was all class; tasteful artwork and feature walls setting off well apportioned and carefully designed eating spaces. Noise was no problem, and the atmosphere pleasantly subdued.
We ate at the sushi bar and were treated to a new sushi chef being shown the craft by an older chef, clearly very well learned. A spectacle for the ages!
Would definitely go again and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Go out of your way to visit.

(Translated) Chinese food is cheap and cost-effective. A bald male waiter on the 3rd floor has a bad attitude. I miscalculated the price and found it out. The whole process is indifferent. The other waiters are very good!
