Ok service, it was a public holiday. Burgers were nice size though: Big Max was quite greasy and no taste. Grilled Burger was nice tho i added chilli. Sweet potato fries were good. Prices are ok for the area so try sone thing different.

South Melbourne is a pricier area for take-away food, and this is somewhat reflected in the prices at South Melbourne Fish and Chip Shop. There are other fish and chip shops along Clarendon Street, making competitive options and delivering some of the same and yet different menu options. This place has the usual fare, with a few 'Asian' [their wording] inspired dishes added on. Their food quality is consistent, portions are enough for 1 person, and I have only had one bad item across a three-year span. They continued to operate during the lockdown and made life at home a little more 'normal'. Whether dining in or ordering online, they always present/package the food well and efficiently process orders in a COVID safe manner. Recommendations - Jam doughnuts - heavy texture, warm, freshly made, minimal jam, cinnamon sugar dusting - quite enjoyable with a coffee - [Pack of 4 is value for money]. South Melbourne Market Homemade Dim Sims - anyone who has been to the market will grab some of these because they are incredibly tasty and crunchy. Larger than the normal dim sims, two make a great snack on a cold day with soy sauce. Fish and chips [not pictured]/potato cakes - grilled or fried - their fried options are more to my liking, as the grilled is a little like the steamed papillote fish, and I didn't like the texture - but it may be perfect for you! Come with smalls tubs of tartare and tomato sauce at no extra cost. Portion size is perfect for one, and the crispy, crunchy goodness, how fish and chips should be. Worth a try.

Always guaranteed to have fresh flake when you come here. Whether it’s battered or grilled, either way it’s cooked just right. Chips are good and nice to not to be overly salted. Plenty of other seafood options other than flake. Staff were helpful. Well worth a visit. Wheelchair accessible and kid friendly. Parking is pretty good.

Near the corner of Clarendon and Park Street. Nice staff.😀 I think the hot dogs in batter are the best. I order four. Heaps of the best golden chips wrapped in paper old school style. jump on the number 1 tram outside the shop and head to the beach. You can't go wrong. 🏖️😁 Very popular I saw 6 uber drivers in 10 minutes collect orders. Yummy 10/10 🦈

As other reviewers have said, South Melbourne fish and chips is worth leaving your neighborhood. They serve HUGE portions of delicious fish (we had Flake and Salmon) and delicious chips, are very affordable, and are so very friendly. I really wanted to have fish and chips somewhere other than an overpriced pub chain, and this was the place. A bonus was taking a short stroll through Clarendon street, quite a nice area of Melbourne. Highly recommended,I’ll definitely be back again!!

Good no frills fish and chips. Five out of 5 for the food. Also reasonably priced. Just don't expect good customer service here. They don't seem to know what that is. The manager is the worst of them.

I've worked in South Melbourne for the last few years and have frequented this fish & chip shop. it's not the best I've had but very far from the worst. Good crispy chips and the fish is nice. They can be a bit heavy handed on the salt at times. The souvlakies are great and they cook the onion which really enhances the flavour :)

This was my bestest ever fish n chips but the past 2 orders have not even been close to what I ordered. Went back again wasn't happy with the quality don't know what's going on in there. Fish needs to be fresh its normally soot on here.....

Don't know how people say the chips are bad because they are some of the best around. Clean oil and super crunchy. Burger is great if you get it with herb mayo. The rest is kinda average but the super sized spring rolls are great!

been here numerous x's over the yrs but dont jump to conclusions just yet : ) ...first off im a local...they do a VG scallop,No, they do a Great scallop...the Barramundi is always delicious but the batter has become atrocious,potato cakes are always crisp but need to be more generous in size these days...the fish burger is tasty and at its maximum price @ $5.90 as its only 3 small chunks of grenadier...lets see...i dont buy chips as imo theyre always over priced no matter where u go...the steak sandwich is just forgettable...a sliver of 110 gm of rump or porterhouse ?? whatever it is it doesnt constitute a steak sandwich to me...if i was them id buy eye fillet in bulk and giv the customer an eating experience theyd never forget,youd only have to charge a few $$ more...so it goes w/o saying the steak sandwich i found unaccepetable,also no eftpos...what century r we in ?? service is fine
