Really delicious brunch with good coffee too. We enjoyed sitting at the back undercover and by the small tree. Servings were generous and the like bowl was great. My friend ordered the eggs benedict and the bacon was thick cut and delicious with the hash brown

Rating 4.5 / 5 What one does after running a Marathon? Brunches!! That's what we do and the closest option was Square and Compass. Quite a crowded morning, we had to wait for almost 15 minutes to get a table. This place has amazing vibe. Attendants are friendly and helpful, music is good and coffee is excellent. Ordered a Potatoes Roesti with Salmon, Laksa Fried Rice, Chicken Schnitzel and Omelette Easily, the smoked salmon was the winning dish of the day. Good flavors going quite well with each other. Second best was the Fried Rice. It was yummy and nicely spiced, though couldn't see much of chicken. Schnitzel and Omelette were pretty simple and easy food and had not had much going with it. We definitely loved the food and the prices are quite decent to taste and portions. They have Vegan and Vegetarian options but quite limited.

Great coffee, very tasty and healthy menu and excellent service. Having breakfasts and lunches there for more than a month and it's always great. They are changing menu from time to time, but always great. Potato rosti is a piece of art. Fried kimchi rice, open omelette with green beans and goat cheese are great and super tasty. Staff always friendly and promptly.

The food selection isn't too bad and one of the best things here is that the food is served quite quickly. The staff are quite attentive so you aren't left waiting for them to come and collect your order. The food itself tastes good, however, isn't anything amazing. It's in a nice spot and they have an outdoor area at the front and back which is great on a good day.

Had brunch here on the weekend and it was fantastic. The food and coffee was really good. You can see the kitchen at work from the seating area. Everything looked to be made fresh, I ordered the chicken burger and I watched as a fresh chicken breast was dipped in flower and coated with the batter and fried from the table. Best breakfast cafe in East Melb. This used to be my local cafe and I recently moved across town. I still come back here for the best Golden latte in Melbourne. The mix that they use is just delicious. My go to is the avocado and poached eggs every time. They never disappoint. Always super busy but the staff are attentive and super friendly.

This place was already packed and buzzing at 9am. A nice open place, good vibes and wonderful service. Food was served very promptly. Soft and fluffy lemon pancakes went well with the crushed berries and cream. Would have loved the halloumi fingers to be bigger in size but i guess for $4.50 it’s almost worth it. Overall, a nice spot to go to in East Melbourne with Carlton Gardens just a walk away

The food here is so good, like so good, unfortunately the coffee has gone down hill. It seems to be on week days, I am not sure if it's because different staff are working then. This place is beyond amazing!!! The service, food and coffee is 10/10. I never had any cravings during both my pregnancies, but then I discovered the chilli scrambled eggs here... the best I’ve ever had and I couldn’t wait for my obstetrician check up each fortnight, as that meant I got to visit this place and enjoy a great coffee and the chilli scrambled eggs! Highly recommend :)

The food here is good, fairly decent percent of vegetarian options too.. Normally I would give 5 stars through and through if the establishment is doing a reasonably great job. While the wait staff were friendly and helpful, I couldn't go past most staff in the kitchen, not wearing the masks properly while working. I think it is fair to charge a surcharge for Sunday, it could be best to mention it at the time of booking or before payment, only noticed it just because, I had a receipt. Many thanks for serving us, there is certainly room to improve!

Staff are ok although The ones who served me seemed inexperienced. I had the eggs Benedict which was pretty revolting. Well cooked eggs but big fatty slab of pork belly in it. I don't know who thought of this idea, but it's a really bad one. I don't know who would find eating 100g of fat first thing in the morning appealing but obviously the people who created this dish do. Good coffee and nice atmosphere but get rid of those eggs Benedict!

The cafe is located in East of Melbourne where many office buildings are there and not too many cafes around in this area which makes the business even better. The design was minimalist, modern and an open kitchen right next to the table set up where guests can catch a glimpse of all the action. The service was great and attentive. We went there in the morning on the weekday and surprisingly it was really busy. Many people came to have breakfast and had take away coffee. We ordered cappuccino, mocha for $4.50 and eeg & bacon roll ** it was nicely done but not extraordinary, we would be expecting this as we saw many people had breakfast in this cafe. We enjoyed the coffee, the mocha and cappuccino were really great. Unfortunately, it was over charge for a small/regular size coffee (*tiny size). The small/regular size coffee in this cafe is smaller than the other places and cost the same price as other great coffee maker cafes. Good coffee good food, and lovely staff. Just be aware of the Sat (10%) and Sun and public holiday (15%) surcharge. Takes the prices from the cusp of reasonable to starting to push it a little. Eg today almond milk cap and a large strong latte came to $11.60.

Lovely friendly place. My mum adores their coffee and travels in from Hawthorn to visit this cafe especially whenever she visits me in Melbourne. Great food as well - the potato rosti and the poke bowl were both delicious. Accommodated our pram with no issues despite it being a busy Thursday.

I give the coffee and staff here 4 stars but the food is about 3, the chicken burger was just a little sickly and greasy with no balancing flavours (ie. pickles/slaw), and their laksa fried rice is nice but a little too much filler. Also, don't go on a weekend because the surcharge is a steep 15% and it's written on the menu but nobody will actually mention it until you pay, so unless you're reading every word you won't notice. I appreciate that staff are getting paid weekend rates but at the expense of the customer is cheeky when prices are already high so I have to drop the rating.

As always we went halfsies and tgere was no clear winner. both meals were excellent. The dukka toast was complex and stood out from the egg, and the potato salmon dill cream combo was perfect. we will be back here.

Always packed and always quick, these guys are popular for a reason. Super tasty food, super fresh. The staff are friendly and attentive. Eggs Benedict comes with a slab of bacon 🤤 and the superfood salad is moreish: fresh, dressed with just enough acid, little pops of sweetness from the goji and a subtle heat from the pickled jalapeno and heaps of cheese definitely order it with the additional poached egg.

Square and Compass is a busy café near Freemason Hospital. Outside at the front of the café there are a few tables set up for two. Inside there are many more tables, mainly for two. At the rear of the café the glass doors open out to additional outdoor seating. There is a good range of dishes available on the menu, mainly around $18-20. We ordered the fried chicken burger which came with chips and a chicken schnitzel which came with a small salad. We enjoyed both. I was considering having the pancakes but I guess I’ll have to leave it for my next visit. It was a great place to have lunch.
